[SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 1525 - Screen goes black after POST screen?

Q: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 1525 - Screen goes black after POST screen?

Hi,

I've been working on a dell inspiron 1525 today and cant figure what is causing this problem.

The laptop boots, displays the post screen, and then the screen goes black.
You can boot into BIOS,
You can boot into the Boot menu.

You cannot boot into safe mode, the f8 key does nothing,
when using the boot menu, u can't boot into a windows disc to reload the operating system, it just goes black.
I did however manage to boot into a linux cd i have and run a HDD test (what passed) and a memory test (what also passed).

It does exactly the same on an external monitor aswell so I am lost with this one.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with vista preinstalled. I went to power it up today, only to find it has a completely black screen. *No cursor. I have searched forum after forum with similiar issues, but none the same, and i have tried the quick fixes people have recommended to no avail. I power it up, Everything works power light on, i can hear the hd, but screen is completely black. I plugged it into an external monitor, and that is blank as well... Is this a backlight issue? Its not dim, it is black. nothing at all. I tried removing the battery, holding power, and putting it back in, nothing. I inserted vista repair disc... black screen. Regardless of if i am able to fix this issue, i absolutely need the files i have on this laptop.

Hi and welcome to TSF if you can get no output to the external monitor that points to the graphics,if the graphics where ok then you should get some thing on the external screen but before we give up you might need try the Fn and Fkeys ie F6 and see if it switches to the external

Hi,

I lost my tool bar's off Internet explorer to to rectify this I thought I should do a restore to about a month and a half ago when the laptop was running fine. Now when I turn it on I'm getting a black screen with curser but no way of logging in etc. The cd rom is working so I popped the windows vista reinstallation disc in but have no way of making it run. No keys seam to be working apart from the on/off. Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Black screen dell inspiron 1525 after restore

There could be many reasons for your issue, but maybe the system restore didn't complete successfully...
1.) Did you turn off your antivirus software prior to starting the restore?)

2.) Did you actually need to do a system restore to get the toolbar back on Internet Explorer?

3.) Have you tried using Startup Repair? (link below)

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop. Its a few years old. Recently the screen has started fading to black after a few minutes of use. I can hook up an external monitor and it works fine. In fact when I plugged in the video cable from the external monitor (even though the external monitor had no power cord and wasn't turned on) the laptop screen popped back up for a couple of minutes and then went black again. There is still a very faint image on the screen but you can only see it if you shine a light directly on it.

I've read that this could be a problem with the invertor or the backlight. I guess the inverter is cheap and relatively easy to replace but the backlight is neither of those.

Would anyone know by these symptoms what the issue is?

Thanks for your hellp,

Matt

Hi All,

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Home Premium just before two months (Sept 2008) and facing a problem of Black Screen only mouse is active since last three days I just asked Technical support guy to help me out the same but he asks for charge though I have three years warranty even for Physical damage (complete cover).

I have tried to diagnose it and found the following error…

Error Code 0F00:137B
Msg: DVDW_4-Disk is missing/blank, insert data disk (Examle:RCD)
The given Error code and message can be used by Dell Technology Support to help diagnose the problem.
I don’t want to reinstall the OS as I have some important Data on C Drive.

A:Windows Starts then black screen with Cursor Inspiron 1525 Dell

will the new CD drive work without the drivers being installed on either hard drive? Thanks for your help.TammieHi Tammie and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.A CD drive or DVD drive is usually manufactured as a plug and play device, therefore there are no drivers required for it to work with a system. The plug and play technology is built right into the motherboard, that is where it begins. So a CD or DVD drive can be booted to regardless of whether there is even a hard drive installed, as long as the disk in the drive is burned as a boot disk.So a basic answer is, no you do not need drivers.Hope that answers your question and you are much welcomed for my reply.Bruce.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I have it connected to a samsung lcd tv through the hdmi port to watch movies. Yesterday I connected the hdmi lead but the tv didn't detect a signal. So I tried a system reboot. The screen on the laptop lights up as in you can see the back light working but thats the limit to it. The laptop sounds like it is loading fine. dvd drive running hard drive working lights flashing etc. Anyone with any clues as to what the problem could be, and a possible solution would be very much appreciated.

