I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to TSF

I guess, in this day in age, be thankful you have job. I guess the "boss" expects you work since he/they are paying you.

What you are asking we can't help. You basically asking for a work around a
restriction that has been placed on you PC or a requirment of the employer.

Hi,

I'm looking for a simple Windows Vista desktop software that runs in the background that just keeps a log of the time that my laptop is on and running. I just want something to track the number of hours I work each day. I don't need to keep track of the tasks. And I don't want to have to turn on and turn off the program -- I want it to be completely automatic (but not a memory hog).

I've searched download.com. But all the software there seems quite complicated (ie, it requires me to enter in tasks, etc). Perhaps I searched the wrong thing (I searched "desktop time tracker").

Does anyone know of anything like this?

Thanks for the advice.

A:Looking for simple time tracker software

Hi, in XP it used to tell you "system uptime" now it records only "system boot time" still you can easily work out how long you have been on. Go to start accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator" at the prompt type:- systeminfo press enter

Hi folks,

In power options you can switch off the monitor only by time idle. I would like to be able to set a time of day. I can't see an inbuilt way of doing this, so does anyone know of a good application which will allow me to do this?

Thanks in advance,
Ox.

I would like to know if there is a way to log the idle time on a computer. We have approx. 250 computers (XP Pro sp2) in which I think they are very under utilized. I want to be able to only log the amount of time that the system idle is 95% or above.

Is there a way to do this per machine, or by the server (2003), or GPO's?

Thanks

whats the point here? to monitor work output? or is this an electric usage issue?

my point being, with on/off continually, will abuse a systems components more than lag time.

I'd like to create a GPO to lock a user's workstation after 15 minutes of inactivity, and force a log off after say 4 hours of inactivity. I figured out how to do both independent of each other, but can't figure out how to enforce both at the same time. Suggestions anyone?

Hi ppl,

i'm wondering whether is possible to measure PCs idle time somehow ?!?!?!?!
in other words to monitor how long a user really needs the PC !!

Has anyone done this before, if so - how did you do it !?!?! Is there any utilities/tools that can be used to perform such a task ?!?!?!

Your earliest reply would be appreciated

A:How to Measure Idle Time

You can check how long the computer has been online, you could check how long it has been using electricity via the electric meter[complicated]and if using a battery harder still. To know how long it has actually been idle [by which I'm assuming you mean not in use/not on] you probably need CCTV and whether that's legal or not depends on your local laws.
Maybe someone else here has another idea.

Hey guys,

I've noticed that often when my computer has been idle for a while (say, long enough for the monitor to switch off), my HDD indicator light will get really active. I'm not really sure what could be going on since I've got auto-defrag turned off.. I wondering if it could be MSE running scans.

Let me know if there's other info you'll want to see.

Best,
Eamon

A:MSE Idle Time Scanning?

Hello Eamon,

Since this is happening during idle times, it may be the index running in the background to rebuild and update itself. It's normal for it to run like this during low or idle computer usage.

My CPU is constantly jumping to 50-100% usage just from opening a web browser or even just staring at the computer doing absolutely nothing. Scrolling up and down on a website is even slow and choppy and makes the CPU activity skyrocket. Here are some screen shots showing processes from all users and my system specs are in a text file attachment. Does anyone know what might be causing it to act like this? Is it just too old or what? In these screen shots there isn't anything running other than task manager and paint! Why are there so many copies of the process "svchost.exe"?

I am having a real problem tracking this problem down. The machine behaves perfectly during normal use but if a I walk away and leave it, typically, after about 50 minutes I get a BSOD. I have tried starting in Safe Mode (seemed as though this fixed the problem although I can't be sure). Tried running MSCONFIG in diagnsotic start up and this also SEEMED to work. I had some mapped drives to my QNAP NAS and thought that might be the problem (I know W7 can misbehave with Samba shares) and so I disconnected them but the problem is still there. I attach the zip from the Diagnostic Tool. BTW all hardware has undergone extensive soak testing and I believe the machine is running well under specification in all respects. Please help.

I switched right after getting all the positive feedback. OMG it rocks.
It is faster out of the gate than IE ever was and I just found a little tweak guide here today and I am even faster now. WOW.

I do have one issue, seems if I leave my system idle for a few hours I can't get FF to launch, keeps tellin me that it cant find the FF "Google" homepage.

I also cant seem to open any of my bookmarks in leu of it, thinkin it may have been just an issue with the homepage at the time, but nope, still wont load.

The only solution is to restart my machine. PITA, if ya ask me.

Maybe it is a setting in my system?

