I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You're sure that the monitor supports 1080p not 1080i? I ask because some TV's only support up to 1080i.

Based on what you've said and are showing us, I think this might be the case. Judging from that picture, that TV does not like 1080p.

Edit:

Although I just checked the model out online and the literature all says 1080p. Is there a setting on the TV that allows you to switch between 1080i and 1080p? Or does it do it automatically?

Edit again:

I just went through the instruction book, and nowhere does it say 1080p. Something you could try is going into the PC settings and adjusting the clock and the phase controls. It may help, or it may only apply to the TV's VGA connector, I don't know.

Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

I have a dual monitor set up through HDMI. My laptop works just fine but the second monitor went black during a gaming session and hasn't worked since. I have restarted, verified its on HDMI setting, updated drivers, checked refresh rates.

The Second monitor is still connected. I can move things there (cant see it) because it is black. When I right click and click screen resolution I can see the screen pop up.

I think the color scheme may have changed during the gaming session and that might be the culprit. It was an old game - 2009

I have Windows 7.

I need some help. I have acomputer monitor that is roughly 10 years old. THe monitor last night decided to suddenly turn off and the power button started blinking. I unplugged the power to the monitor and let it sit overnight. This morning I went and plugged the power back into the monitor and pressed the power button on it. When I pressed the power button the button started blinking again. I have never had a monitor die like this and I would like to know why it died and if it can be fixed. Some more info is that i had only been on the computer for less than 2 hours. I have not spilled anything on the computer, the vent is completely uncovered, and the computer is in good working conditions according to the mannual. I need to know asap please. The tower still works perfectly fine it is only the monitor.

A:Monitor is black and the power button on the monitor is blinking

If you could try the monitor on another PC, that would confirm the monitor is faulty. In any case if the monitor is bad and considering its age, it would be best to just replace it. It would not be worth fixing.

I am working on my sister-in-law's laptop attempting to connect a 2nd monitor.  I have just replaced her RAM to 8 GIG (factory was 4 GIG)  and thought it would be easy to just hook up this second monitor.  We purchased a DVI to HDMI cable, hook the cable up to the monitor. Make sure there was power to the monitor.  Then I change the display settings to mirror the displays.  The second monitor turns on and shows the display however it in a split second turns black.  Power is still on for the 2nd display however it just displays black.    The graphic card I have in the HP-15 touch screen is the amd radeon (tm) r4 graphics.  I am wondering if I turn off the touch screen ability would it work or if anyone has any tips to get this second display to work please let me know.

Lately, one of my monitors (Optiquest Q241wb) has been having fits where it seems to decide that it doesn't feel like showing most of the screen. I recorded a (low-quality, sorry) video of this where moving a window into the upper-right quadrant, or maximizing it, produces the effect. What could be causing this? Something easier to fix, or replace?

Hello again, I have a rather strange problem with my LCD monitor, which is a Digimate L-1715. My problem is that it only stays on for around a second before the screen goes black (the power remains on). If I then turn it off and back on again I can see the desktop again but only for 1 second before it turns off again. Does anyone know why this is happening or a possible solution. I've tried contacting Digimate but their website wont let me submit a tech question to them. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Will

... but its not :/
Well i have a NEC Multisync LCD1920NX and some serious problems with it.
it went fine for quite a half of a year but then the trouble began.

if there should be black color there is a kind of black-green( one black line , 1 green line , ... ) . it also occurs with other video cards so im quite sure the monitor is guilty. the "funny" thing is that this is not an alltime effect . it happens randomly. it started with only once a few days and it could be resolved by doing auto-contrast or auto-resize. that does not work anymore. now im happy if i get a moment with normal colors :/

i even tried to look inside and checked a few cables but im not very expert with that. in fact checking the cable connections was all i could do.

hope anyone couldgive me a hint correcting this.
and excuse my bad english plz

A:it should be black ...[monitor]

I have the same problem, except it comes on blue...it has been suggested the blue gun needs repair, but new monitors are tamper proof as I understand it, with good reason, you can be zapped with over 50K volts if touching wrong spot, nope, not prudent.

