I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,

I'm going to buy a new video card for my computer but I'm having trouble finding the right one. I'm not sure if my mobo uses agp or pci cards because most of the cards that i can buy are pci cards. I have my system specs up so if you can recommend any good cards i would appreciate it.

I'm looking for a pretty cheap card (Under $200) from here:

You have an AGP 8 port available, so why not use it?
The HIGHTECH ATI 2600PRO AGP 512MB 128Bit DDR2 D-DVI HDMI HDCP would probably work

I want to upgrade my video card so it can play and run 3d graphics, first of all i don't even know what kind of video card I have and what the manufacturer is. When i go to the display option in the direct x window it says for manufacturer n/a (not available). I just type in DxDiag on the RUN option and i see all my hardware names and stuff. Is there any other way i could find the manufacturer's name so i can go to the site and upgrade the driver, or find out what kind of card i have.

A:Help with videocard upgrade.

Use Belarc advisor, it'll tell you most things about your CPU. Such as your video card and motherboard

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

One thing that it wont tell you is what kind of PSU you have. I've no idea how to identify it, using software (maybe someone else knows of a program?) but if you havent upgraded your comp and its from a large company (dell, compaq, ibm, ect.) you can look up the stats for it online. Once you get those things im sure people will help you pick out a video card that will suit your needs.

come back and list your motherboard, ram, psu, ect...

A:upgrade my laptop videocard

No, you can't upgrade/change laptop video cards. Each laptop has a proprietary mainboard (motherboard) configuration to the specifications of the manufacturer.

Alienware laptops (certain models) are the only one that I know of that you can change the video card.

A:DV6 7300, Videocard Upgrade

CanG1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wanting to upgrade your video on your DV6 laptop and wanted to help. The basic answer is  -- it is not practical to do this. Your laptop does not use cards, soldered or otherwise, but instead, has the graphics chip mounted to the same system board as the processor.  While the board can be changed, this is a service center function and the cost to do so would likely exceed the cost of a new laptop, as the laptop has to be completely disassembled to do this. If you want to check this out yourself, here is the link to the Maintenance and Service manual:  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03591281 The system board information  starts on page 77. Here's information the the Service Centers:  HP Notebook PCs - Using a Certified HP Service Center to Repair a Notebook PC | HP Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution" -- to help others find the solution.========================================================================

You might want to check with the gateway on that one. I have worked with a lot of laptops and always exchanged them out with the same one. Sometimes there was an up grade but it never upgraded the graphics card. So yeah check with them

A:Upgrade advice for VideoCard/PSU on a slim computer

The www.newegg.com site is a great place for researching and buying video cards. I've bought 3 of them there in the last month.

You might want to open the case and see how much room there is and if you need a low-profile video card and if you need an AGP or PCI-Express model.

The heat sink models tend to use less power power than the fan models, so you might want to research both models.

I'm not a gamer, so some of the gamers out there can probably give you more and better advice than me.

My videocard (Radeon 8500) suddenly stopped working. Now each time I try to install the driver after a few minutes the screen just goes blank and that's it. I really need advice regarding how and if I can determine if that's software or hardware problem. Also can it actually be the problem with my motherboard and if so, how can I determine this? I don't have any spare videocard, so I can't check if the motherboard it ok this way. Thanks in advance for your help!

(I don't want to take the computer to the lab since checking costs money and fixing it costs probably more than bying a new one. If it's really the card I'll just buy a new one. On the other hand if that's a motherboard I'll buy a new computer altoghether. So I'd really need to find it out myself.)

About videocards (with a fan): if you use them normally (no overclocking), how long can you use them approximately?

A:using a videocard

Do you mean how long can you play a game or such, in a streak? If so, almost infinitely. Until it just breaks down because of its age or you fall asleep. I've done about 9 hours sessions with my computers. Just make sure it has a good cooling, yet, I don't know of many cards that have totally insufficient cooling. Well ventilated case helps a lot.
Or do you mean how long do they last, before breaking? If so, around 3-7 years.

