Preferred Solution: Memory upgrade help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Memory upgrade help!

Now that is detail! The support site for this model states the maximum memory to be:

Up to 2 GB of DDR2 533 MHz memory, upgradeable to
2 GB using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)Click to expand...

Am I reading that correctly, because you stated you had plans to upgrade it to 8GB? Newegg has plenty of options for laptop memory, but I think your motherboard may be limited to something closer to what you have, with room for only slight improvement. If I am in error, someone please correct me.

You also posted this:

Maximum Installable Memory : 2GBClick to expand...

EDIT: In other words, it seems to me that you can only double what you currently have in size, but not in speed. Again, I welcome scrutiny. I think that you may be looking for something more than I am providing here.

I have just bought some new memory, 2 x 1 gig, inserted it and ran the test. I get one error in the Stride38 test. Address expected is different to the one returned.

I know which chip it is, should I send it back, or is this 1 error acceptable for the system?

Thanks for your response

I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

I want to upgrade the memory of one of the pc's in our house. I get low memory alerts often and I can't delete much else to create room. I have never opened up a pc before, and I don't want to screw up and make things worse. The pc in question is a HP Pavilion a1150Y with a Intel Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz). OS is Windows XP SP2. It came with 512MB RAM and I would like to go up 2GB. I went to www.crucial.com, ran the system scan, and it says that this type of memory can go into that pc: "DDRII memory with support for DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 speeds." I don't know what speed I should be installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

L0nestar

P.S.: Don`t think a discussion is necessary, thread could therefore be closed...

According the notebook specification Satellite Pro has two memory slots and can be upgraded up to 1 GB. It is very useful to have your confirmation about RAM upgrade for this old but still good notebook model.

Hi,

I have a Qosmio G30-201, with the following spec:
- Intel? Centrino? Duo Mobile Technology featuring Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor T7400- Genuine Windows? XP Media Center Edition- 400 (200 + 200) GB Hard Disk Drive- 2,048 (1,024+1,024) MB DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)- 17" Toshiba TruBrite? WUXGA TFT display- HD DVD-ROM drive

Running under Vista Ultimate

I would like to upgrade the memory to 4096.

Do I have to buy 4096 of memory, or can I add 2048?

What memory do i buy? Toshiba do not seem to sell MB DDR2 RAM (533 MHz) after 4 years. What other memory would be suitable?

Many thanks,

Best regards

Nick

A:Re: How to upgrade memory on Qosmio G30-201 and where to buy memory

Your notebook can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to use 2 x 2GB module.
Compatible 2 GB module has part number PA3513U-1M2G or Kingston KTT667D2/2G.

Put the part umber in Google and you will find a place where you can order it in your country.

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 laptop from 4GB of physical memory to 8 GB. The Bios immediately recognized the added memory but it appears the Task Manager physical memory has not changed and only recognizes ~3.5 GB of available memory. Is there a way
to have Task Manager recognize the added memory? Is the fact that the Task Manager does not recognize the added memory mean other functions are not recognizing the added memory?

You can go to www.crucial.com and input your Computer type/model or motherboard model to find out how much and what type of memory it uses.

You can download Everest Home Edition to find out your motherboard model if its not a brand name system. It can also tell you what your current RAM is, ie DDR/SDR, and its speed like 66/100/133/200/266/333/400Mhz, and much more.

I recently upgraded my T500 to a SSD and 8 gbtyes ram.  The diagnostics recognize the 8 gbyte upgrade but state only 4 gbytes are usuable.  I thought the machine maximum was 8.  Is there anything else I need to do to make the machine use the memory.

A:Memory Upgrade

The ThinkPad T400 and T500 datasheet states that it can handle up to 8GB of RAM, so it should work unless you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, in which case the maximum RAM that can be addressed by the OS is 4GB regardless of how much RAM you install.       The Windows license key is valid for both 32 and 64-bit, but to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you would have to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Windows Install Media Download Links,https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Hope that helps,

I currently have 512 RDRAM for memory and thought I would uprade it to 1G. This uprade is about $200. Is this a good idea or should I think about investing in a new CPU? If so, any suggestions for a new system or other upgrades for under $650? Thanks to all!

Take Care!

A:Memory upgrade or buy something new ?

I doubt that you will notice any difference with the increased RAM. As far as changing the CPU must likely your motherboard won't support much of an increase. What generally happens with time is a combination of things. Your Windows operating system getting clogged with odds and ends, spyware and similar programs, itmes running in the background using up resources etc.

