[SOLVED] Windows Vista reinstall other devices locked, no drivers cannot load drivers

Q: [SOLVED] Windows Vista reinstall other devices locked, no drivers cannot load drivers

I had to reinstall windows Vista Business on an Acer Aspire AX1200-U1640A 2GB install went well but when I tried to set up my internet, wireless did not show, I called my internet provider we tried to set it up as broadband but that didn't work either. It seems I do not have the drivers for the Ethernet Controller and other things listed under other devices see pictures in attached document. Since I do not have the internet on that computer, I downloaded the Ethernet driver from Acer to a jump drive but I cannot get it to work. Please advise for all "other devices" with the same problem. Oh, yes the Ethernet cord is plugged in and my laptop has wifi. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My PC runs Vista Home Premium Until last December it worked almost perfectly I tried hooking up a hard drive using one of those kits that lets you hook up an internal drive to a USB port The drive was usable but Windows says quot Installing device driver software quot in the system tray with the annoying green ball that keeps circling like it s actually doing something Now just about any USB device gets the same response The computer slows to a crawl and it never installs the damn driver If the device is a hard drive it will show up and I can use it but if it s any other kind of device it won t work ipod won t show up in iTunes webcam doesn t work I flashed the BIOS and installed chipset drivers from the manufacturer s website but no luck Any clues or am I just screwed because it s Vista I ve tried a billion things to fix this issue but I m willing to start from scratch if someone s willing to help nbsp

I have upgraded to Vista Ultimate after using these devices for a couple of years, and now they are not working.

In Device Manager, they are listed, with errors, saying Windows cannot load the drivers for these devices?

I have looked for new Vista drivers to download for these without luck.
Can anyone help with some advice. Thankyou.

If OEM version used for re-install that came with the system, it dictates what goes where. Is the 240GB HDD the original drive?

If so, re-install Windows 7 and let it handle Disk Management. You can always shrink the OS partition to make up another if you wish.

I've just updated my Acer Notebook to Windows 7. I've installed all the drivers that Acer supplies for Windows 7.

But what about the drivers that are not supplied? Should I install the ones that Acer supplies for Vista or stick with the 'pre-installed' drivers by Windows 7 ... Everything seems to work with the pre-installed ones.

And how do I check wether or not the Intel Turbo Memory is working correctly?

A:Windows 7-drivers or Vista-drivers by Acer

I can only reply to the first question. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Is what I'd suggest. On the second we'll have to have someone more familiar with intel turbo memory. Try Google I did and found a lot of interesting articles on turbo memory. You can draw your own conclusions as to it's effectiveness. Fabe

USB Controller

Computer #2

Unknown Device

I assume that the PCI Simple Communications Device is a modem, which I do not have a driver for. I don't know what model of modem I am using, so is there a generic device driver available for that?

You could always downlaod and install Everest Click Me and check the computer summary and see if it will reconise the Unknown devices that are installed on the system...

Then just match what it sees with what is already installed, when you find one that Everest sees that isn't installed, then download the drivers for that device...

For the USB controller, are there any USB devices attached to the system ?

If so...that might be what it is seeing as a controller and you will need to download and install the drivers for them, otherwise you may need to download and install the chipset drivers for the motherboard...

Is your computer a HP or DELL or COMPAQ or some other manufacture?

If so just post the brand and model number in a reply post.

Also it would be good to know what Windows version you are speaking of too.

Hey everyone,
Here it goes...I need to re-install windows due to a recent BSOD crash. This was my only option, however I have ran into a few problems. The first problem is that when I had my computer set up, I didn't have any of the driver diskettes/CDs with it. So basically I am kinda stuck not knowing what drivers are on my computer. My main question is:

Is there anyway to re-install Windows XP Home while keeping my drivers on the system? Or is there a possible way I could obtain them without being able to get to my dekstop?

Im not quite sure how I would obtain my drivers before re-installing or reformatting...I realize that almost everything on my computer is going to be deleted but thats no big deal, my main concern is the drivers...

Thanks for reading,

A:Reinstall Windows While Keeping Drivers?

I get the general idea of the question, but it's still a bit confusing.

