I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am getting random CPU spikes whilst playing games, it lags a lot and Ive noticed a drop in fps when Firefox is running. Though I have a good system which should be able to handle this.

Can someone please advise and what the think the problem is?

Hi all

I recently upgraded the CPU in my laptop (the specifics aren't important). It runs better than it ever has before! Well, at least it does for around 30 minutes. It's developed a lovely habit of randomly and unexpectedly shutting off.

Now, I know that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard; the fact that my laptop actually runs proves this.

I'm wondering what the issue could be?

My main suspicion is heat. The laptop is running at about 50-55 degrees on average; is this normal? I've cleaned out all of the airways and the fan; it's all running normally and the fan varies in speed depending on workload and temperature. This leads me to believe that the problem might lie somewhere else.

I've searched nearly every forum going but everyone just yells about overheating. Could someone please advise me to any theories they may have and help me fix the problem

A:Random Shut offs

Sounds pretty much as heat issues to me. I have also once upgraded a laptop cpu and even tho the clock speed increased by only 300MHz it got heat issues. I had to have a separate notebook cooler for that to run.
Anyways, the specs would help us to find what sort of temps your comp. should run on...and does it just randomly die when you idle or does it die after you have been using it for a while?

Hello,

My computer randomly disconnects from the internet while gaming, youtubing or emailing etc. My computer is on wired internet and I've tried switching ports and switching cables. I've been searching the internet but I can't find any solution. Is there any way someone could help me?

Thank you very much,

A:Random 1 second disconnects

What were you doing prior to this started happening. You need to make sure you not infected by pest. First remove any Wired ethernet cord from the PC. Run a system virus check set to full scan. Let that run. If nothing turns up. Try setting your PC network adapter to static IP. This means you don't let the router setup the IP.

If that doesn't work then you have a bad network adapter. You could also try downloading newer drivers for your network adapter. Also any firmware updates for your router too.

So, a few months ago I bought a Dell inspiron 5552 laptop and in the past month or two I have been dealing with problems which are becoming VERY frequent. At random times, especially when I'm gaming, my laptop switches off - even when my laptop is cool. I downloaded Piriform's Specci and here are the results I got for the following hardware (Celsius): CPU 51, Motherboard 52, Hard drive 38 - These are the results on balanced and Dell battery life extender enabled. I've seen videos of dusting a laptop's ventilation system however their temperatures didn't seem to make a significant difference so I didn't try it. Any ideas?

A:Random shut-downs

Most probable issue is still the cooling and secondly too much power drain via graphics adaptor.

For the past couple of months, I've noticed an FPS drop across all my games. I usually play games like League of Legends and DotA 2 so they aren't really CPU heavy. I thought maybe it could be overheating. This is currently my fan status:

PC Specs:
Manufacturer: HP
Processor: AMD Phenom 8550 Triple-Core 2.20 GHz
Memory: 3GB RAM
HDD: 640GB
Video Card: GeForce 9500 GS

Not great, but it should be more than capable of running these types of games, they're not high end on graphics.

I've tried cleaning inside a couple of times.

A:Random FPS drops in LoL and Dota 2

Is that reading at idle?

If so, you have some worryingly high GPU temperatures. You should try cleaning the dust from GPU fan/heatsink. The CPU temperatures are also pretty mediocre, so I'd clean the dust from that fan as well.

If you can help me solve my problem I will be more than happy to compensate you for your time! (PayPal)

Okay so to be precise, it is a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6857

The problem is that the computer will completely shut off at any given time. It will sometimes boot into windows but it will be a black screen with only the cursor until a blue screen pops up that I never have enough time to read through. It won't stay on trying to install a new OS or in the Setup Manager.
What I've tried:
Removing hardware one by one to see if it was the problem
Completely cleaned heatsink
Removed battery and ran only with power cord
Power drain
Replaced motherboard with a used but working one

Let me know if you need anymore information.
Thank you in advance for your time!

Ive only had the privledge (and by that, I mean, enough money) to build a single CPU (with my brother, it was his) in my life. I recall it has (still works apart from mobo, only recently replaced) a intel core 2 quad. I see people talking about bent pins and stuff on CPUs, but I dont remember pins being on the core 2 quad. that was the easiest part I recall, just literally placed the chip in the socket (the heatsink, that was a headache). I dont recall any pins. Are pins literally pins as in thin rods sticking out of the bottom, or what?

A:Sorta random CPU question (no problems, just a question)

Most modern CPU's (Intel at least) no longer have pins on the CPU, but instead the pins are on the socket.

The newer socket 1155 and 1366 (and 2011 for that matter) are just like the Socket 775 you are experienced with the Core 2 Quad you installed, just slightly larger sockets.

It is still very possible to bend pins though, but in this way, you damage the motherboard (with the CPU socket) vs. the CPU. You must be careful when inserting the CPU since dropping it on a corner into the socket CAN bend and damage pins.

So if you've built a system with Socket 775/Core 2 Quad, you should have no problem with Core i3/i5/i7 and newer Intel sockets if this is what you plan to do. Everything is basically the same... just slightly different socket and DDR3 memory vs. DDR2, which are also very similar and just snap in the DIMM slots similarly.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

A:Salt's random CPU blabber and some reading. Be prepared.

CPU's don't tick.
Probable culprits are:
PSU fan - see if any wires/cable are in close proximity to the PSU fan. No? Take out the PSU (or invert the chassis). What about now? If changing the orientation stops or decreases the sound then it's either a dry fan bearing or a loose wire or piece of insulation thats broken away and connecting with the fan blades.
Secondary culprit could be something (wiring/cabling) interfering with a chassis or graphics fans

Anyone think they can help me with this annoying issue? My internet at times will randomly drop
and reconnect after 30 seconds or so. Usually the error messages on my laptop or PC will say that a local cable has been unplugged, limit connectivity or a problem with the access point.

