Firefox Windows Keep Closing/Disappearing

Q: Firefox Windows Keep Closing/Disappearing

Whats Up Guys.

For some reason, when I'm doing my normal computing activities, my Firefox window closes for no apparent reason.

I realised I had a problem right now when I was listening to a radio station in a window and that disappeared while the stream kept on playing.

Also, not quite sure if this is related or not, but I have a yellow triangle with a exclamation point that comes up in my start up tray from time to time.

Could any of you guys please give me some help as to why my Firefox windows are closing prematurely like this and to why that yellow triangle is coming up like that.

Any help or direction to helpful threads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks As Always.

Preferred Solution: Firefox Windows Keep Closing/Disappearing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

OS? Are you running the latest Firefox? Have you run a virus scan recently?

Also, what does the yellow triangle tell you? (there is usually a pop-up message displayed)

My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

I'm having problems closing Firefox in Windows 7.
It appears that the program is always still running in the background and uses large quantities of CPU usage.
I always have to stop the program in Task Manager or reboot before it will open again.
Does anyone have any suggestions or a possible fix please?

Many thanks in advance

can i ask what version of firefox your running? this was a common issue in 3.5.4 (and 3.5.5 i think....) but the latest version, 3.6 seems to have eliminated it entirely,

Hi,
I have been having problems with Firefox ever since I installed the external IP add on. Every time I open a new page it closes half a second later, I usually have to try about 5x till it finally stays open.
I am running on a PowerBook G3 with Mac Os X 10.4.9 and an eMac G3 also with 10.4.9.
I was wondering if anyone here has had the same problems or if anybody has any solutions I would appreciate them.
I wanted to try to uninstall the addons but I did not know how.

Regards, Icy

A:Firefox Windows closing right after being opened

Hi

Firstly try in Firefox Safe Mode. If it stays stable it's one of your addons.

Have Firefox closed. Go to Utilities (in the Applications folder) and open Terminal, then run:

/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -safe-mode

If you don't encounter the problem there, then close and open in normal mode as usual and in Tools>Addons, uninstall the faulty extension.

If you have more than one, keep disabling one by one and restarting Firefox to find the culprit. Yes, a pain but that's to save you from deleting all of them. If you don't really want them then you can delete all of them and it'll work.

This also applies to themes.

Hi Recently Windows has been hanging a little after closing Firefox and or Windows Live Mail For example if I close Firefox or WM Windows Mail and click on the Start button or anything for that matter Windows will hang maybe seconds before it loads it It didn t used to do this I ve ran anti virus spyware programs Which returned no real threats and Ccleaner I ve defragmented and ran check disk too so my files should be clean and in order for quick access I actually recently had to reinstall Windows XP bit so it s a pretty fresh install As far as I know the drivers and whatnot should be up-to-date too As for the game it s particulary games. a or lag after little Firefox and Windows hangs XP Windows Mail closing only one as I notice lags in a certain way that never had before It s America s Army and every so often I will get this lag that will last for a few seconds and just go away It will make the game real sluggish but only for about or so seconds but gets quite annoying as Windows XP hangs a little after closing Firefox or Windows Mail and lag games. this didn t used to happen before I ve tried system restore to go back to a point where I didn t think it had been doing this but none of the restore points were available for some reason and the one it did let me restore to didn t help I don t notice any processes running that look suspicious or that shouldn t be running I ve also noticed the past few times I boot up and while loading windows my mouse will freeze for just a second which is also not normal I do have my CPU ram and video card over clocked but I know this isn t the reason for my problems since they ve been like that for quite some time and I ve ran Prime for long periods of time without problems I did recently increase my Pagefile size in windows to MB from the default Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing these little hangs after closing Firefox Windows Live Mail and the reoccuring lag in the game Because I have a feeling the two problems are connected in some way Your advice and suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Hijackthis log file Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v Scan saved at PM on Platform Windows XP SP WinNT MSIE Internet Explorer v Boot mode Normal Running processes C WINDOWS System smss exe C WINDOWS system winlogon exe C WINDOWS system services exe C WINDOWS system lsass exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system svchost exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C Program Files APC APC PowerChute Personal Edition mainserv exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgwdsvc exe C Program Files Galleon bin Wrapper exe C Program Files Common Files LightScribe LSSrvc exe C WINDOWS system PnkBstrA exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgrsx exe C WINDOWS system java exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgemc exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files Winamp winampa exe C WINDOWS SOUNDMAN EXE C PROGRA AVG AVG avgtray exe C Program Files Common Files InstallShield UpdateService issch exe C WINDOWS System DLA DLACTRLW EXE C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static MOM exe C Program Files Yahoo Messenger YahooMessenger exe C Program Files ATITool ATITool exe C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static ccc exe C Program Files APC APC PowerChute Personal Edition apcsystray exe C Program Files Winamp winamp exe C Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox exe C Program Files Trend Micro HijackThis HijackThis exe R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Search URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId O - BHO no name - D -C F - efb- B - ECA - no file O - BHO AcroIEHelperStub - DF C-E AD- -A -FA C EBDC - C Program Files Common Files Adobe Acro... A:Windows XP hangs a little after closing Firefox or Windows Mail and lag games.

