Windows load screen at boot, looong black screen, then normal startup

Q: Windows load screen at boot, looong black screen, then normal startup

Hello,

I have been having this problem since a week or so. Broni has helped me in malware forum to rule out malware as responsible. My machine is clean and I was refered here for further help.

Here is my problem:

At boot-time, I see windows XP load screen with the progress bar, the progress bar advances to the end and then, the screen turns pitch black and all is see is an arrow cursor I can move around. I thought until yesterday that this was a permanent freeze-up, but if I wait, say, 6 minutes, the black screen disappears and windows then starts normally.

Last week, problem was intermittent, it now happens all the time.

Windows boot-up was fine before.

Please help me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had this tons of times with my old XP PC. It is normal if you have a lot of files on the HDD and you have little RAM. How much RAM do you have? What is the capacity of the HDD? And do you have the Windows XP disc? Would you be willing to upgrade the RAM and/or the OS if we must resort to that? Or would you rather just buy a new PC?

I had recently formatted and reinstalled windows xp home edition. Everytime I restart my computer this comes up after the Dell logo displays. It lasts for approximately 5 minutes and then the Windows XP loading screen comes up and boots to the desktop. This load is really annoying and has never happended to me on previous installs of Windows XP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

That screen is actually a byproduct of SP2, as long as you run SP2 your stuck with it.

A:Windows 7 won't boot in normal mode (Black screen with movable curser after wind

FWIW:

Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons

Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Registry , “the Windows registry stores all application settings in one logical repository (but a number of discrete files) and in a standardized form.  The registry contains important configuration information for the operating system, for installed applications as well as individual settings for each user and application. A careless change to the operating system configuration in the registry could cause irreversible damage, so it is usually only installer programs which perform changes to the registry database during installation/configuration and removal.  If a user wants to edit the registry manually, Microsoft recommends that a backup of the registry is performed before the change.  Editing the registry is sometimes necessary when working around Windows-specific issues e.g. problems when logging onto a domain can be resolved by editing the registry.  The Windows registry can be edited manually using programs such as regedit.exe, although these tools do not expose some of registry's metadata such as the last modified date.”

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registry_cleaner :  “A registry cleaner is a class of third party software utility designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system, whose purported purpose is to remove redundant items from the Windows registry.  Registry cleaners are not supported by Microsoft, but vendors of Registry cleaners claim that they are useful to repair inconsistencies arising from manual changes to applications, especially COM-based programs..

The necessity and usefulness of registry cleaners is a controversial topic, with experts in disagreement over their benefits. The problem is further clouded by the fact that malware and scareware are often associated with utilities of this type..  There is a popular misconception that the value of registry cleaning lies in reducing "registry bloat". Even a neglected registry will seldom contain more than two or three thousand redundant entries. Bearing in mind that the modern registry may contain more than a million entries, the elimination of two or three thousand will not save any noticeable amount of scanning time.

Some registry cleaners make no distinction as to the severity of the errors, and many that do may erroneously categorize errors as "critical" with little basis to support it. It.  Removing or changing certain registry data can prevent the system from starting, or cause application errors and crashes.  A poorly-designed registry cleaner may not be equipped to know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what detrimental effects removing it may have. This may lead to loss of functionality and/or system instability.

While it is true that some registry cleaners are safe, these cleaners do not improve performance. The rest are a mix of snake-oil, actual malware, or dangerously powerful tools unsuited to non-professionals.”

For the reasons pointed out above and others…BC does not encourage/suggest that any member use a registry cleaner.

sounds like you need the PCIe power connector to run your video card. Try removing the card and enabling the onboard video until you get a new PSU or adadpter.

How to run chkdsk and System File Checker (SFC) from the Recovery Console Boot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run chkdsk first then SFC
If you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above if not C.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
Let either run to completion undisturbed.

Hello.

Just today, I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks very much for your help.

A:Blue screen of death, boot problems, black screen startup

It's a nasty error that requires some persistance and resourcefullness to overcome without a clean install.

If you have a Windows CD or have the recovery console installed, you might want to have a go at these directions.

A:Can't access startup screen, boot up leads to black screen

Hi Helix935 and welcome to Tenforums.

If it was less than 10 days since this happened, you might have been able to go into Settings>Recovery and rollback from the Anniversary Update. But it's been too long now.

If it's data only that you're needing to save, you could boot the system to Kyhi's rescue media and use File Explorer to copy your data over to an external drive, then perform a clean install, (or reset or refresh from within safe mode).
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums
You will need to reinstall your personal applications after the OS is working again though.

