Can one set up a proxy server to accelerate web browsing?

Q: Can one set up a proxy server to accelerate web browsing?

I'm curious if there is any open source proxy-server-like software out there that I can use to accelerate web surfing. Amazon's Silk browser/platform for the Kindle, and Opera Mini do this for mobile clients; I'm mostly thinking about setting this up for laptop / desktop clients, so I'm not so interested in having a server render a webpage.

My setup is this: I have a few clients (my computers), on a high-latency internet connection. I have access to a relatively private server, which has an extremely fast internet connection.

Would setting up a proxy server on the server [machine] actually help connection speeds? I imagine things like Silk and Opera Mini compress data (don't send the same thing twice), and reduce the # of HTTP requests (for images, etc.). Would something like squid actually have the same effect? It seems to be targeted at the slow-website-server scenario.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Internet connection on a fresh Windows 7 desktop is unstable. Downloads will start, accelerate and stop - working or stopping from anywhere between a second to a minute.

The desktop is part of a home network with other Windows 7 devices, which all work normally. LAN connection between desktop and rest of home network seems stable (100MB file transfers without noticeable problem).

A:Internet in Spurts. (Start, Accelerate, Stop. Start, Accelerate...)

I would start by replacing the network driver with a newer version.

You can do this by going to the device manager in control panel then network adaptors and right clicking on the adaptor and update driver from there but it's sometimes best to go to the machines manufacture website and see if a newer driver is there.

Windows update might also have something that will help.

If that doesn't work please post your ipconfig/all here and we can take a look.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

My company wants to install a Proxy Server and A firewall and A IIS Server? I don't think we need that much protection. I think a Proxy and IIS is enough. Any Ideas on this subject.

A:Do I really need a Proxy server, firewall and an IIS server?

IIS is not for security. IIS is Internet Info Server. This is used as a web\ftp server. Proxy and a firewall would be good for security.

My access to Wizards 101, a MMORPG, is being blocked by the firewall at the local library. I tried to get a proxy server, even though I know nothing about them, but that is blocked too.

Right now, the Library is my only web access, but I have wireless access 24/7 as I live right across the street from it.

Does anyone know of any work around that will get me around that firewall?

Hey there,

I am using Windowns XP, and I have discovered I have a proxy server, and I don't ever recall asking to have a proxy server, I have a single computer at home, no network. So the proxy server must be web-based, I sort of know what it is. But it's been interfering with trying to set up Mozilla (which I've given up on). I'd like to know how I disconnect the proxy server, or where the controls are.

open a browser, click on "tools/internet options" then the connections tab . look for "lan setting" near the bottom, and un-check the box that says "use a proxie server". that should do it for you. Leave the box checked ( or make sure it's checked) to "automatically detect settings"

I hope this will help you. Please let us know

Hi guys we always had a satellite connection and a static ip address We were also running a winroute firewall on a seperate xp system and mail and everything was working great then we got a dsl connection and everything was setup and worked great barring the winroute firewall mail could be sent but not received i was told that this was due to the fact that the dsl modem was proxy in? a does where fit server now doing nat and authentication for the dsl connection and winroute didnt know how where does a proxy server fit in? to deal with this So i disabled the winroute firewall and plugged in a sonic wall tz firewall and configured it everything is working fine I want to setup the winroute firewall as a proxy server as i like the reporting functionality it has regarding site visits data usage etc my question is Does the winroute box connect straight into the switch like a normal client or does a cable go from the sonic wall to ext interface of the winroute box and then another cable from int interface to the lan switch cause its just a proxy that you configure the browser to look for does it matter where its actually sitting on the network its hard to find information on things like this where is a good place to find info on setting up custom solutions like this any info appreciated nbsp

How to configure MS Proxy server to not allow every netwok user to access the internet.

A:NT4 proxy server

You can create a group called "Internet users" or something like that in User Manager for Domains. Add the users you want to allow to have internet access.
On your proxy server, in Internet Service Manager, click on the Winsock Proxy, go to the Permissions tab. In the Enable access control list, you need to add the internet group that you have created and remove any other people.
Any person who is trying that access the internet will have a box pop up asking for a password but it won't allow them in.

Have a look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, it may also be able to help you.