My workaround is to leave the monitor on all the time. Just reread your post and noticed it is an LCD, don't know if above advice is valid. Still, if you turn it off, try not doing so, couldn't hurt.

Does it do this while machine is powered up? Will snoop around, see if I can find you an answer or someone with more knowledge than I (I know, hard to envision, but is possible, hehe) will come along and give you a better answer.

Let us know what you come up with

A:Monitor goes black

Hello saxoman ,

this sounds like you may have an infection but i am leaning twords that you may need to do some updates

you may need to contack your administrator so that they can have an IT tech take a look at it

for if you can not modify it then there is not much we can do to help you for to update it you will have to install updates to programs / drivers / and may have to make adjustments to the software & your system to get it to work & connect , that is why some companies set there hardware up so that they will be in control and limet the control that the users have

how much control do you have ?? or are you highly limeted !!

hope this helps

Hello once again I am asking your help because some strange bs thing happened that makes me go bananas and to be honest I've never seen stuff like this at no one So the problems is the following I bought a new headphone yesterday my older one died I tested it at the store at the clerks PC to see if it sounds how I want it and it is balanced for what I need it for I'm a music producer it was all good and obviously I bought the headphones My problem started after I got home and plugged my headphones in to my MAIN sound board the onboard card is disabled from bios and my monitor a Horizon just went blank I plugged a bunch of headphones while the pc was on the same thing did the clerk at the shop so I can test it out and nothing like this happened but now for some unknown reason my screen started flickering going blank from to seconds and only after I powered off and on the monitor it started quot working quot for a few seconds and then again going off until I ... Monitor going black keeps after switched it on and off Now here is another info my monitor has build in speakers BUT the cable from it was plugged in the onboard sound card which was DISABLED and so were the speakers from the monitor I plugged it in so it won't hang loose a few years ago What could be the problem What connection could there be between me plugging in the headphones and my LCD going nuts even though the other soundcard is on disable My first answer was some kind of quot shortage quot but it doesn't really makes sense since my onboard card is disabled and my main sound card has no connection with the monitor itself except that they share the same motherboard but stuff like this still shouldn't have happened and it never did until now Thanks

A:Monitor keeps going black after ...

Disabled or not metal touching metal is contacting each other. Maybe when you plugged it in it spiked through the back panel of the system (I/O shield) sounds crazy but could theoretically happen. What headphones, maybe they tried to pull to much power (High impedance?) causing the issue. Try re-plugging in the monitor cable and unplug the speakers from the disabled port.

Tried the monitor on another computer to see if the trouble follows? That way you can rule out that it's the monitor and not within the machine. In other words isolate the condition to either the monitor or computer.

Hello,

A colleague of mine has been having trouble with one of her monitors, she has a brand new computer (Windows 7) with a relatively new monitor (just a few months old).

So, while the computer is in use the monitor goes completely black. The computer still recognizes the monitor, it is still turned on and according to the input menu of the monitor it still recognizes the VGA input from the computer. From the 'Screen Resolution' panel I tried disconnecting the display and then reconnect it, the monitor comes alive after this for a short while. Disconnecting the VGA and reconnecting right away doesn't appear to have any effect.

Do you guys have any thoughts on what might be causing this ?

Test the monitor on a different computer and/or test a different monitor on that computer. That will determine which device is faulty, the monitor or the computer.

Hello when I woke up this morning I started up my computer and the 2ND monitor was black, it would also randomly start flickering yesterday. I have updated my drivers. When I unplug and then plug in my HDMI cable it flashes my screen saver then goes black. My settings/menu buttons also do not show up on the black. The Monitor is 4-6 years old. I can also use Gyazo to take a picture of my second monitor and see everything I put on it.

A:2ND monitor is black

Right, you can still use print screen or whatever to take a pic of your setup and both monitors will show up. Windows still thinks you have 2 good monitors, but it sounds like the 2nd one is shot. Flickering is a tell tale sign it`s dieing, most likely.

Try to test it on another pc.

Hi. So I'm sorta new at all this and I was wondering if there was a problem with my computer or if my monitor just has blown fuses. Occasionally (2 to 4 times a week) after logging on my monitor blacks out and it will automatically restart. If it doesn't restart and you push the button the monitor to turn the screen back on it will refuse to turn back on and will eventually restart after pressing the button about eight or nine times. Is this a virus problem or just the monitor?

