Windows 7 rejects *correct* admin password

Q: Windows 7 rejects *correct* admin password

Hello everyone the other day I shutdown my computer then upon restarting it - I entered my password at the login screen as password *correct* 7 admin rejects Windows I always do Now I know for a fact it is the right password And the strange thing is when I get the error Wrong username or password it doesn t happen immediately it goes like it s about to start windows then comes back to the error Now I have bypassed it somehow by pure will by entering the password over and over again And when I was finally logged in I did a system restore to see if that would work But upon restarting it brought me Windows 7 rejects *correct* admin password back to the login and the problem remains trying to get back in again Also I went and set the setting to bypass the password by unchecking it in the control panel So now when restarting my computer it goes automatically to the error instead of the login screen So before even typing the password it just presents the error right off the bat This is all very strange any help is appreciated ------------------ System details Windows home premium bit Toshiba Satellite a Intel Core i nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You may have to do a Factory reinstall of your system. If you can get in again . Try changing your password in the user account.Or just deleting it.

Thunderbird rejects my password to my email and gives me this error message:  "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server responded: (#AUTH012) Incorrect username or password"
However, the password is good because I can log on and access my email on the Verizon Yahoo web page.

A:Thunderbird rejects my password

Here are some more data.   When I first open Thunderbird, I am not asked to supply my password, rather, I immediately get the error message I quoted in my first post.   Even stranger, I can still send emails.  Even though I never enter a password, and I can not receive emails, I still can send email from Thunderbird perfectly successfully.

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Hi all,

I got a problem I can't seem to fix. I checked online for help to no avail.

Here's my problem:

I boot my Dell (windows 7 Professional) and when the welcome screen appears all I get is "password is incorrect'"

There are no usernames present nor administrator. When I click on the "ok" underneath the password is incorrect, It brings up my username, but when I enter my password it says it's incorrect (it's not). I can't log in from safe mode, nor will system restore fix the problem.

Since this is an old work computer I was never given the disc that could solve this problem.

Anyone have any idea of what is wrong and how it can be fixed?

Thanks in advance,

I can't remember fully now but I was having a problem with setting up a schedule in Macrium Reflect it kept failing to accept my Win password I went to 'netplwiz' thinking I could just login without a password but then after I rebooted I could only get to the win login screen the one after the pretty picture It seems there is a scheduling problem with Reflect after the anniversary update and I haven't been able to use it since I reset my Windows password but that fails Cannot password Windows 10 with login to correct as well so it seems to me that I somehow need to get back into 'netplwiz' again in order to remove the tick 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer' but I don't know how to get to it I found this very complicated to understand as it seems to worded back to front but I was told to add the tick in order NOT to have to log in As I downloaded the update and installed it I don't have an ISO but assuming there is an ISO anniversary build can I create one on this spare laptop and use it on the one I can't get into That's assuming it will Cannot login to Windows 10 with correct password help me to overcome the login problem Thanks for any assistance

Windows suddenly it automatically brings me Windows 7 suddenly rejecting correct password. to a screen saying 'User name and password is incorrect' I press OK and re-enter my password WHICH IS CORRECT it says Windows 7 suddenly rejecting correct password. it's wrong So when my computer is starting up I pressed F and went into System repair It brings me to a screen to enter a password I type the EXACT same password as before and it lets me in I am trying to log into my user account 'Tyquan' when my PC starts up AND on the system repair I only have one account which is administrator I never set a password when configuring my windows for the first time and even if I did it would be one of passwords I tried them all and all stupid variations of them that they could be I'm just confused as to why my computer is rejecting my password in one screen but accepting it in another

A:Windows 7 suddenly rejecting correct password.

Hello Tyquann, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you set Windows to automatically sign in to the user account that you changed the password for, then that could be the issue. Netplwiz will still use your old password unless you updated it in netplwiz by starting over and setting it up again below.