So, here is my story,
Yesterday I wanted to install graphics drivers form Dell website due to some problems that I had.
My laptop info: DELL_Intel Core i7-4500U CPU_RAM8GB_Windows 8.1 .
Graphics Dr.: Intel Graphics Family & AMD Radeon 8850M.
During the installation of a 'new' AMD Radeon 8867 - if I remember well - , my screen started to flash and then got black. My laptop was on with black screen and the cursor flashed. I turned it off, then back on , and it was the same story....nothing.. I pressed Shift+F8 and Nothing.
I can only access to BIOS (F2) or to BOOT MANAGER (F12)... Unfortunately no Safe Mode is an option. In fact, how is it possible to go to safe mode with a black screen on Windows 8??
I would appreciate any suggestions to fix the problem.
Thank you!

Hello I am having a problem with my computer which it seems is relatively common but doesn't have any straightforward solution because it could stem from a variety of causes PROBLEM My Windows Asus laptop shows me the typical Load Black on Startup, Mode Can't Safe Screen startup sequence Win logo takes longer than normal then just gives me a black screen with a cursor on the login screen The cursor works fine and actually has my preferred non-default mouse sensitivity The problem is Black Screen on Startup, Can't Load Safe Mode the rest of the computer isn't working Things I've tried -ctrl alt delete on the black screen does nothing -booting in safe mode gives me a black screen with a working cursor as before -ditto for safe mode with command prompt Here I'm trying to run sfc scannow to see if it repairs something This is a solution I found via some Googling Other solutions I've Black Screen on Startup, Can't Load Safe Mode seen suggested which won't work for me -Asus has a system recovery function which was working fine but it wants to delete one or both of my HD partitions This is simply not an option likewise with restoring to factory settings I spent like hours Black Screen on Startup, Can't Load Safe Mode playing Skyrim in the past couple days and I would just be devastated without that save file -One internet tech whiz talks about how he just whipped out the HD and attached it to another computer from which he was able to scan save data or whatever This is a laptop that doesn't work -I don't have any recovery disks lying around and I don't have burnable CDs on hand -I do have a flash drive which I could use but the solutions I've seen involving flash drives are mainly based on virus removal I really am not sure if this is a virus I've had problems recently with deteriorating battery life which led to some accidental shutdowns due to power running out I think I may have hardware complications due to this but I don't know anything so feel free to tell me I'm wrong Relevant specs Asus G VW Intel Core i - QM Nvidia GeForce GTX M --- have had problems in the past with video driver repairing and then recovering That's what I thought this was at first but it didn't recover GB RAM IIRC HD is two partitions of GB each I believe The C drive is full almost to overflowing the D drive is nearly empty except for a couple folders of a TV show I would be willing to wipe Drive D The laptop has been carried around in a backpack used in a variety of places exposed to steam from being in the same room as a shower occasionally run out of power unexpectedly every once in a while due to battery deterioration I've had it for a year so it's seen some use I open it regularly to clean the fans although I don't do anything special just wipe down the filters which can get some dust on them I have noticed a loose piece of aluminum or something was bouncing around detached in there last time I opened it but it didn't come out easily so I let it stay rather than poking my important computer parts All help is REALLY appreciated here I would love to be able to get back to Skyrim ASAP Thanks

A:Black Screen on Startup, Can't Load Safe Mode

After some messing around, the computer has started a CHKDSK. Right now I'm getting a lot of lines saying "File record segment #### is unreadable." Is this a hardware issue or can it be fixed by the computer itself? If it's a hardware issue on the C drive, am I right to assume moving my files to the (relatively unused) D drive won't solve the problem because my OS is on C? Will System Restore/ restoring to factory settings on C solve the problem?

As a side note, it turns out Skyrim saves are on the Steam Cloud so it really doesn't matter if they get deleted. I'd still like to salvage my data if I can.