Much thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Sounds very much like the video card. That motherboard takes an AGP video card. Although the tech is outdated they are still available http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...isNodeId=1&Description=agp+video+card&x=0&y=0.
If you could find one from a friend to borrow to test with would be best (good luck with that).

Home built system with win xp/sp-3....System was running fine all day & night. I shut the system down for the night and went to turn on the next day and now I have nothing at all come up on the screen. Here is what I have done already.

1)I thought that it might be a video card issue so I swapped pci-E slots and still nothing.
2)Purchased another pci-e video card and tried that, same results, blank screen
3)removed video card and tried to boot, nothing, blank screen

MB does not have onboard video so I cannot try that although at this point I do not think that it is a video problem.

I am working on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop. The issue being the monitor would randomly go black during BIOS, it works fine with an external monitor, so I figured it was the inverter. I bought and replaced it, now it stays on longer but still goes black, unless I hold the button down that tells the laptop the screen is closed for a few seconds then release, after that it will either go black again, or stay on for indefinitely until a reboot then the problem repeats itself. Is this a monitor issue or a problem with the close button itself? Thanks for any help!

When I went to turn my PC on today, the monitor was black.  All the connections seemed okay.  Went to Best Buy tonight to buy new monitor, but that's not working either.  What could it be?  With the old monitor, I heard my PC start up,  but since installing the new one, I hear nothing. HELP!

A:Monitor went black

Well if you don't hear the computer start up, there's a problem in the computer itself, not the monitor. When you say hear it startup, what did you hear that you're no longer hearing? Power supply fan, POST confirmation beep, Windows startup sound? Do any power lights come on? If not, have you checked if there is a master power switch on the back of the computer that has been bumped off, or the mains plug come loose in the socket? What brand and model is the computer?

My parents have windows 98. The computer monitor suddently went black. My mom said it had said to check the sign on connection. That is all.

It does not say that anymore, it is just black.

I brought her computer to my house and plugged it all in and my monitor would not come on so I assume that it is not her monitor that is not working.
Could it be the video card? what can we do now???
My parents are desperate to have the computer up and running again.

My monitor is working now that I have disconnected it from their computer.

Thank you for any advice.

Hello hopefully someone can help me...Every time I try to play a video game on my computer or restart the monitor goes black. My computer is still on and the only way it seems to get the screen back is to keep turning the monitor off and on until it stays on. I've updated my drivers, changed my power settings but neither worked. This doesn't happen any other time I can go online, play the games that came with the computer but I've missed playing my disc games and nothing I do seems to work for me...any ideas???

Try adding a bit more info to your post here is a Guide to making a good Post/Thread

I'll guess and offer that you could have the monitor power saving set incorrectly.

Have you enabled this?
Right Click your mouse from the Desk top ==>Properties==>Display Properties==>Screen Saver==>Power==>Power Schemes==>Settings for Always On Power Scheme==> from the drop down boxes set all menus to "Never" power off?

My monitor is blacking out on me while its still on. This has been happening for about a month now. This has happened before, and we got it fixed by sending it to the company to get it fixed. Since this is happening again I don't want to send the monitor again. I can not find out the solution to this. The monitor goes black usually when i start up the monitor and I press the on/off button on the monitor to see the screen again. I have to keep doing this for about 3-5 times til it stays on permanently until I shut it down and use it again.

My monitor is a Sceptre flat screen. I have a Nvidia Gefore 6800 graphics card.

Thanks for the help.

