MalwareBytes icon not showing in taskbar Windows 7

Q: MalwareBytes icon not showing in taskbar Windows 7

On the taskbar after I installed malwarebytes anti malware, the icon becomes one of those blank program icons.

How can I bring the right icon back? The original icon is also like this too. It happened minutes after I installed it.

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: MalwareBytes icon not showing in taskbar Windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Jemi200,

If you right click on Malwarebytes and select 'Properties', then under the 'Shortcut' tab click on 'Change Icon' at the bottom. You should see the Malwarebytes icon there. Select it and hit OK, Apply and OK.

See if that helps.

It's been couple of days since I upgraded my system to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything is working fine except this nasty error. If I pin apps to taskbar or run apps , the app icons on the taskbar are shown as white square. And I am seeing the same thing on Apps & Feature settings list. The icons are there but as the backgrounds are shown as grey-white chequered pattern (for the transparency ), it looks like white squares. Rebuilt the icon cache but to no avail. And on the start menu everything looks fine.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

A:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

Hello, I found this website while looking for help on this matter.

I noticed that, on the family computer, sometimes this weird icon shows up on the taskbar. When I right click it, it shows options to add keys, but I don't know if someone has access to the PC because of it or if it is triggered to open by something on the computer itself and is harmless.

I don't understand much about it. How can I get rid of this PuTTY? I can't find it if look it up on the PC, as suggested in this thread I found: https://forums.techguy.org/threads/putty-rnd-shows-up-in-my-files.826903/#post-6714012

I had to do a clean install on a new hard drive and since then have not been able to get my task bar balloons to show. For example, when using the Safely Remove Hardware icon, I don't get the Now Safe To Remove balloon. I only get a popping sound. When running a Mcafee virus scans, I can't view the scan progress when resting the cursor over the icon. I do get the identifying pop up and that is all. I've tried the log off and on tip but it didn't work. Can anyone help me?

A:[SOLVED] taskbar icon balloons not showing

On windows 8.1, my taskbar, one day, suddenly stopped displaying the audio icon on the taskbar. When I right click it, go to the properties, and click customize, it doesn't show the audio icon as an option. When I click, "turn system icons on or off," I can see the audio icon, but it is locked to off. I don't know where to look from here.

A:[SOLVED] Not Showing Audio Icon On Taskbar

Method 1:
There is no option available in control panel volume settings to show volume icon like earlier operating system. In Windows 8 and 8.1 you can enable volume icon by modifying ?Turn system icons on or off? option.
Right click on or near time clock in notification area and select Properties.

Make sure Volume icon is set ?On? as shown below, if it were off, make it on to show volume icon.

If the above step hasn?t help, ?Restore default icon behaviors? which may bring back the missing icon.

This is the normal procedure to get back the volume icon. In case the Volume icon option ( on/off) grayed out and you can?t change it, then follow the method 2.

Method 2: If volume icon is missing and you can?t enable it from ?Turn system icons on or off? area, then that could be an issue with explorer process. The following two methods can solve the issue.
a) Kill the explorer.exe from Processes or Details tab under task manager. Find out all explorer.exe and kill them, make sure no explorer.exe is running in the task manager. After that, on the file menu select new process or Run (or new tasks), type ?explorer? and press OK. It will start the new explorer process. That should bring back the volume icon, if it hasn?t, redo the method 1

This method has brought back missing volume icon on my Windows 8.1 computer.
b) Registry modification- Its recommended to take a backup before modifying registry.
Open registry editor in Windows and find out;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

After modifying registry keys, you need to kill and restart the explorer.exe process to take effect.

I hope one of the above method will fix your issue!

You know, the small icon that appears in your taskbar when connecting a USB device? It no longer shows up, so now I have to go to Windows Explorer and click "Eject" directly on the USB device. How can I have this icon re-appear?

It's the one that let's you select your USB device to "Safely remove device".

if it is not just 'hidden', try this

This will bring up the add remove wizard. When I did this, it actually put the icon back in my task bar as soon as I removed my USB drive.

At Windows 7, I created 3 program shortcuts which execute same executable. Then I changed icons for second shortcut and third shortcut. When I launched the executable from the second and third shortcut, the taskbar icon of the executable will be that of the shortcut icon instead of the executable MainForm icon. Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

My usb icon does not show. Its not a big deal but it really annoys me when things dont work the way they are supposed to especially when they used to. This happened about a month ago. I turned on my laptop and bam, all of a sudden icons arent showing up and looking through forums i have fixed all but one. When i plug in any mass storage device (usb; flash drive, external hard drive, mp3 player) the icon shows a general icon as if the icon was missing. I have attatched a picture so you can see exactly what I am talking about. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be GREATLY appreciated.

