System shutdown error message

Q: System shutdown error message

This is the first time my computer is having this problem. It randomly shuts down every 20-30 minutes or so. A screen comes on with a big "X" in a red circle that states "Please save your work as windows needs to shutdown. Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly."

It then says the shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.

This is really annoying & frustrating as I'm constantly booted off my computer. It only gives you exactly 1:00 minute to save your work.

Can anyone tell how to fix this? I tried running a virus scan but it takes too long and it won't finish because my pc reboots before the scan is done.

Does this sound like an infection or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice or solutions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What kind of anti virus software are you running? Norton, McAfee, AVG? Its possible this is a software and not a hardware problem.

i posted already AUTHORITY System NT Message Shutdown in the Am I Infected subforum here so you can get an idea of what i've done NT AUTHORITY System Shutdown Message and the moderator told me to post here now here's a link to my previous post for your review http www bleepingcomputer com forums t not-sure-what-i-have i have windows XP pro and basically when i try to LAN a game with my brother who lives in a different state than me using Hamachi i get booted to my desktop in the middle of the game with a system prompt indicating that my system will need to shutdown and restart in seconds Hamachi is a program that creates a VPN which makes it seem as if i'm directly connected with my brother's computer through a router so that we're able to LAN if you read the link i've provided i've done multiple scans for malware and viruses but i was told it doesn't seem like they're issues now i seem to only get that NT AUTHORITY system shutdown message when i'm LANing with my brother and randomly during the middle of the game i'm able to access and surf the web fine without any trouble and my computer doesn't have that shutdown message if it's left alone either just when i'm LANing with my brother the issue is that i've LANed with my brother with the same game for awhile using this Hamachi program and never had any issues like this before i haven't gone to any weird questionable sites or installed any questionable programs either recently so i don't know what the problem is some people were telling me that maybe the problem is coming from my brother's computer because we were connected via the Hamachi client i'm not sure but then why would MY computer restart and not his any help is greatly appreciated

A:NT AUTHORITY System Shutdown Message

The automated shutdown message comes because something critical for Windows operations has terminated. As such, Windows can't keep running - so it shuts down on you.

The first step would be to check your Event Viewer for errors around the time that it shut down.
To do this, go to Start...Run...and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Click on the System log in the left hand pane, then scroll down the right hand pane looking for errors around/just before the shutdown.
Then do the same thing for the Application log file.

Post back with the results and we'll move on from there.

I started getting tons of popups (a situation we haven't had in a long time). I tried to run adaware and I could see in the first minute it found 174 modules. However, before it could finish, this System Shutdown message came on so I could not get rid of the bad stuff.

Maybe unrelated stuff... 1) Last week, I downloaded Microsoft updates (as per previous tech support suggestions) except Service Pack2. 2) Within the last several weeks my Palm desktop was corrupted and my Itunes was corrupted. Running adaware and spybot after these, however, failed to produce anything other than cookies.

If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.Gringo

When I shut down, I get an "initialization failed" error message containing "USRprbdA.exe". It appears this is a US Robotics software problem. This problem started appox. 5 months ago. At that time I was running a Verizon DSL modem made by Westell and had been for sometime. I recently switched to a cable modem which is RCA.
Haven't run a US Robotics modem for appox. 1 1/2 years. I checked my Device Manager and found the modem listed "US Robotics 56K Voice Win Int". Checked the Add Remove Software area and found no obvious software. I'm not sure why the problem started suddenly. It's more a personal annoyance than a real problem, but how can I fix the problem?
I appreciate any help...Dave

Right click on your My Computer icon and when that opens click on Manage and when that opens click on Event Viewer.

Have a look in there at your last shut down and see if anything untoward shows up.

try shutting down all running programs, including those in the task bar and see if you get that error message.

As for the song, they created a e-mail with html in it. Give me a bit and I'll see if I can find the code.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on an error message I get when powering down (pc running Windows Media Edition all updates installed). As the system is saving settings and powering down, I have been getting an error message that reads:

"ccSvcHst.exe - Application error
The instruction at 0x0000001 referenced memory at 0x0000001. The memory could not be read."

