Portable admin tools?

Q: Portable admin tools?

I am trying to find a way to run some admin apps or utilities from my flash drive so that my tools and credientials are available and valid where ever I might be onsite.
Tools that I use are simple ones like Active Directory, DHCP, and a vpn app called Bozteck. Portability would make support more readily available.

Preferred Solution: Portable admin tools?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Portable admin tools?

Here have used a program that runs various portable apps from a flash stick.
Whether it would work with security and your various log-ins I don't know.
But can say this program is easy to work with and to carry many types of program around. It's at;

I just finished disinfecting my computer and correcting some resulting problems with the assistance of the "Am I Infected Forum" here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic438598.html/page__pid__2565682__st__15#entry2565682. At least 3 problems remain and the person helping me there suggested that someone here might know of a fix. The System Tools in start-all programs-accessories is empty and the Administrative Tools linked to from Control Panel is missing Computer Management.I found that I could get to Computer Management, though, typing compmgmt.msc in the run box.As far as I know it may be missing something else.It only shows Component Services,Data Sources, Event Viewer, Performance Monitor and Services. Also System Restore failed even after I tried it with about 5 different restore points. I say at least 3 because these are just the 3 I'm aware of, there may be others.

The server is operational, but presumably I need to configure something on it. But waht?

anyways... i have about 5 thousand system and application records in the event viewer......... everything from service control manager to save dump to DCOM and workstation errors.......................................................................................................all of which i'm clueless

is that many errors normal...........

oh and they all range within a few days.......... usually only mere seconds apart

A:admin tools/ event viewer???

Fortunately, not all errors in the Event Viewer (EV) are real problems. Actually, many are not problems at all. You can adjust the size of the records that are being held in the EV by right-clicking either Application, Security or System and selecting Properties. You can set the size of each file to keep or clear.

That file C:\Windows\System32\compmgmt.msc is a snap-in for Microsoft Management Console(MMC). As such, it should appear when calling up MMC. If it does not appear, it would indicate corruption within that particular snap-in which is causing your error when trying to use administtrative tools. I don't know if it is possible to correct this without at least a repair install of Vista.

Type MMC.exe in the start area of the search menu then press enter.

Select the file tab from the menu bar and select add/remove snap-ins.

You should get a console that looks like this:

Notice the computer management snap-in is present. If it is not there than this is your problem.

You could try SFC /SCANNOW to check for corrupted system files, but I don't know if that will be much help.

I manage AD and 30+ servers at a community college. I just got a new computer for my office and loaded Windows 7. I also loaded the Remote Server Admin Tools so that I may manage my servers. The old Windows XP Admin Tools had a tool called IP Address Management. This tool combined DNS, DHCP, and WINS management all in the same window and the DHCP would keep the server setups on exit. I can't find this tool in the RS Admin Tools for Windows 7. Does anyone know where I can get a tool like this for Windows 7?

Trying to start defrag from anywhere gives me "not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
This is true running it from
start : programs:accessories
or
control panel:administrative tools
or
start:run:dfrg.msc

Diskkeeper 9 generates the same error.

I find I also cannot run the device manager - in fact most things relating to the Management console generate the same error.

System is:
Windows XP, Service Pack 2
Pentium III, 733 Mhz
640 Ram

Checkdisk turns up nothing.

I can't see that my swap should be an issue - I've got it set to 3x the installed memory.

I cant' find this error listed much except for NT or 2000 - where they suggest that the MFT size might need adjusting. I thought that issue went away with XP.

Any ideas? Or shall I start lining up my various software media and plunge into a system reinstall?

Thanks

How much free-space is there on the drive? You need 15% to be able to run defrag.

Set the page file to system managed for a while, and delete all but the last System Restore point, and any old C:\Windows\$NTUninstallers$ , remove any screen savers and wallpapers which you never use.

Hi,

My system was recently attacked by SpySheriff and other bad stuff. Slowly I'm getting things back to normal.

The current problem is 3 items in the Administrative Tools option of Control Panel will not run when I click on their icons (Computer Management, Event Viewer, and Component Services). When I right click the items and select properties I find all fields under the Shortcut Tab either empty or grayed out. You can not enter any Target: and the Find Target... button is grayed out.

If I go to the System32 directory I can start all the programs by double clicking their directory entry.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get these programs working properly by clicking their shortcut icon in the Administrative Tools and restoring the Shortcut info. to the icon?

