Do I need a better processor?

Q: Do I need a better processor?

Hi there I ve been having issues with my PC lately and have been looking for a place to ask them I hope you guys don t mind Firstly my PC is awfully slow It isn t very noticeable until I play a flash game or something similar Instead of running like it should the speed is decreased dramatically - levels which take one minute to go through take me at least three Now I ve always known that my PC is slow but after seeing that it s that bad I ve decided to make an upgrade I ve tried to keep track of different components and the worst one appears to be my CPU At standby it processor? better need Do I a usually runs at around - and when I launch a browser audio editing software or a game Minecraft in my example it immediately Do I need a better processor? jumps to I m forced to keep my setting to a minimum for it to function The CPU I have is an Intel Do I need a better processor? Pentium GHz chip with GB of RAM usually at Do I need a better processor? around - even when busy I have GB of free hard drive space Also for two years now in the winter months my PC randomly freezes and crashes when running a high-demand program for a while I ve always shrugged it off to overheating my PC is right next to a radiator but now I m really starting to worry about permanent damage I really want to get this solved quickly if possible and would really appreciate any advice you can give So does my CPU need upgrading Or is it possibly my GPU My graphics card is ATI Radeon HD series and I believe it s dedicated though I m not exactly sure By all standards it seems to be good enough at least so I m blaming the CPU for now Am I correct Thank you in advance for any help -Mike nbsp

Preferred Solution: Do I need a better processor?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Do I need a better processor?

I think you are jumping the gun on this. You've mentioned the fact that the PC is next to a radiator so you need to put that right. Secondly, like a car, a computer requires some maintenance. You need to keep the inside of the tower clean using something like an air duster can. The hard drive needs to be defragged occasionally unless it's SSD. Do you run the Windows Clean up utility to reclaim wasted space? Programs starting up with Windows that you aren't using cause a further drain on resources. A free utility that can be downloaded called CCleaner makes it easy to check that out. As the hard drive fills up things slow down so are there programs you can uninstall or stuff you can save elsewhere? See if things run better after you've followed up these suggestions.

Actually what happened is I opened my cpu to clean out any dust so I cleaned it and even cleaned under the processor with a dry cloth.but when I tried to turn on the pc when everything was arranged,a black screen with a paragraph of error is shown.turns off the pc automatically.
My motherboard is fine,it shows a green light in the extreme end.
My processor is working great.
Hard disk is also fine.
But still it is not turning onn. Please help.

A:Processor Problem

Did you happen to have disconnected the power cable from the computer and press and hold the power button to discharge any built up static charges before opening and cleaning inside the computer?
You mentioned you cleaned under your processor. Did you pull the processor from the motherboard or was it still attached when cleaning?
Did you re-check ALL wires and connections? Try disconnecting all cables (to motherboard, hard drive, optical drive, video card, etc.) and then re-connecting said cables, making sure they are firmly seated.
Any chance you can take a photo of the error message and post it here?
May I suggest next time do not use a dry cloth, because you can actually build up static charge within the cloth itself and you could have discharged the built up static electricity into (or onto) one of the computer components.

Definitely the Exynos 5260, no question about it! It is really a 6 core CPU since it uses the 4 Cortex A7 CPUs to process regular loads and it taps into the 2 A15 CPUs when it needs extra power.

A:Need help selecting new processor and motherboard

A few quick questions for clarification:

You mentioned reusing your RAM modules, are the modules DDR3?
A new motherboard will likely not support IDE drives, are all your drives SATA drives?
Intel Core i3, i5, and i7

1st generation - LGA1156 (Nehalem)
2nd generation - LGA1155 (Sandy Bridge)
3rd generation - LGA1155 (Ivy Bridge)
4th generation - LGA1150 (Haswell)
If you want the latest and greatest, the 4xxx CPU's and the LGA1150 CPU socket is what you are looking for. If the second (2xxx CPU's) and third (3xxx CPU's) generation is good for you, the LGA1155 CPU socket is what you are wanting to look at.

A:Am i able to upgrade my psu and processor?

Packard Bell PCs are notoriously hard to upgrade, I think because they use non-standard power supply and case connectors, like some Dells. Such an old system is not worth spending money on (I tried the same thing a couple years ago with a high-end Dell Pentium 4, and it was a waste of time and money - bottlenecks, freezes, BSODs, etc). I would start with a cheap socket 1155 board and an i3 or i5 processor, then it would be worth adding a decent video card and power supply.

