I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I see the a firmware requirement for "UEFI 2.3.1" and "Secure Boot Enabled". I'm guessing this will limit backward compatibility to older machines.

I don't know anything about UEFI (other than brief mentions hear and there) or how to check which version my machine has.
Tell me, why "Secure Boot Enabled" needs to be a requirement.

Way too much "editions" by the way it looks, at least there's only 2 consumer editions like with win 8.

The education version sounds very exciting, hopefully this will allow schools who continue to downgrade pc's that already have win 7 installed to xp (like my high school, luckily I have graduated last year so the ancient windows isn't in my system) or schools who don't have enough money in their tech budget to upgrade or update the (ageing) computer systems.

Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

Not a surprising number, considering instability + performance (and security) issues with many many android sets.

A:Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

I kindof just can't wrap my head around those numbers though. The Feature Phone to Smartphone upgrades are all great! But I wonder what kind of Android handsets the WP8 users are coming from. For instance I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Ace (Crappy Android Phone) to an "Ativ S" (ridicilously cheap top of the line WP8 Phone). That said though, I really regret doing so because this far WP8 has been pretty much only a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. And I think anyone coming from a proper Android handset will be equally if not more disappointed then what I am.

Hardware wise my Ativ S is absolutely phenomenal value for the money. But decisions such as locking the Search button to "Bing Only" (who the **** uses bing over google, seriously?) or not supporting swiping keyboards is just really killing it.

I'm not saying it's all bad. I'm likely to keep my Ativ S for a couple of years and it serves me very well for the most importaint tasks, such as calendar usage/todo lists/notes/email/photos and all of that. But with the direction microsoft are taking I think it's really quite unlikely that I will ever buy another windows phone handset.

It's kindof like I have a really good phone, and I know it's really good. But I JUST DON'T LIKE IT.

Your best option may be to open device manager (with device connected) and uninstall any related device, making sure the 'Delete driver software for this device' is checked.Once you have done this, unplug your device, uninstall WMDC 6.1 and reboot your machine. Then follow the instruction on my first reply, this should sort it for you.If anyone is helpfull, please click the 'Vote as helpfull' icon.

Microsoft is planning to compel organizations to install updates to Windows 10 by a certain period of time.
Failure to do so will risk not getting future security updates to the operating system, in some cases. That's the scenario emerging for organizations adopting the so-called "current branch for business" (CBB) update model for Windows 10 that has been proposed by Microsoft.
Organizations adopting the CBB model will have "eight months" to apply Windows 10 updates. Should that period lapse without the update being applied, those organizations will not get future security updates for the OS. This eight-month deadline was mentioned by Helen Harmetz, a Microsoft senior product marketing manager, in a briefing for partners called " Staying Current with Windows."

https://redmondmag.com/articles/2015...indows-10.aspx

A:Microsoft Planning Strict Update Requirements When Windows 10 Arrives

What rules would apply in the following scenarios: -

Scenario 1. A new computer is purchased but the OS was installed on the HDD more than 8 months prior to the purchase.

Scenario 2. More than 8 months after purchase a computer is reverted to a "factory state" using a standard process provided by the manufacturer.

In both the above instances there would be any number of updates that would have passed their 8-month "use by" date.

It would be easier to update your My System Specs at the bottom of your post and then we could just give you some idea of what to expect.

So far people have been installing with fairly low specs but I would recommend at least Pentium 4 with at least 1Gig of memory and a Graphics card that supports DX10 to get the full Aero effects although it's not necessary to run Windows 7.

I was wondering about putting the Google OS on it and then putting a wifi stick thing in the back so it could be used for the internet.
The computer has 128MB of RAM, not sure about the processor, definitely less than 1GHz probably less than 500MHz. I think it is 16bit. I don't know what make the computer is, I think it was built by a local company.

That's a matter of individual opinion but I would say you want a Intel Core 2Duo cpu and since you will no doubt have to have Windows Vista you want at least 2 gb ram and minimum 100 Gb hard drive ( as OS could be 25 gb) and a dvd-burner ( Vista is on a dvd). I only like HP or the Dell Small Business Division ( they still give you software cd's).

