Q: Windows 7 workstation on domain network , rebooted workstation and login is all gone

So I rebooted the win7 workstation went to login to it normally with the users credentials and it acts like its a new user login everything is default all pst's, docs, favs, everything is gone . If you browse the windows explorer you can see there are other similar profiles that it looks like used to be . What would happen if I tried to rename a user in Active directory?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

We have a workstation here that is running NT 4 wkstn and it will join our domain, but we can't see it in Active Directory Users and Computers. Obviously, it can't login to the domain for this reason. Does anyone have any ideas why? Thank you.

How do I add a computer with a Windows 7 Profession OS to a network domain. I was able to add computers with the Windows XP Professional OS quite easily. However, with Windows 7 Pro OS I am getting DNS errors.

I have a window desktop 64 bit that I joined to a domain and migrated the profile from a workgroup to a domain using profwiz.exe

Everything is fine except for the network drives which disappeared a few times.

Whether I am logging off or the user just sits there, it wouild disappear and I have no idea why this is happening.

Can anyone help me with a possible solution or reasonf or this to be happening?

Event viewer does not show any problems related to this.

I managed to create a quick .bat file to remapped the drive on login and on the user desktop that she can run when she can't get into them.

I set up a new Windows 7 professional system and now, for some reason, the system will only let me log into using a local user. I cannot access the domain user account. I can see all the workstations/servers but unable to change from local to domain user.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently using a Windows 7 (x64) computer on a Domain. The Domain Controller is a Windows 2008 R2 computer. I have Administrator access to the Windows Server as a result I can alter any settings that I see fit.

Recently a number of staff members have been logging onto my Windows 7 computer without my consent.

I would like to limit access to my computer so that only my Domain Account can logon. Ideally this will mean only allowing my personal Domain Account access, and by extension prevent the Domain Administrator from logging on as well. I am not the only staff member with Domain Administrator privileges, and I ultimately want to make my computer inaccessible to all staff with the exception of myself (naturally).

Any suggestions here will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately we can not advise on this issue as it could be in breach of the company's policies and we have no way of proving what rights you have to block access to your account. We would be totally in the wrong if we were to give any advice that could circumvent company policy.

If you are permitted to make such changes then your Domain Administrator is the person you need to ask.

To synchronize the contacts and messages with my Exchange Server, Windows 10 requires an increase of the work stations security, forcing a new Windows login
after a specified inactivity period.
Once the increased security is implemented users can only play with an inactivity period range of 1 to 5 minutes.

In my capacity of Administrator of the network, I would like to be able to increase the value of the inactivity value beyond 5 minutes for those stations that
are not exposed to public access, which requires that Microsoft communicate to me the name and address of the Register key which controls the inactivity period after which a new login is required.

I really need that Register key to resolve my problem!

I'm helping a Dental Office get their current workstations upgraded. All workstations are complete and ready to swap out the old hardware, except i am worried that when the users go to log back into the domain from the new pc's, they won't be able to.

The previous IT guy said they are local profiles, located on each individual PC and not on the server? I thought setting up a Domain was so people could log in from any computer on the network?

Right click on My Computer, Properties, Computer Name. Click on the Change button and you can change the status to a Workgroup login there. See the following illustration.

I recently rebuilt a Windows XP Pro workstation one of my client's sites. They have a domain server running Windows 2003 SBS, and the workstation is connected via a Linksys wireless network.

After successfully logging on the domain, I can access everything just fine. I begin to browse shares on the server with no problem for about a minute, then get a popup saying "working offline" and can no longer browse.

After this happens, I still have connection to the internet thru the server, and I can successfully ping it, but no longer have access to the shares.

I've search the MS knowledge base and the web, but can find no answers.

Can anybody figure out what would cause this workstation to disconnect from the domain after about a minute?

Via a wireless router? have you checked the log in the router? find the log and select loggin only connections for a short time.
Next signal strength. If it dips down to two bars, sometimes they will disconnect. Attempt to move it and connect via cable and see if this doesn't occur. That will determine if it is wireless issue.

Unfortunately, we still have a win98 workstation. I am having trouble configuring it to log on to our 2kserver domain. I have taken the following steps so far -

1. Installed dsclient.exe from the 2kserver OS disk
2. Started the WINS service on the 2kserver
3. Configured the win98 workstation to use WINS & enabled netBIOS over TCP/IP
4. Configured the win98 workstations 'Client for Microsoft Networks' properties to log on to a Windows NT domain and specified the domain name (beachbros).
5. Created an object in AD for the computer

On entering the username and password, an error message is displayed - 'no domain server was available to validate your password.........'

I am hoping somebody will be able to provide me with a checklist of the config changes required both on the 2kserver and the win98 workstation. I would be very grateful as I don't have much experience with win98.

