I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nevermind turns out my dGPU was somehow disabled in Device Manager Though if this occurs again and it's not disabled in device manager I'll refer back to this thread dv6t on HP working graphics not Switchable laptop for helpProblem came back previously I thought it was stuck on the iGPU but just a problem with Device Manager My laptop is set up with switchable graphics between the iGPU Intel HD and the dGPU AMD Radeon HD M In my BIOS I have set the mode to Fixed In dynamic or switchable I don't remember exactly what it's called the graphics cards change seamlessly in fixed mode the display shuts down while the cards switch In Catalyst Control Center I have the graphics set to change based on whether my laptop is plugged in on battery iGPU is selected on AC power dGPU is selected Usually everything works as it should If I start up my laptop plugged in the dGPU is selected If I start it up on just the battery the iGPU is selected but if I plug in the AC adapter it prompts to switch to the dGPU Switchable graphics on HP dv6t laptop not working or I can use CCC to select whichever GPU I want at anytime Lately though it seems to be stuck on the dGPU When I boot up on battery power it defaults to the dGPU and I'm unable to switch over to the iGPU through CCC This has happened in the past but has been quot resolved quot with a driver update re-install for the dGPU Or of course an OS re-install I haven't installed any new software recently but with my dual-boot between Windows and Ubuntu the Windows MBR inexplicably got screwed up recently so I had to restore that however the problem with the GPU's has occurred in the past when I was not dual-booting so I'm not sure what could be causing this Everything looks good in device manager Any ideas or suggestions as to the cause or a solution Edit figured I should add that I have it set to fixed mode in the BIOS because CCC sometimes is very poor at judging which card it should use for which application and so sometimes selects the iGPU when I need to be using the dGPU for games and such

First, I suggest that you restore your original driver setup from when you first got this laptop while you perform tests of this new graphics system. In recent years the graphics drivers for both video chips had to be installed together as a package, and installing the stand-alone driver for the AMD or nVidia chip screwed things up for some folks.

That said, please be aware that I just started reading about these new graphics chips this week. I am hardly up to speed and certainly no expert.

But it is my impression, based upon this article here (nVidia Optimus, I know - but AMD and nVidia tend to mirror each other in technology):
Nvidia Unveils Optimus Switchable Graphics Technology | PCWorld
it sounds to me like the more powerful graphics chip does not "kick in" until you are actually doing something that requires more graphics power.

Here is the AMD article:
AMD Switchable Graphics Technology
While it is not clear, it could be assumed that they are doing the same thing.

Not having complete control over my computers settings would drive me right out of my mind! If these new graphics chips only run on automatic that is a real negative for me.

Let's see if others with more experience with these chips will chime in. I think this thread would be better in the Graphics Cards section for best exposure to the people who might know. I'll see what I can do about that.

I ve seen others online with this issue posted on the HP site with high hopes in a response and am hoping to get to the bottom of this issue Bought my Dv - us around August and started having these exact same issues around the end of September My setup is included in the txt file attached to this post I have done all of the tasks and suggestions that are given on the HP site updated all of my drivers that HP provides on there website that Intel provides on their website and that Windows Update detects removed any possibly problematic new software had my current setup all installed on a desktop machine before laptop on driver HP Switchable issue graphics custom built with absolutely no problems whatsoever ran the lastest anti-virus-malware-rootkit detection and found no errors or problems did multiple Memory HDD and periphreal hardware tests all passing successful with no errors reported everytime they are run have ran SFC in command prompt and it comes up clean no errors and have tested both quot Fixed quot and quot Dynamic quot modes in the new BIOS update for the video setup which doesn t seem to alleviate the problem Alright that being said here are Switchable graphics driver issue on HP laptop the exact symptoms my comp demonstrates when having this problem Some sort of video processing is occurring at the time of the BSOD It could be playing a video in either Media Player or VLC Skype video-chatting or the like I haven t experienced the problem while watching in-browser videos like on YouTube which leads me to believe somehow Flash is exempt but whatever The BSOD errors are different but the most reoccurring ones are quot System Service Exception quot the ol quot Driver IRQ Not Less Than Unequal quot or whatever that exact wording is and no message at all just a notification that a possible video driver is awry What happens then I turn off the computer to reboot turn it back on I get the boot-up options screen offering safe mode and whatnot try to boot in regular or safe Switchable graphics driver issue on HP laptop mode makes no difference get another BSOD lock-up during boot the comp automatically restarts I m asked to run Startup Repair which I do cause if I don t it rarely boots up correctly I don t choose a System Restore that has not helped when I tried it many times before The process runs takes about mins and then tells me it can t repair the issue automatically and wants to send the information online which I choose Then I look at the detailed error report and it always ALWAYS shows the same results All tests finish quickly several milliseconds and report no errors EXCEPT the last test checking System file information which takes the vast majority of that mins and returns the error quot x quot This has been like clockwork I found that if I uninstall video drivers and reinstall them then I get some reprieve for some time maybe a couple of days until the original BSOD happens again and then the cycle restarts I wonder is the fact that there are dual video options that switch even though as I stated above it doesn t matter if I turn this feature on or off in BIOS as well as on the desktop with the CCC Also the dedicated ATi drivers are based on AMD chipsets while the built-in drivers are Intel as is the processor does that seem like a conflict of interest In any case I m focused on figuring out this problem so I m spreading the word to the pros so we can get this figured out Cheers Mr Kyle