Often a reformat works best (after doing appropriate backups). However before going to this somewhat drastic step, check to see what is running at startup, run an antiviurus program, run programs like Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Defragmenting your hard disk is often helpful also.

Of course you can't beat a new system for speed!

Hi,
Please can you help me install 4gb of RAM on to my computer?
I have installed win7 64. At the same time I have tried to increase the memory from 2gb to 4gb on my Asrock 939s56-m mobo.
The DOS says 4096 ok
The Bios says 4096
The win7 64 says installed memory 2gb
The memory is new from Crucial. The memory can be moved around in pairs into the new slots, but it only records 2gb.
In MSCONFIG BOOT ADVANCED OPTIONS it records 0 maximum memory or gives the choice of 258. If I uncheck the maximum memory it BSOD's. When in safe mode it sometimes gives the 4096 option in MSCONFIG, but not in standard mode.
The Bios is up-to-date for the cpu and mobo: AMD 64 3700+ (Bios P1.30).
It contains a Radeon X1600/X1650.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I currently have 512MB of RAM & I obviously want to upgrade this to something a bit beefier.
I recently got a bargain (or so I thought ) 1GB stick of PC3200 DDR SDRAM (400mhz) RAM but, surprise, surprise, it doesnt fit. The spec is 184 pin & I believe my system needs 240 pin?
Is this the case?
All thanks in advance.

I have Dell Dimension 8400 and recently replaced 2 x 512 MB cards with 2 x 2GB cards. When I ran the systyem specification program it only shows that I have 3GB

Anybody know why the total 4GB of RAM is not recognized.

A:Memory upgrade

You probably have a 32 bit operating system and that is about the limit that a 32 bit OS will recognize. If you want more RAM recognized, you will need a 64 bit OS.

I wanted to find out whether I should upgrade my current CPU (to a dual core) or the memory or not bother at all?

My current specs are:

AMD 3700+ with AC freezer 64pro (stock)
2gb DDR400 ram (4*512mb stocks)
X1900 CF edition (basically X1900XT)
Asrock 939DualSata 2

I'll be using the rig for gaming mainly.

I had in mind:

CPU - AMD X2 4200 (S939)
RAM: Ballistix 2gb (2*1gb PC4000)

Or shall I save my money instead if they is little performance boost??

Buy it at Crucial, E-bay most likely has poor memory and when Crucial offers you memory for your machine it is going to work. E-bay is a hit and miss and if the memory is bad you will have a hard time returning it and then they will just replace with the same thing.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 (P4 3GHz, 533 FSB, Win XP). The PC came with 1 GB of RAM (4 GB Max capacity). If I upgrade to 2 GB do you think I will see a noticeable improvement in performance? My wife and I use this PC for Internet, Movies on the DVD, and she does some Music downloads. Little-to-no gaming. No Web designing.

My 15 year-old son has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4 2 GHz, 400 FSB, Win XP). His PC came with 256 MB of RAM (1 GB Max capacity). If I upgrade his system to 1 GB, I'm asking the same question as above re: noticeable improvement in performance. He uses his PC for Homework, Internet, Chat , Movies on the DVD, Music downloads. A little gaming but nothing more elaborate than that.

By the way, the home is broadband/wireless. I log on the net at 1.5 - 2 MB, depending on traffic; my son's PC does the same.

Have an issue ATM which I believe will be resolved with a memory upgrade: basically after right clicking to open separate browsers, I am unable to open anymore. Opening the page normally is not a problem, but this isn't always convenient.
Having consulted the crucial site, I can upgrade with DDR PC3200,DDR PC2700,DDR PC4000
What's the difference?
What size would you advise, or does it depend on budget?I'm looking to avoid the above situation but don't want to spend money unnecessarily
Say I bought 1GB for the 2 available slots I have, will it be recognised?
Thanks for any input

What do you need all that ram for?

Ok I want to get some more memory for my computer, but I want to get the highest speed that I can so that it won't become obsolete withing the next year or so. So here's the specs, FSB is 400MHz, CPU is 2.2GHz, and I'm assuming that it takes DDR ram. The sticker on my existing stick says SDRAM; yet it also says DDR 333 (256MB). SO I hope you can simplify this for me, basically I want to know if I can get the the DDR 400 (PC3200), or if I have to stick with the DDR 333 (PC2700). Also, could you give a brief explanation as to how you can find this out, or a website to go to... I've looked and have been somewhat unsuccessful! Thank you very much.

