I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, have you tried hooking up to an external monitor? This will help you determine if it's a problem with the screen or logic board.

Hello everyone i seem to have a problem with my laptop screen, all the areas that are meant to be white are a teal color. For example the white within the search bar is a teal. It started last night randomly while i was watching a youtube video.

I found an image online that looks similar to what mine does

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1521 with a cracked screen. I want to make sure that is the only
problem with this laptop before I invest a replacement screen. Can I somehow connect this
laptop to a desktp screen and make sure it works? If so, what do I need to do this?

Or connect to another laptop to check??

A:Problem with Laptop Screen

there should be a VGA connector on the side of the laptop - connect a desktop screen to that - should be able to use the same cable - then you need to toggle to use that output
Look on the keyboard for a F key with a picture of a screen on - often F4 or F5 - but varies with manufacturer
then use that F key with the FN key together and the screen will toggle
1. laptop only
2. laptop and desktop screen
3. desktop screen only
Not necessarily in that order

A:Problem with Laptop Screen

Do you have your laptop set on a power-saving mode? Check the power settings. My netbook has a battery manager function that enables me to adjust the LCD brightness level when I'm not plugged in so that battery life is optimized. You also might want to check the brightness settings that are accessible (probably) through your keyboard to make sure you haven't turned down the brightness on the screen by accident (a possibility, as I know a FN + F5 will do that on mine).Edit after doing further research: FN + up arrow on the keyboard will increase your screen brightness. If that doesn't work, right-click on the battery on your taskbar, click on Power options, choose whatever power plan you are set on, change the brightness levels, choose to save, and that should work.Since this system is running XP, I'm presuming this is not a new system. If it were and you have always had this problem and never been able to resolve the brightness issues, you need to contact Dell Technical Support. Your system is under warranty and there could be a problem with your display.

A:Help! Problem with my Laptop Screen!

Sounds like another NVidia graphics card failure in a laptop if you have pixelated and artifacts on the screen. If its a hardware issue with the mainboard or video card it will be pricey to fix. Could be just be the RAM though. I think your best bet is to take it into a local shop and have them do a diagnosis or estimate to repair.

Now i have an even worse problem, i can hardly see my screen it is extremely dull and can only be seen in the light faintly..
thing is i think i hate knocked something to do with the backlight out of place as when i hit the bottom the color comes back to full and then goes again.

any solutions? please

I fear you have a loose connection problem! Might be a job for an engineer unless you feel confident if having a go yourself. If you feed the make and model of your laptop into Google you just might find a reference to an engineers manual.

Hi

I have a Toshiba A10 Laptop. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen displays fine but when it loads windows the picture becomes very faded. You can still see the desktop but you have to have your nose right up to the computer.

Also if I shut the lid and open it the windows desktop will display for a few seconds and then go off.

Does anyone know what is wrong with it? Or how I can sort the problem out?

Cheers

Hello everyone,

Today, I noticed the screen of my HP laptop acting strangely. The laptop is an HP Pavilion DV5, running Vista Home Premium. The screen itself appears garbled, overly bright, and displaying text that is very very difficult to read. I have attempted to take some pictures of the screen, although they appear to come out clearly from the camera. The screen issues are not displayed in Windows specifically, but as soon as I turn the laptop on, while still in BIOS.

Could this be the screen finally giving out, or something else entirely? Please help, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Do you see any kind of glow around the edges of the screen when you power up the laptop in a darkened room without the external monitor connected?

If you don't see a glow, do you see any faint images on the screen if you shine a strong light on it after powering up?

I have a Compact presario Laptop model 1200-xl109.
The problem is the screen. There are three vertical lines on the screen on the left half of the screen. They measure about 2cm wide and about 2cm apart.

This is not a display problem because I checked the display on a CRT monitor and it is fine.

The problem is with the screen itself.

Does anyone maybe know of a site where I can have a look at how to fix this.