I have 30 computers that are able to join my new domain but one Win XP Pro machine can not. When attempting to join I get message domain cannot be found but I can ping the domain by both IP address and name. Also, when I use the Windows Explore the domain does not show under Microsoft connections like it does on other PCs that are not part of the domain. I did check the hosts file and nothing there seems to indicate any problems. This PC, to my knowledge, is setup like every other PC on my network. Any suggestions on what to try? Thanks to whoever can offer any suggestions.

I use workgroups to divide my domain into manageable sub-groups. I can't seem to get the NT workstations to join a work group and a domain. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?

I have installed vmware workstation 10 on my window 7 computer. In the vmware i have server 2012, window 7, and window 8 running in my vmware. Have AD DS and DNS up and running on the server, but everytime i try to join window 7 and 8 to the domain keep getting an error. Think my problem lies with the configuration of the network adaptor settings in vmware... Can anyone HELP!!!!

I have't been able to find anything on this error and it is a first for me.
I am attempting to rename an XP workstation on My Network. When I go through the steps logged in as the Domain Admin, I end up with an error message that reads:

Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred:
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.

I of course have re-booted the workstation several times and even re-booted the server. I don't see an open share for the PC or the Admin account in "open Sessions" on the server.

I am stumped at this point. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Usually this happens because the pc is in the wrong OU (or the pc itself is not joined properly) or the security certificate is expired.

I have been tasked with the job allowing a specific set of users to log on certain workstations. For example, only accounting users will have access to the workstations in the accounting department. They will not be able to use workstations in
other departments and other department users  will not be able to use the accounting department workstations. I am manually testing a few workstations.

What I have done so far:
Administrators Group
In the administrators group: I have Domain Admins and the Administrator account (I have to remove local admin rights for our users)
Users Group
In the users group: I currently have Authenticated users and interactive users. 

I want to remove authenticated users and add the accounting group, system, and domain admins.
Is this ok to do? If I should not remove authenticated users, I need to explain why and document.  Thank you.

Hello all. I am setting up a laptop for a new user on our server, and while trying to add the user account locally to the laptop from my server administrator account, I'm receiving a message that "The user could not be added because the following error has occurred: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."

Thank you in advance for any help. I'd be glad to provide any other information that may be helpful in solving this. I have searched some, but have discovered that most help I've found is too jargoned for me to truly understand. I can handle most basic things, which is why our company (that doesn't have a formal IT person) has me handling most IT issues.

If they are all VPN'd together then you should be able to join the computers to the domain unless there is a Firewall blocking them from accessing it.

Hi all,

Over the last week or so, we have experienced an epidemic of Windows 7 PCs displaying the message "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed".

We have had to manually unjoin and rejoin over 140+ PCs in the last week alone, however some of these same PCs have the same message re-occuring again today...

So i'm in a rut here, why are the Pcs coming back up with the same Trust message when we already manually fixed them last week....

Need urgent help to fix this.

Hi,
I am in the process to deploy EMET in my organization. My goal is to set all the settings using GPO.
As it is indicated in the User Guide 5.2, I already copied the EMET.admx and EMET.adml in the domain server and I managed to set the settings. I run gpupdate /force in the client and it works flawless.
But now, I wanted to configure the Certification Trust as well using the CertTrust.xml included in the EMET package.
how could I manage this globally in the domain?  I dont see any option in the GPO... and unfortunately, we dont use SCCM.

Question We have some Windows Pro OSs and we have been playing with them and seeing how things are compatible with the software we use Well the only issue Trust Primary workstation 7 and between Window Domain, Relationship this we have been having is adding users to the PC I add the PC to the domain without a problem I supply my creditials and I can connect to our domain I log back in to the PC under the local admin on the PC and Trust Relationship between this workstation and Primary Domain, Window 7 try to add users that will be using the PC I attempt to add our security group quot PCADMINS quot and I get quot The trust relationship between the workstation and the primary domain failed quot I then just try my username and it gave the same error I logoff as the local admin login using my username and domain and try to add my username again Still I get the same error I try the group quot PCADMINS quot get the same error Mind you the level I am granting to the user is Administrator I logoff my username and domain I log back in as local admin on the PC and manage user accounts and try to add my username and this time it works So I try adding another user it fails with that same error So I logoff as local admin login as that user that I want to add Log off and log back in as local admin and I am able to add that user So it seems that if I login on the PC once as the user I want to add I am able to then add them as a user If I dont login as that user first I get quot The trust relationship between the primary domain failed quot Also at some points I am able to add the security group PCADMINS to the device Where is my error Is it my Active Directory Is it something with Windows I have done the whole disjoin rejoin and I still get the same results Any ideas nbsp

Hello, I need help again. We have several computers withWin7 Ent and Pro 64 and 32 bit. . For some i-dont-know reason, it showed 'the trust relationship between this workstation & the primary domain failed' when we login. It happened few times already. The issue is resolved if we reconnect the pcs to the domain. Please lhelp me understand why this keeps happening and the if there is a permanent fix. I will appreciate all ideas.

