Preferred Solution: Why not use plain english

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anybody know how to change the language of a scanner. We had to uninstall everything last year when our computer got a virus and the technician cleaned our hard drive. I reinstalled the software for the scanner and definitely selected English as the language we wanted but both times I tried it it came out in French.

We have worked out what words mean clear, preview and scan in French but cannot use any of the fine tuning buttons as we don't know what they say.

The Scanner is a Canoscan N656U and the programme is Canoscan Version 1.02

A:Cannon Scanner menu not in English

Use adda and remove to uninstall the scanner, then reinstall. That problem is not uncommon, but usually goes away. Use RegCleaner from www.majorgeeks.com to remove any remaining parts of the Scanner software, then reboot, then reinstall.
You might want to try downloading a later version of the Canoscan software.

Last night when I was using the power was cut off suddenly. And this morning, I turned the PC on to find that some black bars had appeared on my desktop. It'slike, the screen is behind a prison bar. I thought it was because of viruses at first. But then after scanning the pc, I restarted the pc and those bars are still there. The thing is, when i pressed printscreen, and intended to paste into MS paint, no bars was on the image. 5 black bars, even when I'm posting this thread, those bars prevent the eyesight.

So, it's because of my pc, viruses or anything else. Thanks for your help.

now 3 have turned into white bars, one half white half the background colour of NF's Sasuke skin, and one the colour of my wallpaper.

Then I unplugged the cable from the LCd display to the power, and the plugged it in again. I turned back to normal and then 5 white bars appeared again Somebody helps, pleae.Click to expand...

Hm... do you have any other monitors to test with? The fact that a direct print screen did not capture the "bars" has led me to believe that your graphics card is fine, but your monitor has suffered some fatal damage.

So, yeah, if you have another monitor, try to use that one. If the bars don't appear, then it's 100% certain that your monitor broke.

Hello guys,

My English teacher has given us two .MP3 files. They are small stories in English language. We should first write a summary about that then translate the whole text into our native language. It is an exercise!
If it was a text I could write a brief text about it and also translate it into our native language immediately. But the problem is that since the speed of the English-language narrator man is very quick I can't completely understand what he says.

I tried to find some apps to convert voice to text and installed some of them but no one worked properly!

Is there any idea how to convert those .MP3 English files to text?
It's an emergency and I'll be very thankful if someone can help me.

A:Difficulty with a .MP3 English file and Voice to text converter

I don't think there is any way of doing that. A trick that I've found useful in my efforts to learn a foreign language is to play the mp3 file in Apple's Quick Time Player (Free). You can alter the playback speed. There are several slow speed options. At the extreme it all sounds zombie like but things are much easier to follow.

I still am using IE 7 as my browser and use Windows XP. HELP!!!!

A:Incredimail Plain Text vs HTML

First, IncrediMail is eevil and you shouldn't use it! But you wouldn't listen to me anyway..

IM uses IE to render HTML, so it could be that your version does not work well with IE7. Do you have the latest version of IM installed?

Ok i can view chinese fonts correctly like webpages and emails, but when i download a chinese program which is originally chinese (simplified or traditional) all the characters are just garbage.
I have already installed fonts via control panel, but chinese programs just dont display correctly, is there a way to fix this.

A:How can i view chinese programs on a english xp computer correctly

As far as I know, there is nothing you can do about it aside from getting the Chinese version of XP.

I have heard that Vista will be able to switch the user interface to various languages, but XP (as far as I know) can not do this.

Note: the opposite in XP works fine. If you have Chinese XP, you can install ANY English software no problem. XP chinese version is built on top of the English version so all English software works. But the English version has no idea what Chinese characters are, and just messes them all up.

japanese and english operating system. dual boot?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I am a new born forum participant. i hope a fondly thought of child.
I am living in japan and just purchased a dynabook tw/670ls. naturally it has a japanese operating system, and though i would like to maintain it(my wife is japanese) i struggle with all the kanji and would like to install a dual english operating system. importantly i need to install english software on the computer and don`t want conflicts. is partitioning the hd and dual booting it the business? would microsoft be kind hearted enough to supply me with an english version of xp as i have a japanese version ?(perhaps a foolish question but worth a stab). how do i go about this migrain task? yes i am a novice, but once even dearly held kathy freeman crawled.

if you can help me, a thousand cheers.

Check around in BIOS for a Language setting and change that to English or whatever you need.

A:Normal English Fonts Replaced by Symbols

A computer that uses symbols means that the English fonts are missing and it is using symbols in place.
You can remove the HDD from the computer and attach it internally to a Desktop Computer, or via a USB Adapter, or put it in a USB Enclosure or Dock. Or boot the computer with an Ubuntu Live CD or USB. Here you can copy your files to the other computer or a USB HDD.
Once you are safely backed up, put the HDD back in the computer and run the OneKey Recovery System to set your computer back to Factory Defaults.