Thanks

Greetings, i have a laptop who now began having display issues. I see screen backlight going up, but there is no picture. If i plug in normal LCD monitor into vga port, everything works fine on that monitor, and when switch Fn back onto laptop screen, it suddenly starts to work, but its resolution is all messed up and you cant change it, it only shows upper left corner of the screen fullscreen(thats about 1/4th of the whole screen). I have narrowed it down to the lcd or its wire that goes into the motherboard, inverter seems to work fine.

A:Laptop Fan & Black Screen Problem

This doesn't sound good. It's seeming like a hardware issue.
You aren't even getting far enough for it to be windows related. The machine is simply not powering on properly.
If this were a desktop I'd have some ideas for you, but with a laptop there's not a hell of a lot to do.

Only thing I can really think of is finding out the key combo for external display and attach to it an external monitor to see if the problem is only the screen.

A:Very strange laptop screen problem

Make a screenshot by pressing the 'Print Screen' key, open Paint and click on Edit then Paste, then File then Save as and save it as a JPG file.
If the line is on the screenshot you have a problem with the laptop's Graphics, if it's not then you have a problem with the laptop's screen.

Attach the screenshot to your next post if it shows the line.
Otherwise can you take a picture of the screen and post that ?

Meat, On an older laptop, the backlights are most likely burning out. Here an install link
http://www.lcdpart.com/doc/ccflinstallation.html

If you replace the keyboard, and still has the problem, it a motherboard issue. Then you have to use an external.

Hi,

I have new Asus laptop with Intel 4500MHD graphics card and recently have some problems with screen under Windows 7 64bit. I was messing with color calibration and i get back to standard calibration, but now, when i switch windows/panels/anything (for example from bright to dark color) screen is messing colors - it's hard to describe, i see the pixels are moving for 1 sec. Sometimes it looks similar to changing brightness of screen. When i open picture with gradient i see pixels (colors) are "moving" and after 1 second it stops. I don't think it's graphic card related because under Linux everything looks fine.

Thanks for any ideas.

You don't typically see this kind of thing on a flat-panel display but you might want to go into the display settings and change the refresh rate just to see if it has any effect.

I have had my acer for probably about a year and half or so. I have been having a problem with the screen/brightness for awhile now. Before, whenever I adjusted the screen, the brightness just cut out. I could just barely see what was happening. I fixed this by just closing the laptop and putting it to sleep, then opening the laptop and turning it back on. The brightness returned to normal. If i adjusted the screen again though, it would cut out. I assumed it was some connection problem with the screen. Now my screen won't light up at all. There is no brightness, and the display is very faint. Does anyone have any solutions in which I could fix this problem at home instead of having to pay money?

My computer is an Acer aspire 5740/5340 series

My daughter’s 1 yr old Dell laptop began showing the odd screen artifacts that you see in my attachment. It is as if someone took a marker and scribbled on the screen. She lives in another state, so I have only seen this picture; I am just trying to narrow the problem down for her. Any thoughts? Thanks.

A:Dell Laptop Screen Display Problem

That looks like a crack to me. I would try hooking the laptop up to an external monitor and see if the line is still visible. It it's not, then obviously something is wrong with the screen and it will need to be replaced.

I would try http://www.screentekinc.com

or

get the part number off the back of the screen and do a Google search or eBay to find a replacement. Replacing the screen is pretty easy and straight forward, esp. on Dells.

good luck

Code:
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (74)
Can indicate that the SYSTEM hive loaded by the osloader/NTLDR
was corrupt. This is unlikely, since the osloader will check
a hive to make sure it isn't corrupt after loading it.
It can also indicate that some critical registry keys and values
are not present. (i.e. somebody used regedt32 to delete something
that they shouldn't have) Booting from LastKnownGood may fix
the problem, but if someone is persistent enough in mucking with
the registry they will need to reinstall or use the Emergency
Repair Disk.