Microsoft today released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 PCs and phones, bringing the build number to 10586.494.

KB3172985 is a bit of a mystery at the moment, as Microsoft hasn't published a changelog for either version. Typically, the PC release notes would be published to the Windows 10 Update History page, which isn't currently showing anything new.

The Mobile version is always a bit of a jumble, the release notes sometimes showing up in Microsoft's Answers forum and occasionally, in the Feedback Hub. Perhaps most interesting is that the changelog for phones is almost never available at the time that the update is offered.

The last cumulative update that we saw was 10586.454 in the Release Preview ring. No Release Preview update has ever made it to the Production ring, so the last public update was 10586.420.

A:Hardware Firewall that meets HIPAA reportability requirements

Hello all,

I manage an IT company that specializes in Dental Technology.  We provide HIPAA compliant data security, and are a full service MSP in the Bay Area.

We recently have hired outside HIPAA compliance experts to come into our clients as a third party consultation, in order to address their clerical needs and policy & procedure booklets (we supply the HIPAA compliant solutions on the network, but don't address policies/procedures outside of the network).

Recently, one of our offices proposed to us that we supply them a hardware firewall, which is something that we have always avoided by using Cisco businessclass router/firewalls.  We agree, for this particular office, that a hardware firewall should be in place, since it is one of our larger clients (40+ PC's).

We are looking for a firewall which will provide HIPAA-required audit trails of any breach attempt, malware infection, traffic data, and also to provide packet filtering.

Long story short - we are all totally new to firewalls, and could use any suggestions of companies and models to look into.

Thank you,

Dan

We primarily support Dental offices. I ALWAYS use Sonicwall: selections are based on their size and needs. Just go to this website and pick what best fits your needs:

http://www.sonicwall.com/us/en/

We normally go with the TZ Series.

Also their AP's are pain in the buttox so for that reason for AP's I usually install these:

The Windows phone is a more than capable smartphone with a quick, smooth, intuitive interface. My Nokia Icon only lacks some current apps, only available on IOS and Android. On my Android phone I only have about 25 apps that I consider of functional value, but on the Icon, it's a mixed bag of full versions, pared down versions, 3rd party paid versions, or no app at all. I prefer the windows phone over the Samsung or Moto mobile phones I have access to but the app gap is becoming too difficult to deal with. Microsoft might think about creating their own apps to fill the gap and end the argument. Start with the apps linking with interfaces in new cars, fitness bands, music systems, and other smart devices/appliances like thermostats, people are most like to use on a daily basis.

I'm trying to figure out a problem on a 1,5 Ghz P4, 768MB RAM, Gforce 2 MX 64MB, 5400 HDD - Computer.

Is it possible that the graphic adapter is too old to display videos e.g. from YouTube fluently. The driver is up to date and the internet speed is sufficient.
CPU is going up to 100% usage.
My actual problem is that I wanna be sure it's worth to try a reinstall of Windows on this computer, because I don't know what the previous technician did to that pc or the users.
The hardware should comply to the minimum requirements, or?

Another? So soon? This is just about the worst time google could release the details, just after one patch tuesday so that chance for ms to fix this is about a month away.
There is wisdom in google using the threat of "we're going to reveal it in 90 days" to make other companies hurry up but they could atleast have only revealed the overall description of the vulnerability rather than full technical details that will end up acting as a "how to" guide for criminals.

I keep getting this error - Couldn't install. We'll try again later - The error code is 0x80073CF6. Please note, excel app was also throwing the same error but upon trying 3-4 times, it got installed. But, word is not installing at all - have tried installing at least a 100 times. I know a hard reset would solve this problem for me but I am not ready for that yet! Thanks!