Thanks again

WFrazier

A:3 Admin Tools will not start, Computer Management,

OK, I'll answer my question. I was able to delete the shortcuts that didn't work. I then created new shortcuts for each item. The only possible problem I can see for the solution I used is the original targets had file locations like

%SystemRoot%system32perfmon.msc /s,

some with startup options like /s

The shortcuts I created have specific file locations like

C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32COMPMGMT.MSC

and I have no idea if they should have a startup option or not.

At least they are working again like they should.

Hi,

I am working on windows 8.1 as IT admin, users have random win8 or win7 OS.

1) How to set up RDP on my system and access user systems for assistance by asking their IP address (in the same or different subnet)? Which tool is best for remote assistance to work remotely without affecting users working on their system ?

2) How to Make a server out of a PC and share its basic needs amongst all with admin rights? Which tool is good on Win8.1 for monitoring/maintaining server?

3) Then how can I upgrade an anti-virus onto my Win 8.1 system so that later it passes on ...as an auto-upgrade to all user systems by default, without me accessing their systems???

I have installed a stock price charting program called Metastock.

When I try to open it, I get an error message: 'Unable to install Windows service'

Having Googled a bit, I have found that this can be caused by issues with three things:

1. Registry cleaning software. I had CC Cleaner (Piriform) installed and I have removed it.

2. Problems with Administrative tools. In Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/AST is Stopped. If I click Start I get 'Error 1717: The interface is unknown'

3. Problems with Event Log. In Control Panel/Administrative Tools/ if I double click Event Viewer I get the message: 'Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.

Can I manually sort out these problems?

If not, can I reinstall Vista (or the missing parts) without affecting (or, heaven forbid, having to reinstall) all the other programs on this machine?

Thanks.

So frustrated with this issue. I disabled Windows Update a long time ago once I first got Windows 10. Now I want to install updates and what not for stability and I can't enable Windows Update in the services menu under Admin tools. Anybody can help me with this? It's enabled in group editor but admin tools won't allow me to change it. Help :/

A:Update problem(can't enable in admin tools)

Disregard. I found a .bat file to reset windows update completely and was able to start the process. Thanks

Most of the advice I've seen on this subject assumes that either the folders do not exist or that the shortcuts within the folders are missing. That is not the case on this system. If I look in All Users\Start Menu\Programs, both folders are present, and each folder has its full complement of shortcuts.

The issue is that they don't appear when the Start Menu is displayed. The folders are not hidden, and I haven't been able to identify a registry key that would prevent them displaying, so I am baffled.

Has anyone run across this issue? Have a solution?

A:IExplorer and Admin/System Tools Crashing

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Viewpoint (all apps)
Web_Rebates

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {28CAEFF3-0F18-4036-B504-51D73BD81ABC} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML

O18 - Filter: text/html - {CC905FF6-B553-496C-9DFA-CFF65ADCD0FC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msehek.dll

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msehek.dll

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Let's also use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates ... Read more

Recently I've been having problems with my USB drives not being able to eject safely after certain periods of use as Windows would give me a message saying that the drive was still in use even though it wasn't I tried to fix this problem by uninstalling the USB drivers and letting Windows reinstall them After I did so and other admin hang. manager tools Device the problem became worse and Windows can't reinstall the drivers In addition Windows is also telling me that there is an error with my webcam drivers and bluetooth drivers I have tried to open device manager again to see what Device manager and other admin tools hang. the problem is but trying to open it doesn't work The computer doesn't hang but the program doesn't open and any further efforts to open the program have no response start menu also stops working This happens with other system admin tools as well I recently reinstalled Windows due to a computer virus and don't want to do that again Any tips on how to fix this problem

A:Device manager and other admin tools hang.

I know I marked this thread as solved previously, because the problem seemed to solve itself spontaneously. But this problem is back again today. Windows update is now stuck at 11% download permanently for the update on 11/11/13. When windows update automatically turns on, all other admin tools like device manager etc cannot be opened, and cause the start menu but not the computer to hang. When I shut down the computer, I have to use ctrl-alt-del and use the red button in the menu that comes up. A message pops up before the computer shuts down stating that I have too many 16 bit programs open, and if the problem persists, to edit something called FILES in my config.sys folder. I have no idea what is going on and would like to update my Windows. Can anyone please suggest a course of action?

This question probably has been answered already, so I do apologize. I'm in a bit of a hurry. My problem is I'm missing my Accessories folder completely and my Admin Tools folder isn't located in the START/ALL PROGRAMS/ tree. This is what I've done so far:

Admin Tools

The folder is located in Prog Data/Microsoft/Windows/Startup...... and the folder is not hidden, but still is not showing in the correct area (START/ALL PROGRAMS/) Right now, the folder is pinned in the Start Menu.

