Within the last three days my computer running Windows XP has started trying to install Roxio Media Manager. It keeps running over and over again and will not stop.
I have purchased Error Expert to try and stop it but it has not worked. Wondering a couple fo tings. If I totally uninstall Roxio Media Manager will that help? Not sure this would be a good thing but this is driving me crazy.
How do I stop windows installer from trying to install this progam?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Suggest you follow the link in my signature to especially download, update definitions and run Malwarbytes free. There are other cleaning tools in the link Learning each day that should also be of assistance to you.
Let us know if there is improvement,

Hi geniuses, who have been so kind to me under another name, I wonder if one of you can help me.
some evil thing causes something to try to install roxio media manager on my computer.
is there anyway that I can stop that and get rid of whatever it is?

so that implies that at least you're getting a prompt to authorize?
What OS version/edition/sp level are you using?
What extensions & add-ons are enabled?
Running Windows XP, and every time my windows starts up, it wants to automatically install Roxio. I set the service to disabled for the time being.
Is there something in the Registry I can look out for and/or change ?
Hi, when I am trying to stream audio from the web, Windows Installer pops up and asks me to install Roxio CinePlayer decoder pack. This is nothing more than a pain as if I cancel 2-3 times then the stream will operate through Windows Media Player. Can anyone help me to identify why this is happening?
Quick bump on this one - anyone got any ideas?
I am running windows XP pro sp3. I had installed blackberry desktop software and with it this Roxio Media Manager keeps trying to install itself with windows installer, as soon as you cancel it tries again.
I have tried to remove the blackberry software from add/remove programs but i get a message asking for the msi install file which i no longer have. It asks for version 4.3. When i click cancel here the roxio stops trying to install for awhile and the Blackberry entry in the add/remove programs disappears but both come back on reboot.
I have also looked into the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVerion>Run and RunOnce and also the same location under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE for some kind of roxio registry to delete but there is none.
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions =D
Found this on another website, hope it helps for you .Re-download the install file. If you go to blackberry.com you can choose 4.5 with media and 4.5 without media! Without doesn't try to install roxio. With does but it should be imbedded within the the download.Another SolutionI seemed to have solved it by doing a 'repair' installation in the control panel's add/remove of the BB program.Hope that helpshttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/265780/removing-roxio-media-manager/
I purchased a Blackberry 8830 and installed Blackberry Desktop Manager, VZAccess Manager, and Audio Bay Media manager to access podcasts on my Blackberry. Ever since I continue to get the following messages, "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Media Manager," or "Unable to find Certificate File," or "Please install CD to continue Roxio Media Manager installation." The problem is that I don't ever recall downloading anything from Roxio media Manager and am not sure where it came from. I uninstalled Audio Bay, Blackberry Desktop Manager and VZAccess Manager and now am unable to install anything because the computer says that the computer is busy installing another program.
Any help or advice to stop or get rid of Roxio would be very much appreciated!!!
Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.
once installed, and open, click the roxio program, and the button to fix.
i suspect roxio software might be part of another software you picked up and is installing itself as part of the License agreement.
As part of installing blackberry desktop software, I had to also install Roxio Media Manager. Now Roxio media manager wont install, and every time I restart, The installation process also starts, and I am unable to get rid of it. The problem is that even if I cancel that installer, I cannot install any other program, even after its windows is closed message is
error 1500 : Another installation is in progress.....
So now I am unable to install any other program. It seems that this Roxio media manager installer has been configured to autorun on startup, and I dont know how to get rid of it.
MS has a Install Uninstall Fix It app that will try to auto fix this issue. Give it a try.

Should have searched these forums more carefully before posting.
I tried the windows installer remover utility as suggested by several posters. Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 was not listed by the program, but at the top of the list was 7.0*** (I forget the exact numbers) but it looked suspiciously like the version number for Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 so I highlighted it and let the program remove it.
Problem solved. Thanks to all those people who posted before me.
I am having a problem with trying to reinstall the Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. I believe it got corrupted when I tried to load Google Earth? The Drag & Drop function and maybe others are not working.
The uninstall is not clean and may require manual deleting of any items left on the Drives and registry. I did a search for files and removed everything pertaining to Roxio.
I also went into the registry and did the same except for... shared files.
Question... Should the Roxio shared files also be removed?
The error message says that components are missing to make it work. What does that mean?
If anyone has a procedure to fix my problem it would be appreciated.