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford £1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

I'm having a problem with my laptop, it seems to have a massive drop in performance. I have a AMD Athlon II M300 (2.0Ghz, 1MB L2 Cache) dual core processor. After noticing the lack of performance I checked my windows base score (crude I know) and the score has reduced from 5.7 to 2.9 (it's pretty much halved) The laptop struggles to do medium powered applications and I'm thinking one of the cores has went down (is this even possible?) I've tried using cpu checkers and the speed what comes back is 2.01 ghz, is this right for a dual core, I'm not really sure how it works. Also this test was done directly after a clean install of windows. Any help and advice would be appreciated, thanks. James

You are better off going straight for the I5. Intel change their sockets every few years so when you upgrade, you may need to purchase a new motherboard (more costly) or buy the outdated I5 processor.

A:Need a compatible processor

Well, it is a 1155 socket motherboard. Hence, you can technically fit in any Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge that is below the recommended motherboard/CPU wattage. In this case, that is 95W. A:Processor suggestions for budget office systems to resell

I think a Pentium G2020 will bring you the best performance for $65. The AMD A4-5300 is another great choice for $55. I think the Pentium is probably the better choice because of the larger cache, but for web browsing, word processing, and basic activities, the AMD will be fine.

Do you have to update or change the Motherboard to update the processor?

I have a Pentium 4 processor 548, 3.33GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz front side bus. Can one "Plug and Play" so to speak with an updated processor to the same Motherboard?

A:Motherboard/Processor update

Your CPU socket is PPGA478, P4 is the highest CPU this socket will support.

Even with LGA775 CPU socket, unless you had a motherboard that would support quad core, there would be little reason to upgrade over a complete system replacement.

In answer to your question to "Plug and Play", yes and no. Yes CPU's are basically plug and play, and No the motherboard must support the CPU first.

Hello people, I want to know whether my processor will bottleneck my graphic Card ?
My Specs can be found in my profile.

I have been playing Games Like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon future soldier. When I use my MSI afterburner, I see that my graphic Usage never goes high, it mean, It rarely reaches 70 %. It remains stangent at 60 % or near to that. Whereas my friends Get usage upto 96 %. Could bottlenecking be the reason?

Another Info, All my temps are normal. My resolution is 1366 x 768. I bought HD 7850 so that I could max out all the games and play then-m lag free on ultra settings at my low resolution of 1366 x 768, This card is upto my expectations, but I only get approx 40 FPS in Ghost Recon future soldier whereas other people get 50 - 60 FPS in ultra settings.

So, can I know the problem ? Thank you.

A:Will my processor Bottleneck my graphic Card?

Dual-core won't be helping things, and you may notice a 10fps drop. I'm not gonna bother quoting sources because I can't easily find them and they are dodgy anyway...

But, disable ambient occlusion.. it's a big performance hit.

Anyway, to conclude, your system is fine overall.

Also, can these be used on the same motherboard?
When I look on this comparison chart it says that the AMD X2 is uses a 939 socket, but when I look on my computer it says I'm using a AM2(940 pin) for the X2 processor.

A:Which processor is better

Look at the X2 and X4 labeling on the CPU's. The X2 means two cores and the X4 means 4 cores running at the advertised frequency. Aside from that the Athlon 64 is an older architect than Phenom. The two CPU's you linked to uses different socket designs and cannot be used on the same motherboard.

A:Upgrading Asus K50IN processor

The "for Intel mobile 45 chipset only..." notification is so that a potential buyer is aware that just because the CPU is Intel and socket is Intel doesn't mean the CPU is automatically compatible.

Notebook CPU upgrades are largely a hit-and-miss affair. In addition to the chipset and socket compatibility, you have to deal with a custom BIOS particular to the machine. You might want to check out >>this K50IN CPU upgrade thread<< Both the 9700 and 9900 are 1066MHz FSB (QDR), so theoretically there is little between them. Before swapping out make sure that the BIOS is updated (see the link in the last post in the thread).

Good luck.