I'm running Windows XP on PC and Windows 7 on the laptop. I have a Dlink WBR-1310 router and it's secured with a WPA encryption. I honestly think it's a problem with my router, because I never had this issue before I first bought it.

A:Internet keeps dropping at random times

Reset the router to see if it will cure the problem.

Instructions on how to do so can be found here: http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-sol...wbr-series-router-to-factory-default-settings

You might also want to try updating the firmware of the router.

You'll need to select the correct revision first...

Hi there I currently have a studio 1747 from Dell. I play some video games on it mostly from steam such has CS, CSS, the new CSGO TF2 etc. Lately ive been getting random FPS drops in game. I could be running fine at about 150fps for 5-20 mins then all of a sudden it drops to about 20. At first I thought it was caused by overheating but then I went out ad bought a cooling pad with three cooling fans to put underneath it and I'm still getting this problem. Im beginning to think that maybe this laptop just cant handle pc gaming? But my starting FPS is at about 120-125 before these drops. Any solutions would be great!

Hey. This is an awful issue for me I've been having.

I may open a browser and it will work fine for a while. Or I may be browsing and it takes 10 seconds just to highlight whatever I'm hovering my mouse over. I check CPU usage and it's at 100%...

Usually I will play a game of sc2 and it will be chugging along at 65-110 fps on lowest and then suddenly lag... freeze and jump. Then maybe 2 games later I play through a whole game at 90 fps.

I recently REFORMATED so it is NOT a virus issue or a ****ed up registry issue or similar.

I'm using AMD Athlon 64x2.

Windows Vista 32 bit. Service pack 2.

Please help me, this is killing me

I just built a new computer recently and it is running great with one big exception, I keep getting randomly disconnected from my wireless internet connection. I do not believe it has anything to do with signal strength because my laptop right next to my rig never has this issue of connectivity. Also seeing as it is a new comp it is not an issue of any malware ect. If i had to guess i would say the wireless card i got is the issue. It was a last minute purchase and cost about 20 dollars. My question is how do I uncover if the wireless card is the culprit and if it is what steps do i take to fix/replace it?

Hi,

Hi,

Can anyone please help with this problem as it's driving me nuts. I am getting the DNS error when I try to go to certain websites ie. ebay.com. I've been in contact with my ISP but they don't seem to know how to fix the problem. My system consists of: WinXP Pro sp3, D-Link 2640R Router, wired connection. I'd be grateful any help. Thank you....

Verity25

I have managed to resolve this issue myself....

A:DNS error on random websites

Hmm, w/o more info, an inability to access common sites like "eBay" suggests your "Network Adapter" (not hardware, but a MS Networking driver) is corrupted. A number of things can cause this, but "AdWare" is the most common culprit. The problem has always been far too common with XP (and earlier). Much less of a problem since Vista/W7 made changes to those essential services far more unlikely.

If you can, I suggest you try connecting another PC to the same internet connection and see what you get. Or, if you're computer savvy enough, I recommend downloading a free copy of Ubuntu Linux and connecting to the Internet with the "Live CD" (a way to test the OS w/o installing it.) Both methods will rule out an issue with your ISP.

A:Random pulses of lag while using applications

"Is there any process that tends to make the computer lag only while an application is running?"...

Yes, poor antivirus/antimalware programs, and loads of temp files. Download and run Old Timers free temp file cleaner and free Superantispyware. See if your laptop runs faster after running these two programs

A:Random FPS lag spikes

Just a quick note:

Run "DxDiag", "accept WHQL-signatures", go to the third tab up on the left - called "Monitor" or "Screen" or "Graphics" or something like that.

At this tab, you can see what GPU you have.
If you restored the PC to factory settings, but still experience lag, then this is at least not software-related.

- Have you re-installed the graphics drivers?

--------------------

The Acer Aspire X1301 I looked up on Google was a stationary PC, so I'm expecting that your PC is a stationary model.

You should check the CPU temperature in your BIOS, and if it doesn't void any kind of warranty, you should also check (only see, don't touch) the inside of your PC.
- Is it "very" dusty? Like a 1mm film of dust everywhere or equivalent?

Not stops working random at Mouse sure if this is the right place for this but if not please point me in the right direction While using my work computer the mouse will randomly freeze on the screen as if the driver was uninstalled I reboot and everything is fine and works again I ve tried multiple mice that work fine on my personal laptop I tried to uninstall the through the device manager and reinstalling and still continues to freeze up I Mouse stops working at random feel like its a driver issue but I m not completely sure When it would freeze in the beginning I would just move it to a different usb that its never been plugged into and it d install the driver and the mouse would unfreeze However I ve now used every usb slot and that doesn t work anymore if I switch spots it stays frozen When I got the machine it would happen maybe once or twice a day Then it went to maybe once every couple days Now so far today I ve had to reboot times due to this issue this is really causing me issues because its slowing my development time down considering I have to reboot every minutes I asked someone in the office about this and they said they remember this happening with our former employee that used this machine and it was reformatted after that Which means its a hardware issue but this isn t confirmed I d like to make sure that s the issue before I have to have a new PC shipped Any help would be appreciated let me know if you need some sort of logs or whatever you may need Thank you nbsp

Im having trouble with my newly built computer freezing at random points during my startup and if it does boot up all the way it always freezes on the "Shutting Down" screen. Im running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and have reinstalled it two times.
Here is what I currently have in it:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI
G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
WD 1TB HDD
500W Power supply

A:Freshly built computer freezes at random points during startup

Sounds like there could be an issue with your BIOS... either needs to be flashed to a newer version to fully support the X6 processor or the settings just need to be tweaked. Make sure your memory is running in accordance to factory spec and that your voltages for both CPU and RAM is within acceptable range.