Here is the Service Manual: Your Manual Two SODIMM slots DDR3L-1600 MHz Dual Channel Support Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations: So yes you can install a 2nd 8 gig module to have a total of 16 gigs.  Memory module (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz, shared): 8 GB 693374-005 https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... See p. 72 of the Manual for "how-to". Sorry to say it is a very hard job and takes removal of the motherboard. And it is not supposed to be done by anyone other than an authorized HP technician. If you are out of warranty this is much less of an issue but be careful in there, please. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi, i have 512MB of RAM at the moment (its made by hyundai) my motherboard can support up to 1gb of memory and i have one slot free, i was just wondering if i have to buy memory from the same maker or can i buy the same TYPE of memory (DDR SDRAM same speed ect) but from a different maker like "Kingston"?

do Kingston and hyundai work together in other words or do they have to be the same maker and specs not just the same specs.....?

Thanks.....

They *should* work together, but they don't *always* work together.

Most of my systems have a mis-mash of ram modules and they work ok.

I have just bought a compaq presario c731tu notebook with 2x512 ddr2 667 memory ram sticks and vista o/s. I was told by computer tech I could install 2x2gb ddr2 800 ram so bought and installed. The bios reads the total 4gb but windows failed and screen says start windows normally, safe mode etc.Is the tech wrong or can I download software to correct this Any assitance would be helpful.

A:memory upgrade

The screen that says start windows normally, safe mode etc is caused by an improper shutdown. If you pressed the reset button to reboot the pc, that screen would show too. I don't think it is a problem with the ram.

A:memory upgrade?

Did you get the right type of memory? Are the strips properly seated? Try installing one strip then boot your system then shut down, install the other strip and boot.

Does BIOS see the correct amount of memory? If it does, you are in pretty good shape. Confirm that is what is installed let it boot windows.

Hi,

I have an Acer Travelmate 4150 and I would like to upgrade the memory. I've had a look on the internet and it seems pretty straightforward to insert a new chip with increased memory capacity but I'm unsure what size would be best given the current specifications of my laptop. This laptop is my main computer and I run windows office as well as use the internet etc. I would like to upgrade to windows 7, put on itunes and all my music along with all the other usual applications that you would use for a small business and home use. Can you advise me about the size I can expand the memory to?

Many thanks

A:memory upgrade

According to crucial, that system can use 2gig of memory [1gig in each slot]

Before you install [or attempt to install] win7, you need to check the acer site for support ie drivers. If there are no win7 drivers offered on the site, you are wasting your time.

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module. I have no idea why this will not work. If I re-insert the original module, the computer boots fine. If anyone has any idea at all of why this is happening I would like to know. Thanks

A:Cannot upgrade memory

According to the CRUCIAL site, the Gateway MX3230 laptop has a single slot to upgrade from 256 MB to 1024 MB. The site doesn't advise what type module it uses though.

According to the MEMORYX site, it uses a single DDR2-533 SODIMM module(256 MB, 512 MB, or 1024 MB).

According to the KINGSTON site, it uses a single DDR2-533 SODIMM module.

That pretty much confirms that a DDR2-533 SODIMM module is what it needs. Have you examined the sticker or the writing on the module, just to make sure that you weren't sent the wrong one? It's also possible that the module is defective.

(That's the first time that I've run across a laptop that supports up to 1024 MB of RAM, but has only a single slot and not the usual 2 slots.)

Previously I had 6 GB of RAM. During normal use about 3 - 4 GB is in use. Recently I made a video (about 45 min long) in Adobe Premiere Elements. I've had success with shorter movies but when I go to try to burn this one to disc, either Adobe crashes or I get the BSOD. When I have this video project loaded it takes up about 2 GB one its own leaving me with little to no free memory.

So then I upgraded to 12 GB Ballistix Tactical. I loaded up the Adobe project, and it still gave me the error about having little system memory left. With the project loaded I was using about 6 GB of the 12 GB but Task Manager said I had no physical memory free.

Actually, right now, with Adobe closed I'm using 3.28. Under Physical Memory:

Total 12278
Cached 8066
Free 1721

Why do I have so little free memory after this upgrade? Where is the rest?

The 1st thing you should do is go here; http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

download SIW 1.70 to your desktop. This application will give you lots of info on your machines. This is an executable that does not have to be installed, just download and launch from the desktop. If you don't want to keep and use it, just right click on the icon and delete it.

Personally, I have never heard of an Azza motherboard. See how SIW 1.70 indentifies it.