Seems that perhaps your internet connection gets suspended. Are you on dialup, DSL, LAN? There may be a setting in the connection wizard that needs to be altered.

A:Solved: Idle time spyware

Hi, Yup- as long as the pc is on and connected to cable or DSL service/modem you sure can be infected... How about doing this, which may help us spot something, AdAware etc does not get rid of or detect everything...

Would like to have you post a log from HijackThis, a program (very tiny) that we use to see what problems exist.

There are directions here to do it: There are .zip form and .exe form, take your pick.

Download it here:

http://radiosplace.com/

Or here.
It's a direct download so be ready with the folder for it.

Basically, you create a new folder, the desktop is OK provided you make a folder, name it something like HJT, and download TO that folder, run hijackthis.exe from there. If there are users of the computer who might start HJT and use it, hide the program in a folder elsewhere!

First open a reply here in your thread to have it ready.
Run Hijackthis.exe, and
Select the "Scan and save a log" button...

When it is done scanning> the Save box will become available, save the log as hijackthis.txt which will open with Notepad. Hit the EDIT> Select All then the EDIT>Copy button at the top of your log, Go back to TSG, and click once in the blank reply space, then go to the top of your browser window and select EDIT>Paste.
Please do NOT use HJT yourself to remove anything, most of what it shows is good and needed by the system>
Post the HJT log here in this thread.

I've sat down in front my computer and found that it has rebooted. I was not using the computer at the time. I leave my computer on 24x7. The last thing I changed was adding "Microsoft Security Essentials".

The whole hard drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt.

Here is the error I got once I logged in

BCP2: 00000000001A5633
BCP3: 0000000000000008
BCP4: 00000000001A5633

Resource and Performance Monitor notes the error "The device, Photosmart C6100 series, is disabled. If this device is no longer used it may be intentionally disabled. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ROOT\MULTIFUNCTION\0000."
It also says "...has not recorded and anti-virus product." I thought that was what "Microsoft Security Essentials" was.

Thank you for your help.

A:BSOD 2nd time while computer was idle

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (Cx05) probably a driver.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have a Raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5-7 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver Verifer

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition.
Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is.
But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver.
Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows.
If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.
Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like.
From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

If you are using win 8 add these
- Concurrency Stress Test
- DDI compliance checking

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thanks to JGriff2 & Usasma.

I have 3 computers connected to my router, the Linksys WRT54G V8 with the latest firmware. I also had problems with my wireless connection so I decided to move to wired about a few days ago. 2 of the computers connected are desktops with XP whereas my laptop is on Vista Home Premium 32bit(if that makes a difference).

At first, we used to get disconnected whenever someone picks up the housephone when it rings, we seemed to solved that problem somehow but a new one arose. I tend to go idle a lot when I'm using my laptop, and everytime I come back from being idle (2+) hours, the whole network gets disconnected and we have to wait a few minutes before it recconects. What gives? Any suggestions are appreciated.

A:Loose internet after idle time

I don't know if this is your issue, but it might be.

I had a similar problem, but I figured out that the problem was caused by the screensaver coming up. After that the computer didn't connect to the internet. I disabled the screensaver, then it worked fine.

Another thing, when the connection drops out, try pulling the cable that goes from the modem to the PC, wait until you hear that "Device has been removed" sound, then plug it back in, might save you restarting the computer.

A:Windows crashes during idle time.

Generally when windows freezes when left idle, it is a problem with the theme (Oooh you are running style XP) specifically the screensaver.
Try resetting the theme to windows classic and the screen saver to none and go to power management and set to always on and never turn off on all items.

Does it make it to hibernate or sleep and fail to wake?
I get the impression that you are saying you do not use these; but maybe you are just denying they could cause it because you like them (they were after all designed for laptops to conserve power and extend battery life; not for PC s for people who do not want to power down or reboot).

It could be a video driver problem or hard disk problem (windows runs mini defrags when the computer is left alone. If you have bad sectors or if you have encrypted files or if you have a virtual cdrom it can cause problems with this ).

as above. i need a 3rd party app that helps me track idle time (i.e. no mouse clicks/keyboard), so that i can know the optimum amount of time to set the computer to sleep thereafter.

suggestions please? couldn't find anything on the net.

A:tracking AVG computer idle time?

Only one I found quickly that was free. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Idle-Monitor.shtml

Never used it, can't vouch for it. Didn't spend but 2 minutes looking. So there may be more if this one doesn't do what you need.

