I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Initial inspection shows it to possibly be a conflict between an AVG filter driver and a Peerblock filter driver. Check for updates on both of them, as I'm seeing them (especially Peerblock) being pretty dated. Note that you may even need to remove one of them, as by design they both operate on the same principle and will clash against each other when handling the same resources.

Hi all I hope someone can figure out the issue with my machine Here is the setup Dell XPS m Current OS Windows Ultimate x Downloaded from MSDN via subscription Original OS Windows Vista Home x Here is the issue I upgraded my laptop to W with a clean - Windows Dell - x64 Ultimate BSODs 7 m1530 XPS install and downloaded most BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 drivers from Dell the vista bit drivers Additionally i installed an upgraded video card driver from nVidia Upgraded the BIOS and installed some Dell specific applications Everything seemed to work fine for a while I am not sure how long - A few months maybe and then I started getting really random BSOD's It didn't matter what I was doing on the machine I also seemed to get every kind of error imaginable During that time and increasingly more BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 frequently I started hearing a sort of clicking sound or maybe more pinging - it's hard to describe The crashes sometimes coincided with me hearing this noise but not all the time Eventually my PC would not boot at all and I called Dell who said it was a motherboard problem I am still under warranty so they BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 came out and changed it A few days after I started getting crashes again About a month ago getting fed up I reinstalled Windows again and updated the essential drivers instead of all of them like I did before From Dell I installed the sound bluetooth and touchpad drivers installed the quickset application so the media keys would work and installed the graphics card driver from nVidia Everything else seems to work fine except that there are two devices in device manager that do not have drivers installed They are labelled Base System Device and Unknown Device I still get BSODs but it seems not as frequently I have attached the BSOD info since the last install Hope I've given enough info to help solve the issue Please let me know if more info is required Thanks

These are all STOP 0x124 errors. As such, it's the CPU telling Windows what the error is - and that just doesn't provide any significant information for us to work with. The errors are usually either a hardware problem or a compatibility issue.

Also, The Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following:
- activate/validate the Windows installation at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( http://support.microsoft.com/ph/14019 )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

I'd suggest uninstalling all traces of Nero 7 - it's not compatible with Win7 according to this site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...ero%207&page=3

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers. Please pay particular attention to any dated 2007 or earlier:

Hello,

I'm getting random unexpected restarts and BSODs on the Dell Studio Laptop I just bought on 4/13/2010. It's had issues for months.

The OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit full version, the system is 8 months old and so is the OS installation, the system is all stock, it's service tag is: 61N64K1.

I've analyzed the event viewer and dump files and haven't found anything conclusive.

Esspecially has issues coming out of sleep and when plugged into a Kensington Univeral USB docking station with 2 monitors, random freezes and restarts.

If you could assist or point me to any training resouces for troubleshooting at this level, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ivan

Hello,

The dumps don't indicate any sure cause. We can only make guesses at this point.

I see you have an old version of McAfee installed:
Code:
mfeavfk.sys Thu Dec 17 17:53:17 2009 (4B2AB65D)
mfehidk.sys Thu Dec 17 17:52:07 2009 (4B2AB617)
mfetdik.sys Thu Dec 17 17:52:14 2009 (4B2AB61E)
Update that to the latest version, as older versions of anti-virus programs have been notorious for causing BSODs.

If that doesn't do the trick, could you enable driver verifier? Hopefully that will flag any drivers causing this.

Hi everyone

In need of help. Started up my laptop and I am greeted by a blank screen, though the machine goes through the motions of starting up. When connected to an external monitor all works fine, and I have tried changing the inverter, but no luck.

Ran a diagnostic check, and receive the following:

Error Code 0321
Msg: Error Code 2000-0321
Msg: LCD EDID - Unable to access EDID EEPROM

Would anyone be able to restore my sanity, and offer some words of wisdom/guidance?

Would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Most likely possible. I installed Win10 on a Dell Studio 17/1747 a couple of days ago that had Win7. Have also installed it on 2 Dell Inspiron 15 Notebooks, just finished one. One thing to watch for is perhaps the need for updated/Win10 compatible drivers for Wireless Network and, if you have it, Bluetooth Wireless [both of my 15s needed it] but check support.dell.com with your Service Tag to be sure.

Hello everyone,

I've had an ongoing issue of BSODs. These occurred more frequently towards the end of last year, and for some odd reason it decided to stop BSODing around January period of this year, but occasionally it will BSOD every now and then. A bit earlier today my PC decided to blue screen, and the error code that popped up was something along the lines of 0x0000001E. Previous BSOD's displayed something like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEMPTION.

