Font size and Pop Up boz size too big or too small - Please help

Q: Font size and Pop Up boz size too big or too small - Please help

I am having trouble with the font size and Pop up boxes size. Both are either too big or too small. I dont know how to solve this problem.

For example if I want to update my Symantic AntiVirus or Install a new program, the Box that opens is either too big or too small and font size too.

Recently I copied some fonts to my folder in Windows folder (Fonts folder).

I think maybe that has caused the problem. But I dont know how to solve it.

Please Help.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Muneeb and welcome to TSF !

You could give system restore a try : start => all programs => accessories => system tools => system restore. Select a date in bold prior to when the problem began. You won't lose any personal data but you may need to reinstall any program or update you've installed since then.

Else the system file checker can restore your system fonts. You'll need an XP install CD with service pack 2 (XP Home SP2 or XP Pro SP2 depending on the version you have installed). If your current CD hasn't got service pack 2 then you need to create a slipstreamed CD with SP2. Use one of these guides and report once you have an XP SP2 install CD :

Just bought myself a 4tb WD green, and wondering if I should just go 64k Allocation Unit Size.

Mainly going to be used for video, I've got a 2tb drive sitting around I can use for everything else.

Any reason why I shouldn't go 64k?

A:Allocation Unit Size

The larger the allocation size, the fewer the files that can be stored in that partition.

Take a gander at your Video folder, set the view to details, then click the column heading SIZE twice - - that will cause a sort descending of the folder content.

An ideal size would be the AVERAGE SIZE(all the files therein) - - but there's not tool to find that number :sigh:

I would choose a number that best fits the most dominant size shown,

This could very well be in the hardware category for printers, but for now I think it's related to the OS?
We have Win7 machines and Win Server 2008 R2 machine acting as the print server.
Using PCL driver.
FX ApeosPort IV C2275 printer
Using Standard TCP/IP port 'hostname'
Some documents with specific print settings (e.g. page range, as opposed to 'current page') fail to print. Details:

Print is 'successful' as shown by Windows.
Print job spools 'successfully', is inserted into print queue.
No print job appears from printer, nor is there any record of the job on the printer.
Page count on queue is N/A, size is 0

Any ideas? Changing protocol between RAW and LPR makes no change.

A:Print spooler zero size

Hmm; is the print driver the latest version?

Test and fix on the hosting machine first (aka the Win Server 2008 R2 machine) as that has to work correctly if the clients are to have any hope.

A colleague at work would like to set up either a SHN or a SBN. What is the best way to go about this? Would it be best to be safe to be cloud based? What equipment is needed etc...?

This will take some discussing, so please ask any questions you need. The intention would be for two/three people to access the information on the network initially. A printer will be shared on the network, allowing scan to email. Laptops would be used to access the network from external sites, this is why I'm thinking of going the cloud based route, so they can log on and access the server from anywhere in the world...

Any help/guidance is appreciated.
Thank You!

A:Setting up a small home/business network

Yes, you can consider the Cloud as a solution for access, BUT . . .
it also brings with it issues like:

You should start reading about these issues before committing to this solution.

One alternative would be a NAS device connected to your router. Putting your modem, router and NAS on a UPS power system would allow (with proper configuration) external access and you have total control, of all of the issues above.

Check the drives for errors as instructed in the link above^. This may take a few hours depending on the size of the drive. If this fails then we will resort to other options. After doing some research, it seems as if this error occurs a lot in XP.

I have an Gigabyte Radeon HD7770 1GB card. It works just fine, but I have noticed an issue where memory size detected differs from the actual size.
For example dxdiag (both32 and 64bit) detects only 700MB. So does Can You run it (from time to time).
I did validation with GPU-z and it does show proper size at 1GB:

I am wondering whether this might be due to a faulty card or (crossed fingers) nothing to worry about. I love this card and it would, obviously, really blow if it's defective.

Almost forgot to add that I am, currently, running on Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium. Windows 8 Pro 64Bit show the card as having 768MB of memory.