Arg4: c000014d, usually the NT status code.
So my best suggestion for you is to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 , with the SP1 included disc, obviously.

After the installation is done, keep away from any registry cleaner other than CCleaner.

Hi all
This is a problem that sometimes crops up with various laptops for reasons I can't understand.

I have ONE laptop where typing input sometimes causes the cursor to jump randomly all over the place. This is UNPREDICTABLE so making typing input such as a Word document totally impossible without looking 100% at the screen.

This behaviour I've seen on a few laptops with various versions of Windows.

However Disabling the Touchpad (I hate those anyway) seems to fix it.

The Generic synaptics touch pad driver seems to work for most laptops I've seen which show this behaviour. Use this driver to disable the touchpad and the problem goes away. There's a 64 bit version too.

Cheers

The one small niggle I have with it is that the screen seems slightly dull.
I have noticed that if you increase the brightness using the keyboard toggle, it always resets to a low brightness when you restart it.

I am just wondering does anyone know if this is normal, if there is a way to store the brightness setting or any other info? As I am planning to sell the laptop, but dont want to sell it until I know it is ok.

Recently, I have installed windows 2000, on an old dell laptop. Ever since, I have had problems with the screen area / res. The viewing area is only about 1/3 the actual screen size. According to the computer, this is not changeable and it only has two resolutions (640 x 480 and 800 x 600) and 16 bit colour.

Please can you tell me how to change the viewing area to fill the screen size.

many thanks.

A:Problem with laptop screen viewing size

You need to go to the Dell site and get the correct video driver for the laptop in Windows 2000.
If you choose support and downloads a "service tag" number on side of laptop or bottom should take you to the exact drivers or use model number to get them. The you will be able to change the resolution.
It is also possible if you use the full Windows Update from the Start Menu, you might also come up with the right video driver in the Drivers section of that. SP4 had many drivers in ti for 2000 as well, in fact the bulk of them which is why i always install the OS, update to Sp4 and then do Windows Updates when installing OS vefore doinjg anything else.

I think the only thing you can try is to end task on all programs and see if the problem continues. Since the problem is inermitant it is kind of hit and miss. Most likly it does need service. Sound like bad connections. When you notice it happening next hit ctrl+alt+delete. Highlight and end task on all programs except explorer and systray. You will have to end task one at a time

I aquired an HP TX1305US convertable touch tablet. it seems to have some issues with the touch screen. first of all, half the time, the touch doesn't work. anytime i flip the screen around into tablet mode, the pointer goes haywire and when i go back to laptop mode, the pointer is stuck in the corner, and it can't be moved. also, the application toolbar comes up and the only way to fix it is to reboot. i uninstalled the tablet functionality through windows and reinstalled and the problem is still there. additionally, when the touch screen was working, i had to use alot of pressure. i was kind of expecting it to work like an ipod touch or pda. i'm not sure if this could be hardware or software. the laptop has vista ultimate. i checked ho for all the updates and everything should be current. any ideas of what could be the problem?

She lives in another state so I have not seen the problem first hand; I am just trying to narrow the problem down for her. Any thoughts? Thanks.

A:Dell Laptop Screen Display Problem

Not sure if you mean the diagonal stripe as well as the mark - in any event the screen has been damaged, typically by being dropped or some other sort of inpact. Sorry. Is there a mark on the screen cover? If not, it might be worth a warranty claim on this one as the thing is only a year old.

Is this at all possible? Pretty new at the whole DIY breaking computers open to fix them stuff but i'm learning quick haha.

Here is the toshiba and the screen:

Here is the replacement screen for the Sony laptop(actually an LG screen):

What would I need to know in order to understand if this would work or not?

A:Replace Toshiba laptop screen w Sony laptop screen? Same size. 15.6"

It's not the size of the display screen, these are all fairly identical. It is the connector socket and the rail screw positions that will bite you.

I suggest finding an exact replacement. If you can't find one on eBay then you certainly will at a store like this one:

Hi All,

Hope you can help me.