I hope i have the right board. Anyway I have a sony viao laptop.
It plays random adverts all the time. It also happens when I click play on a youtube videos or the likes. It'll play over the video its very annoying.

I have scanned the laptop with fully updated AVG, NOD32, SPYBOT, MALWARE BYTES, SUPER ANTISPYWARE.
not all at once but installed them one at a time an updated them.
they all found absolutly nothing.

I've uninstalled most programs also to narrow it down but it seems to be none of them.

I've always had AVG up to date so I dont know how this happened.

Does anybody have any ideas? I'd hate to have to wipe the laptop cause im away from home for a few months and dont have discs and drivers etc.

Cheers

After I formatted my HDD, re-installed the same Windows 7 I had before I've been getting brief and random picture-freezes. They appear to be more often and last longer when playing a game or so forth, although they even pop up while using a browser or MSN. I have no idea what might be causing this, as the PC itself is fast as usual. If anyone can help me...I'd be eternally grateful.

Short and facty:
1) Brief picture freezes, more often when PC working hard
2) Just did a format
3) NEED THIS FIXED FAST =)

Hi,
I have just been through the process of cleaning malaware from my computer (with the help of your techs). It was a google redirect problem but I was also experiencing random disconnects from the internet and audio and I assumed they were all related. Everything is now fine except that I am still getting the occasional disconnect from the wireless. It's not happening as often as before. When I check my wireless connection it usually says that i'm connected. I usually disconnect and reconnect which works sometimes. Occasionally when I disconnect it says it cannot locate any wireless networks and I have to reboot. Sometimes hitting the Repair button on the computer icon in my tray works. Any suggestions?

Yesterday I started noticing that my computer randomly makes 2 quick noises in a row that sound like sandpaper being scratched together. The first is a longer noise, the second is the same type of noise but abbreviated.

It happens when I am using the computer at random times (maybe every 10 minutes) and also when I am not using the computer, just a few feet away perhaps.

Any ideas? ... This noise is annoying because I have the volume on quite a bit due to medical transcribing w/ sounds files.

A:Random strange noise from speakers/earphones

A click or buzz noise that happens every 10 or 15 minutes, could be coming from another electrical device on the same mains wiring, for instance, a fridge, or central heating thermostat.
Each time a fridge motor starts up, it puts a 'spike' of noise into the local mains wiring, which is amplified by items such as Hi-Fi or PC speakers. If that is the case, it is possible to buy for a few pounds (dollars), a small choke that will clip over the mains lead, near the plug, which will cut the interference down.
Also, there are mains extension cables with multiple outlets designed for HI-Fi of PC use, which have spike suppression built in. It is sometimes called 'mains conditioning'.
These are not the same thing as 5 extension 'gangs' !
The prices vary wildly, but here is one I found quickly. http://www.saverstore.com/product/2...-Mains-Extension-Lead-with-Power-Conditioning
Or try (if in UK) http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?tabid=1&criteria=usb&moduleno=219077&c=so&u=strat15

Also: From past experience with interference in a HIFi system, the problem turned out to be coming from the central heating boiler next door! In that case the fault has to be stopped at source. You might try fitting an RF filter to your speaker or headphone lead. I have a similar 'Choke' on my PC speakers. I bought a DAB radio this year, and a similar device is fitted to the mains adapter.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32799
These clip on ferrites are designed to go over the mains lead to prevent the interefence from running up the lead, but if you use headphones for transcribing work, or audio typing, it might be better to wind the headphone lead through this choke, several times over.

Hey shutdowns now random scanner suffers my fell and from My PC onto first post in need of advice So I knocked my tower over with a left elbow by accident falling off of my desk and onto my scanner My scanner is done for but the tower seemed fine - iTunes didn t skip a beat throughout My PC fell onto my scanner and now suffers from random shutdowns the split-second ordeal Upon its return to the desk the tower seemed fine Then about minutes later it shut down I waited and restarted it and it worked great for the rest of the evening I shut it down before going to bed Now this morning it ran CHKDSK on my Windows-installed drive C It deleted a few corrupt entries and then started normally I logged in and let it do its thing decided to just let it run and came back about minutes later and it was on the quot locked out quot screen I signed back in and everything was fine I opened up My Documents scrolled down and then boom - complete and utter shutdown I should point out that at some point during its construction I must have gotten a wire crossed because it will never ever stay turned off unless I turn the power supply off - if you just shut it down it will turn on after about seconds But this time it stays off And it actually takes about seconds to turn it back on Now I ve noticed that the shutdown only occurs when I try to run processes on it Leaving it idle will net no response but any attempt to open up a browser or program results in immediate shutdown I ve checked out everything with a mini mag light and I ve had to blow a lot of dust off it s really dirty I m lazy and haven t been cleaning it regularly There s also a fair amount of thermal paste on the chip and I m waiting to get some more thermal grease before cleaning it off So I think it could be one or more of three things the C disk is corrupt cracked loose my power supply is shorting or my chip is cracked I wouldn t think that thermal paste would be the complete answer but I imagine if it s heat-related that it has a hand in it Either way I m in need of help And if anyone knows why the never-stays-shut-down thing happens that d be swell too I should also add ASRock motherboard Intel chipset Western Digital blue caviar HDs can t remember the power supply offhand and currently running windows XP nbsp

A:My PC fell onto my scanner and now suffers from random shutdowns

If the CPU has sustained damage it wouldn't work at all.

I'm not really overly sure what the issue is, it sounds software related, but then I can't think of any process that would cause immediate shutdown of the PSU.