A client had the same problem; here is what we did to fix it.

Step 1: Make sure the Date/Time/Time Zone are correct on all DC's. Connect to the internet and update the time.
Step 2: Get and take all Microsoft Updates. Reboot as required. Do one DC at a time.
Step 3: Shutdown (i.e. power off) all but one DC. Wait about 5 minutes and then shutdown the Last DC.
Step 4: Wait about 5 minutes and then turn ON the Last DC that was turned off.
Step 5: Wait about 5 minutes and then turn on all remaining DCs.
Step 6: Wait 30 minutes and then unjoin and reboot any computer that was not working. Set the Time/Date/Time Zone and rejoin it to the domain.

The above should correct the problem and prevent other machines from dis-joining.

I am working on the server database, but I do not have an idea on how will I work with the workstations. I have here a Login Database using Access 2003. I would like the login form to appear before the virtual desktop of the user appears. The objective of the database is to automatically save the activities(Time logged in, Time logged out, Saving Files, etc.) of every user.

I have a workstation that won't see the network. This problem is intermitent. sometime during the evenings this guy can login fine, but almost always during the day he can't. I've changed NIC's, Patch Cables, Reinstalled his network stuff. I've even moved the computer to ensure the switch wasn't mac filtering or anything. Anyone have any sugestions. Its Windows XP.

This system is to be used to network a small office of about 10 computersClick to expand...

If your going to use this as a "server" if you have 10 computers your on the cusp of having network problems because Windows XP pro only allows for 10 connections.

Another thought if its a server you may want to look at some kind of backup solution unless your going to use the DVD burner for that.

Other than that this looks okay but there is no mention of an ethernet card... won't this PC as stated below have a hard time being on a network?

Clean install of vmware workstation v12.01 (x64)

Immediately after installation I lost network connection.
Network connection did not return.
Tried to reboot my PC as often such issues are 'solved' after a reboot.
Could not close my pc and had to shut it down the 'hard way' (powerbutton)

Restored the Windows image that I created just before installing Workstation.

Windows 10 x64 (retail version)

Any suggestions?

One of the workstations at work can't find a web server we have at the office. The web server is accesible from any other computer in the office.

The workstation that can't find the network path to the server is on the same domain as the rest of the machines, its internet connection works perfectly, any ideas what could be wrong?

Workstations run win xp, web server runs win 2003 server.

I have 2 NT Workstation 4 SP5 automatically multiplying a single network drive mapping to all available drive letters. There has been no pattern to which drive letter it picks to multiply. How do I make it stop!

Hi all,

In days of yore it was recommended to create a boot disk...just in case. I don't know whether this is still in practice with Windows XP. From what I can see online...it is. I am trying to help out a small law office who is planning to upgrade to xp. I'd planned to write instructions for them for creating their start-up disks. One question I was asked (and couldn't answer) was whether each workstation needed it's own, or if they could just create one boot disk on one workstation and keep it in the safe for all to use.

Does anyone know? Thanks!

I know that network connectivity is not the issue; I need to make it possible for users to access the domain from that computer as quickly as possible to avoid losing profit for the company. I also do not want to create any issues for a third-party application that identifies computers by SID. What should I do?

I have ideas, but I don't know if any will actually fix the problem. PLEASE HELP.

-Reinstalling Windows on the computer and create a new account in the domain
-Rename the computer and create a new computer account with the new name in ADUC
-Reset the computer account in ADUC, move the computer to a workgroup and then rejoin it to the domain
-Move the computer to a workgroup then rejoin it to a domain.

Hi so I am pretty new to VMware but I had been using for awhile but now I updated to and the network settings are very hard to configure the virtual network editor if you know VMWare Solved: Network Configuration. A:Windows NT Workstation

If you have windows 2000 running on your system, then I personally would not purchase and install windows NT 4.0 unless you want to take a look at it and learn something about it.

It is possible that if your hardware is too new, then you may have problems finding drivers for it. Also NT does not have USB support.

You cannot compare NT to ME they fit different purposes - business vs home.
The righ comparison would be win95 or NT...( but still fit different purposes)

If you would like to upgrade the OS and find something better then ME, then get XP Home.