I have a Compaq Presario C300 Laptop which i am working on.

The screen is faint so at 1st i thought it would be the backlight or the inverter. I changed the inverter to a new working one and no change was seen. I then changed the screen to a working one and that still didn't fix the problem.

I have hooked up the computer to an external monitor and it works fine.

I now am unsure what the problem can be other than the cable.

Can anyone else give me an idea as to what the problem is?

Thank you in advance.

My sister asked me if I could help fix her laptop because it kept rebotting on it's own I had a look and it did keep rebooting everytime Windows would load The laptop reboots itself about seconds of being able to access the Start menu desktop etc Reboots itself blue a flash after screen. Problem: Laptop of Just before rebooting the quot blue screen of death quot appears very quickly so quickly I can't read what it says then it reboots When I first got the laptop from her it had TONNES of viruses and spyware Thinking that was the problem I cleaned the laptop up and got rid of of the viruses and all Laptop Problem: Reboots itself after a flash of blue screen. the other harmful stuff this was all done in Safe Mode because it doesn't reboot itself in Safe Mode It runs a lot better now but when in normal mode it still reboots after a few seconds of loading Windows Now if this was my computer I would open it and check the hardware is seated correctly But I can't do this because it's a laptop and I'm not experienced with them at all hardware-wise I'm thinking it could be a virus or two is still on there causing it hardware problem although this wouldn't make sense because there are no problems in Safe Mode or it's overheating It's a Toshiba so the thing is on fire most of the time with it being so hot Any ideas BTW - The laptop is running XP Home Laptop Problem: Reboots itself after a flash of blue screen.

Same issue as everyone else, wish I would've looked a little sooner.  I've got a March 2012 model and this started just after warranty with a shadow that my kids got blamed for, Don't Touch Dads Laptop, feeling bad about that now.
It slowly moved across my screen until it wasn't worth using the built in display.  *** when you buy a laptop and it turns into a really expensive desktop.
The only upside is that i use a 50"  screen
If Dell could get passed the 7/10 rule of only 7 out of 10 products have to work correctly to meet expectations and goals just maybe they would have better ratings.

I was trying to set up my tv as an external monitor for my Toshiba Satellite laptop..but it wouldn't work so I just tried fooling around with the different functions in the display properties..I ended up selecting the 2nd screen and checking the box that says 'extend my desktop onto monitor' and then my laptop screen went black with my wallpaper on it, and then went totally blank with only my white mouse arrow. I can't click anything, and I think my screen is set on 2 monitors because the mouse disappears when I move it to both sides. How do I set it back to normal? or at least get my desktop back so I can fix this?

A:Acer Laptop Screen Problem-Inverter or Backlight

Normally when the backlight goes out, it will affect the full screen. It can flicker or go out completely. This can be checked with a flashlight held up to a text area on screen and looking for the contrasting image on the LCD. From the way you describe the working then stopping, it sounds to me like the inverter is building up a charge then letting go.

Hello, I have a Sony vaio PCG-71312L for around 2 years. After trying to install a program it freezed and didn't answer any commands, so i shutdown it by pressing the power button. When i tried to boot it, it went past "start" window to black screen only with mouse on it. I can turn on caps lock and num lock. I've tried loading default settings in BIOS, I've tried removing battery, removing and replacing RAMs, I've tried recovering after pressing F8 button, restoring it to last successful boot. After all this it's still black screen with mouse on it, did anyone have this problem, could you help me ?

