Preferred Solution: Microsoft Issues Hotfix for Internet Explorer Slowdowns

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

A:Internet Explorer 8 slowdowns

dawghunter,

This could be caused by a few things. First and foremost pray your computers don't have a Celeron processor. These in my opinion are very bad. Everyone I have came across are slow no matter what you have in the computer or your download speeds.

Second, check your internet security to see what level it is at and allow more active x controls. On this very internet page ill explain how to get to that.

Click on "Tools"
Click on "Internet Options or Properties"
Then click on "Security"

you can lower the security while searching to take out some of the steps it takes while searching. Just be careful on where you search the internet.

Next click on the advanced tab and make sure all the "ActiveX" options are enabled (read through them as some you may not want) if you are not experienced enough to be in this portion of IE8 options it is best left to a computer techician as you can mess some of the settings up.

Last but not least you might have IE8 but not all of it. Click on start and go to "windows update" and see if there is any updates for your computer. Specifically if there is a .netframework download through microsoft. Download all the stuff that they have for you.

With the advent of Windows Vista, Microsoft praised the boost in energy consumption efficiency in comparison with Windows XP. Still, there are exceptions to every rule. And while Vista indeed uses less energy over XP, users of the operating system can still experience excessive power use. One such example involves Vista SP2 and earlier during sleep or hibernation, and the HD audio controller, the Redmond-based company explained. The software giant has noted that there are two scenarios in which Vista SP2 sucks more power than it should.

Vista SP2 HD Audio Controller Sucks Power Even During Sleep or Hibernation - A hotfix is available from Microsoft - Softpedia

I'm trying to contact Microsoft the Hotfix since I use HD Audio Controller on my laptop, and I went everywhere through Help & Support Center but I end up having to pay \$60 just to send e-mail/chat/phone .

Does anyone know the support # other than what's mentioned above?

Thanks.

It renames the High Definition Audio Controller in System Devices to "6.0.6002.22125".

i dont know if im in the right place or not to post this but i was wondering how can i download and get back all the missing hotfixes that i deleted by accident? also do hotfixes have anything to do with my cd/dvd burners not working?

A:Microsoft Hotfix

I dont know if the missing hotfixes are the cause of your cd/dvd problems.

You could try a system restore to a point before you deleted the hotfixes.

If that doesnt work. Just run windows updates again, and the missing hotfixes should get replaced.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Also, Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

I have been been trying to figure this out for a long time now and have made no progress so I'm hoping someone can help.

I have an installer script to install a predefined set of Microsoft hotfixes on a new Windows 7 boxes.  When installing from a network mapped drive with"

"C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "Z:\Documents\OS_Hotfixes\Win7-2008\32bit\Windows7SP1\Windows6.1-KB2559049-x86.msu"

I get an error: Installer encountered an error: 0x80070003 The system cannot find the path specified.

If I run the same hotfix from the local machine:

"C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Share\HostDocuments\OS_Hotfixes\Win7-2008\32bit\Windows7SP1\Windows6.1-KB2559049-x86.msu"

The hotfix installs just fine with no unexpected errors.

All hotfixes act the same way so it's not this specific one.  I have also run sfc /scannow on the box with no success.

This is a Windows 7 SP1 32 bit host.

Any ideas?

AMD gave me this update viva link from AMD's facebook page. They told me An update is available for computers that have an AMD FX, an AMD Opteron 4200, or an AMD Opteron 6200 series processor installed and that are running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 is for the 8150 8-core bulldozer. But it just makes my computer freeze up.. Anybody have any ideas if Microsoft put the wrong files on the server?

A:[SOLVED] Microsoft (hotfix) kills machine.

Hi, by freeze up do you mean once the hotfix is installed?

I'll assume so, but generally speaking I've never(personally) seen windows put the wrong hotfix files on the server, so it's likely that either you have the wrong version of the files (x86 instead of x64 or that the files themselves over-write something important)... My advice would be to check AMD's site for the latest hotfixes for the processor(As the fix's description involves quite a few third party files which i imagine are directly from amd)... Also to use windows update directly to check for the latest hotfixes from windows (to ensure that you're not manually installing something that your pc wont like [however i doubt you've done this because usually the installer wont let you])

Could you also clarify the exact model of your processor?

I'd check this personally but i'm running an intel based system. If in doubt roll-back the hotfix and just run the setup that works for you until the next available hotfix comes out (because simply put, sometimes the update procedure doesn't go write or what's being updated shouldn't be being updated or doesn't work and now and then it causes more issues than it was designed to fix)... Also, what was the problem that you were experiencing which the hotfix is designed to fix? i.e. were you definitely fixing an issue and not just updating because it was available?

Please clarify the exact nature of the problem (i.e. at what point the system hangs and whether or not you successfully installed the hotfix) and i'll attempt to be of more help.

Many thanks,
Jamey

Well, in name only, can anyone say "THIS IS SPARTA!"?