You click OK and the message goes away and the power down completes. Any ideas on what is the cause and how I could get rid of it? I can post a Hijack This log later today if that might help. Sorry if this is not the correct forum for this post.

Thanks for any help.

Hi All -Fixing next doors XP SP3 and it has a Very strange message only on shut down that reads exactly as followsPress <Enter> + <Right> Key to burn-in off - - - Then it will just keep showing the message while the screen is left onThe screen will then also change from blank to solid colors (Red Green Yellow White Blue Etc Etc)It has MBAM (just removed a few "PUPs") and MSE that detects nothing as wrong.I ran Defrag (well overdue) and Deleted Browsing history, as well as removal of a few useless programs and toolbars -The system runs quite well and it shows 90% Free space now. Any ideas on this very odd problem ??Thank You - EDIT -I have read it is something to do with the screen, but not sure what -

Hello,

since few days when the PC shuts down I receive the following message:

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\System Volume\001.dat. The data has been lost .This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.''

Then the PC hangs and I can switch it off only pushing the power button and keeping it pushed for some seconds.

What is on drive d:?

Is it a recovery drive?

If it is a recovery drive, turn System Restore OFF and delete all System Restore points - http://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-8-windows-rt-tutorials/10752-windows-system-restore-configure-restore-point-space-windows-10-8-1-8-7-vista.html

\System Volume Information folder is used for System Restore

Your post cited simply D:\System Volume\ folder -- "Information" is missing from the end, so it may be something different.

"other people are logged on to this computer data maybe lost"
What could be causing this and how do I remedy it?

A:Recieving error message when trying to shutdown

Oooh you are a meanmom! Kidding

This message is primarily seen when other users haven't logged off their profile with a common, or shared PC. Since they didn't log off, whatever they have pending could potentially not be saved. (They're the bad guy.) If they can't save and log off, Meanmom can't be responsible. A few iterations of this works well; just tell them you didn't know better.

If you have a gateway configuration -- meaning you have 2 or more computers that share a connection, when you turn off your computer all others disconnect, you might see this message. This means you're the bad guy. They were transferring something and you shut them down cold. I toss the typical 5 minute warning "Hey!! You have 5 mins and that's it!!"

PS: If you have 1 PC and you're the only user, we can help with user accounts; just holler.

For the third time in about three weeks Windows has had to shut down. The error message advises me to check for BIOS update with the hardware vendor and to disable caching and shadowing. (I checked with Dell and ran their automatic scans; they report all okay.) The details in the error message are:
*** Stop: OxOOOOOO8E (OXCOOOOOO5), OXBF90714C, OxB31149F8, OxOOOOOOOO
and
*** Win32k.sys Address BF90714C base at BF 8000000, Datestamp 49e87572

I do not know what this means, what it might be telling me about my system, nor do I know what I should do about it. I'm hoping someone can help me with this.::

There is an error message "behind" Windows that I see for a split second during shutdown. The Windows screen goes off and I see the message box with the large red "X" logo in the upper left corner, but it disappears so quickly when my laptop (ThinkPad T500) screen goes blank that I can't read the message. Is there some way to slow things down or interupt it long enough to read it? Thanks.

While shutting down WinXP Pro SP2, at the very end of shutdown just before the fully powered down state, I get the following runtime error message:

Runtime Error!
C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe

R6025
- Pure virtual function call

Anyone know if there is a list of likely causes for the above error message?

I recently began running the freeware IDS Prevx1R and suspect this may be the cause, but I'll have to uninstall it to know for sure. Anyone else have this problem running Prevx1R?

Recently, I installed Outlook Shutdown for my Outlook 2000 program and it works very well.

A minor problem has surfaced and it is that an error message pops up when I exit Outlook.

It is not causing any other problem and I just click "don't send" and it goes away.

I sent it to the author but could not copy the details from the Microsoft error message panel even though I could view them so he did not really get any helpful data from me other than that it was happening.