Hello,  newbee here.   Looking for some help with a gateway laptop.  Had a shutdown prompt to update.  Hit that fun button to shut down and came back to a usless laptop.  The computer seems to fire up correctly.  It takes me to the password screen and waits for my input.  When I enter the correct password the system sends message that "you can't sign in to your PC right now.  Go to to fix the problem, or try the last password you used on this PC. "
Help.  I do not have any restore disc for this unit.  Is there a way into safe mode to disable the password?  or can I restore to before the last update?  I need past this screen to try anything though.
Thanks for the help

A:windows update from 8 to 8.1 will not allow access with correct password?

The error that you've received is saying that (most likely) you're not entering the right password.
Go to and get them to reset your password.
This may help to reset the system (and will wipe everything off the system):
- at the login screen, click on the icon in the lower right
- hold down the "Shift" key and then click on "Restart"
- continue to hold the "Shift" key until the system boots into the recovery mode
- Once in recovery mode, click on "Troubleshoot", then of "Reset my PC" (these may not be the exact words)
Worst case, contact Gateway for a set of recovery disks.
Here's a page that I wrote back in 2012 that has instructions:

My wife's laptop rebooted automatically to apply a Windows 7 automatic update and now it says the password is incorrect.

She has had the same password for several years and uses it every day. It is her middle name so she has not forgotten it and it does not use capitals. Caps Lock is defintely off (although we have tried it with it on also!).

We do not have a password boot disk.

I have read about password recovey tools but logically they would not help as we know the password anyway.

Why would the password suddenly be rejected after the update?
How do we get the computer to work again?

Neither of us are very computer literate, so I hope someone can help (in simple English )

A:Correct password rejected after automatic Windows update

Try starting in Safe Mode and see if you can enter the password and have it work there. If so, go into Start Menu->Control Panel->User Accounts->Change your password-> and choose a temporary password for now (make sure it is something you will remember). Restart Windows and see if you can login with the new password.

A couple of weeks ago the correct password for my PC stopped working and I have no idea why. I have tried many times the correct password (oh trust me it is not a matter of caplocks) and it does not work. I have alot of files on the PC that i really need (pics of vacations, Uni files, music etc).
My laptop is a HP Pavilion g6-2235tx
I dont know if this would be helpful but, whenever I go into the login window the window that appears when you hold down shift for too long appears.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Gee, I am disapointed that no one was able to suggest something here. I did my part by helping others, so what's the prob?

Because this involves immediate rebooting of the computer(hardware?) AND a software issue of not recognizing password, I am leaning to CPU issue. I have seen some weird issues in past that were CPU. I do not have a tester CPU; I do have anothe MB and may try that.

Actually, safe mode WILL work as long as you don't have an Admin password set or forget the password for the Admin. If there's only one account on there and you're the administrator, in safe mode you can log on to what is called Admin...and it will work.

I think the best way for you is using ( edited -BG)This utility is used to reset password of any windows versions in seconds.
How to use:
Download the utility and install it then burn the software to a CD/USB drive, then insert the newly created CD/USB drive to your locked pc and reboot your computer, then press "F2" to enter your BIOS setup, following the instruction to reset your lost windows password.

After spending about 20 minutes on the phone with a Microsoft consultant to only be told that due to a liabilty and privacy issue, passwords cannot be helped to be removed or changed unless I pay, I decided to see if anyone here could help me.

Heres what is happening:

1. I have not used my PC in about 7 months and completely forgot my Admin password.
2. The only other account is a Limited Account and I tried to make a password reset disc on the Limited but it did not work.

Please, can someone tell me what to do to figure out or change/remove my admin password?
Without reformatting or losing data...

P.S. My hint is NO HELP because I'm known for putting the most random hints (e.g. During the Industrial Revolution, a man named Frederick Darlson created this soon to be American convienence) and that has NOTHING to do with the password unfortunatly...

Try accessing the built-in Administrator account, which should have a default password unless you changed it.

XP Pro - At the logon screen, press ctrl+alt+del twice. For the username type "Administrator" and leave the password blank. You should be able to log in and reset the password for your account.

XP Home - In XP Home, you can only access the built-in admin account from Safe Mode. Reboot into Safe Mode (reboot while tapping F8 repeatedly) and you should be able to access the Administrator account at the login.