A:Dell inspiron 1525 screen not working HELP!!

Tony, so the problem is your laptop is turned on, but the laptop screen isn't displaying an image?

Disconnect the HDMI cable, first. Look across your top row of keys on the keyboard. Tap the key with an icon on it that looks like a computer screen, then wait a second and see if your screen lights up It may be the F8 key, not sure. On some models you have to hold down the Fn key while you tap the F8 key. That toggles your LCD screen on and off.

Hey everybody,

Im going crazy cause my computer will not make it past the initial dell startup screen with the two options of pressing F2 or F12. After it loads that page it simply goes to a blank screen with a flashing underscore ( _ )

I would be extremely grateful if anyone can find me a solution to this problem. Ive tried both F2 and F12 and changed just about every setting i could think of including the order of process to boot. I ran diagnostics and nothing worked. I removed the battery and ran off of a/c power and still nothing. I also unplugged everything from the usb ports.

Some info about my computer: dell inspiron 1525 running on windows vista

Sounds like you are experiencing hard drive failure, or hard drive corruption. I just repaired a computer with the exactly same issue, and realized that the partition tables on the drive was corrupted. Then after further diagnosis, realized that the partition tables were corrupted due to the drive physically failing.

Do you have a Dell partition for the hard drive utility?
---

Starting Dell Diagnostics From Your Hard Drive

The Dell Diagnostics is located on a hidden
diagnostic utility partition on your hard drive.
NOTE: If your computer cannot display a
screen image, see “Contacting Dell” on
page 50.
1. Ensure that the computer is connected to an
electrical outlet that is known to be working
properly.
2. Turn on (or restart) your computer.
3. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12>
immediately. Select Diagnostics from the
boot menu and press <Enter>.
NOTE: If you wait too long and the operating
system logo appears, continue to wait until
you see the Microsoft® Windows® desktop;
then, shut down your computer and try again.
NOTE: If you see a message stating that no
diagnostics utility partition has been found,
run the Dell Diagnostics from the Drivers

Hey!

My Dell Inspiron 1100 is over 6 years old at this point, quite the dinosaur. However, I still have a bit of old data I would love to remove before it really bites the dust.

When I boot up the machine, usually the display is clear and bright. However, after no more than a minute the screen goes black and only a faint outline of the desktop remains. What is the problem and what do I need to do to solve it?

Thanks!

Hi

backlights or invertor board is failing (failed).

If there is an external monitor socket on it use a monitor to see the screen and then you can backup your data.

My friend's Dell 1525 PP29L (running XP) laptop is getting error code "0326 LCD unable to turn Lamp ON/OFF."

The laptop boots using an external monitor and, absent the very dim display, runs fine. A bit of research compels me to the conclusion that replacing the inverter and backlight will fix the problem, but I have a concern.

It appears that many screens on this model are going out. Assuming there's an engineering issue with this screen, is there any way I could verify whether or not Dell has resolved it? Has anyone else had this issue? If so, were you able to resolve it? How so?

Thanks in advance,

Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .

A:Dell Inspiron 15 black screen

Hi AND EH,
What is the exact system model? Does the system power on and stay on or does it go off automatically? Do you see any leds come on and stay on when you press the power button?
Try using a flash light and check if any dim display in visible.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
While running the lcd test and the diags - swivel the lcd back and forth and see if the display comes on.
Also, try the onboard diags - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check if any beeps are heard. This will help isolate the source of the issue.
Connect an external monitor and check if the display is seen.

Hi....this is my first post on here so please be gentle........

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m which I have been using for just over 2 years with virtually no problems....but about a week ago I was on a plane playing solitaire and my screen showed a few green, blue, and red squares and then went black. It sounded like it was still running, though. I turned it off and tried again a few minutes later, and it was still black but sometimes if I moved the screen back and forth I would get a brief view of my desktop. I hooked it up to an external monitor, and everything is working fine. I have spoken with several places, and I get different answers every time so I was hoping to gain some insight via this forum. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, thanks so much for your time!!