I have - screen mode normal after and selection. issue Boot safe black to fix a P Ghz computer with XP Pro and a GB HDD I have no idea what happened to it previously All I know is that it needs repair When I boot up it goes through post and memory check just fine I also notice that the screen resolution is out of wack but I figure I can always fix that later Sometime after the memory check Boot issue - black screen after safe and normal mode selection. the screen goes off and shows this red box saying something like quot The input signals are nowhere to be found Boot issue - black screen after safe and normal mode selection. monitor will shut down in seconds quot Usually it gives seconds shuts off and then comes back on I ve Boot issue - black screen after safe and normal mode selection. restarted the computer many times - and it always happens in that sequence Then there s the HDD boot up It always brings me to the quot Last Known Good Configuration quot screen where I must choose between Safe Mode Safe Mode with Net or Normal I have gotten to the point where I ve tried all of the above options it gives me that white horizontal loading bar at the bottom which reaches the other end - and hangs I ve left it on for hours nothing ever comes on The screen is perpetually black I ve tried the bootable CD which gets me past the load bar up to the trademark Windows XP black screen load bar From here it takes me to a black screen and I ve sat there listening to the HDD to see if it s reading - but all I hear is silence I ve also swapped the hard drive with a working GB drive and I still get the same results At this point I m not quite sure what it is I could try swapping the IDE cables but when I check in BIOS both GB and GB drives have been detected Any ideas nbsp

A:BSOD (black screen and windows startup screen freeze

Ok 116 error is caused by your Graphics card.
First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.

If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,
download gpu-z to check if your card is getting too hot, also is there lots of dust in the card?

Do you overclock your video card?

A:Blue lines at startup? Screen shuts off when I boot in normal mode

The main problem with my computer not being able to load and the vertical blue lines was solved. The video card indeed appeared to be burned out or malfunctioning.
There was as a result no virus affecting my system.
In case anybody is reading the main way you can use to see if theirs a virus or your video card is malfunctioning is by running video tests or if any lines appear on the dell logo because viruses usually affect your system after the dell logo loads and when windows starts to load

Doesn`t sound too good mate.

The only thing I can suggest, is to try another video card. If that works ok, then you know your video card has failed.

I dont see an edit or delete post option for the above post, so ill just have to say nevermind, i fixed the problem by getting rid of a few unnecessary things in the startup list that seemed to be causing the problem.

Hello!

Gateway NV55C laptop with Windows 7 and Hitachi HD.

1. Turn computer on. Get "No bootable device-insert boot disk and press any key."
2. Windows 7 Setup Disk. "Windows is loading files...", then dimly backlit black screen with movable cursor.

Any ideas how to get past this?

Regards,

Leaning

A:Black screen with cursor. Will not boot to HD or load setup disk.

Boot into BIOS setup to see if hard drive is detected. If not try reinstalling it to see if you can get it to show up in BIOS setup. If not replace it.

If HD is detected work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

Hello

I am trying to reinstall win. 10 on my lenovo thinkpad e540. I first tried with creation tool on a 8 gb usb pin that didn't work. Everytime I reached 60% an error message popped up saying it couldn't recognize something.

I then made a recovery key on my usb pin and disabled fast boot mode in bios and selected to boot up from my usb pin in bios. When the installation is reached to 100% I am asked if I want to clean my TPM at first I pressed yes then the pc reboots and after that nothing happens I can see a black screen and a loading sign. I tried to run it again but this time I presses ESC when it asked me to clear my TPM files and the result is the same as before.

Can somebody please help me I am running out of ideas and it is starting to pis me off😀

I m not certain at this point if there is some sort of conflict or if it is an infection The login screen rapidly blinks black to normal the text and video appears corrupted and nothing responds to mouse clicks or keyboard Using Windows XP Pro HP Pavilion Notebook computer Here s what I ve done so far I started by using a Norton Ghost live boot CD to backup the existing partition so any work I do can be reversed I was able to boot to safe mode and all is well I tried quot diagnostic boot quot from within msconfig which basically shuts off nearly all non essential services progs and init files This unfortunately doesn t rid me of the blinking bootup problem The computer already has AVG installed and has been running consistently even black->to->normal repeatedly login Windows blinks screen when the problem began From safe mode I tried installing and running the latest Malwarebytes Anti-Malware This found no problems Being I have a backup image I tried running combofix as this has saved me in the Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly past Combofix complains that AVG is running Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly in safe mode despite the fact that no avg processes show on the process list and the one AVG service listed in service manager is now disabled I tried to uninstall AVG from safe mode but the uninstaller quits with an error stating it could not make a registry key So I can t uninstall it Combofix ran anyway installed recovery console but failed to fix the blinking problem when booted normally I still don t know if this is malware or a Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly conflict but family members claim no no software of any kind including drivers were added recently The combofix log does mention finding a file called deploytk dll but the file now appears to be removed and the blinking problem persists I d post hijack this and combofix logs but the instructions say this forum is not for HJT logs so I m not sure how you d like to proceed Again just basically want to determine if this is malware or conflict and how to fix it Thank you in advance for your time

A:Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly

Turns out the problem is with the video ram. Running default XP "vgasave" driver works fine. Problems occur only when kicking in higher resolutions.