Whenever I switch off win 8 and restart ie every day I have to reset the option Internet Options - connections - lan settings - proxy server - and clear the tick box. I have tried everything apart from reinstalling windows !!! can you believe. This has got to be a win 8 problem and has to have a solution - has anyone found it yet ??? Its driving me mad . It is not a virus , it is not a startup program , its not anything I can find Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm seeking information on how to go about setting up a proxy server. Currently we deny internet access by machine. That works well if the employee at the machine has no legit reason to be on the internet but it doesn't help with employees that do need the internet just not all of it. Basically i'm interested in setting up something that can block by website. The router has this feature but only for four sites (really cheap router for now). Thanks for your assistance.

A:How to set up a proxy server

You simply install some proxy software on a machine and set up a firewall rule on the router that allows traffic only from the proxy machine. Configure all the clients to use the proxy.

Unless you have a fast connection and lots of clients, any old crap PC should be able to do the job.

Squid+Linux would be the most popular and logical choice, but there are other operating system and proxy suites that work just as well.

I don't know what happened but today when I tried to enter IE I received this message:

The proxy server isn't responding

Check your proxy settings. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click "LAN settings".Make sure your firewall settings aren't blocking your web access.Ask your system administrator for help.

If I go to LAN and remove the block with a check beside the proxy sever IE starts, however, if I log off and try to reenter the proxy server box has a check mark.
How can I fix this
Thanks

A:Proxy Server

If you do not use a proxy server it should not be checked so you may have just fixed your own problem. How did it get checked? Who knows? For comparison, I do not require a proxy:

if properly configured by the ISP, a proxy server can speed things up by not having to reload web pages, images etc for frequently accessed sites

here's some google links for netzero's proxy use:
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=netzero+proxy+server&meta=
the first 2 from netzero's help area

if downloading a program, it may want to bypass the proxy server so you get the latest version instead of a cached version

Hey guys,
just wondering how would you go about setting up a proxy server that users have to log in to, to monitor usage and cache common websites.
I have an old machine that I'd like to use for the job, just wondering how I would set it up.
Cheers

I am running one pc with xp sp3 ie6 and another with vista sp1 ie7 and am having the same problem described below with both:

I want the "use a proxy server for your lan" unticked. I will untick it and then I am able to connect to the internet. My problem is something keeps ticking this checkbox and I can't determine what. It generally always happens at re-boot but will also happen just by refreshing or going to a different page. Not consistent but happens constantly and is about to drive me nuts.

Any solution/suggestion would be most appreciated.

Thanks...

A:use a proxy server for your lan

You may have some malware "re-activating" it. Try a tool to "clean out" your networking protocols and set to default called WinsockXPFix:

Hi, I am working on an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop, running Vista home premium. I am network connected but all of the browsers, Chrome and IE, are searching for a proxy server resulting in no internet. When I try to uncheck the proxy server box in both of the browser settings it is grayed out. I have run regedit and proxy enable is set to 0, can not find a group Policy edit function, have run spyware removal, and rootkit removal, tried sys restore point but it will not complete operation. This machine is about to drive me crazy, any ideas? Thanks, LM

A:proxy server?

You are saying that some internet connectivity is present but not a few sites?
Do you have 1 antivirus program and at least two good, recommended anti-spyware programs that you run regularly?
Might want to start with basic security measures and possibly get some help in that arena,

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

Sometimes system restore will correct the problem, but without measures it is almost sure to return.

I'm looking for an application on Windows (preferred, or Linux if necessary) that would allow me to proxy a URL through it. HTTPS/SSL is a must.

For instance, if I'm not home, I'd like to have something running where I can run loop a URL link through my home cable securely and have it use that firewall. I would of course have to present it as a public facing application from my home firewall, hence the reason I want it secure and password protected.

So instead of it showing my current circuit's IP address of wherever I am, it would show me from home. I could always VPN into home, but was looking for something more interactive I could do from anywhere and from any PC.

eg.
I want [H]ard|Forum

What exactly is it and how do I get rid of it.

Hey, i'm new to this proxy server thing, and recently learned that you can share an internet connection across the internet. I am at a boarding school, and they have almost everything blocked except for MSN hah, and a kid there had set up a proxy at his house, and connects to the unblocked internet from there. he didn't tell me much of how to do it, but only that it can be very dangerous. How do you do this thing??? Thank you very much in advance!!!

