I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Running XP pro Sp2, IE 7 & Mozilla 3.6 8 . Using Mozilla, facebook, farmvile game. Mozilla has the file plugin-container.exe, which taskman shows hogging resources. Out of the blue my pc started the beeping randomly while using mozilla. When I close, no beep since. All other apps are standard, usual and up to date. No new hardware or software. Recent past & some random scroll bar moving by it's self, have not found a fix. That happens on both browsers. Should I remove or disable the plugin-container.exe, & would it affect mozilla & farmville? I read where it suppose to stop the browser from crashing, but it doesn't. Also have virtually the same setup up on another pc routed with this one. Please give me some insight!

I installed the new processor I bought on eBay and now when I start the computer I get a series of beeps and no picture. "New" processor is a PIII 933mHz replacing a PIII 650mHz. The only difference beside the speed is the FSB on the old PIII is 100mHz and on the new one is 133mHz. Could this be causing my problems?

Following instructions I opened and cleaned the interior electronics after it developed overheating problems that would result in it powering down. Following reassembly the computer will eventually restart but only after failing bootup at leastg two times. At initial startup or boot from hibernation the computer does not appear to reach boot source but emits a series of beeps, first 1 beep, then 3 beeps, another three beeps, and finally 1 beep. These are all about 1 second long and seperated by 1 second. Pressing and holding the start button again sometimes resuls in a full repeat of the above or the computer emits the series of 1single beats, 4 beats, one second long and one second seperation. Eventually pressing and holding he power button will evenually result in hearing the computer attempt to boot from the CD ROM (which is second on the list after the Internal HDD). Any help would be appreciated.

A:Dell Inspiron 1564 Not Turning ON. Make 6 BEEPS first and then followed by 5 BEEPS. Please HELP!!!

Hello Gitesh23,
6 beeps on an Inspiron 1564 indicate video card failure. However, 5 beeps on the system indicate CMOS battery failure. Hence in order to isolate the cause of failure, I would request you to try connecting an external monitor to the computer and check if that works.
You may also try re-seating the CMOS battery and check if the issue persists. Before performing the steps, read and follow the safety instructions in Dell Knowledge Base Article: "Precautionary Measures for Personal Safety". Remove all power sources including AC Adapter and Battery before you remove or re-install an item in your computer. Please see the service manual for instructions on how to re-seat the CMOS Battery:
Please try the steps and write back with your findings.

I'm sure you will loose some of the gee wiz graphics not using a DX10 card but so far most game makers have been making games that use either DX9 or DX10. As far as lost planet is concerned here is whats posted on their official forums as supported vid cards.

The following is a list of video cards that our R&D labs have tested in conjunction with NVIDIA and ATI, and have been confirmed to work.
NVIDIA (DirectX 9)
GeForce 6600
GeForce 7x00 series
GeForce 8x00 series

NVIDIA (DirectX 10, requires Windows Vista)
GeForce 8x00 series

ATI (DirectX 9)

A:GTX 200 Series vs ATI 4000 Series...

If you want 8800GT's, the prices have dropped to about $150 average on newegg which is great considering i got mine for $250. Personally, I'm against SLI, but if you're for it and would have to make a purchase now, go with 2 8800GTS g92 as they're averaging about <$200 (MSI's 8800GTS is on newegg for $177) and they provide some performance over the 8800GT. Since the 9800GTX is basically the same performance as the 8800GTS but more expensive, then forget that.

If you can wait a while to make a purchase, I've heard that the newer 9800GTX+ will have higher stock clocks that will deliver better performance with its newer drivers too, and this card comes out in mid-July. It's supposed to be priced around $230 and it's chip is built on 55nm process. This card sounds attractive, but we'll have to wait for solid reviews of the card first.

ATI... I don't like them, so I'm sorry but I can't tell you anything about them.

will the 9 series make the $220 8800gts drop to something like $100 or will it still be $200?

A:Will the 9 series cards make the 8 series cards cheaper?

eventually, and then the 10 series will do the same to the 9 series, rinse and repeat. basically as long as its one of the fastest cards the gts will be expensive, when it becomes obsolete (relatively) its price will drop.

from the question i assume you are looking to upgrade, if you want to only spend $100 then i'd say your best bet is an OCed 7600 GT, lotsa bang for your buck, i can run FEAR with pretty high settings with just one of them.
but really, what are you looking for?

I have a Netgear DG834GT wireless router which works fine with my PCs which have G series network adapters. But with my laptop with an N series network adapter the signal disconnected every 20 seconds then reconnected; this was only a problem using it at home – everywhere else it connected well. I solved this by using a G series PCMCIA when at home. So far so good.

Now my wife has been given a work laptop which has the same problem. She can’t use a PCMCIA because the laptop has been set to stop her installing the software. So… should we get an N series router? Is there any reason it wouldn’t let us both work PCMCIA-free? And if we should go ahead, any advice on what specs I should get or avoid?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

Just put in a new 400 watt power supply and when booting up I get no beeps. there is a p2 plug that I didn't use but everything else is connected correctly (i'm pretty sure). I get no power to the monitor either and I'm not sure about the HD. I'm thinking I have missed something but I do not know what.

