I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi joeljacob,

Is this message being displayed when you try to boot your computer, or is it being displayed when you have got into Windows?

Do you have the Windows XP Disk with you?

Here is what I have. WinXP-SP2 on a Western-Digital HD with Nortons Anti-virus and a restore program called Goback<also from Nortons.
I have irreplaceable info on this Drive and I can't just simply reformat the Drive.
Also if I hook it up as a slave, it is not recognized by the master but it is recognized in the BIOS.

Hi guys, i have a problem with my windows xp.

when i try to boot up, it says "windows could not start because of an error in the software. load needed DLL's for kernel"

which obviously poses a problem for me wanting to use the bloody thing.

I have a repair disk that i was told to boot from. changed the BIOS settings so that it would boot from cdrom first but i just get the same message.

i dont give a toss about the data that is on there (i use external HD) so if anyone knows any way i can fix this issue i would be very grateful!

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi Hearn
There are some good help to be had on this forum. The good guys are severely overworked, so every once in a while I throw in a suggestion or two. Here's some things I would do.

1. Try to boot up in protected mode. Tap F8 key while doing a cold startup. You should get a screen that lets you select a method of starting up. Try "last good boot" or something like that.
2. If that don't work, repeat and try "safe mode". If that works, pick your name if you have administrator rights (which you probably do). If not, pic "Administrator" to get in.
Probably no password, so just hit enter. Once in, go to programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Restore to an earlier time (not too far back in the past). Restore points are shown as bold dates on the calendar. This should bring your computer up with all the settings form an earlier time when it was working fine. Do a normal restart to see if it works.
3. You didn't say much about the repair CD, but if it is capable of reinstalling xp, do so. If it will, you might try to do a repair. I think this is available on the first screen of the install CD. If that don't work, try again using the install xp. The next screen will give you the option of repairing while leaving all installed software in place. If this don't work, do a full install.
For the above, make sure that all the selections in the BIOS setup are set to boot on the CD. Else, you might be fighting the original installation which is corrupt.

Hope this helps.

Windows XP can't start. This is what I get:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system 32\hal.dll

Please report this problem as:

Please contact your support person to report this problem.

I am able to access recovery console and ran a few commands but had no luck there. I can't boot the system into anything else. What do I do? I am ready to tear my hair out because I have spent hours upon hours on this problem. By the way, the Windows XP comes with the used IBM machine I 've just bought recently so I don't have any related CDs. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Take care.

Hi,

Boot into the recovery console & type: chkdsk /r then press enter

This will check & replace any missing/corrupt system files, it normally works for this error.

Hope this helps

Rob

Edit: when you have done this & windows boots, download any windows updates.

A:Load needed for DLLs for Kernel

Read your netbook manual -- it should have a section which explains how to run the factory recovery when Windows won't start. Because it's a netbook, most of the rescue procedures aren't available to you since it doesn't have a CD drive. That means factory recovery needs to be performed rather than it just being a "last resort".

You can start by telling us the system manufacturer and model...and then be specific in describing what you deem to be the primary characteristics of your system problems .

Doing an inplace upgrade/Repair Install should not touch your personal files. But you should back them up first any way by using an UBurntu Live CD and saving them to an external USB HDD or Flash Drive. Then try the Repair Install

NTOSKRNL.EXE SOLUTION
1. Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD. Note: If you have a recovery CD or a restore CD and not a Microsoft Windows XP CD it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue.
2. Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key.
3. In the Microsoft Windows XP setup menu press the R key to enter the recovery console.
4. Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password.
5. Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32
6. You will then be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file type Y and press enter to overwrite the file.
7. Type exit to reboot the computer.

BOOT.INI SOLUTION
Option 1:

Boot from your CD and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. Then:

Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini
DEL C:\Boot.ini (you might want to rename it instead to something like bootini.old)
BootCfg /Rebuild
Fixboot

Option 2:

Boot from your CD and follow the directions below to start Recovery Console.

Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.
When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
When prompted, type the Administrator password. (if you didn't create one try pressing enter).

At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a specific command.

Most likely you will need to expand the file from the CD. The command would be expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll. Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD. Once you have expanded the file type "exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

Hi, I have a huge problem.

My computer was acting very strange along time ago, so I formatted it a long time ago. When I tried to reinstall Windows Xp, I formatted the hard drive to the NTFS and then started the installation process. Unfortunately, when I started it, it said setup cannot continue, error code 7. I searched for an answer, and someone on the internet told me that you must remove some ram. I removed it, and WinXP installation went pretty smooth. However, during it, the installation process could not read the disk, and I actually skipped some files. I started the computer after the installationl, but it doesn't work, and sayload needed DLLs for kernel. So I try reinstalling winxp, and then it says error code 8192, setup cannot continue. I have tried other winxp installation disks, but a similar problem always occur. Please help!!

Hi, do you have the original Xp Cd?
It will have to be the full Xp Cd, not an OEM [Original equipment manufacturer]
The Bios will need to be set first, in the boot order - it may already be set that way.

You need to try and repair the Boot Sector and the Master Boot Record.
Boot from Xp Cd...when prompted press [R]
Choose Windows installation [typically by pressing [1]
When prompted for password.
Press Enter.
At prompt type
fixboot

Press Enter
Then Type

Press Enter
Once the repair has be done - Type Exit, then restart your pc.

Why are you trying to boot from a CD?

To boot from the CD drive, you need to change your Boot Order to allow the CD/DVD drive to boot before the HDD in the BIOS.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I really suspect this is a hardware problem -- such as a failed motherboard or ram -- but you might want to try reloading the operating system if you have a Windows CD with the current version.

Sounds to me she did something to your system32 files. Though, I aren't really sure. Where does this error pop up? Was it in BSOD or just the black window itself? I think I may have the solution.

You will need your: Windows XP Install Disc
Then, you have to change your boot options. To:
CD-Rom
Hardware
Etc
Etc

Put your disc in and start your pc. It should take you to a screen saying:

Quote:

Press Any Key to Boot From CD

Press any key. It should take you to the main screen, wait until it says: Windows is Starting XP

After that, it should go to installation where it says: Please Press Enter to Install
Press "R" to go to the recovery console.
Then Follow the steps written in this article
http://www.computing.net/answers/win...el/133655.html

Hope this helps~ :D

I'm able to fix the problem with a repair installation of Windows, but after restarting Windows a few times, the error returns and I'm unable to startup Windows until I perform another repair installation.

Things I have tried:
-ran ChkDsk (no errors found)
-ran SFC /scannow to replace any missing files using the Windows CD, did not prevent error from happening again

Have not tried reformatting, would like to avoid that if possible.

Thanks in advance!

You need to make a Floppy disk and load your Raid drivers Inf files onto it and remeber to press F6 when loading from your WinXP disk right at the beginning .
I got this error recently after power flicker and fixed it by creating another bootcfg file.
Repair your installation run chkdsk then run bootcfg /rebuild
it will ask which install you would like to make the new boot.ini addition to press yes for which ever install your using.
it will prompt you or two more items
first is going to be the name of the new boot cfg
second will be the slash commands like /fastdetect for more info on these look em up on microsofts support site under bootcfg

hope this helps .. know this one is old but for any others hitting this boot brick wall this may or may not solve your problem without a fullreinstall of XP/XP pro

Hi Everyone on here.

I was reading on here about some other people that have a similar problem they have encountered when booting up windows XP however I believe my situation is a little different in that my harddrive is connected to an SATA port instead of IDE so when I go and try to repair windows, it says that the harddrive cannot be detected.

Also, I have internet explorer 7 on my computer and read that you have to take it off before repairs windows but how the heck do I do that when I cannot even get into windows to begin with.

any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED as I am so utterly frustrated with this thing that I want to throw it out the window.

Thanks!

A:"Load Needed Dlls for Kernel"

Im confused by your post, thats easy to do.
If Im reading this correctly you cannot boot because no drive is
detected.
You need to go into bios and tell it to treat your sata drives like a
ide drive. If raid is enabled disable.

thank you for your time and help. this is really frustrating.

A:BSOD help needed kernel data inpage error 0x0000007A

The system is crashing because during disk I/O one or more of your drives is reporting that it has suffered a problem and has sent the error to Windows. Because this occurred during critical disk I/O (kernel paging operation), Windows responded by BSODing.

Since this is the actual device telling Windows it's got an issue, it's very safe to assume that there is a hardware issue here. Since this is happening during kernel paging, I would initially point blame to the drive holding Windows, which I reckon is your SSD. Install any firmware update for it from the manufacturer's website. BIOS, mobo chipset and drive controller drivers can also affect this, so make sure those are updated as well.

If you want to do some diagnostics afterwards provided the updates don't fix the issue, run all the short tests on Seatools then check SMART data with CrystalDiskInfo. If the SMART data gives you a warning, and/or any of the tests on Seatools fails, then I recommend replacing the drive. If they don't show up anything, well, I still recommend replacing the drive.

A:Load needed Dlls for Kernal error

Hello helpmeplease209

This is the only fix I know for your problem

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326671

Here is how to do it

A repair won't lose any data, other than Service Pack (if not on CD), any Windows Updates and unsigned drivers, which will need to be re-installed afterwards.
Stay offline to do a repair and do not go online again without a firewall enabled. After repairing XP, install Service Pack (if necessary), firewall and then you must install all Critical Updates next.

NOTE
You cannot run a Repair of XP if IE7 is installed. The Repair will not reinstate IE6

Follow the steps below to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
1.Close Internet Explorer and any open windows

2.Click on Start, click on Control Panel

3.Double-click on Add/Remove Programs

4.Find the Internet Explorer 7 program - it should appear similar to the picture below

5.Click the Remove button and complete the removal. Your browser will revert to the last version of Internet Explorer you had installed on your computer, in most cases this will be Internet Explorer 6.0

Then run the Repair

How to Repair XP.
1.Boot the computer from your Windows XP CD.

2.When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen press [Enter] to start the Windows Setup.

Note: Do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", you Do Not want to load Recovery Console.

3.Accept the Licence Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.

4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press [R] to start the repair. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.

5.Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will then continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Hi everyone,
I have a Gigabyte GA-8i945P-G mobo with RAID 0 (2IDE HD) and 1 SATA storage HD. The only other deviations from the norm are using the tweaking guide from Karoush Ghazi .
I certainly hope I did not over tweak it to the point of not starting? One of last things I did was replace the IDE cables, but I turned disk write cacheing off in attempt to not lose data. Then I got the windows needs to check the disk and fix things anyway notice. About the 2nd or 3rd time it started I forgot to interrupt chkdsk and came back to a no start condition with the message "Load needed DLL s for the Kernal.

Hi - I have a G81915P Duo Pro mobo, XP and Vista on separate drives. I was (happily!) changing the boot order to select the OS. Then I increased (exchanged) my ram from 1GB to 2GB. The bios saw the new ram but XP sys info did not. It was recommended that I update my bios. So I went from F1 thru F3, F5 to F6. After each change I booted in bios fail-safe to XP. I did not notice that my Vista drive (IDE under a sata controller) was not shown in the boot up sequence selection.
So then I changed bios settings back to my original ones, saw my other IDE drives and booted into Vista.
Now I can only boot to XP by resetting my bios to 'failsafe' and to Vista by changing any bios setting. All very irritating!!
I have changed my bios back to F1 but it makes no difference.
Any ideas? TKIA

Thank you in advance for your time with another troublesome computer question and sorry for how long this post is Originally I was trying to install a wireless mouse and keyboard It was not installing so I got fustrated and shut down the computer After turning the coumputer on the next day I was receiving error messages regarding boot ini was missing and then windows system hal dll was missing Windows would not load so I popped in original Windows xp update cd and booted from disk I pressed R got Tried dlls to boot.ini xp, in only errors hal.dll, fix to missing load come needed to command prompts ran chkdsk and it came up with quot one or more errors have been found quot So then I ran chkdsk r restarted to boot from hard drive and got a blue screen that stated windows could not continue please run chkdsk Then I booted from cd ran chkdsk p found no errors then ran bootcfg Went through the three steps after rebuild and Tried to fix missing hal.dll, boot.ini errors in xp, only to come to load needed dlls renamed but I still get the same blue error screen I Tried to fix missing hal.dll, boot.ini errors in xp, only to come to load needed dlls went back to repair console and ran chkdsk No errors I slaved the hard drive to another hard drive running xp and I can access everything on the drive it just will not boot up I scanned the drive with Avira antivirus and Malwarebytes Anti-malware and had no infections I downloaded hal dll placed it in the system file even though there was one there and tried to boot as master Didn t work I then slaved it again went to command prompts on other hd switched to cd drive expanded i for hal dll and ntoskrnl exe and it seemed to transfer ok Then I mastered it again and receive this error Windows could not start because of an error in the software Please report this problem as load needed DLLs for kernel Please contact your support person to report this problem I went to repair console again and ran chkdsk no errors I tried to expand the files again but got this unable to create file hal dll file s expanded I transfered all important docs to thumb drive with intent to format and reinstall then remembered that my xp disk is an upgrade not the full os I do not have a floppy drive to insert the floppy for verification so I am not sure if I should go forward with this solution I was going to try to run msconfig but I can t figure out how to do it while it is slaved and I can not log in to windows while it is running as master I tried to run the regsvr but it told me the drive was not recognized as an internal or external operable or batch file Can you suggest any other scans or fixes I can rule out hardware issues as my other hd boots perfectly everytime Thank you for your time on this matter nbsp

Replaced failed HDD in laptop, need to load Windows 7 using the System Image DVD's.

Can this be done?

If so, what are the steps?
Is special hardware needed?
Do I need to format hard drive first?

I have already tried by using the "Repair Disk" created along with the "System image" disks, it's apparently not as simple as just following the prompts.

Thanks.

Hello all,

Somehow I got the error message "Can't load kernel" when I started my Win XP after installing something. So I installed XP again from my cd, but without deleting the other version, so I could maybe restore the file/files that are missing. I would like to recover the older version of XP, so I wouldn't loose al my program files etc.
So is there a way to copy something from my new windows folder to the old one, so it would work again?

Thanks in advance

Set BIOS to load your CD drive before your hard drive
Reboot
It will log into the CD (hopefully)
Then run the "fix windows" process on the CD

Please post the exact error messages (screenshots if possible (I realise in your situation - probably not!)) if you get any problems

This link will give you a rough guide on how to change Boot order

Can you restart your computer and press F8 and boot into Safe Mode? If so, go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. In the Command Prompt type a Y for Yes and reboot the computer. Check Disk will run at next boot up.
If you can't boot into Safe Mode, Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Disk Check Outside Windows (Windows XP) The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools, or WD DataLifeGuardin my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

A:Windows Could Not Start Load Need Dlls For Kernel

Is this a new message? What happened to start this, if you know? Do you have the Recovery Console installed as a boot option? Are you installing for the first time or has the computer been running all right? What is the exact wording of the message, literatim?

Try booting from one of the media below. They contain a generic boot.ini that defaults to the first partition of the first drive and the "Windows" folder. But there are options for any of 3 partitions on the first 2 hard drives and "Winnt" folders if that is where your system is installed.

Download XP Sysboot media here:
Bootable Sysboot Floppy
Bootable Sysboot CD Image

If you do not have a burner that will burn ISO images, or if you don't know how, then use this Standalone CD/DVD/ISO Burner to create a bootable CD from the image above.

Hello well last night I had tried to update NET Framework for my HP a y computer I was directly updating this from load Dll Error: of after Kernel files; reinstall for WinXP the Microsoft website My computer popped up saying that it could not install due to an error As I went to grab a piece of paper and pen I was sitting at my desk and this next thing happened literally within seconds McAfee popped up saying that I had a Trojan didn t have time to read it and then the computer crashed and went to the blue screen of death It then told me there was an error with the OS that caused the crash and if this was the first time I had seen this error to restart the computer I restarted and nothing It loaded the Startup window where it mentions which keys to press to enter the BIOS Setup or Recovery I chose the recovery option and it started the process and then errored out I pulled out my WindowsXP Recovery Disks that I created using my Windows OS a couple years back I went ahead and chose to do a full reinstall since I Error: load Dll for Kernel files; after reinstall of WinXP had nothing on this HDD to lose Everything appeared to install just fine however when it Error: load Dll for Kernel files; after reinstall of WinXP restarted to Windows the Windows splash screen appeared then went to a black error screen with the following error load Kernel Dll files I did run the recovery console and checked the HDD for any errors It found one and corrected it I also ran McAfee and it found no viruses I am at a loss as to fix this one I fortunately do have an OEM Windows XP disc that has been unused I bought it for another computer that I was planning on fixing If I absolutely have to I can do a completely clean install but I really don t want to have to go this route I am also hoping that my HDD hasn t gone bad but if so I am willing to replace it Thanks for all the help I have HP a y Windows XP SP GB RAM upgraded from the original MB Intel Pentium Ghz

A:Error: load Dll for Kernel files; after reinstall of WinXP

Try booting into safe mode and using command prompt, run chkdsk.

To boot into safe mode:
After you see the manufacturers logo, repeatedly hit F8 (usually) and you will get a list of choices, choose "Safe Mode" at the top. Then after you are logged into safe mode, go to:
Start --> Run --> in the text box type cmd --> type chkdsk

it will scan and let you know of any problems, if it says to, run chkdsk /r, it may say /f.

Let me know if that works!

I am attaching a screen shot of the Kernel-PnP Event 219 that suggests that a device driver is failing to load at start up. I have been receiving this message for about three weeks and can't relate it to any particular event on my computer. I have trawled the net and had a look at Device Manager but I can't ascertain which driver is not loading and presumably needs to be updated.

I downloaded some software called "Driver Manager" and that has identified 28 out of date drivers. To correct the problem I have to pay a subscription that I can not really afford. Can someone help me identify which driver is causing the problem please?

A:Kernel-PnP Event ID 219 Driver failed to load problem.

Judesman, I don't recommend paying a subscription as you can get the drivers yourself. That seems to be a plug n play device, look ath the user action section in this link Kernel ID 219

I have recently setup a raid 0+1 array on a computer with 4 identical hard drives. I installed windows 7 and the installation without a hitch. However on the reboot a windows error message appears and says the following:

File: \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Status: 0xc0000221

Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried many things in an attempt to resolve this issue. I have tried reinstalling, using a different DVD drive and removing the RAID array to no avail. I have also disconnected the hard drive which is not associated with the RAID array also to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated as i have been trying to solve this problem for several days now and i have come up with nothing.

thanks in advance

A:0xc0000221 Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt

Greetings,

In order to help troubleshoot I will need more information about the setup your using. Have you choose to use raid 0? Or raid 1? Have you configured the bios correctly? Do you have the raid drivers?

Click here to download the LOP uninstaller. Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.

When it is finished restart your computer.

if you cannot get to that site then it is also available here http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/lopremover.exe

then download CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk then Run it
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.
Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

and while you are at the adaware site download and install http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml

and run it before the main adaware scan and follow it's directions

Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least SE1R13 16.10.2004 or a higher number/later date
Then ........
click the "Scan" button. and select full scan

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries. You can safely ignore any MRU entries though and not delete them

reboot again

Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/

reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

Hi. My name is Joan. I didn't know what forum to get started in so perhaps one might advise me. I am 69 and a retired widow. I am paying 70.00 a month for internet through Century Link here in central FL. Not many options in a rural area. I have what is called a stand alone DSL(forgive me if I don't word correctly). I don't have a home phone because I don't see the need. Why can't my internet provider change my status? I have talked to them many times but get no where. I can't believe with the technology we have today that my problem cannot be resolved. If I have gotten to you in error, I apologize. I just need some answers. Thanks.

Download the latest version of Hijack This 1.98.2 and post a fresh log from it.

Then click: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html to download CWShredder, but don't run it yet.

Next click: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe to download the Backdoor.Agent.B Removal Tool from Symantec. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your Windows desktop.

Close all the running programs.

If you are on a network or have a full-time connection to the Internet, such as a DSL or cable modem, disconnect the computer from the network and Internet.

Double-click the FxAgentB.exe file to start the removal tool.
When you receive the message telling you start any other applications, click OK.

Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer.

Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

Be sure to save the log file the removal tool creates to post back here later.

Run CWShredder immediately. Click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do its thing.

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and the log created by the removal tool.

I am trying to log into Windows Vista x64 and... The computer - NOT I - forgot my password. (ie: the password I normally use is not working.) I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (a special waadaad Promo version I received at the #PopTech! Conference last October) via VMWare on my Mac. I only use this for Quicken, and it's been a couple of months since I've opened it.

I need to get in there ASAP, as I have a meeting with my accountant and need to make major updates by Monday.

I have not created a password reset disk, and I definitely do NOT want to lose the Quicken data I already have entered.

Someone please help me get in!

Thanks so much,

A:Help Needed!!

This is common on Asus motherboards with Nvidia chipsets using the Nvidia firewall.

From the Web:

Quote:

The software in question is the nvidia firewall that comes with the asus a8n-sli motherboard chipset driver cd, when installed it causes corrupted downloads and installs ie: cannot do online anti-virus scans. To get round reformatting and reinstalling windows I removed the nvidia program from add/remove programs and booted into safe mode, I then ran crap cleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/ , and removed all temp files and booted into normal mode ran crap cleaner again and it removed all nvidia entries that were no longer needed. Now everything installs fine, just remember to install another firewall such as zonealarm which is free. hope this helps in some peoples case with the error 1006.