At this point I'll run the vender diagnostic and arrange a warranty repair.

Basics Dell Dimension desktop with G RAM running on XP home edition USB mouse keyboard amp printer connections Wired Ethernet connection Printer is an HP DeskJet D What happened I m fairly certain this reflects the order of the actions I took and the resulting problems but it s been a long few days There was an intermittent problem with the printer ie it was flashing lights and printed items would sit in black in Screen safe normal after modes & the goes logo Windows queue but never actually print The computer was also running VERY slow I Screen goes black after the Windows logo in normal & safe modes used the update feature in the HP software but it didn t resolve the problem I then used the Device Manager to look for better drivers without success so I deleted the printer from the printer window with the thought reinstalling would fix the issue however the PC locked up during the delete process due to the delete Soft restart wouldn t work so I hard booted the system When I restarted the system I got a blue screen in the boot process with a ialmrnt file issue which I researched and learned is a video problem After several re-attempts to start the PC in normal mode I booted to safe mode and used the restore feature going back to the last date in which system was working When I restarted the computer I got the same message so I restarted it to safe mode and disabled the video Screen goes black after the Windows logo in normal & safe modes driver hoping on restart it would find and fix the issue The computer then started to normal mode but in what looked like VGA ie big granular characters icons I tried to change the video settings from desktop gt properties without success wouldn t allow me to select anything I then tried to search for new drivers through the device manager without success finally I tried the system restore again but when it came back up from the re-boot the screen went black after the logo I now get this black screen regardless of if I select normal safe mode or any other option including the VGA mode though I still hear the sounds from the select a user screen so I believe it s a video driver issue I considered the recovery disc but in the repair mode it s looking for the administrator s password which is not administrator admin Dell I did try Help please

Okay, this is all using a computer that is property of my grandparents... My brothers sometime come here to play a game that requires a higher resolution on the monitor, so I suspect that may somehow tie into this problem.

When I restart Windows and try to run normal mode, it gets to the step right before user account selection and idles at a black screen. I also noticed that, on my monitor, the green light under the first icon (which I suppose represents an active display) goes off, opposed to how it is now (in safe mode with networking) where it's on.

I don't know why this is happening. Can anyone please help?

A:Solved: I'm getting a black screen after Windows (normal mode) boots!

If it's a resolution problem, does anyone know how I can change my NORMAL mode's resolution in safe mode? Maybe through the registry? I have no idea where the registry key would be at, though.

i did a little trouble shooting and think i've narrowed it down to the graphics card which is a xfx radeon hd 5850 xxx edition. which was abit of a shock because it's only been used for about 3 days... it will display fine on safe mode.

i can load all safe modes with no problems, then i disable the video device and can log into windows normal mode, i've got the latest driviers installed and tried unistalling them and installing the ones that came with the card to no avail..

Probably the video driver. Have you gone to the mfr site for the newest video driver?

Hi I have 3 years old Toshiba L300-D.
1 year back I upgraded vista to windows 7 Home premium.
3 days back I had problem - my starting windows page was hanged and was not proceeding forward, also All types of safe mode was getting stuck on classpnp.sys.
After reading many forums I booted with USB (mounted with windows 7) and used command prompt and deleted all "pcmcia" realted files from C drive. Now using F8 function
I can't use any option (all option safe mode, low resolution, startup repair, etc won't work, even changes in Bios setting won't work). Also now while booting my PC with USB, after starting windows page, black screen appears with white arrow and it won't go further this black screen so now I can't even use command prompt & Installation option .
Now I don't know what to do
Any help will be appreciated

A:Classpnp.sys, black screen during startup repair and boot

Have you tried any other boot utilities? You can backup your info and format the drive using PartedMagic. You can download the boot CD using the Downloads link under Navigation on the left pane of the page. That may allow you to boot the Windows Installation.

Another trick that sometimes allows bootable media to work is to turn off the computer, remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, and hold the power button down for thirty seconds to reset the BIOS software to hardware connections. This also cleans up any temporary memory corruption that can cause boot media to fail due to it not being able to write to the memory properly.

You could also clear the CMOS and see if that allows you to boot.

After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal and everything works as normal. This doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode.

I attached a list of start up services, installs, and scheduled tasks, along with my latest boot log.

Any suggestions?