Board and CPU were tested as a unit on a test bench (at a reputable PC shop) and post checked fine.

What did I do wrong?

What else could be wrong?

Check to make sure the board is not shorting to the case, and that the motherboard standoffs are installed correctly. Disconnect all lead wires to the case except the power on switch...

Thought it was time to upgrade to XP Home.

I thought it was possibly memory not seated properly.

I removed each strip and reseated. First in reverse order.
Turned on the power and now I get long beeps every 2 seconds and that is all.

I put the strips back in the original configuration but still get the beeps.

hi, ive got a athlon xp 2600+ ive posted recently on how my system overheated to 65C. the heatsink was installed by the guy who sold me the processor. SO I DID NOT MESS WITH IT (xept mayb 1nce). one day, while i was playing Alien vs. Predator, my temp soared to 74C. then, it just shut itself off.

now, when i boot my pc, it beeps five times. my motherboards manual says 5 beeps mean processor failiure. my procs fried right? and im not sure its 5 beeps could be 6, which mean "Gate A20 FAilure". i DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER COMPUTER PARTS, AS I LIVE IN A REMOTE LOCATION. but im pretty sure its not the mobo / ram / vga etc. etc.

also, in conection with the above, i have NOT done anything which voids AMD's warranty (eg. overclocking, application of a thermal gel, using other fans/heatsinks etc.) can i exchange the processor under warranty?

I've got a 6 year old Fujitsu Siemens computer which I thought I'd try and sort out. It had been turning on fine up until about a week ago and then it started messing up. When I try and turn it on it just starts beeping repeatedly and not doing anything, the screen doesn't register the computer. After turning it on and off it eventually comes to a screen which says that there is an error with the floppy drive and to 'insert system disk and press enter', the computer normally starts with the system disk in but it is frustrating going through this process. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix the problem without taking it to get repaired, or is it just old and falling apart now?

Thanks for any advice people can offer.

The beep codes are meant to help diagnose the problem. In this case I would think that you have a hardware problem.

Yes, RMA it ASAP before warranty expires. I did that and it took about a month from the day I sent the board out. Don't lose your cool.

I have a Gateway GM5260 with Windows XP Media Center on it. Recently I started getting a "NTLDR missing" message at start up.

I tried running the repair tool on the OS disc but it couldn't load the necessary files to function. I tried a few other discs I have as well and none of them worked either.

Now the computer has become totally unresponsive. I get nothing but a black screen. Not even a blinking cursor. I can hear the fans spinning but nothing else happens. There are no beep codes what-so-ever.

I am not sure if it is the Motherboard or the PSU maybe?

Thank You in advance to anyone who may be able to help.

I have an ASUS P2L97 MB with a PII system. Was working fine for about a year until is was moved. Now when the system powers on it gives me a beep followed by three quick beeps. It then starts to POST (monitor hasn't warmed up yet) and then just shuts off. I checked all internal connections and can't seem to find anything loose. Any ideas??

A:Dual P3 ...eight beeps

this page says 8 beeps means display memory error, however it doesn't say if the beeps are continuous or not.

My PC beeps 6 times when I try to turn it on, no error messages come up on the screen, the moniter and computer just go striaght on to stand by and the beeping continues. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thank you.

I have no idea when this problem started, but I have just ignored it since I was never at my laptop very much. However, lately I started using it more and every few minutes there is an alert beep...high tone to low tone. It comes out of the speakers, which makes movie watching pretty annoying.
I have read some similar problems, but I never got a full answer so I was just wondering if anybody knew what was really going on.

a friend has a Toshiba Satellite S300, Windows Vista 32bit.
When it opens it just does continuous never-ending beeps and the screen is stuck black with just a cursor on the upper left corner.
Now, I tried via Ubuntu live cd but it just goes on and on without opening(no beeps here).

Also, when I go into bios and then press ESC to get out, after that it normally continues and boots up Vista..

Also I don't know if this is relevant but when I go into Vista there is the same key stuck (and does the sound when a key is stuck) and I have to press some keys in order to unstuck it.

Just finished loading a new copy of xp onto a new hard drive and everything was going fairly smooth until i went to reboot it. I turn it on and the monitor just stays black and all I get is one long beep that repeats every three or so seconds and never stops. Tried disconnecting everything one by one and now only my mouse, keyboard and monitor remain. the board is only a little over a year old, processer is a bit old (amd 2200), gfx card is radeon 9800, can't be the memory or hard drives since they are disconnected. Any idea's before I smash it with my face?

Hi, I don't know much of computers so I am asking for your help guys, my Toshiba Satellite A135-S2276 keeps beeping repeatedly until I press the space key, and then it starts, and after it starts in the password menu it keeps writing this character "}" repeatedly and everywhere else inside the windows environment. My NOD Antivirus and the Windows Defender can't find any virus, I recently changed my memory to 1Gb but only started doing it a few days ago. Can it be a keyboard problem, though all the keys seem fine and nothing happened?

Thanks guys