Accessories

I just don't have this folder at all. I did go to Control Panel and "showed all my folders" but still no Accessories. Does anyone know where I can download this folder so I can place it in the correct place? If not, is there a solution for this?

Please help.

Thanks,
Craig

A:Missing Accessories and Admin Tools Folder

Hello Craig,

Double check to make sure that you have Administrative Tools set to show.Administrative Tools - Add or Remove from Start Menu
Afterwards, you can use the tutorials below to restore any missing default shortcuts for Home Premium.Start Menu All Programs in Windows 7 - Restore Default Shortcuts

Hope this helps,

Recently, the Admin Tools icon disappeared from my Control Panel. There is a blank icon there but it doesn?t do anything. The admin tools folder in the start menu works fine, so I guess the tools are still there. I just can?t open them from the Control Panel.

How can I delete this blank icon and get the Admin Tools icon back in the Control Panel?

Thanx,

Randy

A:Admin Tools Missing From Control Panel

Hi, wonder how you managed this! Copy and paste all in the code box (yes I am using it) below then copy and paste it into notepad in notepad select file and save as in the box save as ADMIN.REG and save to desktop. open desktop and double click on the file to merge into registry, reboot to take effect.

A:Aftermath of a virus hidden folders and admin tools

XP Home does not have the "Security" tab in normal mode that XP Pro has under the folder's "Properties". However it is available in Safe Mode.

Boot to Safe Mode, and access the folder's properties>security tab and give yourself (as adminstrator) full permission. You may have to take ownership of the folder(s) first.

This might help:

Also, dial-a-fix (link in my sig) has several tools that might be useful, such as "reset permissions". It also checks for "restrictive policies".

Try booting into Safe Mood, using the secert Admin account called Administrator. Then try running System Restore. Also system restore wont get read of a virus. You could download AVG Free Edition and run it. See what comes up.

My Administrative tools for XP pro with SP3 does not list my "C" drive. My C drive is not listed in computer management within administrave tools. This HDD was partitioned into 2 partitions and the second Partition "H" is not accessible nor showing within "my computer either". This unit shows as just one arge hard drive in "my computer" however everything was working correctly until recently. Could the files for the administrative tools and computer management be corrupted and where could I go to download and re-install them?

My computer has been act a little wierd with frequent redirects when i do google searches.
I have tried Malware bytes, Adaware, RKill, SuperAntiSpyware and Avast.
Right now I just want to see my missing partition and know it's intact.
Thanks in advance

A:Reinstalling Admin Tools + Computer Management files

Go to Start/Run and type diskmgmt.msc and hit enter this should take you to Disk Managment. If your computer is redirecting then you are infected, and the virus may not allow you access to disk management. Head over to the security section of this forum and post there.

hi,
I am installed Office 2000 Proofing tools on a Windows 2000 Professional SP 3 machine which has Office 2K Professional installed. The problem is that the dictionary (of the Proofing tools) appears only in a Administrator profile. It doesnot appear in any non-admin profile.

What could be the problem.