Hi All We have some HP laptops at work running at Windows The laptop is connected 8 Workstation Freezes. with Windows to the domain and works perfectly fine It has some Group Policies applied on it and some network Workstation with Windows 8 Freezes. drives As soon as you disconnect it from the network domain laptop just freezes It does not Workstation with Windows 8 Freezes. really freeze at all but you cannot do a single thing You can only do ctrl alt delete and all the applications installed on it won't work at all Based on my analysis the reason that it freezes as soon as we disconnect it from the network is that it is looking for the apps that can only be found when connected to the network But after you connect back the ethernet cable it works fine again like nothing happened Any troubleshooting tips you think I can do on this one I dont really know where to start We have windows and XP implemented on the network but it does not experience the issue if you disconnect it from the network It just works well and synchronizes back on the network when you connect the cable back again or connect it thru our wifi network Help

If you are using VMWare Workstation with Windows 8.1 you will have to reinstall it. I attempted a repair first but that didn't work so I removed and reinstalled, and now all is working just fine. VMWare player worked without having to do a reinstall. . . good luck.

A:Windows 8.1 and VMWare Workstation

I did an uninstall/reinstall of VMWare Player 5.0.2 after upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1.
VMWare and the VMs ran OK but the Windows upgrade messed up the virtual network adapters.

The upgrade to Windows 8.1 also reset many of the preferences in my local user account, including such things as File Explorer settings, RDC default folder, Send To items, etc.
Overall relatively painless, but probably a bit confusing and frustrating for anyone non-technical, as once again the upgrade attempts to force you into creating a new online user account.

I run almost everything in VMs though, the only software installed on the Windows 8.x host is MS Office HS 2007, VMWare, and WinZip. So I wasn't expecting too much difficulty with the upgrade.

So far I do like the upgrade changes though...

Hi Recently had a computer 7 Z400 HP workstation Windows - get a blank screen on HP Z400 workstation - Windows 7 reboot it would loop in the Windows Professional bit startup repair utility I was unable to repair from an image so I had ordered the Reinstall Repair disks from HP While waiting I googled the error and found symptoms similar to others who had a rootkit virus and they mentioned getting to the desktop by choosing the boot option of not verifying signatures and then cleaned the virus with TDSSKiller from Kaspersky Those suggestions worked in our case and TDSSKiller found the infection in MBR Program said it was removed and I did an additional scan with MSSE MS security essentials and everything looked good Her computer shut down over the weekend for windows updates and on reboot the virus was back I followed the same procedures but I believe the malware virus is still residing in the master boot record I need some guidance on additional steps to clean it up thank you Gabe

Hi All,

I'm having an issue here at work with the laptops used by workers to take out of the office. As far as I remember, windows has cached the logins for all users on the laptop so long as they have logged into the domain while connected to the network at least once.

It appears that now, windows is only remembering the most recent login - all other users will receive a "There are no logon servers available to service the logon request"

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 only caches one Login when disconnected from network/domain

By default all Windows computers should store 10 cached logins. Please check and possible change the value to a higher one and test to see if the issue is resolved - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172931

If you have many machines then you may wish to push any changes that you make through a startup script using group policy

I installed windows nt workstation 4.0 on my computer (toshiba Satellite 2615DVD) and i installed the video drivers for nt 4.0 from toshibas site but i can't get more than 16 colors! it did say something about driver installation being messed up, try again, but i tried again and again and it wont let me get more than 16 colors!! what should i do?

Hello All,
I wasn't sure wther to post in the vista forum or the NT workstation forum but as the current OS I am using is Vista I will post in this.
I was wondering if it was possible to dual boot Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Windows Vista (Windows Vista being the current OS, which is one of the problems as it blocks me running setup). I tried running setup in safe mode which it let me do, it then copied files needed to install to the hard drive, and when it restarted nothing came up and vista booted as normal.

Any Ideas, or is it not even possible and am I wasting my time LOL.

Not sure that would be worth the time or effort.

As the system is running Vista now probably isn't gonna run with NT4. Different hardware

requirements and not gonna find the drivers.

You can't run the install from within Windows. You would need to boot to the cd to run

the setup process. Depending on the disk that you have you will need the setup floppies

Also earlier version of windows will need to be installed first and then later version .

So IMO this would be a waste of time to even attempt. Not saying that it will even work.

Just my thoughts on it.

Hi, a workstation on our domain running windows 7 64 bit downloaded updates from microsoft. There was about a hundred of them. Since they installed the machine won't connect to the network shares. It can access the internet easily enough.
The Workstation Service won't start. It comes up with an error 1068: The dependancy service or group failed to start.
I used System restore to go back before the updates and everything worked again. Installed the updates and the problem re-appears.
I have 2 wireless network adaptors so I disabled one. I'm no expert at this sort of thing and any help would be appreciated.

You'll probably want to find update causing that. Do not install all of them at once, go in "packs" of 10 (for example) so you will be able to narrow down issue to 10 updates and then find one in fault. Also disregard optional updates for now.