It could be heat related, but the computer would freeze from the CPU overheating under load and therefore thermally throttling down to reduce temperature. It wouldn't in my experience "order" the PSU to immediately cut all power, unless this is a safe guard through the motherboard I'm unaware of.

I would check the CPU cooler all the same. Does it still feel rigid on all 4 corners, or does the cooler frame now have play when you rock it side to side? Its possible the impact has dislodged one or more pins holding the cooler to the motherboard.

Hi I got a new system assembled in September this year Since the last two weeks there is a weird buzzing sound like that of a bee emanating from inside the system at random intervals It lasts for an intervals fan buzzing creates Computer at irritating random sound - seconds and then stops only to occur again Initially I ignored it Computer fan creates an irritating buzzing sound at random intervals But when it continued this way I opened up the CPU while the system was running Now there are two fans inside my CPU a big one mounted vertically at the back kind of like an exhaust fan and a smaller one screwed horizontally on a heat sink processor fan I suppose I discovered that the sound was emanating from the processor fan How did I know Well I waited for the buzzing sound to occur again and when it did I placed a finger on the center of the fan The fan stopped rotating and so did the buzzing sound The fan is screwed on to the heat sink Initially I thought that it might be due to friction fan rubbing against a rough surface So I unscrewed it and took a peek underneath But it seemed fine to me Then I cleaned the fan with a hair dryer It didn t have much of dust anyway as it s just months old I also used the hair dryer to clean the top of the heat sink then screwed the fan back on and started the system It was fine for a couple of minutes and then the buzzing sound materialized once again And this continues to occur at random intervals even now I have experienced noisy computers before and I do understand that it s normal for computers to be slightly noisy due to the cooling fans However this buzzing sound is something new to me Can anyone diagnose this problem and help me get rid of the buzzing sound It gets on my nerves especially at nights while I am surfing My system configuration is as below AMD Athlon II X Processor on MSI GMA-E motherboard with GB Corsair DDR RAM OS is Windows Ultimate Ed bit By the way I had enabled the quot AMD Cool n Quiet quot feature in my BIOS setup a long time ago I have tried disabling it But this did not stop the buzzing sound As this is a brand new system shouldn t the fan be running smoothly I do remember that the heat sink and fan were part of the AMD processor package kit nbsp

Hello, I'm new here.
Long story short, I have Verizon, they can't/won't help me.

I have a verizon 7500 modem/router, connected to my pc and xbox 360 (both wired).
I've been having random internet drops for about 3 weeks now. Verizon tried everything from lowering my speed to sending a tech guy out, nothing helped. All of their line tests say nothing is wrong, which obviously isn't the case.

Can anyone save me from this hell? It would be appreciated greatly.
I've attached my HJT log so take a look.
Thanks.

p.s. I have XP sp3.
My antivirus is Norton 360.
If any other info is needed, just tell me and I'll try and get it.

I purchased a computer back in from CyberPower PC before I knew how to built them myself It s been running practically flawless since purchase up until recently The problem occurring could definitely be due to age but thought I should throw it up on here for some assistance Over the past couple days my computer has been randomly turning itself off during game play like the system has been unplugged About three times in Aion and once so far in Bad Company I thought it was due to overheating or dust or whatnot - so I ve cleaned up all the dust internally and set it up on a table leaflet so that it isn t sitting on carpet anymore After I gave it a thorough cleaning it worked perfect for about a day and a half and just recently went out on me again After it goes out it won t allow me to attempt to boot it back up for at least minutes Could this be due to overheating still I have never had an overheating issue or due to my psu going bad or getting old Also was concerned about my cpu chip and if it was overheating I also made sure driver s were updated all around had been having some graphical errors and everything seems to work perfect At one point I had SLI d cards in my computer but one of them seems to have burnt out My computer will no longer recognize it and if I make it the top card in my mobo it will blue screen with graphical errors so I removed it Been working off at video during game Computer play turning random fine since it s been removed Compy stats listed below Running Windows Vista -bit Coolermaster Cosmos Sport Case EVGA NForce I mobo Intel Quad Core Q Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX VR GB PC DDR x Computer turning off at random during video game play EVGA GeForce GT GB x PCI-E used to be two now only have one GB Sata-II RPM mb black Sony x DVD RW Apevia Warlock Series w PSU Any suggestions would be extremely helpful It s driving me insane nbsp

I got a minor problem with my system. I highly doubt it is from the 9600GT card my friend give me. The symptom is: at random startup the screen will display artifacts, to be exact it actually looks like there are tiny glitters all over the screen randomly. and the display will shutoff intermittently.

always solved by a reboot. always. sometimes what i notice is, the fan is not as noisy as usual when startup, and the problem appear.

not a big deal, but getting quite irritating having to reboot to solve the problem. i've tried cleaning the card contact also of course clean the HSF and redo thermal gel.

anyone have any idea? and of course, drivers are 258.xx from nvidia web.

Core E6300 1.86, 3GB DDR2, 1000GB HDD, MSI 9600GT OC 512, LG L196WTQ 1440x900, AcBel 400W PSU.

P.S. never had any similar experience with my old 9500GT card.

It took me all day to figure it out but I finally got my printer to share from my PC to my Macbook...but the only problem now is that when I print from my Macbook my printer just prints out random strings - letters and numbers. It also will just constantly spew out these pages - it doesn't stop unless I cancel the print. Doesn't matter what I print. I read on another forum that it might be related to missing fonts, but I can't verify this. Any ideas?

I have an HP Photosmart All-in-One C4200 series printer.
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

Easiest thing to do is try being connected directly to the modem (bypass the router) or get another router and see if the same thing happens. I had this issue about a year ago, replaced my router and it's been solid since then.