Hi and welcome, Just might be time for a new monitor

If you can test it on another computer, that would be great, that would rule out the video card, but since you said sending it in for repairs fixed it the last time, it's probably the same problem Look on the bright side though, monitors are really cheap now Might be time to pick yourself up a nice 19" LCD for $100

Hi I was working happily away in Photoshop this morning when I started Monitor keeps going black having this problem and it seems to be progressing throughout the day All of the sudden my monitor went black and Monitor keeps going black then came back again At first it was just doing it every once in a while now it seems to be doing it every time I try to do something The green light on the monitor USUALLY stays green but then every once in a while when the monitor flickers to black the monitor goes to stand by It seems to not only be doing it whenever it feels like now but also when I click on the start button when I change windows and sometimes even when I hit enter I m a bit worried that it might be my graphics card The thing is we just replaced the stinking graphics card maybe a year ago and we certainly didn t pay for a disposable one Oh I almost forgot One time when I restarted my computer it said something about overclocking failing but it hasn t done it since then I don t even know what overclocking is It s not something I ve told it to do anyways I m wondering if my CPU is running a too hot too I think it said something about being degrees Celcius Ok that was nauseating it just flickered on and off like ten times in a row My window title bars seem to keep turning black now too I m running Windows XP this scan thing I did says I have an Intel R Pentium R CPU GHz I ve got GIG of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce LE AHHH And now my windows are all disjointed Do you need more info than that I hope someone can help Jen nbsp

A:Monitor black

first of all if its crt (really fat in the back) then make sure no magnets are around it.
there are two major possiblities ur monitor is messed up or the computers video card is.
1.test the monitor on another computer, if it worx ur monitor is fine and u have more expensive problems
2. if it still doesnt work then the monitor is most likely fried.

I dont know of anyone that repairs monitors but someone probably does. im guessin ur filter has been messed up. its not an ordinary filter so u cant replace it or anything like that.
Best thing to do is get a new monitor.
If its Lcd (small all the way around) then there are other possiblities. always test it on another computer. test it and write back then we'll see wut happens

Try another monitor on the system. This would be the easiest way to determine the

Hi there.

I have a strange issue. I installed W10 recently and everything works fine now. However, I found something pretty strange in my screen monitor. The problem is last horizontal lines are in pure black ? just as if there wasn't anything. For example, when you minimize a window, it displays in the Windows bar with a blue/cyan line. In my case, I cannot see that. It is very uncomfortable when watching a movie in fullscreen mode, for instance. Nevertheless, if I take a screenshot, it displays that part of the image perfectly.

I suspect it is a problem of drivers. However, I have my Nvidia card updated...

My monitor is: Acer AL1916W. It is connected via VGA.

If the display is corrupt before booting into WIndows, then it has nothing to do with any drivers. A bad video controller or memory and the only cure is motherboard replacement.

You don't sound like someone able to replace the LCD or motherboard anyway, so you should just take the machine to a (Dell) repair shop and let them figure out what is broken and what to replace.

Ask for a price estimate first. It may be cheaper to get a new laptop

So I'm running Vista on an emachines desktop. I have an emachines E19T6W 19" monitor. It has worked perfectly for over a year, but today in the middle of working, the monitor just turned black and stayed black. The power light on the monitor remained blue for on, but it remains black. I felt the monitor and it was kinda hot so I turned the computer and monitor both off for about an hour and restarted them. The monitor shows the Windows starting dialog up until explorer loads (so desktop and taskbar, etc) and then it turns black. If I turn the monitor off and on again, there is about a 1-second period where it works fine, then it goes black again.

Does anybody know what the problem would be, and how would I go about solving this?

Thanks.

A:Monitor goes black

Welcome to TSG.

I realize not everyone has the option but if possible, try your computer with another monitor and try your monitor with another computer. If you can do one or both of those, that might aim you in the right direction. It could be that your monitor is starting to fail but that`s just something to keep in mind and will become obviously apparent if that`s the case.

A few questions that might help you and / or us ...

Do you get the same result in safe mode?
Are you running the correct and up to date driver?
Have you fiddled with the desktop res settings?
Have you recently installed any desktop related items such as `pets` or a screensaver of some sort?

My monitor started fading--not changing colors. It got so dark I could hardly read it. My husband replaced the video card. It's a PCI Radeon 9250 with 128MB. The monitor got better but got dark again. We hooked up our 1999 monitor and tried it. Both the old card and the new card was tried on both monitors and didn't get normal brightness. Currently, however, the original integrated motherboard card is working fine on this 1999 monitor. Can't figure out if there's a monitor or video card problem. In BIOS it looked as thought it recognized the PCI card. I didn't see anything that would let me turn off the older video card. I'm afraid to change monitors or do anything fearing I might get a black screen again. Thanks for your help.

