Preferred Solution: Automatic exe's

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Microsoft IExpress will do that.
However, sending .exe files to non-tech people is exactly what cyber criminals would do.You should make it very clear to these people what it is.
You should also warn them that clicking on .exe files in an email is normally a very bad thing to do.

Automatic Data Collection and Dashboard /Date Inputs are automatic. Metrics are predicated on the percent complete per month..

It is hard to explain, but the data accumulates hourly, daily, weekly, monthly quarterly, Simi annually and annually.

Some areas do not meet the % required for the month others do the dashboard should show that.

The dashboard should show each month the % complete and if it is on target.

Please see spreadsheet example, I can manage the most conditional formatting; I just need help to automate the process.
Thanks,

Hi all Does setting Windows Updates to quot notify for download and notify for install quot via GP edit also Driver? include automatic automatic Device Updates Win disabling Does disable Device Driver automatic installation Or does disabling automatic device driver installation need to be configured separately If the latter separate setting is Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver? it advisable to do so despite the ominous warning from M that quot your device may not work as expected quot I followed Brink's characteristically excellent tutorial for GP edit here Windows Update Automatic Updates - Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver? A:Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver?

Hello MM,

That will stop drivers from automatically being installed in Windows Update, but won't stop drivers from being available in Windows Update.

If you don't want drivers to be available in Windows Update, then you can disable this using the tutorial below. If disabled, you'll have to manually update (download and install) your drivers from the manufacturer.

Driver Updates in Windows Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 10driver-updates-windows-update-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html

The first tutorial below you posted will turn on/off automatic installation of drivers for devices. However, I would recommend to also disable automatic updates in the second tutorial below to be safe.

I was in the middle of something important tonight before I passed out on the couch. I woke up and my computer restarted without saving

A:Automatic Updates & Stopping Automatic Restarts

Just go into the Windows update control panel and turn off Automatic updates then set it so you control when the updates are installed which gives you the reboot option instead of doing it for you.

I'm a system admin full of users that don't bother to install the windows patches and updates. Well I've setup the desktops to automatically check, download, and install the updates.

Does this only check at the time specified?

Does it only download critical updates? windows updates? drivers?

Does it prompt the user when it's downloading and installing? Does it force them to restart their machines?

A:windows automatic updates isn't so automatic

If you're talking about Auto Updates in XP, then you can specify an exact time for the updater to check and download and install the updates. RIGHT click My Computer/Auto Update Tab. Otherwise, depending on the internet connection, update looks only once a day I believe. ONLY critical updates are brought down, you must visit the site for driver and other updates.

Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

Sorry if this has been asked before; I couldn't find any help through the search function, & Google led me to a bunch of other forums that only let me see the supposed answer if I created an account with them.

Yesterday I upgraded to XP service pack 2 (about time, I know). Now, whenever I leave the computer for awhile, I am automatically logged off. I read somewhere that doing a right-click on the desktop, then properties > screen saver would lead me to a box I can uncheck. Thing is, I don't have a screen saver enabled, so the box is already unchecked. I also tried Power Options in the Control Panel, and nothing is set to sleep or shut down or hibernate or anything.

This wouldn't be such a big deal, if I didn't have thousands of songs that needed syncing to an iPod, which takes hours!

Help?

A:Automatic Log on :(

You can do so through the registry but there is another way with a small Microsoft tweaking utility called TweakUI
Download and install TweakUI from here. You can find it on the right side in the list. Don't get the "Itanium-based" one, get the one above it.
After its installed, launch it from "Powertoys For Windows XP" from the start menu.
Find "Logon" in the list, press the plus symbol to expand it and highlight "Autologon"
Uncheck the box that says "Logon automatically at system startup" and then click the "Apply" button. Reboot if needed.

Hope this helps.

Recently and now more frequently there has been un-usual automatic logg off on every users pc in our domain. The users pc gets

logged off and goes back to the login window where it says " the administrator has logged in and only an administrator can login"

Then the user can login back again and is asked with a confirmation window if you would like to loggin again and end the

administrators session. The login is successfull and maybe after 15 minutes or so the system logs off again and the cycle repeats

as long as the user wants to log in again.