I downloaded windows kits (WinDbg) earlier today and opened my memory dump. The bugcheck analysis said that the issue was probably caused by ntkrnlmp.exe. I've tried googling solutions to no avail - it seems that for this error every case has a unique solution to each individual.

Attached are the minidumps

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Basically This computer has always been very stable but now it seems to BSOD completely at random and I'm at a complete loss as at started random; BSODs recent updates driver completely after to why The time after which these problems started was when I went through and updated a host of drivers and the BIOS BSODs completely at random; started after recent driver updates all of which having been neglected were hideously out of date I had also just installed a new Asus Xonar sound card Initially I thought it was going to be the new sound card so I ripped that out and uninstalled it's drivers Problem didn't go away Tried switching off some of the integrated hardware the BIOS had turned on when it got updated serial port extra sata controller etc and again uninstalling the drivers for those No luck Had a look at the crash dumps in WinDbg which weren't terribly helpful as they always pointed to quot ntkrnlmp exe quot which as I understand it is the very core of the Windows Kernel and faulting process seems to be equally as random as the time it happens - over the five times it's happened it's been steam msn skyrim and quot System quot twice I tried reinstalling windows a-fresh on my nice new SSD install clean copies of all the latest drivers directly from the Motherboard manufacturer's website and AMD in the case of the graphics Low and behold It still BSODs All I can conclude is that ONE of these drivers is faulty somehow or possibly the BIOS I havn't tried downgrading that but I can't work out for the life of me which one and the few I've tried uninstalling have made no difference My only inkling is that it seems to happen most frequently when there is a disk access like saving a game or me moving some files around so maybe it's to do with that Conclusion Please help

A:BSODs completely at random; started after recent driver updates

Is it possible to get some help on this? I'm literally at my wits end...

I tried another fresh install, and this time I didn't download any drivers, used only the ones that came on the discs, so very out of date, but also "known" good drivers. STILL got the BSOD (I can get a dump for that one too, if you want it), though this time the problematic process was dxgmms1.sys. Every single time it's always an error 38 "BUGCHECK". After this latest crash, I think it corrupted something else and I can't get in except in safe mode. If I try to boot normally, it gets to the desktop and 2 seconds later insta-hangs. No BSOD, no errors, it just... stops. I tried reinstalling all the drivers from Safemode, no effect; tried disabling startup processes, and it just made it hang during the windows logo bit of the boot phase before you reach windows login; tried system repair and system restore, no effect.

If it is, as I am starting to now suspect, a hardware problem more than a software one, then I need to know what's causing it. Don't want to waste money replacing things unneccessarily. If it is a driver problem then, again, I need to know which one because all of my own attempts thus far have failed to come up with anything concrete.

I am literally " " close to throwing the whole thing out the window.

Hello, i have been having a lot of trouble with my computer and its getting really frustrating. I get constant crashes playing games (WoW, LoL, Counter Strike, many others), my Google Chrome also crashes often, as well as Shockwave Flash crashing when watching you tube videos that that kind of thing. Mostly only games crash but Skype crashes occasionally as well. My computer will randomly crash and restart or crash and get BSOD for absolutely no reason. For example i can be doing nothing at all, no programs running whatsoever and i will get a blue screen. i would really appreciate help as this has been a problem for me for awhile and its just getting worse. Thanks

Hi,

I recently ran into some computer trouble on my laptop and was hoping to receive some input as to what the problem may be. For about one day now, my laptop, which is a Dell XPS M1530, has been cutting off on random intervals (sometimes on the order of minutes to as much as an hour), and I cannot seem to figure out why. What we know is this:

-The fan is still fully functional
-The computer is not overheating
-No viruses detected after doing a scan (we thought that viruses may be a possibility)
-The power supply is functional
-The motherboard is obviously not damaged, as the computer can still work

I would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thanks,

~Trav.~

So I've had these problems for a while now, about 4 months ago starting when I changed my mobo, ram, and cpu. At the time I thought it was my hd as it was rounding it's 4 years. Being the broke student I am, I just now bought 2 new hds, a SSD and HDD. my small SDD holds windows and drivers, everything else on my hdd.

I've clean installed multiple times, and have tried everything in other threads and just can't figure it out now after a week.

Currently it is BSODing when trying to install windows updates, but had them happening when it's been idling or browsing.

Here are my dump files.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you tried installing Windows on the HDD and checked if it causes BSOD's?