A:Need urgent help with small PSU

You might be screwed. I worked on one of those slim PSU computers once and had to replace it, cheapest I could find was through ebay too. Maybe someone else knows a place to find a knock-off cheaper, but I don't think any 'good' psu manufacturer makes small form ones for 'reasonable' prices. And I'd be reluctant to put a knock-off PSU in a computer, its just asking for trouble.

I'm currently running a machine with an 8-core processor and a 550W Power Supply.

The machine won't run on all 8 cores. It gets to the "Windows Startup" screen and shuts down. It's not running hot as far as I can tell, and if I manually shut down a pair of cores in the BIOS it runs just fine. I am currently running it on 6 cores, but would like to run it on all 8.

Is my Power Supply not powerful enough, or do you think it's another problem?

I'm about to buy a new LCD monitor to connect with my laptop. My laptop has a 15,6 inch screen with 1920x1080 resolution. For my external monitor I'd like to have the same resolution, but what about the size?

Does someone have any recommendations? Not to big (right now I'm using a 32 inch TV, way to big to be comfortable), but not so small that I have to sit too close to the screen. I'm thinking somewhere between 19 and 24 inches. Any opinions?

A:Recommended monitor size for 1920x1080

I have a couple 22" Acer monitors, my only complaint on them is their default color settings are horrible. That is of course fixable with your video card's control settings. I got a pretty good deal on mine about 6 months ago, I don't know what they cost now, but it should be pretty reasonable.

They replaced 2 Benq 20.1" 1680x1050 monitors which I really liked.

I installed SpeedFan yesterday, and shortly after I started hearing this barely audible sort of "screeee.. screee" coming from the fan area. I can hear the fan is working fine, and SF says my temps are normal (around 48c to 50c when idle, maxing at just over 60c when streaming video or playing a game) so my fan doesn't seem to be dying. But I don't know anything about computers, so I don't know.

I talked to an ACER guy (my laptop is an Aspire 5252) and he said use an air duster to clear out dust. I did, and I think I did it right, but the little whine is still there.

Do I need to send my laptop in for repairs?

A:Small sound coming from fan area

I have noticed noises like that in a lot of computer components and laptops. For example, my video card makes an audible noise like the one you described that is not the fan during the loading screens of certain games. From what I have read, this is not a problem, and is just a byproduct of current flowing through certain components.

Hey guys, I recently bought an old HP OEM computer (a 'dc7700', I think) off eBay. It's one of those towers that is placed horizontally, and it's quite thin. I was planning on using it as an HTPC but it lags when trying to watch HD movies, so I think I'm going to buy some really low-end graphics card.

I was looking at this one (I'm in Australia and it's either eBay or local IT shops):

I'm wondering, will this fit in the tower? Do I need to specifically look for a low-profile graphics card? Thanks in advance.

You mean if the program is on the SSD with the OS? Id guess so since it will write the data faster, but I am not expert and on top of that I don't have a SSD. But also a GOOD CPU will play a good roll in that.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking at this case for my new build. It seems like a nice cheap case for my build, but I'm worried about its size. I'm getting a GTX 570 which is 10.5 inches long and I've read a couple of reviews about people having trouble fitting shorter cards in there, but some reviews said that largers ones like the 570/580 could fit.

I'm just wondering if anyone had this case and could give me some insight on this. Currently this is the only thing stopping me from deciding on this case.

I was also looking at the Cooler Master HAF 922 which plenty of reviews say anything can fit in there, but its costs twice as much.

I am working on a aspire laptop that currently has 512 Memory. Do I HAVE TO add the same size memory to get the Dual Channel performance or can I add a 1GB module to the system (resulting in a 1.5 GB system) and not have issues. I know the speeds have to be the same.
Is this process any different than installing memory in a tower system?

A:Is RAM size an issue in laptops?

Laptops are usually fitted with SD-RAM, which is smaller than standard PC based DDR RAM.

In order to use dual channel they need to be of the same size, and ideally the same speed, although the latter isn't so much of a worry as it will default to the lowest speed out of the two RAM sticks fitted.

With the cost of RAM these days (and assuming your laptop will take it) I would recommend you purchase a 2GB kit consisting of 2 1GB sticks.

In respect to fitting the RAM, its all dependant on how easy the laptop manufacturer has made fitting the RAM. Some laptops require the keyboard to be removed in order to change the sticks, others you can just remove a panel on the underside of the laptop and they're exposed and easily changed.