Hi and Welcome -I searched the Microsoft Windows 7 forums and found this answer that fixed one "Error 0x490" problem. - - -Your boot information is bad. afaik, you will have to do a startup repair to fix it.I could not find a MS link for this but I found this >> to boot into the recovey options >> (USE METHOD 2 !!!)and this >> to do the startup repair which actually looks at things like MBR and the BOOT folder. As with anything of this type, I strongly recommend backing up anything and everything - create an image of each and every partition.Hope that helps. How did this happen? I rather suspect that something happened, the system rebooted, and stopped at a screen which had something like system repair as a default, the timer went out, it did its thing, and unfortunately incorrectly. i have lost opsyses that way.I strongly recommend always setting:Control Panel / System / Advanced System Settings / (System Properties) Advanced tab / look at "Startup and Recovery" , click settings button - in system failure: uncheck "automatically restart"This will enable you to see any errors that are causing a reboot.See if the information is any help to you -Regards -

From what I can tell from the Dell documentation, you can only use one or the other and if the optional video, such as you have, is installed that is the default.

The Dell BIOS is protected and any attempt to modify the Dell BIOS will most likely cause it to Corrupt. There is no recovery from a corrupted BIOS on a Dell, the ONLY option is to replace the motherboard.

HP DV6 6121tx
Windows 7 64bit

I just reinstalled Windows and I want to update my graphics drivers to the latest ones (13.1). I'm runnning Dynamic mode.
So at first I installed the latest HP provided AMD Display drivers from HP's website
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv6-6121tx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP? Support

Now I thought I'm supposed to install any new versions of HP drivers *over* this since this HP one contained drivers essential for dynamic switching. But if I run the 13.1 installer and view the log, it skips over the display driver part and just updates AMD install manager and some other useless components.

How do I install 13.1 without messing up dynamic switchable graphics?

A:Updating graphics drivers on switchable graphics

Unless HP decides to release an updated driver, you're basically stuck with what you have. As you found out the driver from AMD won't install. That is because it doesn't include/support the switchable graphics.

Now with that said there is this modded set,

that includes both the latest AMD and Intel driver, and is modded to work with most laptops with that combination.

Hi: Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook... It only has the onboard Intel HD 4000 graphics. HP puts all the available driver combinations on the entire model series support pages. That means the switchable graphics drivers would be for the HP 15-e### models that come with the AMD/Intel switchable graphics.

A:Win 8 AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ

Eagerly waiting for Windows 8 to support switchable graphics. I am using Leschcat's driver for my 6770M on Windows 7 -- awesome performance.

One problem I have with Windows 8 is that it only runs on the AMD gpu, and not the Intel one. Due to this, it drains my battery really quick. Is there a way to make it use Intel only until switchable graphics are supported?

Also, the Intel 3000 drivers posted here crash after 2 weeks of installation. This has happened multiple times. The ones by Microsoft have the auto-bridghtness adjustment on and there is no control panel for the driver to turn it off.

I recently purchased a Samsung laptop with switchable graphics. I've selected the high performance card for GTA4, however the benchmark test for GTA4 detects the integrated card being used. Is there any way to check which card is currently active so I can determine whether GTA4 is detecting the wrong card or the Laptop is using the integrated card?

Thanks in advance.

A:Switchable Graphics

Switchable graphics determines which card to use based on load/demand. It should switch to the non-integrated graphics card when you launch the game. Do you really need to run the benchmark? You can compare the performance to other people using a similar graphics card to see if its up to par.

You can also do a comparison by turning off the switchable graphics in the BIOS, it can be re-enabled after doing the testing.

