loading settings/saving settings infinate loop

Q: loading settings/saving settings infinate loop

on both of my machines today i booted up and got stuck in that trap...loading settings...saving settings, until i got po'd enough to format em both. but that is like shootin a mosqioto with a shotgun. what causes this ( its not the first time) and how can i get around it...i tried safe mode but got the same routine when i tried to logon as admin, i tried a system repair with no help. i am usin xp lame oops xp home, i have 9 diferent malware clients and run most of them several times per day so i dont think it was malware. i did 'mess with' userinit, i just unchecked it so it wouldnt be part of the startup process... thats the only weird thing i did. any suggestions as to how to avoid/get around this prob next time it occurs? tkz

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My brother's computer does exactly what the title of this thread says,no matter what mode he uses to boot up. He was restarting his computer after running Ad-aware. Now he cant get past the logon screen because it immediately saves his settings and returns to the logon screen. Happens in safe mode as well.

Thank you for any help.

Hello Guys, I seem to be having a problem with my HP Pavilion Laptop, I can't seem to get Windows 7 to boot up. I tried all the methods , including the F8 option where it displays more options , I still can't get it to boot up. I know this is a common problem , now before it reboots it displays the blue screen error messages. Is there a way this situation can be fixed?, and unfortunately I don't have the Windows 7 repair disk as well.

Here is an example from a video I found on youtube

I have read and reread your question. Honestly I don't understand what your situation is. I could guess bit I don't wanna guess. Since your graphics processor is AGP supported, I'm not sure why you would be going into 'setup' and making 'pci' adjustments. Some setup (bios) pages ask you what type of slot supports your installed graphics card. In your case, 'AGP' would be the selection. Please restate your problems (if it's important enough to you). Good Luck.

Hi guys,
This is my first post, this problem is doing my head in!!!!!!
I know that this has been posted before but its slightly diff.....
My friend has a sony s28gp laptop from HK about 2 years ago.
He is now getting this infinate bsod loop.
He put in the sony vaio recovery cd, and therefore rebuilt the laptop completely, i have seen that this is due to a graphics driver problem or to change the pci to pci bridge, but i cannot get into safe mode because windows hasnt finished installing.............(it needed to reboot to finish, but got the bsod). i have set the bios to all defaults... i am now thinking hardware????? if so i dont know where the graphics card would be, i have opened the machine but havnt got a clue!!!!!
any ideas will be very very much appreciated!

I had the ati2dvag blue screen error so I tryed re-installing drivers and few other solutions I found on here nothing worked and now when I start up my computer random vertical lines appear. And it sounds like the computer is booting up but the display freezes with all these random colored lines. It kind of reminds me of when your old Nintendo would freeze up or not work. Any help THANK YOU.

Someone else here may be able to help you more. It seems to me like your video card is faulty. Is your video on board or is it a pci card. Not sure if you have a laptop or desktop. Anyone here in order to help you would need more info. All I can say is if it is your video card you need to get one somewhere to test it.

I'm running Windows XP Home, 2002 edition on a Dell. About once a week for the past month I get locked up and have to do a cold boot. I then get a message that says I'm stuck in an infinate loop. The details look like this: wpfb_nv4_disp
STOP 0x000000EA (0X82C00B30, 0X82C57100, 0XF8AE9CBC, 0X00000001).
The system then clears itself and I do another cold boot.
Is this something I need to worry about. Should I take the tower in for service?

I downloaded a corrupt file and my computer went crazy and so I shut it off and now it keeps going through the start up repair over and over. It'll say that it's rapaired and it will restart but then it will go straight back into doing it over and over. Can someone please answer this quickly because finals are next week and I have unfinished papers and websites and animations on my computer that need to be handed in pronto. Thanks in advance.

By the way, F8 does not get me into the advanced boot options. I also see no way to get into safe mood.

My computer has been acting funny in that wireless connection service has to be manually started every time I restart. In addition my screensaver has to be reset to ten minutes from one minute.

I have Malwarebytes up to date so I don't think it's spyware. Norton 360 is up to date as well.
Network Magic doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

In a nutshell my service for wireless was hi jacked and is set to automatic, but it is not. Then my screen is dead locked on letting me watch something for a minute. I thought vlc would disable the screensaver, but no luck.

Something seems strange about my computer. Windows doesn't seem to be saving any of my settings. For example: when I type in a new web address for my homepage in IE, it only saves it for about two more opens of IE, then reverts back to what it was before. It will never stay the way I put it. Also, in Microsoft Outlook, when I type in my password and click "save my password", it only saves it until I open up Outlook again. So if I close outlook, the next time I open it I have to re-enter my password. It does this with many programs, what should I do?