Hi,

I don`t know what answers you have received so far,

but here is mine ;

- the standby switch near the hinges is stuck/dirty or a cable connection is not making..

Or

- the power inverter (suppliies the backlight) is dying.

Both are user fixable tasks, but you may want to have someone look at it.

See HERE and HERE There are other guides,if those don`t suffice

Inspiron - - Windows that is roughly a year and a half old out of warranty Last night while using it a bunch of error messages popped up looked a lot like the kind of pop-ups associated with malware viruses I ve seen in Dell Inspiron - Black Screen of Death - Help! the past and before I could read them my computer shut down Upon restarting my computer it Dell Inspiron - Black Screen of Death - Help! went to the Dell splash screen and then went to a blank black screen backlit I ve tried a number of things that I ve read about on other forums to no avail I tried pulling the battery holding the power button for Dell Inspiron - Black Screen of Death - Help! - seconds and then restarting - nothing I tried starting in safe mode but pressing F doesn t work The only buttons that seem to work are F and F I ran the Pre-boot System Assessment quot and everything passes normally I took the bottom cover off and pulled both my HDD and RAm and reinstalled them to make sure they were seated correctly - nothing I plugged in another monitor to see if it was just the screen and the other monitor showed the same black screen What is my next move Any suggestions would be helpful As I have a lot of files on my laptop that I would hate to lose I plan on hooking up the HDD from my laptop to my desktop If I have the HDD from my laptop hooked up in this way would it be prudent to run a scan of the drive to see if there is something I can repair Due to recent flooding all the discs that came with my Dell were lost So I don t have those Any advice would be helpful

Hi all
Initially launching windows result in error message ,"NTLDR is missing" as The recovery repair feature couldn't help, we opted for more radical solution nd rebuilt the bootloader using the prompt command from scratch. Now when rebooting screen start loading nd then go blank with cursor..when I press the Dell media command "MD PARTITION MISSING" comes up...
I m trying to avoid reinstalling vista nd loosing my personal files so any advice to help reboot my laptop or somehow safeguard my files would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome
Reading your post indicates that your primary concern is your files. Back them up with Ubuntu. If you cannot install Ubuntu it probably means that you have hardware problems. The only way to safeguard your stuff would be to remove the Hard Drive and put in another computer.

Welcome! On my inspiron 1521, when the power is on only a black screen (do not even get to the BIOS), the fan is operating but none of the signaling LED lamps do not light up. I've tried removing the WLAN Card, CMOS battery, RAM. Unless you remove both RAM, flash me right and medium-sized LED flashlight, while left off. Please advise what could be wrong?P.S. This occurred after I did pasword recovery in the User Account, then I could do some work with the admin account, and since then it happens.

Best regards,

just a few hours ago, a small pot of water spilled directly to my old-ish laptop, and it shut down instantly. I unscrewed the bottom and propped up a fan next to the exposed inside, and now the computer turns on again!
However, the screen does not. Whenever I turn it back off, it does so instantly. The same exactly thing happened to this poor laptop 3 years ago, when a quarter-cup of soda entered through the keyboard. Last summer, it worked again!
But, not as much liquid entered the laptop, so I`m sure the damage isn`t as severe. Plus, the computer still turns on, so I`m not completely hopeless.

I don`t want to spend a bunch of money sending it to GeekSquad or Dell, or wait a long time so it can dry off or whatever. Can anybody tell me what to do to get the monitor working again?

Hey i got a problem, my roomates Dell Inspiron 600m got all screwy. I don't know why, but the screen wont turn on, the computer loads up, and you can hear it, but you see nothing. Anyone have any advice?

A:Dell Inspiron 600m black screen?

Is the screen's power light coming on to show that power is available? If not then either there is no power getting to the screen, or the screen is dead (as in failed in the circuitry)

If power is getting to it, then there is the possibility that the video card in the PC has failed.

Most likely is that there is a cable unplugged or poorly plugged.