So i decided to fire up my brothers computer that he hasnt used for about 2 years and keep running into the bsod with the error about nvlddmkm.sys for my graphics card, the monitor is also blurred as in the colors are distorted and random colors will blurr to the right or the left of where they should be. I can get it to bootup once i go into safe mode and delete the nvlddmkm.sys but when i try and install the latest driver and reboot the same problem and same error pops up. Any advice on how to fix this error? And I was hoping that by installing the newest driver properly that perhaps the blurry screen will clear up, is that just wishfull thinking or could the blurry screen actually be fixed? The computer is running vista 64 with 4g ram and 750w psu. Thanks for the help guys.

A:BSOD video card 8800gtx error: nvlddmkm.sys

as you can imagine nvlddmkm.sys is part of the driver installation so simply deleting it will either cause errors or blue screens. there are a number of things that could be causing this to happen, such as corrupted files, a bad power supply, or even the card itself. the first thing i would advise is to do a clean installation of the display drivers, which requires you to use a piece of software such as Driver Sweeper to completely purge the associated driver files. once this is done, you can restart the computer and proceed to install the drivers normally.

if this fails, you may be looking at corruption in Vista itself or possibly with the motherboard chipset drivers. there's also a slim chance that you need to update DirectX software or frameworks for graphics-based software. if it comes down to having to test the actual hardware, there are limited options. the best way would be to test the card in another computer (preferably one with a different OS) and to test the power supply and RAM if you can. is there any reason in particular that the computer hasn't been used for a couple of years? there's always a possibility that your brother knew to replace something and never did

A:Need help with overheating temps (causing random shutdowns)

Those cpu temps are strange, (2 of the 4 pages are reading negative values) so I wouldn't know whether to trust them.

I'd be suspecting the cpu fan, assuming those temps are trustable. I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than me will be around soon to confirm it though.

Temp 1 could well be your northbridge or southbridge on your motherboard. Its not your GPU, or drives, as they're listed seperately, as are your two CPU cores.

Are you certain all your fans are running OK?

A:Random PC shutdown

Well generally pc shutdowns are due to the power supply being faulty or general overheating.
As you have replaced the power supply there is a small chance that this is the cause. Again you have checked the connections to the motherboard and they are fine too.

The only thing I can suggest without further thought is to check the cpu temperature. This can be accessed in some bios configuration screens. Generally you can enter this screen using the f1, f2 or delete key.

The temperature will be under the power tab and it will probably show the motherboard temp as well as the cpu's. between < 35 is great 35-45 is ok anything over 45 is starting to run hot etc. *Note AMD chips do run a little hotter so take this into account*

What cpu fan do you have? is it connected with thermal paste?

The motherboard could have a faulty connection point I once experienced this except the computer was in permanent sleep mode rather than sporadic shut downs.

Hi everyone I m about at my wits and trouble on powering shutoffs Random end with this issue for a computer of mine and I can t figure out for the life of me what the issue Random shutoffs and trouble powering on is Here are the symptoms - If on the computer will randomly turn off will run anywhere from a few minutes to several hours at a time with no issues - If off the computer has trouble turning on eg hitting the power button often causes the fans to spin for a split second and sometimes the boot-sequence LED s begin their changes but it shuts off within - seconds no post no beep code errors though sometimes it will power on successfully - There are no warning messages from the mobo only the OS prompt saying quot Windows did not shut down properly quot if it managed to get to a booting booted Windows state so it seems like the computer doesn t realize it was screwing up - The machine will sometimes randomly power ON if it s currently off Here s what I ve done - I did manage to run a memTest which reported no errors - Tried a stripped down boot video card -stick of RAM swapped each of my and Mobo power with current PSU and a different one both produced this issue - Tried directly plugging the PSU into the wall instead of the power bar - Tried switching the power cord connecting the PSU to AC power - Tried removing the CMOS battery and replacing I have absolutely no idea what s causing this but it s driving me nuts Here are the system specs Intel Core Quad Q P Neo Mobo W Ultra Power Supply Nautilus Water Cooling Can t recall the Video Card specs but it s nothing spectacular more of a number crunching machine than a gaming one It should be mentioned that these issues mainly cropped up when I moved to a new PSU Case which is a Cooler Master HAF but I tested with the old PSU as mentioned above admittedly it only ran W The thing about the new case is that it has several more fans than the old one and while the transition took place I may have spilled a small amount of the coolant water mixture onto the video card a small amount of which dripped down onto the mobo However given that the machine has been capable of running for up to hours at a time since I don t know if this is really the cause of the problem If anyone has some ideas for what to try next or what could be the problem I d very much appreciate it nbsp

A:Random shut downs - dying CPU? MOBO? PSU?

If you can, go back to the way it was setup before you started overclocking and underclocking...
this problem can be one weak component, or using memory modules that are not matched or not the best for your machine...
I would make a log and keep track of what is going on when it fails... because it is difficult to track down... can be anything... hard drive, memory, CPU cooling, poor quality cables or connectors, too much or too little thermal paste...
The age of your computer is a clue that you need to start upgrading components anyway

So recently I purchased a Sapphire Vapor-X and it's been working great so far, but today when playing both Team Fortress 2 and GTA IV I suffered severe lag. Hello everyone,

I just bought some Hardware to build a new computer from Scratch.

I bought:

1. Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (DDR3 RAM DIMMS)
2. PSU Coolmax CUL-750B 750W
3. 2x2GB OCZ OCZ3G10664GK R (DDR3 RAM)
4. VGA Card - ASUS ENGTS250/DI/512MD3
5. Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz 1333

I installed Windows 7 x64bit OEM

I am having problems with BSOD (different ones not the same one every time)

I would like to know if its a compatibility Problem with My RAM and Motherboard or could it be something else. I am very bad with Hardware and I just bought parts that I knew could fit in theory.