Ok so i have a GeForce 8800GTS and its been workin amazingly ever since i got it. Last night i was playing guild wars and out of nowhere my pc just restarted and felt the inside of my pc and it was very very hot especially the card. Now i think the fan isnt working right but that isnt my problem. Ever since that happened my games arent running nearly as good. Guild wars now runs at 20-30 fps compared to the 60fps i was getting before. I just ran the lost coast video stress test and it was running at a whole 19 fps and i was getting around 50 before. This is scaring me til no freakin end. Can someone tell me whats going on? By the way i opened the side of the case and i have a heavy duty fan blowing inside and the card isnt too bad right now.

A:Videocard Help

It is possible the card was damaged by the overheating. It could also be possible the card is downclocking itself if it detects the fan is not running or if it is getting too hot.
You can use nTune to monitor the card temps.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc.In Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. Go to the HP Site and type in your service tag # or type in your make and model# Download the Audio driver and any other drivers you need for your machine. Also go to Start/Search and type dxdiag and run the tests for your Hardware to see if you are missing anything.

Hi Post,

What brand and model is the motherboard? We need to know if it has a 4X AGP slot ( I don't think it has a 8X AGP) in order to use a 6600 card.

Regarding the PSU, I'm very sure it won't be up to the task. 145W is very low these days. You need a quality 300W PSU to make it work properly. I just hope that compaq case can fit a normal ATX PSU, it MAY require a mATX PSU (hopefully not).

WHAT?!

being a major counter-strike geek, i would REALLY like it if someone could help me with this.

It's probably a wire from another connector inside your case and you can more than likely move it anywhere you like. Go to a retail computer or electrics store and buy yourself some cable ties to tie back any loose cables.

A:New PC - Any changes you suggest?

Make sure you get a quality power supply that will handle the load you will be throwing at it. A quality 500 watt unit would be a minimum.

Multicore is the wave of the future so you should be safe in going with a quad right now. 320GB is a decent amount of HDD space, don't worry about that. You might want to consider DDR2 800 instead of 667, especially for gaming and 3D apps as there really isn't much price difference. Just get Vista Home Premium and be done with it. XP Pro is about the same price.

Hi all

I hope that admin will allow this to run for a while. I love Windows 7 and have just sold my motherboard, CPU and RAM last night, so today is upgrade day. The situation is that I would like some advice on what to upgrade to. I currently have an extra Intel D965LT motherboard at home but I am unsure if I should use it and go for a higher end Core 2 Duo CPU or if I should buy an entry level Core 2 Duo, but then buy a motherboard that supports Quad Processors. Also, I am unsure how the Intel board will support W7 as looking at their Bios updates it is not showing anything for Vista or W7.

All suggestions will be noted.

Thanks All

A:New CPU, what would you suggest.

core2 duos work great with windows 7. Seriously fast. I wouldn't go lower end, middle to high would be better - you don't want to go low and regret doing it.
As for bios, I'm sure it wouldn't need an update to support windows 7.

I am currently running XP and my daughter accidently clicked on the virus pop up. I was able to restore to last good configuration and run malwarebytes and found 14 viruses and fixed. I then logged back on and tried to run spybot, avg and avast and none of them would run as the .exe file had been corrupted. Eventually I was able to get avast to reload and update but when I try to run it is its scanning with no files being scanned. It also causes my computer to freeze. I have run the rkill with no success. Any ideas?

A:what do you suggest next?

Hello and welcome. first avg and avast .. If both AV's are active they will conflict. Please post the MBAM log..The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system. Now run RKill....Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.Link 2Link 3Link 4Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.Do not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again.^^If you get an alert that Rkill is "infected", ignore it. The alert is just a fake warning given by the rogue software which tries to terminate programs that try to remove it. If you see such a warning, leave the warning on the screen and then run Rkill again. By not closing the warning, this sometimes allows you to bypass the malware's attempt to protect itself so that Rkill can perform its routine. Then run SAS:Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home UsersDouble-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the Scanning Control tab.Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. If it runs 7 it can run WDP BUT, win developer peview is just that. It isnt even beta yet. There is no support for it, there are a few bugs to be worked out, so why would you want to?

Your system has a single processor and the minimum amount of RAM nec to run WDP.

Hi Lens Pirate! Sorry this response is delayed, hopefully you've already found a solution but if not...

This list has a few options for USB wireless network adapters that have been tested and certified 'Compatible with Windows 7' (both 32- and 64-bit) by Microsoft. They're listed in no particular order, so you might want to narrow it down further by reading individual product reviews on a third party retailer's website. Good luck!