Is the firmware for your SSD up-to-date?

Check for one and see if the stability returns.

This is for information purposes only. The drivers in red should be updated. If updating does not help, remove them.

Greetings gentlemen Allow me to explain to thee my current dilemma As the title suggests the most common of Bsod's my PC is suffering are bccode a's and a's I have done my research into these stop errors and have learned a fair bit I must say As for when these crashes happen Well a's happen most frequent when my pc 0x0a BSODs. Frustrating and to & 0x1a Frequent Fix is idling or I'm casually browsing the web A few times it's happened when I'm in a game like Skyrim for 0x0a & 0x1a BSODs. Frequent and Frustrating to Fix example but very rarely has it done so in other games Although most of the time the occurrence of a's happen at random times I have at least attempted to try and resolve the problematic software hardware driver s causing the a's but I'm having little to no success at all in finding the troublesome driver As for a's Yes I'm aware that this code is generally related to faulty corrupt memory and I have looked around for solutions Swapping the sticks being a said solution However I must express my discomfort and unease when it comes to opening up and actually taking out removing or just touching pc components The PC that's suffering these issues was built earlier in the year by a family friend I've only had it for approximately four months now I will list it's specifications down below to provide further useful information OS Windows Ultimate x Motherboard SABERTOOTH FX Processor AMD FX Speed Ghz RAM GB GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX And of course there's the file attachment containing my crash dumps Also Apologies in advance if the information I've provided doesn't suffice I'm not used to these kind of situations

Alright I have been having perpetual BSODs for over a year now. It turns out that there were several different issues. One was Avast! Antivirus, and the other was out of date BIOS for my motherboard.

However, one issue remains, and that is constant BSODs while trying to download anything. I can watch videos just fine, or browse the internet, but as soon as I try to download something in Steam or Firefox (for example) I will BSOD within 1 minute. It will occasionally happen when I'm just browsing the internet, but not nearly as often.

The issue is present on both WiFi and Ethernet. I am not overclocking, and as far as I know all my drivers are up to date. Dump files should be attached to this post.

I really appreciate any help I can get, this issue has been bothering me for a very long time.

A:[SOLVED] Recent BSODs

First up, I'm not good with XP BSOD's, not familiar enough with them to pick out things that may be obvious to someone with greater experience.

The most recent dump is a 0xC5 (usually a driver or sometimes memory), this one has Symantec/Norton getting a little mention; as their products are a frequent cause of problems, you really must uninstall it for the testing period. Use the tool https://www-secure.symantec.com/nort...=1&pvid=f-home after a reboot.

I'm unsure as to what the best alternative might be for XP, I use Avast! avast! Free Antivirus | Download Antivirus Protection Software and PrivateFirewall (free versions) on my XP machines.

Hi Gav,

The first thing we should do is check that you haven't been sold a counterfeit Windows 7 installation - these are known to be one cause of BSOD's. Please do the following:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click 'Copy' - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the validation tool here in your next reply

I'm assuming this might be a Dell OEM installation. Also check to see whether there is a COA sticker attached to the computer. It will look similar to this:

Attachment 253951

If there is one attached, please quote the Windows 7 version (Professional, Ultimate etc.) but do NOT quote any of the numbers.

Regards,
Golden

Hello All,

My XPS 13 9350 has been BSODing again after a few months of relative stability.

I've ran memtest86, 20 runs without errors, chkdsk, sfc/scannow, and DISM scanhealth all returning without errors or integrity violations. I've also used Whocrashed to analyze the dump files, but it cannot tell me which drivers are bad or have gone wrong. The only common factor is that the errors are consistently associated to ntoskrnl.sys and ndis.sys (also ntkrnlmp sometime before).

Also to note, the most recent dump was a driver verifier BSOD if that helps.

I have attached the dump files to the thread, and would appreciate your assistance again.

"It will not log into Normal mode, it requires safe mode every-time and it works fine there"...
This tells us that a Windows driver is a fault. Can you perform a system or factory restore of the laptop?

A:Help with Dell XPS M1530

Hello, Welcome to TSF.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Please download and run the programs in the order listed below.

Download TDSSKiller.zip

>>> Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application.Click on the Start Scan button and wait for the scan and disinfection process to be over.
If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue

If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue

If you are asked to reboot the computer to complete the process, click on the Reboot Now button. A report will be automatically saved at the root of the System drive ((usually C:\) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt" (for example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.2.0_20.12.2009_15.31.43_log.txt). Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
If no reboot is required, click on Report. A log file will appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

Download ComboFix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this web page: A guide and tutorial on using ComboFix

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

IMPORTANT....