The RAM is fitted by lining up the stick at 45 degrees to the socket, and then sliding it into the socket til resistance is felt, then pushed down til it locks into place on the metal clips. To remove the RAM, you just spread the metal clips on each side of the stick, and it then pops up. You'll see exactly how its done when you remove your old RAM sticks.

Quick question, is there an easy way to read the block size of a drive in Windows 7? I'd imagine there is but a cursory look on google usually ended up as linux commands which do not apply to me.

A:Partition block size, Windows 7

With NTFS there is no means to set blocksize and the cluster size is adjusted automatically.

With Linux, yes, you set the blocksize and describe the partition in terms of count of blocks.

A:Should I go with a SSD drive for my small file server?

I'm pretty certain they aren't long term tested (and lack proper long term reliability and feedback information) in the real world environment yet, so probably wouldn't be best for essentia and/or critical server deployments.

However, wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to confirm this, because its entirely possible I'm incorrect.

I am moving my small business into a new office in a few days and could do with some advice on configuring the network.

There are RJ45 connections in every room which is cool, these all feed into a 48-port patch panel which the last guys left behind.

Every PC on the network needs to be able to access the internet, our storage server and other network attached devices such as printers and faxes.

Q1). If our modem goes into a router, and the router goes into a switch box, and all PCs and other devices including the storage server are patched into the switch box, will this work? We will be using one dedicated IP, and I believe that if the modem goes straight into the switch box, each PC will unsuccessfully compete for that same IP. So does going through a router alleviate this?Click to expand...

you are correct on both points. the issue is where does the DHCP service originate {the router or a Domain Controller[*]}?

Q2). Do patch panels have speed limitations? Despite being entirely passive, is it possible that the patch panel might only be 100Mbit? I haven't bought the switch box yet, so would like to know if there's any point going for 1Gbit over 100Mbit. Couldn't see a model number on it unfortunately.Click to expand...

No, the panel is entirely passive and therefore invisible to the network. Active components, eg routers & switches could be factors.
You are at that point of an investment and cudos to you for asking before diving in

This is the time to create a Gigabyte backbone and use 100mb client access to it (not GBit). This will ensure the whole network gets good service an not single client can dominate it. The sole exception I would make is to use a GB nic in every server system attached.

[*] Instead of using the router to provide DHCP, a better choice is the Domain Controller server (provided you use one ). You can then configure static addresses from one location and set the DHCP range in the same place. DHCP and DNS typically are from the same server, while Exchange and Active Directory are elsewhere.

I was thinking of getting like 2 other HDDs other then the one i will use to build my PC.

One would be for recording Videos and other would be to run the games. I wouldn't really need that much space for the videos or maybe the games. So yea?

Does multiple hard drives require more PSU Watts?

A:How Small Do They Make Hard Drives?

Why would you get 2 if you don't need much space? Your computer will use more power the more you get but its pretty minimal in the big picture, somewhere around 10W per drive.

I wouldn't bother trying to look for small drives unless you are going to get them used, which I wouldn't really recommend. The smaller you go, generally the more you'll pay per GB. I'd recommend checking out Newegg's prices for drives and buying the biggest you can afford.

So i seem to be having small 10-15 sec freezez during gameplay. (seems to happen on all games) Im running vista 64, asus p5n32 mother, nvidia 9800gt, and 6gig of ram. also including the fan on the graphics card im running 6 fans. Sor far i have defragged, checked all ram cards, cleaned regestry, and replaces graphics card. I do very little internat on this comp, mostly gaming and occasional e-mail. Hoping someone can give me some insight

A:Small 10-15 sec freezes

Uninstall your graphic drivers and completely remove them from system using driver cleaner, then download and install the latest drivers from nvidia. Also check your GPU / CPU temps; with that many fans it shouldn't be a problem though.

I just got a new rig with Windows 7 Home Premium.I installed the latest version of FF
and all the web pages are very small w/borders on either side of at least 2 inches. My resolution is set at 1280x800 (as always).I tried the normal adjustments w/W7, but it only effects the display of icons, text, etc.,not the pages.Explorer displays the pages normally, but I don't like IE. I like my Fox.I'm thinking it's the new FF version conflicting w/W7.