I have an HP Pavilion F1703 monitor that didn't display so I connected a CRT to the computer and it worked fine. I reconnected the LCD and it worked for about one second and went blank.

I disconnected the LCD from its original computer and (long story short) the LCD worked on the my shop machine for the same one second.

It occurred to me that maybe the computers were set for a refresh rate too high for the LCD monitor; but, I can't find a place to change the refresh rate. I'm running 1024 x 768 resolution. I thought maybe if I started in safe mode, Windows would default to a low refresh rate; but, that didn't help either.

Any ideas?

A:LCD monitor goes blank/black after one second

Refresh rate is part of Display properties. Do right click on the Desktop, select properties -> settings -> advanced -> monitor.

I suspect that your monitor itself has a problem, as most have a built in blank timer. They are normally set via the monitor menu, but sometimes fail, and switch it early whatever you try to set them at.

Cheers

Assuming you know the monitor to be working, then this is a classic misbuild, it's time to go back to the beginning and work thorugh the build, chances are you have missed something out, or your BIOS is misconfigured.

Check that you have everything seated correctly and that all plugs are secure, try removing all items from the Mobo such as network cards etc until you have a bare system, this means unplugging all IDE devices (these can cause a POST fail) once you are down to a barebones system try booting up,

I think there is a method of holding down the INSERT or DELETE key during the POST, this can force the BIOS to load defaults.

If this still doesn't work try replacing the memory/ changing the slot and trying again and also try replacing the video card of it still fails.

If it still dont work then it may be a faulty Mobo or CPU,

If it boots at any time then add the devices one at a time until you find what causes the boot fail.

Yesterday, my computer starting acting crazy. When I boot windows XP, it appears to boot normally and right before the desktop loads, the screen goes black. The monitor light goes from green to amber. I can tell the computer is still operating, just I have no monitor. I can go into safe mode and boot or boot with VGA and get a monitor, however when I adjust the display settings to the appropriate settings the monitor goes black again. I have reinstalled my GeForce video driver and reinstalled my monitor driver but the problem still exits. My wife was using the system when it began malfunctioning. She said the mouse froze and so she rebooted, then the monitor issue began. Please help, any suggestions.

A:monitor goes black on startup

Try hooking up the monitor to another computer & see if it works properly at its recommended resolution.

I just upgraded my graphics card from the AMD Radeon 6670 up to the AMD Radeon 7850 (by XFX), and since then, my second monitor is remaining black. It is detected and I can drag windows over into the screen, but I cannot see them. The 7850 does not have a VGA port so I got a VGA to DVI converter and I believe that that may be the issue. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

A:Second monitor remains black

Which outputs do you have each plugged into, the DL-DVI-I and the HDMI, or the SL-DVI-D and the HDMI? Do they have to be the same for dual monitors? Like using both the mini Display Ports, instead? Does the 7850 manual mention anything?

Is the cable replaceable? Look carefully at the cable for any bent pins also on both ends if you have been moving it.

Hi, starting the past week, my monitor goes black, but the computer is still going on at least once a day at random times. Sometimes, when pressing the reset button after the monitor goes black, the computer will make a long beep sound and I have to hold power to shut it down. I used combofix and malwarebytes (quick scan), but it is still going on. I checked the event calendar and under system, there was lots of errors that says int15.sys service failed to start due to the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. I have a Windows XP, what's going on? Thanks.

Running windows 98

Today at the end of the boot cycle, just before windows asks for password, the monitor goes black and the powerlight on the monitor blinks as if the computer is in "snooze mode".
I can not get the picture back on the monitor. If I restart the computer the picture comes back until end of boot cycle.
I can tell that the programs are running but the screen is black.

I think I detached and attached the same hard drive, removed a RW- CD ROM and I removed a Firewire card before this happened.
I don't know if this has any impact on my problem.

Suggestions on fixes, please

HELP! I turned my Gateway desktop on this morning and my monitor didn't come on. The monitor has a blue flashing light when it is plugged in. I unplugged everything from everything and reconnected... NOTHING. I switched my monitor with another older on. The monitor actually came on with the brand name of that second monitor, but then went black. I think it is my pc???