Greetings I have a trouble with my scanner connected via USB When attached to USB port it is detected fine and works and everything is fine But after longer period of being not used the scanner looks as not connected at all full computer restart doesnot fix this - not responsible to pressing buttons on the scanner not responsible to scanning request Only what makes idle time.. Losing scanner after it reactivate is physical unplugging replugging the USB cord Firstly I thought that it relates tom some USB power saving feature but finally I don't think so beside it other devices plugged to the same hub don't fall into this deep sleep ie they are ready even after longer time being idle printer for exaple Just for the record in Power management advanced settings optional suspension of USB devices is Enabled but I don't think this does matter I don't want to disable it anyway I find this considerably uncomfortable any sign of this issue can get resolved

A:Losing scanner after idle time..

How long untill the scanner goes idle?

Disable Power management advanced settings optional suspension of USB devices as a test.. You can always re-activate it.

It does sound like this is the problem though. Disabling the USB's power management will probably fix the problem.

Hi,

I have a number crunching program I am writing in FORTRAN 95. It compiles to an .exe and it takes ages to run. So I was wondering, is there any way of getting it to run in only the system idle time? So I can go on working with it running in the background. Rather like using the nice +19 command in UNIX.

I have win XP prof and win 95 computers

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sharker.

Hi,

I reformatted so I lost the logs for now, but it keeps happening when I let the pc sit idle (e.g. overnight).

I set the power options to performance mode - still had the issue
Set the hard disk to never turn off - still had the issue.

Any ideas?

A:BSOD only when PC sits idle for random time.

Hi Twisty.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

Hi, i am getting a BSOD. I have done a little research thinking that it might be a bad video card (I own an NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT on v340) or some bad memory(running 4 x 1GB). I am not exceptional at reading dump codes or anything like that so I went and found that I could upload my files and receive some help. If you guys need any information more than this please let me know.

Hello and good evening to everyone.
im new at this forum . my name is avi and im from israel.
i saw another thread running around here regarding slow folder opening time: slow opening folders and files
well, i seem to be having the same problem.
in addition to that i noticed that lately my windows also had a pretty long idle time untill the pronter starts to print - and i think its from about the same time the folder thing started. i have a good pc. 4 gigs ram, amd phenom 9950
anyway, i have kaspersky Av which didnt recognize trojan Win32/Bumat!rts , i also tried Avast - nothing. let's say u dont have any suggestions - if i over-install windows on top of this one - without formating the system - will it solve the problem?

thanks alot and i hope that some1 could help me

Hi avi and welcome

Lets see if we cant find out what the current problem is before we think about re-installiing.

First I would like to have you take a look in event viewer. type event viewer in search. go to the windows logs>application tab.
You are going to be looking for errors (red in left column) that have app hang, app crash, or printer in their description
There are going t be a bunch of them so you may want untill teh next time the printer takes a long time to print. that will give you less to look thru.

When you find errors that are relevant note the event ID and source code and let us know what they are

Hope this helps

So I have been trolling around for a few days attempting to solve this issue during BSOD Problems time machine with idle on my own but to no avail I have run the BSOD Dump amp Problems with machine BSOD during idle time System File Collection app as well as the System Health Report both zipped and included I have never quot seen quot the BSOD happen on this machine I just come back to it and it has happened so I am guessing it is happening during an idle time and isn't heat related so much as RAM SLEEP ETC This morning I ran the quot powercfg -h Problems with machine BSOD during idle time on quot command that some have recommended but I don't have a whole lot of faith in it This seems to be happening about once or twice a day now everyday and I can't seem to find a reason why This is a Gateway machine that is a bout a year old running OEM WIN HOME x with the original install Everything was peachy until about a week ago Not sure if this is relevant or not but recently while watching youtube or listening to MP s I was getting a very annoying stutter sound in the audio I disabled one of the two audio drivers to see if that would help did that yesterday but I am not sure if that is related to this issue Also you will see in the report it saying I don't have an antivirus installed that isn't true I do run Symantec Corporate I also ran MDSCHED and rebooted to see how the memory did and it reported no errors Any thoughts Thanks in advance

I have never "seen" the BSOD happen on this machine, I just come back to it and it has happened, so I am guessing it is happening during an idle time and isn't heat related so much as RAM/SLEEP/ETC.

This morning I ran the "powercfg -h on" command that some have recommended, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in it. This seems to be happening about once or twice a day now, everyday. and I can't seem to find a reason why.

This is a Gateway machine that is a bout a year old running OEM WIN HOME x64 with the original install. Everything was peachy until about a week ago.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but recently while watching youtube or listening to MP3s, I was getting a very annoying stutter sound in the audio. I disabled one of the two audio drivers to see if that would help (did that yesterday), but I am not sure if that is related to this issue.