Hi sivakesava574,
If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows. However you can try out the steps offered in the link below.
Note: The steps provided in the link below are not confirmed steps from Dell. Please try those steps at your own risk.

Windows 10 reset by MS. Told to put in new Administrator password, which I did & wrote it down in 2 places. Now will not accept the PW. Can you have a PW and a pin pls, as it will accept the pin. Any ideas?

A:Windows 10 Admin password will not work but I can use pin.

Yes you can have a password and a PIN. I have both setup on my laptop. On the Lock/login screen, below where you type them in, there should be a "login method" option. Click that and you can switch from Password to PIN of vice versa. Mine gets set back to Password after some Windows updates and I have to toggle it back to PIN. Every time a new build comes down the PIP it defaults back to Password. If it's set to PIN, and you enter your password, it won't let you log in. You have to tell it which one your typing in.

Tried looking through various logs to see if i could find a pattern to where i could see similarities for tried passwords and what a good one from like 6 months ago was to where i could try cracking it that way but no luck since i cant find a log.

Hello HIKER7s,

That error means that you just entered your password incorrectly in netplwiz.

You should be able to click on OK in the error message, then sign in with your correct password. After you are signed in, go back to netplwiz, and start over entering your correct password to stop this.

I recently changed the password of my admin account on my computer but when I then tried to log in with the new password it didn't work, i even tried my old and it didn't work either. I also have a guest account which i can access without any password. Is there any way to solve this problem from the guest account, without having to reinstall the whole windows?

By the way, I don't have admin privileges on the guest account and I'm running Windows 7 x32 if someone wonders.

Thx in advance

Since you don't have admin rights on the guest account, you won't be able to reset the admin password. I'm not sure if they are kosher with forum rules to post, but there are plenty of free, easy to use password reset utilities out there.

I have an old dell laptop I set up for my daughter. It has win 7 ultimate 32. I can not remember the Admin password I used when I set it up. The screen is cracked so I have another monitor hooked up. This monitor only comes up after Windows is loaded up, so I can't get into CMOS or anything else before windows boots up. F8 doesn't help, because I can't see anything on the screen. Anything I try to do in my daughters log in, wants the ADMIN password, Which I can't remember. I can't even reinstall windows because I can't get into CMOS to set it to boot from disk or USB.

IS there any way to get the password stored in windows somewhere like in a file or something? or any other way around the Admin PW?

I'm working on a client's computer. During a normal boot it will hang on the Windows XP logo screen then reboot. I tried loading it up in safe mode. Again it would hang for a bit while trying to load then it would reboot. So I'm trying to repair from the Windows XP disk. But before I can do so it asks for the administrator password. The administrator log in does not have a password but if I just press enter it will exit out of the repair process. My question is, how do I tell it there is no password without just pressing enter and causing it to exit?

Could someone with expert knowledge provide every way they can think of that someone could guess/hack/crack an Administrator password and ways to prevent this security vulnerability?
Due to work commitments the cost of time and effort repeatedly reinstalling the OS is no longer a reasonable option. It is necessary to directly identify how the password is being guessed and put measures in place to prevent this occurrence happening again.
My knowledge of Windows and research skills are advanced so don't hesitate to provide as many technical details as possible.

A standard account will stop some hacker/malware from owning the machine right off upon infection. But some malware will still function in a standard account.

Depending on whether your users do online banking and do online purchases, you might want to install some kind of anti-keylogging program to foil somebody capturing passwords and credit card info. I use Zemana.

A:How to remove Windows 7 logon screen and admin password?

Hi Amin2234,

As far as I know, this option is useful in case we will forget the passwords in the future. If we have created a password reset disk, we can use it to reset the password without re-installing the machine. If this option is missing or corrupted,
we will have to reinstall the machine if we have forgotten the password.

As for the security reasons, it is not available to reset the password without the resetting password disk. We shouldn`t be worried about this.