A:How to safely overclock an AMD Athlon II X2 240 processor

Amd makes a really nifty, comprehensive piece of performance software called AOD. It can be had here:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/amd-overdrive/Pages/overview.aspx
Most x2 2xx models will OC to between 3.5-3.8Ghz depending on the motherboard you are using. You should list the rest of your components so we know what we are dealing with, including the PSU you are using. assuming you have quality components, you have the advantage of many others OC'ing this model before you. using AOD is nice as you can shorten the time to OC before making the final stable settings semi permanent in the bios if you choose, or setup an OC profile in AOD to use only during intense operations or gaming if you like. If you want, you can jump right to a setting of 3.4Ghz by raising the HT ref to 242 and the V-core to 1.475 and running the built in stability test for 15 minutes. from there raise the HT ref by 5-10 Mhz and run the stability test until it breaks. You can then raise the Vcore in intervals of .025-.05 until stable. Remember your CPU has a locked multiplier so you will be OC'ing the whole system when you raise the HT ref clock (memory,Northbridge, etc) you may want to drop the HT/NB/CPU multiplier back while you find the maximum OC to eliminate it as a possible limiting factor. a couple things to keep in mind...

1) watch temperatures. Its a REALLY good idea to have after-market cooling (heatsink/Fan) while OC'ing
2) make sure you have adequate PSU, both in capacity and quality.
3) the maximum Vcore for this generation of CPU's is 1.55v, better yet, stay at or under 1.5v -1.525v
4) with very good cooling (and if you want to push up over 1.5 V) you may get over 4.0Ghz.

Here is TechPowerup's Oc of an x2 240, you can get an idea of the settings they used to get 3.8Ghz OC (typical OC for this CPU if you have decent MB,PSU etc)

Here is a look at the control screen of the AOD

I have 1 ssd + 2 HD and I will probably add 1-2 hd in some times. I'm also going to buy a 660 ti and change my psu in a 2-3 months.

So I purchased the Intel Q9550 about four years ago, and I'm wondering for how long it will hold. I recently purchased a new graphics card: SAPPHIRE RADEON HD7870 2GB PCI-E DVI/HDMI/DP, and I am wondering for how long this old processor can
last before I have to change it to something better. Any ideas?

A:Old processor: Intel Q9550 still good enough for my use?

Thats a question that only you can answer for yourself. If you are still happy with it then it is still good enough for your use.

Personally for Intel CPU's any quad core is still plenty of power for an average user. I might shake my finger at a LGA775 dual core but not a quad.

I was wondering if there is a way to boost its speed and power a little more though. Right now I can play most mmo's on med settings, but I wanted to get a little more out of it. Currently I have a Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103546) processor in the PC. A:Have an older PC question about processor

Unfortunately, you cannot use the 9150E for your machine. It uses a completely different socket then the 4400+. You will need a board that supports AM2 sockets to use the 9150E.

Hello

As the title says, I wanna change my motherboard processor, and insert an SSD aswell while keeping the old harddrive.

Was wondering if I need to perfom a new reinstall on windows or if I can just transfer windows itself to the SSD and then just keep going. I was also wondering if my windows install will messup if I insert my new motherboard due to new BIOS.

Thanks

A:Changing motherboard and processor

Its always a good idea to fresh install when changing motherboards. A fresh install will minimize any issues that could arise from different hardware configurations. I've also heard that Windows setup detects an SSD and optimizes Windows for use with the SSD.

You should also keep in mind, an OEM license for Windows is not be transferable to a new motherboard. The motherboard is the one component that constitutes a new machine. OEM installs are bound to the motherboard they are activated on.

Just remember the motherboard you have does not support processors with a 1333 MHz FSB. Make sure if you buy a CPU upgrade, it has either a 800 MHz or 1066 MHz FSB.

A:Processor+integrated graphics clarification

Hi, First make sure that you can actually fit a graphics card into your pc, you will need a spare PCI-express slot.
Have a look at the photo on this page. The PCI-express graphics slot is 'B' and the processor is 'G'.
The processor will have a large fan on top of it so you can't see it when it's built.
http://www.build-your-own-computer.net/motherboard-diagram.html

The BIOS can have a few options regarding graphic cards. But if there is an option to detect a separate graphic card in a PCI-express slot, it may be called 'Auto'. So you will need to look in the 'Integrated peripherals' section for that.
If you are not sure about BIOS settings, best to find out more info about yours, as you could make your pc difficult to use with the wrong settings.
Also if you buy a graphics card as in your link, note that it has DVI outputs, so you will need to buy a DVI monitor cable, and your monitor must have a DVI (cream or white) input, near to the blue VGA input you will be using up till now.
Another way is to look for a Graphic card with both VGA (blue) and DVI (white) outputs, so you have two options.