Also, you will see in the report it saying I don't have an antivirus installed, that isn't true. I do run Symantec Corporate.

I also ran MDSCHED and rebooted to see how the memory did and it reported no errors.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!!!!

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
I would also remove Symantec if possible as it is frequently the cause of BSOD's

My keyboard, or maybe the ability to type is lost after idle time, sleep mode. I lose all ability to type into fields and I lose the ability to shutdown, restart my computer by accessing the start menu. I get the following usually non stop action happening in my open fields used for text with the cursor pulsating -------------------------------------- I have to restart by the laptop power button, un hook my 2nd computer screen. Once up and running i can re-hook the screen and start typing. But will loose it once I go idle for more than 10 minutes. Any ideas?

A:BSOD with REGISTRY_ERROR after 4 minutes of idle time

Hello Brian and welcome to 10forums!

I've looked throught some of your BSODs and all seem to be about the same REGISTRY_ERROR or also known as 0x51. And since you clearly have done some troubleshooting for us I will post what I believe will solve your issue.

Your BIOS is old and I believe that updating it might solve your issue, so please without further ado please head on over to the Gigabyte support download page:
GA-Z170-HD3

And download the F6 BIOS file, if you are unfamiliar on how to perform the BIOS update:

Dose anyone have an idea on how to log out users that are idle on Windows 7?

I work for a company that has computers in general areas, anyone can walk up and login and use it for business. Many of my users don't log off and later when they change their password these machines lock out their AD accounts. I was thinking that we could use the group policies that are used for terminal services to log out after being idle for x amount of time.

Thanks
Aaron

Hi there, I normally leave my computer on overnight so I could do things such as defragging, virus scans and sometimes downloading.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, which I installed 3 days ago as I got a new hard drive. The system was blue screening since then, so I'm guessing it's not a faulty hard drive, OS or memory (Replaced memory and done 20 hours of memtest86+)

I bought this machine about 7 months ago, but since then I have replaced the motherboard, memory, graphics card, CPU cooler and hard drive.

It only seems to bluescreen when idle, like when all it's doing is downloading on uTorrent or has finished doing a defrag.

According to bluescreenview, it has been caused by dxgkrnl.sys, atikmpag.sys and dxgmms1.sys . It was these causing it before the reinstall as well.

A:BSOD when idle for a long period of time.

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Hi All, A little stumped...
My laptop has been working fine up until now. It was only purchased November last year so not even a year old yet.
When it's left idle for more than 30 minutes it freezes up and crashes, can't do anything with it, have to hold the power butting to power down and reboot.
Highly annoying as it can't just be left and means I have to keep it busy when streaming films and music.
Has anyone got any fix or advice on this one?
Found a few other threads with people having a similar problem but no fixes.

A:Laptop Freezes/Crashes After 30 minutes Idle Time

Hi Bobbie, welcome to 7F

You could try, and go to >Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options and create an Always On Power plan that you would have to switch to before you go off to do other chores or errands.

But, there could be bigger problems here, and I would suggest that you run http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html so we can get to the cause of your problem.

friends
I have a rig I use occasionally, as HTPC and occasional mule work, file service, etc.
I would like to not have it simply sleep when I have left it running and not returned, but rather have it shutdown properly.
Is there a way to do this within win7 controls, or is there an aftermarket, shareware, or scripting way to do so?

thx
z

A:Power Mgmt: Is there a way to Shutdown after idle time period?

Create a batch file and link to it with Windows Task Scheduler and have the scheduler run whenever the computer has been idle for xxxx seconds/minutes.

In the batch file:
shutdown /s /t 300

Shuts down the computer in five minutes forcing all applications to close. You can change it to less time if you want. 300 seconds is five minutes arbitrarily chosen.

Thank you and have a wonderful day boys and girls!

Do the exact same steps for chkdsk /r but instead of typing in sfc /scannow type chkdsk /r.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I see that on both dumps Motioninjoy was running. Remove that ASAP. I've tried using Motioninjoy before and it corrupted many system files so i had to re-install. The damage is maybe already done but remove Motioninjoy competely. If you want another tool for emulation what are you using? An Xbox 360 or PS3 controller?

Hi,

A friend got this computer that is constantly crashing/freezing many times a day almost everyday after being idle for some time. Its random sometimes is 5 minutes, 10, 15 and so on.
The computer is a bit old, just used to browse the web, print and all that pretty basic stuff.
Doesn't have many programs installed, its pretty clean (or not...)
He said its been like that since ever.