I need to re-install windows due to a recent BSOD crash. This was my only option, however I have ran into a few problems.

How sure are you of this ? (or) Why do you think this ?

A BSOD does not necessisarily require a complete re-install of Windows. If someone else suggested this, they should also have the expertise to advise you on your current question(s). If they don't, then I would make certain a re-install is even necessary.

First, WinXP has almost all the drivers you will ever need. If not the most recent ones, they should be able to get you running well enough to update via Windows Update, which should be able to update most of your devices to the most-recent drivers.

After that, there may be a couple devices that you will have to either install manually, update manually or both. But I wouldn't worry about that first. Kind of like putting the cart before the horse.

But before you go and re-install, I would make sure that it is even necessary. And plus there are several options available to you that are much less risky, such as running "sfc" or doing a "repair install".

Finally, even if you go to the "ultimate" step of a compete re-installation, if you have a hardware problem or a certain type of malware, you could wind up exactly where you are right now, only with the loss of time, data and the hassle of having done a re-installation which didn't fix the problem.

When you install Windows XP from an OEM (non-branded) Windows CD, does it analyze your hardware and SELECTIVELY install drivers accordingly OR does it just install the SAME basic plug-n-play drivers every time regardless of what type of hardware exists on the machine?

The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if you can create a test drive to swap in on ANY system to help determine if a problem is hardware or software related. I've always heard that using a drive from another machine will usually cause a blue screen because of mismatched drivers. But what about if you just leave the drivers that the Windows CD "chooses" to install?

Maybe I should just stick to booting up with an Ubuntu Live CD as one method of quickly seeing if the hardware on the machine is likely healthy or not?

Brand new custom build, just did fresh install of winxppro SP1. Every time the computer boots up the monitor driver reinstalls I do nothing. It detects new monitor drivers and installs them automatically. Not really a problem other than the annoyance.

I had some other drivers that did the same thing, to fix them I uninstalled them, then booted to safe-mode then detected hardware and installed the drivers off the CD.

What I have tried:
Uninstalling, boot to safe-mode, re-installing the driver from the CD. Did have it set to plug and play until I got windows update drivers.

My notebook was having issues and would show multiple error screens. It was suggested to me that I should use the Windows 10 reset feature found under the Recovery tab in Settings. I clicked on, "Reset this PC", I then selected "Remove everything" So my hard drive was completely erased.

I'm happy to say everything went smoothly and my PC is running without any hiccups so far.

My question is, since I reinstalled Windows using this feature should I be install any drivers or is that already taken care of? Specifically, for the laptop monitor. Hi Zeromous and welcome to Tenforums.

If everything is working fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Normally, any drivers Windows thinks you need will come through Windows Update. You could also open Device Manager and right-click on your display driver and select Check for Updates to see if there is something available. But, your system came with W10 pre-installed, so you should be fine with your reset. So, if it's working well, I wouldn't worry about it. Cheers!

You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

On the list of drivers, click on the Download File and on the next page, choose Single File Download . . save the file to a flash drive and double click on the Dell to install.

Install the Chipset driver first, then the Network Adaptor . . after that you can use the internet and download the rest

I installed Windows 7 Professional over the weekend and after installing all the Windows updates the computer ran extremely well. Today, I installed Office 2007 and didn't have any problems. When I turned off the computer there were about 20 updates for Office that got automatically installed.

When I turned on the computer again, the starting process was painfully slow, and the display resolution was not correct. On the Device Manager, the display adapter includes the correct NVIDIA adapter but there is a warning "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" (But it worked fine before I turned it off!) If I update the driver software, it says that the one I have is up to date! This also occurs with the coprocessor.

Any help would really appreciated.

I would think that USB drivers would be pretty universal by now. Just about every motherboard on the planet uses one of a hand full of USB controllers and those drivers are included with Windows driver base. I'm sure you've probably done this but I'll ask anyway. Have you gone into the BIOS and verified that USB is enabled? May also want to check to see if USB Legacy support is enabled too? If you can't get into the BIOS with your USB keyboard I would reset the BIOS to defaults with the motherboard jumper.