After doing a system image backup I wanted to test the recovery disk. To have boot from cd tried changing bios to disable secure boot and enable legacy boot.  Couldn't get pc to boot after that so reset cmos by shorting the pins on mboard.  Now on startup always get 6 beeps and black screen but after a minute windows login screen comes on and it runs fine.  Can't access bios setup screen no matter what key used on startup.  6 beeps indicates a video card issue but no hardware errors indicated in device mgr.  Want to upgrade to Win 10 but fearful about doing it until address this boot issue.  Appreciate all help.

A:windows will not load - black screen

If you don't know your admin password, I'm not sure there is much you can do.

If you have access to another computer, you could take out the main HDD and hook it up to the other computer to act as a slave drive so you can get any important files on there. Then hook it back up to the 'damaged' computer and completely wipe out the drive using DBAN and then reinstalling Windows.

Are you using the integrated graphics or dedicated card installed?

If using a dedicated graphics card try removing it and using the integrated.

Try removing the memory modules and booting with on at a time installed. (swapping between attempts)

A:New build - flashes load screen then black screen

Hi BC welcome to Techspot,

Firstly the "purple adapter" is a PS2 conenction.

There are many reasons as to why this error may occur and how to to sovle this issues but it sounds like you have tried to start a windows installaiton and becasue the disc was scratched it hasn't completed the it hence it comes up with the error "BootMgr mssing". The best solution here I think would be for you to get another Windows disc and try re-installing windows.

to get into the BIOS remove the windows disc from your PC and restart. when the PC is laoding up hit the F2 key and this should allow you to load the BIOS.

Hello,

I bought a new computer in September, Dell N5050. The first problem occurred in November, I made prntScr: http://i49.tinypic.com/2gsjp5y.png
This problem is solved: I thought it's a virus, I downloaded Advanced SystemCare (I had McAfee) this scanned my computer and found a four Trojan.

Then came a new problem.
I turn on computer, starting windows, black screen with a cursor about 8-9 minutes, log on and welcome screen loading about 5 seconds.
OR
I turn on computer, starting windows, black screen with a cursor about 1-2 minutes, log on and welcome screen loading about 6-7 minutes.

I really don't know, what it depends on.
What is problem? How I can fix it?

PS: my native language isn't English. Sorry for mistakes.
PS: I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Thanks,
theHappie.

A:Welcome screen load time or black screen with a cursor

First thing I'd do is getting rid of Advanced System Care. It's a system optimizer, and Windows 7 does not like optimizers. I'd bet that it is responsible of the slow start.

Second, ASC isn't an antivirus, or if it is I never heard of it. Which isn't a good sign. Install a good antivirus and run a full scan, I like Avira (my favourite, which is free and nuked all evil things I threw at it), but other people like Microsoft Security Essentials (again free, but less powerful than Avira).

Typically...black screen with blinking cursor in XP can be resolved by running the fixmbr command from the XP Recovery Console. Since you have an HP system, you may not have the RC.

I installed the Windows download last night and everything seemed to go smoothly until the log-in screen came up I logged in with my password hit enter - got the welcome and it transitioned to a black screen with no icons no background no task bar The cursor is active and movable left and right clicks do nothing The only thing that shows is not load log-in; screen will just Windows 10 desktop a after black my Windows 10 will not load desktop after log-in; just a black screen Comodo Secure notification box in the top right-hand corner I've attempted to by shutdown and restarting Windows 10 will not load desktop after log-in; just a black screen to get to a desktop without success I then tried a Safe Mode start by waiting for the log-in page holding Shift and using the power icon at the bottom of the log-in page to restart I was successful at first Was able to do a reset and re-install windows my desktop came up and I thought all was good But when I restarted after downloading my Chrome browser which had been removed during the reset reinstall the same thing happened - after log-in no desktop icons etc I was going to do a Safe Mode again but the log-in page now has only two icons at the bottom instead of three Originally there was a connect to the internet icon a 'ease of access icon and a power icon with choice of restart shutdown sleep Now there are only two icons the connect amp ease of icons So I can't even get into Safe Mode now I went to the microsoft support page they have a minute wait for call-backs and similar wait for on-line chat I'm hoping someone has a suggestion I might mention I'm years old and not very well-versed in computers UPDATE Microsoft finally called me back - was on the phone with them for about hours they tried everything to get me into safe mode ctrl alt del ctrl shift esc win R etc Nothing After two minute holds where they sought help from a supervisor who had them try the 'unplug' computer see if it reboots to recovery screen No it didn't they finally decided to kick me up to a Level Engineer who will call me on Sunday Aug th around pm I'll come back and update this after Sunday but will also check back for any replies suggestions between now and then