A little update...

I ran Advance WindowsCare V2 Peronal and let it "clean and fix" everything but I still get the delay/lag after closing almost any program. For instance, I opened up Windows defrag utility, closed it and tried clocking on start and it didn't open for about 3 or 4 seconds. I don't know what's causing this but it will also slow my game mention above down like I have something else using a lot of CPU power or something for a few seconds...and this happens in the game quite often...I'd say it does it at least once every minute.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? It's very annoying and I would hate to have to reinstall Windows since I just literally got everything reinstalled and copied back over when this problem started occurring. If you need any more info or logs, let me know. Thanks.

Since you have an active malware log topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/336674/google-redirects-to-googleadsgdoubleclickcom-and-pleasewaitsearchcom/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.Again, please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.If after being declared all clean by a MRT Member you are still experiencing this problem, please contact a moderator to have this topic re-opened or start a new topic with updated information.

Has anyone ever encountered disappearing bookmarks in Firefox? Some of my bookmarks that I've had for a long time have disappeared. In other words the name still appears on the bookmark list, but the address has disappeared from its properties so that when I click on it nothing happens. When I go to the organize bookmarks screen and try to delete the bookmark it won't delete. What gives?

The last 2 days FF keeps closing after 1-2mins.

I don't even get the crash report now it just closes and upon opening it takes me the restore session.

I have done a fresh install of it deleting all known traces of FF and although better it still closes but now maybe after 7-10 mins.

I'm running Win10 Pro (clean install)

I tried to do a system restore to roll back 3 days but I get an error saying it couldn't complete the restore.

I have done a full system scan with defender that took around 10-12 hours but all came back clear.

I'm using edge for now but really would like to get FF back.

Any ideas most welcome please.

Hi, I'm new here, sorry if this question was asked before.

I've been having trouble using both Firefox and AOL. Firefox gets hijacked sometimes, but the most pain is getting the pop-up window saying it has to close with the "firefox.exe" statement.

Ran searches, only found Firefox issue with firefox.exe-06188867, deleted it several times and more just pop up.

Still yet to find out what is wrong with AOL. It keeps closing and signing me off.

Appreciate the help!

So I always close Firefox by closing the main window and If I've been using it for awhile it'll take a minute or two for it's processes to close in Task Manager Well after a load of slowdown from Windows Automatic Updates then getting everything back up to speed I closed down Firefox for the night So it did the usual thing but then I noticed the RAM usage stop lowering from both it's processes firefox exe and plugin-container exe All of a sudden crashreporter exe pops up and a button for the Crash Reported appears in the Firefox after Crashed Closing? Taskbar However no window for it appeared So I Firefox Crashed after Closing? closed the Crash Reporter in the task bar and then firefox exe and plugin-container exe went back to normal and closed about seconds after that However just to be safe I re-opened Firefox It went completely unresponsive so I had to close it in Task Manager manually Afterward I reopened it and it loaded everything quickly and worked fast like it should After closing that no crash reporter came up This little problem only happened last night The only plugin I had running before was Flash Still what caused it to crash Did it somehow crash when it tried to end it's own processes Was it maybe because of Windows Update eating up a lot of the RAM fifteen minutes earlier Maybe was it a one-time Firefox Crashed after Closing? thing I really don't see why it decided to crash They say that if Firefox processes remain in Task Manager after closing the Firefox windows then it is still running but is unresponsive Whenever it does this they'll close after about a minute Still what even happened I'm using Firefox

Does the same issue happen in Safe Mode?

Are both browser's fully updated?

Are there any other strange issues with the PC?