Hello Racoonslayer I am sure you are a nice person, but it would be against the rules for you to be able to bypass the rules your school has placed on internet access & that would make us & you not so nice of people. I am a old guy by your standards but even at my age we have to live with rules to. Some of them I don't mind so bad but others really get under my skin, but we still get by and find something else to do.

Sorry...

Hello.
I am a newbie. My question is about the proxy server.
1- When you use a proxy to the browser. Do that change the router settings. Or is the only browser.
2- Do use a proxy change IP
3- Do that change the internal IP FOR computer or only change IP that can obtain from a software that detect IP for pc

A:proxy server

Hi, zf490. I'll do my best to answer your questions, but you can read this for all the boring details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server1. I'm fairly certain you can only have proxy options for a browser, not a router...but I haven't looked at my router's settings in a while, and I don't have access to it right now, so I'm not sure on this one.2. Yes, using a proxy changes your IP address.3. I understand the question, but I'm not positive of the answer, as I do not have experience with proxies.Basically, the premise of a proxy is this: you want to change your IP address for some reason (usually due to restrictions of your country of residence). Using a proxy reroutes your connection to all websites through the proxy server you chose to use. This makes your IP address appear to come from the location of the proxy server instead of your actual location. Think about it like tracing a phone call. If you put up some sort of filter/firewall, you can give the call tracer a false location (I assume this is possible, I don't really know...it just seemed like a good analogy).A good example is this: I wanted to watch a certain video, but the website would not allow me to because I don't live in Canada (wasn't my location). If I had used a proxy that routed through Canada, I would have been able to watch the video. But I didn't care enough to go to that trouble. If you want to experiment with proxies, I have no recommendations, as I have never used one myself. Just be careful if you have to install software, sign up on websites, etc...You can use http://www.ipchicken.com/ to see how your IP address changes when you start messing with stuff.I hope that answered your questions.

I am currently studying in Germany and am living in student housing. You have normal internet connectivity unless you use download over 10 GB of stuff, they then shut off your internet. You can still use the internet using a proxy server provided here but I still cannot connect to Skype or anything else besides Firefox. Is there anything I can do? If it helps I have an early 2008 MacBook.
Thanks!

In most cases you can configure your applications to use the proxy as well. You will have to find out what the Proxy IP address and Port is to input to the settings. Example: IP->192.168.1.1:3128<-Port You may have to ask your Technical Support people for that information.

For Skype:

SKYPE-->Tools-->Options--.Connections-->Automatic Proxy Detection-->(change)-->Save

I hope this helps.

We have recently updated our environment to IE The machines in question use a point of sale application that loads immediately after reboot every night so it server Proxy does not load explorer At this point IE works fine and Proxy server loads the allowed web sites and the proxy server is there in IE under LAN connections When the application is terminated and explorer executed it applies its personalized settings for web platform customization And the proxy server is missing from IE LAN connections you can add it manually and it works fine afterwards But not an ideal solution in a big environment like ours The proxy server is still in the registry but not applied to IE settingsAll these machines are in a workgroup and not part of a domain not an option I removed the active set up component for the web platform customization made no differenceRe ran the reg edit file with the proxy server no joy Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this issue There have been updates in relation to the IE update And is there a way to force IE to look at the registry for its proxy server Or even better stop what is causing the removal of the proxy server from IE in the first place

I am attempting to setup a Windows 2k3 Server with ISA Services for web content filteration.

However, this is the first time working with anything dealing with proxy services. I think I am a little confused on the concept of a "proxy" service. I know its main goal is to block protocol content...mainly for web dealings and whatnot. However, Where is the proxy server supposed to sit on the network?

We only want to use this proxy server for 1 PC. The pc has 2 nic cards, but I do not know whether or not this PC has to be synched up with ADS, plugged into a switch in the network, and also plugged into our firewall?!??!

If anyone could give me some information or link me to some, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I need help with proxy server settings, I can get on the internet with firefox and I can download with my bittorrent downloader, but IE and Chrome both tell me they can't connect to proxy server, I wouldn't mind this so much but firefox eats up so much memory that it seriously bogs down my admittedly already very slow old computer. Firefox frequently show a usage of 150,000 to 250,000 and has been as high as 400,000k on my task manager,  I don't remember ever seeing IE or Chrome using that much menory,
I tried going to internet options / connections /Lan settings and unchecking the box for 'use a proxy server' I also downloaded Minitoolbox and ran it to reset IE proxy settings, I still can't get on with IE or Chrome.   Does anybody have any other suggestions how I can fix this issue?