This has infected the whole domain users. So far, i've cleaned the pc with all possible scanners and has cleaned the pc but has

not resolved this issue.

What can i do to save the domain ? i will post the pics latter when i encounter the same again.

A:Can't Get Automatic Ip.

Before we can pinpoint your problem here are some questions that I have.

Have reloaded the router?

Sometimes these things can locked up sometimes...just reload it by unplugging it for 30 seconds or so.

Also what is between the router and the computer? (Do you have a switch or other device?)

Do you have any other computers in your network that connect to the same router? wired or wireless Do they work?

Is the computer that is having issues wired or wireless?

Have you restarted the PC? (If not try restarting it and see if the network comes back)

A:Automatic On

Ok, I had to check to make sure i remembered it. In the BIOS of the computer is an Auto-On Feature. Enabling this will allow for a time to be set up. Depending on your PC, teh way to get into the BIOS differs. DELL PCs usually use F1 or F2, believe the standard is the DEL button. When your PC boots, it'll usually give you the BIOS or "setup" option. I can't really tell you where the Auto-on option is in the BIOS, it differs where it is on each PC.

As for Auto off... I don't really know of any... i''ll see if I can find one for ya.

When I get to the blue login screen before I had this problem it would just say Welcome and load the desktop. Now, when I get there, there is just the button you press on your username to go to the desktop. When I press on it, it says Loading Settings, etc. and then it says Log Off. It didn't even get to the desktop yet, just instantly says Log Off after Loading Settings. I tried starting in Safe Mode but it still does the same if I try to login with Administrator.

Trying to help a friend fix his computer after discovering that it has the RPC shutdown thing where the message comes up on the screen and counts down before a shutdown. We applied the appropriate patches and updates but now it seems to be shutting down without giving us the notification box. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes before a shutdown, sometimes 15. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks

A:automatic shutdown

The patches and updates only prevent further infection. You need to run a cleaner on the machine. Symantec has a cleaner for MSBlaster and welchia, if one of those is the cause. Try

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.welchia.worm.html

or

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.html

Hope you stay on long enough to download. Or download to another PC and copy to floppy (I believe that each will fit on a floppy).

Hey there everyone,
I just got a new werstern digital 1TB external hard drive. I am going to set up automatic back-up, but i would also like to use this for other things. If i am fixing a computer, for example, and i need to back-up a ton of there files (lets just say over 100GB), will i still be able to do this if i have the device set up to automatically back up my files? And will it affect my files.

I am new to this area of technology and want the TRUE experts, meaning everyone here, to let me know if i can or not.

Thanks,
Ben

A:Automatic back-up?

Yep, you can store files and stuff to your backup drive.

Unlike Time Machine (for Mac), Windows Backup does not "claim" the partition for itself. It is willing to share the space. It simply stores a folder on the drive.

Hi guys

I am wondering is there a way to have an automatic boot process run?

Example: I work and get home at around 5:30-6:00 PM, I would like my PC to boot at 5:00 PM.

If there is a way to do it great, if there isnt, no great loss.

Thanks

A:Automatic Boot?

Hi iroro,

You may enable the 'Auto-Start at a specific time' feature in your system only if it is supported by the computer 'BIOS'.

To explore that possibility, you may use the following steps:
- Boot up your computer and enter the BIOS setup (Access to BIOS is different with different computers; Del or F2 key is generally used)
- Navigate to 'Power Options' > If your 'computer's BIOS' supports it, there should be a function for automatically starting up your computer at a certain time of day (Sometimes called 'Resume by Alarm') > Enable that setting and 'set the time' you want your computer to start every day > Save and Exit the 'BIOS' > The computer should start following that schedule

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Running XP Home
AMD Duron 1.2GHz

Having lots of time on my hand (due to being home sick) I was watching my computer (when I have a fever, watching paint dry is fun). One thing I kept noticing was that my hard drive led lit up for a few minutes every 20-30 minutes. I thought maybe something was running in the background, so I opened the Task Manager and waited. I noticed that Windows XP was automaticly running defrag. Has anyone else seen this, and do you know how to shut it off? I have not loaded new software, so I can only assume it was an automatic "update". I then tried XP SP1 to see if that helped, but it was still the same. I had a look for outlook 2000 patches but could not see any that covered what I am seeing.