BIOS is set to default because I don't know how to configure it (Probably thinking why did I buy parts instead of a built computer)

Could you please help?

A:Compatible RAM for Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (BSOD)

Your RAM isn't on Asus' memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List)-but that isn't to say that it's not supported.
Having your power supply checked might be an option if your graphics card seems to run slow or you are getting fluctuating performance.
Because OCZ memory modules lack what are called embedded XMP profiles, your motherboard will have difficulty assigning a setting for them so you will need to do it manually.
Download Memtest86+ from here http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
***under the Memtest86+ v4.00, select "Download -Pre-compiled bootable iso ", save and unzip if downloading the zip file then burn a BOOTABLE CD using ImgBurn or your usual burning software (Nero etc.).- this program runs at BIOS level
Download MemSet here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/MemSet.shtml
You can also download CPU-Z -it gives a much simplified version of the RAM timings but you can also access chipset and CPU info. download here http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

First order of business would be ascertain whether the RAM modules are not defective.
I presume the RAM in question is OCZ's Gold XTC modules - if they are then you can try to manually select the timings- they should be on a sticker on the side of the RAM, which should be 7-7-7-21 ( CAS (or CL)-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) at 1.5 to 1.6 volts.
IF THIS IS NOT YOUR RAM THEN GO NO FURTHER, If it is then you need to set it in order to test it for stability.
Boot into your BIOS. Select the second tab "A.I.Tweaker"
Set PCIE Frequency to 100 (if not already set)
Set DRAM Frequency to DDR3-1066 (if not already set)
Set DRAM Command rate to 2T (if not already set)
Set DRAM Timing Control to Manual
Note the string of timings following "Pri.Information" on the next line-they should be the same as the settings you are about to input.
Set CAS# Frequency to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# to CAS# Delay to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# Precharge to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# Active time to 21 DRAM Clocks
leave the rest of the timings on Auto for now and move down the page until you get to..
DRAM Voltage ....type in 1.60
Hit F10 to save and exit
**If you can boot into windows then run Memset (NOT the Memtest86+ cd you burned!) and note -or better still get a screen capture of the timings (and include in your next post)-here is an example of one of my old screenshots-take no notice of the values but note that both modules SPD (A and B )values are shown-so expand the window.

** If you cannot load Windows then get back to the BIOS and revert settings by choosing Restore Defaults, F10 to save and exit. The likely cause will be insufficient MCH (Northbridge) voltage.
If Memset shows you the correct values and voltage then you can move on to testing.
Reboot and select CD as your first bootable drive
Insert your Memtest86+ bootable cd into the drive
Hit F10 to save and exit
Memtest86+ will boot automatically once the motherboard POST's. As it's a DOS program it is fairly straightforward -The test actually comprises 8 seperate tests. Once all 8 have run then your RAM has completed a "Pass" -for 4Gb a Pass takes around 20-30 minutes.
Run 7 (minimum) to 12 passes. If the testing shows no errors then stop the test at your leisure.
Return to your BIOS, change the boot order back to Harddrive (I assume)
Take the CD out of the drive
F10 to save and exit -congratulations your RAM is stable. The next step would be to stress test the CPU/RAM fo test for stability- but one thing at a time

If the test throws up errors then note the Number of the test and the error code- the test will continue if the errors are not to great. If the testing serquence stops then stop the test, reboot, change boot order, remove cd and F10.
The RAM could fail from either physical damage it has suffered or the timing (and sub-timings) are unstable. We can look into that if the need arises.

Hey guys Well this is a new one for me Computer has started randomly shutting itself off on me I m really torn on whether I think it s a hardware problem or not though It seems to happen regardless of what the computer is doing Idling in windows it will eventually happen however I can quicken it by starting something like WoW or the SC beta Booting into safe mode it happens eventually again quickened by doing something such as running a virus scan However booting into BIOS doesn t seem to cause an issue I ve let it idle in there for about minutes or more While in BIOS the temps are all within ranges and lower and I have all default settings no OCing So I m really torn on this Could it be a PSU voltage problem that happens when the computer tries to draw more from the PSU CPU issue under heavy loads Bad driver somewhere seems unlikely but I m quite lost Specs as follows Windows Ultimate all updates current EVGA nForce i SLI mobo possibly outdated driver however this just started happening with no hardware or software changes Highly unlikely but on list of things shutoffs Random to Random shutoffs try BFG GTS current driver gigs patriot viper mem OCZ Random shutoffs PSU model Random shutoffs OCZGXS Seagate Barricuda HDD ASUS DL DVD burner Pioneer DL DVD burner I m sure I m forgetting something Any ideas guys Any tests or anything to try to narrow this down a bit that I m not thinking of Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Random shutoffs

Little update... Computer ran idle in windows for about 35 minutes... Hit the start menu and it shut off...

Would the start menu really hit the PSU hard enough to cause a freaking shutdown? Or could we be looking at a corrupt windows? Virus?