Maybe this thread is one for the games forum... but if you go into your specific games directory on your hard drive, there likely will be a folder in there of saved games that you can copy to a cd. But all this may depend on a specific game you have in mind- If thats of no use, ask a moderator here to move this thread to the Games forum, and add some more details of your enquiry.

Try starting the program by clicking on "Test the program" in the compatibility mode wizard. (Right click on the exe, select Troubleshoot compatibility).

Then (after having pressed "Test the program"), click "Next" and It then asks you if it worked, say "yes, save these settings" and it will save the compatibility mode settings.

A:Windows not saving settings

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please do this. Click here: to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

Hi all,

My laptop is having problems! In work I log onto a domain, and up until around a month ago everything was when I log onto the domain my profile can't be found and a temporary one is created every time I log on. The laptop takes about 15 mins to do this. Now I can access all my documents on the server etc, but it doesn't seem to recognise my profile.

When I use a different machine to log on to the domain it's fine, and my profile comes up as normal.

I also use the laptop at home where I log onto the machine itself, and it's completely fine also.

I decided to run a registry cleaning programme a couple of nights ago without setting a system restore point which may be one of the dumber decisions that I ve made as of late Right now Windows XP is not saving my Windows my isn't saving settings settings and acting Windows isn't saving my settings rather peculiar In particular -When I boot up it does not remember to display the Quick Launch bar I have to put it on manually everytime -My folder toolbar settings are never saved - when I click on My Computer I want the quot Address Bar quot toolbar to always show As soon as I click off My Computer the setting is forgotten and the address bar is gone -When I boot up my desktop icons are arranged by name and not in the custom arrangement that I created for them -Most frustratingly once I arrange my desktop icons back into the order I want and align them by grid they instantly revert back to the old quot by name quot settings as soon as I make any kind of application change I m not sure I described this well so I ll give an example Go into My Computer click on Tools Folder Options View If I check any box or make any change and hit quot apply quot all of the icons revert back to the by name order and my align by grid setting is completely forgotten I have tried restoring my system to a variety of points within the last week but I have had no success whenever I try Windows XP gives me an error message upon booting up I am quite certain that this problem is somehow linked to the registry alterations I made a couple of days ago but have no way of knowing for certain It appears that my Windows XP is locked into a particular brand of settings that I do not want But I could be quite incorrect about this I hope have described this well enough that someone can come along and help If anyone has any ideas please do let me know Thanks Best Jay nbsp

I am using Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. The system has been running unchanged (except for regular updates from Microsoft) for several years and thus collected a lot of "garbage"and I wish to reinstall it from scratch.

I am severely visually impaired and, as a consequence, need a screen magnifier (ZoomText). I have made many customizations to "tame" the Windows 7 GUI so that it can be used with the screen magnifier. This taming process took so much time that the prospect of redoing it is sufficiently daunting that I've avoided the reinstallation for over a year and a half. Are there files or registry settings or something that I can save before reinstallation and apply them subsequent to it so that I can restore all or most of the customizations to the GUI after reinstallation?

Does it run slow and you think a clean install would help speed it up or is it OK and you just feel it is time for a Clean Install. If the PC is running smooth, leave it along.

I have a problem with Windows 8 Pro.
Basically, it doesn't save profile settings, for example, created docs, desktop personalisation, log on window personalisation, etc.

So every time I log off or shut down the computer, all settings are reverted to default, like a fresh install.

Even the setting of Other Software's are also not saving, for example, when i change settings of media player's and restart my pc its reverted to default. Even the download history of Internet Download Manager is also reverted back when i shutdown.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Ok after more looking around I finally found my answer, My user profile was corrupt but I had not been given any notification about it.

I've resolved it by creating 2 other user accounts, and while being logged into only one of the two new accounts, transferred most of my user settings from my corrupt account to the other new one found at C/Users/"username"

Once that was done I deleted my old account, created a new one with the same name and moved it all back again. There is still a few tweaks like setting default programs and the like again but I can do it again now.

Prior to a recent install of a replacement hard drive, the homegroup was working like a dream. However, since then it has been nothing but hassle. The homegroup was originally set up by another PC in the network, but all of the files that need to be accessed on every computer are saved locally on this PC.

Every time I turn this PC on, it has forgotten the sharing settings from last time, so that the other computers do not have permission to write files, and sometimes cannot see this PC at all.

I am looking at my Documents folder, and under the Share tab I am selecting Advanced Security.