I have just tries the repair function on the Office 2000 installation disc. Any other ideas.

You really should not turn off automatic updates, its keeps your computer protected.

If you have SP2 installed:
You can do this however, simply clic:
start
control panel
security center
You will see a title "Manage Security Settings For" and under it will be "Automatic updates" link, click that link
Choose any one of ther three buttons under "automatically update" and click apply.

If you turn them off, be sure to check periodically for updates by going to the windows update website.

A:Automatic Back Up

You could always set up a RAID 1 array. This will make a full copy of your hard drive onto a second hard drive, bit for bit in real time. Your motherboard may support this, or if not you can get an expansion card that will.

Hello and Welocme to TSF

Sorry for the ignorance but I am assuming these are online games? (Not a gamer)
It sounds like you may have some type of spyware/malware that may be trying to "phone" home so to speak.

Since you ran Spybot S&D, Adaware SE I wont ask you to use those but you might want to scan for viruses with one of these free on-line scanners.

Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

And when you play you disable everything? Anti-virus? Firewall? Anything that might update on a schedule?

Lets see if one of those online scanners find anything. If not we will look elsewhere.

was the auto update from WinUpdate?

and you can turn off certain updates by going to the winupdate site here
go there and you can opt for certain updates to be hidden the sites FAQ says:

Quote:

What happens if I select "Hide this update"?
Windows Update will no longer ask you to review or install that update. However, if you hide a high priority update, you might be reminded that you?re missing an update that is critical to the security of your computer.

If I hide an update, how do I get it back later?
On the Windows Update Web site, click Restore hidden updates, and then review and install the updates that you want.

Hello,

After countless hours searching online and into the depths of Vista, I've nearly given up. I cannot figure out how to disable the occurrence of Windows Vista Beta 2 automatically locking the computer after 10 minutes of inactivity. I've completely disabled any sleep features, and the option "require password after recovery from sleep", and nothing seems to do it.

In the process I've basically disabled every security feature present in this new OS, just out of shear desperation. I display presentations that may not have keyboard / mouse input for two hours, but the monitor is still being viewed. I do not want the automatic log-out to occur at all.

I hope I've just overlooked some very simple adjustment, because I really love Vista otherwise, despite its current kinks.

Sincerely,

William C

P.S. A big fat thanks to anyone in advance who can answer my question.

A:Automatic restore

A few settings, however, can only be adjusted by manually editing the values stored in the registry - specifically, in this key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\
CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

Normally, System Restore automatically creates restore points every 24 hours. To adjust this interval, change the value RPGlobalInterval from its default setting of 86,400 seconds (24 hours). Cut this figure in half, to 43,200, if you want to save restore points twice a day; triple it, to 259,200, if you want restore points created every three days

I live in a rural area, down a dirt road, in the woods. That being said, you can assume that I don't have broadband; I'm stuck with Satellite Internet (HughesNet, specifically). Because of my ISP's "Fair Access Policy", my bandwidth is very limited; if I go over a certain amount of data transfer, my speed is throttled down to less than dail-up. The only time I am not subject to the F.A.P. is between the hours of 3 to 6 am. I have tried numerous times to make Windows Automatic Update work within this time frame, but today (for about the tenth time) I caught it running around 5 o'clock this evening. On a friends computer I notice that in the task bar it shows that automatic updates is off, on clicking the pop up screen, it will not switch on but refers me to go to the control panel and switch it on there. This I have done, after restart the same red icon in the task bar to say automatic updates are off. I did remember to click apply in the control panel, which shows automatic updates as on. Never come across this before, can someone shed some light please?

Can you try to check the service found in the Windows Services?
Click on start > run > type in services.msc then look for automatic updates.
Make sure the service status is started and the startup type is automatic.