A:Overclocking Celeron D processor became dud, suggestions to the problem?

Just to make sure...killing the power to it for a few seconds won't clear the CMOS if there is a battery on the motherboard. If there's not a jumper to clear the CMOS then try unplugging it, taking the battery out for a few minutes then putting it all back together.

I have an Intel Core i3 2310M (Sandy Bridge) processor and even with a cooling pad my cpu is reaching temps. of 85 degrees and without the cooling pad it's even worse. I've recently started overclocking my gpu which is a gt 525M and I'm wandering if that could be the problem. Thanks.

A:Is my processor overheating?

85 sounds high to me for an i3, but I don't actually know, nor have I looked up, the max temp for it, I do know mobile processors tend to have a higher max temp than traditionals.

I think the real question here is why did you ask this? Were you having problems?

Temp problems manifest themselves a few ways:
Super sluggishness because the CPU throttles way down.
Windows or other OS errors, when things go bad, they don't compute well, which is why you see stability problems on high ends of overclocking.
Graphics corruption on GPU overclocks, or simply bad drivers on normal clocks.

I'm sure there are some I missed, but that is the gist of it.

If you aren't seeing any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. Fixing laptop overheating problems yourself is more involved than doing the same on desktops.

A:Processor and DRAM speeds help

What temperature utility are you using? Clearly 1C is wrong.

You need to check your CPU speed when it's under load, downclocking when idle is a power saving feature of all Intel and AMD CPUs.

When reading about the FSB to RAM ratio stuff make sure you ONLY read the Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge articles because previous Intel generations work differently. For your IB CPU the FSB speed is pretty much set to 100Mhz so you need a ratio of 18 to get to 1800Mhz on the RAM.

So I have intel core i5 2320 3Ghz processor and when I dont do anything with computer just surfing on net I got about 40C-45C temperature. I cheack temperature with Speccy program. However when I playing game like gta 4 I got form 70-75 temperature and one time I got 80 but its was just for one time. So and I have fews questions, its normal, its safe ? And when I playing game like crysis gta 4 I got fps drop in some places, but I hear that is normal when fps drop in some places on gta and crysis, fps drop is not so big. On other game no fps drop like postal and mafia II. But maybe it can have influence for performance I dont know so that why I ask you.

A:It's this temperature normal for processor and games performance?

Slowing down depends on what's happening on-screen, e.g. the FPS during an explosion or a lot of smoke/dust would be lower than normal. But at high temps, thermal throttle would kick in, slowing things down.
Anyhow, to the thread's main question:
The "normal" temps depends on ambient temps, really. 30C, while hot for Antarctica, is a miracle for Sahara. Knowing your ambient temps and system configuration/placement would help.
But if you are uncomfortable with those temps (should be, IMHO), refer to the Cooling Guides in my signature for help.

Is it JUST my processor, Is itJUST my Integrated graphics card, is it multiple things? What? I want to play GTA 5 when it comes out and enjoy a good 30FPS or more. But I have vodka taste, beer pockets. Please help, also I would love to NOT upgrade my processor!

A:How much exactly does a processor affect gaming?

You need a discreet GPU. You are going to probably need to replace your PSU as well. Do you know the brand/model and how many watts your current PSU is? I can't believe you are playing any game @ 7-15 FPS. Add a GTX 460 and you will be playing @ 60+ FPS on most games on medium and @ 35-40 on most high settings. FYI, integrated graphics are not intended for gaming. As far as processors, gpu and gaming go you will fall into one of two bottlenecking categories....You need to find the happy medium.

so i fried my motherboard, got it fixed and he put a single core procssor in it. this isnt nearly fast enough, so i want to put my processor from my old computer in this one, which is a dual core. i talked to the guy at the computer shop, and he said that using a new motherboard with a used processor isnt good? like they are not compatible or something like that? i didnt think this is true at all and was wondering if it is true or not?

Judging from PassMark.com benchmark scores.

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ > benchmarks between 400 & 500
Intel Core2 Duo 1.6GHz > benchmarks between 800 & 1100

To answer your question, I don't see any reason why the laptop would be slower. The laptop has two times the CPU performance and three times the memory.