HD8670 , Installed intel drivers , then the amd ones. Set everything to highest possible. Even set minimum processor state to %100 at advanced settings of power management. I tried both plugged and unplugged. Tried 10 different games. Some of them uses steam , some of them dont. But i cant solve the problem. I tried a 2006 game disabling aa , shadows , reflections , texture filter. But still 25-30 fps. I took a look at the log files of games , and saw what? games are using intel graphics. My pc is saying me that everyting is fine about my graphics card. But its not. On youtube , i saw how my games work with onboard gpu and realised that , that videos was exactly like my PC's performance. I tried everything! Bios was no use , it has no option about graphics.

I have HP Envy M6 1102tx with 2GB Radeon Switchable Graphics card but Catalyst Control Center can't be started.... Tried updating the ATI Radeon and Intel HD Graphics drivers and still not working. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit

A:Switchable Graphics Not working

I had success as follows - you may want to give this a try:

Make sure you have the latest drivers for both graphics cards installed - Windows Update should take care of that.Check for the ccc2_install.exe object on your system - I found it at location c:\Programs Files\AMD\CCC2\Install\ccc2_install.exe (dated 13/12/2013 so looked original)Run that ccc2_install.exe and it will install and place an icon on the task bar (or on the desktop) which will allow the Switchable Graphics feature to be configured for running. Typically you can set programs or functions to run on low power graphics (those on-board) or the high power discrete graphics card ie. AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series card.

You can configure these settings as preferred or leave the default settings as they are and I believe it manages the switching process itself.

Please report back on the results so others can benefit - good luck.

Hi everybody, got a quick question.
I have two graphics cards on my Acer Aspire laptop, an ati 5650m and a Intel HD graphics card for low power use that I can switch too. I was wondering, if I'm just internet browsing or playing a low end game like counter strike, should I switch to my Intel HD so I can give my ATI a bit of a "rest"? Or does it damage your computer when you switch graphics cards frequently?

A:Switchable Graphics Card

I wouldn't think it would 'damage' your computer to switch from integrated to discrete graphics frequently. However, there's really no need to switch when you're browsing. I have both a GTX 560 and Intel HD Graphics and my computers running fine solely on the GTX 560. I currently have an Inspiron r It has switchable graphics between an Intel R HD Graphics and an AMD Radeon HD M card The issue is twofold nbsp Firstly my laptop has been suffering massive fps drops in any kind of computer game at all The second there is any strain on the graphics it plunges to sub fps Secondly in graphics. over control No switchable response to the first problem I ve No control over switchable graphics. done a lot to try solve the fps drops including uninstalling and reinstalling all kinds of drivers I am now convinced I have the right drivers but the problem is that I have no way of checking if the drivers are working properly It used to be the case where I could go on Catalyst Control Center but that s just upped and vanished and when I ve tried installing Radeon Settings it simply never detects the AMD driver I have Is there a way to get Radeon settings to work Or is there somewhere else I should be looking for a way to set my graphics up properly nbsp Inspiron R

Hello,I'd like to use WebGL on my Latitude 5570. Unfortunately it seems, that all browsers all locked to powersaving mode in amd switchable graphics. I've found a note from HP claiming, that applications using OpenGL can't be run with AMD Switchable graphics in some of their models. They offer switching to dedicated graphics in bios as a workaround. But there is not such an option in Dell's BIOS. Renaming exe file and adding it to AMD SG with performance setting doesn't work. Browser always says that webgl is not supported. Strange is that it works on another old notebook with Intel graphics only.
Thanks for any help.

A:Switchable Graphics Not Working...? [AMD + AMD] HELP!

Don't bother trying to change things with your uefi or bios you won't be able to. You have the new muxless design and there isn't a fixed mode for that. I suggest getting the latest amd drivers from AMD not from HP. Once you have them installed just use the Catalyst control center to set which graphics card you want to use for whichever program. For more information on switchable graphics Anandtech has some pretty good articles here:
AnandTech - AMD
AnandTech - AMD
AnandTech - AMD

How do I know all this? I also have a 7670m switchable only w/ intel integrated graphics on a Acer lappy. It was a super pain for me because of the intel version needing to be signed by amd; but the amd version of intel graphics were lower than the base version intel graphics in Win 8 which turned out to be a nightmare. Long story short, I am now running Amd drivers version 12.11.

Anyway good luck.

I got a new hard drive and installed windows 7 on it. My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 custom quad edition. I installed the AMD driver for it and updated and installed the catalyst controll manager. On the intel gpu its just that gpu running and the ati one is off, but when I switch to the high performance one(ati), both of the gpu's are on and the intel one is supposed to be off. i can see this by looking in the device manager --> display adapters. On my old hard drive just one would be on at a time never both like the high setting is now. This is a problem because when the high performance one is on there actually both on which makes it run like the power saver one which sucks.