A customer brought this problem to me, and I've never really dealt with SCSI before. This is an HP Workstation, dual processor capable, SCSI workstation. 2 18 Gb RAID-0. THey were installing XP servie pack 2, and someone rebooted it right in the middle. So now its in a constant loop whenever it loads Windows. They need the information off the drives, and I've tried BertPE, ClusterKnoppix, and even ERDCommander 2005 to see if I can access the drives. None of them can do it. The hardware is fine, I just need a way to get the information off the RAID drives. Help anyone? I'm going to try to install XP on a IDE drive, and use it as the master drive, see if I can get the information that way. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

My hard drive crashed and I had to replace with a new one.  I upgraded to Windows 10 and utilized HP website for the drivers.  The problem is that some of my USB ports will not work and I'm getting 3 "Base system devices" 1 "PCI serial Port" and 2 "Unknown Devices" that will not install in my device manager.  I tried all of the drivers on the web site and I cannot find the original discs that came with the machine. The rear USB devices and the hidden wireless keyboard/Mouse port are not working.

I recently tried to set up a 120 Gb hard drive as a slave on one of my NT 4 machines but the drive is not showing up when i boot up.
does anyone please know A if NT will support this size of drive, and if so how I go about setting it up please.

It might be more of a issue with whether the BIOS on the computer will support it.

Before NT starts, does it show up?
Try going into your CMOS and make sure it is correctly detected by your computer.

If this doesn't work, you might check to see if there is a flash update for your BIOS to support such a large drive.

A:Z420 Workstation troubleshooting in Install Windows

If you have more than 1 disk in your system, and you have RAID+AHCI set, then you likely need to jump into the raid controller BIOS at boot time (by pressing "CTRL C" if i recall correctly) and define a virtual disk or VD (which can wipe existing data so be warned). Then when windows install loads, you will see the virtual disk that you have create earlier and can thus select this VD for the install to continue. This assumes the install media has the (chipset) raid drivers which i think is the case. If the install disk does not have the required (chipset) raid drivers, then you may need to place them on a usb drive and point the install to it using F8, at which point you will see your VD and can continue with the install. If it all sounds like too much, you can remove all but one HDD and then RAID function will not be relevant as it will fall back to simple AHCI. If you still don't see the lone HDD, try and add the chipset drivers using the F8 method. I had similar issues a while ago on my Z210 and solved it by using default BIOS firmware settings, then created a VD and lastly placed Intels RST driver, specifically the F8 driver on a USB and during the Windows install process pressed F* and pointed to the USB drive where the driver was seen and loaded at which time my VD was visable so all could continue.

Select your image (give it focus in PowerPoint).
Click on Insert (tab).

Click on Action; the Action Settings popup opens.
In Action on click, select Hyperlink to:
Click the dropdown list, scroll to the bottom and select Other File...; the Hyperlink to Other File popup opens.

Navigate to and select your "other file" (your Word.doc file).

Click OK.

Now run your PP project (Slide Show tab > From Beginning) and click on your hotspot - Word will open your document with focus ("in front").

I have setup a network with a windows 2003 server and 3 workstations. I can access the 3 workstations linked to my server, but I cannot access the server from the workstations... getting an error msg saying that I don't have permission to access the server.

I was coding on a customers project last week and then MS re-booted my laptop and upgraded it to Windows 10 without my consent. Since then when I to build my Install Shield LE 2015 setup project my used to be perfectly stable windows 8.1 laptop now BSOD. To say that I'm less than impressed with microsoft is an understatement.

All I want to do is have two Admin level access passwords into Windows xp & vista.
The only level of control difference being the inability to change each other passwords.
Otherwise, each user gets exactly the same priveliges, outlook accounts, desktop network, performance, security and programme settings. If one user changes something , it shows up when the other user logs in.
Can somebody please tell me how to do this?

If you want you useraccounts to have administrators privileges on your workstations, then they can do anything.

If you want your users to shraed te same desktop and applkications settings then you can have them to share the same user profile.
There are ways to do this in a domain environment (roaming profiles / mandatory profiles) but I don't know if that can be done without a domain.

Try look at an application like this - http://www.research-lab.com/userprofilemirrorread.htm.

This might be helpful in this case.

Hi I have a bit of a dilemma...

i have this oooold desktop whose CPU died during a power surge (i think), and i have replaced it with an equally ooold CPU which a friend gave me, and i think this replacement computer used to run on windows NT workstation 4.0.

when i plugged this replacement computer into my original monitor, it just started searching for a boot disk in drive A:

my friend has no boot disk or backups of this computer (it has been sitting in his garage for god knows how long)

i did find boot disks available for download on the internet for windows NT workstation 4.0 and windows 98SE

and i do have the backup CD's for a laptop which runs on win98SE- so i was wondering if i downloaded one of the boot disks, would i be able 2 "recover" my system with my laptop's windows software?