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Do not install any other programs until this if fixed.

How to : Disable Anti-virus and Firewall...
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouse click ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

==

Due to recent changes in AVG and how it interacts with ComboFix, AVG must be uninstalled to run ComboFix. You will get a message from CF stating such.

If AVG will not uninstall, it is first recommended to uninstall it with this AppRemover by Opswat. The AVG uninstaller can be downloaded from here > AppRemover.exe Go to their homepage and you will see they have support for removal of other AV's as well AVG appremover tool.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Submit the logs and let me know what problem persists.

Has anyone who has a Dell XPS M1530 (laptop) installed the 64 bit version of Vista? If so, which drivers do you need?

My graphics card is nVidia geforce 8600m gt

I definitely know that a driver is required for this graphics card, but I'm not entirely sure where to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has any other driver information with regards to the XPS M1530 then please make it known.

Try nVidia's site?

Happy New Year!

OK, I have a 2-3 year old Dell XPS M1530 laptop, which is crashing.

It was running Vista Home Premium 32-bit OEM originally, but I upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Retail some time ago with no problems.

Since then I had problems with the internal Intel WiFi 4965AGN disconnecting and dropping packets, so having tried upgrading the driver, I replaced it with an Intel WiFi 5300. So I suspect the 5300 is the likely problem.

Let me know what you find, and thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I was just wondering, if anyone knew about a newer firmware or driver software that I could find for the Optical Drive of my Dell XPS M1530.

The problem is that I'm testing Windows 7 SP1 (V 1.53, btw). Yeah... Yeah... I know... Since is not an official release I can't hope for it to work or have them available, etc... etc...

But, I felt a considerable speed up in my system, and almost all bugs and slowdowns that my Win 7 64 bit had, were resolved, or were not presented.

I really need a driver that can actually support it, if exists, if not, well... got to wait for the main release... ()

This is the optical device:

Try a vista driver in compatibility mode. That's all I can think of.

Hi,

I am experiencing random BSOD's on my Dell XPS M1530 (T8300,4GB,8600M GT 256MB DDR3). The freezes happen while gaming or doing normal stuff (surfing the web, listening music etc.) I tried to verify what the problem is but couldn't identify the cause. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Professional which was freshly installed a week ago. I installed all up-to-date drivers that could be found on the net. The freezes occured even earlier, before the fresh install. I attach the dump from the BSOD which occured today. I hope you can help me find what the problem is.

This one is pretty straight foward, it is due to your intel wifi driver. I would download and install fresh copy of it

Hey,
Had a Dell XPS M1530 since around February last year and was working fine up till now. Left my computer in sleep mode last night (which i do fairly often) but when i got home today and tried to turn it on (by pressing the power button) the button only flashed on for about 3 seconds and there was no other response although i could hear hard drive whirring away.
After trying another 2 times I restarted computer (by holding in power button) and then tried to turn on. However i keep getting the same result of the blue flashing on for three seconds then turning back off.
Have tried taking out the battery out and putting back in and starting the computer with only power cord but same result every time.
My warranty with Dell has run out so i can't just send back. Any ideas?

A:Dell XPS M1530 won't boot

As an update I tried reseating RAM and trying with only 2GB stick then with only 1GB stick but no improvement.
Found on Dell support holding 'fn' and power button runs a quick diagnostic with flashy LED's as codes. Got the first one flashing and the others solid which according to website means :

"The Microcontroller is handing control of the system to the processor. This code will persist if there is no processor detected"

Which i believe i'm correct in assuming means either my CPU or my motherboard is stuffed? In which case about my only option is finding the cheapest person to repair/replace it...?

I have an older XPS M1530 that came with Vista. I got Windows 7 in it now. Can not play any CD's. The controls are not working either, so I have to go in the "computer" to eject the cd. When I insert the cd. I can hear that something is trying to work. But after 30 sec or so It stops and ask me to insert CD. I can push play on my remote control and it tries to play, but I get the same message. On my DVD Drive E property it says :File system unknown, Free or Used space: 0 Bytes. Capacity: 0 Bytes .                          Any suggestion ??????

I have a Dell XPS M1530. When it is plugged in, it seems to get kind of hot. The fans are still running, I can feel the air coming out and I can hear the fans running. I blew out the vent anyway. The real pain in the butt is that it will just shut off sometimes. I have not noticed the issue when it is not plugged in. It gives me no warning just POW! .... it's off. When I turn it back on it gives no indication of a bad shut down or anything. Sometimes it says that status monitor 3 has stopped working but, only sometimes. Any ideas?