AMD Athlon 64 3500+

Asus A8N-E 939 socket for AMD CPU
win xp

previous videocard: XFX geforce Nvidia 7900gt

I would like to get a new videocard for medium-heavy games, but I have no idea which are compatible. What do I look for? Also, because the previous videocard had a fan that was broken, i'd rather have a videocard without a fan, is that possible? And what videocard would i better avoid?

Hello,

Question:
How can i make my card display 1360 x 786?

Situation:
Just rescently aquired an lcd tv (LG rz-26LZ55) with a native resolution of: VESA 1360 x 786. Now ofc it would be best to use the same resolution on my videocard (Asus 7600 GT) right? Problem is i can't .
The resolution options just show 1280 x 786 max. That's an odd thing cause the card supports up to 2048 x 1536 according to the box.

Information:
Device Description NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
BIOS String Version 5.73.22.15.01
Installed Drivers nv4_disp (6.14.10.8443 - nVIDIA Detonator 84.43)

A:Videocard information

Your new video card needs extra power from your power source to run. It probably takes the type of plug a floppy drive would take or it could use a power plug an older IDE drive would take. When you're looking at the fan on the card the plug will be on the upper right hand side.

A:Videocard Compatibility

Here are some PCI Graphics Cards that will work with your system.
Any of them will do fine. Just make sure you uninstall your previous graphics drivers, before you remove the old video card. If you already have a Video Card in your system, you will want to try to match the model. Don't mix ATI graphics cards and NVidia graphics cards!! Good Luck!

A:update videocard

It is going to be somewhat hard to give you a driver link when you have not posted what os you are using.

Next why do you want to update the driver? If you are attempting to do this to play a game, intel onboard type video is NOT intended to play games. It is for e-mail, internet, playing solitaire, etc.

Here is a link to the intel driver for xp however if you are using a different os, you need to download the driver for that os.

Hello;

A:think Videocard is going out need help & suggestion on new one

Hello and welcome to Techspot!

I'd say one of three things is causing your problems:

1. The ram on your video card has gone bad
2. Your video card is overheating (common on the 9800 pro). Open up your case again, but this time aim a house fan toward the inside of your computer. If this lessens the problem, you know it is an overheating problem.
3. Your PSU is failing on you. Download and install speedfan and tell us what it is reporting for your voltages on the 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails:
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/547-speedfan.html

What is your budget for upgrading? Give us that, and we can help you pick the best card. It would also help if you post your full system specs.

Hello, I decided to upgrade the video card from GT 640 to ASUS GeForce GTX 750 Ti. The problem is that, as I heard, BIOS might not detect the videocard and I'd just waste my money. I'd like to hear the expert's conclusion on this subject. Moreover, the PSU I have is 300W but the majority of people suggests to have at least 400W. Since GTX 750 Ti's TDP is lower than GT 640's, I'm quite curious if there's a need to upgrade my PSU. Thanks in advance. Feel free to ask me any information you need.

Hello, I recently bought a Radeon 9800 Pro video card for a new computer. Everything appears to have installed just fine. However, when I play video, on DVD in any software or in WinAmp, I get these short mysterious little flecks. They eventually clog up the screen. Why are these happening.

My brother has a near identical computer, and he doesn't have any problems with his video card. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the hardware via the device manager, but that didn't solve the problem.

Please see attached.

A:VideoCard Glitch

All the green spots off the actual video frame are part of the problem, along with all the black blotches on the video, though they didn't appear that way until I saved the file, for some reason.

Im gonna buy a new video card but i cant decide which... The price budget is 200$
some people told me the Nvidia 6800GT others said Nvidia 6600GT and some said ATI x700
Requirements are that it should be AGP 8x. Anyone know what i can use?
My memory Type is DDR so i dont know if it'll be compatible with a video card that uses DDR2 or DDR3?

and if anyone owns one of these can they tell me what they average on 3d Benchmark 01...?
Or their FPS in CS:S / UT2k4 at Max settings on both graphics and Resolution.
I need a 3d Benchmark 01 score to commpare with my old video card since i didnt use 3d bencmark 03.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. thx

I am in the market for a video card (PCI-E) i need to be able to buy it from dell.com... it has to be an ATI, it has to support SM 3.0 and i'd like for it to be under 250.00... im kind of new to the whole video card thing so please explain anything u can while making suggestions...