Google and Microsoft are butting heads over the disclosure of vulnerabilities On Monday Google revealed a critical flaw in Windows after it exploited flaw being Windows by Micros hackers, angering reveals Google gave Microsoft a ten-day window Google reveals Windows flaw being exploited by hackers, angering Micros to warn the public about it Google posted about the zero-day vulnerability on its security blog saying Microsoft had yet to publish a fix or issue an advisory about the software flaw This vulnerability is particularly serious because we know it is being actively exploited Google said It lets hackers exploit a bug in the Windows kernel via a win k sys system call to bypass the security sandbox The search giant originally told Microsoft about the problem days ago on Oct It waited to say anything about it publicly so Microsoft could fix the problem first But Google has a strict policy of giving vendors only seven days to either publish a patch or issue a warning about a flaw Seven days is an aggressive timeline and may be too short for some vendors to update their products Google said in a blog post in But it should be enough time to publish advice about possible mitigations Article

Hi guys. I have windows updates set to manual. Yesterday i checked for updates  and found more that 10 important updates. I selected all for installing. I recieved two _80070103  error
messages for  "Microsoft - Pointing Drawing - Microsoft Hardware USB Mouse" and "Microsoft - Keyboard, Other hardware - Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard" updates. I looked at update history and found out 8 similiar update failures !
I have windows 8.1 and i use wireless keyboard and mouse.  Shall i just unistall that failed updates or it might affect my mouse and keyboard performance? Thank you!

A:microsoft - pointing drawing - microsoft hardware usb mouse download fail.

Hi Alona,
If you receive Windows Update error 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that might be less compatible than one you already have installed.

So, if you did not encounter any performance issue about mouse and keyboard before, you can hide these updates and don't install them again.

My VGA not support "Hardware T&L "requirements. I want play "Resident Evil 4" this games shows it wants "Hardware T&L " VGA requirements, so that mean i can't ply this game?

A:Is it essential "Hardware T&L "requirements

On-board graphics often dont support todays higher demand games. Go to the manufacturer and determine the minimum requirements for the game and see if your chipset supports them I doubt that they will.

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Mouse as found here:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CKNJBX2

It doesn't work on my Windows 8.1 Pro machine (desktop) but works fine on my Windows 10 machine (laptop).

I've tried various USB ports but no joy.

I've installed StartIsBack (StartIsBack: real start menu for Windows 8 and Windows 10) so that may have something to do with it.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm using Windows vista 32bit on a Dell Studio 15 laptop. I have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500. I have plugged the nano receiver into my USB port and installed the driver but the mouse does not work at all. It does not respond if I move my mouse or click on any buttons. I have bluetooth enabled on my laptop but there is no button on the mouse or nano receiver to sync it to the laptop. I've searched and searched on the internet to try and find an answer but I can't see anything. Can anyone help please?

A:Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 help.

"installed the driver but the mouse does not work at all"

The 3500 mouse does not need a driver installing, it's built into Windows.
You are probably referring to the "Intellipoint" software which is required only for the magnifier function & is optional.

"I have bluetooth enabled on my laptop but there is no button on the mouse or nano receiver to sync it to the laptop"

The 3500 doesn't use Bluetooth technology. It's wireless but not Bluetooth.
No "sync" button is provided as it syncs automatically with the nano-receiver.
Turn Bluetooth off as it may be interfering with the mouse.

One last check, there's an on/off slider on the base of the mouse, plus it needs two batteries of course.

Just building myself a new pc, started with an ASUS k8v-se deluxe mobo and was wondering if a Mobile AMD 64 3400+ socket 754 would be compatible.
I currently have a amd xp3000+, 160Gb sata, 1024 ddr 400, 256 6800Gt . But i think i need a better cpu for gaming purposes. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Mobile AMD Cpu in a desktop?

Mobile AMD CPU

I have a mobile AMD CPU in my desktop, it does not read the correct speed but functions OK. I only use this machine to test software that I aquire over the internet, so speed is really not an issue. However, I have an identical machine using the same speed AMD CPU but is not a mobile processor, it reads correct speed during boot-up and performs much better. I would stay away from the mobile processors for desktop machines. The mobile processors are designed to run at variable speeds according to the power source.
Also, the motherboard you have is a Socket 462 and the AMD 64 processors are Socket 754 or 939. The 64 bit processor is incompatible with your current motherboard.