I have a HP a6683w running Windows Vista. When you turn the computer on it comes up with the HP screen but then goes to a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left corner. You can select F10 setup and get it to come up and also the ESC key works but the F11 (system recovery) will not do anything as well as F8 (safe mode) also will not do anything. Any ideas for a fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The C drive may be corrupted or going bad. Try running CHKDSK by going to Computer and right-click on the C drive. Select Properties, tools, check now. Put a check in both boxes to set a disk check on the next start up. Any errors mean trouble

My desktop will load up to the windows logo and then go to a black screen. I believe it is a driver issue but I cannot get into windows to update them.
Things I have tried myself to resolve this issue.
- Use different VGA cable
- Use my onboard GPU to load into windows (problem persists)
- Load in through safe mode, on two different monitors (get message: input timing error)
Anybody ever deal with this? I can't seem to find any other options.

Hey I need immediate help!

It's my sis' previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:

Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2

Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help quick, she uses it a lot. Thank anybody so much..

Hello,I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs, unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. Hi thanks startup, death Black at Solved: all blue with began screen screen a of for checking Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen my question I haven t found an answer to my particular situation Dell xps m laptop w vista It all started with a blue screen w scrolling text after the fated restart The blue screen text said quot if this is the first time you ve seen this message quot and then comp restarted again showing the blue screen then restarted into windows repair mode after repair mode tried to fix Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen the problem comp restarted then the screen went black blank right after the little windows loading animation where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there s a small windows logo It all happened fast so there may have been steps I forgot but that s the jist of it Now screen always goes black blank during startup after the windows loading animation so I can t start windows in normal mode I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button so I m not imploding with fear ok I am Possible causes This occured right after installing vista updates that restart was when I saw the blue screen Also occured the restart after running a patch called quot Vista TCP IP and UAC AutoPatch quot I downloaded it from softpedia the developer was listed as defcon and their website listed was securevista net but the site is down I found this out after the problem occured The patch had lots of positive reviews and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to remove the limit of tcp connections which windows unnecessarily imposes Removing the limit supposedly increases P P filesharing speeds so it s a common approach to slow utorrent problems etc to patch the tcp sys file I have since quot unpatched quot it using the unpatch file which came with it but I m suspicious of the software developer now The patch originally disabled UAC user account control which is suspicious to me but I m not highly tech savy so I dunno if that s common or not I did also remove mcafee s security center I was busy I guess that was a mistake should always restart after each big change I apologize for the complication this creates in identifying the problem It s possible I did something else before the fatal restart if none of these three could be the culprit then I ll think harder about what that could be but for now these changes stand out in my mind I m assuming that windows repair mode s changes didn t cause this problem but I don t have any factual reason to believe that What could this be What can I do Thank you p s This is the last time I ever install software from a company that doesn t have an active website even if this wasn t the problem s cause nbsp

I have a Dell XPS desktop running Windows Home Premium -bit Last night cursor screen Black blinking with Windows load. won't 7 I was checking Hotmail and then I left the computer for about an hour Upon returning all I saw was a Windows 7 won't load. Black screen with blinking cursor black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner I Windows 7 won't load. Black screen with blinking cursor have no idea what happened while I was gone nor the sequence of events that occurred resulting in this black screen I have tried restarting the computer but I keep ending up with the black screen cursor Here s the sequence of events I experience when attempting to restart Press power button After a few seconds I see a circular Dell logo A blue status bar at bottom advances fully from left to right Also on this screen are instructions in the lower right for F Setup and F Boot Options Finally it ends up on a black screen with the blinking cursor in upper left corner Sometimes before the blinking cursor appears it will say keyboard failure but often times it doesn t say anything at all and just goes straight to the cursor I have tried both the F and F commands but honestly I have no idea what I m looking at nor what to do once I get into those options In the F command I did get into a Diagnostics screen It ran an extensive check called Dell ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment Service Tag GLQ FP which took several hours I let it run overnight It appeared to run a check on a list of Devices System Cables OS Booth Path CDROM Hard Drive Video Card CPU Fan Rear Fan Multi-processor Cache and Memory but it says no problems were found Also I m not sure if this is helpful information or not but a few years ago my friend installed a second hard drive in this machine If I recall correctly he set up the new hard drive as a slave drive and the original as the boot drive I think he set it up so I would save all my files and documents to the new slave drive while the original boot drive is used only to house the OS and all the system files etc So at this point I m desperately seeking help from the experts here I would greatly appreciate some assistance Thank you in advance Eric

Hello,

Hopefully I posted this in the right forum? Sorry, I'm kinda new to this...