Is there a simple solution to this or am I going to have to go back to the older FF version ( I don't want to lose all my FF settings and bookmarks....Again ) ? I'm 10 minutes away from going back to the previous version.

If there's a tweak or setting adjustment to rectify this, I would be grateful for the info.

myself and others at Techspot have long been telling folks that purchasing a small graphics card with big ram is futile, and Tom's has done a definitive and comprehensive article/bench on the subject. so for all who think they are getting better bang for the buck buying that 9500GT with 1Gb of ram, you might want to check this out.,2428.html

A:A long debated subject: Small GFX card with lots of RAM

I'm a little confused. I'm also going to say I understand the results fully. They tested with a 4870 which on all games other than Crysis (That basterd hell child it is) ran fine at most resolutions with its 512MB of VRAM. I do see how the 1GB model is the sweet spot. I'd be willing to say that if you know anything about graphics and I mean actual knowledge, not people who have single a HD4830 and think they play that Crysis game on high with frame rates above 30 FPS, you would already know this. I'll also state that its a marketing ploy by graphics card companies trying to push their lower end cards to the uninformed, and man does it seem to work,

Something we already know but can now use to confused those who don't know even more. The only thing I think I got out of that is seeing how much of a (insert word for prostitute here) GTA4 is with VRAM :haha:

PS its getting late I'm not entirely sure what I'm talking about.

Hi houston,
as far as case goes, look for a mid tower case or better, one made for the gamer are sure to have room for high end cards. like this
the mother board only requires a pcie 1.0 or pcie 2.0 slot, but is dependant on the cpu you plan to use, or are using. and the features you want. are you planning a new build? if you want to list what you use your computer. i, and others would be happy to make recommendations.

50 Employee's, with sales people all over the world, two offices and your bosses excuse for not properly funding this project is the economy? Interesting....

The way I look at it, you can spend many hours of your time developing a VPN solution or you can buy a pre-packaged one..

So the parameters are VPN on the cheap... hmm
OpenVPN, If your going for broke get two WRT routers, flash the firmware with OpenWRT and install OpenVPN on both routers, then setup a routed VPN ie: in NJ, and in NY.. Traffic will be routed from one office to the other. For the employees use a road warrior setup. Expect to spend many hours setting it up. You can get it done with ~24hrs of time and about $130 in hardware.

Remember VPN traffic will be slower then regular CAT5 traffic, expect to max out your internet connection if you have multiple users..

If I were setting it up, I'd setup a terminal server and install all your apps on that, then have the users VPN in or just use regular username/password authentication. Granted expect to spend some $$$$

Most laptops have a SVGA (video) output to connect to a projector for presentations, or to a monitor (so you dont have to stare at the laptop screen when at home). Typically to disable, you should be able to go into the display settings (where you see the two monitors), click on the secondary monitor, and select disable. Otherwise, you must click advanced, and locate the option to disable the secondary output (typically a check box).

You should be able to contact your system manufacturer for specific information and steps. Otherwise, please provide the model number of the laptop.

Hello, my friend had downloaded Power Quest Partition Magic 8.0 and was installing it. But when the program asked her to make a Rescue Diskette, she realized that her Notebook does not have diskette drive. So she plugged in her flash drive.

Then her flash drive's size shrank from 2GB to 1.38MB. And folders inside it (as viewed on her notebook) had weird names (became symbols instead of English font)

She's now worried about files that she previously stored in that thumbdrive.

Is there any way to rescue those files and convert her flash drive back to its normal?

A:Please help, flash drive size shrinks because Power Quest Partition Magic 8.0

nope- those files are gone, they have been overwritten. The use of a file recovery program (many are free) may be able to get some of them, but many may be gone, the longer she waits the worse of the chance it will be that they are overwritten.

She will need to use partition magic - the same program to resize the flash drive.

It is HIGHLY inadvisable to partition flash drives. NEVER save ANYTHING on a flash drive that you cannot afford to lose. The media is unreliable by nature.

Are the new drives in RAID configuration too? And you replaced the old drives by replacing one, then letting the array rebuild, then replacing the other drive and rebuilding again?