I am trying to browse the internet with my computer but it's saying I need a proxy server. I am so frustrated with it right now, any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Do you have Firefox with "TorButton" installed ? If so, the proxy server refusing connections message happens when Vidalia isn't running. If you aren't trying to browse anonymously, click off the TorButton in the lower right hand corner of the browser window.

Try another browser. Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1126271-time-upgrade.html

Yesterday I installed a new Brother printer on my computer and the proxy server started again.

I went back to my last post and saw that Roguekiller was used first to address this issue. I downloaded it and tried to run it three times and when I do a blue screen comes up and shuts my computer down. I don't want to keep trying that and am not sure how to proceed to eliminate the proxy server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Proxy Server

The proxy is being set and enables by a program called e-Rewards Notify that you had installed at the time and I assume you still have it or it came in again with the latest download. I understand it's some sort of notification software for surveys/opinions. If you didn't install it intentionally then uninstall it and the proxy issue should be sorted.

That's your problem. Unless you have a public hotspot near you the wifi signal would be from someone's private router. They are well within their rights to put a proxy server on it to restrict access.

Much as I can live without Incredimail and it's alleged Spyware it's bloated E Mails and it's inefficiencies even after the company has been repeatedly informed that they are lacking in the most basic of Message Rules my wife and kids love it In case you don't know the Message Rules do not allow you to check if the E Mail is addressed to you and if it is not then to leave it on the server so I constantly get E Mails forwarded to Outlook Express from my kids that are for me but they 'accidentally' downloaded quot a few days ago quot yeah and proxy I I think !!! server a need the rest Oh I should point out that this happens when I think I need a proxy server !!! you have multiple E Mail addresses under a single useried i e MrX ouraddress com MrY ouraddress com amp MrZ ouraddress com Incredimail cannot differentiate between these and will download them all if somebody presses the Send amp Receive button An obvious and presumably easy upgrade of their Message Rules would be the most obvious and easiest way around this I've asked them numerous times but they certainly haven't taken my advice on board as there has been a recent new release with no changes to Message Rules So eventually to my workaround does anybody know of any decent cheap free software that will sit between my PC and the E Mail programs and perform a similar service to Outlook Express's rules I have found a few programs that perport to act as servers but they are very complicated to set up amp I'm still not sure that they'll do what I want they'll certainly do a hell of a lot more than I want that's for sure Basically I suppose I am looking for a piece of Software that will when the Incredimail Send amp Receive button is pressed will filter what is on the server Any help greatly appreciated

A:I think I need a proxy server !!!

Read this post I stumbled across on IncrediMail, I think you should consider a less invasive email service! If this doesn't give you pause for thought, you need to read it again.:no:

6) IncrediMail Problems (Part One)

Hi Fred, I'm a network administrator for a large Reservation in Minnesota. One of my users asked me if it would be all right to install a new E-mail client package called Incredimail, I checked out the http://www.incredimail.com website and noticed stellar recommendations from Cnet, ZDnet, and Tucows so I downloaded the demo to check it out. What I found in the user agreement for the software was pretty unbelievable, obviously the people who recommended this software didn't read it. The agreement itself is extremely long... but the attached excerpt from the agreement almost knocked me out of my chair:

"10. UNSOLICITED MATERIALS
Any confidential, secret or proprietary information or other material submitted or sent to IncrediMail, including without limitation via any Message sent by You through the Service, Site, or IncrediMail's physical mail and e-mail addresses, or in any other way, will be deemed to be not confidential or secret. By submitting or sending information or other material to IncrediMail or by posting information on any portion of the Service you (a) Warrant that you have all rights of any kind to the material and that to the best of your knowledge no other party has any rights to the material; and (b) Grant IncrediMail an unrestricted, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, perform, modify, transmit and distribute the material, and you further agree that IncrediMail is free to use any ideas, know-how, concepts or techniques you send us or post on the Service for any purpose, without any compensation to you or any other person."