I have read all the posts and ordered a new inverter. It was actually very easy to change the inverter, but alas. After changing the inverter the screen still goes 'black' after a few minutes. Hi, I have had my Dell for just under three years and never had a problem. I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and it worked fine the following morning but then unexpectedly the laptop had turned itself off. Now, if I press the power button, the screen does not do anything and after about five seconds there are three beeps, which then reoccur.I have investigated and found that this model has not been tested, however Microsoft failed to mention that when telling me my specifications were fine for an upgrade.I am wondering whether I can do anything cheap which will both save my laptop and all my work :(. I have already tried physically checking my RAM and reinstalling windows 8 to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated.

also the laptop has had issues with the battery/charger

it wont function unless the charger adapter it plugged into an outlet.

if not the screen will go into a dark haze then it would shut off.

maybe this has to deal with it or not, im not sure...

Update...
While running the Dell Drivers and Diagnostic Cd, during the the seek test on the hard drive, as it was almost done, I got a "Exception occurred in MODULE DISK.MDM! Warning: Error reading File! Press any key to abort" So I pressed a key and it rebooted, but now says the computer is missing the HDD. I went in Setup and Device Info/Primary Hard Drive, it says {none}, where as before it showed the 60G HDD.

I would not have thought a hard drive would have caused the first problem, or else it wouldn't have booted from the get go. Right?

Any ideas out there? Are the two issues one and the same? I would like to find out before I replace the HDD just to find out it still won't boot properly.

On start-up, I get the Dell screen, followed by options for the F-2 and F-12 buttons. I then get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.

I tried removing the battery and pressing the power button for 40 seconds, no luck. Starting in Safe Mode is not possible either.

I got some CD's from Dell. One is for the Dell OS, and the other is for Drivers and Utilities.

My main concern is saving whatever files, documents and photos I can. Any idead if that's possible?

Thank you

Hello,
I am having issues with my Dell 5547 laptop. There is a roughly 1cm border all around the screen which wasn't there before and I noticed it now as my taskbar is adjusted 1cm up but when I put google chrome in full screen it sort of chops the top bar down a bit.
I noticed through google searches other people have had similar issues with Dell laptops however I can't seem to find a solution because every time I try to turn off the "maintain display scaling" it won't let me turn it off.

A:Dell Inspiron 5547 Black Border around screen

The product in the product video has the same black border. It can not be "'fixed''Some of the photos do not seem to have this which is pretty poor form, but the screen size and resolution are as promised.Personally, I would've liked a smaller laptop overall, but if it had to be this size, then I would rather small bezels and a black border, than big slabs of plastic on all sides. It makes it look better when its off and I don't notice it that much.I've also heard people say that this is to do with the touch functionality?? Maybe it gives you a better ability to swipe in from the sides... I don't know.Still, there is nothing wrong with your laptop. If this is a deal breaker for you, you might have a decent argument under consumer laws to get a refund. They really can't show pictures that cover this up and make the screen seem bigger than it is. But the video was there, and the specs are all honest.

u can try connecting an external monitor from a desktop if u have one or borrow one and see if that monitor shows anything without problems.it sounds to me that your monitor on the laptop has gone bad.. the led modules that light it up have gone bad or your video card might be bad.it could also be that the motherboard or hard drive is failing.usually if just the monitor is bad it should load up with no problems.hope this helps u.

I loaded the boot menu and tried to boot from a windows CD to run diagnostics/repair but the boot failed in a similar fashion to that described above.

I ran pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu and they all came back fine, it suggested running an extended diagnostics by booting from a dell drivers and utilities CD. Boot failed again.

I tried, however to boot to a linux live CD (Kubuntu 6.0), and the laptop happily booted to the live CD.