Even if you replace the drives in a RAID array, the array itself is not automatically resized. Your RAID management software may have an option to resize the array to fit the new (bigger drives). If this is not the case, then you have to delete the existing and and recreate it from scratch.

It is the way the drives are labeled. Hard drive manufacturers use 1000 bytes for a megabyte and windows sees it as 1024 per megabyte. Its just how it is these days. Any 80gb hard drive you buy will be 76gb when you put it into an operating system.

A friend of mine has the HP Pavilion Slimline s3100n computer. It's a small form-factor motherboard. Has a single PCI-express 16x slot (for a video card). But he's looking to add a 2nd video card to do dual monitor.

I've been looking at the NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS or 8500GT - but I don't think they'll actually fit in this computer (even with a low profile bracket). Can anyone suggest a low profile, small form factor video card that will fit in this little HP computer? Doesn't need to be an over-the-top card....64mb with no fan even works (it's a business use computer - non-gaming, mostly business apps and surfing the web). Thanks in advance.

Just been having a look in my bios. I noticed 2 intresting sounding settings and wondered exactly what they did.

A: graphics win size, Options for 2 mb, 4mb, 128mb, 256 mb.

B: Vga boot from. Options , auto, external agp, external pci.

I have a 256 mb AGP graphics card, how should i set these?

A:Graphics win size?

A: this sets the amount of memory you allocate to video from the on board RAM. As you have not posted your system spec (please do it now!) and you have an AGP graphics card it is not important.
B: VGA boot - not critical but set it to auto and the let the system get on with it. You could try the external AGP and test if you get a marginally faster boot from it. It will be milliseconds different!

A:Full size of 160GB HDD not recognized when formatting with Win XP-sp2

127 GBs is a lot anyway, isn't it......?

Just kidding, don't get all bent.

48 bit logical block addressing (48 bit LBA) must be implemented before the computer will recognize the full capacity of the drive. You could check with the board mfgs' website to see if the board & BIOS you have is capable of supporting it.

I'm going to buy one seperately for a PC I'm putting together. What is a good size? I was thinking 22 inches. Any good reccomendations on a good one at a decent price?

A:What size monitor do you have?

19 inches on up... provided you have the real estate to set it up on your desk.
A high quality 19 inch is a much wiser choice than a 24 inch with low resolution, bad inverter, poor adjustability, angles of view, low contrast, low reliability and early failure.

I recently have noticed some odd little graphical problems when I play any game on my computer This is relatively a newish - months problem and I can t for the life of me figure out what the problem is as drivers? or card Small artifacts: graphical it never really happened before With certain types of graphics small lines or boxes appear around them It happens mostly with things that are cloud or glow effects mostly on spells and the like It almost looks like the graphics engine is trying too hard and showing the borders of the effect as well The cloud effects also seem to be really square and boxy as well Some transparent colours also appear too intense becoming almost opaque This whole problem started as far as I know when I installed Neverwinter Nights but it effects my whole system now I am using the most current version of DirectX and the drivers for my ATI Small graphical artifacts: card or drivers? Radeon X are also up to date Any idea what might be causing the problem and or how to fix it nbsp

A:Small graphical artifacts: card or drivers?

There are a lot of error messages posted by users at the Neverwinter Nights 2 forum, so check there first... and do a gurgle search for Neverwinter Nights 2. Then if you don't find relevant answers there, you might look at this stuff below... which is guesswork, but has helped with some of our clients.

It would be helpful to know what those "certain types of graphics" are... It sounds as if it could be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling Office and other software. but it is perhaps possible that spyware or adware is involved, as well.
Run your antivirus and antispyware software twice... once in normal mode, then immediately shut down and reboot in SAFE mode.
I would uninstall every relevant program, then run a defrag, then run CCleaner free registry editor. Then reinstall every relevant program. Often times, you need to again run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner at this point. Then as a precaution, run your antivirus and anti-spyware in regular and SAFE mode... and also run Adware 2007 and Spybot 1.4
Sometimes screwy things get into Microsoft Office Professional setups... and Adobe software.
It can also be a graphics driver problem, where disabling the current driver, and downloading 0the latest or a previous version will help, but I doubt this is the case based upon what you report.
After all the above, if still bad, download and run HiJack This, then post the log to this forum where some real experts can look it over.