I tried everything I could think of:
-Updated all the drivers
-Disabled Hibernation/Sleep/Standby
-Disabled Screensaver
-Disabled the "turn off hard disk after.." featured
-Installed latest windows updates
-Checked hard drive for errors (no bad sectors or anything)
-Ran SFC
-Checked temperatures (all good)
-Ran memtest86 (all good)

So I'm out of ideas.... I think the only explanation would be some driver or some software messing up...
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

A:Windows 7 BSOD/Black screen after being idle for some time

Hi .

Regardless of the fact that the hardware should not have Windows 7 installed on it, have you considered
an infection?

   Warning
The Following Method Should NOT Be Performed On An SSD!
Testing the HDD:
Perform a Disk Check | Disk Check- Scroll down to OPTION TWO of the tutorial and use the /R switch in the CHKDSK command | chkdsk C: /R.
Then Post the Disk Check results following | This Tutorial.
Once back in Windows, download Crystal Disk Info and post a screenshot (multiple shots if you have more than one drive).
Download SeaTools for DOS if you don't want to use a CD to test the HDD you can use YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator to create a bootable USB (instructions are found at the bottom of both pages).
If SeaTools for DOS is unable to recognize your HDD:
Visit HDDdiag and follow the instructions | Or follow the instructions below.
If SeaTools For DOS does not recognize the drive;
Boot into the BIOS using the *Fx key.
Look for an entry called SATA Mode (or something similar), it should be set to IDE / AHCI.
It's probably set to AHCI which is why SeaTools doesn't recognize them in the DOS environment.
Set it to IDE then save and exit usually by pressing the F10 key.
Now boot into SeaTools and it should detect the drives.
Start the Long Test and let it run.
Upon completion don't try to boot into Windows as it will only result in a BSOD, go back into the BIOS
and change the SATA setting back to what it was in the first place.

*Popular BIOS access keys.

I have just purchased a new All In One Px30t and I have 2 issues with it which are driving me nuts.

I have a mouse battery that dies after 24hours and the Screen goes black after a few minutes of idle time.
I have changed the settings for the Screen Saver, the Power Options etc everything I can think of it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Also can anyone point me in the direction of an Online Manual for the model.

Hello guys,

I have a problem with my computer that I cannot fix, I recently bought the AverTV Capture HD and plugged it into 1 of my free pci-express slots.

Now my computer takes like 20 extra seconds to boot to desktop, I replaced the card to another PCI-Express slot but the problem persists, when I remove the card it boots like before, with no IDLE.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-x58-UD5, latest Bios, latest drivers etc...

I don't know if it's the card or maybe the motherboard or just Windows 7.

This is a Winbootinfo screen to show you the IDLE time between the bios screen-win7 booting screen and @desktop.

Thank you guys I hope you could help me out I don't know what to do >_<!

I recently made my own computer for the first time and at the beginning there were no problems but now I get BSOD's alot now. Any help solving this problem is appreciated.

System Specs:
Windows 7 64 Bit (Retail) Recently re-installed.

Intel i5 2500K
ASUS P8Z68-V
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 (TwinFrozer II)
Muskin Stiletto 8GB DDR3 RAM
Seagate 300GB Hard Drive
Hardware about 5 months old.

A:BSOD Randomly during idle time. Error 0x0000001a, 0x0000003b

Driver Verifier

If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

Thanks to JCGriff2 & Usasma.

I am baffled as to why tasks I create about time waiting for Scheduler start specified don't idle - Task tasks half the time do not run if the system is not idle at their set time to run Task Scheduler - tasks waiting for specified idle time don't start As an example I have a task to run Malwarebytes at am every day If Task Scheduler - tasks waiting for specified idle time don't start the system is idle at that time the task starts and completes successfully If the system is not idle at that time sometimes it will start and complete sucessfully once the system has been idle long enough but sometimes I just get a quot Task trigerred on scheduler quot in the history and it never does run for that day The same thing happens for all tasks I set up Here are the settings for the tasks General Run only when user is logged on changing to quot Run whether user is logged on or not doesn't help Run with Task Scheduler - tasks waiting for specified idle time don't start highest privileges checked unchecking doesn't help Configure for Windows Windows Server R I'm on Windows - changing this value to one of the other selections doesn't help Triggers At whatever time every day Actions Start whatever program Conditions Start the task only if the computer is idle for minutes Wait for idle for hours changing to quot Do not wait quot minute minutes doesn't help Wake the computer to run this task checked this is a desktop and I have all hibernation sleep shut off Settings Allow task to be run on demand checked Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed checked The weird thing is I found that MS has a task out there for System Restore which is set up just like my tasks scheduled for every day at am with the same conditions and settings and it always works For example last night at midnight I was on my PC so it wasn't idle at the am start time for both tasks I got off the PC around am History for MS's Sytem Restore task shows it started at am and completed successfully which is what I would expect to happen My Malwarebytes task history shows quot task triggered on scheduler quot at am but it for some reason never went ahead and ran as the System Restore task did while I was off the PC between am and returning around am This happens about half the time my PC isn't idle when one of my tasks is set to run I have another task to run a registry backup porgram with two triggers - one at am and one at pm It does the same thing for both triggers Whenever the PC isn't idle when the trigger time is hit whether am or pm sometimes the task will run once the PC is idle long enough and sometimes it doesn't This behavior makes the scheduler pretty much worthless to me if I can't trust it to do what I need it to do I've seen other people describing similar situations where the task doesn't run later if the system isn't idle at the scheduled time but I've seen no solution so I'm trying again I think sometimes this is a problem because people think their systems are idle but they're not I know I've had services and one time that Conduit crapware that got installed without asking that used or and more of the CPU constantly But I have Drivegleam running which I love and I can easily see when my system should be considered idle based on CPU usage and physical disk activity Any insight would be greatly appreciated Or at least thanks for letting me whine vent here