A:pick me out a videocard...

i can't imagine the advantage, if any, of buying from dell.com unless you need a specialized card (low-profile cars are sold elsewhere). i reccomend checking out tigerdirect.com and newegg.com

you're going to need to give us your system's detailed specs (include PSU ratings), your OS, and what you aspire to do with the new card (games, softwares you plan on running). without this information, i can't really tell you anything except to stick with good brands - gigabyte, asus, msi, ati, bfg (incomplete list, but more than enough variety there)

My videocard: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 (ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 (0x3150))

Have a HP Pavillion a523x desktop, with a AMD Athlon XP3000+, 2.10 Ghz, !GB processor , and an integrated VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP display adapter. Want to add a video card with at least 128 MB memory so that I can use 3D online programs and software. Can it be done. And, if so, any suggestions.
Thank you
I have XP Home Edition

A:Adding videocard

Here is the support site for the HP Pavilion a523x (PE529A) desktop.

You might want to add and save that site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.

It supports a maximum of 1 GB of RAM, so it looks like you've already maxed it out.

It has 1 AGP 8x slot and 3 PCI slots.

An AGP video card will give better performance than a PCI video card, so that's what you want to use.

That desktop is a 2004 model, so I'm guessing its power supply is 250 watts or less.

I've upgraded integrated graphics to video cards in several older Windows XP desktops, so I'll give you my 2 cents worth.

Stick with a heatsink model and not a cooling fan model.

Stick with a model with no more than 128 MB - 256 MB of video memory.

Stick with a NVIDIA chip model instead of an ATI chip model.

Here are some choices that I've selected for you to look at:

---------------------------------------------------------

Just something else I want to say.

If you have any thoughts of making that a gaming computer or using it for functions that are system-hungry and graphics-hungry, it won't happen.

Hey, I just bought a new video card for my HP pavilion p6040d, an Inno3d geforce 9500gt 512mb ddr3. It was when I was about to install it that I read about PSU requirements.
According to HP I only have a 250w power supply.
Will it be enough to support the card or will I have to upgrade to a higher PSU? the box and install kit does'nt mention anything about the PSU
Here are my specs:
Its a pre-built system HP pavilion p6040d
Windows 7 prof. 64bit
intel pentium dual core e5200 2.5ghz
2gb ddr2 ram
320gb SATA
intel GMA 3100 (integrated)graphics
and it has a super multi drive with lightscribe tech

Hello guys, I have just recently bought new computer gear. This is what im running now.
1. Asus A8n Deluxe-SLi
2. AMD Athlon64 3500+
3. Antec Smartpower 500w
4. ATi brand X1800XT (not overclocked at all)
5. 2 standart Ide harddrives
6. and 1 standard cdrom drive.
7. Last is my Aspire case coming with 2 fans. One in the back and the other on the door blowing air into the processor.

The thing is, I monitor my X1800XTs temperature alot and while i play games, it usually goes up to 70c-73c in temperature. Does this on games such as WoW and Age of Empires III. I really hate the idea of putting a water cooling solution on my videocard. Should I be worried about this 73c in temperature on my vgu or is this normal?

A:Got a new videocard but scared!

73C peaks for an X1800XT is incredibly low temp for an ATI core.

The R4xx and R5xx series cores have a thermal limit of 99C, and most will hit peak operating temps in the mid 80's. Most of the X1800/X1900's I've used, under heavy/extreme gaming load run comfortably in the 83-86C range.

So you're doing quite well with case cooling if yours doesn't hit the 80's!

If you take the mobo out of the case, does the card fit and stay in the slot? If it does then it might be an alignment issue between the case and the motherboard.