Hey guys i was about to purchase a new AVI Radeon X1300 because I havn't purchased a seperate graphic chipset to replace the sucky Intel integrated chipset on the mother board. I need to know if this chipset supports DirectX 9.0c or not b/c many new games use this vesion. If the retail version doesn't, is there an update?? I'd really appriciate to know (preffereable from someone who has or once had this card or a similar card)

Thank u guys

Also, i only choose this relatively old and not-to-powerful card b/c u don't have much choice due to lack of PCI Slot compatibility on the E310, or so I've heard. Does anyone know if any other AVI Cards (Xtasy, 7K, 9250, X300SE, etc) are useable with my Dell Demension E310?? I'd really like some advice b4 i purchase anything. Thanks again

My Maxtor 250gb SATA HDD is not being recognised at its true size

When i come to intall my OS it says it is only about 130gb. Once instaled operating system and on windows it still appears the same size. Formating does not appear to cure this problem.

I relise that most HDDs dont actualy appear to be at their marketed size - i would be happy with 230gb but not 130gb.

Whats up?

im sure i saw a fix for this somewhere i just cant remember where it was.

Thanx for any help

I really need to get one of my files from my computer to another computer in a different house. It's an .mdf file and it's only 4.06 GB. So I tried to burn it onto a DVD, but it only reads as 72 MB. I also used and tried to upload it onto there temporarily, but it still is being read as 72 MB. What's the problem?

A:Wrong File Size problems

Create a File Folder with the "New" command.
Then drag the .mdf file into it.
Then right click on the folder, then scroll down to the bottom of that folder, and click on properties.
Regardless of whether it is 72 mb or 4.06 GB, select the folder add it to the copy list.
Now copy it as normal.

Hi there,
I bought a Palit 7600GT in January this year back when i knew squat about computers. I realise now that a lot of the other 7600GT's are clocked at 560/1400 Mhz whereas mine is at 560/700. Th Palit site doesnt say anything.
I looked all over the net but found mixed up or no mention of the clocks.
Can you tell me how to find out?
If anyone else with a Palit 7600GT could respond with their clocks it would be even better.

Am I being ripped off?
I still got the receipt.

Its a Palit 256Mb 7600GT DDR3
Speeds when i bought it -
Core clock: 560Mhz
Memory clock: 700Mhz

A:need help in setting up a network in a small medical office

Basically the rule of thumb is one cable per device. I would use cat5e for this type of setup as it will give you room for expansion as cat5e is gigabit ethernet capable (assuming growth is always good instead of re-wiring infrastructure). This is the cable most often used in fast ethernet setups (100MBps).

Also keep in mind that the maximum length you can use for the cabling is 100M or your going to run into some serious issues.

You also need to use different ethernet cable types for the devices. For Example - If you go from Router to a computer, you use straight through. If you go from router to switch, you also use a straight through. The only time you connect devices using a crossover cable, is like devices. Ex - switch to switch, router to router.

What does this meen

Graphics Win Size [64mb]

Allows you to select the size of mapped memory for AGP graphic data.
Configuration options:[32] [64] [128]

Does this meen I can make it 64 or 128 instead of 32 mb?

A:Quick question bout Graphic Win Size

This defines how much system memory your graphics card is allowed to "borrow". Unless you have 512 megs of RAM, set it to maximum (128).

So, not much ago I found out my computer has a mere 200W PSU. Which frightens me because I am buying a new video card. And I know it needs alot more than 200w. I came across a very good PSU on new egg. I am asking this because I think my PSU is very small...or maybe my eyes are deceiving me.

But I don't know if will fit in my case...

Just for info, this is the video card.

A:PSU in small case?

You might have a small form factor PSU, I have one in an old HP computer, it's only 160w. You can buy more powerful ones on Newegg, you just have to look around for the MicroATX ones. Does your computer have AGP by the way? Just making sure

It would be nice if you would put what computer you have or the model of PSU, then we would know right away.