I am installing windows 8.1 core on a Lenovo y410p..
hwinfo 64 says this for chipset: Intel HM86 (Lynx Point)

Once I reboot to start the process of Installing windows, around the point of when I format the drive to ready it, there is an option to "load drivers" before the actual install..

Can/Do I use the "load drivers" before I actually install windows? Ive seen that button but never really used it. Is that what that is for, to install chipset drivers I downloaded or something?

A:Load Drivers before installing Windows..

I've never had to use that myself, if it asks for drivers that would the time to use it otherwise just do the install and update/install drivers after.

As long as you are connected to the internet windows will find any drivers it needs to complete the install.

When I do that it just reverts to the same request never accepting my input. I tried downloading the Chipset drivers from the ABIT website, it unzips, and when I start the setup.exe it performs in the same manner. What's wrong?

I reinstalled Windows XP home SP2 and now I can't load any printer driver unless it came on a disk. I'm trying to install an HP Deskjet 812c through USB. Part way through driver installation I get the message "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." I've tried various other print drivers and get the same message. My Canon i560 installed without issue from the disk.

Any suggestions? It's making me CRAZY!

I'm having a problem with catalyst drivers. I installed Win7 32-bit yesterday and everything was working fine until I installed catalyst control center, which now causes the system to stay stuck on the blue windows wallpaper without explorer or mouse cursor. I can get to safe mode and perform a system recovery, then I can boot normally. I also tried multiple versions of drivers, but it always does the same thing. Im using Radeon HD5770, Gigabyte P43T-ES3G Mobo, Intel Core2Quad 2,5 GHz (not sure about the exact model number) and 4 GB Ram. Everything worked fine before reinstalling windows and my system specs are exactly the same as they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.

It seems that you cant load drivers in the windows startup menu troubleshoot menu If you have a OS drive that requires a driver to see raid controller some SSD's sata controller etc then you 8 drivers Load Menu - Windows Startup cant use the windows startup troubleshooting tools There is no option in the menu to load drivers and therefor every recovery Windows 8 Startup Menu - Load drivers tool in the menu fails While the majority of computers don't need to load drivers to see the main boot drive a fair amount do so this lack of ability to load drivers to see it confuses me I feel like I must be missing something I even looked at trying to load drivers from the command prompt but its not available with the tools in the troubleshoot environment I did find a quot way quot to get the recovery tools to work on drives that need drivers Grab the windows disk and proceed with an install until it asks you to load drivers for drives After you load the driver cancel out of the install which will bring you back to the start of the windows install disk which has a quot repair my computer quot option That option loads an identical troubleshoot environment but now has access to the drive thanks to the install processes quot load driver quot option The biggest problem with that tho is not only do you need to have the install disk but you also need your serial key so that you can proceed to the install point that has the option to load the drivers If you come across a machine that someone has asked you to fix what are the chances of have both the install disk and the serial key on hand this is not a rant at windows I love windows

Hi nio 707,

In BIOS setup just disable the option 'boot from network' in BOOT menu.

Also, check in services DHCP is enabled or startup type as 'automatic or manual'. If manual change it to 'automatic'.

Or try enabling statics IP address instead of DHCP.

Hope it works for you.

I have received this error with 2 network adapters now. I just bought another to see if that would fix the error present. Yes, I have installed the official drivers from the companies website. I have no idea why this is occurring. I have run multiple virus scans, to find nothing.

I've been having a restart loop on my computer. I found out how to access the windows recovery console, by using my Windows XP CD, and I know what to do from there to repair windows XP (I type 'R' and so on...I know all the steps after that). But when I want to repair windows, it says my hard drive (SATA) is not installed.

So I found out that I need to press F6 at the start, to load my Sata hard drive drivers from a disk. This is all fine.
My question is: will I lose data from my hard drive by selecting the option of pressing F6 to load new drivers? Or will my data still be OK after pressing f6?

Hi BlingDogg and welcome to TSF

You won't loose any data with that step. Go on and insert the floppy with the drivers.

Only changes that will be done to your drive will be the ones resulting from the repair install : you'll have to redo all latest updates on Windows update and possibly reinstall some applications if they stop working. Apart from that all your data should be fine.