A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.

Arg2: fffffa8005c781c0, Address of the chk build Remove Lock structure used internally by Verifier.
Arg3: fffffa80061aa050, Address of the Remove Lock structure specified by the driver.
A Remove Lock cannot be re-initialized, even after calling
IoReleaseRemoveLockAndWait, because other threads might still be
using that lock (by calling IoAcquireRemoveLock). The driver should
allocate the Remove Lock inside its device extension, and initialize
it a single time. The lock will be deleted together with the device
extension.

A:Dell xps m1530 NVIDIA GPU

It is true that nVidia has always claimed that only some of the chips were defective.  Other sources claim they're all defective and that nVidia never redesigned the chip as would be required to fix the problem.
With a system that is 4+ years old it's likely impossible to differentiate a failure due to the design flaws in this chip from normal age-induced mortality.

I have an XPS M1530. It was displaying the message about battery can continue to charge but is reaching the end of its usable life - for about a year. I never operate the laptop without the AC adapter. I went to turn it on and it turned on and then immediately shut off. Then the AC light turned off. Now if I unplug the AC adapter from the computer, unplug the AC adapter from the wall and plug it back in the light will come on. Then as soon as I plug the AC adapter into the laptop the light goes off. Laptop does nothing/completely dead. I have 2 Dell AC adapters and both behave the same. I have tried it with and without the battery and same issue. Do you think a new battery will fix it? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I have totally disassembled this laptop, replaced the entire LCD, and the power inverter, still all I get when it boots is a black screen, sometimes it kind of gets darker and you can see the black image split in the middle? Although I can hit FN and LCD to an external monitor and that works fine?

Im not sure what to replace next? Could it be the LCD cable or is it most likely a bad mobo?

Are the video channels separate, the LCD from the external monitor port?

Any help would be great, as this is driving me crazy!

A:Dell XPS m1530 problems

This could be one of several problems, but assuming you can't get to your Vista desktop anymore, (is that right?) when you power on the pc, tap away at the F8 key, quickly, and straight after pressing power button.
Do you see a blackscreen with white text? If yes, scroll down with cursor key to the line 'Use last known good configuration' and press 'enter'.
But without knowing any more, your problem could be, a faulty RAM board, (5 minutes to swap in a new one, and not expensive), or a failing Hard drive, not good, or other main circuit board problem. It's not so likely to be the battery though, but try the F8 key (Safe mode) idea first.

These crashes were caused by your network, and wifi drivers. I would reinsatll a fresh copy and run a system file check
to do that type cmd in search?right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (not the space between the sfc and "/")

A:Flash bios for Dell XPS m1530

You can't flash the BIOS on a machine that won't post, and that's unlikely to be the source of your problem anyway.
You seem to be saying it won't boot from a CD/DVD.
You could try re-seating the hard drive, but this isn't looking good.
Have there been other, previous problems? Have you ever dropped or kicked this machine? Have you tried booting with the battery removed?

A:Graphic adapter for Dell XPS M1530?

You cant replace graphics cards for laptops. But I may have a solution. I would have first thought that this was a screen issue, but when you hooked it up to another monitor that idea was gone. Hi I ve got a XPS M Vista Dell crash up on booting M1530 XPS SP and I have recently experienced some problems This morning the screen would remain black while the laptop made the usual start up sounds and then did nothing The power button remained lit After some googling I had found a solution heating the gpu I found the info in a thread on this forum So I opened up my laptop but I was not able to remove the heat sink a screw that just wouldn t open so I Dell XPS M1530 crash on booting up determined through pictures where the gpu was and heated the area of the heat sink under which the gpu lies with a hair dryer I did this till the area above the gpu was too hot to touch Afterwards I started my laptop up and I didn t have the black screen it just booted up as usual However before I got past the dell screen it crashed I assumed it was overheating but after waiting some time I booted up again and got past the dell screen and had a boot up screen asking me to do a diagnostic and recovery thingie because there might be a software or hardware failure It proceeded to do this but after some time during the test it crashed again After booting it immediately back up it crashed before I got past the Dell screen After waiting a long time I tried again and this time it got further through the diagnostic test but eventually crashed again Now when I try the load bar on the dell screen goes extremely slowly and the laptop crashes before it gets past that stage it crashes slowly if I didn t try to start it before rapidly if I just experienced a crash Sorry for the long post but does anybody have an idea what I can do about this nbsp

Where did you get the advise to do this You should have come here first for some honest advise.