I have a Dell N4110, Windows 7 Home Premium, 640GB drive and 4 GB of Ram.
I am trying to set this computer up for an 11 year old Chinese boy and his Mom to use. I am giving them this computer as a gift as they are very poor and he needs a computer for school.
The boy needs to use the computer in English and the Mom needs to use the computer in Chinese (Simplified).
I was wondering if there is a way to do this with this Laptop. I was hoping to set it up so that when you turn on the computer it would boot to a screen where they could choose English or Chinese and then it would boot to that option.
Is it only possible to do this using Windows 7 Ultimate with the Multilingual User Interface from Microsoft downloadsand even then can it be done as I have described?

Thank you in advance.

I have been using Office 2007 since, well, 2007 or so. Suddenly, the font size I see when composing a plain text e-mail in Outlook is huge. This started around 2 weeks ago. At first I thought it was a problem with my Windows 7 Theme. But I reverted to the default theme and I still see this. I am baffled why this started happening and how to make it stop. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

If this is recent and you just can't find your way back to English, you could do a system restore back to a time that precedes the change to Japanese.

I am editing and revising documents that need to be in English (Australian).
I am in Australia, working for an Australian company that has set the default language set accordingly by default:

The Control Panel settings for language and keyboard seem correct (English-Australian and Us keyboard):

There was a thread on this forum with useful advice related to this topic here:
permanently-changing-default-language-english-uk:

The conclusion from Kari, who seemed to have the most in depth knowledge (and performed the most testing) was that the Windows input language overrides the Office settings (not much use for the Office setting!?).

That said, it would seem that my system is in compliance with the best advice from that thread. However,
I keep getting the automatic spell check flagging words as misspelled according to the US dictionary.

I have selected the entire document (Ctrl-a) and set the proofing language to English(Australian) several times, but the problem keeps recurring.

Any ideas why?

A:Word 2010 Proofing language keeps reverting to English (US)

Aha!
I may have solved my own problem. I went back to take a snapshot of the proofing language setting:

Then I realised I have probably just been selecting OK instead of "Set as Default" !

If I do that:

the message would seem to suggest that the fault may be with my NORMAL template,
and that it will be fixed if I click Yes.

So, I've done that, I will see if the problem goes away ....

That said, it seems unlikely this is the problem. Why would the current document revert to the NORMAL template settings for content revised/added? Wouldn't it revert to the Office (or apparently maybe Windows) default?

Or, if there is a setting associated with the NORMAL template, is this setting carried forward into the document when it is created? This seems possible, and more plausible that that the document would keep reverting to a language from the NORMAL template .... but if so, where is that setting adjusted?

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

I am willing to help but I do not read French. Here Outlook is in the French language. All I need to do, if possible, is switch to English (Outlook) make the changes / test the changes/ and revert back to French (Outlook).

Is there an uncomplicated non damaging method to do this?

I have obtained a license code through dreamspark and I want to install it on my new computer with it. They have provided the download steps but unfortunately the SecureDownloadManager (SDM) can't work because of the active scripting (I tried the instructions given, but no luck). So I tried finding online ISOs download site and saw this website (LINK REMOVED).

Has anyone downloaded and installed windows from this site before? I want to verify its credibility here to see if other members have downloaded from the website before. Besides that, is the "Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1 32/64-bit (English) - DreamSpark" and "Windows 7 Professional x64 OEM (Includes SP1)" editions are the same?

Thanks for your time!

Computer (Toshiba laptop) recently crashed and Windows 8.1 was reinstalled in France.
Unfortunately, all the MS Office commands on Ribbons (Excel, Word) are now in French!
I have tried all the recommended advice (forums, Microsoft) but in vain
First checked Windows has "English" as default language
Then, in Word under"Options Word" then "Standard" under "Parametres linguistiqes", under"Langue d'edition principale", "Anglais" is the only language shown
Any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks

You will basically get with this the same search results as with Google Search ..... I never understood why something like this is need it, but there might be a few out there that like this product. And as long as they don't start bundle this program with other installers, then its fine.

FYI, this product is basically a browser extension, so its easy to remove.. (that's a plus)

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the German editions of Smart Security, NOD32 and Multi-Device Security include English language options? or if the licence keys will activate installations (within the EU) using an English language installer?

Thanks

A:ESET 2015 German editions English language option?

I've tried on my VM to install one of the offline installer of ESET on other languages.

So specifically you need to choose an appropriate language before you install cause there's no already an option to change unless use Live Installer.