wow I fixed my own problem so randomly... I was looking in control panel to make sure my account was administrator and then I noticed turn user account control on or off. So I turned it off and on restart I had no more errors. Then I decided I still wanted to keep user account control for the added security so I turned it back on and restarted and still there was no errors. I hope this helps if anyone else has similar problems. I couldn't find any help on the net.
Can I add a video to the library of WMP using Roxio sonic cineplayer?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/windows-media-player-and-roxio-sonic-cineplayer-469920.html
Every time I use anything with explorer, like moving files into folders and stuff like that, the Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 installer comes up. It asks for a disc to continue installing but I didn't get it off a disk and I also tried to repair it but it didn't work and I really don't want to uninstall it. Anyone know what to do?
Every time I play a media file or access one of my external hard drives, I get a message saying "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio CinePlayer" and then "The feature you're trying to use is on a removable disc or CD-ROM that is not available". I've tried inserting the disc and installing Roxio CinePlayer which worked but the message still appears. If I try and cancel another box just appears. If I Ctrl+Alt+Del and force it to close than either Explorer or Windows Media Player closes as well. I'm using Windows XP Pro.
Please can someone tell me how to stop this from happening as it slows my computer down quite a bit apart from anything else.
Now it's started popping up between every mp3 track I play and every few minutes whilst I'm wating a video in Windows Media Player. Has anyone got any idea how to stop this?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/193148/how-can-i-stop-roxio-cineplayer-installer/
I recently ran a registry cleaner program. No, I didn't make a backup of the registry first. Everything seemed fine until I tried to copy one file to another drive. I right clicked on the file, then dragged it to the new drive, then chose the copy command. Well, immediately, the installer program for Roxio Easy CD Creator launched. I clicked cancel. It launched again, I hit cancel. Then the copy worked after that.
This problem happens when I simply right click and make a copy of the file in the same folder, or if I drag and drop it to another hard drive to make a copy.
Is there a way to clean up the problem? I run Windows XP Pro.
Have you tried a system restore?
Have you tried completing the installer to see if it keep prompting you after it installs?
Hi I recently got a GB Seagate external USB hard drive I ve been & with 4.5 Trouble Installer Windows Seagate Manager experiencing Blue Screens for a while now after the drive was added and I am currently troubleshooting in the BSOD forum here on Trouble with Windows Installer 4.5 & Seagate Manager techspot One avenue we tried was to uninstall the Seagate Manager software because it seemed it could be linked to my problem I am not able to boot normally as soon as my desktop appears I get a BSOD with quot page fault in non paged area quot I have been going into safe mode for my troubleshooting I used the Seagate chat today because I was not able to uninstall the Seagate software on my computer apparently it s because it can t be done in safe mode from what I was told by the chat tech I was instructed to download Windows Installer Since I have done that I am getting a different error message Error Windows installer service could not be accessed etc from the add remove programs because I don t think that the installed correctly in safe mode Does anyone know how I can get my windows installer back to normal or updated to while in safe mode since I can t boot normally right now Thanks Joe nbsp
You could try using System Restore to bring your PC back to a point before you installed Windows Installer 4.5.
Whenever I try to open pics, clipart, etc. the Windows Installer pops up and says, "preparing to install" and nothing happens.
It will not go away when I click cancel and if it does disappear it promptly starts again.
I have to go to Task Manager and End Task to get rid of it.
This started to happen about the same time I installed Office 2007.
I have been to Microsoft, unistalled and reinstalled Office and nothing has worked yet. It is connected to error 1635 but the fix information I've tried references an HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE line that does not match anything in my reg when I go to edit.
When I try to install Roxio Easy Creator 9 on my Windows Vista I receive a message saying...find the dsetup.dll and change it to dsetupOLD.dll. But there is no such folder as dsetup.dll on my computer. This vistas is driving me nuts. I have never had so many problems as I have with vista. Please help. Thank you

I use Sony Vaio.. the problem is that a Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up and it suddenly exit without me even knowing what it is doing or installing.
Hello zolboo and a warm welcome to the Forum
I found this on the Sony website. If you follow the instructions it should solve your problem
This is the Vaio Personalisation Manager which keeps track of your favorite music, programs etc. As far as I can work out it is designed to make personalised recommendations of music or other things you may be interested in when using Vaio Media Gallery. Rather like Amazon's Personal Recommendations.
If you don't want this service then just disable it. Go to VAIO Analysis Manager and you will find an option something like ' Preference Learning' - just uncheck it and reboot.
So I figured out how to actually get the broken Windows 10 Media Installer fixed. Apparently all you have to do is just change your System Locale settings to English(United States).
I was so dumbfounded when, after 3 hours of trying to get the damn thing to work, all I needed was to just simply change my System Locale.
3 HOURS WASTED, FOR A SIMPLE FIX!!!!!!!!!
Pop up keeps coming up 'Roxio Update Manger' insert disk needless to say I havent got one can you help me