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

PS; It is a good program that does what it is supposed to do and still worth installing even with this problem.

If it would help the author to have the full error message, when it shows use ALT+PrintScreen, then paste the screenshot into MSPaint & send him/her the bitmap.

I searched all over too, cant find what it belongs to. But u can force Windows to end task all apps when u hit shutdown by editing the registry.

go to Start>Run type regedit and hit ok.

Then navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop look for AutoEndTasks double click on it and change the value to 1 then reboot.

Then it appears to be trying to close the program. After that, I get another message saying: End Program - sprtcmd.exe

Again, it appears to be trying to close the program. However, it will say the program is not responding. I have to keep clicking "End Now" in order to get my system to turn off.

Can someone please help me? Thank you.

I have a VOSTRO 1510 laptop from dell that I rarely use. I'm about to load some recording software and start using the laptop more often. Although the laptop seems to function perfectly, every time I shut down, right before the "Windows is shutting down" blue screen appears, an error message flashes and disappears before I can read it. Dell ran a diagnostic which showed nothing out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, Dell Support tells me that although we don't know what the error message is saying, something is probably wrong with the operating system and I should reinstall the XP SP3 operating system. I have never done this before and I'd like a second opinion. Thank you.

After I click send or don't send this box comes up and shuts me down.

The problem is intermitent. If I restart enough times it eventually doesn't come up. But sometimes it takes 3 or 4 restarts to finally get the comp to fire up.

I was working on my pc today, when an error message came up that said something like windows has encountered a fatal error and must shut down... if this is the first time you have seen this message restart, otherwise... it said something about it may be caused by low disk space... After restarting, now I just get a blank screen...nothing.. no beeps, no bios. The fan on the cpu spins and the light on the board comes on, but no output... I tried putting in the ram sticks one by one to see if one was bad. I plugged another power supply in to no avail... Any advice on where to go from here greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is not how to turn off Startups, which is one of the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. I would also use one of the light weight AV's given instead of Avast which can cause problems.

Boot into disk System Recovery Options to do a System Restore to before you ruined your Win7.

When windows loads, we get this error:
Runtime Error!
Program C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application"s support team for more information.
I click OK and another runtime message come up except the program is different
Program C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO\Media Music Server\SSSvr.exe
I click OK and then.... this appears
The instruction at "Ox77e778ce" referenced memory at "0x00394114" The memory could not be "written" Click OK to terminate the program

When windows does finally, slowly load, a System Shurtdown occurs within 2 minutes.

Does anyone know what is going on?

I have a Windows XP and have encountered this problem for the first time. A dialogue box comes up saying it will shut down and restart the computer in 58 seconds. I have dowloaded the necessary patches to prevent the blaster worm so it can't be that. The dialogue box says authority system, systems shutdown, system processor with the error code 1073740972. Any ideas what could be causing this? Cheers for any suggestions.

Hi,

I've just finished a new build and everything was fine.

I then put the machine to sleep for a few minutes. Hit the power button ? black screen. Forced it off.

Restarted. Get some dump files and now when I attempt a normal shut down I get a blue screen, new dump and a restart sequence. The screen says something went wrong with your PC and needs to restart citing SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.

Any help appreciated. File attached.

Edit: The minidump points to ntoskrnl.exe i think. The machine runs perfectly fine. It only happens when I tell it to shutdown. I installed programs and updates and it restarted fine. It's only on shutdown/sleep.

Turning off Windows 8 faster startup fixes this problem but I'd like to use that feature.

A:System Service Exception - Error on Shutdown

Hello Dominic B,

You say turning off fast startup fixes this issue; yes? So did you do a UEFI or Legacy BIOS Win 8 install? Also, do you have multiple fast boot options in your BIOS? What is the make/model number of your motherboard?

