I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a wireless network composed of a desktop (to which the router is wired) and 2 laptops. All 3 run windows xp pro. The network worked great until I remodeled my computer room and moved the desktop and router from one wall to another. Now I have dead spots all over the house. The router is a netgear b. I even tried buying a new one, mimo, which was advertised to eliminate dead spots. It didn't help the problem, so I returned it. I tried purchasing long cables for the router, and moved it to various places in the room; again, no help. Any suggestions as to why this would happen? Thanks for the assistance.

I booted up and used my Dell XPS M140 laptop earlier this evening with no problem. I left it on and it went to screen saver for an hour or so, and when I sat down in front of the computer again, I noticed three small, black and blue horizontal-liney splotches in the upper corners and upper middle part of the screen. I've tried changing my desktop background and rebooting, but they won't go away. If I move my pointer underneath the blue part of the spots, I can still see it. Are these dead pixels? Do they happen that fast? If so, are they expensive to fix?

I recently discovered a vertical band where the touchscreen is half-dead in a vertical band.  If I draw horizontally quickly over the vertical band, it will draw over.  However, drawing vertically and drawing slowly horizontally over the dead area is not detected.  Refer to the picture where the white space is between the two orange lines.    I'm using my finger (touch input).  The screen is Wacom ready but I don't have a Wacom pen. Any suggestions?

It's hard to be sure without seeing it, but I am guessing that some of the fine wires in the digitizer are cracked.  Are you under warranty?

How old is ur computer for one? I would suggest just backing up anything you need from this computer and fdisk your hard drive and start fresh. If you computer has the specs...i would suggest goin to XP.....98 is way to old anymore and has too many vulnerabilities. Thats what i would suggest, it will take less time then finding out all the stupid missing IE errors and all that stuff.

I downloaded the wrong drivers and now thte mouse is dead. Cursor won't move. Have tried using safe mode, "reset to an earlier time", wondows repair and reloading drivers without going into set up.

A:Dead mouse!!!!

Drivers really should not effect whether or not the mouse will work, but you can boot to safe mode and uninstall the ones you just installed (though system restore should have taken care of the new driver issue).

I have a nearly new Belkin Mini Scroller Optical Mouse with USB connection which I am using with my HP 702EA Mini Note.

It keeps stopping and starting and its light going on and off. Sometimes re-inserting it in the USB port helps other times I get the message about a USB malfunction and Windows not recognising it. Sometimes it stops completely and just when I think it's died completely it springs into life again.
It's the same on my PC and is very wearing.

Can somebody please say if it's dying or is it something I'm doing to it?

My mouse is a USB wireless Microsoft, everything is lit up on it, new batteries and all but the computer is acting like it's not there.
I have a digital camera card reader plugged in which the computer is still detecting but plug-n-play (or that grey icon witht he green arrow..think they're the same) stopped showing up, something tells me thats all related. I'm on Windows ME and I'm at a loss for what to do. The mouse is detecting the computer, but the computer doesn't seem to be detecting the mouse.

PS: It came with a normal mouse jack for it, I tried that and still no reaction, help. (I'm currently using my numeric pad as a mouse)

Today my mouse just decided that the left-click wouldnt do anything. It happened after my computer launched and set up an Age of Empires game... and it was working perfectly fine before then. I tried rebooting, cleaning the mouse... still doesnt work. When i went into mouse options i changed the buttons around so i can now click normally with the right side, but the left side still doesnt work. Ive never had a mouse die before... do you think my mouse is dead???

Its a WiseTech USB Optical mouse... about 4 years old, and i have Windows XP. If someone could help me it would be muchly appreciated!

Its got big worn down patches on the clickers and is really old so i wouldnt be surprised if its gone.

O/S Windows XP Home Edition w SP2--This unit has PS2 ports for both the mouse & keyboard. I purchased both a new mouse & keyboard. The mouse is laser type with a USB to PS2 adapter plug and the keyboard has a PS2 connector. After installation, they both worked but soon the the mouse froze. I rebooted twice and the mouse remains frozen. Dead mouse or what?

A:Mouse Frozen or Dead

Plug the mouse in using it's USB plug and see if it works.

The only other way to test is to try a different mouse, or put your mouse into a different computer and test.

If you are using PS2, then the mouse must be plugged into the computer BEFORE you start the computer in order to be recognized. However, you can plug in a USB mouse anytime and it should be recognized if it is working ok.

A:Dead Mouse and Keyboard - help

Reset the Bios from the Motherboard

ie:

Power cord out
Hold in the ON button for 30 secs, dispersing internal power
Side cover off (who knows, some of the Dell's are hard to work this simple part out)
Take out (remove) the button battery (there's a small clip top side)
Locate the reset jumper, and move it to pins 2 and 3 (it's probably in pins 1 and 2 at the moment)
Wait 10 secs (no need really, but good time to rest )

Then put the jumper back (ie to pins 1 and 2)
Put the cmos round button battery back in
Put the power cord back in (and everything else)
Wha La :grinthumb

In a fit of stupidity, I bought Dead Space. After the first 10 mins I realised how awful it was, but as I paid good money for it I thought I may as well try and finish it. The problem in terms of actual gameplay is mouse movement. From the moment it loads, all mouse movement lags- I move the mouse and it takes 0.3-0.7 seconds for any onscreen reaction. This i sbad enough on the options screens, but in actual play it is intolerable. I dont get this problem anywhere else- all other games, apps etc work fine. Mouse is A Microsoft Razer Habu- as I said, if I exoit the game, its back to normal as far a sI can tell. Any ideas?