I encountered the same problem awhile back; it's a known bug with the Windows Installer.
MOPER made this suggestion & it worked perfectly for me. Give it a try..
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Install and run it, look for an entry similar to "WordPerfect". Delete the entry and all should be fine.
[*] NOTE: Please replace "WordPerfect" with the name you got from the Windows Installer"
I tried to uninstall a program that came with my blackberry phone and every time I log onto my laptop. I keep getting a pop-up that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available." Insert the "Roxio Update Manager" disk and click OK - Use source: (1)"
I cannot cancel and If I click OK I get a message saying An installation package for the product Roxio Update Manager cannot be found. Try the installation again using the valid copy of the installation package. 'UM.MSI'.
I don't know what to do because roxio was already installed on my laptop when I purchased it.
Do you ever use Roxio ? If not, I'd uninstall it.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/roxio-update-manager-problem-518305.html

at this point you need to keep in mind it is a beta and problems come as part of it if you send the details to ms then they have a chance to address them for the future all i can suggest is try to reinstall and see if it performs better since you say nothing installs you wont have had any possible updates or fixes
I was using Need4Vidio and after burning a handfull of .mpg files one day the burning tool would shut down and give an error message "DVD builder has encountered a problem and needs to close" followed by a message "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close". Scince then I bought Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and burning worked great untill today and now I get right up to the point of selecting a file to burn (which are mpeg2video .mpg files) but it doesn't show up on my screen and then the same 2 error messages show up. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing but that didn't work. I'm running Windows XP.
roxio has a help tab which is good have you tried looking there ? can often be spyware suite kicking in whilst burning a project so suggest turn it off or look to see if its scheduled
I am currently using the Roxio Media Creator 10 LJ. I was wondering which option would I use to burn a music cd in file format with 10-12 albums in which I would be able to play in my car. There are several options in which have me confused. For instance there is a JukeBox creater, and also a Data Disk creator which seem like they do the same thing. Which option is best ?
2 Processor Speed
1.86 GHz Processor Type
Intel Pentium Dual-Core P6000 RAM
Hard Drive Capacity 320 GB
OK, heres one for you.
I use Roxio 7 Creator Classic on rare occasions.
Just now, I go to use it and have discovered it's having an issue with my system.
The select source window will continually refresh, unless I have disc's in every drive.
Navigating to a location is quite difficult as it will refresh before I can get to the folder I want.
Only change I can think of is adding a codec pack to play a video, (AC3 Filter I think)
some time ago.
I have tried a repair on Roxio, yet the refresh remains.
I will try removing the AC3 filter and see if it helps.
Out of frustration I will try a reinstall of Roxio, but would like some feedback of any ideas first.
OK, removed AC3 filter and it's still refreshing.
Hmm.. wonder what else.
When i want to burn file using media creator 9 this is error i get
failed to start image writing
operation Error while burning image
80004003 error while aborting
Is there any option to fix this one?
Really appreciate your time

Media Palyer 10 should drive a DVD. Perhaps your DVD player is bad... they burn out frequently after a year.
Intervidio was installed when your burner software was installed... you can remove it without problems...
You do have a lot of software competing for DVD rights... Media Player, Power DVD 4, Intervideo, Camera XVID.
First thing to do is reinstall Media Player 10, or download the newer and better Media Player 11... then click on all these software tools to give or remove permissions.
I have a media center. i used to use Roxio for my CD and DVD burning and editing. Now that i have a Media center, the software will not work when i try to burn a CD. Anyone have any helpful hints? Me at; [email protected]
i was going to suggest upgrading to a later version, but checking the roxio forum they are having problems with version 7.5 and media centre 2005http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/roxio-6-wont-work-on-win-xp-media-center-help-70948.html
This is a long story but I am going to give you the short short version. I had EMC 9 and upgraded to 10, February 12. I have had nothing but problem after problem with the software. First concerning my sound, and now re-installation. Every time I go to reinstall the software after doing everything (including a clean install) short of reformatting my harddrive, the installation just stops and reverses the process. Then I have to reboot and try all over again. I have contacted Roxio, countless times, and even posted on their forum, but over a month later I am in a worse position than when I started. Any other advice would be genuinely appreciated.
I am using Roxio 10,and I was wondering if there is a way to burn a movie onto a DVD?