I am thinking about overclocking my CPU to minimize a possible bottleneck when i put in my new crossfire ASUS Radeon 6970 DirectCU II 2GB cards, should i be putting it up to 4GHZ?

Oh and if you don't know already the standard clock of the 950 is 3.06GHz, i also have a CoolerMaster V10 to cool the CPU so heat shouldn't be a problem

That kind of depends on the chip. Always best to OC incrementally. Some chips don't overclock well, some do, and some will but might need a bucketload of voltage tossed into the CPU and chipset. The first couple of 950's I tried OC'ed moderately well, but required close to 1.4v to get them there. The chip I now use won't OC as high (~3.8-3.9) but does so at good voltage (~1.18-1.2v)

The V10 is a good air cooler. The TEC doesn't work overly effectively until the heat production starts ramping up. Overall it's going to be no more effective than a top-tier air cooler (i.e. Noctua NH-D14, Thermalright Archon) or closed loop all-in-one watercooler (i.e. Corsair H80/H100, Antec Kuhler 920) so keep an eye on the temps during stability/stress testing.

Good evening all,

my friend has an old Advent 7110 laptop and is experiencing a couple of problems with it, mainly this one, described in his own words: "lappy keeps crashing but not in a turny-offy way, the screen goes all liney and freezes then when you turn it off and on again the fan runs but it doesn't boot" - it does this while plugged in or not.

He originally asked me about graphics cards, thinking it might be something to do with that, but it sounds more like a processor or power issue to me, has anyone got any ideas??

Thank you,
Jess

Hello to all,

This is my first post here and i am in need of a little help. I am currently thinking of upgrading my processor as i think its really the only part of my system that is lacking a bit of power. To give a rough idea what im working with i have as follows:

6523 Dell Inspiron 545 Intel Quad 1
Core 2.5GHz 6GB Ram 750GB HDD
ATI Radion HD 4 series ( Specifics i can provide later as i am not at the computer in question.

Now im sure there is other information needed before anyone can help and i have done a little background research so im not completely brain dead when it comes to this topic, I just dont want to end up spending too much or too little on a processor and maybe even ordering something that is of no use to me.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:A little processor help please anyone?

I don't think that the CPU warrants an upgrade. The Core 2 Quad Series is decent. Should not need an upgrade unless you're into very heavy content creation/3D Modelling/etc.

Hi there,
It would help to know what resolution you wish to game at, level of detail you would expect, types of games etc. short of that, I would recommend a complete new build just because of the Sempron. besides being a single core CPU, it is one of the least capable CPU's on the food chain, as well as being rather dated now. If you can provide the details listed above, and a budget, one or more of us will be glad to help with budget/use appropriate build suggestions.

ohh man , 94 C is too hot , the normal temp for your cpu should be between 45 and 50 C , and according to intel your max safe cpu temp is about 73°C , so i think you have a serious heat problem, you need to check your cpu fan status and ensure that it is running fine,

hello, ive had this desktop computer for years now and the processor is extremely outdated. I have been looking around trying to figure out how i can upgrade the processor speed but it seems the more i look up the less i know about computers...

anyways i have: Board: MICRO-STAR MS-7184
Serial Number: 5922655884

current proccessor: 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
256 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Not hyper-threaded

I believe the socket is a 939? when i looked up these specs i found that the highest processor i can place is " AMD Athlon 64 X2 (up to 4800+) and Sempron (up to 3200+) processors".

Can anyone verify this?Or is it not worth investing in a new processor? i am looking to find the best upgrade rather then spending cash to buy a new computer. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

A:Looking to upgrade processor, board Micro-Star MS-7184

Hey Noctis,

Truth be told you are better off upgrading your Motherboard, RAM, and Processor if you want to see any substantial difference. A socket 939 is quite a bit old and since then they have move onto the AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, etc sockets for AMD Mobos and Processors.

Socket 939 processors are to the point where they are no longer just old enough to be cheap. Since they are no longer made they are old enough to be more expensive than modern counterparts in many cases.

When upgrading the MOBO and CPU you want to look into more than just the processor speed. Important factors are also the types and amount of cache for a processor, number of cores, and RAM that can be used with that CPU.