Is there any notification that I could get when the card is being switched.

I can see that the switching is not allowed when IE 8 is running.
A message "Switching the graphics processor cannot occur until your current applications are closed" pops up. So I believe there is some notification.

Could someone tell me how to prevent switching between graphics cards while the application is running.

A:G510 "Switchable" Graphics

Hi bar_rodoy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You will need to refresh both of the graphics driver in order to make the switching working again,
First Uninstall the AMD driver and Software
Open Device Manager and look under Display Adapters
You should find your AMD/ATI Graphics there,
Right click on it and choose Uninstall, you will be prompted if you want to uninstall Driver software for this                            device,   (Make sure to place a check under it then hit OK). Restart the system if prompted.
Now check under Control Panel / Uninstall a Program and Uninstall any AMD ATI Graphics related entry there.
You will need to do the same procedure with the Intel Graphics.
Now with all Graphics adapter using generic drivers
Download and install Intel Driver first followed by the AMD / ATI
"Download depending to your Windows Type and Version"
   Windows 7
Intel Video Driver for 32-bit Windows    Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows
   Windows 8
Intel Video Driver for 32-bit Windows    Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows
   Windows 7
       AMD Video Driver
   Windows 8
AMD Video Driver for 64-bit Windows
After Installation of both Drivers
Check if the Graphics switching will work
Hope this helps

I was deciding to sell this laptop on CL Hence it is a great gaming laptop under Windows Then Windows Preview came out I said ok lets go back and try this again No luck Same results And then I was all doom and gloom once again RTM became avail on MSDN So I downloaded it and Installed it on my desktop impressed And So just yesterday I installed it in the HP laptop Clean install of course Well no conflicts and this is working Using the WDM Drivers provided by microsoft I think which is version So is it using the AMD driver with no cautions Does it show the Intel driver with no cautions and so forth Yes and Yes and Yes My only gripe is they dont in include the Catalyst Control Panel in the WDM version no more So I gotta find which one would be compatible with this I am open for suggestions So after I got this installed I decided to try the switchable graphics I know I dont have any red x's or caution I think it still using the AMD and doesnt switch over I need to run some tests on this and I will let you all know But the end result if you want a stable WDM driver that works Windows RTM is your answer I ran passmark tests and the preformance was not impacted if anything getting better scores with Windows RTM than Windows tbh TBH I dont care bout the switchable graphics part I do but i am not really mobile that much So having mine on the AMD is just fine Tho like I said i will test this out more i figure if i can get a hold of a CCC that will work with the WDM in from M I think it might actualy switch Maybe it did switch I was kinda tired but i gotta test So for all you who lost hope and are in the same boat as me No worries PG Edit one thing Also I wouild like to add too is I did goto the notebook review site and there is a link for the AMD for my modem I think that is the right version And I did install the catalyst which picked up everything Was massively scrambled under metro at first but after a reboot this was fixed But it didnt switch over since those drivers are not really the switchable and its the AMD straight driver But I well tell you this it did work But I did remove it because I got better benchmark results with the AMD than the driver that is up there intended for windows Also I would like to add that I think this can be solved As I mentioned I have a st generation Intel HD card with the AMD inside this laptop All the drivers I seen are for SG Second Generation and rd for Windows x So I would like to try and find a HP SP exe AMD Intel switchable graphics driver package for Wn x for the st geenration Intel HD with AMD I have a feeling this would work If anyone knows of any out there please let me know I dont mean a Win driver either but a true Windows Intel AMD st generation intel hd I am going to do some more research into this and perhaps there is one from Dell Sony Acer or Lenovo who might have a driver package I am looking for EDIT More info What's new for Windows Preview display drivers WDDM What's new for Windows Preview display drivers WDDM Windows Drivers Which means this is based off the version the WDDM is version So today when I go home I will test this and let you all know if I can get the CCC installed with this EDIT So I am thinking Ok install Pro RTM x Use the WDDM which Windows Updates picks up Which causes no conflicts or error cod... A:HP Switchable Graphics under Windows 8.1 Pro RTM !!!

Ok So here is my results....

Does brightness control work?
No. But it does work under intel when switched over to it. Which is normal.

Is there any error codes on the drivers?

Does the switchable graphics feature work?
Yes and No. If you do the automatic switching it will switch for you but trying to get it back into the other mode, you would have to force a hard reboot to get it back. However a temp work around is to switch to the intel gpu, manually which it will and to switch back plug in the charger and reboot.

So I wouldn't consider this fully work yet. However we are getting close.... No errors in the wdm drivers and the 13.10 drivers at all! This is good news previously would get error codes on the drivers in 8 and 8.1 preview.