When I Hover Over An Icon On The Taskbar Like In The Picture Any Help?

A:Windows 7 Taskbar Icon Problem

Hello Jimbob, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It looks like you are not using a Aero theme, so this would be why the taskbar icons are in list mode instead of showing thumbnail previews when you hover over them.

looking for a way to unhide the taskbar with only the windows key. often while working on a program the taskbar pops up when my mouse gets too close to the edge. I like it hidden. Ive tired extendedUIhovertime and hovertime mouse registry changes but then dont work. I tried thrid party apps but they took up cpu and were termpermental. i dont like docking programs so please dont suggest those.

The goal here is to un-hide the taskbar with just the windows key and not mouseover

my ideas is

Im using a laptop so it doesnt have monitor dispaly position functions
a have a NVIDIA video card
the ideas was to move my display one pixel down that way the mouse could not reach it

anyone know a app that can do this or have any other ideas?

A:how do you unhide taskbar with only windows icon key?

I might be able to make one, if that's alright. Most of the apps I make are pretty small... you might be able to use them. But you'd have to settle for something other than just the Win key, as it would get disabled for opening the start menu and instead for the taskbar. Would you be okay with Win key + Spacebar?

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 7720.  Since upgrading to Windows 10 I can adjust the volume using the function keys,  but not with a mouse as there is no speaker icon in the taskbar.
I have gone through the 'customise notifications area'  options, and the volume option is enabled under "turn system icons on or off'.  Still, there is no speaker icon showing in the task bar.

A:No volume icon in taskbar since Windows 10

The volume icon has returned for me.  Is there no way to delete a thread here?

But while I'm here....  I'm still having problems with audio not being as loud.  Max volume seems half as loud as it used to be.  Anyone have any ideas?

To change the text in the Taskbar, right-click Desktop to open Personalize, Window Color and Appearance.
Go to Advanced.
In the drop-down menu, select 3D Objects, and Text size. You can change the text size (and color) to the one you want. If that doesn't work, trying selecting Icon, and see if that changes the text in the Taskbar.

A:IE icon in taskbar got disabled after windows update

Hello SevenBeginner, and welcome to Seven Fourms.

Not sure why it was doing that before, but by default when you click on the pinned IE9 icon on the taskbar, it will open one instance of IE9. Clicking on the IE9 icon again will just show you it's taskbar thumbnail preview with more than on IE9 instance or tab opened. If only one IE9 and/or tab is open, the clicking on the icon will minimize/unminimize the window.

However, you could open another tab in IE9.

You could also right click on the pinned IE9 icon on the taskbar, and click on Internet Explorer in the jump list to open another instance of IE9.

Hope this helps,

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to change the taskbar icon for Firefox Portable?

A few failed attempts........

Right clicking shortcut and choosing 'change icon' - only works for shortcut. Original FF icon still shows up on taskbar.

Using a resource hacker - have tried 5 so far, and none have worked. They only corrupt the .exe file for the browser and causes it not to launch.

Using very HARSH language - only temporarily relieves tension, icon problem remains.

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

I'm running 8.1 legit

Hi,

After I updated to the latest Windows 10 "upgrade" (Build 1511, 10586) released yesterday thru Windows Update, my system shows only the Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar instead of the Ethernet Network icon which it used to display earlier. I have a wired broadband connection, and keep my Wi-Fi Adapter settings "Disabled". Yet, the icon shows the Aeroplane mode of Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar, instead of the Network icon it used to display before this update. At times my wired BB connection tends to become unstable, so I need to keep track if the connection is down, before I do some critical activity on Internet, like large download (which I may be unable to Resume), or Netbanking or online shopping, etc.
How do I get the Network icon instead of the Wi-Fi icon on the Taskbar in the new Build 1511 ?