A:Virus Help: Authority NT error: system shutdown

Hello and Welcome.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code:

@shutdown -a
Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:

Each time your machine threatens to shutdown, double click on fix.bat & it shall abort the shutdown procedure. That should ease some of your current difficulties.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Hello,
I've been getting this message "CPU fan has failed. System will automatically shut down" since yesterday on my HP Pavillion a1101n when I start up my computer. I've Googled this problem and found out that by pressing f2 and f11, when I see the message on the screen before it disappears, will solve the problem. I've done so and my computer exited the message screen and I was able to view my desktop. My computer stayed in this state with full functionality for about 10 minutes before automatically shutting down. I then turned my computer on again, and the message was still there. My CPU fan is still working, but making weird noises. Is there a way I can fix this problem or is buying a new CPU fan my only option?

Thank you =)

A:"CPU fan has failed. System will automatically shutdown" message

What did the google searches tell you about the fix , apart from hitting the F keys ? i.e. are you intentionally ignoring a genuine system warning or is it reported as a BIOS error in the posts you found ? It sounds like the former so either clean out the fans if accessible or replace them ( a good clean is as effective and a lot cheaper and easier than replacement) - unless the overheating is being caused by a faulty component .
If it does happen to be the latter (doubtful given that your system still closes down after a short time) update your BIOS as HP should have cottoned on that there is an issue and sorted a fix for it .

Please run the SFDT again and let it run its course it can take 15min at times to collect all the data necessary.
There should be eight files generated not including the dumps.

Five out of the seven uploaded bug checks blame an outdated driver, while the other two are a TDR.

A TDR (Timeout Detection Recovery) is not a bugcheck in the true sense in that something
has went terribly wrong in the kernel which forced the machine to crash.

Timeout Detection & Recovery (TDR) = "Display Driver Stopped Responding and was Recovered" is a useful feature that started in Vista and is also in W7 that allows the OS to try and recover from a video timeout so that the system does not crash to a bluescreen. Symptoms included a screen flash with the TDR message appearing one or more times or the screen blinking out to black. If the system cannot recover it will crash (Stop Error 116 typical). The issue is that the video card is not responding as expected. The solution is in the: why?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to TDR errors. But the problem is usually found in the local environment (your computer). Finding the cause is a matter of checking every possible cause and uncovering the culprit through a simple process of elimination. By methodically running down a checklist of diagnostic procedures you should be able to find the cause and can correct it.

There are numerous reports of hardware solutions to TDR's. The most common are:

Poor Cooling
Problems with the power supply
Overclocking Issues
Bad System memory or incorrect memory timings
Defective PC Components

   Tip
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

When done with the testing procedure take a picture and upload it here.
Test for thermals and stability:
Download HWinfo and post a Screenshot of the summary window, one at idle and another while putting load on the PC using Prime95 for the CPU side and Furmark for the GPU.Before running Prime95 make sure to enable Round-off checking (see 1st post under the tutorial).

A:Solved: NT Authority System error 1073741819 - Pc Shutdown

Try starting up in Safe Mode. When the computer turns on , immediately begin hitting F8 like mad until you get a screen where you can use the arrow keys to select how to start up. Use "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking".

If you can boot up fine without the error, then you have a program installed which starts up along with Windows and crashes, causing Windows to shutdown. Check your installed programs, especially anything you might have removed/added right before this started happening.

If you can't start up in Safe Mode either, there may be something wrong with your Windows installation.

Hey people!
I've got an otherwise great dual SATA drive caddy, USB 3, made by ThermalTake, labeled SuperSpeed. It works just fine to let me use a single USB 3.0 cable to attach 1 or 2 drives to my system. My problem is that when I restart or shut down, the system comes back after the restart/reboot to inform me that "a problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly." Here's the Reliability Monitor info:

I can avoid this problem simply by using the "Safely eject" utility to disconnect those USB drives before restart or shut down. Is that my only option? Is there some kind of shutdown script I could write that would automate that process? My problem is I don't always remember to clean up those drives before hitting restart (I hardly ever shut down).
Inquiring minds wish to know. TIA for your ideas and input.