Games do work just fine. As I said earlier big performance difference compared to 7. I think we might see a fix for the hybrid graphics in the future tho.

I did manage to install the Catalyst Control Panel from the 13.10 beta and all the nice video features and other features worked. App profiles, LCD Over Drive, Color Profiles, Gfx adjustments such as a AMD Optimization, and everything.

Even tho its not fully fixed I am quite happy that there is no caution, error code 48s on the intel or amd driver and games and everything else works jut fine.

Below is the information from the CCC v13.10

I didn't install the 13.10 drivers on my working profile I just used the M$ WDDM Driver 1.3 which is picked up by windows update now along with the CCC v13.10

I did run a second test on a bare install with 13.10 full package with no previous remains of amd before install and I didn't run any benchmark but the same info above however no option for switchable graphics like they claim in the beta.
But if you install the WDDM 1.3 from windows update and the CCC 13.10 you will see it.

The CCC has been taken out of the WDDM.

So this is good news for some of us hp legacy users (1st gen) with AMD video. At least its somewhat useable and error free in the device manager. For some of us that don't want to mess with leshcat. But I am sure it will come in handy. I wish hp would just release bios updates and support win8 in the older envy series but oh well this is fine.

Were you using a graphics driver from your PC manufacturer before? The base catalyst may not include this feature.
On most dual systems I've read about there was no way to choose, the system would just do it as needed.

Do you have any other higher end games installed? do you notice any performance loss now?

You can always poke around the PC manufacturer site and see if they have a graphics driver for ya.

A:Pinpoint Switchable Graphics Problem

Well it sounds like you have done all you can to resolve this, but the conflict between the device and the software is one of those, they never saw this happening, ones. Or they did and didn't bother with it, because it didn't happen often.

If there are two graphics cards on the device, have you tried disabling the one you don't want it to use? Not just in the program, but completely? Or is it a case of the one needs the other to work? Which is a serious design flaw in some laptops.

To be honest, were it me, I would return the device, siting the problems, and get one that will give you what you need, without the same flaws. If it was just purchased, the place it was gotten from should allow for an exchange to another device.

A:AMD Radeon HD/Intel switchable graphics

Marko91 HP laptops, especially the older Win7 machines, often came with two different graphics chips -- and Intel and then, either an AMD or Nvidia.  This was known as Switchable Graphics or Hybrid Graphics.  You ran using the Intel chip most of the time, but when you needed extra graphics power, like in Gaming, the PC automatically switched over to using the AMD or Nvidia graphics chip.Problem is, this requires special graphics drivers to work, and while those came preinstalled on the Win7 laptops, those drivers simply do not exist for Win10.  Those drivers are not available from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.  A way to tell if your PC has two different graphics chips is to look in Device Manager under Display Adapters.  If there are two different adapters listed, one Intel and one AMD/Nividia, then you have this problem -- and if you force an upgrade to Win10, you will have serious graphics problems and your machine will not work. Please follow these directions to find the detailed product number for your laptop:  Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HP® Customer Support With that information, I can see if there are HP Win10 vide drivers for your laptop. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hello, I've been having issues regarding switchable graphics. It wont use Radeon 6700m on the game named Blade and Soul. No matter what i do, which option i choose, it will still be using Intel hd 4000.
I know this because A) it wont even find/show the game on Switchable Graphics Application Monitor. B) My Radeon wont have any activity shown on AMD System Monitor.
I cant set Switchable Graphics to be static on BIOS because there is no option there. I dont think i had any problem with the card as it could even run Mortal Kombat X  and provide same fps as this game which is like 6 years old and with much lower system req.

A:Switchable Graphics not working properly.

Tanri Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about your display problem and wanted to help. You say you're running Win10 but according to the HP Support page for your PC, it did not come with Win10 preinstalled.  So, in that case, you must have done the Win10 Upgrade, right? The Win10 Upgrade tool does a poor job of detecting PCs with multiple graphics chipsets (like yours) and, as a result, is unable to install the proper drivers for those chipsets to work.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops. However, you could consider using HP Win8.1 drivers -- although there's no guarantee that those drivers will work.  Here's the link to the HP Product drivers and software page for Win8.1 for your PC: If that page does not show Win8.1 when you open it, then click CHANGE and select Windows 8.1 using the pulldowns. Also, since you're going to be installing AMD drivers, then run their clean utility BEFORE you attempt to reinstall the HP drivers:  AMD Clean Uninstall UtilityGood LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