I have this strange problem. Occasionally (meaning when I'm asleep and my dad wants to use the computer, so he wakes me up) Firefox will not start. I have to go into the CtrlAltDel=> Processes, and sometimes there will be 2-3 and sometimes even 4 instances running. Whats keeping firefox from either not shutting down, or not starting up? Its really starting to bug me, since my father cannot figure out how to shut it down.

A:Firefox not completely closing out

Wow, DD, I have ben using FF for quite awhile now, and nothing like this has occured. My wife no hablar FireFox, so we are switching back and forth from IE to FF all the time.

Pending the comments of experts, I think it may call for a reinstall.

However, I want to clarify that I have FF on my toolbar, and my understanding of shutting down is closing it, as it "click the X".

Hi When I was on my laptop I was surprised to see Firefox was no longer open I'd turned away for a few moments to do something else and I was sure I hadn't closed it but there was no error When closing randomly Firefox I clicked to open it back up it restored my previous tabs I thought it was a bit odd but it's the first and only time it's happened However a few moments ago I was just in the middle of typing something and Firefox just vanished almost in a sort of flash No error messages it wasn't going slow it didn't freeze or crash like I've seen before it just vanished It wouldn't reopen straight away either I should also add that the sites I were on are ones that I Firefox randomly closing go on daily so nothing odd in that sense to make it vanish Seeing as this has happened on both my computers now and I've never seen it vanish in such a way I'm wondering why it has happened Has anyone else had this problem

This started a couple of weeks ago, I think. Whenever I close Firefox, firefox.exe in the processes is still opened and taking up a whole lot of memory. I can't open another Firefox window unless I manually close firefox.exe in the task manager myself. Not sure if it's a trojan or anything.

On another note, my Windows Live Messenger is being wonky and freezing after resuming from hibernate (using a laptop) once in a while. I use task manager to close msnmsgr.exe, and reopen WLM, but again, when signing in, it just freezes.

Any help appreciated.

Mozilla doesn't seem to have a clue what's causing the crashes.
I'm running only one other app which is the newest Flash (from Adobe website).
The faulting module is XUL.DLL.
Attatched a couple of files from Event Viewer.
The "after close" crash is sporatic (maybe once every two or three days).
Anyone have an idea ?

A:Firefox 19.0.2 Crashes Immediately After Closing

Hi bej,

While researching, I came across various instances where 'similar crashes' are reported with 'Mozilla Firefox version 19.0.2'; appears to be a known issue.

You may try the troubleshooting steps listed in this tutorial to see if that helps: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...t-and-get-help

If the issue persists, you may try moving back to install an older version of 'Firefox' to and check results.
Hope this helps.

Now when I try to run Firefox, it closes and I get a balloon saying "Firefox was closed by Data Execution Protection" or something along those lines.

A:malware preventing firefox from closing

I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it detected the file. It said that it deleted it, but it just pops up again in the same directory.
Also, I noticed that this process disguises itself as Firefox all the time, e.g. when Firefox is closed I see "Firefox" running in the processes window, when it's open, there are two "Firefox" there.

Help will be so much appreciated!

This keeps happening to me every now and then, it used to happen with Vista and now with windows 7 so it's not OS related I am thinkg? Problem is sometimes when I close FF and attempt to reopen it I get a prompt stating "Firefox is already running, you need to close the application" or something to that effect. Thing is, I never see where FF is running and even looking at the Task manager, it is not listed in there, I always have to restart my pc to reopen FF, any ideas please?

Actuallly since Firefox 9 I have experienced slowness at closing tabs (and absolutely nothing at all at navigate). The (+) turn dark and do not close inmediately as before. I work every day with Firefox on really interesting matters and believe me that I do not feel any real improvement since 3. A real Firefox improvement would be that the browser opened faster. This pseudo bug seems to be intimately linked with the heart of Firefox screts. Cheers and thanks everybody. (As with respect to the untouchable settings of visited page's colours I am affraid to explore that and destroy my browser since the ominous experience I had with 9).

How do you use your Firefox? your system is not meant to be a power house its supposed to be used for general stuff like word, email, some video's and thats it.

For some reason or another when I close Firefox a thing pops up and it says The instruction at 0x65439789 referenced memory at 0x0000001c. The memory could not be read.

Click OK to terminate the program any help in fixing this error would be helpful

A:Application Error when Closing Firefox

This is likely caused by one of your addons. Try running FF in Safe Mode. If problem goes away, you will have to do some legwork to discover which addon is the problem.