The newer Athlon II X2s as an example are a significant leap from the original Athlon 64s and a discerning buyer online can find them significantly cheap. AM2+ boards are currently somewhat inexpensive and so is DDR2 RAM. They are currently at the stage where they are old enough to be somewhat cheap but with the newest socket and processors being sold by AMD now it may change iwthin the next few years to start getting expensive again from being old enough.

You also have the route of a AM3 with DDR2 or DDR3 Ram option available which are also moderately priced.

If you check out the website pricewatch.com you can look at pricing for several different mobos, cpus, etc from various websites easily. I just completed a full build including case, HDD, Mobo, CPU, DVD-RW, RAM, Graphics card, etc for just over $350.00

A:Question about processor cores

As far as I can tell by watching my processor usage I'd say yes, it does a good job of spreading things around to all 4 cores. I wouldn't quite say things are fixed to a core though. You will see the benefits but how it divvies itself up is probably complicated. With 4 cores the CPU rarely gets fully taxed in a game.

and this motherboard:GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2P AM3 NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 630a chipset Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

The FSB on the motherboard says 1000MHz Hyper Transport (2000 MT/s), the FSB of the processor says 4000mhz.

Is this a problem? motherboard says its ready to take on the 6-core AMD processor that i purchased. Is this going to be a problem. If someone could tell me what would happen if i put them together i would greatly appreciate it. im freaking out right now.... think i just wasted money on this mobo.

A:I think I bought the wrong motherbaord for my processor!

According to the Gigabyte site there are two revisions of this board, Rev 1.0 and Rev 3.0. The AMD Phenom II X6 1090T is not on the Supported Cpu list for Rev 1.0 but is supported on Rev 3.0
.
The following note is on the product page for both revisions:

* If you install AMD AM3 CPU on this motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0 (5200MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM3 CPU will not be impacted. Please refer "CPU Support List" for more information.Click to expand...

If I'm reading this right it appears that you'll need Rev 3.0 to run the 1090T but it will still degrade from HT 3 to HT 1. Here are the Cpu support lists off the Gigabyte site.

Socket AM3 - NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a - GA-M68MT-S2P (rev. 1.0)

Socket AM3 - NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a - GA-M68MT-S2P (rev. 3.0)

Personally, I would recommend that you return your current board if possible and upgrade to a that natively supports the 1090T.

A:Which processor and mobo for gaming comp?

Its likely the first one, as has the highest clock speed. However, none of them are really going to be very useful for gaming on all the very oldest of games.

Some more information is required on the sorts of games you wish to play before even spending some money, as what your hoping for might not be possible for the budget you have in mind.

Buying in Ireland, or online is fine.

A:What processor can I upgrade to from an Intel Pentium M?

"I would really like to be able to update/upgrade my processor"...

Why? Upgrading the CPU in a laptop never gives much gain in performance. You are limited by the 533MHz data bus. You can increase the system Ram to the max allowed (you may have the max memory installed already) and install a bigger capacity hard drive. Doing this will give you a good increase in performance, much more than just changing the CPU

I'm new to building. I'm looking at a processor but havent quite learned how to pair it with a motherboard. I understand that Intel processors have to go with Intel compatible Mobos and that graphics cards have to be supported by the mobo etc but I still dont understand fsb and ports etc.

Im looking at an Intel core i7 2600K processor.
3.4 GHz quad core.
max memory 32 GB
with a LGA 1155 socket.
it supports DDR3-1066/1333 memory
it doesnt show any fsb but instead says its replaced fsb with whats called DMI 2.0. Any tips on a solid motherboard to go with this.

Additional info:
Im also looking to plug TWO GeForce graphics cards into my mobo.
Also im planning 24GB of ram.
SATA hard drive and dvd rom drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Probably the best place to start would be for you to give us some information on your budget for the build and what the primary use of the system will be. There are a wide range of motherboard choices for the the i72600K which would be influenced by the factors already mentioned, same applies for a SLI configuration. Also, is there a particular reason you want to go with 24MB of memory?

Have you checked that the motherboard is compatible with a dual core processor. An additional 10 Watts should not be a problem but the extra heat might be although that may be overcome by using a cooling pad.

What is the model of the PC.