If you want to recover your data, I suggest Knoppix. It is a Linux distro, and it can recognize NTFS as well as FAT.

I am currently using a Windows 7 (x64) computer on a Domain. The Domain Controller is a Windows 2008 R2 computer. I have Administrator access to the Windows Server as a result I can alter any settings that I see fit.

Recently a number of staff members have been logging onto my Windows 7 computer without my consent.

I would like to limit access to my computer so that only my Domain Account can logon. Ideally this will mean only allowing my personal Domain Account access, and by extension prevent the Domain Administrator from logging on as well. I am not the only staff member with Domain Administrator privileges, and I ultimately want to make my computer inaccessible to all staff with the exception of myself (naturally).

Any suggestions here will be greatly appreciated.

I'm running Windows and VMWare Workstation and I cannot access the internet from any virtual VMWare 7 7 internet Workstation - access + Windows no machines using bridged connections I used to be able to so I'm not quite sure what happened I did not modify anything within VMWare bridged connections are set as they Windows 7 + VMWare Workstation 7 - no internet access were by default - to use vmnet They are capable of pulling an IP and DHCP info from the router but beyond Windows 7 + VMWare Workstation 7 - no internet access that they cannot access the internet or do anything else On the win host machine under network Windows 7 + VMWare Workstation 7 - no internet access adapters I do not see vmnet listed - I'm not sure if it is supposed to be or not It only shows vmnet host-only and vmnet NAT I would rather use bridged connections if possible but just cannot seem to get it to work Yesterday I couldn't even get NAT to work It could ping servers but I couldn't actually use the internet - I guess ICMP was working but not TCP for some reason although I hadn't modified anything I updated from VMWare to and now NAT works but bridged connections still fail Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be I've searched the web for solutions but haven't found any that worked disable vmware adapters modify registry so that they don't show up under public unidentified networks etc Could it be related to the fact that vmnet doesn't show up anywhere on the host machine I'm not sure if it is supposed to or not - vmnet and vmnet both show up under network adapters and using ipconfig all However vmnet does not show up between either In VMWare Virtual Network Editor vmnet and vmnet are listed as host connected whereas vmnet just has a dash However the 'connect to host' button does not function for bridged connections like it does for the rest of the connections so perhaps it's not supposed to show up on the host machine - I don't know

I have been using VMware Workstation with various OS's for a while and think it's great. However with my Windows 10 x64 TP guest, even though I installed VM tools - it's almost like VM tools isn't running. I can't drag and drop files from host to VM desktop, and although USB flash drives say connected, they don't appear in file explorer.

I installed 10 as an 8 VM, if you get my drift, so it's either me doing something stupid or 10 being a bit too new for full Workstation 10 functionality. Have uninstalled/reinstalled VM tools. Any suggestions welcome.

I need Windows 98, 95 and NT to talk to each other.
Windows 98 desktop is hooked up to the hub, a windows 95 laptop is hooked up to the hub, and a laptop Windows Workstation NT hooked up to the same hub. Same workgroup for all 3 machines. NETBUEI is enabled on all 3 machines.
The 2 Windows 95/98 can see each other through netwokr neighborhood. Windows NT can see itself in network neighborhood; but not the other 2 machines.
when I run wntipcfg (on NT), I have as IP address 10.10.10.10 255.255.255.0. I have nothing for the other 2 machines. I then added 10.10.10.11 and 10.10.10.12 to each of the Windows 95/98. But, the 2 machines can still not see the NT. What am I missing?

You would need to share the drive and access over the network

Ok, VMWare Worstation 9 was released on the 23rd August. As a freelance consultant I want to configure Windows 8 Pro to run multiple server virtual farms (AD, SharePoint, exchange etc) . Since I want this to all be hosted on a reasonably high spec laptop so i7 > 16 GB DDR3 etc. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on, or planning to evaluate this type of scenario, on either Client hyper-v or VMWorkstation 9

Well, first and foremost, Hyper-V is going to be included for free, which VMWare Workstation 9.x currently is a $249.00 product.

I'm a VMWare user, but I use the enterprise products at work, am very familiar with how they work and have more of a need to keep things consistent. VMware has always been the better product for me as I often virtualize more Linux boxes than anything else and MS support of Linux clients as a VM has never been that good.

I have a license for VMWare Workstation 8.x, and am unsure yet if I will pony up the $119 for the upgrade. The feature set didn't seem like it was going to really be that advantageous for me. So, my experience on Workstation 9.x might continue to be lacking.

To me, it seems like you want to run MS apps, and you get Hyper-V for free. I would really start there and see if you have concerns. Then consider the cost and feature set of VMWare Workstation.