Hi I have maintenence automatic a HP laptop running windows as of automatic maintenence yesterday automatic maintenance is saying its being delayed I never had a problem before As a matter of fact I still have it set at am never changed anything I'm not a tech person at all There's been times when I wouldn't turn the computer on for a week and it would still run its maintenance at the next time I turned the computer on I've tried several different trouble shooting attempts here from changing the time for the maintenance to running it by just clicking on run now I did a manual update on the windows defender and checked for new updates in windows update But I do have to mention that several weeks ago I encountered a malware so I downloaded a trail version of malware bytes and when it expired I uninstalled it Fast forward to today I just notice as of yesterday my automatic maintenance is being delayed Is it possible that when I uninstalled malware bytes it took a piece of my automatic maintenance software or what ever you wish to call it I'm not good at computer trouble shooting I'm not a very technical person at all but I would appreciate any and all suggestions If I may request please when explaining this to me just make it as easy as possible Thank - you ever so much Bailey PS What exactly is the automatic maintenance doing anyways can t I just shut it off and run my own disk clean up and defrag if needed I can leave automatic updates turned on so why do I need automatic maintenance

A:automatic maintenence

Hello Bailey,

Automatic Maintenance could have been delayed for a number of reasons. The usual reason is another program or task running, or heavy user activity.

You can manually start it anytime you like though. The tutorial below can help show you how to, and give you more details on what Automatic Maintenance is and does.

Have a bit of a dilemna, basically I want to set up XP so it logins at a certain time as a scheduled task.

The problem I am having is I use remote desktop quite a bit to use this machine and everytime I close the remote session the machine displays the welcome screen (it is still logged in) but the welcome screen appears. I need for the machine to log back in to the desktop at a certain time in order to complete some automated tasks.

So is there a way of remote desktop not displaying the welcome screen when closed? or is there an option where I can set up a scheduled task or something similar so it logs back in at a certain time?

Thanks,

A:Automatic Shutdown

Hello cleergs, I had a similar problem to this. One was fixed by cleaning out the lap. Dirt inside causes heat . heat causes failure. Get a can of compressed air. Blow it down thru the keys over the fans. Then thru the fans and again from the top.The other fix was to update drivers.Next I would test the ram.

Just had a few simple questions concerning "Automatic Maintenance."

I have this set, and it is set to run daily at 3:00am. Sometimes, (on days off) I start this maintenance before the scheduled time. Anyways, here are my questions.

1. What does the maintenance actually do?

2. Is it supposed to download, and install windows updates? (I thought it was supposed to, but I just finished running it, and manually did these things. Not sure if maintenance would have done it.

3. How long is this process supposed to usually take? Right now, my computer has hardly anything on it, and is only three days old, can't be optimizing that much stuff.

Thanks for the answers guys, I greatly appreciate your answers.

Im the only one that uses my pc, so is it possible to have window automatically log me in at startup?

A:Automatic Login?

If you have XP Home, set your lone account to no password and change the login requirement in Users in the control panel, but there is a very valid reason not to do that.

Not that you must use passwords when you are the sole user, but you need two accounts - one administrator and one limited.

An account with administrator rights should never be used for surfing the internet as any malware that may be accidentally or inadvertently downloaded while using an account with administrator rights will then have the unlimited rights of that account to infect your computer.

It enables malware to change settings, run all programs, install or infect all software and access all data including passwords and financial records.

Setting up and using limited user accounts in Windows XP will keep some spyware at bay because XP's limited user accounts do not have permission to
install new software or do anything else that a limited account cannot do.

You need to use the latest HJT 1.99.1
go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self extracter. double click on the file and it will self extract to C:\program files\hijackthis.
Go to that folder then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Hi Called computer tech support person for what I thought was small issue of page disappearing from screen when I'm on I E and having to regoogle the page to continue researching or whatever After hitting I believe the window tab to go back to a prior page Tech said it could be a Automatic No -- Can Updates MS Do!?? malware issue I told him I have Norton Automatic MS Updates -- No Can Do!?? but he said that doesn't necessarily correct all malware issues He is convinced that I have a security issue on my -month-old computer because through testing he found that I haven't been getting any Windows updates regardless of the fact that the computer was programmed for automatic updates Now he says I should back up all of my files and let him do an operating re-install because it looks like my neighborhood computer tech may have copied a bad file over from my old system or who knows something more devious though he thought that was reaching I told him that the tech asked for my password and I balked at giving it to him until he told me he'd just have to keep having me log in several times He also in the course of conversation told me that he knew several people who had had their online bank accounts drained I thought this was strange given the fact that I don't know anyone that this has happened to I don't know what to think But it seems that re-installing the operating system is a major undertaking because it's like getting a new computer all over again Does any of this make sense The new tech also set up a temporary new user account to rule out that my original user account had been corrupted Help

This isn't an issue I had with Vista, but it certainly is with Windows 7.