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3552

License key will work at any multi language part of ESET, so if you purchase it on EU then it should be valid since its a language you are choosing though,

A couple of years ago I installed the Chinese language pack for visiting relatives and as I can't read Chinese they turned the Sony Viao (Win 8.1) back to English upon their departure. I think I was resetting the time (who knows?) and now everything is back to Chinese making it impossible to navigate. I have to guess at everything and as yet have been unable to get back to the page where one changes the language. Even if I could figure it out, it would still be in Chinese. Grrrr!

I've been searching for weeks looking for screen shots to no avail. Any idea on how to retrace my steps and undo my foolishness? Comments, suggestions, and advise greatly appreciated. Snide comments as to my stupidity should be restricted. My wife has already hidden the ax.

Hello, I am considering to buy a Surface Pro 4. If I buy the English version of the machine and add the Japanese language pack, can I run the Japanese version of software? Will that be fully compatible? Some of the filenames are in Japanese. Same question but in the case of buying a Windows 10 installation disk and install it on a Mac running bootcamp.

What are the differences between English version of Windows 10 + Japanese language pack vs. Japanese version of Windows 10 ?

I would like to know if I can install and run Japanese applications on an English-based version of Windows 10. This was not possible on any version up to and including Windows 8. The best one would hope for was to change the default language of menus, etc.
For example, in Win 8, if I have installed the English version, I cannot install the Japanese version of InDesign, which has many features not available in the English version of the program. When I tried installing the English InDesign on a Japanese Windows 7, it didn't take either.
The people at Dell Japan wrote today that all I have to do in their pre-installed Japanese version of Win 10 is go to the "language and region settings", but surely this cannot be right. I have hunted through the Windows page but came up empty-handed.
Can anyone show me where to find a definitive answer to this question? Thanks (in advance.)

A:Japanese applications on English Windows 10 and vice-versa

Have you tried to load the Japanese Language Pack (Control Panel -> Languages, Add Language), set your time/date settings to Japanese and your region to Japan? I think this last one, your region, is what makes the version install or not. If you have done all these and changed the default display language to Japanese, you should be able to install the Japanese version without any issue. To make sure you have to e-mail Adobe. Here in Greece, we can install the English version and then install the Greek Language Pack if we want Greek interface. I'm not aware though of any program requiring a specific Windows language to install. My problems usually arise from legacy (non-Unicode) programs that try to display Greek and display garbage because the language for non-Unicode programs (in Regional Settings) is set to English US rather than Greek. Once we change it to Greek and restart all legacy programs display correctly in Greek. The only advantage using a Greek Windows version is that all settings are automatically set to Greek, so a novice user has nothing to worry about. But in earlier Windows there were some compatibility bugs in the Greek version that were not in the English version. I remember some Greek programs did not display correctly in the Greek version (probably due to incorrect font settings) and displayed fine in the English version after we had changed the language for non-Unicode programs to Greek! So some of us more advanced users often avoided the Greek version and used English instead. Also all new Windows versions came first in English and the Greek version was out one or two months later, we just couldn't wait, so we used the English version. Windows 8 and 10 are the exceptions.

I can change language settings once operating system is in English....

But how to change it when the language is NOT English TO English.

I can do this by looking at icons and guessing my way around, but it's a pain in the ass...

Isn't there a way to do this via command prompt?

Get straight to the point and change it to English bypassing all drop downs and GUI in foreign language?

Hi

As far as I know the Win 7 Home Premium was preinstalled on this notebook.
The OS language cannot be changed in Home Premium version.
Only the Enterprise and Ultimate editions support the Multilanguage pack.

So wither you would install a English version of the Win 7 Home Edition on your W100 or you would upgrade the Home Premium to Enterprise or Ultimate version and then you would install the English language pack

I have since bought an upgrade (Windows Anytime) from Win7 Home to Win 7 Ultimate, to get additional language support. I now got english in (most) system menues, but the Toshiba specific applications still use german, even though I have removed/reinstalled and choosen english language during the installation process. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

And no, I don't understand german language...

Hi all you savvy experts,

I have managed to change most of the language options to English under the control panel, but the core of windows is still Arabic, I see this with the welcome message in the beginning and some install/uninstall and error messages.

After contacting Microsoft support, they said that I should contact the manufacturer (Toshiba) and ask for a new OS in English.

Can anyone help me?

Hi

As far as I know you have two options:
1/try to order original recovery installation disc on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
2/you must install own OS version using original Microsoft installation disc

If you use option 2 you must buy Microsoft disc and pay valid licence for it. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba download page http://www.toshibamea.com/en/Download-Files

Hi everybody!

Thank you for your assistance!

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

Hey,

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

DST is a HDD failure, reinstalling the OS won't help until after you've replaced the HDD. After which point, yes, you should be able to just use an english XP CD to reinstall the OS.