Hello I m having an issue with sharing a HP printer from a XP Pro print server to a windows workstation The workstations are workstation server windows 7 Sharing printer on print to XP all on the same workgroup and all Sharing printer on XP print server to windows 7 workstation running off the same switch There are some xp workstations and some w worskstations The xp workstations add the printer via the sharename quot Print-SVR HP Colour quot O K but the w machines continually ask me for a password to which I enter and get rejected If I add the printer directly via it s IP address by creating a TCP IP port it works perfectly fine I have disabled all firewalls and set full access to everyone on the printer When I view all the devices on the workgroup I can see the other workstations as well as the print server When I double click on another workstation both XP and W from a W machine I am granted access without being prompted for a password except for the print server When I try the print server I am asked for a password which it does not accept My question is Why am I only asked for a password on the w machines and why does it not accept it when entered Also I have an identical setup at other locations however at these other locations the workstations are either all xp or all windows The print servers are identical and running xp at all locations The only thing that differs at this location is that the workstations are a mix of w and xp on the workgroup I don t see how this could cause a problem as the print server should be indifferent I believe it will be a setting or a permissions issue on the print server but have run out of places to look If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful nbsp

Based on what I read on link #2, only the server version of Windows 8 supports formatting to ReFS file system so I think you must use Windows Server 2012 as a file server instead of 8 or Blue. Also, based on link #2, neither Windows 8 or server 2012 can even boot on a ReFS file system. They can only boot with NTFS. However, with Server 2012, you can probably use disk management to convert all your HDDs to ReFS except the HDD where Server 2012 is installed (not sure if this is true since this is my first time learning about this information, and I've been using Server 2012 as a VM for Metro Apps since its launch).

When I click on the desktop, everything freezes -- except AOL. However, my system does not freeze if I connect to AOL and open a browser, either IE 5.5 or Netscape 4.61 and then click on the desktop. Why is this happening? What can I do to change this? The following applications are running at startup:

1) ICQ 2000
2) Creative Disk Detector
3) Direct CD Wizard
4) Zone Alarm
5) Gator
6) Add-Subtract
7) Norton Antivirus

I usually shut off Add-Subtract immediately unless I am pestered by an add that won't go away.

I can't get new Z workstation to boot into WinPE on Windows x Windows x and Windows x with only and NVMe drive installed to the M slot on the MB I've tried plain OEM Media and WDS with WinPE with different drivers added to the boot wim file all no luck nbsp It seems there must be some sort of bug relating to the Samsung nbsp pro nbsp M nbsp NVMe GB drive I'm using When I leave this as the only drive CDRW the computer always hangs as soon as WinPE starts If I leave the Samsung NVMe drive installed and add another SATA drive such as a Samsung Pro SSD it behaves fine- WinPE then loads and I can see both drives nbsp I was able to install Windows nbsp on the NVMe drive and booted into Win as long as the SATA drive was present As soon as I removed the nbsp SATA drive nbsp and it starts loading windows it immediately hangs again nbsp It shouldn't be NVMe driver support as Windows WinPE has native windows when or booting Samsung... hangs Workstation WinPE Z240 NVMe support and has the same problem so it must be something else I suspect it's either something I have to turn off in the BIOS or some other BIOS UEFI bug nbsp Has anyone seen this before nbsp Thanks nbsp Edit Z has latest BIOS

I have the following workstation configuration :

PROCESSOR - Dual (two processors) - Xeon E5520 8M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 5.86 GT/s Intel? QPI

MOTHERBOARD - Intel Workstation board S5520 SC

GRAPHICS CARD - Palit Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 (986 MB) Dual DVI out

RAM - DDR3 1333 MHz 6 GB (G-Skill)

MONITORS - 2 are connected (Samsung Sync Master 2233 & NEC Accusync LCD 224WXM)

CURRENT OPERATING SYSTEM - Windows XP 64 bit

The problem with the above configuration is that when I try to install Windows 7, the machine freezes (hangs) randomly, I have tried formatting and installing for at-least 4-5 times now but what happens is the setup doesn't work and stops during installation, last time the setup was successful but it hangs the workstation without any reason. I have also tried installing the same CD on other system and it works fine.

Can anybody help me out with the problem!!!!

OK, I have googled and googled but I cannot find any succesfull solution for my problem.
Actually, I found one solution but it doesn't work with Windows Server 2008.

My audio device does not work, when I try to activate it it says "The Audio Service is Not Running."

I started the audio service, and it says: "The Dependency or local group failed to start"

After a bit of research, I discovered that you have to start the dependency, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder. (I checked all the other dependencies, they are started.) When I try to start this, the error comes up:
"Error 0x80070002: System cannot find the file specified."

How can I start the audio?
This is necessary to use my Server 2008.