Heat is not a good thing for any electronic device. What you have done may have finished off a processor that was already half baked. I doubt if there is a way to recover from this other than replacing the GPU.

When you quote the GPU are you sure you are not confusing this with CPU. As far as I can see from your sytems manual, on the Dell site, the gahics card has no heat sink so you probably cooked your CPU. The heat sink is there for just one reason, to get rid of heat.

Hi,
I just got a motherboard replacement for my DELL XPS M1530 (not replaced from DELL) after the previous graphics card was cooked.
It had been three years since the machine was working fine when I started giving some problems and I had to get the motherboard replaced.
The garphics are fine now but sometimes it reaches 100% CPU Usage point and the fan starts running more than often.
During this period I noticed, I am usually not performing any intensive tasks( normal tasks such as browser etc.)
What could be the reason for the high CPU usage?

A:High CPU Usage (DELL XPS M1530)

One way to find out is to open the task manager, click on the process tab and look down the list to see which processes are using the cpu power. Then google that process,it is of course possible that what you find is a windows process using the cpu. Antivirus programs and firewalls can cause this to happen. You often have to use a process of elimination to find the cause.

I'm working with a Dell Xps M1530 that I was told had a black screen issue. I have booted and find the screen comes up normal except at the bottom. Along the bottom, the screen shows rays of light extending upward. As you can tell the system is Win 7 Prof. I am wondering if replacing the inverter should take care of this or would the screen be necessary to correct the problem? I believe the inverter is failing when it gets hot, causing the black screen issue and the light ray appearance may be related to it as well but I don't want to replace the one item and need two. I also don't want money to be spent if it isn't needed.
I tried to attach a photo but at 1.87mb, it is too large.

I have a Dell M1530 running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My touchpad \ mouse has stopped working. The pointer just sits in the middle of the screen. I even tried to use a USB mouse, that didn't work either. I got the newest driver for it from Dell, installed it & still nothing. I can barely navigate around on it! Please help me! I just want my mouse \ touchpad to work again! I don't want to have to do a complete reinstall, I'm not that smart & would probably mess it up.

The problem if both are not working sound like a windows issue. With the USB mouse plugged in does it show up the Device Manager? It should show up and load drivers that are provided by Windows. Have you tested the USB ports to see if anything else plugged into them is working?Have You tried System Restore to go back in Time to when the Mouse / Touchpad worked? System Restore should be accessed by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Our Tutorial on using it is hereWindows Vista System Restore GuideIntroduction to System RestoreSystem Restore is a system recovery feature of Windows that creates snapshots, or restore points, of the state of your computer at various intervals or before you perform a certain task. These restore points can then be used to restore your computer back to the state it was in when they were taken. When these restore points are created, and restored, the only files affected are the Windows Registry, programs, and system files. Your data such as spreadsheets, documents, images, and music remain untouched between restores. You may be wondering why you would want to restore your computer to a previous point. The reason being that there comes a time in every computer user's life that they install a new program, install a new driver, or just turn on the computer and find it no longer works as it did the day before. You have no idea why, can't resolve the problems, and are left with two options. You can either backup your data, reinstall the operating system, and then reinstall all your applications or you can restore your computer to a previous snapshot in the hopes that the problems will now be gone. By using System Restore to restore your computer to a previously known working state you can save considerable time or money compared to reinstalling the entire computer.Good LuckRoger

Hello,

for a while now I have been experiencing some seemingly random BSODs. At first it only happened during gaming or watching videos but now it can happen anytime. It may also be worth noting that sometimes videos crash and/or the sound doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling the audio and video drivers but it didn't help.
Attached you can find my BSOD information.

Thanks for the help,
Sanne G.

Ever since I bought it 4 months ago, I get random BSODs.
I'm attaching the Echo.zip file as instructed.

Thanks for any help on this!

So I reinstalled Windows like a month ago due to issues. Everything has been fine, however a few weeks ago, I started to get BSOD's while using the computer! It would just happen at random. However now, it bluescreens after logging back in from being in sleep mode. It did it twice yesterday, and the BSOD errors were different! I just want to know what is causing this to happen, and how to possibly fix it! Also here are some pictures of some of the BSOD's I've gotten in the past few weeks, and one of them was actually a dim yellow screen! I also have the files you need! Thanks for the help in advance!