You can go with each machine to www.crucial.com and run their online scanner and it will tell you what RAM you use. They should have just about any memory you need.

My friend wants me to come over and increase the memory on his 32 bit machine. He has one 2 GB stick DDR-2 5300 right now. I know they say you get the best performance with a matched pair of memory. If the stick I put in is 2 GB DDR-2 5300, but not an exact match as far as brand to what he has already installed, will there be lesser performance compared to if I put in two exact matched sticks of ram?

Thanks

A:Memory upgrade

Hello Vince,

DDR2 memory can run in dual channel mode for faster performance if the two sticks are the same size and type. It doesn't matter if they are the same brand or not, but it is best for them to be identical.

If they are not the same size and type, then the RAM will only run in slower single channel mode.

There's probably a very easy answer to this . I have a Dell 3100 with 512mb RAM. What's on invoice for memory 'MOD,DIMM,512,2X256,400,1R,NECC~512MB (2X256MB) Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz Memory'. I plan on upgrading to at least double. As there appear to be bloody loads of different specs for memory I need to know what is or isn't compatible. I have had a look at the memory on sale on the Dell site but there's very little info regarding spec. Could buy direct as could then be certain it would work but can obviously get better deals elsewhere.

I had over 100 windows open in Photoshop Elements and my memory meter maxed out at 100% but after upgrading to and Athlon Phenom quad with 3.0 mhz from an Athlon 2.8mhz (630 to 945) the # of windows maxed out at 54 windows open and 26% showing on the memory meter before the box popped up saying "out of memory". I am running 8 gigs of memory, what gives here.

A:Less memory now after upgrade

2 Problems. If you upgraded you should have done a clean install

If upgraded get rid of windows.old

Windows.old Folder - Delete

If this does not solve the problem and you did an upgrade, consider doing a clean install. It is best by far.

Hi there,
I have an ASUS A7V600-X mainboard, and I want to upgrade the memory because I use the computer for video editing occasionally and 512MB RAM is not enough!!!
I just wanted to see if anyone could tell me if this board will support 2GB RAM or will I have any problems upgrading it etc.
Here is the link to the RAM I want to buy off eBay
Thanks in advance

A:Memory Upgrade

That board has 3 Dimm slots and each can be up to 1gig. So it will handle 3 gigs of memory.

See specs::

note: I'm blocked from ebay here so I can't verify the memory you listed in your ebay link. Here is a site that is also selling memory for that board:

Hi Guys,
I am looking at upgrading my ram. I am looking at a total of 4 gb and either 1333, 1600, 1800 or 2000mhz. Here is my current Pc specs...

Antec 900 case
Gigabyte s775 GA-EP45T-UD3LR core 2 motherboard
Intel s775 core 2 Quad core Q9400
Kingston 2gb ddr3 1333 1 stick
Antec 1000watt Psu
Geforce 8800 Video Card
Win xp Pro
2x sata hd

I can add another stick 2gb of 1333 ram for $29, but can I go faster? Would it be worth the extra cash for some more speed? Will I cause any bottle necks with faster Ram for my system?

Also the Kingston and Corsair Ram from the Pc Net store where I get my parts from has different model numbers from the Official list that Gigabyte has for my motherboard...is that a problem?

Also I'm guessing my motherboard only supports dual channel and not tripple channel memory?

Cheers

Uly

I received two 4 gb memoy chips and they would not work.  Verifed that they were seen by the system but system would not boot.   Removed and tried just one,  same issue.  Put back the two 2gb and it worked.   It seems unlikely that both are bad.   This unit should recognize and work with 8gb or with one 4gb chip, as it is a 64bit using intel i3 and is running win10 and doing pretty well with 4gb but had the opportunity to upgrade and did not expect this issue.     Replacement chips were from a list including the G72 and ar 4gb ddr3 pc3-10600 sodimm/1333mhz  which matches the 2gb in use.

A:upgrade memory from 4 gb to 8 gb

Update on this issue.   It is not resolved but I decided to try the memory in another HP using an AMD processor that was older and a little slower but it accepted the memory and is working fine in that unit.   Interesting is that unit is NOT listed as being able to accept the additonal memory.    The issue is clearly with that individual unit and it appears that others have had a similar event.   So it apparently is isolated to this version of the G72.

 Hello and Welcom to TechSpot

Just a couple of Q's first to try to get a better understand of the problem...

The Compaq uses PC100 ram, and not PC133 or PC66?

You didn't do anything else inside the machine when you installed the new memory? All the memory chips securely fastened in their slots?
How much memory do you now have in total?