Windows 8 Switchable Graphics Issue! and found this is a common problem so I followed some guides The biggest one suggested uninstalling all driver present which I think I did and installing the Leshcat driver This also did not solve the problem I think I did it properly the only part I might have messed up on is the uninstalling of the drivers as I had no way of knowing if they really were gone I even tried the newest Leshcat driver and that didn't work either So I'm at a complete loss as to what to do The system even did a system restore and brought it back to square one and then I did it again and no change Does anyone have any Idea how to fix this issue Or will I need to buy a install and just do that which I really don't want to do Thanks Will

So ive just brought a HP dv6 4023tx back to life and would like to use it as a school laptop. with the AMD graphics running constantly the battery isnt the best ive seen. im seeing if we would be able to change it to run off the intel hd 3000 that is built into the i7 2630qm. ive seen older laptops than this with switchable graphics and i have seen newer so im going off the assumption this has support for it (otherise why would the intel hd driver be on the HP website). Thank you for your time.

I installed my ATI catalyst manager, but for some reason the switchable graphics application is nowhere to be found. This is extremely frustrating, as it's limiting my battery life to a measly 2 hours (if I'm lucky) now.

Anyone know what I can do?

AMD Raedon HD 6770 is not working; it says the device cannot start.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, but no luck.

flcph2015 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the situation is that you should not have done the Win10 Upgrade.  Their Upgrade tool does a really poor job of detecting switchable graphics prior to the updrade, and as a result, folks like you end up with machines that are no longer fully functional.  Same thing happened to me. With switchable graphics, the only working drivers come from the OEMs that make the machines, because the hardware is customized, so to have to be the drivers.  MS does not supply these drivers, nor do the video card makers. So, without HP Win10 drivers for your PC, you're stuck with only two outcomes:1) Keep Win10 and struggle with the graphics problem2) Return your PC to the original OS. I chose the second because I prefer a PC with an older OS where everything worked, to a PC with a new OS, where some things do not work.

A:Drivers for Insipron 15R with Switchable graphics. WORKING ONES!!!! WHEN ARE THEY OUT!?!

Hi Alun18,
Inspiron 15R which with AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card supports dynamic switchable graphic function.
Under the dynamic mode, the user does not directly control which graphics device is active. There under graphics device is determined by application profile settings and the default rule.• Displays are always exposed to the OS through integrated graphics. This is the reason it will always show as Intel Graphics card is in use. It is designed that way.  All graphic intensive processes are done by the AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card and passed on to the application through the Intel HD Graphics.• Aero desktop always runs on integrated graphics.• 3D, OpenGL, and video-playback applications run on the fGPU/iGPU or dGPU depending on the application profile.• If an application does not have a profile, the application runs on the default rendering GPU.• The end-user can edit application profiles.

A:ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics (switchable)

Evgeniy64 That's probably NOT going to work because the ONLY drivers that will work on PCs with Switchable Graphics are those provided by the OEM -- in this case, HP.  If HP does not have Win10 drivers for your model PC, the Upgrade will be a disaster. If you can, please follow the directions in this link to find the detailed product number of your PC: that is not possible, then look for a sticker on the PC that includes the product number and post that here.  If the battery is removable, the sticker is likely to be in the battery compartment. With this information, I can check to see if there are HP Win10 drivers for your PC. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

A:Switchable graphics doesn't use my AMD Radeon HD 8670M

For dual mismatched GPU's like Intel/AMD I recommend using the laptop manufacturers drivers, over doing two separate driver installs. The laptop manufacturers driver is custom tailored for your dual switchable graphics. Which driver are you using now? I haven't had any issues in Windows 8.1 as far as my switchable graphics goes. Mine are AMD/AMD though so I can use a driver right from AMD's web site. I get all kinds of ccc has stopped working messages in Windows 10 though.

Welcome tho the forums.

Sometimes this issue comes up because the game is not detected by the graphics (not added on a profile list). Try to install the AMD application profiles, it will add some support even without Catalyst setup:
AMD Catalyst

Make sure the graphic drivers are up to date and the profiles installed. In case it all fails, try running with the selected card manually:
Right click on the game's exe/shortcut and choose: "Run with graphics processor" then select the radeon.

A:Can anyone provide me the link of latest switchable graphics...

Sauravrstha Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop.  HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP does not have any schedule indicating when, or IF, they will be producing drivers for the older machines. This means that your PC is most likely NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers is needs for full functionality simply do not exist!  To restore full functionality, you would need to do a factory reset using HP Recovery Media to its original pre-installed OS. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution" -- to help others find the solution.========================================================================

Your PC is a desktop, not a notebook. Desktop PCs do not have switchable graphics. That is a high-end notebook feature. The Omen 15 has it. When a video card is installed, the Intel HD graphics is disabled and the video you have is proviided by the video card only. Which specific games did you try to run? There is a website called Can I run it? that willl give you a report on the hardware in your PC and specific games If your PC won't run specific games it could be because of the entry level graphics and Intel CPU that is installed in the motherboard. Your desktop PC is not meant for gaming. It is an entry level productivity desktop PC.