Have you tried running with all add-ons disabled? Look under Help then click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Also how many tabs are you running during a session.

More than once I have accidentally clicked the close button on the top right of my browser window. In the past this was not a problem because I had 'warn when closing multiple tabs' checked (I always have multiple tabs open). Firefox would shoot me a nice little warning and I could click cancel and not lose all my tabs. For some reason FF has stopped giving me a warning message, even though I still have 'warn me when closing multiple tabs' checked. I'm not sure when this started happening, but it has been going on for a while. I am running FF 22.

I have tried (unsucessfully):
*unchecking the checkbox and restarting FF, then checking the box it again and restarting
*starting in safe mode
*clearing cache and restarting
*restarting my computer

Does anyone have some ideas of what else I can try or know how I can get my nice little warning box back?

A:Firefox not warning when closing multiple tabs

Open about:config

Check that "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" and "browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs" are both set to "True".

Welcome to Bleeping Computer, please be sure you have read and followed the Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log, Instructions for receiving help in cleaning your computer http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/All advice given is taken at your own risk.I apologize for the wait, if your issues are not resolved, read the instructions posted above and then follow the directions below. If you no longer need help, I would appreciate a quick post letting me know so I can close your topic.I am not seeing a log in the HJT log, but I do see AVG 7 and my information says that is out of date as of 5/31/2008. If you know something I don, please make me aware.Assuming you are runing the free version of AVG, here is a link to the newest version:http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-an...us-free-editionIf you intend to run the free version, take care not to choose trials, etc. Download, install and update, then run a system scan. Quarantine (virus vault) at least what is found and post the scan results for me to view and we will work from that point. If you are going to run HJT on your Desktop, you need to create a folder to hold the .exe, logs and backups before they get los, right click and create one, call it HJT and it will look lik this:C:\Documents and Settings\Dark\Desktop\HJT\HiJackThis.exeThanks

Hello everyone I'm having the issue noted above BSODs attribute the crash to either one of two files cdd dll most commonly and win k sys only once Screen turns jagged goes black and then BSOD but only when closing of Warcraft, World Chrome BSOD resizing/closing also when occasionally I've had this crashes happen to me only times in a whole week already World of BSOD when resizing/closing World of Warcraft, also when closing Chrome Warcraft crashes were all succesive BSOD when resizing/closing World of Warcraft, also when closing Chrome but after updating Catalyst drivers it never happened again PC was crash-free for or days thought it may have solved the issue and I could stop worrying about faulty hardware components but yesterday night closing Chrome it happened again I turned off Aero desktop after that just in case The problem is I can't find any Memory dump or minidump for those BSODs even though settings are on for that maybe MEMORY DMP is too large I have free Gb out of on my boot drive I changed it to minidumps just in case Oh also it was already set to overwrite so no idea what's going on Could not find them manually nor could SF Diagnostics tools which I just ran My rig is new only about months old and no hardware changes since The only components coming from my older PC are the boot HDD and graphics card The only thing that's happened is or power outages in December but BSODs started only last week If any hardware components are malfunctioning they are luckily under warranty but I need to determine if that's the case Only other strange thing is that when gathering my rig's data for this post Everest shows my Motherboard as quot Unknown quot I'll double check I installed all drivers Thanks in advance btw great tool that SF Diagnostics I'm no computer wizard but it's quite useful even for an amateur like me

A:BSOD when resizing/closing World of Warcraft, also when closing Chrome

Hi Haxiel.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

A:Slow browser, IE closing, Outlook and Yahoo closing

Hi Elise,
thank you. I ended up getting rid of PC Tools Internet Security and switching to AVG Basic Free. I think most of the major problems went away.
Yahoo has stayed up, Outlook has stayed up, browser seems to work quickly, facebook didn't have floating text and pictures anymore, was able to do some posting, sent some large emails. But, and not exactly sure, IE has frozen up, but not as often. The dds program you had me run this morning froze and I had to do a hard shut off, task mgr didn't respond and the weirdest thing of all, the clock stopped. Can't say I have ever seen that. So I am not sure what exactly is going on, if it really is malware or some setting is messed up. I wasn't able to run video on a site last night. Major improvement since I got rid of PC tools, but not quite right. Sorry, nontechie.

Obvious to anyone. You have three malware apps running live at the same time. You have Avast, Kaspersky, and AVG.

You need to remove them all and install Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST.