Hi I m thinking of building a new PC or more accurately speccing a new-build PC from a manufacturer and I have a couple of options regarding the processor and graphics card I ll mainly be using it for games and of new and regarding PC for processor Couple choice questions card a graphics the internet Firstly am I right in thinking that the Intel multicore processors are now generally considered superior to AMD That s what I ve been reading Couple of questions regarding processor and graphics card choice for a new PC anyway Anyway assuming I m correct in this assumption I have two options regarding the processor- I can either go with the Intel i or Couple of questions regarding processor and graphics card choice for a new PC the new i K both are the same price I think I m leaning towards the because as far as I can tell from what I ve read it s basically a X Extreme Edition without the unlocked multiplier and has cores versus the K s plus I m a bit wary of going with the K considering it s had some faults so far However it is the quot newer quot processor so I m not too sure Also if it affects things the K is professionally overclocked to GHz while the doesn t appear to be overclocked at all Regarding graphics cards I have a couple of options on those too Standard option no upcharge is the nVidia GTX MB Then if I go with the K I can upgrade to the GB NVIDIA GTX Dual-GPU Graphics card for about If I go with the I can upgrade to the GB Dual-GPU AMD HD for Any ideas Summary Which processor is better- Intel i or i K overclocked to GHz Which graphics card is best- nVidia MB GTX Dual-GPU GB NVIDIA GTX upcharge or Dual-GPU GB AMD HD upcharge Thanks in advance for any help you can give me Dave nbsp

A:Couple of questions regarding processor and graphics card choice for a new PC

2600k and for gpu comes down to features, its 3d, cuda and physx (nvidia) vs eyefinity (radeon) as both gpus are pretty much equal in games performance

I did an intel burn test on standard mode i saw the cpu temperature go up to 101C the normal operating temp is between 45-60C & 41C when idle.I never touched the heat sink/fan except for cleaning purpose for 3 years, Is the paste dry now? I know you have to reapply the paste every time you remove the heat sink but I never removed it just wiped the dust off it.The Processor is Intel Core 2 Duo E7400.

A:Processor heating up

Just an idea you may want to try some other temp software just to make sure it's not getting a false reading. Other wise change the paste and retest..Thats all I got for you.

I ve just installed a new processor my friend gave me Intel Pentium Dual Core E It s clocked at ghz and obviously dual core However I only had the stock fan heatsink from my older processor Intel Core Duo E Now when I run my computer my fan is extremely loud and the processor runs between mid s to low s at cooling Processor idle When I tried playing Processor cooling Crysis it shot up to C I m assuming this is unsafe but Processor cooling not sure how to deal with it Here is what I am thinking Could I get some feedback The E stock cooling setup isn t enough for the stronger If this is the case I ll need to get an aftermarket cooler Does anybody have reccomendations for one that isn t too expensive I don t need to be silent but tolerable at least now mine sounds like a jet engine I didn t have any thermal paste at the time so i just put the processor in and put the fan Will applying some help at all Do I need to try a certain variant Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Processor cooling

You need thermal paste for proper heat transfer, thats is probably why it's so high. You could grab some arctic silver 5 from a lot of PC stores out their, it's good paste and easy to apply.

A:What's the difference in using one processor compared to another?

Those CPU you mentioned are very obsolete but I'm willing to provide you a simple information.

Avoid Celeron, those are for budget-minded people, and they're extremely slow.

For this year market, there's a big difference on performance between dual, triple and quad core cpus.

Check this link out. This could help you since it has the performance, info and price values as in comparsion against each other.

ATi Radeon TM HD 3200 Graphics up to 1408MB hypermemory TM
3gb memory
acer nplify TM 802.11b/g/n

i was wondering if i can upgrade my processor and get more out of my laptop and looking to upgrade my graphics card

any help would be appreciated..

thanks scotty

A:Looking to upgrade my laptop's processor and graphics

There's nothing you can do, except upgrading the bigger ram ( laptop has the limit. ), bigger hard drive, and maybe new wifi card.

Better suggestion is to exchange your laptop in for the new one; or ride this out and suck it up.

can i use that fan? they are the same socket.. LGA775.. tnx..

A:Can I use fan of my Dual Core for my Core 2 Duo processor?

It will probably be OK but if the replacement CPU is a higher wattage keep a carefull watch on the temperatures. Make sure you apply new thermal paste when fitting it. Use this free software to watch the temperatures, set it up so it displays the temps in the task bar.