Windows 10's speedy new Project Spartan browser will ditch Internet Explorer name | PCWorld

So Windows 9 becomes 10 and IE becomes TBA. Surely MS realizes that a name change alone won't make it's products any better (of course, they may seem better in the eyes of less-than-bright consumers).

I do have to admit that some people get confused because Internet Explorer and File Explorer sound so much alike.

A:Is Microsoft doing away with Internet Explorer?

It's ridiculous! IE is a perfect browser and I see no reason to change the name or layout.

This unfortunately has the saying "If some people on the internet say its bad, it must be bad right?"

1. please don't bold and resize everything. Now for your problem. You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 ... however you can upgrade from IE7 to IE8 simply go here and download & install IE8. If you're still experiencing problems with IE, or want to try another one (generally these are safer, as malware/spyware looks for holes in Internet Explorer) you can download Mozilla firefox, Apple's Safari or Google's chrome

I have IE8 on my dekstop and IE9 on my laptop. Having worked with 9 I am glad I didn't move to it on the desktop. It's tolerable but I prefer 8. I hear IE10 will be an improvement over both so I will probably move to it for both machines.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Open Internet Explorer, click Tools>Internet Options, select the content tab, then click "Auto Complete..." Click Clear Passwords, then click Clear Forms. This also clears the address bar.

You can turn off auto complete or parts of it.

Web Addresses: When enabled, this stores a list of web addresses in the IE address bar, so you don't have to type full addresses.
Forms: Stores information on forms within HTML forms, where you enter data to submit to a script.

To disable a part, remove the check, to enable a part, place a check by it. To disable it altogether, remove all the checks.
Note: Disabling Auto Complete does not clear the information it previously stored.

I haven't really had many problems being disconnected anymore, but my connection does seems to slow down severely quite often. In fact, this happens practically every single day. Usually when this happens, I change the wireless channel, reset my modem and router, then reboot, and this solves the problem most of the time. But eventually, I just have the same problem again. And it gets painstakingly slow, too.

A:Wireless router causing internet slowdowns

Your title says that the problem is caused by the wireless router. You know this because the problem doesn't happen when you are connected directly to the modem?

Since you say the problem is the router, have you tried just resetting it and not messing with the modem or computer to get working again?

My computer is infected with viruses/trojans and whatever. I get a number of pop up dialog boxes that have warnings and most often lead to pages recommending the purchase of anti-virus software. I suspect some of the pop ups are legitimate warnings and recommendations from Microsoft but I don't know how to tell the legitimate warnings/recommendations from the adware. Is there a way to clearly identify that a pop up message is from Microsoft security?

I'm running Windows XP with service pak 2 upgrade on HP Pavilion a350n. Thanks.

A:Microsoft Internet Explorer Pop ups/Warnings

Never click those pop-up boxes unless you're sure who is sending them (sometimes they're not even pop-up boxes, but only made to look like they are).

My suggestion for what it's worth. First, completely delete all cookies and temporary Internet files and reboot your computer. Then, if you don't have them, download SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and CWShredder (all free) and run them. They should be a link in the thread Security Help Tools at the top of this page. It sounds like a "Cool Web Search" problem; sometimes it can be easy to get rid of, and something . . . it ain't.

I've recently been staying at my Aunt's house, and she's been having some trouble with Interenet Explorer. About once every ten minutes or so, Microsoft Canada | Devices and Services opens up in IE, regardless of whether or not she's doing anything at the moment. While I would normally suspect some sort of malware, the fact that it opens to the official Microsoft website suggests that it might be a problem with Windows updates or settings.

She's currently running a Windows 7, SP-1 computer using Internet Explorer 11 (with the latest updates).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Google Toolbar gets bundled with Picasa, which I see you do have. You can uninstall Google Toolbar if it bothers you.

Let's see if we can get to the root of your problems. First, I need you to do this:

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

1) Trying using a different web browser. Maybe something like FireFox ? I've been using it for about a week now and love it (especially the tabbed browsing). It's way more customizable than IE

Or...

2) Have you tried Installing the Google Tool bar ? When I do need to use IE for the odd site I've found the pop up blocker with the tool bar worked great!

As part of its continued quest to be more open and accessible, Microsoft has confirmed some of what it's working on for the next version of Internet Explorer.
Among the features in development are the Media Capture API, that lets Web content manipulate audio and video streams from microphones and webcams, the HTTP/2 protocol, currently being developed by IETF, and Web Audio, an API that lets JavaScript process and synthesize audio. The company also plans to implement a JavaScript feature called Promises that should streamline development of asynchronous scripts.

Hello,

My computer was infected with the bravesentry trojan. Somehow while repairing it I encountered another problem. When I am on line browsing I can only open one web page at a time. If I click a link that automatically opens a new page, the first page closes down and on the task bar where it says the open page it says "about:blank microsoft" . So, I think or thought I had the about:blank virus. I have done everything I can find to do.

I posted my Hijack this log file and had it checked and I was told that it is not a serious security issue.