Its been a while since I asked this Thought it would be fun to start a new thread with suggestions people have for software tools they use and the tool application pros and cons and description of how its implemented etc for free and low cost software tools that help System Admins System Admin Tools IT/MIS Professional Software\Hardware / IT Professionals and Users who support a few systems or just their own computers None of what is shared below is solicitation nor should this be used by software companies that have a product to sell to use to promote their product This thread is just to make all who want to know aware of software tools who have no monetary gain from sharing information on what software to check out and try out Here is a list of software that I have used to help me in supporting systems and users Remote Admin TeamViewer - I have used this for non commercial use in which IT/MIS Professional / System Admin Software\Hardware Tools its freely available to be used for IT/MIS Professional / System Admin Software\Hardware Tools non commercial use Pros you can easily connect to a remote computer that is healthy enough to connect to the internet and have Teamviewer installed to it to host the remote connection Cons Someone has to be at the other end to accept the connection by giving you pieces of information a number that represents that specific system and another number that is the passcode to gain access I have used this for friends who had issues gaming and I am able to chat with them over the phone and take mouse and keyboard controls and they can see me in control as I share with them whatever it is that is important that would take so much more effort trying to describe something for someone to follow that its just easier to take control yourself and show them hands on how to do something Should only be used with people that you absolutely trust as for if your hosting it your giving the other person physical access to your system to so just about anything that someone sitting at your computer could do RealVNC - I only use this now for local network remote admin use I ran into problems with systems with the service hosted getting hacked about years ago and a port forward active for remote access to my home systems I was running a version of realVNC which had a security flaw allowing for a BlackVNC attack As long as used local network and no systems on the DMZ and no systems with port forwards then its probably ok RDP - I rarely use RDP anymore as for it locks the computer at the other end when the session is established Most of the remote admin stuff I need to do is with someone else on the phone or yelling to another room on how to do something in which I can remote into systems in my home to help wife or daughter with an issue without having to walk downstairs by use of RealVNC instead And for those requiring help outside the home TeamViewer is the tool i use Malware Antivirus Prevention MalwareBytes - I use the free edition and happy with it It cleans systems well I have yet to find anything that gets around it Cons - Free version is Not a Real-Time scanner though so you can potentially infect your system and then hopefully it doesnt prevent MalwareBytes from removing the problem AVG Free Antivirus - I use this as the antivirus on my systems I am low risk for infection because I dont just download and open unknown attachments in e-mail Havent had any problems with AVG Free Antivirus WinPatrol - This was a suitable replacement for systems that are at higher risk for infections that a user could click on something bad and infect the system This warns you that something is about to make a system change that can be a very bad problem if not wanted Prior to this I use to use Spybot with Tea-Timer Hardware Software Tools CrystalDiskInfo - I use the free portable non installer edition to check on Hard Drive and SSD health and statistics from S M A R T data It works well on most drives Some external drives its unabl... QuoteSpeedFan - I use this primarily as my temperature monitoring software of choice. I like that it has a graph option to where you can select specific parts of the system to monitor such as CPU, GPU, Hard Drive, and Bridge Temp. I use this when I overclock systems to make sure that the operating temperature for the system doesnt climb into component frying levels. With the graphing feature I can run a benchmark and stress the system such as with PassMark benchmark and then when its done look at the graph and see how slow or fast the temperature climbed and where it capped at and then how fast it dropped when benchmark ended.I used to use Speedfan for this but to be honest the graphs are a bit cheesy and fixed size. It is handy for fan control on boards that support it. I have been using Open Hardware Monitor for temperature monitoring - you can resize the graph, show/hide values, detach the graph, change the time span, it stores history up to 24 hours even through reboots. Also I use Core Temp to put a temperature reading in the system tray.

I doubt it'll work, but you can change drive letters via Partition Wizard

BTW, Make sure your user account has full adminstrative priviledges (Although you may not be able to change that )

Greetings, new member and total noob here.
I'm running Win 7 Ultimate on a 32 bit Lenovo laptop.
So I was playing around with the Admin Tools found by pressing Start>Programs>Admin Tools.

I noticed if I right click and select the properties of these items, they seem to point to a different "directory". I've attached screenshots of the Computer Management and Firewall properties as examples. You can see Firewall starts in %windir% and Computer Management starts in %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%.

Can anyone please explain this. Sorry if this is basic stuff but I searched and my bad googling skills couldn't find much info. Also, why is there a space with an "/s" after the "compmgmt.msc" in the Target field of the Computer Management?

A:Start>Programs>Admin Tools... why do properties vary and what is /s?

I also discovered the "Local Security Policy" and thought it was interesting my Firewall says it's not configured but if I go to the Firewall via the Control panel it says it's turned on.

I noticed that my Icons seem to be refreshing often and not too nippy... so I searched for a fix... I used the MaxCachedIcons D_WORD 2048 registry hack but since doing so they seem to be even slower? I deleted that reg entry then rebooted and its still the same? just when I view "All Programs" in start menu all the programs listed at top icons are slower to load and I have Admin Tools on star menu too and when I mouse over that they take 1 second each to load, all 14 of them - even if I close it then go straight back

why is this happening?
is there a fix?
cheers

Unfortunately, Event Log is nowhere to be found.

Any idea how I can restore Event Log to the list?

I can't save anything in word or other programs and I can't use the administrative tools because I keep getting the message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please conat your system administrator."
I am the administrator. I'm running Webroot Spysweeper with Anti Virus. The computer is using XP Professional. I'm not sure what to do at this point since I can't save anyting and I can't get to the Admin tools?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Admin Tools "This operation has been cancelled.." Help

You can try re-booting into safe mode and then open Administrative Tools, and check things in Local Security Policy, and in the Event Viewer ( for error or warning messages ), and you can even create a new User Account in the control panel/ User Accounts, and make it as an administrator, and then reboot into that user to make any other changes.