I'm not a reactionary person by nature but the implication of that paragraph for the average user is staggering. I always tell my users to read every agreement carefully but of course many don't, this agreement is especially long and loaded with legalspeak to further guarantee that the average person won't read it all. People are ultimately responsible for their own actions but I believe that this particular company goes way too far in misleading people about their ultimate goal and someone needs to shine a light on them and make people aware of what's really going on, at least then they can make an informed choice about using the service. I'm a subscriber to several technical newsletters and I'm writing to all of them. Thank you for your time, love your newsletter. --- Ed McPhail

Some of that language is similar to that used by other mail services and ISPs to get around copyright issues that can innocently arise when proprietary information is sent through a third party--- for example, it's not uncommon for an ISP to want to ensure they're not violating a copyright if they merely store a copy of your mail on their servers while it's being processed.

But I can't think of any innocent reason for the phrasing that states "... IncrediMail is free to use any ideas, know-how, concepts or techniques you... post on the Service for any purpose, without any compensation to you or any other person." Maybe there is a perfectly inoffensive reason for including that, but it eludes me.

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me please?

I'm using a high speed cable modem and Internet Explorer under XP. About a year ago, I learned how to use a Proxy Server. I just upgraded my cable to "high speed" and want to use a proxy server for increased privacy and security.

Using Internet Explorer, I went to the Tools Menu, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. Then checked the Proxy Server box and entered a proxy adress of: http://proxy and port of 8080.

Should I check the Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses box? Does that make any difference?

Can anyone please advise me what is likely going wrong? When I try to connect, I get one of those: "Cannot find server or DNS address" errors. I'd like to use a proxy server. What am I doing wrong?

Recently Windows updated both my partner's and my laptop with 23 updates for Vista. Ever since those updates over the weekend my partner keeps on getting a proxy server window appear on his desktop asking for a password.

We have Virgin wireless broadband and changed over from 3 Broadband. I told my partner to uninstall 3 Broadband, which he has done but it still comes up with this window. We have gone into all the Internet connection windows and unticked any option for a proxy server and it still comes.

Is there anything we can do that we haven't tried yet?

A:Proxy server

Ok, this question is quite old, so I'm going to take a stab at it!

I'm assuming that since you have Virgin wireless and going from 3 broadband that you are in the UK. I have zero experience with anything in the UK as b/c I'm in the US. Nevertheless, I'm going to try and assist you the best I can.

I'd say uninstall all Virgin wireless & 3 Broadband software that is on the computer. IF the virgin wireless connection is a regular wireless router in your home, then just simply connect to the wifi network is shows when you use the built in wifi software for windows, enter the wireless password & you should be good to go. IF the virgin wireless connection is a USB adapter, then reinstall the software accordingly, run the program and it should connect. As for this proxy window popping up, I'm really not sure why it's doing that, is it a windows proxy window or a window from the virgin wireless software?! either way, take a screenshot & post back.

Also post back specs on the system in question, info on the type of wireless connection you have from virgin wireless (USB, PCMCIA, wifi hotspot device, etc.).

Hope this helps, take care!

How can I get the system to completely boot without further intervention when I turn it on?

A:Accelerate boot process

I'm not sure what icons you are seeing. You can go to control panel, add/remove user accounts and disable the 'guest' account and you can click start, type power options and select change the power options listing, go to advanced power options and set it to hot require a password on wake up and see if that helps.

Hi,
I got a virus on my company. It is so far effecting internet browsers.

Whenever I go onto IE or Chrome when I click on something it will open in another window full of junk adv-

serve.bannersdontwork.com and others.

I have check if any programs been installed and nothing as far as i can see.

Used Malwarebytes(premium) ,  hitmanpro 3, ads cleaner, Ccleaner and others and each time it comes back with
 Proxy server 127.0.0.1:9880

Tried to let the programmes fix it and it will just keep changing back to Use Proxy Server for LAN in the internet settings.

Also tried to reset the browsers settings and even going into deleting the Proxy server 127.0.0.1:9880 manually in reg. (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings) etcetc but it will just refresh and come straight back...

I really don't know what to do.. anyone can help would really be appreciated.

Have a laptop with Windows 8.1. Prior infections have configured http & https network connections to use a proxy server @127.0.0.1:50742. Going into advanced settings and changing the options doesn't work BECAUSE THE 'SAVE' BUTTON REMAINS GRAYED OUT. I have come to this from several different directions and in every instance I can see and change the settings, the option to save my changes has been effectively removed.