Hey guys. I recently bought an Acer Travelmate 5740. I didn't realise how bad the 4500MHD graphics were and I have heard about external graphics cards and 'switchable graphics'.

I did a few googles but obviously I am searching the wrong stuff. I have a chipset that allows switchable graphics, so is there a way of upgrading my graphics to something better? I don't mind spending a bit of money to get a lot more bang for my buck and I have heard ATI has external graphics that sync with internal ones or something.

Would I be able to upgrade this card (or remove it for a better one) could I pay a professional to do that for me, and where would I buy the new GPU?

Thanks for helping.

A:Intel 4500MHD Switchable graphics/external card?

Welcome to SevenForums.

I have heard about external graphics cards and 'switchable graphics'.

Here is an article on basically what "switchable" Graphics in Laptops is all about. Nvidia automates switchable mobile graphics with Optimus - TechSpot News

I realize this is about Nvidia but it also should apply with any combination of GPU's.

I have a chipset that allows switchable graphics, so is there a way of upgrading my graphics to something better?

No not really since the GPU chips are soldered into your motherboard. So even if you could find someone capable of removing the 4500MHD chip he would also need to find and purchase a higher quality GPU chip that most likely wouldn't be able to simply be re-soldered into the old chips socket, then their could be all kinds of compatibility issues I would think.
Basically your stuck with what you have.

I have only been able to find this setup that allows for the use of a full size PCI-e graphics card.

The only video I could find on how it is setup

This is really not a solution for your issue since this requires a laptop with a PCMCIA port, the MagmaBox1, additional LCD and a full size better graphic's card.

Also below this thread you'll see other threads on your graphics chip and also switchable graphics information.
Hope this helps answer some of your questions and I haven't made it to confusing as you can see I have edited this post(several times) trying to provide the best information available . Fabe

Hi, my laptop is overheating and wasting power because it is always running my ATI Radeon mobility graphics card. I have switchable graphics, and I want the computer to ALWAYS start up using Intel HD graphics.

I cannot find ANY settings to make Intel HD the default graphics card.

I have tried uninstalling ATI radeon graphics card. It always reinstalls AND SWITCHES to it on startup.

How can I make Intel HD the primary graphics card(PREFERRED), or completely remove ATI radeon so it never reinstalls the drivers after I have uninstalled it?

A:Disable ATI radeon switchable graphics or use Intel HD by default

There would be an option in your BIOS to disable/enable onboard graphic chip. Also look for something along the lines 'Init Display first' (though these differ bios to bios) and select 'Onboard' or similar equivalent option.

You can also disable your radeon card through Device manager. Open Start menu, type 'Device Manager' and select it from the list displayed. Look for the card>right click>disable.

If unsure, post a screenshot and we'll work you out through the steps.

When i right click on the desktop,i see "Graphics Properties" and "Configure Switchable Graphics" options. However on clicking the latter i get a window showing this :

I should be getting a list of programs like this :

Also under Video->Color settings,i used to use the AMD Theater preset which made the videos on my laptop more colourful but now choosing any preset does not do anything i.e. there is no change in the video. Why is that and how do i fix that?

A:Switchable Graphics Don't Work In Catalyst Control Centre?

When you have a laptop that has Switchable Graphics, you should be going to the laptop vendor to get the video drivers, not to AMD. The drivers at AMD are not designed to support switchable graphics (AFAIK) and instead, are for the more general video cards.

Hey all. I recently updated my Inspiron 15 7547 to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and ever since, my display drivers haven't been working properly. I boot up the laptop and it starts fine, then after about a minute or two, the screen goes black for about 30 seconds, you hear the sound of a device disconnecting from the laptop and then a blue screen appears for a few minutes with the mouse pointer visible. after a few minutes the computer logs out and the log in screen appears. When I log back in, screen resolution is larger and a message pops up and says AMD drivers are not installed. Does anyone else have this problem and has a fix for it? Dell seems to be lagging on driver updates and this is driving me nuts.

Hi, I have a DELL Inspiron 5520 with 2 Graphics Cards:

ATI Radeon 7670M & Intel HD 4000

I've installed the drivers required and unfortunately the switchable graphics section in "Catalyst Control Manager" doesn't have an option to manually change the graphics card. It has the option to choose what graphics card a program should use, but that never works. I know that if I find a modded BIOS like in this thread:

Acer Laptop: Switchable Graphics using i7 & AMD Radeon

Then it will work for me, but my problem is that I don't know if that BIOS is specifically for ACER laptops or I can use it on my DELL. If not, I'd appreciate it if someone came up with a BIOS for DELL. Also, I'd like to know what that BIOS has that the original one didn't, please explain. For example, removing whitelist, etc ...