Hi All,

I have an HPE 520 NL, x64 desktop, windows 7 home premium SP1. I have had many intermittent startup problems, with some elements hanging at shut down. I'm not well enought versed in this to figure it all out myself -- too computer illterate. Everything from DCOM servor error 10010, to Easybits service failing to start, to the print spooler failing to share (error 2114), to Ralink UPnP Media Server timeout, etc. No system errors with sfc scannow, no hard disk errors with chkdsk.

I am attempting to upload the Event Viewer administrative logs as a zip file and hope that it works.

If anyone can advise, I would be very, very grateful!

Thanks so much,
T

A:Many startup repairs, DCOM server error, system hang on shutdown, etc

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to gather clues to the problem, disinfect, try fixes like the System File Scanner (if necessary from boot), and help optimize Win7 so it performs best.

But if you're running the original HP factory install you should know that is the worst possible install one can have to begin with, with the worst load of bloatware that throttles WIn7 native performance. For this reason most tech enthusiasts choose to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware

sub-forum: guides & solved issues

The above forum has information on how to use Recovery Console & Windows XP CD to restore the OS. Caution, I recommend full backup to a 2nd disk. Caution, don't enter 'r' to the first decision point. Caution: next decision made should not reformat the partition. If you have the ability to clone the hard drive, then you have a spare should recovery be re-done.

Other posts recommend configuring computer to a minimum: the boot hard drive, cdrom, and 1 memory module (256MB is the minimum for XP). This is an easier first step before reloading anything.

Caution: oem restore bombs you back to out-of-the-box conditions. All data & applications are overwritten. This is different from above restore.

You did not indicate what significant changes occurred preceding the problem. Is the hard drive entering old age? Was the disk re-partitioned? Were applications closing/freezing in the days leading up to this?

Since you didn't mention what version of windows you use, i'll assume it's windows98.
In that case, check the autoexec.bat and config.sys files for symantec entries ( usualy those are left behind ) and put a rem in front of symantec entry
for instance if you see in the autoexec.bat file the following entry
C:\Progra~1\Symantec\Symevnt.368
put a rem in front of it, and it should look like this
rem C:\Progra~1\Symantec.....
Save and exit.
If that doesn't work , then use the search tool in windows and locate the System.ini file
Once you locate it, go are and open it up with notepad. Once open locate the C:\Progra~1 entry and delete it ( i recomend, making a backup copy of the system.ini file before anything else).
Save and exit ( make sure the file type will be " All files" not " . txt ( since notepad will try to save it as system ini.txt file.

Hi, I have this message
16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem
path to the program that you are trying to start or install
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

so I went to Microsoft and followed their instructions, but then they said to creat this file, which I did, then paste it into this.

Right-click the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder

But I don't know where to find this.
Can you please assist me .
Thanks
Sue

A:System 32 error message

Hi seijuro_hiko

Welcome to TSG!

I have split your post off into your own thread and moved it to the Security foeum. In the future if you have a Question/Problem please start a "New Thread". It get's too confusing trying to address two different people's problem in the same thread and you may get overlooked.
Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it or UnZip it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

A:system halted error message

There are no "security" issues evident in the Scanlog.

In Win9x I've seen this "type" of error associated with web cam or usb related installations.

Did you install anything new recently? How long has it been happening?
Looking at your startups, I'd be suspicious of the scanner.

Probably useless, but interesting:

I engaged the Microsoft chat service to fix system restore. I can't create a restore point. I tried sfc; chkdsk with /f; Microsoft virus scan; group policy; and a lot other solutions. Microsoft said they would fix the problem for $99.00. I think the error message pertains to a Visual Studio or VB application. My C# and C++ are kind of rusty, but if thats what it takes, so be it. Can anyone make sense of the error message? The only alternative is to pay the $99.00.

A:System Restore Error Message.

Hi dittybop

From what I can see, you're trying to use System Restore Manager v2.0 to do a "System Restore". This isn't the built-in feature of Windows. Did you try using the built-in feature of Windows instead and see if it works? The issue right now is the program that you're using to create the Restore Point, not the System Restore service itself.