Welcome to Seven Forums juiceimus. The fact you don't have it synced makes it difficult, as that is a fix. I have 2 ideas for you:

Right click the Chrome shortcut> Properties> Compatibility Tab> Change compatibility to Vista

See if that works (you could try other compatibility choices as well. This would be a workaround as the fix is something you can't do

Also, you might try unpinning the icon, Open Chrome from the start menu by right clicking the Chrome icon and choosing Run as administrator. Now pin that instance of Chrome to the taskbar, and see of that helps.

this is a simple one , open firefox from your taskbar, when the other firefox icon shows pin that one to the taskbar also, then unpin the first one, then drag the newly pinned ff icon to where you want it on the taskbar

Okay when I turn my computer on, it goes through all of the normal stuff, but then it automatically logs on to my main account (which I use, but it's password protected and everything) and all of my scanners did not find any problems.

Also, the volume control icon does not show on the taskbar anymore. It comes back after going into control panel > sounds, speech, and audio devices > sounds and audio devices > uncheck "place volume icon in the taskbar" + click apply > recheck "place volume icon in the taskbar" + click apply

When I go to taskbar properties, the audio icon has "always show"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Automatic Logon to Windows Account / Sound icon on taskbar doesn't show

try deleting the need for a password and immediately reenable it and set a new one. You should NOT automatically bring up the desktop if the password is set.

So, pretty self explanatory, I have this super bizarre problem, whenever I have my taskbar set to small icons in the properties, the taskbar icons are all wrong, for example, the Windows Task Manager will show up as Google Chrome (application seem to take a fancy for that icon) or Adobe Lightroom will show up as the Windows Picture Viewer. I have searched everywhere, and all I can find are cases of missing icons, which is not my problem. Perhaps this is linked to the other problem I am having. (Half of monitor is out of sync.)

A:Bizarre: Windows taskbar shows improper icons in small icon mode

Don't know if I can help but will also try take a look at your problem.

First, just to be clear, note the 3 groups of icons along the bottom of screen image below. On left are Quick Launch icons, middle are open programs, on right are notification icons. Which group(s) are wrong when small? Also, can you right click a wrong icon and select Pin to Start Menu. Does it get pinned with the right or wrong icon?

I had a search hijacker on my Internet explorer (safesear.ch) and on my Chrome browser I had trovi. I removed both. Below are some issues which I did not have before, please help me resolve those
- there is a padlock icon on IE icon which is on the task bar,
- I terminate Chrome and check running processes with task manager, there are two or three Chrome processes still running.

A:Padlock icon on IE icon on taskbar

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Please right click the existing shortcut and click on Unpin this program from the Taskbar,
If you also have a shortcut on your desktop right click and delete it as well,
Close all open ie windows,

Click Start and click on All Programs If ie is also listed as your recently opened programs right click it and Remove from list,

Click on All Programs,
See if ie has a shield on that listing if not Open and right click it on the taskbar and Pin to Taskbar,
Cheers.

Running the current free version on Windows 10. Just ran a scan so it appears to be working fine.  When I open the control panel and pull up "Programs" it is missing from the list. There is an uninstall program in its folder.

Should I consider reinstalling?

A:Why is Malwarebytes not showing under Programs?

I've encountered software which failed to create a program entry in Programs & Features (Add/Remove) from time to time. It's no big deal if everything is working properly and there is an uninstall shortcut in the program folder. If you want to attempt to correct it anyway, one of the solutions generally suggested by the Malwarebytes Help Desk to try first is to uninstall/reinstall using mbam-clean.exe as follows:How to fully Uninstall/Reinstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2xHow do I uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?If it still fails to add an entry you might want to start a new topic in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help Forum and report the issue there so the development team can investigate.

Can you post the full log?And run the following:SUPERAntiSpyware:Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If it will not start, go to Start > All Prgrams > SUPERAntiSpyware and click on Alternate Start. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are unchecked (leave all others checked):
Ignore files larger then 4mbIgnore non-executable files
Now Perform the scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:
Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.[list]Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program.SAS PortableIf you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner. Now GMERGMER does not work in 64bit Mode!!!!!!Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic Full Scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. I have two computers, both of which were infected by various viruses thanks to my daughter. During this time, a fraudulent charge showed up on the credit card we only use for the internet.

The other computer was infected much worse and has been cleaned by help from this forum (thx for that). Malwarebytes says that this computer is clean (but it also said that on the other one), so I'm hoping someone can take a quick look at my logs to ensure that this one is free of infection. I am attaching the logs as instructed by the preparation guide.

Thanks in advance for your time.

If you fix your PC by yourself, this can be very risky! Please stay in contact with me until your problem is resolvedAs Malware may not be totally removed in one session or in one day, please stay in contact with me until the problem is resolved. Please don't run any other tools without consulting with me as this can complicate finding and removing all MalwareDon't run any tools while I'm fixing your PC. A:Taskbar gone, 372 Malwarebytes error, etc...Need help ASAP!