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem on Roxio EMC Until recently the prog has been working fine but now it seems to have developed a problem In simple terms it is refusing to convert CDA to MP and or MP to CDA If I try to make an audio cd from with Need Please help 7 Roxio Easy Media Creator - mp files on my HD I go through the usual practice of opening up the prog and then dragging the mp files from the contents pane down to the project pane but now when I do this the file does not show up in the project pane and nothing is added to the project Conversely If I try to rip audio files from a CD and convert them to MP files on my HD again the prog just does not do it There are no error messages and no clues as to why it won t do the job I don t know a lot about computers but it seems like the quot conversion engine quot if there is such a thing isn t working It is a proper prog not pirated and I have tried re-installing but it still will not do the job I am running Win XP Pro - SP I have tried getting help at Roxio but their idea of support is abysmal - I would probably have more success if I tried knitting with Need help with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 - Please fog I hope some of you more computer literate people out there might know the answer Thank you Dave Derby UK nbsp
Welcome to Techspot!
I wonder if you are trying to convert some files lately that have some copyright protection built in. I know that XP serpk 2 has added more.Check for settings in Roxio(I use Nero so I am not sure where the setting will be), media player etc. to turn it off .
When i bought mydell last year, it came with Roxio media player. I never used it or anything so i uninstalled it all.
I got a blackberry storm for christmas this year and now i need the software again.
Does anyone know where i can find it?

I have a Sony PCV-RS G desktop complete with video capture card DVD burner Roxio Media Easy Creator 7 etc The video authoring software that was included with the Sony is a bit difficult for me to use - maybe I m just stupid but all I wanted to do was to take a bunch of my family VCR tapes average length of each tape is about hours and preserve them by burning DVD s for the rest of the family to enjoy As a novice to capturing etc I am making a major production out of what Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 should be a simple task I have had no problems capturing the entire hour VCR tape but what next considering that my dvd s will only hold Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 about an hour of video Since I am struggling with the Sony supplied software I was thinking about purchasing Roxio Easy Media Creator But I think I ran across a thread somewhere on the internet about cd and dvd drives disappearing from view when certain authoring programs were installed on their computers Does anyone know if my Sony will like the Roxio program or will it s software fight with the new Roxio programs Will my drives disappear nbsp
Any media program should be fine and I don't think it will conflict with other programs on your computer. I like Nero best but that's just a personal opinion. And you need to read all of this http://forums.techguy.org/t236165.html
I have a download offer via my Dell laptop
I want to be able to store the following on CD/DVD
Business Applications (Spreadsheets, Docs. Databases)
I also want to back up my PC to RW/CD
Is this product suitable?
Its coaring $50 05 €72 is this the best price or is there a better priced product.
I still use Roxio 5 Easy CD Creator - came free with both my Dell Workstation and Laptop.
Uses the basic and original Adaptec engine copying software: in fact, Adaptec no longer sell their CD copying product as all proprietory rights have been sold to Roxio.
Roxio software is a very robust and simple to use program.
To back-up files to CD is a snap, as you can Drag 'N Drop in Explorer, when the disk is left open and continue to add files until the disk is full.
Not sure about the price: seems fair.
I have an O S Vista Premium I bought the Roxio Easy Media Creator a couple of years ago when I was using XP and it worked excellent I now have issues with the program When I Media Creator 7 Roxio Easy initiate the program the main menu comes up but that is it When I try to do something like create a data disk or anything else then it just kind of freezes and won t initiate Has anyone had any experience with this O S and this software It seems the company is not interested in anything older than I cannot even get a response from them I paid over Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 a hundred dollars for this software so I am a little perturbed that I cannot get it to operate in Vista I have tried removing it from my computer and doing a complete new install but that doesn t seem to make any difference I would appreciate any assistance you could offer If this cannot be corrected then maybe a suggestion of what software could replace it I have no intention of giving Roxio any more of my hard earned money if their software is out of date in three years and not even an offer of an upgrade at a reasonable price Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Wib McMullen nbsp
I just installed Media 7.5 and there is an option to back up your computer but it doesn't work for some reason, when I hit it, it starts to open then it just gets stuck, any ideas?
I had Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 installed in my computer, and it was working fine. I uninstalled the software and when I tried to install it again, it asks me for a disk eventhough the CD is inserted. What is going on? Help me here. Thanks!!
I've always used Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum v.5 to format my CD-RW's (choose DirectCD Utility) and just can't figure out how to do this in v.6.
Can anyone help?
not trying to pass the buck, but try using the ROXIO forums. you may find your answer there.
Hi, i'm using to Roxio 7.5 to edit my home video footage, my camcorder records directly to dvd-ram format and i can't get roxio to recognise my footage when i plug my camcorder via usb or insert the dvd-ram disc straight into the drive. Is there a way to transfer a VRO file to VBO? Or am i doing something completely wrong?