Hi I have Dell Inspiron - and I am using it for atleast three years This one is bought in Abu Dhabi UAE and was used by my sister for about a year or two then she shipped it here in the Philippines because I needed it It has Windows when it arrived here The problem occured yesterday It was perfectly running when i used it when i got home from school but Chrome was annoyingly kept on not responding I refreshed the desktop before I reloaded Chrome when I noticed that the desktop icons were not showing up I shrugged it off thinking my laptop is just being slow Still annoyed on Chrome I decided to turn my laptop Dell reset inspiron screen after 15-3521 black off and took a nap Note that I didnt plugged it off After hours of nap I turned it on and it actually booted but a Dell inspiron 15-3521 black screen after reset black screen I turned it off and on again for about three times but still a black screen I tried to turn it on inserting its battery then it showed the Recovery page of Windows saying that Windows didn t load correctly I turned it off again then plugged it again without its battery It showed the same page then I asked a friend on what should I do He told me to try opening it on safe mode I did but it showed that automatic repair couldn t repair my pc I did a second attempt to enter safe mode After about minutes it booted on safe mode I then decided that I will just reset it so I back up important files on my USB flashdrive I tried to reset it but only the drive on which Windows is installed It worked but after reset the power and search icons where missing It was supposedly be right beside my account on Start page Also Start icon on desktop was not showing up I just decided to finish things up tomorrow then I shutted it down Today I tried to reset it again but i decided to clean all drives this time It took almost hours to finish then after the welcome start up and Hi we re setting things up for you blah blah it just turned out to a black screen After like minutes a messaged showing that Stop running this script popped up I stupidly clicked No It is still on black screen till now Any suggestions on what should I do now

A:Black Screen after Windows 8.1 Update in Dell Inspiron 15R 5537

Hi Guys,
After so much for research, I was able to figure it out the problem is because of Intel Video Driver. There is a beta Intel video driver package which supports Windows 8.1. Try to update that package and post your results. As i have already rolled back to windows 8. It will take atleast 4-6 hours for me to update the status. The link is below for Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Model.
http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/inspiron-15r-5537.html and Install Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver ver 10.18.10.3308. You have to follow the link as this driver is not yet uploaded in Dell Drivers & Downloads (refered in Dell Post)

A family friend of my has a Dell Inspiron laptop she got in She had it in the trunk of her car for an entire year When she turned it on everything Screen Startup on Stuck Inspiron at 1545 Dell Black worked fine but she accidentally knocked it off the table on to a hardwood floor Ever since that happened the computer starts up but sits on a black screen I don't see a Windows Logo or anything Just a black screen However when starting it up There's a very faint beeping sound like the sound you hear when the car door is open And after about seconds there's a beeping noise a lot louder than the constant beeping before Dell Inspiron 1545 Stuck on Black Screen at Startup Any suggestions as to what it can be Is it a damaged hard drive or is it the screen Update I pulled the hard drive out and it sounds like Dell Inspiron 1545 Stuck on Black Screen at Startup a babies rattle So I assume the hard drive was shattered Theres Dell Inspiron 1545 Stuck on Black Screen at Startup no damage on the outside but the damage must be underneath But the screws are too tiny for me to examine the damage Unless this is normal for a hard drive to sound like it's filled with beads

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 Stuck on Black Screen at Startup

Sounds like the HDD is ruined. The beeps you hear might indicate more hardware problems. Take note of the order of the beeps, (the number of beeps and if there are long and or short beeps) then search Dell Support for info on beep codes.

You should try using a bootable CD or DVD disc to see if the laptop will operate at all before spending money or the time fixing it.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Firstly check if you can drain all the excess power from the system .
Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .

1. Turn the computer off.
2. Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3. The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
4. The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Kindly private message the service tag to the system .

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 14 5459. Sometimes when I work it suddenly black screen and the fan so noisy. After that, I must press the power button to turn it off with force. It happens about 3-4 times while I work (typing or just browsing the internet).
Could you please help me with this situation? What can I do? Fyi I have run the diagnostics and did not found any error.
Thank you for you support

A:Dell Inspiron 14 5459 suddenly black screen and shut down

Hi ZADRIANARDI,
Does this happen with or without the adapter connected? What applications are using when the display goes blank? Is the mouse cursor still seen and active when the display goes blank? Does the system overheat? Are there any bluescreens / system crashes?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28V3xvh - and reinstall the chipset drivers and video drivers from the same site and check if it works fine.
If the issue is still unresolved, then connect an external monitor and check if display goes blank on the external monitor and the LCD.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - do not make any changes here - leave the system in BIOS environment for as long as possible with the adapter connected and see if the display goes blank while in BIOS.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Keep us updated.