I then have to manually add this line for the other PCs to read/write each and every time as this setting isn't saved after restarting.
Does anybody know how to make Windows 10 save this setting permanently?

Hi all, this is my first thread on here.

I have just reinstalled windows xp professional sp2 on my computer at home.

Now the problem is that when a user logs off it takes ages over a minute to saving your settings.

Just after this install I changed the path to documents and settings to another partition, I then created all of the new user accounts, which were created fine no problems. Logging on is really quick.

I have had a look on the internet at solving this and i have tried changing the policy on in gpedit.msc to maximum retries of 5, when saving user settings.

I have also tried uhclean.exe from microsoft, to try and clean the user hives and end any hanging processes/services/apps etc, however this is still to no avail.

Many thanks in advance

A:Slow Logging off/Saving Your Settings

Try shutting down with literally only mouse, keyboar, monitor, power. A peripheral could be interferring. If that doesn't help than I would direct you to go through Startup in msconfig and disable whatever you don't need. This does help in many cases.
For reference to startup names and search in the startup engine.

Personally, I'd solve it with a broadband router.

You might try this process.
Disable ICS.
Run the repair below.
Enable ICS.

See if that keeps it from losing it's settings.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

A:Solved: Saving Settings on Vista Home

If you wish to do a "clean install" to get rid of 7 years-worth of useless, redundant files & garbage (and I expect you do) I can't see any way of doing that whilst retaining your settings.

The Windows feature which allows to save your existing settings, applies only when performing an "in place" upgrade from one Windows version to a newer version so doesn't apply in your case.

I have a new HP Spectre x360 laptop.  It came with WIN 8.1 (x64) and I upgraded to WIN10 (Home). I often use the machine with a USB mouse and the ClickPad is a Synaptics (Synaptics pointing device v19.0.12.95).  I keep having to reset (click the box) under the Synaptics icon in the toolbar for "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" and then click APPLY and OK.  I do this so that the touchpad is OFF when I have a mouse connected.  When I make that setting change, a notification comes up in WIN10 confirming this setting.  Good.   When I reboot, however, this setting is lost and I have to make this clickpad setting change to again "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" after every reboot. Any idea how to get WIN10 to keep this clickpad setting after every reboot??  Thanks.

I've Google'd it and the only one I've found was not fixed, and all the others are talking about a file called loadwc.exe, which does not exist on XP.

Any help would be appreciated,
Mystic (Mac G.)

I have quite a library of icons I like to use in replacement of those offered through the Win10 OS. I use them in File Explorer, On the desktop, on the start page, etc. As you can imagine, I have to start over (re-assign) every time a new Win10 edition is updated.

Is there a way to save this recipe of icons and all their associations with files/folders/.exe ? Bypass default windows settings at each new install and use my "recipe"?

Hope that makes sense.

A:Saving all icon settings as a template for further installs.

Hi, I know of utilities that allow editing these and many other parameters of fie types, and even saving the settings (as text).

And I use one utility that applies some 77 Win 7 icons to imageres.dll.

But I don't know of one that batch changes icons where a mix of different types of actions is required.

CMOS batteries can last 7 years or one. good news is they only cost about $3

To keep your temp files cleaned out I can recommend ATF Cleaner for XP. This combined with monthly defragging and occasional checkdisk should get you sped up a little. Sysinternals Page Defrag is another good utility. UYou can get it at:

Hey guys,

Basically i would like to know if there is a simple .reg file available that will change a particular registry entry so that it changes my power saving mode from balanced to performance.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{025A59 37-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D}

When this folder is selected, there is an entry called PreferredPlan I need to modify the Value Data from;

Hello all, I am in the process of making several changes to a local Windows 7 machine. This is a standalone machine that I'm attempting to make requested GPO changes to. I've run into a snag making changes to the following:

GPEDIT.MSC > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > "Bypass Traverse Checking"

GPEDIT.MSC > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > "Impersonate a client after authentication"

I'm attempting to remove the NETWORK SERVICE and LOCAL SERVICE from these two policies, leaving only users and administrators. I am able to remove both of these SERVICE accounts, however when I close and relaunch GPEDIT, the settings revert and both NETWORK and LOCAL SERVICE pop back up.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Hi guys So recently I upgraded to Windows from Windows and had some fun times with Rainmetere messing with my profile to the point I had to rip it out to get back into my profile More about this later One of the problems I noticed was in the personalization mostly with regards to background I set it to go to a specific location Namely C Themes Wallpapers However leaving the background and going back I find it pointing to 'Pictures' Which isn't where I want it pulling for backgrounds I also find later on the backgrounds are pulling from a different location not not settings Background saving Windows Slideshow even what I directed I try to reset it to point to the right location on browse it shows it is on the correct location It shows on the GUI that it now points to the folder I specify Windows Background Slideshow settings not saving but again leaving the background section and going back it reverts back to 'Pictures' Any suggestions as to where to look that may be causing this behavior