Hi I have uninstalled roxio completely from my computer. I even deleted anything from my registry that said roxio. Was having problems with it. Now the strange this is when i click on my microsoft anti spyware program before it will come up a box comes up that says Preparing to install, Roxio Easy Media Creator. Then comes another box that says. Roxio Easy Media Creator Installshield wizard. with a big red x unable to find a certificate file. Then a box that says could not open the certificate reading DLL. How do i get rid of that? I have tried now for 2 weeks. I have nothing roxio on my computer. But when i click on my microsoft antispyware this comes up first. I have uninstalled the masw, and put it back again. I still have the same program. Can someone tell me what i need to do to stop this from coming up? Please, hugs,
i have Roxio Easy Media Creator 6
and i use it to burn all my dvd's... however it takes FOREVER to load the dvd buliding utility and then to import the files it usually freezes up... and its just very sloppy and unsmooth...
i was wondering what other DVD burners i could use to burn DVD-R's that will work on my dvd player in my living room!
i use Nero on one of my pc''s and Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 on the other. no probs here.
When using the MyDVD 9 part of Easy Media, I get a C++ Runtime Error. Any suggestions how to fix this?
I am not real happy with Roxio. I am a football coach who needs a program that:
(1) rips video off DVD's;
(2) has some basic authoring tools (add music, text)
(3) Can burn to a 4 stack DVD burner.
Really could use some help if there is a program & company more dependable than Roxio. I just bought the program 2 months ago and they want $35 for tech support!!!
Here is a Roxio forum that is very usefull for info and problems.
I just got a dvd burner and wanted to burn some of my movies and stuff so I can view them off of my computer. When I use the DVD builder and add titles to the dvd, it won't let me add some of my avi files. A red "x" appears in place of the preview and I can't select the file to add it. What do I need to do to correct this?
I also have Nero 6, but I cannot make dvd video without converting avi files to mpg, so I only use it for data.
My OS is Windows 2000 sp4.
Just upgraded Roxio 7.0 to 7.5. Everytime I start the application, it tries to reconfigure and reinstall. What a pain.
Anybody know how to correct this?
Thanks for any help.
I just got that software too, and when I hit back up my pc, it would freeze. I did everything tech support said to do and they think it is a bad cd. They are sending me a new one. I was able to burn some things but I am not satisfied til it all works as advertised. I will let you know if a new CD works for me.