Hi and welcome to TSF

You can only change some bits of XP into English via the Regional and Language options control panel.

If you want everything in English, then you must buy an English version of Windows XP, you cannot change Polish version into English as there are no English components included.

I have an ASUS EEE PC 1005HA, I suppose to get the English xp version.

I was given wrongly the Chinese xp version, without the English version being loaded up.

I have the ASUS 1005HA support English version DVD, but how do I get it working, now!

(I did follow some of the suggestions made in some forums regarding that, but still I cant get it working).

Any useful infos will be very much appreciated.

Hello. My computer runs on Windows XP SP2 with Greek as regional option language. It displays English just fine but when I run programs which use non English characters (German or French dictionaries for example) I see some greek characters instead of the ones that should be displayed. I know that changing the regional option language solves the probrem but then I can't read greek. Is there a way to keep greek and still be able to
read non english characters? Thank you.

A:Non English Characters displaying problem

i think you will need to install the greek language software and change the regional settings. i will see what i can do.

Hi.

I have installed a English Win XP Home on a computer. Is there anyway to change this to Russian? I got a DVD with the Win XP Home that would allow me to make it Lithuanian. But I would rather make it Russian.

How can I do this? The guy in the store made it sound so easy. "You just install English and then you can install whatever language upon that afterwards."

Please help.

I've been in the process of wiping off my computer a trojan(Nagging tray icon warning of adware and click to download, plus email going out from my system I don't write) since 7/20/08 and I think I may have it all carved out. However in going thru my registry I just came across the following Keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\x?
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1220945662-688789844-854245398-1003\x?

Both with the following value:
MachineID Reg_Binary 3e fe fa cc 63 72 9d 00

Any idea what this is and if it's safe to delete them?

I've already run Kaspersky Online(37 hours!), SpyBot, and Ad-Aware2008

Hello Mark

Well, I don`t have these keys in my registry.

You have 2 options
1. Visit the HijackThis Log help form and maybe they will show up in a log.If you want to go down that road
Please read this article? "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.

2. Back up the keys and then delete them. If you have problems you can put them back.

Is it possible to do or would he have to find a French XP cd?

Hi,
Randomly, several times per day, I get this popup error message:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"
(see attached picture of error message)

I hit debug or close. The popup disappears, but appears again later. No pattern.

Q: I have tried several ways to fix this error, except uninstalling/reinistalling windows explorer (explorer.exe). Please advise if I am able to do so without blowing up my PC :(

OS: Windows XP Pro

I have more details on the error message if requested. Thanks for any help.

A:English with Czech - Help!

Hi

Have you tried a System Restore to a restore point from before your language troubles started? If not, try that.

I'd be surprised if it isn't malware-related. It sounds like your laptop is fairly new - so you have the Dell restore options as well.

I'd double & triple check the malware angle -- try an online scanner (Ewido, Panda, HouseCall[TrendMicro], Symantec, etc...) to be sure. If you haven't anti-spyware apps running, try SpyBot & AdAware as an effective combo - I recommend using the "Immunize" function of SpyBot whenever possible. The Windows XP firewall isn't very good at blocking attacks, if it's your only firewall, I recommend moving to stronger protection from a more robust firewall such as ZoneAlarm or Sunbelt/Kerio (both have free-for-personal-use versions).

If it turns out that you have a particularly messy infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist here at the Tech Support Forums http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968

Best of luck

A:Changing input languages: English/Chinese

Hello lansehudie, Welcome to TSF!

This is what I think you are trying to achieve....

It would be wise to print these instructions for future reference.

Please Note: These instructions presume that the "Classic View" is being used in the Control Panel.

1: Go, Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced > scroll down and tick the box for the specific language you need to install.
(You will need to insert the Windows? XP SP2 CD to install the selected fonts.)

2: Once the fonts are installed, click on Languages > Details > Add > now repeat the selection of the particular language required > OK.

3: Next, click Key Settings > create a keyboard shortcut to alternate between the two languages > Apply > OK.

Cancel out of the Control Panel; remove the CD and reboot the computer, for the changes to take effect.

This should now give you an "English" Keyboard with the alternative of "Chinese" Language options, with the use of the Keyboard Shortcut that has been created.

Please post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Hello and Welcome to TSF

You can try changing windows default language

The Regional options will change language but will not change the XP's fundamental menus, windows, start menu. You may have to buy the English version of Windows XP if you want it all in English, Windows itself is not multi-lingual, it comes in specific language versions. Did you recieve any cds when purchasing this?

Try this....

Go Start > Control Panel > Classic View > Regional Settings and Language > you should be able to alter the language to English [Australia: UK: US etc.].

Once you have completed the adjustments, you might have to reboot the computer for them to take effect.

Thanks.

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.