So the log in page on my computer is not loading at all. There is no icon, no password, nothing, just the log in background screen. The screen also flashes a black screen really fast... When I put my computer to safe mode the same problem is there except the flashing occurs once every ~1 minute. Because of this problem I can't use my computer at all and I don't know what I should do next..

Computer:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Fujitsu Lifebook L Series

Also, yesterday night I turned off my computer to go to sleep, my computer was doing an automatic update so it was on for awhile while I slept.

Thanks guys!

A:Vista won't load (Black screen after windows loads)

What diagnostic test produced the error code?

I see the words "optical drive" and would think it is referring to the DVD drive. Place your Vista DVD into the DVD drive or invoke the recovery partition (usually F10 during boot-up) and run Vista System Repair.

I just replaced my power supply because after coming back from vacation my PC wouldn't boot. The new supply power works but I get to the XP load scree with the little progress bar and it just hangs there. I restored to last know good point and that did nothing and I did a system restore and neither seemed to help. I am able to start in safe mode but I'm not sure where to turn and I'm not sure what happened while I was gone. Any help with this?

Thanks

A:Solved: Windows XP hangs at black load screen

I was able to resolve this issue by going into Windows in Safemode. I went to my computer and right clicked the C drive and chose Properties/Tools/Error-Checking.

I check marked both options for Error fixing and then rebooted back to Safe Mode. It took a long time to do the error checking but when it finished it rebooted and Windows XP came back normally.

This is something to try for those with a similar issue.

I'm using I have a DELL4500S desktop, on startup it will not go to the login screen, the screen is just black with the cursor showing. I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging everything and restarting it. Nothing is working. When it first starts a pop up shows and says

"This Application has failed to start because SAMLIB.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I'm not sure what it's talking about and what to re install and I can't reinstall whatever it is because I can't get to the start menu.

Help? I don't know what to do :[

SAMLIB.dll is a security account manager dynamic linked lib. A repair install from the dvd should fix the problem unless you are infected with malware, or have a modified system

A:Windows 8 Black Screen At Startup

First of all unplug any USB devices you don't need especially hard drives. In bios turn off S.M.A.R.T HDD check at startup.

See what happens when you do that.

Hi,

Yesterday, I updated my windows 8.1, the process went well until the computer restarted but just after the windows logo disappeared from the screen, nothing happened and just the mouse pointer is visible on the screen. I tried startup repair from windows DVD, and other recovering options, but no result. I don't want to loose my installed apps and other files. is there any safe solution to this problem. thanks in advance

One other thing

I've just tried "startup repair" using windows installation DVD, but it seems that the startup process goes well, because in the log file (srtTrail.txt) it is mentionned that the startup process is ok.

I tried to "refresh my computer" but it asks me to agree with deleting all apps installed from disks, thing that i don't want for now.

I hope thess informations can help

Waiting for your advices.

Hello SKumar.
Have you changed/ added any hardware/software lately just before the problem started?

Do a System Restore to an earlier point.

Does it work?
If not, we are to some other things.

Following an unsuccessful attempt to install Adobe flash player (I'm not saying that caused the problem, it might be completely unrelated, but anyhow ...) when I start up I get the 'welcome' screen and then a permanent black screen with a cursor. I can get round this with the task manager but I'd rather it started up correctly in the first place. Any ideas, please?

Good morning,
always it happens that on the startup of windows 8.1 (and also when it was installed windows 8 before the windows 8.1 upgrade) after the republic of gamers logo and before the appearance of the lock screen, the monitor remains completely black for 5 minutes about (after that appears the lock screen and windows works again well). Usually Windows starts itself in 10 seconds about. During the black screen commands don't works. Can be the use of cc cleaner, that cleaning temporary files, creates this problem? I tried to reinstall the last version of the Nvidia display drivers but nothing changed. I took away all those unuseful programs from the windows startup. What can I do? Thanks and I'm sorry for my bad English.

A:Black screen on windows 8.1 startup

Hi, Welcome to Eight forums.