Hi, got easy media creator and have a new dvd burner (NEC 2510A).
I go to make a new dvd. My media size is 4.36GB available.
I take a 700MB movie file on my computer that I want to add to the dvd project, and thats ALL.
I add it to the dvd project, and for some reason it shows that its taking up the WHOLE dvd and MORE, (6gb!!!). I have to set quality to "low" just to get it to 2.4GB
Why can't i just add it as the 700MB that it really is and keep it the quality that it is.
I am so frustrated, please someone help ASAP!!
My wife is using using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 with Win XP and is having problems. She continuously gets messages saying one thing is "incompatable" with another and she also cannot get the background music to burn to a DVD. We'd appreciate any help we can get before I have to put her into a padded cell!
Since I reinstalled My Windows XP my Widows installer seems to be corrupt or gone. I have tried to install it from Microsoft but it will not install. Now Flash, and many other programs will not upgrade or install without the installer. Also I cannot delete many programs without it.
There is a workaround to uninstall it, then reinstall on M$ site. There is also a Windows Cleanup Utility to clean uninstall some M$ progs on site. (I'm away so can't give the url's).
I use automatic updates on XP Home, and I keep getting a pop up telling me that Windows Installer 3.1 is ready to be installed.
I run the update and just a few seconds later I get another pop-up message telling me that Windows Installer 3.1 is ready to be intsalled. No matter how any times in run the update, it keeps coming back.
use SYSTEM RESTORE to return your system to before this event occurred.
set your WINDOWS UPDATE to-----"notify me but dont automatically download or install them".
in the SECURITY CENTER in your CONTROL PANEL.
So after I did a repair install of XP for a previous problem I went to Windows Update. It said I needed to install Windows Installer 3.1 to continue. Instead of saying it was done, it said it was unable to install. Then I downloaded the file manually and went to install. It said something about not having permissions, or access denied. I thought it was because my system restore was screwed up, but that's now fixed, so I don't know what the problem is now.
Are you administrator? If the permissions are screwed up, go into the Control panel and make sure you're an admin.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/93655/windows-installer-31-wont-install/
I keep getting the usual quot updates are available quot shield on my taskbar and it s always windows itself! install 3.1 installer won't for the latest update of windows installer I ve downloaded it times now and told it to install itself times now and windows installer 3.1 won't install itself! it always seems to work right but never really does It always goes thru its paces and the progress bar goes all the way to the right but at the very end it ends with a message that says two things basically it didn t install properly and I need to restart for the updates to take effect Those both can t be right at the same time obviously It must not have installed because a day or so later the shield pops up again and it s deja vu all over again I read the MS description of the update and it sounds as if it isn t really worth worrying about Is that right If so how do I stop windows update from reminding me every other day or so that it s an available update I want to be reminded just not for THIS one nbsp
Trying to install a Silverlight Update, a Java update or other software, I get this window:
What could be the problem ?
Go to Control Panel | Programs and Features and uninstall Silverlight entirely, then go to microsoft and download the silverlight package and install it. I have had to do this a few times already, and it is annoying.
The same goes for the Java 6 Update 18.
I constantly have a Windows update yellow shield on my toolbar (the one showing programmes that are running). When I run it, it is for Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1, but it always says the update could not be installed. And the yellow shield stays. What's this about please and what should I do?
Dell Latitude D400, 1.4 Gig Pentium M, 512 MB RAM, 30 Gig hard drive with 22 Gig free.
Ever since I upgraded to the XP Service Pack 2, I've had nothing but problems. The most annoying of which being Windows Installer/InstallShield won't install anything. It appears like it will install, then stops when it says 'Configuring Windows Installer', then I get this message '1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime'
I have checked out the support at the InstallShield website. They address the issue on the site, but none of the solutions help.
Just wondering if anyone knows of any possible solutions.
Thanks in advance.
There is a new version of the installer on the windows update page.
Give it a try.
When trying to burn a custom DVD with this program (basically add an .avi file, plus some sort of .jpg for a background, stick in a PLAY button and go...), the thing insists on burning it's lame background music to the menu, so that when the DVD is played, and runs the main menu, there's this elevator muzak playing in the background.
1. Run Roxio 9
2. Select Create DVD
3. on the taskbar there's a little speaker-looking thing that when you click it gives you menu sound options: fade in, fade out, or mute.
When you click to select mute, a little checkmark appears in a checkbox, but when you click preview or burn, the sound inexplicably returns and you get the muzak.
It's pretty annoying. I just want to burn a basic DVD with no bells and whistles.
Anyone know what the bug is with this program?