Hello!I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition with Windows 8 as it's default operating system. Since I don't like it that much, I plan to format the hard drive (by going into computer-> Right click on C: -> Format) and then to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on it.After the clean installation procedure, I was wondering if I could simply insert the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc into the optical drive and intall the drivers like I would normally do.Therefore, the real question would be: Will the Windows 8 drivers provided by Dell be compatible with Windows 7?Thank you very much everyone.FatLord

A:Planning to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7. Will the drivers provided on my Dell "Drivers and Utilities" be comp...

I did find this one "Inspiron 15R SE 7520" If that is your model then the Dell website has Windows 7 64bit drivers and Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.

I would use the Windows 7 Drivers for windows 7, Just download them ahead of time and burn them to a CD or store on a flash drive so you will have them handy to use.

I would also have my Antivirus ready to install before I went on the Internet.

3rd point. Windows will prevent you from formatting the drive it is installed on. So you have to do it during the install process.

Good Luck

I came across an issue that I find confusing. Whilst trying to install a software to run a mobile USB flash modem, the software pops this message:

your current device installation settings is configured to prefer drivers from Windows Update over locally installed
drivers. This can cause Unlimited data Manager not to work correctly.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

Thank you for reading

Quick summary: SATA Controllers on motherboard are not working. Ordered and installed a PCI-E SATA Controller Card. Connected Hard Drive & DVD Drive to new card ports. Upon attempting to boot installed windows 7, it spontaneously restarts before loading. It seems that I need to get the Controller Card's drivers installed. i try startup repair mode, and I can load the driver and see the Windows 7 installation after that, but then I don't know how to permanantly add the drivers for this installation.

Any help? Or do I need to reformat and re-install? Thanks

A:New SATA Controller Card, Windows wont boot, how to load drivers?

Win7 should not need SATA drivers as it has most of them. There is likely another issue.

Is HD set to boot after DVD drive in BIOS?

Is Startup Repair autostarting from the HD, or are you booting DVD to access Repair console on second screen? If not, try that to run Startup Repair a few times, making sure Win7 or its 100mb boot partition (preferred) are marked Active: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two) .

If it's autostarting from HD then the change in SATA controller may be too much for your extant Win7 to start. This requires running Paragon Adaptive Restore CD on the installation from boot, or clean Reinstalling Windows 7.

Greetings This is a general question for a fresh install of Windows on a computer Let's say we just completed the installation and we open up Device Manager we haven't used Windows Update yet Device Manager shows us that there are - let's say quot quot - devices that do not have drivers installed for them If we visit the computer manufacturers website though they'll have - let's say quot quot Windows Installed OEM - General Website Drivers Question Vs Drivers - different drivers to download If we only install the quot quot drivers for the devices that Windows couldn't find drivers for are we hurting our computing performance by not installing the other quot quot drivers that were available on the manufacturers website This is just good to know in general because I've faced this situation with every install of Windows since I began computing General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers with Windows But the reason I'm asking now is because the nincompoops at Acer - despite me entering my serial number - still offer me every possible driver for my model including drivers for hardware that's not in my computer Windows - of course - can't identify the hardware so I'm ready to rip out the last little bit of hair on my head Thanks

A:General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers

Some manufacturers offer an utility that helps you identify what stuff you have in the laptop, I think Acer did.
You can also try the hardware-detection program this forum has, this tutorial

Also check the driver version, as some manufacturer list multiple driver versions and you only need the latest (usually, otherwise take the last version that works).

Also, installers of these drivers usually look up the hardware IDs of the hardware and if they don't detect anything that could benefit from them will abort installation. Some instead install anyway and you will have some drivers you won't need, but won't cause any issue as again Win7 knows that they don't match any hardware ID, and will leave them alone.

So, you may have noticed that I am talking of Hardware IDs, that are basically each device's own "calling card" integrated in each device, you can identify the hardware by looking up its hardware ID and then searching it on Google to convert that code into a human-readable device model and brand.

Open device manager, right-click on an unknown device, click on "properties", then go in the "details" tab of its properties panel from Device Manager, click on the drop-down menu and select "Hardware IDs". right-click on the codes you get on the text panel below it and select copy, then search the code on Google to identify the device.