Some software publishers or authors offer both portable and installable versions of their products Kee Pass is one of them Is it advisable to systematically prefer the portable version when running it from a fixed drive and not a thumb drive according to the logic use preferable, Are ? even non-portable for portable apps that if it's possible not to write into the registry it's better not to I often try new software and I'm concerned about long-term stability I install and uninstall a lot using Revo Uninstaller Pro But I've come accross people advising not to use Revo or other fancy uninstallers just to stick to the product's own uninstaller or the Windows function Also I have set C-Cleaner to a daily auto-run In the past I used its registry cleaner quite regularly But some people say it's better not to clean the registry at all So I figured the Are portable apps preferable, even for non-portable use ? more applications could stay away from the Are portable apps preferable, even for non-portable use ? registry the better Is this a correct assumption Are there any drawbacks to portable apps

A:Are portable apps preferable, even for non-portable use ?

HI
I have been using a lot of cleaning softwares too . Registry as well as junk cleaners.
Registry cleaner to me is a good thing as it removes the useless leftovers of programs that are left by their regular un-installer or some deleted files.

ANS1 > I recommended to clean registry as it improves performance and reduce junk in resgitry . So if portables apps dnt have or create these junks in registry then ur assumption is right and i m at your side too because " u dont need to re-install every software when u replace OS as it will work as it is if its PORTABLE "

ANS2 > Portable softwares are better then installed ones .

Above are the answer given as a user , i have used many portable softwares never had any issue just benefits

okay freshly into win now having obtained a new hdd for my comp I have been running as the admin of my computer since accounts became an unavoidable thing barring the occasional frustration-induced blunder I tend to stay Properly Paranoid in my habits to make sure I have no problems but win doesn't think that I could ever be intelligent enough to have full rights on any account other than the built-in admin account which of course I'd want to avoid using outside emergencies that render other accounts damaged somehow so I'm looking to find out how to make another user account with FULL admin rights not just the constantly have to get permission stuff that a standard snort admin account has full rights that don't involve constantly having to run as administrator yes yes I've heard people trying to get me more paranoid so that I'd endure the added hassles all it does is make me more irate with the situation so if noone's willing to provide me with instruction on this it's probably best for the thread to be left to fall off the board

A:of win7, admin rights, admin accounts, and real admin accounts

I don't know what your problem is. To make another administrator account - Start - Control panel - User Account -
Manage another account - Create a new account - Give it a name - put a check mark for Administrator -
click - Create Account.

Hello, I just purchased a new lenovo v570 laptop runing windows 7 home premium.

I scanned an image using my Epson NX 400 usb all-in-one printer. Then I tried to save it to my external USB enclosed sata drive. I haven't had any problem like this before. Hi

Ive stumbled across a problem that has been causing me grief for a few days now, every time I try to access my hard drive (C disk) it says, access is denied. Also, i cant edit permissions because I've lost admin rights. Ive tried many things including unlocking the system admin, this lets me access a few extra things like being able to use the sfc command in cmd, however, it doesn't allow me to access the C disk or change permission because it also has lost admin rights? I fear that this is a bad problem and I don't know how it happened. I have tried restoring to a previous date and that doesn't work either.

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Shimin4tor

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Hi,
I'm new to Windows 7.

I'm still trying to master the file permissions.. I need some help and I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I have a folder with mp3s (created with my old Windows XP system). I've included this mp3s folder in the "my music" library and then I inspected the folder and took ownership of it together with everything it contains (following instructions I found on the Net).

Nevertheless, when I'm trying to delete or move a file I get the message that I need to provide administrator permission! But I thought I am both administrator and owner...

Also, when listen to the songs with WinAmp, it seems I cannon save any song data. I get: Cannot save metadata: Error opening file.

I suppose, it's an aspect of the very same problem.

What am I missing?

thanx.

Hi
I need to either change a guest log in (kid's access) to

I tried this already: Run: cmd net user guest *
I tried to rest the guest password this way but
it didn't work - I'm thinking it is because I am not
logged on as admin in the first place. What do I do now?
Thx

A:change guest login to admin or figure out admin password

you cant change an admins pw from a guest account....at all

only way to change the admin pw is to boot to safe mode and enter the sys admin account or use a hacking program iso which you can find easily but use at your own risk....

Hi,
I am working on a 2012 ADDS based network and I have the following requirement.
I want to create a local administrator user account on the local domain computers (Win XP, 7 and 8) which will have full access on the PC but not the permission to edit other local administrator accounts.
Please advise how I can achieve this.