Issue could be mixed set of graphic card drivers. Your PC might be downloading the vendor's drivers and hardware drivers together. Also, windows makes a backup copy of the drivers and puts them into its driver store for you and keeps putting it back on your system if the driver is deleted. You need to go into control panel, disable the autoinstall of device drivers, uninstall the video driver, reboot, and install with the vendors setup program and reboot. Then enter control panel and re-enable the autoinstall of the drivers again.

When I start my windows 7 laptop, I get a black screen. It doesn't bring up the windows logo, errors, or options such as the boot menu. My Computer was working perfectly fine a few hours ago, but then my computer updated windows 7. After the update, my computer was still working. I noticed some lag, so i opened task manager and killed a few processes that i felt were unneeded.. (Maybe they were essential?) Then when i restarted my computer, this problem occured.

Please Help!

A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.

I complied and after the BIOS screen load, all i get was a black screen with this _ symbol and thats as far as it goes. Its like looking at a black picture with the symbol only. Anyone got any idea to solve this problem of mine please?

A:Black screen after BIOS load screen

If you have any USB devices other than keyboard and mouse, disconnect them, and do a hard shutdown by pressing the power switch down until your computer switches off.

Wait half a minute or so and try booting up again.

If that doesn't work, are you able to boot into Safe Mode?

Failing that you could try a repair install.

I tried to go to safe mode it shows the files loading, but it won't go to the windows screen. I have a installation cd for windows but some of the files won't load properly. i tried making a CD-RW copy on my reinstallation for windows, but my disk won't read 4 files.

If a repair install did not help, probably your best bet is a clean install. You can take the drive out to salvage any data you cherish that is not backed up.

You can get a reinstallation guide specific to your Dell here

I haven't installed any new hardware or software, and there was no BSOD. this just happened suddenly one day with no prior warning, and now I can't access my pictures and music and such.
I tried to repair from the Windows XP CD and it also just gets stuck and does nothing.

Hi doubt and welcome to TSF
Can you start in Safe Mode?
Tap F8 repeatedly whilst the computer is first starting and it will give you the option to start in Safe Mode. See if that is any quicker or if it's the same and post back.

Edit: Just seen that you have checked Safe Mode. Have you got your XP CD?

Hi...I have a compaq 5108US, windows xp pro.. recently installed a new hard drive, which worked fine for a few months. now when I try to turn on the computer, all I get is a black screen, with the compaq logo, and an immediate blinking cursor in the upper right hand corner. Tabbing f8 etc does not bring me to the safe mode option screen. I had the same problem a few months ago, of which I ended up having a new hard drive installed and that solved the problem. I wouldnt think a new hard drive would go bad that quick (if this is the problem this time). No beeps.. I also installed a new memory board, and it reads 504 memory ok, 164 memory size error, in addition to the black screen, compaq logo and blinking cursor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

after minutes of hanging in that weird startup screen considering whether to hard reboot or not it went into start repair still there now To make a long story short I suspected something wrong with my hard drive due to a software giving me an i o error after some research I am not knowledgable when it comes to computers I ran chkdsk when I woke up it was still running as it should be in the process of 'replacing bad clusters' for certain files so there was something wrong alright and was at After leaving my computer for ten minutes I found my computer had gone to a black screen then.. screen, weird 8 black then then ran chkdsk screen, startup hrs, and seeing as I was reluctant to do a hard reboot I chkdsk ran 8 hrs, then black screen, then weird startup screen, then.. waited it out and it moved to a windows safe mode startup screen but only the big cursor and standard background was present chkdsk ran 8 hrs, then black screen, then weird startup screen, then.. nothing else see attached picture After ten minutes it went to startup repair which has been running for the past half hour What has happened during the ten minutes I was away and chkdsk was still only at why did the subsequent events unfold as they did What can I do now

A:chkdsk ran 8 hrs, then black screen, then weird startup screen, then..

Hello Kayron can you still get into safe mode did you say? If so go in and run sfc /scannow

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

if that doesn't run then maybe you have a hardware problem.

I went to bed with some opera windows running, and MSN messenger turned on. When I woke up, even after turning on my moniter and going out of standby mode it stayed black. I rebooted, and it still stayed black. The monitor is on, the light is green, the black it gives me is a lighted black, not a monitor is off black. when I wait a while and type in my windows pass and hit enter it makes the logging in sound, but my screen is completely black.
I am running Win XP SP1.

I dont think it is a moniter problem because it turns on, goes green, and when I hit the menu buttons the menu pops up.
I am thinking of going and getting my HD wiped in hopes of it fixing the problem, but now that I know its a visual problem and not a botting problem Im not sure.
Any help'd be appreciated.