Hi there I ve been having HW screen gameplay, Laptop black - goes problem crashes during this problem for quite a while now and I ve tried multiple amateur solutions but none worked I have a Gateway Laptop P u HW problem - Laptop crashes during gameplay, screen goes black FX series It s about years old now and I ve never had any real problems with it except for the hard-drive that I had to replace a year ago but that s normal In the last - months the computer started crashing when playing more demanding games What happens In the middle of the game the monitor shuts down but the computer stays on Usually the music sounds continue playing after a few seconds get into a loop no stuttering though Then I have to shut it down manually by holding down the power button After powering up everything is back to normal I ve found no pattern in the crashes Sometimes it happens after minutes sometimes you can play the same game for an hour and nothing happens A great example is Diablo III which usually crashes very fast but for example Company of Heroes rarely does Older games like The Longest Journey or even new games that are not graphics heavy never crash TLJ never crashed on me and I ve played it for hours Solutions I ve tried Replaced battery Replaced charger a friend has the same model of laptop but not as old Thoroughly cleaned the laptop from dust opened it up with a help of an IT tech Things I ve found The crashes never happen when the laptop is running on battery That s why I thought replacing the battery and charger would help It didn t At the moment I just play games on battery but that s not really an optimal solution I m sure you understand I don t think this is a temperature issue - sometimes the game crashes after minutes when the computer has been off for days before I suppose that s not really enough time for a computer to overheat is it The crashes only happen with games otherwise the computer is running normally and I d like to keep using it if I m able to solve this It still runs most of the newer games I want to play so I d prefer not buying a new one if I can help it I am attaching a zip file with my PC s metadata and a dumpfile from one of the crashes During the last few months there has been a plethora of them so I can provide more if anyone thinks there might be a pattern of a difference between them Preferably I m looking for a solution to this problem If there is no solution I d at least like to hear an explanation why is this happening just out of curiousity Thanks to everyone in advance Matej nbsp

A:HW problem - Laptop crashes during gameplay, screen goes black

Could be many issues:
Might need new thermal compound on CPU.
Are you playing games on your bed with the laptop?
Video Card might be going defective or not compatible with the games.
Try buying a cooling fan pad to see if it may help a little.

Suggest you check your display settings (config and resolution etc) and also see if there is a later display driver for Win 7.

Did you run Windows Upgrade Advisor before going to Windows 7 - note that the Win 7 upgrade may have installed an "OLD' display diver.

I have a Dell Latitude C600 laptop, and recently while booting up, I got a black screen telling me I need to hit F2 to enter Setup and re-enter the date. Now, this screen, as well as the Windows 2000 Professional loading screen, are sized as a rectangle centered in the middle of the screen that take up about half the available viewing area. There are black bars around the viewable area.

When I get to where I need to enter my Windows password, the screen size is correct at my preferred resolution. It is also okay when I'm doing things in Windows. As soon as I load up a PC game, however, the screen size returns to the small rectangle.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem? I've looked at all the display settings and can't find anything. It's also not the games causing the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Vista Display Problems

Hi, Your problem does seem to stem from the graphic driver update from Microsoft.
You uninstalled it, got desktop back, but now it looks like Windows 98.
In 'Search box' type 'appearance' (enter)
You should see a box with options about the quality of the display.
I would think you will have the option 'adjust for best performance' (A dot next to it)
That means (on a Laptop) you will have a minimum quality, but fast screen display.
It's still most likely you don't have the best Graphic drivers installed.
Tick the option, 'Let windows decide what's best for my computer'
That should give you a better display. (If no better then........)
You need to find out what graphics chip you have. In 'Search' box type 'dxdiag'
In the window you see, click on the Display Tab. Note down the NAME,
MANUFACTURER and VERSION of the Graphic chip. ( Please read #1 lower down)
'Google' that information and you will get to the makers site, (most likely Nvidia or ATI)
Go to 'downloads' and search for your option, get the best match you can see.
Download the package to 'Desktop' or somewhere you can find again.
Right click on it's icon, choose 'Run as administator', and follow prompts.
You might need to reboot, but your display should be 'as new'.

#1. (You may prefer this step) If you think drivers are wrong or old, download the program 'Drivereasy', run it, and it will find all the problem drivers. See if your network adapter driver, and Graphic adapter are in that list. Download and install. Hope that helps.