I want to copy CD/music which contains fantastic songs.
Is there any way for me to copy those songs by using Windows Media Player or Roxio?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Are you wanting to burn them to a music CD? Do you just want to copy and move them to another storage device?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/how-to-copy-songs-music-to-cd-by-using-media-player-or-roxio-855690.html
Does anybody know how i can make cd jewel cases like i did in 5 platinum where the track lengths are right justified instead of being placed right after the track names.
I am trying the Roxio using auto edit with cinemagic. I load all the pictures and videos and put them all where they need to be. When I play the videos they are all miscolored and unsightly. When I play the videos in their files they play fine but when they are in the slideshow they are totally unwatchable. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening? Thanks.
Uninstall, and reinstall Roxio, then try again. Do you have enough memory and an adequate video graphics card?
I have talked to McAfee - Roxio - Microsoft and now I'm asking you.
My program Roxio will not open ...it just sits there. I put in a disc and a box comes up to choose which program I want to use when I click Roxio it does nothing.
I unistalled the program and reinstalled and it worked for 6 days -I turn my pc on today and nothing! I have windows vista on a xps 410 dell... 5 months old. Someone suggest I unistall windows defender is this safe and if so will it even work?
Please can you help?
Maybe a DVD bios update on the drive
Maybe a bios update on your system
Also run checkdisk
Start > Run > Cmd
Then type "chkdsk"
You will need Admin rights for this
go to Start and then start typing "command prompt" until the shortcut shows up in the search list. Then right click on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Choose to confirm or type in your password to elevate the process.
Then you can run chkdsk from the elevated command prompt
I hope this is the right Forum for this. I am running Roxio 7 and have created a 'production' of a slide show with sound. I would like to burn this to a CD but it just goes off into the 'weeds' and says 'loading component'. I 'suspect' this has something to do with it only showing DVD function but I don't really know.
It looks like it has sent the production file off somewhere that it doesn't know what to do with it.
Has anyone used this program and had this problem.
I don't have a DVD drive and wonder if that is what I have to have! Thanks,
Hi. I am considering buying subject software. I have just been introduced to making slide shows with my digital photos and music, and need a program for DVD authoring so I can show them on my familys' and friends TVs. My question is would I be better off to buy the XP/Vista version for around $80 in case I ever upgrade my OS from XP Pro (which is not in my plans for the immediate future) or would I be just as well off the pay about $50 for the non-Vista version? Thanks for any advice. Nancy
Just installed the above programon my Windows XP Pro machine and also updated the installation at their website which I was told is necessary.
Everything seems to be working fine except the Label Creator. When I go to that program it hangs up and I have to go to ctrl-Alt-del and it states "program not responding" ... anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to remedy this situation?
I reinstalled windows XP home edition with SP2 on my laptop and since then, the automatic update promts me to install Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1.
I hit install and after trying to install it, it says it was unsuccesfull....
Do I need to install this update? And if so, HOW?
If I don't, how do I stop it from showing up on the automatic update?
Hello,That is an interesting error. If automatic updates refuses to instal the file, you should try instaling it manually. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en this is a link to the windows instaler page. Also, to stop an update showing in your update list, simply expand the update in question by clicking the plus sign and select the check box saying a variation of exclude from future searches.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/137266/microsoft-windows-installer-31-wont-install/
when i try to install/uninstall, i get a message service could not be accessed.
i followed a link from here and have checked the location of the msiexec.exe file and the path/value is correct in the registry.
but i have 2 msiexec.exe files, 1 in w\sys32, the 3.1 version and 1 in w\spf\i386.
could having 2 files be part of the problem?
Have you tried the MIcrosoft Installer Cleanup Utility?
"windows installer preparing to install..." message keeps popping up every few seconds on my dell desktop with xp media center edition sp3. I thought it might be malware so I ran malwarebytes antimalware and found nothing. I read somewhere that I should install and run the windows installer cleaner so I tried this but it won't let me install the cleaner. It gives a message saying that another program is installing and this needs to finish first. I read up on not being able to run the windows install cleaner and tried to end one of the two msexec processes from the task manager. this was a bad idea as it caused me to have another message about spss 15 trying to install every couple of seconds in addition to the windows installer. This is really frustrating. Unfortunately, I have a dissertation to write. Can anyone help me out? Thanks
Try reinstalling the Windows Installer:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/291127/windows-installer-preparing-to-install/