Hi About a week ago my system froze while playing a game it had never done this before during the years I ve had it and when I freezes Random tried to reboot there was dots going in symmetrical lines all over the motherboard and windows bootscreen not in bios and not on post It managed to boot in safemode I checked temperatures Random freezes and everything seemed normal After a couple restarts the dots disappeared and I could boot normally This problem have since come back a couple times a day Sometimes I can play for hours before it crash sometimes it crash almost immediately It seems to almost only crash in games but that can be because when the computer is on I ll probably be playing a game When this problem occurs it can always boot into safe mode can t boot normally and it always works to boot normally if I uninstall my graphics drivers first When it fails to boot it comes to the windows loading screen and then it dissapears and seems to freeze leaving only these dots going in symmetrical lines on the screen I ve tried cleaning away dust increasing fan speeds to try and ensure that it s not a temperature issue and I don t think it is I ve ran prime for hours on occasions without graphics drivers without crash or error I ve ran a hd test without errors I ve disconnected everything that doesn t need to be connected like cd player extra hdd etc My parts are Gainward GTX Gigabyte GA-X -DQ Intel Core Duo E xOCZ DDR PC gb Corsair W Windows Vista -bit The dots on screen and the fact it works without drivers safemode and seems to be stable in prime leads me to believe the graphics card is broken But I would like to hear what you guys think before I order a new one and if you have any ideas on what else it could be Thanks in advance nbsp

Hey everyone New to the forum and have a situation here I built a rig but the problem I am having is whenever I play certain games then shutdown power on Random back ie Prototype L D GRID the computer would most of the time in random places shut down completely as if someone held the power button and then about Random shutdown then power back on - seconds Random shutdown then power back on later power back up and do the normal load The thing is that it does the exact same thing when I change the RAM setting in BIOS I have the option on picking the speed and etc And when I change the RAM speed and click F to save and exit shuts down and then powers back up not a normal restart all the fans etc stop running And that only happens with the ram speed I can change ANYTHING else in the BIOS and that will not happen I did a memtest on the ram each stick separately and did about - passes on each no errors I am stumped I have been in contact with ASUS and so far no one was able to tell me anything My mobo is an ASUS P T WS Revolution and I am using CORSAIR XMS DDR SDRAM DDR PC full name CORSAIR XMS GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR X G C I would post a link but it won t let me need more posts lol It does that on some games but games like Crysis for example everything on high and no problem But on Prototype there is one specific area where it will shutdown few seconds before getting to it or a few seconds after In L D its random might not happen for a week might happen a few times an hour so ANY help would be much much appreciated nbsp

A:Random shutdown then power back on

What power supply do you have?

It's normal for motherboards to reboot after changing RAM settings, mine does.

The reason your machine may turn back on, is that it may be set to reboot after a power failure. If your power supply is shutting down because it's being overloaded, the motherboard sees that as power failure.

For the past month my internet seems to be randomly dropping out. After Reseting my modem, router, and adapter it would sometimes come back up.

I reset my router to Factory settings and re configured the whole thing.
I called my ISP and had them monitor my connection for drops.

They did not detect any drop so it has to be on my end. I usually have a Voip running. Either Ventrillo or Teamspeak. These are where i most regularly notice the disconnects.

I started uninstalling programs that i did not use anymore. I downloaded and reinstalled new drivers and had some success. Today however i started experiencing the disconnects again.

Its a realtek Ethernet adapter on a gigabyte board. GA-EP45T-UD3LR

I have ordered a new router to see if thats the issue. if not does anyone have any suggestions that i should try

thanks

hi , i have had this custom built PC for a few months now, i recently upgraded to 64 bit windows 7 to accompany my 6gb of ram, however a few days later my computer was randomly restarting , particulary when i have games loaded up. I checked the whole computer for over heating and the only piece i found was hot was the network controll chipset, everything else was not hot whatsoever, after searching windows update i found a driver update for the chipset and i installed it which stopped the random shutdowns , however i now experience really high ping spikes for a minute or so and my wireless adaptor for my mode m no longer seems to process the internet connection so i have to connect the modem straight into the computer to get any internet. PLease help me out here , i also checked core temperatures on the bios at loadup and they were perfectly fine.

Gooday all. No one is going to die if this question doesn't get answered, I am just curious. When I set my screen saver to display photos from "My Pics" I get the option for it to select which photos to display at random. So I have selected this option and sure enough away it goes and does just that, almost. I notice that some photos turn up more often than others and some I have never seen at all. I have had this on my machine in different guises for quite a long time and I am certain that some photos just never get shown. So, my question is. How in Hades does this random thingy work. Thanks in advance, James.

A:Random Photo Selection

Well it randomly picks up the picture it want to show for the time specified, now depending upon time and power settings (as if the PC is on idle for too long it may go into standby or turn off monitor screen etc.), if you allow to run it for longer periods of time you may notice some of those pictures show up.

I have a few laptops, a desktop and a xbox 360, sometimes the same 2 laptops and my 360 disconnect from the internet all at the same time but the desktop and other laptop don't and are fine, they all connect through wireless.

I have since bought a Wireless N USB adapter for my laptop and it will now not disconnect when the 360 and other laptop disconnect, so I'm not sure if there is some kind of hardware conflict or the wireless adapters are outdated and haven't had the latest firmware etc.

My router has the latest firmware and is some D-Link router, i can get the exact model number if you need but I'm just wondering why I get these random disconnections.

To manually resolve the problem I just restart the router and modem and everything works fine apart from lag on the xbox 360 in-game, however this has become rather an hassle.

Thanks.

A:Random Wireless disconnections

Hi

random disconnections can be caused by heavy router traffic from nearby routers, such as neighbors etc, try going into the config and changing the channel it works on, you may have to try several times before finding a stable link.

Also live on the xbox can flood the router, causing slowdowns and lockups, as can downloading via things like utorrent and other torrent programs,

So, I can't find my multimeter, but looking at my PSU it shows that I have 4 +12V rails and what they're designated to. The plugs for my PSU have the same indicators that are on the lable, such as pci-e 1 and pci-e 2. So I'm curious if those correlate to the rails or if that is just for ease of installation. Also, my graphics card has a 36 amperage requirement, and my 12V rails are rated at 18A, but since it's getting 2 it's ok? but one is possibly shared so it's bad? but it's worked for a year? please help

A:Bsod after replacing cpu

look on the box the CPU came in, or run CPU-z and see what the revision is. If it is an E0 you need BIOS F8D beta to run that CPU. At least that is what Gigabyte is showing for that CPU on the GA-X48-DQ6 mobo. I couldn't find a GA-X48-TDQ6 mobo listed on their site. Typo or wrong region possibly? Also check windows updates. There may be something for that CPU, or maybe you need more than SP1 on your OS? Your BSOD screen by the way is referencing a failure to read paged memory.