I have been getting BSOD since I update my OS to Windows 7

Following is my laptop configuration :

Dell XPS M1330 Intel? Core? 2 Duo T6400 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
Memory 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
Video Card 128MB NVIDIA? GeForce? 8400M GS
Hard Drives 500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
System type : 32-bit Operating System
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

When I bought this laptop in 2009 it came with
OPERATING SYSTEM(S) Genuine Windows Vista? Home Premium Edition SP1

Dell does not provide support for this laptop for windows 7. But i installed it and it works as a charm, but with a problem of BSOD. I have being ignoring this problem since i installed but it is getting on my nerves now. Also, laptop heats up fast.

I have attached the BSOD dump starting from Jan till date.

Any help in figuring out whats going on wrong will be appreciated.

Hi,

We have various different bugchecks attached, most being of:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)

This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced.

Usual causes are a bug in a device driver, hardware related memory issues, corrupt NTFS volume, anti-virus software.

In your *50 DMP, if we take a look at the stack:

We can see that a driver call was made to OEM02Vfx which is a driver which =
Creative Video Camera Device Driver. I recommend ensuring the drivers for this device are up to date - Creative Worldwide Support

If they are, temporarily remove the device to ensure the camera is not the cause of the crashes.

sptd.sys is listed and loaded in your drivers list, this is the SCSI Pass Through Direct Host - Daemon Tools (known BSOD issues with Win7). Remove this driver with the following tool: DuplexSecure - Downloads

If Daemon Tools is installed (I don't see the driver listed, but just in case) remove Daemon Tools ASAP as well.

I see you have Norton installed, I am going to recommend temporarily removing Norton with the removal tool and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials for troubleshooting purposes:

Norton removal tool - https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...eb&pvid=f-home

MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

I had to reinstall WinXP on my Dell XPS M1530, and now Windows doesn't detect the bluetooth unit. The symbol in the line with power buttons etc is lighted though. I have software from before, but could only copy, not install it. What I find works only in Vista. Broadcom's own bluetooth software does neither detect a bluetooth nor work without that. In the control panel there is no icon for bluetooth, even though Windows help suggests exactly that.

Does anyone know how to do that? It worked before, but now I can't figure out how, even after hours of googling...

Best regards

After finally getting the internet to work on this little guy (needed to flip a switch is all) I now find myself completely unable to get the printer to work. looks like i'm not the only one.

I've tried everything - the dell forums are no-help-whatsoever (though this guy does appear to have gotten an older driver version to work)

is it possible I installed the drivers in the wrong order and screwed the pooch so to speak?

Could my logitech usb wireless mouse be creating a conflict?

No printer = me creating a vista partition

A family member's laptop keeps BSOD-ing on them at random. The DMP before the most recent crash I was able to look at myself with the Debugging Tools for Windows. But the only thing I was able to read was: 'Probably caused by: ntkrnlmp.exe'

That was before I got DM Log to collect everything else from this last crash.
The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, with a 1.7GHz i5 (3317U I think) and 6GB DDR3 RAM and is mainly used for web browsing and creating text documents.

I recently ran a monthly malware check up on the laptop in between these last 2 crashes. Pretty sure an infection can be ruled out.

Hello,
I have started to get fairly frequent BSoD on my Dell XPS 17 L10x laptop which I bought just over a year ago now. The error message at the top of the blue screen says "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". The specs of the laptop are:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
CPU: Intel i5 480m
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT435M
RAM: 4GB (not sure of specs)
HDD: 320 GB (again not sure of specs)

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible. Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I've been experiencing intermittent BSODs on my laptop over the last few months. They don't seem to consistently occur under any specific conditions, and I am not doing much with the laptop - Firefox, Word and Excel is about the extent of it.

Configuration info:
Windows 7 x64, OEM version, it is the original OS
System is about 1 year old

It is still just under warranty, so I'm trying to determine if it is a hardware problem I should have fixed now.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello,
A month ago I bought a new ASUS laptop with Intel 320 120gb SSD. It worked perfectly for a few weeks until last week. I dont know if it is a coincidence but after installing Winamp I started getting BSOD once-twice a day, programs started crashing randomly (especially firefox). Tried windows system restore - didn't help. Today I formated my SSD and reinstalled windows but got BSOD several times already. Dump files and system report attached.
Maybe it's SSD's problem ?

System info:

ASUS K73S
CPU: Intel Core i5-2430M, 2,4 GHz
8 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GT540M 1GB
Intel 320 120GB SSD

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM

If I forgot something please ask.