So, now I'm looking for more help. Does anyone know how to repair internet explorer? I have gone to tools and reset everything to default.

Should I reinstall IE?

You should try Eset's online scanner at www.eset.com/onlinescan. Make sure to check the boxes for unwanted applications and tell it to remove threats. That can usually remove malware such as this stuff you are dealing with.

I'm on a network system with two computers running Windows XP pro. I installed AVG 7 on the secondary computer and after AVG scanned the comp. it found 11 Trojan horses and put them in their vault. Now everytime I try to connect to the internet it gives me [cannot find server-Microsoft Internet Explorer]. I uninstalled AVG and disabled Zone Alarm and it still gives the same message, so I tried running System Restore and it tells me "restoration incomplete". After checking around, the main computer has an IP number 192.168.1.100 and the secondary one has IP 169.254.184.142. I tried running the connection wizard and still didn't help. Is the secondary IP number starting with the 169 an invalid number, as I was told this was such, and if so, how do I correct the number to match the main computer?

Any help will be appreciated

My problem has only just started, dont know why, but when I click on the brower icon in quick launch it sometimes cannot connect, I get an IP address in the status bar together with a search icon? and it just hangs.

If I close the browser and try again eventually it will go in, sometimes straight away, sometimes it can take 5 attempts, once in then all other links work fine and surfing is OK.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

I get a message from Microsoft Windows that says (Internet Explorer has stopped working) Then in about 10 seconds, a message pops up and says (The problem with the link has been repaired) or something like that. This happens very often and am damn sick and tired of this problem. Can anyone on here help me or do I need to contact Bill Gates? It is a Vista system.

It will almost always happen for sure, when I try to look at Classmates but also happens when I open other sites

A:Microsoft /Windows/Internet Explorer Problem

Try this

This will remove all add-ons, the ususal cause for such problems. You will have to replace them, one by one to determine the culprit.

If that does not work try clean boot.

Before you do either of the above, how about trying another browser; Chrome is nice.

Hi,
I am using a laptop running Windows 2000 Pro. Whenever I click on the icon to run Internet Explorer, Windows Installer comes on the screen and tries to install Microsoft Publisher 2002. After I cancel the install, internet explorer works; furthermore I already have Microsoft Publisher 2002 installed and functional on my computer.
Is there any way to make the Windows Installer stop doing this?
Thanks.

A:Internet Explorer/Microsoft Publisher Problem

Welcome to the forum.

Have you let the installer complete? I am hazarding a guess that IE is using Publisher at the default HTML editor. Try looking in "Tools">>"Internet Options">>"Programs" tab and set what the default HTML editor is set to. Try switching it to something else and see if Publisher keeps yelling at you.

It seems any real work or asking question about MS Edge not doing any thing very well except saying it' read fast get covered up. Will Yes it is fast because it doesn't do very much. I keep reading about problems I am having and the solution is always use
the option to open it with IE. So what good is Edge other then adding another layer of confusion without controls.
If it doesn't get fixed real quick. It will cause many users to start dumping Windows 10 and going other places for support, like Apple, or getting off of windows systems. Right now it is a pain in the backside, and don't try tell us how good it is,
because you sound like Bagdad Bob did in IRAQ.
MS Edge needs serious work to make it functional for real work...

A:Internet Explorer 8 - Issues

Hi songkrai,

A couple of questions:

1. Do you have tabbed browsing enabled and is it the tabs that are closing, so that only one tab is open at a time?

2. Is the new website (Bwebsite) overwriting Awebsite or is Bwebsite opening a new tab and closing Awebsite?

If tabbed browsing is not working, just check that it is enabled by going to:
Tools, internet options, general tab, and selecting 'settings' next to where it says tabs. Below is a pic with my default settings.

I started IE and it is not working. If I click on the drop down box, it freezes. If I type a URL into the box, it shows that the page is loading, but it never does. It does the same thing on both computers. What could it be?

A:Internet Explorer Issues

Hello,

Do you have a Firewall? If so, (which is recommended if you don't) you may want to have a look at the program permissions to see if IE is allowed access to the web.

Hope this helps,

I'm running Windows XP and I have a pop-up blocker too. For the last couple of weeks, everytime I open my Internet Explorer, I get another window that pops up with it. Another thing I noticed is when I google (which I do daily), and I click on a link that I want to go to, I get redirected to a different page. This is driving me crazy. I have run my virus program but nothing comes up. Why is this happening?

I love times when its just one issue after the other and people you're helping don't want a reformat. D:
I didn't want to post in the virus section because I know that is either posting logs or getting a full fix to start off. I've already run some cleanups and now having this issue.

I'm on a computer where it has ie6 on the desktop and in the main menu but on the start menu it has ie7??? when you open the desktop ie6 it just dumps a shortcut. When you try to open the ie7 it opens a second window and everything is blank when you try to re-direct away from the home page.

I'vetried a few cleanup methods cause this is the result of an infection and im not sure if its all gone but I've run several tools.

Any help would be much appreciated.