If you continue to crash even after removing them upload the DMP file as you have old drivers that need updating.

I have a Dell Inspiron with windows xp All disappearing! Windows are starting recently windows have started disappearing the instant i open them and i have no idea whether it s a virus or some type of corrupt All Windows are disappearing! file for example when i All Windows are disappearing! turn on my computer and am asked for my password to my user account the screen on which to type in my password disappears the second i click on it sometimes holding down another button will keep it open just long enough to type my password in the same happens when i click on the quot Start quot menu as well as AIM conversation boxes they also disappear although things like My Documents or Windows Media Player never have problems additionally my computer now makes a VERY loud beeping noise every so often when i turn it on something that never happened until recently virus scans have turned up nothing so i don t know how to fix these problems as Dell is not good with tech support i d really appreciate any help thanks nbsp

A:All Windows are disappearing!

Very loud beeping sound when booting up. I would call Dell tech support and find out what kind of Ram your computer takes and also I would check to see that the Ram boards are securely positioned in the computer. What you are going to ask is What kind of Ram does this computer take and write down the part number from Dell. Since your computer will not operate properly you might have to take it in to a repair shop to have this checked out.

Can you get into safe mode and move around in there without it making things disappear?

So this is a nightmare On Friday I purchased a Seagate TB HDD link and plugged it into my computer It worked for about minutes then completely disappeared from Windows I originally thought it was my PSU since my computer was underpowered with a W PSU I replaced it with a Corsair GS and still had this issue I returned the HDD and got a replacement same model Still wouldn't stay in Windows Today I returned it and got a different Seagate model link and lo-and-behold it still lasts only minutes at max before disappearing from Windows I downloaded SeaTools to see what it said on each of the HDDs First didn't even pass the Short Generic test Second passed HDD Windows disappearing New 7 from the Short Generic but failed the Long Generic Current passed the Short Generic but failed the Long Generic When the HDDs disappear from Windows it cannot be found anywhere until I restart the computer It's gone from Windows Explorer It's gone from Device Manager It's gone from the partition wizard I have used the SATA cables that came with the HDDs so a brand new one each time I have used multiple SATA Gbps ports haven't tried a Gbps port yet This issue is present with both of my PSUs so I don't believe it has something to do with power I've looked on the MOBO and have not found any blown capacitors a friend of mine suggested this I have not done anything with BIOS yet My computer's hardware is as follows Windows Pro bit Intel i - K Ivy GHz processor Intel DZ GAL- K visual BIOS Intel SSD GB C drive Samsung HD LJ GB HDD D drive ST AS New HDD disappearing from Windows 7 GB HDD E New HDD disappearing from Windows 7 drive WDC WD AADS- S B GB HDD F drive System Reserved MB G drive LITE-ON DVDRW LH- ALS I drive Corsair Vengence GB x GB RAM Nvidia GTX ti GB Graphics Card The 'faulty' HDDs are never initialized when I first plug them in I initialize them and partition them to be my H drive I have one Gbps SATA port available but since these HDDs are Gbps I didn't try it I have tried both of my available Gbps ports and both have this issue I believe I have a PCI SATA card if it'd be useful for troubleshooting Something of note I had two BSOD errors when I had the second HDD installed One while playing DmC Devil May Cry and the other overnight so I didn't see when it happened I can post those dump files if people want them I hope that this is something either faulty with Seagate HDDs or where I need to update a driver cuz replacing anything else is gonna be expensive

A:New HDD disappearing from Windows 7

Your Seagate HDDs have, quote:

Quote:
Data Transfer Rate to/from Interface Up to 6 Gbps

What it means is that it is compatible with SATA 6 interface, but will not make the HDD to transfer at SATA 6 rate. Use the SATA 3 ports for HDDs, even SATA 3 max transfer rates are faster than the HDD's capabilities.

Is your SSD on the SATA 6 port, like the HDDs?

Check your BIOS version and update, if it is available.

For some reason my computer is occassionally (maybe once per session) making the Firefox window tab that appears on the start menu bar after you have opened firefox disappear sometimes. If I open another window on top of firefox and then minimize that new window then the Firefox window tab will reappear. But sometimes if I minimize the Firefox window and bring up another window and the firefox tab disappears then I have to go into task manager and "switch to" firefox. What's going on and is there anything I should fix?