I have discovered a solution for myself!
I can't find the original page, but this worked for me.
I almost cried when hearing my system sounds.

For future reference:

1. Run cmd
2. Navigate into

Code:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Audiosrv
3. Look at the DependOnService entry
4. Right click, edit, and remove all values except RpcSs
5. Restart, and cry with joy.

I believe this works on other Vista versions also.

Or, if you're afraid that you might mess something up, try this registry entry.
Save, right click and press "Modify".

(I am not sure if that will work, if it doesn't, try the first method.)

Dell is not supporting installation of Windows on the M it does on the M and M but nbsp Microsoft s Windows tool was reporting the PC would be compatible so I m sure Dell doesn t recommend this but I created Workstation Precision Windows M6600 Experience Installing 10 Mobile on with Windows a backup of my C drive and created a system recovery disk so I could go back to Win if I wanted Installed the free Windows upgrade choosing to quot Install on This PC quot over the existing operating system The install came up OK with the PC working but not without a nasty surprise with my HP Printer driver for a LaserJet MFP nw printer which not only was not working but also was not corrupted in my Windows control panel If I tried to run any HP printer app or delete the driver in Control Panel etc a Windows error screen appeared saying the Administrator blocked uninstalling or running it because it wasn t safe no signature Experience Installing Windows 10 on M6600 Precision Mobile Workstation Of course I was logged in as the Window Admin so there s Experience Installing Windows 10 on M6600 Precision Mobile Workstation was no way to uninstall the old Windows printer drivers HP Support confirmed they would have Experience Installing Windows 10 on M6600 Precision Mobile Workstation no solution except to recommend I do clean install of Windows Suggestion delete any HP printer drivers before trying a Windows upgrade FYI when you upgrade Win over Win you within the next days have an option to revert back to Windows -- it saves a recovery version on your C drive in a Windows Old folder but after days will auto delete that altogether But rather than go back to Win I decided to do the clean install of Windows to fix my HP software bug Before you try a clean install make sure you did register your Windows by logging into a Microsoft Account with your email and password so your account in the cloud knows you are a valid user After you install Windows once over your Windows Microsoft will allow you to do a clean install even though you do not have a Product Key id for Windows You do that by using their Media Creation Tool and choosing to Install On Another PC which lets you copy the OS onto a USB drive or DVD Then you boot nbsp from nbsp the USB and DVD to install You are presented with a listing of your hard drives and partitions on them and choose which partition to install Windows into This installation asks you to supply a product key Using your Windows product key that on the sticker is inside your battery area will not validate Windows But since you previously installed Windows over Windows and registered with Microsoft in your account and checked that your Win status in Control Panel as quot Activated quot you can click SKIP and leave product key blank You are prompted a second time to enter you product key later on also skipped that The PC came up running OK but Windows was not validated as Activated until I signed into Microsoft with my email and password after which my status changed to Activated on the PC Checking Windows Device Manager I noticed that most devices were installed with Microsoft s own drivers not with any Dell drivers since I had wiped them out with a clean install The good news was Microsoft installed by itself the correct drivers for my two video displays an Intel HD Graphics and an nVidia Quadro M and they work fine But in Windows Device Manager I found errors hellip So my process was to create a System Restore Point manually before I tried to resolve each error by installing some driver If my attempt failed I rolled back to the previous restore point so my Windows registry was clean Here are the errors I had Error Unknown Device Due to missing FreeFall Sensor Driver So Installed DRVR WIN R from Dell site Works Next hellip Error PCI Serial Port Installed Intel Management Engine Components Installer Intel Management Engine Components Chipset Driver MPGY WN A EXE From lt http www dell com support home us en product-support s... Day two, things going smoothly with Win 10 on the M6600. 
Got around the lack of an HP Printer Driver by using Google Cloud Print, which let's me install a Google driver in Windows 10 and then print to the cloud, and from there, it communicates via internet to my HP Printer which on my local wireless network, using HP's EPrint which is compatible with Google Cloud Print. (Had to turn on Web Services on the printer and register the printer with HP Eprint.)
My nVidia driver for graphics was installed by Win 10 automatically, but that did not install the nVidia app in control panel, so I downloaded a Windows 10 version of my nVidia driver for my Quadro 3000M display adapter, and that installed fine and is working as expected. Now I have the nVidia program to tweak adjustments.

Before I did a clean Windows 7 install and update to SP1 everything worked fine, so this problem is new.

I'm using VMware Workstation and I can't get the VM to grab my mouse input when I click on the window or press ctrl+g. If I manually add the mouse or keyboard as a device to the VM it works fine but not if I click on the VM window (which is what i really need). This started after I formatted my computer and re-installed Windows 7 with SP1 updates so it might be the SP1 updates which broke it..

I'm running Ubuntu inside Windows 7.

Any ideas?