Hello all

So i got this pc today from a guy at work. I was going to replace his power supply for him but first he took it to best buy to have them check and see what the deal was and if he still had a warranty. Well warranty was up and it is the board that is fried..So he wanted me to check on finding him a replacement. Well today he decided to just not mess with it so he gave it to me.

Here is the problem. I'm pretty experienced with replacing hardware but i have never messed with a MB and i'm not sure what to look for. It's an ET1831-05
ntel® Celeron® Processor 450
(2.20GHz, 512KB cache, 800MHz FSB)

any help is greatly appreciated

A:Motherboard and processor for eMachines PC

So, you thought it was the PSU and now your told it is the motherboard, are you sure? Who made the diagnosis. What are the symptons, does it power up, any fans running, any beep codes, etc.

Ok so i know i should just upgrade my motherboard, RAM and processor but dont really have the money to do so. I am looking at the Pentium D processors for my Gigabyte motherboard. Here is a link with compatable processors listed:

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2257

The Pentium D 950 is the highest on the list compatable.

There all pretty cheap online, just wondering which one to get. Thanks

A:Looking at new Intel processor

Yea you don't have a lot of options for processors, so I would just opt for the one you picked. If they are cheap enough it will suffice until you can upgrade. Personally, I would try to find an even cheaper used chip to use, unless you need a new cooler as well.

The 945 seems to have the same credentials, so you could look for either...

I currently am running an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2Ghz , 939 Pin processor, I have been Looking around for a good proccessor but i need some help on price and the best choice for me, Dual core would be good, if anybody could name the best processor for me to buy, Medium priced ones i dont want to spend alot, i just want to imrpove my system could someone also tell me what diffrences the proccesor would make to good one that would be worth to buy.

I was Looking at 'AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 2.0GHz 1MB socket 939 Dual Core' And im wondering if it would imrpove my computer alot? as its a Dual core, and a 1Mb.
My 3200+ Single is

L1 Data Cache Size 64 KBytes
L1 Instructions Cache Size 64 KBytes
L2 Unified Cache Size 512 KBytes

A:Upgrading AMD 939 socket processor

it would help but the 939 socket is dead so how much of a difference really comes down to if you think the money is worth the upgrade IMO save your money and get a much nicer system for not much more you can pick up an AM3 MB and 4Gb DDR3 and a tri core cpu for less than or around $200 usd.

I just recently tried my hand at building my own pc and im not getting a first boot screen and well im pretty sure the motherboard is getting power since the cpu fan is spinning and everything of that nature. But no bios setup screen and i didnt think my cpu was fried or damage but when i lifted it out of the motherboard theres three pins that are blue on the top left of the cpu could this mean that my processor is bad i dont have a spare to test right now just wondered if anyone had any ideas what might be going on.

This is what i got

Gigabyte GA-H67M-D2 Mobo
Intel i5 2300 2.8ghz
Kingston 2gb Ram x2 KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX
Sparkle ATX 500W PSU

It came together in a kit so i assumed everything was compatible if anyone can help me id appreciate it

A:Not getting BIOS setup screen, 3 pins on processor blue

I'll assume the 3 pins are in the corner indicating the orientation of the CPU. Start out simple and take the mobo out of the case and put in on some cardboard and try to power it with just ram, cpu, and cpu cooler attached. If you get a screen, you should be ok.

if your pins are "burnt" then yeah, that's bad - you got a short.

Hey guys, i have the Msi Amethyst-M Motherbord, and i wanted to ask aviadable Processors i could fit in? Not really Expensive ones just Better than Amd Athlon 64 3200+ 2Ghz, so im looking for 3Ghz or so. Does anybody know any processors, cheap ones im not asking for i7 hehe etc.. Also guys i wanted to know how to fit it in to my computer

A:Processor

It may be a little difficult to find a processor for Socket 939 at this point since it's been phased out for quite a while. Still, your best choices would probably be an Athlon FX-60 or an Opteron 185 if you can find either. Spotted this AMD Athlon 64 3500+ on Amazon but it's nearly $100 and only gives you a 200MHz bump. If I come across anything else will post back.

A:New processor and video card compatibility

Acer Aspire G7200.Click to expand...

This is the model of the PC, you need to supply the make and model number of your mother board. If you look inside the box you should be able to find this information written on the board. You should also think about checking your power supply to be sure it can cope with the extra power. What size is your PSU at present.