Hmmm. Can't believe what you read nowadays anymore. I bought a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 to replace an ailing optical laser mouse that's on its last legs, and on the package it said that one "AA" battery would last for one entire year without replacing. What it meant was, it would have took until the next spring before it's time to replace the battery.

Apparently, the mouse doesn't think like that, it appears, and when I was looking down at it, there was a red warning light indicating that the single battery had already been exhausted from use. Between surfing the web and playing some Team Fortress 2 now and then this is more than just a "mobile" mouse.

A:Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 - Low Battery Already?

I have never use that mouse but the first thing I would do is try another battery. Make a note of the date installed and go from their. At the present time I have 4 Microsoft battery powered mice with no problems. Many years ago I did have a Microsoft mouse that eat batteries like a puppy eating pork chops. I just through the dam thing away but you might be able to RMA yours. I have been reading reviews and most people complain about is it gets hot with heavy use. I really don't know how that could happen.

So naturally I went for Microsoft hardware (only ones that never broke, heh, two year record on keyboard), and got a Mobile Mouse 3000. It worked perfectly the 1st day I got it, but today I seem to be getting cursor lag and movement delay from time to time (the intervals aren't even).

It happens in every single application. Games, desktop, internet browser, etc...

I have a two year warranty but Romanians get kinda' edgy when it comes to warranty, I'd rather keep that as a last resort. Could it be software related? Something I can fix myself? I searched for a driver on Microsoft Hardware but I couldn't find one. Also tried changing the cursor sensitivity from Control Panel...

What else umm... the battery is Duracell, came included with the product. And that's pretty much it... didn't smash it against the wall or anything (yet).

Any ideas?

I want to upgrade my processor again, to a 3.06 ghz, as they take advantage of hyper-threading. I have 478 socket that currently houses a P4 2.66/533.

I saw some cheap Mobile Pentium 4 3.06ghz processors that were also 478 pin/533 FSB, but they were for laptops. I know that these were designed to use less power, but can these actually be installed on desktops. If so, would I gain any benefit or I am actually going backwards, as they are a scaled down version of a P4.

Hi KeyGee and welcome to Eightforums,

It appears you are running a 'normal' version of Windows 8 on your desktop. You'll need the PRO version in order to enable remote access.

Sorry, but without buying an upgrade you won't be able to remote connect through your iPhone.

Hi All.

My computer had all of the MS updates avaliable last week and then today alerted me to a new set of 9 to install. If I click OK and install them my computer will not boot and the recovery console will not fix it.
The only way I am able to get my computer to work again is to restore it prior to updating these files.
I have took a screenshot of the update alert and wondered if anyone can suggest which of these might be causing the problem or if their are any known problems with them or in fact weather I need them at all.

Thanks in advance.

A:New set of 9 Microsoft Updates Crash Windows 7 64 Bit Desktop

Your best bet is to deselect them all first.

When you've done that highlight them one at a time and check the description on the right-hand side of the screen.

If you feel you don't want any of them just right-click the appropriate one then choose Hide. You won't get offered it again.

If there are any you feel you do need install them one at a time rather than all at once. Doing this should highlight which one is causing you problems.

If you can pin it down it's best to let Microsoft know as well so that they can do something about it too.

You might also want to download and run the System Updates Readiness Tool (SURT): http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...s.aspx?id=3132

You haven't said whether you're using 32-bit Windows or 64-bit, so you'll need to download either the 32-bit version of SURT or the 64-bit version depending which is applicable to your system.

It will athough you may need a BI0S Flash. The thing with Mobile CPUs is that they lack a heat speader so you will have to modify your fan.99.9 of fans will need to be modified or whatever type cooling device you use.

Is it doable yes. Average bob no. I had to use a grinder to cut down my plastic bracet (socket 754) for my media pc in the living room.