A:Task Scheduler - tasks waiting for specified idle time don't start

Hmmm ... well, just in case there is any interest in this situation, here's what I've determined (or maybe everyone else has already figured this out):

First, I determined that missed tasks were not being run whenever the system was restarted after a task was triggered but still waiting for idle condition to run. So, if I was on the PC when a task was supposed to run, once I got off the PC (without logging off), the task would then run after it determined the idle condition. But, if I was on the PC when the task was supposed to run and while it was still waiting for an idle condition, did a system restart, the task was never triggered again.

The easy workaround was to change the tasks to use user account System which forces "Run whether user is logged on or not". When this is done, the task gets re-triggered after a system restart and eventually runs once the idle condition is determined. However, that didn't work for my Malwarebytes task because I only have the free version which does not command run in silent mode - it prompts me. Tasks that are interactive can only be run as "Run only when user is logged on" - and that can't be done for user System. So, for that task, I have it set to use my user account and "Run only when user is logged on" and added a trigger "At log on" for my user account. That way, if I do a restart after the task is triggered and before an idle condition is determined (which normally then means the task gets forever lost), the task gets re-triggered upon the logon. Of course, this means that, depending on the time the task last got to run and when I restart the PC, that the task may run again when I don't really need it to but the task does always gets run at least once a day as I want.

I don't know if this not re-triggering a missed task after a restart when the user account is not System is a bug or a particular problem of my system. However, I had to do a repair install at one point to get WMP working (first time I ever had to do any kind of system re-install to fix a problem since using the original Windows OS) and this missed task problem existed before and still after the re-install (it did fix WMP, however, after turning the feature on and off with reboots, etc. didn't). I saw posts regarding this matter saying the problem was that a non-System user's credentials get lost after a system restart. Well, that makes sense to me that they would. It doesn't make sense to me that the credentials wouldn't be re-established by the time the "Run only when user is logged on" trigger is met. It seems to me the problem is simply that, for whatever reason, triggering via logon (at least after a restart) doesn't cause the task scheduler to pick up previously triggered tasks that never got to run as it apparently does correctly after a restart when the user account is System or because the trigger in that circumstance is upon system restart rather than user logon. I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has noticed whether or not their Windows 7 re-triggers missed tasks after a restart when user account is not System. Thanks.

Hello experts I do hope you can help me canceling time idle Save Power options Screensaver after once again I am completely confused by this issue and am unsure how to even proceed To start as the title says the screen saver and the Turn off Monitor option do not seem to be playing along well They work just Screensaver canceling Power Save options after idle time fine independently however i usually let the screen Screensaver canceling Power Save options after idle time saver kick in at minutes and the monitor turn off after minutes What is happening although the screensaver kicks in just fine and when the monitor timer expires they turn off Screensaver canceling Power Save options after idle time as needed but then are suddenly interrupted and cancels both the screen saver and the monitor turn off After researching what I could google has not been friendly in this case I have tried the wireless mouse fix and the issue continued I have connected a wired mouse same result After many reboots and trial and errors I have reached a desperate state here because I hate when my monitors run all day when I am not at home Thank you all for reading and reaching out to help Any other information I can provide I will do so as needed Thanks -Bz

the computer goes to sleep if it stays idle for some time
this internal idle timer gets reset every time there is keypress or mouse movement
how do I make it ignore mouse movement, that is, I don't want the idle timer to reset even if I move the mouse
So if I don't press any key for 30 minutes, I want the computer to go to sleep even if I move the mouse during this time
how do I do it?
thank you

A:how to make idle time before sleep ignore mouse input

I don't think this can be done. If it's a USB mouse, then I would just unplug it.