Thanks in advance,
Andreas

A:local admin account with no permit to edit other admin accounts

Local admin account by definition has access to everything and even if it doesn't it can take ownership and give itself the rights. In other words i am not sure that you can achieve what you
are trying to do.

I would suggest create a single shared local admin account and give it your desktop admins, change the password every 60-90 days to keep it more secure. This is common practice in many
organizations.

We have a script that installs a program (Office 2007). It then imports some registry file settings. It imports HKLM and HKCU. We have noticed that if this is installed as a local admin, the settings seem to take if we scan the box as a local admin(we are running a security scan to determine this (the security scan checks multiple gpo's supposed to be set by the program/reg imports). If we scan as a domain admin, the system doesn't seem to show they are set. We believe we see the opposite if it's installed as a domain admin. For the domain scan they are set, for the local scan they are not. Does this have to do with how you can change registry entries as a domain admin versus local admin? The registry settings are imported with reg.exe import filename.reg like commands in the .bat script. Any ideas are helpful.

Frustrated with admin rights - Please help me.

Just purchased new PC - HP Pavilion desktop and upgraded to Windows 10 during installation. I've downloaded Google Chrome as my default search engine with no issues. I've attempted several times to download Google Earth. Download fails: "Google Earth needs administrator privileges to install."

I am the only user on this PC and User Account type indicates that I'm the "Administrator".

Why won't Google Earth install?

A:Google Earth won't install - admin privileges required (I am admin)

Hello and welcome!

Sometimes you have to run the installation file and deliberately make it "Run as Administrator" by right clicking on the downloaded file and selecting this option. Not sure if this is the case with Google Earth but worth a try.

Basically I have two admin accounts one of which belongs to another member of family and one which belongs to me. Heres the situation:

The person who owns the other Admin account is changing my accounts password (also an admin account). Surely there is some way to make it so that I can not have my account's password changed unless it is logged on to my actual account (so my account's password can only be changed if my account is logged on?)

Is there a way?

In urgent need of help!

Thanks!

Here's an article (for Win2K) that may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309799But, IMO, the issue here is that the other person can't be trusted. In such a situation I'd suggest making the other account into a Standard User account - that way they won't be able to mess with your stuff, and they'll be reliant upon you for anything that requires administrative privileges.

A:Transferring Standard (Admin) Account to Hidden Admin?

Hello milw0rm, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could use the tutorial below to elevate your standard administrator account to have the same elevated rights as the built-in elevated Administrator account.

Be warned though, that all Metro Store apps and the Store will not work in an elevated account.

Hope this helps,

Using Win 8.1

First off, the account I'am signed on with is listed as admin type account. It's the one I had to enter my windows account email.
Since installing the new MalwareBytes 2.0 program (which went in without any problem) it put an shortcut icon on desktop. I tried too move the icon from desktop to another folder and it said I needed admin rights to do this. Usually once I click on continue it gives me access and proceeds to carry out the command.
So I followed the tutorial to build hidden admin account. I type in: net user administrator /active:yes, it completed. I signed on to the admin account and tried the same operation and it still asked for admin rights.
What am I doing wrong?

UpDate: MalwareBytes 2.0 has a self protection ability that needs to not be enabled, otherwise everything associated with the Program including program icons located anywhere cannot be moved.

Recently I did a clean install from the windows installation tool off a CD I made. Soon after logging on and making my first account (again!) I couldn't open the C drive. I messed with the owner options and made my account the owner so I could open it. Possibly before or maybe after (I'm not sure) I realised I wasn't able to use any admin settings, (like add another account or see advanced system settings) open any applications that required admin rights (like CMD or any installation file) or do anything in the system menu. I've tried to look up the solution but can't find anything that fits the description of my problem. Any help is welcome. Thanks in advance for at least reading this.

Greetings,

I am trying to change the folder properties of a applications folder from read only. I am doing this per instructions from the apps provider to prevent crashes.

When I go to change the permissions it states I need admin privileges. The only account I have on the box is the admin however I did change the name to something besides admin. The account is definitely an admin account.

Any thoughts?

Hi.

The main (and only account) I have been using since the first beta came out had administrator privileges.

Today when I booted up I noticed that my account could no longer do things that are associated with an admin account, such as installing certain programs and writing to certain folders.

I created another account with admin rights and that account has the exact same problem. I tried removing the admin status on my account and putting it back on but that did not work.

Anyone else have this problem or have any advice on how to get my account seen as an admin account?