I am still using windows XP. Active windows have suddenly started disappearing and are no longer shown on the task bar. This is usually when I click on anything in the window but sometimes of their own accord.
The lost program or window is not shown in Windows Task Manager Applications but elements of the program do appear in Processes. I cannot then open some programs or documents afresh getting the message that the program is already running or the document is open.
Help please.

A:Disappearing windows

You mentioned XP, do you have any Service Packs installed? You should have SP3.
Go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. In the Command Prompt window type a Y for Yes and restart the computer. Check Disk will start at next bootup and it will take a while.
You can also go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing system files.

After running for a while on my system running Windows XP/Professional, the windows on my system start to become transparent. It gets worse and worse until I reboot. After a while when I select Turn Off WIndows to reboot, even the background on the dislog box with the Restart button becomes transparent.

I have reinstalled drivers and even re-installed Windows (without reformatting). You can see the problem by looking at these two photos on my website:

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any suggestions or need additional information.

Thanks,

I have solved my problem!
First go to Control Panel. Open Ease of Access Centre. Then down to Make the mouse easier to use, and open. Then down to Make it easier to switch between windows. Then uncheck the box next to Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.
And Bob's your uncle. Perfect.
I have also learned a huge lesson!
Thanks everyone.

I have an app, which for some reason, had the window disappear. I see the app icon in the taskbar, and when I hover over the icon, I can see what goes on in the window. I have sound coming from the app. I can see it when I do -tab. However, when I click on it, it won't show up. When I select it after doing windows-tab, it won't show up. I think it might have gotten off the screen.

Is there any way to fix this (as in, center the window on the monitor)?

EDIT: I can confirm it's starting off the screen, but I can't tell where.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I use the Windows Mail Program installed on my pc.

Yesterday I installed Windows Live Movie Maker. Upon starting my computer this morning I found my Windows Mail program had disappeared (The icon from my taskbar and also it did not show in my Programs list.)
My first thought was to do a system restore to 2 days ago.
Thanks goodness that worked!

My question is why would it happen?
I am wary about installing anything new now!

Also is there another way to bring it back if it happens again?
Thanks.

but I haven't found any viruses...

When I run SpyBot, it comes up with about 23-25 entries AND I stall when I get to create a restore point. After a lon---g period of time the (not responding)
goes on.

Another problem is that WinRAR opens but closes unexpectedly...

Are these problems possibly related or do I have different issues???

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

My step daughter (11 yo) just called and told me that her paint and ie windows keep disappearing to the right when she tries to open them. I'm not up to speed with W7 yet (still using XP and Vista) so I tried shutting off Aero Snap. This didn't help. the windows minimize to the taskbar, and a right click only brings up the option to close. Tried rebooting and no difference. Can anyone help? A:Windows disappearing to the side...

Hi PortPro, welcome to the Seven forums.

This happens sometimes when Windows tries to open a window in a non-existing second display, for instance when you have had a second display connected which is then disconnected. To fix this is quite simple.

Do this, carefully and exactly as told:Open the application in question, see if it disappears right or left (right in your case, as you told). Do not click anything else as to keep Windows focus on that application window
Press ALT + SPACE to open window context menu. Trust me, it opens although you are not going to see it
Press ENTER to exit full screen mode. You can not move a full screen window using this method so this is important. If window is not in full screen mode, this does nothing else than closes the context menu
Press ALT + SPACE to open window context menu again
Press M to select Move on that menu
Press and hold down LEFT ARROW if the window has disappeared to the right, RIGHT ARROW if the window has disappeared to the left
Release the arrow key when you can see the window on your display, press ENTER
That's it. If you want to, you can practise this with a window that is visible on your display, to see what each of the steps described above does.

Opera 10.01 is working fine here on W7x64...

As it's affecting various programs I would look at whether something on your primary drive is corrupt?!? Try running C:\chkdsk /f at the command prompt and seeing if you get better results after a reboot...

Help please. My dvd rom is disappearing from my computer. It sometimes appears, and sometimes goes away. When it disappears, i cannot find it in the device manager nor it appears in the bios. I tried the registry upper and lower filters but it didn't work. The device works properly, as it opens normally and the cd rotates normally but doesn't appear on the pc. Hello,
I know this has been posted before but I have gone through every topic on this forum in hope for a solution to my problem. I'm listing below my computer's configuration followed by the problem.

MotherBoard: Intel DH67BL
Processor: Intel Core i7 2600k Sandy Bridge 3.40 GHz
RAM: DD3 4GB
HDD 2x 500GB SATA and 1x 160GB SATA.