I am not quite sure where to start...as it is not a hardware issue, so me mentioning the hardware would more than likely not make the difference.

A few weeks ago, after a security update came down from Windows update, my home setup mysteriously started password locking when the remaining idle for a period of time. I do not have any other user accounts on my computer, just the Administrator account that I normally use. This same thing happens on my networked office computers, even if you aren't an administrator.

I have made sure that my screensaver is off, and I have also even messed around the power options, making sure that it was not the "one wake-up ask for password option."

I am not quite sure what caused this function to turn on, perhaps it was the security update, perhaps it was not.

Does anybody now how to turn off this function?

A:Vista will password lock when computer is idle for a period of time

Hello,

Right click on your Desktop and click on Personalise. Click Screensaver in the new window. In the Screensaver window, uncheck "On resume display logon screen", click OK and the problem should be fixed!

ya i want my comp to goto the welcome screen afte ri set idle for say 25min. i did it on my moms and can't remember how. if i set screensaver to password on resume it just asks for mine and won't do anything unless they know mine and i don't want that..so any one know how to do this?

A:Gettin Computer To Goto Welcome Screen Afte Rbeing Idle For A Set Amount Of Time

I'm just guessing at this, so try it and see.

First, go to Start...Run...and type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then, uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Then, click OK.

Next, go to Start...Control Panel...Display...ScreenSaver tab. The little password box should now say "On resume, display Welcome Screen" (instead of asking for the password).

At least that's how it worked out on my system. If it doesn't work for you, you can easily reset it to the way it was.

Hi,
The setting described in the topic was set to 15 minutes on the workstation GPO. User complain that they get the following errors in Adobe InDesign:
The network connection was lost for the file
*OpenedFile*.indd, or the file was modified by another process.
I think this setting is causing the issues.
More details about the setting: https://technet.microsoft.com/sv-se/library/cc776037(v=ws.10).aspx
My question is about the default settings on a workstation, what does "undefined" mean? What is default on a Win 8.1 machine? Should I disable the setting from the policy or set it to 99999 (effectively disabling it)?

Thanks

Computer = Windows XP SP2

Trying to set up so that the Local Computer Policy states that any remote session that is logged onto this computer will kick off a user that is idle (no activity) for 15 minutes. Right now I have this setting (Set a time limit for active but idle Terminal Services sessions) enabled and set for 15 minutes but its not kicking a idle user off after the set time.
It looks like this setting is just disconnecting the user, compared to logging them completly off - which is what we want. So I tried enabling Terminate session when time limits are reached. Still no luck with that either. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi!

i'm trying to run a task on event with Task Scheduler, it works, but when I check, in Conditions tag: "Start the task only if the computer is idle for" (1 min, wait for idle 30min) it doesn't work...

i set the screen saver to run after 1 min, so, after max of 16 min since the screen saver started the task should run but it doesn't...

in the task history it shows the failure error after 15min since the event triggered that means the computer wasn't idle in the last 15 min...

anyone?

Only 35 updates since SP1 - most systems have 75 to 80 (or more). Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates.

Android Phone USB device may not be working properly. Please uninstall it to see if that helps. Leave it uninstalled until the system is stable again.

There's a fair presence of Symantec in your memory dumps. I'd suggest testing to see if that's the problem. To do that, please try this:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection
- install the free antivirus and immediately update it
- monitor for further BSOD's

It looks like there's a USB Video device, but we don't have a record of the drivers for it in the DRT (Driver Reference Table located here: Driver Reference Table (DRT) ) I'll have to look them up (and add them to the table) in order to see what device it actually belongs to (I think it's from Magic Control).

Meanwhile I'd check to see if the device that you're using is here: USB Display Adapter-Magic Control Technology Corp.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...edictable.html
If so, uninstall the current drivers for it on the system and then download a fresh copy from that website and install them. Ensure that the driver is Win7 compatible BEFORE installing it!!!

If all of this doesn't fix the problem, then we have to start looking at hardware issues. Please try the free diagnostics here: http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

I think someone is tracking me using my IP address. How can I block them or what can I do to stop them if anything?

I have an hp mini 5103- how do I turn off the gps tracking thingie?