Have you checked the gpu temps, these can commonly cause crashes. Download something like evga precision and you can check the temps of the card.

How is the case airflow, the card doesnt cause a whole lot of heat, but if your case is cramped with not much airflow it can cause your system to constatly shutdown or crash as you call it.

Just got a gift from a friend. A Panasonic CF48E. Put a new HD in it, Installed WIN XP pro, and was happy... NO sound.. Looking at the Control panell, looks like the Multimedia Audio Controller has a ( ! ) in the yellow circle. Downloaded what seems to be the correct drivers for it, ir starts to install but mid installation I get the Blue SOD, that says portcls.sys, and it shuts down, and restarts the laptop real fast ( no time to read what the blue screen says..
Anyone see that problem before?
Any solutions? I read all kinds of suggestions, but none work.
Help please.

Hi,
Recently i suffer from BSOD on a daily basis. I can't put any finger on the reason, cause i see no rule. I suspect Outlook 2003 or AVG.
I have attached the the dump file. I dont know how to read it.
Please advise.

Tany

A:BSOD on XP SP3

What hardware or software did you install just prior to getting bsods?

Your current minidump shows "Stop 0xBE"

Which indicates that a driver attempted to write to read-only memory.

Possible Resolutions:

? A Stop 0xBE message might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.Click to expand...

Since you suspect AVG and since others have reported issues with AVG8, you may wish to try (Free products, available here)
Avira ... http://www.techspot.com/downloads/41-antivir-personal-edition.html
or Avast ... http://www.techspot.com/downloads/223-avast-home-edition.html

Because of reported security issues, I do not use Outlook, so others will need to assist you there.

Hello... I'm new here.

I was using my laptop and there were updates. So I installed them before shutting down... but after I checked up on it again, there was a BSOD. The error was Stop Error 000000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Somebody help me please. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747.

Thank you

Re: 0x50 errors

Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.

Possible Resolutions:

? If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace the hardware to determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run diagnostics software supplied by the hardware manufacturer to determine if the component has failed.

? Stop 0x50 messages can also occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If the file name is listed, you need to disable, remove, or roll back that driver. If not, disable the recently installed service or application to determine if this resolves the error. If this does not resolve the problem, contact the hardware manufacturer for updates. Using updated drivers and software is especially important for network interface cards, video adapters, backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools. If an updated driver is not available, attempt to use a driver from a similar device in the same family. For example, if printing to a Model 1100C printer causes Stop 0x50 errors, using a printer driver meant for a Model 1100A or Model 1000 might temporarily resolve the problem.Click to expand...

Can you boot to safe mode? (f8 after power up - and after bios password if enabled).
From safe mode, right click on my computer, click on properties, click on "hardware" tab, click on "device manager" button.
Check for yellow or red flags... roll back drivers these drivers if possible.

I would like for you to check for memory errors as well...
Use Memtest... See this tutorial... http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html

Since these errors can have many causes...
I would like for you also to go to the Virus and Malware board, and follow carefully the 8 steps.
See here http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic58138.html

Until we can get a stable system for you, you may need to download the tools to another computer, and then burn them to a cd for use on the Toshiba.

Hi

When I try to use winrar to unrar a compressed file or something like that, it appears de blue screen and I hear the sound of the hard disk powering down I think (it's the same noise that the hard drive makes when I turn off my computer)

This problem started few days ago when I installed Jdownloader but I don't thing that the problem is related to it.

History: a year ago I got 2 hard drives in raid 1 mode and they failed but the disks are ok. I think that failed the motherboard's raid controller or disk controller. I've got the same mother with a diferent hard disk for a year ago.

Please help!

thanks

i am having a little bit of an inconvenience with this pesky bsod error message it reads hardware malfunction call your hardware vendor for support NMI Parity check memory parity error the system has halted i have been skimming through forum threads from around of people having a similar problem but they all had dells and it occurred mostly in laptops i have got a heavily modded hp d small form factor desktop in fact the malfunction error hardware Bsod only thing i have that has anything to do with dell is my two monitors and a little CAT wired network Bsod hardware malfunction error pci adapter i installed a gig of ddr Kingston ram a agp video card and that dell net adapter all at the same time the problem started happening like a couple of weeks after that the old thread that i found is pages long and i haven t had time to read the whole thing i think it is that netcard but i dont want to open up my case take it out and the problem still occur so i wanted to know if anyone knew whether it is or isn t the problem b c like i said i upgraded other stuff at the same time thanks zach nbsp

A:Bsod hardware malfunction error

The parity check error is a likely pointer to defective (or poorly seated) memory,
Please run memtest... See this tutorial... http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html

Note that memtest should be allowed to run a minimum of 7 full passes. Each pass has eight tests of inclreasing complexity. This means that it will run a while. Allowing it to run overnight should give it enough time. Since it runs from its own environment, windows bsod will not be a problem. Any errors means you have one or more defective memory modules. If you find errors, you may wish to run Memtest on each module. If you bought the memory as a kit, you will likely need to RMA both modules.

Please also include some of your minidumps as attachments to your next post.
The name and model of your MB would also help. Some MB's are notoriously touchy about the ram that you use. If your Kingston ram is not on the MB maker's list for your board, this may be the problem.