Now my problem is the second 500GB Drive keeps disappearing. I have taken all sorts of steps to try and solve the problem. First I started by replacing my SATA Cables and even interchanging the ports still no luck. Then I did a clean format and install of Windows 7 which solved the problem but only for a few days then it vanished again. I downloaded a BIOS Update for my motherboard today and updated it but still no result.

Could anyone help me with this please, it's highly annoying and frustrating

My apologies in advance: I was desperate to stop files from disappearing from my laptop, and I ran ComboFix before realizing I was supposed to ask for help first. Sorry if that screws things up.

My stuff is backed up in multiple places, but I noticed a few weeks ago that some of my laptop files started disappearing, seemingly spontaneously. At first, I blamed Cubby (the file syncing software) because that was the app which was notifying me of the deletions. After shutting Cubby down, and restoring my 'lost' files, things seemed OK for a while.

Then I noticed yesterday that a few more files had disappeared.

I've attached the log after running ComboFix. I saved ComboFix to my desktop as "Carbon". It is pretty long - ComboFix took nearly an hour and a half to run.

Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. I would never rely on any backup program but instead keep all of your data in the related User folder, then drag your active User folders to externaly regularly. If you want to automate this then use SyncToy - Backup User Data - Windows 7 Help Forums with the Win7 scheduler which is always reliable and doesn't risk data loss in any way.

Another modern method to backup and at the same time Sync your data to your other devices for free using the cloud is here: Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

As to your data loss, you said you made a Win7 backup image so you can mount that image's .vhd file in Disk Mgmt to extract the needed data using Virtual Hard Disk - Create and Attach VHD.

You can always use the Acronis free WD app which has a perfectly reliable imaging feature: WD Acronis free cloning app

i am running a windows xp pro. no matter what windows theme i run, the icons in my start menu, and desktop seem to show up as that white one that usually means the icon cant show up.. it is not all of the icons. only the basic ones.. in my start menu: Email icon is missing, along with Search, Help and Support, and Run. Also even when i go to my computer and control panel, sometimes those icons dont want to show up. on my desktop , My computer, my documents, and recycle bin never show up. this can be fixed easily by restoring them, but when i reboot, this happens again. Is there any way i can restore the icons to how they were originally? i cannot do a system repair or whatever because i do not have a valid WinXP PRO disc. any help would be appreciated.. plz help it is getting way 2 annoying..

A:Windows XP icons keep disappearing

I've seen this before..in my case it was caused by installing a warez copy of some lame *** game...a reformat (and of course not installing said game again) was required to fix it...

A:Windows Programs Disappearing

Err... what do you mean disappear- from the windows folder? from the programs menu? do they close while running?
and do they ever reappear?- perhaps after a restart?

in any case, run an antivirus and antispyware.

So i'm finally posting my problem to get solved individually D hopefully lol My problem is Help with disappearing windows apps? pretty simple I keep losing calculator mspaint all windows games and I think that's about it maybe a few more minor things here and there but those are the main ones that become irritating Now I know how to get these app's back problem is I want it to stop happening all together I'm ALWAYS running AVG free version and it is ALWAYS updated with latest version amp database I also run Advanced SystemCare PRO not sure if this will help or not but it does have registry cleaner and spyware security problem detectors I'm thinking this happens because of a virus spyware am I correct And if so how do I get rid of it and prevent this kind of stuff from happening again if AVG isn't picking anything up nd quick question Any suggestions on a program that I can use to specify how I wish my pc to be tweaked Like for example a program that can shut down unnecessary services processes etc i'm usually using pc for gaming I can do this manually but there are a few services I would rather be safe having a program tell me it would be ok to shut it down and it won't screw my pc up I know it's not the best idea to have a program give me advice on something I know nothing about but if it's a well trusted program hopefully it won't mess anything up I've use a few programs in the past but i'd like to get an expert opinion D OS WinXP SP If you need anymore info please let me know Thank you for your time

A:Help with disappearing windows apps?

How often are you running the registry cleaner.
That could be the issue with things disappearing.
Generally we recommend never using them as they often cause more trouble than
they solve.

How long has your system been installed?
Sometimes the best thing is a fresh install.
I know that it is a pain but can often solve many things.

When you do a virus scan do you do it at boot time or in safe mode?
Those are the 2 best ways. Some viruses can hide themselves and can only be found
in one of these 2 modes.

A good guide to services that can be terminated and their dependencies