Hi guys thanks all for your help for my last problem bout my mates comp we managed to correct the problem I am asking anyone here to help me I have a friend that asked a computer company to upgrade his memory and since then he is getting a memory error size message on opening screen. I opened the system and realised the technician has inserted a DDR333 256MB legend and a DDR400 256MB IBM would this cause it to read size error as aren't these two entirely different stick sizes? He is now having problems with his system dropping hard drives etc and reading probs should I remove the 333 and leave the 400 and see if this removes the size error prob?

A:Error Memory Size

It may very well be a ram incompatibility problem, or maybe a bad ram stick.

Test the ram as per the instructions in this thread HERE and see what the results are.

Does anyone know if you are installing 3 320gb hard drives in RAID 0 if they are ok to be kept as single partition of 960gb or does it need to be spit into partitions? And if there is a max on how big a hard drive can be seen as in vista what that would be.

A:what is the maximum partition size in vista?

I don't know much about RAID, but Vista won't have any problems with that size. Biggest hard drive for NTFS is 256TB I think, might run into motherboard problems before that.

Hey guys,

I'm wondering about buying a surge suppressor for a small office. A recent electrical storm took out at least one power supply in my dad's office, so I'm thinking we should get a surge suppressor installed. There are five desktops in the office, each consuming on average 300W, I'm assuming. There are also two laptops probably consuming at most 150W.

There is already a UPS serving most of the computers, but that doesn't hold them for very long, as it probably isn't meant to power as many computers as it is. Anyway, I wanna talk to my dad about installing a dedicated surge suppressor. What brand, or better yet, model, should we be getting? I know nothing about surge suppressors.

Regards and thanks for any replies

A:Surge suppressor/protector for small office

Tripp, and APC are both good brands, andthe thing to look for it not just surge suppressors and battery backups but ones that have AVR (Auto Voltage regulator) capabilities. brown outs and such can be just as damaging as power outs.

I'm fairly new to comparing video cards, and finding up to date, unbiased articles on this is a pain, so I ask you kind folks this -

I have a choice of buying 2 similar cards:
1) GeForce 7600 GS with 512MB video memory and 128-bit memory bus.
2) ATI Radeon X1900 GT with 256MB video memory and 256-bit memory bus.

Most other attributes are similar but the ATI is slightly faster speeds (and higher price). Generally speaking though, what is more important: more memory? or better bus?

Another comparison in a similar price zone is a
1) GeForce 7600 GS with 512MB video memory and 128-bit memory bus, 533 MHz Memory Clock, 12.8 GB/s Memory Bandwidth. (heat sink-no fan)
2) GeForce 7600 GT with 256MB video memory, 128-bit memory bus, 1400 MHz Memory Clock, 22.4GB/s Memory Bandwidth. (fan)

Which of these two would result in better performance? Are fans that noisy?

I see that the Pentium D is a 64-bit processor, but when I search for Intel processors with 64-bit registers, only the Itaniums are listed. What is the register width of the Pentium D processor? Also, know of any good websites that provide information like this for processors?

A:Register size of Intel processors

Well, the register size depends on what kind of registers you mean and what mode the processor is in.

In full 64-bit mode, x64 processors have 16 64-bit general-purpose registers plus the floating point and multimedia stuff. You can still use all the registers with less than 64 bits of data of course.

And, I know this may come as a shock to you, but Intel for example actually supplies documentation for its products

I am refurbing my son's "old" Dell (I know, I know) for the ol' lady and all went well until it came time to check my RAM numbers.
At boot the BIOS reads all 768 mb (1-512 and 1-256) but the Control panel-System displays a number that 1-seems to change and 2-reflects a much smaller quantity.
Should I be concerned?
Just on a lark, I tried Bel-Arc Advisor and again got a small (274 mb) number. Bel-Arc did reflect the 2 sticks and their respective sizes
Before I go to pulling sticks and tracking serial numbers
Which is correct????

A:Memory size, BIOS or system info??

most laptops contain integrated video which means the video card "steals" system ram for it's own use. That's why it is vital to always maximize ram in laptops. 1. You increase battery life and system speed. 2. you have more ram leftover even after video takes some of it.

bottom line - nothing to worry about for now.
add more ram. Before you do - read:
