Computer Unresposive while using 7.2 Mbps 3G High Speed Broadband.

Q: Computer Unresposive while using 7.2 Mbps 3G High Speed Broadband.

Hi ya'll. I have a Hp dc5000 Tower pc. The problem is recently, whenever I connect to the internet using my 3G Modem, the computer becomes very unresponsive, any browser, software or window that was open displays "....(Not Responding)" at the top. I decided to be turning of Kaspersky antivirus since its said to slow down performance while updating the virus database but there's very little if any difference. What might be the problem?

Preferred Solution: Computer Unresposive while using 7.2 Mbps 3G High Speed Broadband.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When connected test your internet speed at speedtest.net See if you are getting 7 MBPs on 3G.

Hello,

I plugged in an N-adapter to a USB hub and it gave me a 6 Mbps in www.speedtest.net. I thought this was kind of slow for what the adapter "claimed" (300Mbps). But then I plugged it directly into a computer port and it showed 24 Mbps (my internet plan is 25 Mbps), which I suppose it's pretty close or even "maxed" because it's not really 25 Mbps all the time, right?

Is this normal? Is my USB hub crappy/old? Would it make a difference if I get a new USB hub?

Thanks.

A:Signal is excellent and speed is 1 mbps to 8 mbps?

From a quick look at you post, I think you are not using the right driver for the USB adapter. Also, XP has to be up to date to work with wireless.Does the computer have an Ethernet card? Can you possibly get an Ethernet cable and run it directly from the tourer to you old XP computer? If you can do that, you will have to do the Internet Wizard again so that it includes the Ethernet card in the network.Older versions of XP that are not up to date only work with Ethernet. Unless you disable wireless security. Which is a bad idea. Windows XP has a hard time with wireless security. However, I am not sure that would fix lour problem. Sometimes you have to do the XP Network wizard three times before it comes out right.

Hi I am in Hong Kong and I have been using this internet service provider which is considered to be the best ISP in Hong Kong for over years The speed was always perfect speedtest with A grade always But it was only until a week ago Since last week the speed has significantly and drastically dropped and it's like going like 56k speed age runs broadband High modem back to the k modem age or even worse Almost no webpages could be loaded Most local webpages could only show some pictures while a lot of pictures are ''dead'' It takes hours to load the MSN or hotmail pages which is absolutely not the peak traffic problem claimed High speed broadband runs like 56k modem age by the CS of my ISP They are High speed broadband runs like 56k modem age not solving problems and reject to send technicians here because they said quot Your IP address is correct so there is no problem quot and they said there were no maintainence or site work in my buidling and they 've checked that the speed was correct at their side It's MB s upload and MB s download IT IS TOTALLY NOT TRUE I have then tested with speedtest the result was either D or C grade with - packet loss I tried to download something MB but it took me minutes to finish High speed broadband runs like 56k modem age I've been living in this building for years and it is not really densely populated After all I strongly believe the problem is not about peak traffic The download speed was still that terrible until yesterday the download speed has become alright it has got to ninety MB per second something which is perfect but the upload speed was still that bad I can't upload any small attachment to email and took hours to send a small file to my friend I've checked with speedtest the download speed is X MB s but upload speed is MB s and the result is C or D with some packet loss What could be the problem Could it be the lan that's on-board lan fail or any other parts of computer partially fail Last week it was raining very heavily here but no flood These few days it's sunny and hot the whole day Could it be the reason

A:High speed broadband runs like 56k modem age

Welcome to the world of ISP it took 5 months and 6 engineers to solve my Internet speed issue. they kept telling me the problem was in my house so not their fault.. until I got someone who knew what they were doing, did one test on the junction to my house and diagnosed the problem in seconds. replaced the line to my house and effectively trippled the speed I got before I had any issues!!

to rule out a pc issue which its almost 100% not.. try connecting to your internet via a phone or tablet if possible and do tests using that device. if its the same slowness then its nothing to do with your gadgets.

a router/modem issue is possible.. but doubtful.

water could be the cause, depends how the cables enter your premisis.

I second that, the Lenovo team should take a closer look at this problem.I'm oscilating around 4MB/s, which is also slower than expected, sometimes even dropping to 2,5.It could be a driver fault, hopefully fixable.

I recently upgraded my internet from 25 mbps to 100, while I thought getting 9.5 was always normal for that speed, after the upgrade it is still sitting at the same speed. My other devices in the house are getting at least 70 mb/s via wifi while I have a hardwired connection. I've done everything I can think of, downloading newest drivers, calling my ISP, trying different modems cords connection types or devices. Nothing has made any change, there is no change in speed between wifi and hardwired eiher, they both cap at 9.52 mb/s. I'm currently updating to windows 10, and am on a different device, but in a few hours I will post again with system specs and the requested log.

A:Internet speed is being capped at 10 mbps

Do you have a DOCSIS 3 modem? The older models are DOCSIS 2.

Have you replaced your router?

It would help if you posted both the brand and exact model of modem and router.

I live in an assisted living establishment with wifi furnished free but it isn't the best.I'm showing 5 bars on my computer, but I'm only getting around 1 Mbps and I see a lot of the spinning donut. Are there things that I am able to do or am I at the mercy of the owner. He probably would not be willing to spend a little more cash just to satisfy a few of us old geezers.

A:I've got 5 bars wifi, but only about 1 Mbps download speed.

You have 2 effects - for one the owner probably went with a cheap connection (ask him what it is) and then there are several people connecting to the router which produces contention.

Hi Guys, Need some troubleshooting help with my connection. My speed has decreased drastically beginning in early January, dropping from 27-31mbps to 1.6 mbps
Here is what I have done so far
I have power cycled my router, and I have swapped out ethernet cables to both my router and to my PC.
I have bypassed my router and, direct connected thru my modem . Oddly enough, this was even slower
I am running teamviewer so I can simultaneously check speed on my other win 7 PC (3 feet away) where my download speed is 30.1mbps

I have wirelss devises in the house that have good connection so process of elimination points to my PC. It would be nice if it just stopped working all together. It is the slow speed that confuses me.

Buy an ethernet card and be done with it or have I missed something?

Thanks in advance for your assist

Tami

A:Solved: Help with troubleshooting speed. download is 1.6 mbps!!

And you are connected to your router via Ethernet?

What is the specs of the computer in question?
And since you mentioned that it worked fine prior to January, do you recall making any configuration to the operating system (e.g downloading new softwares...) or made any hardware changes with your current network?

My guess would be something to do with the Operating System that is consuming bandwidth resources making the said computer slow.

So I have a wireless network setup in our 4 bedroom apartment and I am connecting wirelessly on my desktop with a usb drive(hub is in another room). Half of the time I will have an excellent connection at 54Mbps, and then for whatever reason, will just plummet to 1Mbps but still says excellent signal strength. Right now its working perfectly fine, however an hour or so from now, will probably crash randomly. I have a feeling its my firewall because its disabled right now, but im not sure. Any other ideas?

A:Signal Strength = Excellent, Speed = 1 Mbps

Make sure you have the latest driver for the wireless adapter.

Could be the adapter or router beginning to fail. How to recover after the bandwidth plummets?

In an apartment building there are lots of opportunities for wireless interference, such as from 2.4Ghz cordless phones and other networks on the same or close channel.

Firewalls either block or not; I have never heard of them affecting speed as in your symptoms.

Sounds like a router/modem/ISP issue as it is affecting more than one device and not just your Win 8 laptop, might be worth checking the forums for those....

Internal and external speeds are fully different. Your internal hard drive runs off the South bridge Chipset, which all new SATA controllers are SATA III 6G. The USB 3.0 runs off a completely different controller or Chipset, such as AsMedia or VIA Chipset. That 40 MBS is actually a good transfer rate speed for an external 3.0 port.

My Motherboard has USB 3.0 boost, and there was only one USB 3.0 flash drive in it, and the transfer rates were between 20mb to 35 mb a sec, which I think is normal for a flash drive. All other flash drives are USB 2.0 that I use in the ports

Hi,

I need a help to resolve one issue with my Belkin router F7D4402 v1. I have got it recently and configured it without any issue and my internet (ADSL) was up and running. However, later I have noticed that, my internet speed is limited to 1.5 Mbps. whereas; the speed I was getting on my old Linksys WAG200 router was minimum 2.0 Mbps.

I have tried to disable the QoS and other options but no use. But when I enabled the Mac cloning it worked fine. I was getting the speed I subscribed for, but unfortunately, the other devices on my Wi-Fi stopped working. With Mac clone enable, the internet is only available to my PC.

I need the internet on my PC plus all the Wi-Fi devices in my house and along with it my full internet speed, not just 1.5 Mbps.

Can anyone please help to fix the issue?

Thank a lot.

So would the 21Mbps thing help? As in, in the same network, will the 21Mbps perform better than the 14.4 Mbps one or will they be similar in performance?
I'm thinking, if these have different compression and/or modulation technologies, the 21 Mbps card might have an advantage, like a 56k modem has better speeds than a 33.6k modem on a same not-so-good analog telephone line, mainly due to the different compression technology involved. I couldn't find proper information about this in the internet, so posted this question.

Thanks,

I have a laptop running XP home.I have plugged my new CD burner into the USB port and I am now getting the above message.I may be nuts, but I don't think I was getting this message 2 days ago when I first plugged the device in.
Device manager shows the followingno problems with devices)

USB root hub driver M/S 7/1/2001 V 5.1.2600.0
VIA rev5 or later USB universal host controller VIA technologies with same driver info

USB Mass storage device(cd burner)

Everything seems to be working fine.I am using the on board XP burning software with no problems.
If this is something that I can easily correct,I'd like to.

Have made no hardware or software changes after adding the burner.
Thanks for any info.

Hi I ve been experiencing some problems with my RangeMax wireless NETGEAR router model WPN in terms of wireless connectivity When directly plugged into my router i e using ethernet cables the download and upload speed in mbps - megabytes per second appear to be working correctly where we register average download speeds of - mbps and to mbps for upload speeds as shown on speedtest net However our wireless devices i e laptops and Nintendo Wii are not picking up the same download speeds but the upload speed is fine The problem is that the download speeds of the wireless devices are comparatively low where speeds of to mbps are a commonality We ve tried resetting the router pushing that small button at the back of the router using a pin and WPN824 download for Desperate problem mbps Solved: NETGEAR assistance!!!! speed - have a new -character key password We ve also tried simply unlugging the power cable to the router with disconnecting lengths of about seconds to over a minute for separate attempts It is also worth noting that the router occasionally disconnects and re-connects on irregular intervals and we have many wireless devices attached to the router though many of these are not in use and are very often disconnected from the internet so I do not think the router is being overwhelmed I am currently paying for mbps downloading speed and mbps with respect to uploading though the mbps downloading speed will likely only be registered if directly connected to the black box modem As such values of to mbps for downloading speed for a wireless device would be considered quot normal quot Why would our wireless devices not pick the correct mbps download speed Is it possible that there Solved: NETGEAR WPN824 mbps download speed problem - Desperate for assistance!!!! is a setting on the NETGEAR SMARTWIZARD page that is preventing this Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Thank you for your time Trav nbsp

Recently, I reinstalled my Netgear wna3100 driver. Ever since then, I've been experiencing problems with high pings in games where I normally never had problems with. Pages load slowly even just the home page of Google.

I've attached my ipconfig picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A:High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I would also (while the device is plugged in)
go into the control panel - system - device manager - click the properties for it and make sure it's set to always on there as well.
I don't think the ipconfig can tell us much here since it's a data rate problem of some sort and not a actual connection problem from the sound of it.

The two things I mention above will hopefully keep your system from putting the device in 'low power mode' which may , or may not help your current problem.

I'm also curious if your system has recently slowed down in any other ways?

Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my DSL Broadband speed from the basic to the next level. My question is how much difference in performance will there be? What am to expect that will improve? What are the pros and cons on a faster broadband speed? Is broadband speed relative to modem speed?

Looking forward to your responses.
Thanks

A:Broadband Speed Vs Modem Speed

Broadband is normally MUCH faster than a dial-up modem. However, I think from your post that you already have broadband but want to upgrade to a more expense package. The difference in speed will be totally dependent on your internet service provider and what type of packages they offer.

I have wireless internet through my cable provider. My signal strenght varies from 5 to 48 mbps on most days. Why isn't the signal consistent and what causes my internet to get so slow. Is there anything I can do...call my cable provider?

A:High speed internet not so high speed

"call my cable provider?"

No. You are mixing up some terms, but it doesn't sound like this is an ISP problem.

For now I'm going to assume that you have cable internet service and a wireless router. If not, please describe. If so, please post the brand and model of your modem and router (or modem/router combo).

Wireless signal strength is usually given in terms of "n bars out of 5" or "good," "excellent," etc. What is yours, and does it vary? How close is the PC to the router, and what obstructions are in the way?

When your bandwidth varies from 5 to 48mbps it could be an adapter or driver or router problem, but more likely is wireless interference. Are there other wireless networks on your same (or close) channel?

Some people first just try changing channels (in North America the non interfering channels are 1, 6 and 11) without trouble shooting to see if that helps.

If you are having difficulty determining the channels of the networks you detect use NetStumbler for help: www.netstumbler.com

At this point I'm stumped. This PC has a fresh install of Windows 7, up-to-date. It is a Dell OptiPlex 780.

First question... Are they high speed hubs?
I have an older 4 port Dlink here that's never run 480... looking into the chip on the internal circuit board, it turns out to be a 12mbps chip... you can slow them down, but you can't scare them into running faster.

Hi All,

I have an Adaptec USB 2 Connect 4000 B in my PC and just realized that two of the ports are not recognized as high speed. I was running off of the windows default driver so I went and updated the driver and after all ports were "optimized" I thought the problem was solved. However, now the computer does not recognize anything that is plugged into the card. I can roll back to the windows default but was curious if anyone has any thoughts as to why only 2 ports would come up as high-speed.

Any help is appreciated.

A:Hi-Speed USB ports not registering as high speed

Some hardware have USB 2.0 and 1.1 backward compability un seperate USB ports. It can also come from the device you connect and also the USB card's speed compared to your PC.

Try rolling back to the Windows default settings. If nothing can be detected still, that can be a presence of hardware defect. Return and exchange.

You'll have to ask Virgin, I imagine that's location specific.

I have tried "OOKLA" www.speedtest.net/ and www.broadbandspeedtest.co.uk and the results are quite different. Ookla gives twice the download speed results compared to the other. Can anyone recommend a speed tester?

A:broadband speed

The way I gauged my download speed was to download something large from GigaNews. After a few minutes any "surge" settles down and you get a steady rate. Tests with small data tend to favor ISPs that give a short burst, boost, or spike. If the download is less than 100 MB or so, it's too short to get past the download spike.

I am an unsophisticated user I have some questions regarding broadband speed I have AT amp T DSL Elite Internet I found a link to an FCC site wherein you can test your broad band speed link http www broadband gov The Broadband speed results I got were as follows Download speed kbps Upload speed kbps Latency ms Jitter ms When I mouse over my internet icon in the system tray it says Local area connection Speed Mbps Status Connected I went to the AT amp T website and checked the various DSL options and they advertise as follows Pro internet Downstream speeds up to Mbps Elite Internet Downstream speeds up to Mbps Max Internet Downstream speeds up to Mbps Max Plus Internet Downstream speeds up to Broadband speed Mbps Max Turbo Internet Downstream speeds up to Mbps Now for the questions Can I assume the the connection speed of Mbps as represented by the internet icon in the system tray is a maximum potential Am I reading the results of the test correctly and my actual internet speed is approx of the speed being advertised by AT amp T If is true would that be a problem with my hardware computer or modem or the network I have no idea what an acceptable value would be for Latency or Jitter are the figures shown in the test results O K Note regarding question There was a class action lawsuit filed against AT amp T regarding their internet service actual speed being less than expected and I received a small setllement check as part of the class Thank you for any information you can provide

A:Broadband speed

I made the original post above, 2 days ago.  More than a little ironically, today I received a letter from AT&T, dated the same day (March 4) that states, "As part of our ongoing effort to provide you with the best possible internest exprerience, we regularly conduct quality checks to test the speed of your AT&T High Speed Internet service at your modem.  Our tests indicate that you are experiencing throughput speeds slower than the speed tier associated with your service plan."

As a result, they are lowering my monthly price.  This raises 2 questions:

1)  Is there any chance that AT&T monitors this website and is taking the above action as a result?
2)  What is throughput speed?  Is that the speed going into my modem from AT&T, or the speed that is going into my computer from the modem?  If the former, does that mean that no matter what plan I choose, with whatever modem, the internet speed I currently have is all I'll ever have with AT&T?

Thanks again.

Hi there seems to be so many 'Broadband speed' tests, which ones are the most accurate ? or are they very much the same?

Thx

A:Broadband Speed?

The test results can vary greatly, depending on which site you use, the location, and the time of day.

I'm fortunate to have a speed test site that my ISP provides locally, so the upload and download speeds are usually within 90% - 100% of what I pay for.

Hi

You should post this in the networking section here.

1. Are the network settings the same on all 3 computers? Especially DNS. Or are all 3 computers set up using DHCP?
2. Do you have anything else running at the same time as browsing? Especially updating software like antivirus/Adobe/Java/Apple or Quicktime/Windows updates? Try to stop it if you have.
3. Do you have any Firewall software running? You can temporarily disable it and see if it makes a difference.
4. Is the 3rd PC still slow when the other 2 are disconnected?
5. If you ping www.google.com do you get any timeouts?
6. Have you tried to use a different browser like Chrome or Firefox if you are using IE? You can also try resetting your browser or disabling any add-ons
7. Is the network cable of the 3rd PC running next to any power lines, fridges, heaters or anything that can cause electrical interference?
8. If you go into the properties of your network adapter and click on the advanced tab, is "Media Type" set to "auto Select"?

Please let us know.

I have Tiscali ASDL 512MBS

Over the last 2 days the speed had slowed well down

using the online speed checks I get the following:

Direction Actual Speed True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 466 Kbps (58.3 KB/sec) 503 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 111 Kbps (13.9 KB/sec) 119 Kbps (inc. overheads)

at one time the upstream was 33Kbs

I have a wireless router/modem and the problem occurs on all 3 networked PCs.
Is the problem with me or Tiscali?

that 100 mbps is how fast you can transfer files from your pc to another pc on a network, not your internet speed. it will not change from upgrading internet services. you can test your internet speed by going to http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html and running there test. there are also other sites that will test your connection too. hope this helps

Can you tell me what is the best broadband speed checker please.

SpeedTest.net used to be very good at testing the speed of your broadband limit, but lately it isn't being as accurate as it used to be, or at least thats what I think.

I have 20Mb broadband but when I use speedtest.net it only gives me a download speed of 14.5Mb, but if I download a file and see at the end of the download what the speed was it usually give me a result of about 16.5Mb.

Is the speedtest.net wrong or is the information given at the end of a download wrong?

A:What is the best broadband speed checker?

It depends on lots of factors such where the file is coming from and the speed of the host, IMO speedtest.net is the best all round site, but I get poor results from the speedtest UK servers and only get near full speed from their Roubaix (France?) server.

Edit
Today Roubaix sucks and Morcambe rocks

At the end of November begininning of December I switched to a different broadband package within AOL changing from AOL Gold to Broadband wireless The wireless package is up to Meg in speed but I know that approx Meg is the maximum available to me To begin with all was well and I was getting good speeds when web browsing etc but after two or three weeks the speed suddenly decreased from Meg to approx kbps I queried this with technical support and jumped through all the hoops they asked me to unplugging replugging power cycle of Help please! Broadband speed. line the wireless router etc all to no avail They then decided there was a fault on my line and reported this to BT BT said the line was fine A reset of the line by AOL finally brought my speed back up to Meg After another couple of weeks exactly the same thing happened again I went through the same hoops with Technical Support then they decided there was a fault on the line BT said there wasn t and this time an engineer was sent out to do some checks at the exchange then come here The morning of the engineer s visit my speed was still slow after his checks at the exchange it went back to approx Meg That was Broadband line speed. Help please! a week ago Yesterday my line speed fell dramatically again to the point that speed tests Broadband line speed. Help please! now show a downstream that averages at about kbps This morning I ve done a full power cycle more in hope than anticipation but it has had no effect I ve read where people have had trouble understanding the various measures of linespeed in relation to the rate they believe they should be receiving and I fully admit that this could apply to me too However what I am seeing is a huge difference between results on the same websites for example Broadband line speed. Help please! on Broadband Watchdog from kbps to kbps these tests being done several times to exclude the possibility of them being affected by time of day demand on the website etc For the third time my upstream figures are now higher than those for downstream I also see a big change in results from the speedtester bt com checker After the engineer called last week my IP profile showed as kbps with the DSL connection rate the same as it is now Actual IP throughput was approx kbps Today the results show as follows Test comprises of Best Effort Test -provides background information IP profile for your line is - kbps DSL connection rate kbps UP-STREAM kbps DOWN-STREAM Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - kbps I ve already tripled my phonebill for this month with calls to Technical Support and honestly don t know what to do next I m hoping that someone reading this may have some insight into what the significance is of the change in IP Profile for example and I apologise for such a long post I m connecting my PC to a Thomson Speedtouch router using an ethernet cable Operating system is XP Many thanks to anyone who has got this far nbsp

A:How Do You Increase Broadband Speed?

I verywell could be. The download speed is determined by several factors. The most restrictive is how much bandwidth will the remote server let you have to download the software. I have 6Mbps download speed. MajorGeeks and Download.com seldom allow me more than 250Kbps and it is not uncommon to be as low as 150Kbps. With that said I have downloaded from Source.Forge.com at over 2.5Mbps on occassion. Have you tried testing your download speed? Try testing your speed at the following link.http://performance.toast.net/

I've run speed checks on my connection here, 15mbit/15mbit fiber, and my Toshiba running XP-Pro gets 15mbit, but the HP running Vista-32 only manages around 9mbit. I am not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a problem. I have a broadband connection, which is running about 2800 download on the computer the modem is hooked to. I use my laptop to work from, have to connect through a VPN to access our clients servers. On my wireless laptop, I am getting 980 download speed. Both have Windows XP and I don't have them networked. The desktop is hooked via cable to the modem, the laptop and three other desktops are using a wireless connection.

Would going through VPN slow me down that much? Unfortunately, our client uses some resource hungry program and my productivity is going down hill. Would it help if I used a cable for the laptop and hooked it to my router? I didn't know if utilitzing the wireless card made me lose speed.

Best was Virgin Media Croydon with 125MB (I am on 120MB at present) and 12ms ping (I used to get 7ms) with slow upload again!

may be very surprised to see the variance in results.

Recently got a mobile broadband dongle for my laptop, shows 7.2 Mbps speed in the status window and under activity the received bytes is shooting up, as I write this is has went from 25,000,000 to 35,000,000, that's about 10 mg for a few seconds, it does this even when I have no page open, I can't see anything in task manager, I don't know why it's downloading so fast when there's nothing there, also because of this it is slowing my browsing down, any ideas why it's doing this?

A:Solved: Mobile Broadband High Usage

Some app on your PC might be accessing the internet without your knowledge. I've never used Win XP Home, but try pressing Win+R to open the "Run" diaog, then type "cmd" and press Enter. Type "netstat -b" but DON'T press Enter until you notice the received bytes shooting up. When that happens, press Enter to see which executables are accessing the internet at that moment. It should provide a clue. Look for any exe names that you didn't install or start yourself.

Please download and install Speccy. Once it is installed and opened, please go to File then Publish Snapshot. Post the resulting link in your next reply.

Hi guys

Plz help.

I have a new HPG62 laptop and in recent weeks my internet speed has taken a servere nosedive. BT have renewed the cabling to property but connection still poor.

My LAN is showing as disabled in the task manager and my Wireless Network connection is connected and shows a link speed of about 19Mbps.

What can I do to speed up my connection?

Recent speedtest (prior to BT visit) showed:
download speed during test: 87 Kbps
acceptable range 50 - 250 Kbps
DSL connection rate: 1824 Kbps (down) 448 Kbps (up)
IP profile for line: 135 Kbps

A:Poor broadband connection/speed

Ok:Some questions.
What was the speed prior to "nosedive ?
Make and model of modem and router?
What speed are you paying for ?
If your download speed is 87 kbps, that is truly pathetic. How did you determine this ?
Are you supposed to have both a lan connection(
Ethernet cable connected to the router) and a wireless connection ?
If just wireless,may we see:
Wifi test exe. Hint from Johnwill

Download and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspecto from
www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
on the problem machine. Post a screen shot of the main screen(networks screen) here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button
to upload it here.

Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

Full details are here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_...g_a_Screenshot

May we see the results of a speedtest?

Firstly the braodband I have is 6 Meg. When I test it using www.speedtest.com on my laptop it works fine, that is you can see the dial move straight up to around 5 Megs and remain there until the test is finished. I have no issues using the laptop(win XP) But when i use my PC (win vista)thats the problem, it fluctuates around 5 Meg and then jumps up to 20 Meg which is impossible then back down, and back up again. It does'nt remain steady.
When Im downloaded it drops up and down, whereas on the laptop it does'nt. Its download speed remains in or around the same for the length of time it takes. I'm wondering what could be causing this.
Any comments much appreciated.

Hi All,

Two of my PCs sit side by side, are hooked to the same router, etc. but one tests out at about half the download speed of the other. Both have XP Pro Service Pack 2.... the one that tests faster (downloading) is an AMD 2GB RAM w/ a Marvel Yukon PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller and the one that downloads slower is a core 2 duo w/ an Intel 82566DC Gigabit network controller.

I don't get it! The one tests at 7648 kbps and the other in the 4,000 range.... I have updated the driver... it didn't help so I dropped back to the original. My core 2 should be kicking the other's butt!

ANy help would be appreciated.

A:Broadband Speed Speakeasy Test

Try switching the port numbers to them and see if there is a difference that way. If the AMD is set at Port 1 and the Intel is set at port 2 just switch them. If there is no difference it is the network card that is at fault.

please bare with me as i have a bit of a story october th life is good we have speed off dropped download has Broadband ADSL and our family is happy with it i can download Broadband download speed has dropped off large files while my daughter watches Netflix and my sons go online and play xbox or ps and my mrs can browse facebook and we have very little lag october th our family went for a weeks holiday with friends so as a precaution i turn everything off and unplug the TV's computers etc from the powerpoints just to protect against current surge due to storm activity october th we get home and unpack then proceeded to plug everything back in and get back and catching up with the internet world we had but for some reason our ADSL has slowed considerably as it is now if someone wants to go online then they have to wait for someone else to get offline we contacted our provider asap and we went through a mountain of speed tests and all the crap they say they need to do to test the system we even had tech guys come to our home twice and do tests on both occasions the tests they did showed we were getting mb plus to our wall socket and even doing speed tests from speedtest net showed less but more than we could get during downloads before the holiday i could download at to mb per sec but now i'm lucky to get to kbps anyway once the tech guys did their test they left saying all they were worried about was the connection speed at the wall socket now its up to you to fix it great support from them so my setup was i used an ethernet cable plugged into the motherboard ethernet port to get online and everyone else uses wifi my isp said to check the port setting and they looked fine to me so i purchased a wifi pci express card which i installed and i am still using now the family says that when i turn my computer OFF their online signal improves dramatically so my question to this forum is what can i check to find out what is on my computer that is throttling back the internet speeds tests ive done a turned anti virus off and tested download links from known sites that i got great speeds from before b changed to a larger solid state drive thinking it would increase the cache size c been up early on a couple of times to ensure i am the only one online and still have slow speeds so far we are still encountering this problem its slowly driving the whole household crazy with frustration cheers Anthony Birch i should also mention that our isp wouldnt send a new modem under warranty so we had to re-sign to get a new modem which made no improvement at all

I just ran both "broadbandspeedchecker" and "speedtest.net" and I get wildly different results. I ran both programs 3 times each. "broadbandspeedchecker" gives an average of 38.6MBs download, while "speedtest.net" averages 14.8MBs. Upload is approximatly the same at 0.85MBs. I ask myself "how can this be"? I don't believe I could ever reach 38MBs as I don't have fibre, and I have little to complain about reliability, but is there a reliable way/program to test it anywhere.

A:How trustworthy ate broadband speed checkers?

I agree with you about the variable Results.
I have always assumed that they favour the Supplier that contributes the most to their Funding, although not necessarily directly to them!

A:How to speed up my broadband internet connection?

Hi Razer2k13

Your Internet speed can be attributed to a few different things

Line speed from your ISP

Type of line

Distance from your exchange

Time of Day

If you use a router go in to its settings and look for something like DownStream Connection Speed / UpStream Connection Speed, this is the speed your router gets and can be quite different to the speed your browser can see/use.

In my room i have a high speed broadband connection and it works fine when i am using the internet alone. In my fathers room he has decided to keep using his dial up connection. When my father connects to the internet (dial-up) it works fine, the second i turn on my router it immediately reduces his dial-up speed immensely.

Could someone tell me why this happens and what i could do to make both connections preform normally?

Thankyou

My ISP Speed Question?. Download Broadband here in the UK is Virgin Media Broadband Download Speed Question?. I had the GB broadband as Broadband Download Speed Question?. part of a bundle ie TV-Phone-Broadband As we rarely watch tv much anymore last week I dropped the TV and took just the Broadband and phone option but doubled the broadband from GB to their maximum option of GB They did the changeover remotely and I could see that now we just had the freeview TV channels I tested the broadband on speedtest net and found that I was only getting the same as before ie Mbps on download and Mbps on upload I phoned them and after Broadband Download Speed Question?. talking to one of their broadband team he said that the problem was with my Virgin Superhub router Apparently it cannot support more than a GB connection speed He arranged to send me the newest router the Superhub which was the correct one for my package The router arrived yesterday I installed and activated it only to find that although my upload speed had doubled to Mbps my download speed remained at the same speed of approx Mbps I went back on the phone and the very helpful technician did some tests but nonetheless it remained on approx Mbps download and Mbps upload He arranged for one of their engineers to give me a home visit this morning The engineer arrived at am this morning and we went through the problem He did a number of tests showing me that there was in fact nothing wrong with the Superhub router as it was getting between amp Mbps download speed on his testing equipment He said that the problem must be somewhere in the Windows setup I thought perhaps it was my Realtek Ethernet Controller that was the problem and updated it to the latest drivers from th of October but it didn't help Can anyone here offer any insight into what could be causing this quot bottleneck quot for want of a better word