Hi as the title says it seems that whatever I change in my settings in the control panel does not get saved I noticed this when every time i open up my laptop the notification center you know the little white flag at the bottom right keeps showing an quot x quot mark saying that windows updates are not automatically set to install updates automatically So I click that button and always set it to install updates automatically So I got irritated by this in after saving shut Settings not Control Panel down but ignored it as I tried to live up with clicking install updates automatically every time I turn on my computer But what triggered me to finally ask a question is I noticed that the settings I do change in the Settings in Control Panel not saving after shut down control panel does not get saved after I shut down my laptop One example is I change my sleep setting in the power management in the control panel I always set the Turn off computer when plugged in to quot Never quot as I do not want my laptop to turn off its screen when my laptop is plugged in Then I noticed that this has the same case with my initial issue IT NEVER GETS SAVED After I shut down my computer and open the power management it keeps coming back to the default to quot minutes quot Now I really need any one's help suggestions A few things that may help I can't remember when the issue started I'm thinking the issue started not more than a month as of this writing I don't know which updates happened on my PC that may be the factor of this issue In line with number I can't roll back to an earlier restore point as I do not know when exactly may the issue started I may roll back to an earlier date lose a lot of important programs then find out the issue may exist I am on the latest Windows OS with the latest updates installed I always update my computer when it is available I did not install any other program that may interfere with the system other than windows updates

A:Settings in Control Panel not saving after shut down

As it is a laptop (with preinstalled OS I presume) there might be an utility from the manufacturer to set power saving modes which can override OS settings. Some BIOS settings may do that too.

My friend has Vista Home Premium 2007, 32-bit, with Service Pack 1 installed on a HP computer. A couple of weeks ago a Java update caused the system to crash, and the blue-screen-of-death problem occurred. It would not allow a repair or recovery, and she wound up doing a reinstallation, taking it back to the factory settings. Since that point, she has downloaded/installed various applications such as Spybot and other software, only to have it not be there when she turns the computer on the next day. It also does not save her user settings such as wallpaper, custom icons & cursors, etc. On occasion some of the stuff will be there, and on several occasions it has come up with a black screen requiring her to restore back again, losing everything. I know very little about Vista having clung tooth and nail to XP myself, and she knows even less than I, so any ideas would be appreciated greatly.

A:Vista 32 not saving user settings & changes at shutdown

Hi deadfoot13,

It sounds like the computer might still be under warranty. One thing you could suggest, would be calling the manufacturer and telling them that this symptom occurred (and continues) after returning the computer to factory settings. From that point on where the computer is set back to factory settings, it should work like it did when it was first purchased. If it doesn't, then there's something wrong in the copy the computer has been restored from, and for now and for any future problems, this option needs to work the way it's supposed to. If it doesn't, it will be a problem every time she uses this feature.

Hello I've got an issue with my networking setup Recently I changed our router to use WPA- authentication EDIT It was using WEP before However this seems to have bungled up my wireless Occasionally when I'll turn the computer on it wont automatically connect to my network I'll see my SSID in the list of visible networks but it's got a red 'X' next to it It settings authentication change since saving not Wireless says that it has improper settings I have to go to my saved wireless networks and delete it Wireless settings not saving since authentication change and then reconnect However sometimes the 'old' network Wireless settings not saving since authentication change will Wireless settings not saving since authentication change spontaneously pop back in my saved networks before I'm able to reconnect to the new one I'm sure I could just change my SSID but I'd rather not It might be worth mentioning that I occasionally use a wired connection from the same router on this computer I have yet to determine if that has anything to do with it Any ideas I'll try to grab some screenshots next time it happens Thanks Jonathan

A:Wireless settings not saving since authentication change

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus WiFi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here. For Vista and Windows 7, 8 you can use the Windows Snipping Tool

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my Nvidia Display settings to save under the Change Display Configuration panel and every time I reboot they seem to revert back to regular settings under another resolution.

I am using a laptop with a LCD monitor and I'm trying to get the "Only use one display (Single)" setting to stick, and it works when I hit apply but after the reboot it gets removed back to (Clone).

If anyone would be able to assist me that would be great.