The system has already been cleaned so there is no proxy server monitoring the connection and internet access fails, thus nifty doodads like Hitman Pro won't work.

Ideas anyone?

afternoon all,

i have recently put a lot of effort in to setting up a media server. i'm getting a big issue with windows being stupid and trying to use my proxy server on local addresses even though i told it not to.

this is infuriating because it overloads my proxy server and interferes with the steaming from my media box. if i disable the proxy settings in windows it streams fine. but then i'm obviously not using my caching for the interwebs.

there must be a simple fix that i'm overlooking but i just cant find the solution

many thanks

This question is not at all about proxy configuration. It is about proxy authentication. In my college, we use the campus LAN network, where the first thing which opens after opening the browser (which should actually open) is ironport authentication from
the proxy server where I have to enter my user id and password.
The problem is that Internet explorer tries to connect to the proxy server after some redirections but doesn't prompt for authentication, leading to error. I have to start firefox for the same as it gives no problem, still want to use IE 11.
The page which should open is some https connection to ironport but rather asks to fix connection errors.

Any help will be appreciated.

Somehow by uninstalling things (in and out of safe mode) I am now able to run programs again. IE comes up, but does not connect anymore. Error message is: "could not connect to proxy server". Have also installed Opera and Firefox, with same results...they open, but do not connect.

The icon that indicates internet connection and strength says the internet connection is "excellent" with my wireless server.

Unfortunately I did not list the things I un-installed. How can I restore? I am able to download using another computer and transfer with flashdrive.

If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 5 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. If I don't reply within 24 hours please PM me!Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.Step 1Please run a FRST scan. This will help us diagnose your problem. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.(If you are not sure which version (32-/64-bit) applies to your system, download and try to start both of them as just the right one will run.)Start FRST with administator privileges.Make sure the option Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button. When finished, FRST will produce two logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool was run from. Please copy and paste these logs in your next reply.

A:Proxy Server Problems

Try using the make a new connection wizard in XP.

It is part of SP2.

Click "start", "settings", "network or dialup connections", "make a new connection"

Whan the wizard starts, tick "accept incoming connections"

That should do it.

Let us know.

Firstly, what do you mean when you say MBAM won't run? Does it give an error at all?

Boot into Safe Mode and run MBAM and see if it works there. Also run your Avast scan in Safe Mode.

Hi there's been a problem my computer updated itself to Windows 8.1 and after that I haven't been able to use the internet it says unable to connect to proxy server and then when I check the trouble shoot it say it is configured but it cannot connect please help it I would be grateful

A:Problem with proxy server

Look in Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN Settings button at bottom. There usually should be only the first item about Automatically detect... checked, if anything below has checkmarks could be you have been infected. However, some services do use proxy settings but I don't see that in my area.

My daughter has a Yoga 2 Pro running Windows 8.1.  Recently, her wifi stopped working.  Suspecting a virus, I ran the already installed and running Windows Defender, and downloaded and ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  Windows Defender did not find anything but Malwarebytes did, which I quarantined.  Even so, I am still unable to turn off the manual proxy server.

Does this sound like a virus?

A:Proxy Server Keeps Turning Itself On

Hello, the malware may have changed this..

Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.
Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.
Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit.
Now check if the internet is working again.

Hey, recently my tiles like the Windows 8 Store, Kindle Reader and Xbox One Smartglass won't connect to the internet. I did some research and found that it was because the "Use a proxy server for LAN" keeps checking itself. Once I un-check this they work, but not long after that box automatically checks itself again. Can anyone help me with this please?

A:Use a proxy server for LAN keeps checking itself

See if the following applies to you:

Do you have something called e-Rewards Notify in your list of programs?

I made an ebook and i was told to upload them to as many p2p/torrent sites as possible but to use a valid proxy when submitting them.
Can someone tell me why would this be important?
How can i go about setting a free on up that is secure?
Could there be any problems with using one?
And is there a way of using a proxy and then turning it off when not uploading ebooks or does it stay on forever after you have used it?

Sorry if this questions seem dumb but im a newbie to this world.

Thanks for trying to help.

A:Proxy server question

Well, let's see. You're uploading to torrent sites and you want to remain anonymous. Sure sounds to me like you're uploading something that you really shouldn't be uploading!

I'm going to close this one, we're not going to assist with this activity.