Thanks in advance.
Edit: Ran Memtes86 and got thousands of errors at the very beggining, removed one of two memory modules and running it again (no errors yet).

A:Random BSODs on new laptop with intel ssd

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Hi guys.
My problem started when I had Windows 8.1 installed. I got several different random BSODs every day.
I think it all started on the day I got my HDD replaced with SSD. But I may be wrong.
I was hoping that updating to Windows 10 will solve that issue but it didn't.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have checked the log files again and see that you're running a counterfeit copy of windows, this is not allowed.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I have installed W7 RC and the Dell MD BluRay software and it works except it wraps the video around the screen. IOW the left side of the video starts about 1/3 of the way from the left side of the screen and the right of the video wraps to the left side of the screen.

I have tried Arcsoft TMT3 and PowerDVD and the video is fine, but no sound from TMT3 and PowerDVD spiked my CPU to 100% 5 times watching a movie yesterday. Had to completely shut down the program and restart and then it would run fine for a while.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a Dell upadte, I would be gratefull.

I too am having the same problem. When I first got machine, it did not have error. However, since I have reinstalled OS, I now have video wrapping from right to left around window. Changes to settings does not fix problem.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS M1530 which I installed Windows 7 Professional (SP1) x86 from MSDN.

Most times when the laptop is going to sleep from a power management sleep after x minutes, or closing the lid, this happens:
- The system appears to hang. There's no hard disk activity and nothing recorded in the event viewer around that time.
- The screen is black and doesn't wake up
- Capslock/numlock don't light up when toggled

And I have to hold the power button to turn the system off. When I turn it back on there's no evidence of a bugcheck or error in any of the system event logs.

What's the best way of starting to debug this issue and track down what's causing this?

Thanks!

Hi breathing ,

My name is Sukanya and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
In regards to teh issue you have reported ,I suggest you update the system BIOS and teh video driver once .If that does not fix we can try reinstakkin Windows 7 once again just to rule out the OS .If that alos do not fix the issue ,it could be a hard ware fault and a video card replacement may be required.
I am attaching the link from teh bios and the graphics card driver.

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 notebook with Vista Home. It's doing a very annoying thing. Normally when I shut the laptop, it goes into hibernate mode. However, occasionally I'll open it back up to find that it's crashed and restarted (error message says it was a BSOD). There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Perhaps there is a patch, but I'm not sure what it would be called or where to look. I checked the Acer website for known bugs for this computer, but there weren't any hibernation/blue screen related ones. I didn't find anything useful at the Windows site, and calling Acer customer support is a waste of time (too many bad experiences with them).

Thanks!

A:Multiple BSODs, Multiple Bugchecks (0xD1, 0x3B, 0x50, 0x0A)

Hi anthonylert.

The versatility of the bugchecks are the indication of failing memory prima facie, but as you said you ran Memtest86, can you run the memtest86+?

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Also, disable bluetooth,at least as a test. The Atheros bluetooth module is appearing to be failing.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.

Welcome aboard. Your crash dump says

According to Carrona.org, STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS

But, as the Crash Dumps are totally silent about anything, let us start with searching for a faulty driver.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Also, uninstall the following programs:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\MSI
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\Battery Calibration
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\BurnRecovery
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\EasyFace2
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\EasyViewer
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\i-Charger
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\KLM
Start Menu\Programs\MSI\MSI Software Install
And, free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.

A:Random BSODs, no bootdisk, unable to start, my glitchy laptop

This sounds like a classic case of hard drive corruption. This can be caused by several things, but was probably caused by the virus you had/still have. I would backup everything important, then check in the malware forum for help. If malware is not an issue, then check back here and I will help you further.

Recently I have been getting BSODs very frequently after leaving my laptop on standby. It will just happen at seemingly random timings. Somtimes it happens after half an hour of standby, sometimes it takes a few hours. I have no idea what;s going on. I'm not so good with this IT stuff so please bear with me if I cant follow the jargon I have included the crash dump files here. Please do help

A:Frequent BSODs after leaving laptop on standby at random periods.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
The intel RST driver you are using are very old.

Code:
fffff880`01069000 fffff880`011bd000 iaStor (deferred)

Download and install this particular version of Intel Rapid Storage Driver:
Version: 11.2.0.1006
Date: 06/07/2012
If you see that it is not for windows 7, but for Vista and XP, dont be afraid. Download and install it.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Do some Disc checks.
Reseat the sata and power.

Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Post a screenshot of your HDD using CrystalDiscInfo.
Let us know the results.