My Dell inspiron 6000 laptop stopped working. It shut off while I was online and when I try to restart it, it goes to the start up screen (black, says dell in blue letters) then the whole screen goes black and stays that way. I left for an hour and came back and the screen was still black. I have held the power button down until it restarts and that didn't work, I have pressed ctrl+alt+del and that didn't do anything either. I have also run a diagnostics test and everything passed. I have run out of things to try. Can anyone help me?

Hi there, I am using Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron N5110 15R laptop. I had to upgrade my BIOS so as to install and use the most recent operating system, Windows 8. I was Windows 7 user and had to clean install Windows 8. In Windows 7, I was very much familiar with safe mode, but today, when I booted Windows 8 into safe mode (Using PC Settings, Advanced Startup etc.), and I selected "Safe Mode With Networking" on restart, and then a blue Windows logo appears with waiting dots circling, and after that the screen is just black, and even after waiting for quite some time, it is still there, as it "freezed". If you guys know the solution and can help me solve this issue, I'll be very much grateful. Thank you for your time reading this. I look forward to your opinions and suggestions. Thanks.

When you say clean install, I hope you deleted all partitions as part of your installation; yes? Anyway, a screenshot of your partition structure might provide additional information that could be useful in evaluating you current situation:

I am having trouble turning my laptop on. when i press the on button the dell startup screen comes on and then goes to a black screen with only f12 and f2 as the options to click on.

I have tried turning the laptop off, resetting it by taking the battery out, pressing on f8 for the advance menu, and ran diagnostic and memory test as well. still no results.

I have the dell drivers and utilities cd rom, however when I try to boot up the computer through the cd rom im reaching a black page that has F\:< and i do not know what to enter in that field.

Somebody please help!! I called dell however i do not have warranty any longer any help would be much appreciated I need it for college ASAP!!

The keyboard on my new Windows 10 Dell laptop stopped working completely so I tried shutting down. Windows seems to have shut down but the computer won't turn off (the keyboard backlights are still on and the fans are going). Pressing and holding down the power button (even for over a minute) does nothing, I can't pull the battery as it's inbuilt.
Is there anything I can do other than waiting for the battery to run itself out? And what if it doesn't turn on again after that?

Try system diagnostics to see if it finds any problem in the components:

Press F12 after power on
Select diagnostics.

You can also check Windows Event Viewer for any error message that was logged when the black screen crash happened.

After installing an automatic update, my labtop was working perfectly fine last night i closed it i believe around 1230 am. Ive been trying to turn it on since 7pm today and it will start turning on and not show the logo and keeps making beeping noises. Is there any way I can fix this please

A:Dell Inspiron 11 3000 won't turn on and beeps 5 times with black screen.

Hi,
The 5 beeps are normally a signal that there is a problem with the CMOS battery that powers the BIOS on the system (among a few other things). This is not the battery that you think of that powers the system on, off, etc., when it's not plugged into an ac adapter.
Try this: Remove the battery and AC adapter from the system, then hold the power button down for 10 to 30 seconds. That should remove any residual power in the system. Then plug the AC adapter back in and see if the system powers up at that point.
A quick question, when you say it won't show the "logo" are you referring to the Dell logo or the Windows one? You may also want to see if you can go in and reset your BIOS if you actually see the Dell logo show up.
Let me know how those two steps go and if it helps or not. If not, please let me know if you're seeing the Dell logo at all when it starts up. And also which version of Windows that you're running on the system. If you're seeing the Dell logo but Windows won't start it leads towards something different than the CMOS battery, although the 5-beeps would seem to indicate that was the problem.

Hello
i have a problem with an inspiron 1525 laptop. Originally the board was damaged because of a liquid spill so i bought a new board and replaced it. The problem i have now is that the screen is dark, you can see the desktop if you look closely. So i thought that the inverter had gone, bought a new one still the same, bought another lcd cable and tried with another working screen, still same problem, im hoping that the new motherboard is not faulty. If anybody has an idea what else i could try

Thanks

Might be the CCFL, the fluorescent tube at the bottom of the screen that spans the width of the screen--extremely delicate job to replace.