Welcome to Seven Forums DevPump.
Your statements are confusing. Are you trying to install software with the programs' setup.exe file? What matrerial do you need to reformat?
Try running SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

From the following links my understanding is that in order to install EFI installer Does have Windows to boot EFI? to install 8 Windows with a GPT partition scheme Does installer have to boot EFI to install Windows 8 EFI? and EFI booting the install media has to boot in EFI during installation UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows How To Make UEFI Bootable USB Flash Does installer have to boot EFI to install Windows 8 EFI? Drive to Install Windows Next of Windows This seems to be because during installation GPT amp EFI vs MBR amp BIOS will be selected automatically by the installer based on how the Does installer have to boot EFI to install Windows 8 EFI? install media itself booted and there's no way to change this automatic choice Is this correct Is there a reason it must be this way It seems odd that the Windows installation media itself must boot in EFI in order to install Windows that will boot in EFI I don't see why it should matter how the install media itself boots If that's the way the installer was designed then that's just the way things are and it doesn't do much good to ask 'why' but I want to make sure my understanding is correct
Here is info about UEFI Boot Mode (installing using the GPT partition style) and Legacy BIOS Boot Mode (installing using the MBR partition style): linkhttp://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/58408-does-installer-have-boot-efi-install-windows-8-efi.html
OK guys....This is driving me nuts. It never used to happen but now it does. Whenever I try to open Microsoft word or excel, or even when I run disk cleanup This box comes up entitled Windows Installer and the message inside of it says "Preparingt to Install"....This goes away after about 30 -45 seconds and the the stuff opens up....But it's a pain in the butt....I think it also does this for some other stuff too.
I haven't made any changes to the computer that I can remeber except running some anti-virus database updates.
I'm not too swift with computers and I can live with this if I have but DO I HAVE TO????
-----------Help please.....Kaara Larson
Hello and welcome to the forum
You should be able to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to stop what is causing the installer to fire up
I had an issue with the .MSI Windows Installer (imbedded in Windows 7).
I followed some bad advice and deleted via Regedit. Windows Installer 5.0 is NOT available for download as a stand alone program.
So I'm pondering doing a Repair Install.
Will doing so Reinstall the Windows Installer Program ?
Yes it should seeing as its a windows file.
Repair install replaces the Windows files from the disc.
I'm not able to install Windows Installer 3.1, There is no error message other than It failed to install, restart your computer. I have looked over the MS website and all that happened was I got a head ache from all the information there. Can anyone help me with this. I'm unable to update with out it installed.
I was having problems installing Adobe Reader 9.2 (had previous version[s]) so I downloaded the Windows Installer Clean Up Setup (was supposed to take care of the problem). I can't even it install it itself though! Any idears? Using 64-bit Home Vista if makes a difference.
P.S. I can't even quit the WICUS installer to boot.
I recently purchased software that requires that various Microsoft components be installed, including Microsoft Installer (MSI) version 4.5. I have tried to download the MSI 4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe file) from Microsoft website but it will not install and leaves me with my current MSI version 3.1. During install of MSI 4.5 I get an "access denied" error, then computer undoes the changes and restarts leaving me with the MSI 3.1.
What would cause my system to not allow for the MSI 4.5 version to replace the 3.1, This is leaving me unable to install my recent software purchase.
I have Windows XP SP3/32 bit.
Thank you for your courtesies in helping me.
Windows installer continues to pop up all the time "preparing to install" and disappears, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Can a computer dummy fix this?

Opening add/remove programs seems to prompt the Windows Installer popup.
Ok Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now.
Hardly anything will install without crashing. Im downloading what should be the correct installers of many things like java, shockwave and a lot more applications and they all crash within the first few stages within the installer and I get the error report thing. Same with AIM... It messes up 90% of the time I open it but it managed to install. MSN wont install either.
BUT ironicly. Every single VST and VSTi (theyre just plugins for music creation software... .ddls) Ive installed work - same with all my music apps.
One thing I tried was reinstalling windows installer. No luck - it did install but everything still messes up.
Im running XP SP2 on this machine simply because everything should work on it. Its the Professional 2002 version. I have 2GB of ram and a Q6600 quad core(this may be causing the problem, I dunno)
I'm having trouble with the windows installer. Everything I have read says "easy to fix in 2 minutes" and the first thing you have to do is download the fix it program. Well, guess what? I can download it but I can't install it! Imagine that! Can anyone help me around this situation?
Try this :
Delete all temporary files.
a. Restart the computer.
b. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer, or double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
c. Click anywhere in the Address bar to select it. (If you do not see the Address bar, then right-click the blank area to the right of Help. On the menu that appears, click Address bar.)
d. Type %temp% and then press Enter:
e. The Temp folder for the currently logged-on user displays.
f. In most cases, you can safely delete the contents. If you are not sure, then copy any files or folders to a different location. To delete the contents, click the Edit menu, and then click Select All.
g. Press Delete, and then click Yes if prompted to confirm.
See if it helps.
I have tried several times to install but when it comes to the loading bar, it remains still, still running but the bar does not move. I tried the fix using cmd with the registry but it is still not working
Currently runnning on Windows 7 64-bit Home Basic
Because of these I also can't upgrade using keys
Welcome to the forum
did you try CD Starup Repair?:
Startup Repair=Performance Maintenance
OR the command prompt SFC /SCANNOW
I have this dialog box coming up all the time............
It just sits there ....doesn't do a thing.............unless I cancel it.
I think the problem came when I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Home & student 2010.
I finally did this & have gone back to a system restore point but still have this Installer box coming up.
It is getting annoying & time consuming.
I have googled it & found a multitude of answers....some i tried.....others seemd to complicated.
I am a novice at this.
Anyone with the patience to help me please?????
It seems as if you have done a poor un-installation of Office. Only ever un-install programs using the Add/Remove function in Control Panel.
Try reinstalling the Office package, restart, un-install from add/remove, restart then open Internet Explorer.
This should fix your problem.
If not post back.