While boooted into Windows, right click an empty space on the desktop. In the menu that appears there should be an AMD Catalyst Control Center option. Click on it. Look through the menu to find the means to select the AMD discrete graphics option. Read the following HP document for more information on switchable graphics. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03048374

I experienced a little bit of what I believe to be a video card issue last night let me explain So while I was gaming World of Warcraft my computer totally locked up on me I had to cold stop it and reboot When I did so upon restart the Windows XP error help told me that I had a problem with the video card and recommended a download new drivers I ignored the suggestion and continued to play and about hour later the same thing Problems? VideoCard happened I did the same cold stop and reboot and this time downloaded the latest VideoCard Problems? drivers for my ATI Radeon Pro As I was navigating the web I noticed miscolorings in IE and came to the conclusion that I did have video card issues After a restart I booted the game up again and this time once it started up the screen went completely black So I left it overnight with the thinking that perhaps there was some cooling of the card issues I booted it up this morning and WoW worked perfectly fine for the short period I was playing I am not overclocking at all and I am wondering if cooling issues would be the reason for problems like this I have to go home tonight and get a flashlight in there to see if the fan on the card is functioning I have a feeling that it is not and I would also like to know if it is possible to replace the fan on the card or what other options you would recommend Thanks in advance PS I would put the system specs down but I do not know them exactly in that I am at work and I dont want to put the wrong info down What I can tell you is it is a Dell Dimension I bought about years ago THe only upgrades I have made are an increase in RAM GB and I upgraded the video card about years ago with not problems until now nbsp

A:VideoCard Problems?

I also have read that it may be the RAM I recently installed. I think the RAM I got could be bad... reviews I read have had problems. I will run the Microsoft Diag Tool when I get home to see if it may be that.

I got K-byte ram from Best Buy on sale because it was on sale... if it turns out to be bad, I will trade it (hopefully) for some Kingston, which is on sale now

Recently, while playing Spore (with new patch), my screen froze up and all I could see was a bunch of multicolored lines going from the bottom left to the the upper right of my screen. I thought it had to do with the patch but yesterday I was playing counter-strike and the same thing happened. I'm not sure if it's a card issue but my computer also freezes up completely when this happens and I have to turn it off manually. Any idea, guys?

I'm playing with 6800GT and the rest of my computer is pretty much up to date on everything.

A:Is my videocard damaged?

Thats a sign of the memory on the card getting too hot, or not working properly, a defective card.

Make shure case door is open and take a big fan against it and see if it happens again. If it does then uninstall drivers in safe mode, and reinstall latest forceware drivers,,, gl,,

Hello there,
I know almost nothing about computers. I feel that's a good way to preface my little request. I currently have a T3104 emachine (Specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/eMachines_T3104/4507-3118_7-31556256.html?tag=sub) and am looking to play a game that is about to be released (Ultimate Alliance, specifically.) I'm far from what one would concider a gamer, so odds are this is the only new game I play for the next one to two years. That said, I'm looking to spend as little as I have too... but more than the bare minimum needed to play this game. If I'm going to spend money on this, I'd prefer not to have it looking like ****. I'd say my range is in between $100-$200 dollars, hopefully ending up in the area of $150 or less.
Any help would be quite appreciated.

A:Help deciding on a videocard

I doubt very much that that pc will ever play a game like that!!!!

You don't even have an agp slot so you will only be able to run a pci graphics card!!!!
It's probably not possible to turn the onboard graphics off to help with performance with a new card!!!
And the pathetic little power supply unit (psu) would almost certainly die and take the mobo out with it!!!

As some of you may know, I am getting a new system in a month or so. The system is as follows:

Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz Dual-Core
ASUS P5N-SLI Motherboard
1GB Corsair Valueselect DDR2-667
Video Card (Haven't Decided yet)
Antec Sonata II case and PSU
160GB WD SATA HDD

I was wondering if I should just get a cheapie PCI-E videocard like a 7300 or X1300 for the moment when I get the compy and then try to survive with it until the DX10 cards come out (remember that if I buy a good one now, when dx10 comes out, it will take me almost a year to save the money again).

A:Videocard for new system

If you have the cash, get a X850XT or a 7600GT. Those cards are great, and should allow you to play most modern games, with good eye-candy, until real, trouble-free DX10 cards come out.

BTW, if we do again those 3D mark tests (remember?), I'm sure you'd trash my system
You'll build a pretty nice computer mate

A:How often to clean videocard?

Gauge your temperatures (idle and load, usually load will be effected much, much more) while it's spiffy and clean. When they get 5-10C higher(on load, 5C or so on idle, but keep in mind to factor in ambient temperatures) take a look inside your case. If it's really dusty give it a good cleaning.