What OS are you using? And what are the rest of your specs?

Does the system boot with only the original ram in it?
If yes, does it boot with only the new memory installed?
Can you try to switch the sticks around (try to have one stick in the first slot and one in the last)?

It might not have anything to do with the problem, but it doesn't hurt to test...

Oh, and you should've bought Compaq specific memory!

now I'm sure your board supports more than 64mb, but just to make sure, what does it support up to? Are the modules made by the same manufacturer? It is usually hard to get two different ones to work together perfectly. Also, how many slots are there? Sometimes if there are an even number you have to mirror them to work properly, but I haven't tried to run them un-mirrored so I am not sure what problems can arise from that.

After installing the new ram the pc( win 7 64 bit) takes 4 mins to boot up. When i try to see the installed memory it doesnt display any information. When i swap the sticks and install them on their own the laptop works fine. Ihave tried it on both slots and slots seem to be fine with each ram stick on its own. Its only when i try using them together to get max of 8 gb my laptop stops responding. Can someone help me with this issue

A:Cant upgrade my memory

Hi matrixxxx, welcome back!

Could be two things:

1.) How does the new stick you bought compare to the original?
Is the new one DDR3 SDRAM; DDR3-1066/PC3-8500?
I couldn't find your 5735, this is the 5744; see memory list: TM5744-6467 | Product Model

2.) They both work individually, but not together so that would make me think they are somehow incompatible.

EDIT:

Looked around, and I found some ambiguity.

Crucial, Kingston, and Memory.com say the 5735 can only handle 4GB max, but Best Buy says 8.

I ordered an 8G module from Dell but when I install it along with the original 4G the computer won't boot. The Yellow light on the Power switch flashes.
After I removed the 4G module it boots successfully.
Is there a memory module compatibility issue or a quantity issue here?

My assumption is that you either have a bad memory slot, or the stick that you're using to upgrade is faulty itself.Try your original 128 MB stick in both slots.Try booting the machine with the 512 MB DIMM only. Let us know what happens.BTW, A30/p doesn't differentiate between high/low density sticks.Good luck.

I'm trying to convince my dad (computer novice) that in spite of what people have told him, deleting files from the hard drive will not make the computer "faster." I tell him that he needs more memory(RAM) but quotes his friends saying that you need to free up space (memory) to keep the computer from acting slow. The miscommunication stems from the interchangeable meanings of the word "memory." He argues that by deleting movies from the HardDrive, the computer will work faster. So I need your support in proving to him that he should buy some more RAM modules.

OK,More Mem will make a bit of Difference but not as much as U think.Depending on what U do 512MBs is the Min these days....Make sure U have the fastest Mem your MB will support.

But before U shell out on more Mem try these:

1) Do all Adware/Spyware/Anti Virus Scans

2) Go to Start/Programs/Assessories/System Tools/Disc Cleanup.Put a tick in EVERY box and click OK.

3) Go to Start/Run and type in msconfig
Click on the Start Up tab and Uncheck the boxes that U do not need in Start up.Do not uncheck your Anti Virus.

4) Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Setting and uncheck all boxes except Show Windows Contents while Dragging
Use Common Tasks in Folders

4)Defrag your Drives

This will help!!

Cheers...Sherry

I bought a SDRAM 512MB PC100 DIMM.The mother board is ASUS P3V133 with a maximum bus speed of 133Mhz and total RAM capacity of 1.5 GB. I had configured it for PC100 by jumper setting. When I put two 128MB it recognises 256 total. But when I put 512 it sees it as only 256.This happens whether alone or in combination with one or two 128.The three slot changes didn't make a difference. The only difference is 512 has 8 chips on each side while the 128 has 8 chips on one side only. The computer works fine in any of these combinations, but the RAM totals only 512 when using 512+128+128 instead of 768.Please explain. My mother board manual says it will take 512 with chips on both sides. There is nothing to change for RAM in the BIOS.It confifures RAM by SPD(Serial Presence Detect)Thanks,TV.

Hi all, newbie here with memory prob.
I bought a new machine from pcspecialist last year and now want to upgrade memory ( playing all sims 2 expansion packs ) I'm not sure what the memory is as i cannot access my original order...think its ddr2 ?
Anyways i tried to find a site that scans my memory for me and it says its maxed out at 2 512 sticks.....
My mobo is an Intel pentium 4 3.20ghz and I have 2 memory slots.
If this question sounds daft i am sorry....lol I'm not very good at this.