During the restart the computer Blue-Screened restarts automatically entered startup repair the second time quot Toshiba Satellite Rejects Windows 7? fixes it quot and the cycle starts Toshiba Satellite Rejects Windows 7? again So I figure quot Okay one of the updates is bad quot I reformat and reinstall again and the computer first-boots normally again Just to test I restart the computer and the bsod repair cycle starts again I finally gave up for the time being and just reinstall Vista -bit on their again and it works fine His is the only computer I've had this happen to and I've installed on about other computers so far No I did not miss the irony Does anybody have any suggestions

This is first time I experienced my lap top asking for Administrative Password or Power On Passwor, but I have neither of them. I tried some passwords and they didn't work, and I search on line for this issue and someone was saying to try 66665891 but it did no work eiher. After trying a few and it gave this error of system disabled withthe code 53578094. I turned the laptop off a few times and tried again but the system disabled code is the same as 53578094. Would you please direct me how to get this around so I can have the laptop on? Thanks and appreciate your help.

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

Call me a dunce....but I have a problem. I locked myself out of my administrator account and I can't go into safe mode because I also forgot my BIOS password. I really don't want to have to open up my computer and remove the BIOS, is there any other solutions that don't involve turning off my computer?

Im running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3

Hi, I work at a pawn shop, and we have a problem we have never encountered before.  This laptop, which is cleared and is now for sale in the shop, now asks for an administrator password or power on password.  It did not do this when it was brought in, nor when it was pulled from the back.  We were going to power it on for a customer, and it just started asking us for this password. I have seen in another post that you enter through it 3 times to get a code, so here is the code:61987774 Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with a password program? I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running on Windows 7 starter and have just logged on as normal with my password. Whilst on there, it wanted to do a Windows update so I did this, the netbook shut down, rebooted and asked for my password again and then nothing?? I put in the same password I have used for months and the same one that I put in less than 30 mins prior to the update but it says its incorrect?

I have tried pressing the F8 button and booting in safe mode etc but all options I choose want a password and I can't give one anymore?

Any ideas how to get back in there?

Thank you!!!

Why the specified network password is not correct? My password is CORRECT!! It's a good password and the only password used on these computers. When I try to network from my win 10 laptop to win 10 desktop I get this error message? I went to Control Panel Networking and troubleshooted and it said I didn't have permission to network. Yet I had no trouble when I was working the same computers in win 8.1 and win 7. There has been no change in networking procedure in win 10 which worked well in win 7 and 8.1.

A:Why the specified network password is not correct?

Are you sure it didn't say username OR password?

The username is computername\username. If you are not entering it like this, try this way.

Edit:- fixed error in username.

But indeed IT IS CORRECT I just installed Windows RC for evaluation So far I have NOT been able to connect to any domains I am logged into not specified The password network is correct. the machine as the administrator found out how to do that When I try to map a network drive using Reconnect at logon and Connect using different credentials I keep getting the quot specified network password is not correct quot I have used several other quot working accounts quot with the quot correct passwords quot of each of them and it's always the same thing This is frustrating I will NOT EVER go to Vista or Windows unless Microsoft makes a way for problems like this to be quot not quite so problematic quot I've NEVER had a problem mapping anything with Windows XP It's not a wonder that people want to buy new machines with XP professional on them I have another machine with Vista Home Premium on it and The specified network password is not correct. I tried to just format it and install XP instead and it blue screens every time I can't STAND Vista or RC so far Somebody else MUST have had to deal with this mapping problem Any help from any of you experts If I can make this mapping thing work there MAY be a chance for Windows in the future Thanks Frustrated to the max

We took my friend's laptop down to Staples for them to load windows 10 over windows 8 when we got it back we went to my friend's house and after much fooling around we finally got a password it would accept and even opened her account on Face Book. But I took it home with me because all of the tiles on the screen were jumbled and I was going to try to fix them but when I tried to log in it kept refusing the password that I was trying to use so after many tries I finally gave up but am still interested in getting this fixed for her. would you please advise?

A:Correct password but can't login?

What password are you looking for? A login password to the Operating system? Or something else? Perhaps you could be more specific. If Staples worked on it, did you check with them?