Every time my computer starts, I've got to manually go to my Wireless connection listing and connect it. Not only do I have to do that, I have to enter the security key.

Is there some way I can just make it so this is all done automatically, and it starts (completely) without me having to do anything?

A:No automatic connection?

Sounds like a driver problem. What kind of wireless adapter do you have installed. Go to manufacturer's web site and see if you can download a different driver than the one you have.

With Windows 7, is it possible to set up a task in Task Scheduler that will automatically connect my computer to an Ad Hoc when it does not have an typical network connection?

I have searched on the internet and on this forum and I could not find anything that dealt with this issue, but rather told me how to automatically connect to an Ad Hoc upon logging onto my computer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance

A:Automatic Ad hoc connection

It's possible but not particularly simple. You'd have to write some script or code to periodically poll the connection status of those other "typical" connections, and to initiate the ad hoc link if and only if nothing else is available.

(The more elegant and more complex solution would be to register your component for notification when a "net down" event occurs, so that you can invoke the ad hoc hook-up.)

If this is not possible, is there a way to have my password remembered so that all I have to do is click on the icon instead?

Cheers,

C h r e d g e.

I am the only user on my XP Pro SP3 system. I am also the Administrator.

Each time I reboot my system, I have to go into TweakUI > Logon > Autologon and enable "Log on automatically at system startup."

Is there some other fix for this problem?

Everytime I start my computer, I get a message telling me that Windows Automatic Update is not running. When I go to Control Panel and select Automatic Updates it shows that it is turned on. If I click on the little red shield in the task bar and click on turn on automatic updates I get a message telling me that Security Center cannot change the settings.

Can anyone shed any light on what the problem might be??

Thanks

Carl

I am running Win2K Pro on 5 machines. Two of them were upgraded from Win 9x. The other two are new and came preloaded with Win2K Pro. I have installed both Corel Word Perfect 10 and Office XP on all the machines. When I try and save as in either program, and direct it to a floppy the machine reboots. I can save to HD and copy and paste. I can't find anything about this on Microsofts web site.

Let me start by saying my laptops a toshiba satellite.

Ok, yesterday, I wanted to extend my windows 8 partition because I needed more space. I have windows 7 as my primary partition with the most space so I wanted to shrink it and extend the windows 8 partition. I found out I couldn't with disk manager so I installed a 3rd party progrAm to do it. While it was doing it, I had to go so I turned off my computer while it was in its operation. Now, I can't get in because it would keep saying attempting repairs on the boot screen.

I don't have another computer but I can access one but I hope there is a solution that won't take another computer to be done. My windows 8 cd isn't with me right now so I can't use that. Also, I'm not good in computers so try to keep it simple lol.

A:Automatic repair

Best advice I can give is stay away from my computer, please!

lol.

Do not turn off computers in the middle of operations like resizing disks - it's asking for trouble.

If you have your windows 7 DVD, boot up from that and let it attempt startup repairs, several times, until your system works again, or completely fails to work, then go further and try to do in place install repair, which should get windows 7 going again. Don't try to install or repair from Windows 8 yet. It will only complicate things.

I can run skype and msn and all that stuff, but none of the browsers (FF, IE, Chrome, etc.).

When I check my TCP/IP v4 settings, the tab "use manual DNS server" with an IP adress in. Every time I click "automatic DNS" the problem is solved. But after a day or so, he switched back to the manual. I tried my own network and the one of my company, and each time there is another IP adres in the DNS (the same for each network, at home for example 1.1.1.1 and at work always 1.1.1.2).

I already tried to reset my TCP/IP settings, I also remove the manual ip adres before selecting "automatic adress" but it keeps comming back.

Any idea on how I can lock my laptop on "choose automatic DNS server" ?