Hello and welcome.Run-time error '372':Failed to load control 'vbalGrid' from vbalsgrid6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid6.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.Download MSFT Visual Basic from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enInstructionsBefore starting the download, create a download directory on your computer. If your internet connection is less than 300K, it is recommended that you run the multi-part download by following the "More Information" link at the upper right, then clicking "Download Now."Click "Download" to begin downloading the single download. When prompted by the download software, choose the option "Save this program to disk" and click OK. Then select the directory you created on your computer. Run the file from the download directory. When prompted, select the same directory you created on your computer. You will be expanding the contents of the EXE into this directory. Run SetupSP6.exe from the download directory. Please look at this screen shot of my desktop. The box in the lower right corner has been popping up every time we log on. It looks fake to me. My antivirus is working just fine. (i hope). so I downloaded Malwarebytes from this site to try and get rid of it. I ran the scan. It showed a couple minor things, but nothing to do with what I think is the problem. The next day that shield appeared on the Malwarebytes icon. I have never seen that before and I dont want to run it if it is infected too? I have windows Vista. Is that shield supposed to be there? I dont ever trust that thing. : )

A:Malwarebytes icon looks strange?

Hello, that shield is Windows Security not Malwarebytes. It's telling you CA is turned off. As you say that is not the caselet's look again. Please run TFC by OTPlease download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean. Now run SAS:Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.Do not run a scan just yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:Open MBAM in normal mode and c... Read more

I have been using Malwarebytes for a couple of years now and have had it running when Windows starts up since I have the paid version therefore it runs in the background as additional protection in addition to my regular anti-virus software Nortons Internet Security Suite whenever there is an update notification to the program to a newer version I allow it to update of course They recently updated to a new version however after Up in Showing Start-up Not Programs Program (Malwarebytes) this update was installed successfully I noticed that in my Program (Malwarebytes) Not Showing Up in Start-up Programs start-up programs msconfig gt Startup tab it is not indicating that it's even in that list EVEN THOUGH the program IS starting with Windows option IS checked off in Malwarebytes to start with Windows amp Malwarebytes icon appears in my bottom task bar after Windows fully starts amp is listed as 'Running' under msconfig gt Services tab It was never like this before this new version update and always was listed checked off in my start-up programs the bottom line is that EVERYTHING is just as it SHOULD be with my Malwarebytes it starts WITH Windows and IS confirmed as 'running' however Windows itself is NOT indicating to me that it's even in my Start-up programs list it doesn't even appear AT ALL in that list Program (Malwarebytes) Not Showing Up in Start-up Programs of start-up programs let alone checked off - so in other words it's not even there listed to be able Program (Malwarebytes) Not Showing Up in Start-up Programs to select and check off any possible fix to this Thanks for any help

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.
Thanks.

pick properties
open the Taskbar tab

You could try Always combine, hide labels

A:Please help! Internet not working! MalwareBytes showing hijack.regedit...

The log states that no action was taken... Or did you only do the scan again to post it here?
As for the restart, there is a known worm-variant that does this kind of stuff, does it do this in safe mode as well?
It might be a good thing to back up all your essential data on a removable storage device, just in case...
Because Malwarebytes doesnt come up with anything special, I would suggest to use Dr. Web Cure it (http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit//), however there are more experienced members on this forum, so you may want to wait for their opinions as well.

this is being flagged by TrendMicro-HouseCall.
always thought both were very reputable sources, i have posted in other places to get this noticed so that the detection is either proved, or shown as safe.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com
this cnet site shows as trusted by avast link scanner but gives out the above mentioned file which shows as threat by trend micro.

i then got the malwarebytes file from bleeping computer
here: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Download

i scanned that, this is clean, here is the virus total report on that file
https://www.virustotal.com/file/9007...is/1343801364/

so basically the trusted link to cnet was showing as threat in the file.
and so was the malwarebytes site which also has the cheek to ask for an email address before passing out the malwarebytes file to download.

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

A:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

Sometimes when I boot up MSE doesn't show up in my taskbar. I set it to always show up, but it still doesn't. When I run MSE it says it is monitoring my computer and I am protected. Just wondering if there is any cause to worry over this?

A:MSE not showing up in taskbar

Maybe it is behind the little arrow "show hidden icons". If yes, just drag it from there to the taskbar.