Hi, How is "Switchable graphics" supported on HP laptops? Is it via a BIOS setting, or is it through the Catalyst drivers? Even when this is through Catalyst drivers, is there a way to permanently disable the built-in Intel HD graphics and only use the ATI Radeon HD5430/5450/5470 graphics card? I'm a bit concerned with Switchable Graphics through the driver, as it requires a custom-built HP driver, eg. I cannot use drivers provided by ATI, which is a bit scary. Thanks,Fred

With the AMD 7730m on the Dell Inspiron 15r 7520, If I had known their would be compatibility issues with application being locked, I would have never bought this Laptop. Yes, it is an old laptop by now, as it was manufactured in 2012, but It is keeping me from ever buying a Dell Laptop with AMD graphics of any sort in it. Like Lenovo with the super-fish issue, it is on my <profane> list to never buy. I'm guessing that it is AMD's fault for bad support or it could be as much Dell's fault because the hardware is in their laptops.

2 gB of RAM isn't sufficient to take advantage of the capabilities of this system. I'd suggest a minimum of 4 gB with 8 gB being optimum (IMO)

You have both Norton/Symantec and ESET installed. Please do the following:

Anti-Virus Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the Norton from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of Norton using this free tool:
- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus, then check to ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
NOTE: NEVER run more than 1 anti-virus, firewall, Internet Security/Security Center application at the same time.

Many of the sort of errors are caused by missing Windows Updates (to include Service Pack 1). Please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates

6 memory dumps
4 different BSOD error codes
5 different causes blamed
This is most likely a hardware problem, but can also be caused by compatibility issues, low-level drivers, or malware.

Although I don't expect it to reveal anything, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions (in the hope that it might reveal something):

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is st... Read more

Unfortunately, at this moment the R series doesn't offer a switchable graphics option between the integrated graphics chipset (Intel HD Graphics 3000) and the dedicated ATI 6450M.

Myself I have a R850-10V model with an i5-2410M and there is no option in BIOS for such a selection, which would help a lot to increase the battery life by using only the integrated graphics for example.
Could we see in the future a bios upgrade which would enable this integrated graphics?

It's a shame because all the other important producers (HP, Lenovo, Acer) which use ATI 6450/6470/6490M solution for integrated graphics, updated their bios in order to allow a switchable graphics option.

Thank you.

Hi just got my new laptop yesterday , DV6t-7000, and before posting my problem I've search everywhere include these forums for a solution.  I've all ready updated the bios, and updated the 650m with the newest drivers from HP's website.  I know that in the bios under "system configuration" there should be an option to change from "dynamic" to "fixed" graphics, but that option isn't there.  Was looking forward to using this laptop for gaming, but was thinking that since I'm still within my 21 days that I should just return the laptop and maybe wait until they fix this issue.

My HP laptop has two graphic cards, and both of them are listed at the device manager:

Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000
Radeon (TM) HD 8670M
HP supplied a Windows 8.1 driver which, in theory, would allow to switch the graphic cards (with the famous Catalyst). In practice, however, the Intel card was used most times, even for games.

After upgrading to Windows 10, the Catalyst is gone, and HP does not supply a Windows 10 driver for my computer. My laptop is using the Intel Graphic all the time, so, when purchasing my laptop, I payed 100 additional euros for nothing!

Is there a way to switch to the AMD card, even if I have to do it manually every time? If not, is there at least a way to use the AMD card all the time (instead of the Intel card)?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi alleluia and welcome to Tenforums.

You may be able to just disable the Intel HD Graphics 4000 in the BIOS of your system. Then the Radeon 8670M would be used all the time.

A:Precision M4800 : Input lag at log in, Switchable graphics not functioning, GPU fan "chirping" when it starts up.

My personal experience was a long and trying one.  First they sent a tech to replace the graphics card with another Firepro.  Did not make a difference.  Then they had tech replace motherboard.  No difference.  So I insisted on a new m4800 with the nVidia processor.  That's how I got mine.  BUT, I would think if you pushed, maybe they could send a tech to switch out your graphics card.  Or at least send you a different model (for which you will obviously need a different driver) and then you could install or take to a repair tech.
For what it's worth, Dell knows they have an issue with this hardware configuration and I was told they had elevated the issue to their senior engineers.