I tried Gateway and of course my warranty is up and they can't help me. I called my internet provider just in case it was a virus and they can't help me unless I have a working monitor. Please help.

I hope someone can help me with a problem ai have with a Monitor Until recently i had a PC with one Geforce Gtx on which I was running Monitor? on Screen Black Monitors Both on DVI One Benq as main Monitor and a HP as secondary Was running fine Now because of some other Hardware broke i decided to get all new Hardware for the PC The only remaining things were my Harddrives Now i have a Geforce gtx from Zotac Black Screen on Monitor? After putting it all together and using the same Monitor situation I noticed my main monitor to go black sometimes Never the other Because that Monitor the Benq had HDMI and my new graphics card as well i tried attaching that one via HDMI It worked for a bit but it started again The Monitor went black sometimes and just stayed that way It only has a picture for a few seconds if for example you restart the computer For a few seconds it shows you the loadscreen of the Bios at the beginning when the monitor gets the first signal after starting the Computer Same after loading and when the Windows logon Screen shows but only for a few seconds then it goes back to black The other Monitor the HP works fine On that I can only test DVI not HDMI Is that problem now a Monitor problem or that of the graphics card But if it would be a problem with the graphics card why would it only happen with the Benq Monitor and not with the HP Or is there a general problem with graphics adapters on the Gtx Series I am using the latest Nvidia driver that was released however since I just updated to that driver today had the previous xx driver installed before could it be a driver issue If anyone knows what it could be or what would be the likely issue I appreciate any help with this Need to make sure whats broken and if I have to return the graphics card or get a new monitor or what else Thanks in advance Wolfseye

A:Black Screen on Monitor?

So the monitor is not affected until Windows loads? ie It doesn't blank out during POSTing ?

If so, it would be a driver issue rather than physical hardware.

I'd check out the nvidia forums to see if anyone else is having the similar issue. There may be an issue with the HDMI input and the 770 series.

Is it possible to connect both monitors via DVI?

Hello everyone.

So there's something wrong with my monitor. Every few minutes it goes black and the screen returns after a few seconds. However when it comes back it looks like the resolution has been changed and then changed back. For example my browser window isn't fullscreen but windowed and windows like Skype get moved around. Sometimes it says there is no video output but everything is plugged in the way it should be. Any fix to this? Here's a picture of what my windows look like when the screen reappears. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an odd situation that has me stumped and I would appreciate any suggestions. Last night my computer was working fine. Went to bed, left it on like normal. Got up this morning and the CPU and monitor lights were both green and normal. But the monitor only showed a black screen.

I reseated the monitor but no change. Hubby plugged the monitor into his laptop and instead of a picture got the diagnostic screen saying monitor was working check signal.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks!

I don't know if this is the right place to go for help, but I have a bit of a mystery on my hands.

Lately, my desktop computer monitor has been going black unexpectedly as if it was going asleep. The issue is not with connections or drivers as far as I can tell, it usually goes black when the mouse is moved. Talk about freaky, and it doesn't do this frequently either.

Feedback is appreciated.

A:Monitor goes black unexpectedly

I had a similar problem in which I discovered it was my display driver. Try to update your display driver if you can, or restore to an earlier point with system restore, and then update the driver.

so i have no idea where to post this and i figured out how to fix it in XP but not in 7.

so the problem:
i have 2 21.5inch monitors running off of a sapphire radeon HD 5830. in xp there was a icon in the system tray thing where i changed some slider bar to get rid of the 15% black border currently showing around my screen. but now i have no idea where to find it. called the monitor manufacturer to see if it was their problem but they are saying its something with my video card. said slider bar said something along the lines of streching the screen, but i dont see any option in the ATI catalyst control center.

suggestions? or anything that needs clarified?

A:My computer monitor went black

From the information you've provided, my first guess would be that your monitor is shot.
you could try using a different (but still compatible) power cable for the monitor, but I doubt that'd do anything.
I also doubt it's your GPU playing up, because as you mentioned, It works fine with a different monitor.
you may want to look into getting a new monitor.