My display turns off (goes to black screen) after 5 minutes idle, even though I have display set to turn off after 30 minutes idle and the computer to sleep after 1 hour idle (this was done under Power Options in the Control Panel). This just started after the last big Microsoft updates were installed 2-3 weeks ago. I can not seem to change this, no matter what my settings are. Both my husband and I installed all the updates, yet his computer is not doing this; he changed all my settings to match his, but my display still turns off after 5 minutes. What's up with this, and how do I get my display to stay on for more than 5 minutes' idle time?

A:Display goes dark after 5 min idle; set to turn off after 30 min idle

This is not a laptop is it ?

Give us the exact make and model of pc.

Check the monitor itself for any sleep settings.

And you set windows to never let the monitor go off, correct ?

I use Firefox as my web browser. It updated itself to version 3.0.4 the other day. Having done so it warned me that my version of sotfone tracker was not compatible with the latest version of Firefox. I contacted Firefox and they pointed me in the direction of bleepingcomputer.com. I did a full scan using my KIS 2009 AV suite and nothing was reported as a problem. Then I contacted Kaspersky and they just want me to send them a screen dump of the Firefox message which I can't do until the next update (according to Firefox). Having Googled sotfone tracker I suspect that it is a Trojan of some kind.

How do I get rid of it? I am very much a novice at this so if you can help me please lead me gently through the maze.

Welcome to BC.Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

A:Sex Tracker and A Adaware

Welcome to TSF.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Remote Administrator Service (r_server) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\system32\userinit32.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,userinit32.exe
O23 - Service: Remote Administrator Service (r_server) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\r_server.exe" /service (file missing)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\system32\userinit32.exe - delete the file exactly as shown here
C:\WINNT\system32\r_server.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Please download SmitfraudFixDouble-click SmitfraudFix.exeSelect option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

None of your programs(Adaware; and Spybot Search and Destroy; SpywareBlaster & Spywareguard) will have any effect on you recievingthese e-mails.
Are they all coming from the same source?....I mean the same mail sever?
Mailwasher should help....you get the option to bounce the e-mails back to the source as if it has hit a non existant e-mail addy so theoretically should not be sent again.

I seem to have the MS Juan and MS Tracker amongst other things going on with my machine since yesterday. I have since ran malwarebytes, ad aware and spybot. They all find and kill stuff but I am still getting trojan popups from Avast, as well as returning ms juan and tracker in malwarebytes.

This is the first time this has happened to me and I am unsure of what to do next to try to clean my machine up, any help would be greatly appreciated. I can post logs of my previous scans if you wish.

Thank you.

A:aim logger/ tracker

Hi, Sorry, TechGuy.org does not assist with using keyloggers, or AIM loggers, we have no way to verify the situation, hope you understand.

Nine times out of ten you will make the situation worse- logging software can be detected. Things can get out of hand, and we cannot be part of something like this.

I have a law office and think my system may have been hacked by a competor or Im just psychotic. Either way thought I'd look into the above question and see what the smart folks thoughts were and at worst maybe kick this old dog of a computer back in gear and make it worth using again. SO assuming I was hacked I tried first to rid the eval bug but evil malware instead - cheap bastard that I am - then I figured hey I'll just learn programing cause I got such a good grade when I took BASIC in 1983 should be no sweat. Fools rush in they say. ANyway had the benefit of at least taking my brain off idle and getting me intrested in something again. Therefore, if theres a Guru out there willing to put me through the paces it'd be appreciated.

Hi,The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread. Then I'll take a look. Also, please start with installing an antivirus and firewall as well, because it doesn't make any sense that we try to clean this up if nothing is preventing malware getting reinstalled again.AVG, Avira OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously!Zonealarm, Agnitum Outpost Free OR Kerio are FREE firewalls. Understanding and using firewallsPerform a full scan with your antivirus and let it delete everything it is finding. Then post a new hijackthislog.

Hi,sorry for multi-posting,i did not realise that messages cannot be deleted, this is the actual post for my problem(ignore other posts by me). I received a few friend requests from an official well known chat group. These requests are being send through by its official site to my hotmail. However there are notices that pop ups when i clik accept the friend requests. These notices seek for my permission to allow access to my DNS,keyboard and mouse. I do not know whether my computer is infected. I need help in removing these tracking programs juz to make sure the information in my computer is safe. Thanks

I am running windows vista. I have ran multiple different virus scans and spyware/malware scans and still have this "piece of paper image" that shadows my cursor every so often. (picture attached). It happens mainly on facebook. I do not play any games, etc and I keep my virus scanner up to date etc. I am thinking it is some kind of tracker????? but I ran rootkit scanners and it didnt solve my problem. Please help. Thanks.