A:Dell Inspiron One 2330 Desktop Black Screen After Changing Boot Option

Do you get any indicator lights that the system is booting besides a black screen?

Are there any lights on the monitor?

Try shining a light to the screen what do you see?

Pressing the screen side buttons for menu does the online display come on?

Try resetting the bios once more. This time completely remove the power cord and press the power on button to clear any voltages left in the system, then clear the cmos/bios pulling the battery. Put the battery back in and reconnect the power and boot it.

Hi

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks

A:Dell Inspiron 15 laptop repeatably beeps on start up with black screen and does not boot

Hi Gary,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the system switches ON.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to turn on the system.

If the system is not switching ON please connect the external monitor and check if the system is switching ON then I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Turn on or restart the computer.
Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the <F12> key once a second until the One Time Boot menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again).
At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, PSA+ or Enter ePSA, then press <Enter> to begin the hardware Diagnostics.
Write down any error codes listed. Reply to us with the error codes.

Since the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop computer emits a series of beeps during start-up if the LCD cannot display errors or problems. Please let me know the number of beeps you are receiving during startup as

Hi DHEXZTAH05
Thanks for writing to us.
Please load bios by tapping on f2 during bootup and check if the HD is detected.
If possible you can try this HD on another machine or another HD on this machine. Also please run diagnostics from f12 menu and if the test passes, then consider formatting the system first.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro. This morning I received an error code M1004 (something about overheating) and the computer was frozen at that point. I cleaned out dust from the heat deck, as it was completely blocked with dust. I also did a hard shut-down then restarted, and all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I can only use F2 or F12. I've tried running diagnostics with no help. I upgraded my BIOS with no luck. I also tried to run chkdsk from the XP repair module, and I'm getting a message saying that one or more volumes have unrecoverable errors. I also get a directory enumeration error when I try to use the dir command on the C drive. I'm trying to figure out what to do now, as I unfortunately didn't back up about 1 GB of pictures that I need to get off this hard drive. Please help. Thank you!

You can pull that drive out of the computer and put it on another computer as a Slave drive or buy yourself a USB enclosure and put the drive in there and you will be able to copy your pictures and any other valuable data. Then either buy a new drive (as this one may be bad) or put it back in and Boot off of the XP CD, Format and reinstall.

I tried again and it just gave up and retrieved the Windows 8.1 installation that it backed up.

I need to know if you are absolutely sure you removed all traces of the virus - if you had the help of a forum they would have given you the "all clear". Have you tried starting in safe mode at all?

What other graphics adapter choices are available in BIOS setup? If you choose Switchable is there software on the Lenovo site for your model that's needed? Are you using the Display adapter software from there?

Have you tested your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a full Disk Check on a single disk partition you create?

Then work through the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums including trying an alternate install method (disk><flash stick) with new media. These steps overcome almost all install failures, so you'll be reasonably sure the problem is hardware or BIOS settings if nothing works. But don't skip any steps.

Try Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview to see if there's any difference with a more modern OS install. It's already a very polished OS and worth testing this.

My girlfriends screen on her computer broke. I'm helping her buy a replacement screen like this one:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...=8302#Overview
Without the huge (dell) price tag. Where are some good parts sellers that I can trust?

Thing I need: 15-inch WXGA+ LCD Monitor for Dell Inspiron 1525

Thanks for the help!

A:Replacement Screen for Dell Inspirion 1525

eBay most likely will have the best price, be sure to get an exact match on the model number that is on the sticker, or it may not work in that system.

You will pay more if you want someone to guarantee theirs will work in your system

Start up then screen goes black before I even get chance to log in. If I shine a torch on the screen I can see it is working but impossible to do anything.

I think it needs some new part(s) installed to fix this (I think).
I know it's an old no longer supported system but I use it to run the TV guide, play some language cd's I have installed & Google some info.

I think 1 item is n inverter ?

Thanks 4 any help

A:Inspiron 8600 running xp black screen but torch shone on screen & can vaguely see

It could be the inverter - particuarly if the failure was sudden. It could also be the backlight bulb itself, meaning a replacement screen is needed.