A:Dead space mouse issue

The review I read in the UK PC Format said that the mouse controls are quote "dog Sh*%".

Mouse lag seems to be built into the game according to them.
That's why I'll get it on the Xbox. I hate it when console games are ported badly to the PC.

Had a little search around. This *might* help:

With regards to the "buggy mouse movement, when I first started the game I noticed it big time in the menu system. After changing to my LCD's native resolution of 1680x1050 and turning off vsync, the mouse works perfectly fine. There is a very, very small perceptible amount of "lag" but I think it has more to do with the camera motion relative to your character than anything.

As I said, before changing resolutions and disabling vsync, the mouse problem was very apparent. After the changes, everything is basically normal. I've only played the game for about 5-10 minutes, so I don't have much to report in the gameplay department yet. So far I'm not sold on the "over the shoulder" perspective but I'm sure I'll get used to it.Click to expand...

Are there any lights on the Computer at all (or even fan startup on Power supply

Other than checking the power source (ie have you tripped your circuit breaker)
It sounds as though the power supply unit inside your PC has died

One last option unplug the power cable
hold the PC power button in for 20 secs

Replg the power cord (firmly) in
Restart (well try)

Hi

Wife reported dead mouse etc this morning.
Pressed start/stop button to reboot; chdsk came in, very slow, found 2 file index errors, which it fixed? (1 was config.xml file) and then it hung on reboot just before win login screen, with blank screen and centred mouse.
Pressed start/stop again and rebooted. Went through win login OK, desktop arrives, half way through startup keyboard and mouse go dead.
Tried different mouse, rebooted etc. same again.
Where do I go from here please?

A:Dead mouse and keyboard half way through startup

Run virus/malware programs.

Safe mode - Check your event logs!

Also, you can go into the Control Panel>System>Advanced - Click the Settings tab for performance and select "Adjust for best performance."

Hello all,

The problem started when I rebooted my computer to install some software to let me access the college's wi-fi. When my computer turned back on I had absolutely no control from the built in keyboard or mouse (I am using a lenovo x60s on Vista Ultimate with the red button mouse). The only way I am able to use my computer (which otherwise works just fine btw) is by plugging in an external mouse and keyboard into the USB. I have uninstalled all of my college's software so I don't think that is the problem. WHAT SHOULD I DO, MIDTERMS ARE COMING UP!!!!!

A:Keyboard And Mouse Dead!! College Student! Please Help!

Try uninstalling the mice and keyboards from Device manager and rebooting for re-detection.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook running XP Home SP2. It boots ok and windows starts ok to the desktop but then both the mouse and keyboard are dead. I've tried booting from the OS disk and the keyboard works fine using the recovery console. I've tried a safe boot, last good config option, a usb mouse and I have an HP docking station for this notebook using an Ir mouse and keyboard and they won't work either. I've read other similar posts here but no help from those solutions. If I have to reload the OS, I could use help on saving the data. Can you tell me what the default mouse and keyboard driver filenames are and the command line to expand them from the OS recovery disk? Any Suggestions?

Hello,
I lost access to my USB powered devices primarily my Keyboard and Mouse which has rendered my Dell PC unusable.
I get the Keyboard Failure message displayed on top of the screen right after the Dell logo gets displayed. I never get the option to hit the F2 Setup key because the sustem cannot detect a keyboard and mouse.
I will need to find out if there are any chances of recovery outside of replacing the motherboard on the system.
Thanks,

Have you tried using a different KB and mouse, if does not fix the issue, then it would seem that the motherboard has issues and requires replacing.

Hi Zodox
Please check if you have BSOD .dmp files. There are some users in this forum that are very good at analyzing them and tell what is happening. I would have guessed it is a driver problem (given the normal operation in safe mode), but you already said you updated them all. Have you used the Win7 x64 drivers?
Also, if you can load your system specs in your profile, that permits other users to accesss them directly, without having to refer to your Original Post. You can just click on "My system specs" on the left lower corner

A:Dead Keyboard and Mouse Immediately after installing PS3 PC controller driver

Why not use system restore to roll back your system to before you tried to install the PS3 controller drivers? It's pretty obvious that something went wrong with the install. I haven't looked lately but last time I checked there were no offical PS3 controller drivers. The one that is floating around is a hacked driver and results may vary. The Xbox 360 controller does have an offical driver from Microsoft.

I have a Dell 5100 which is approximately 2 years old. When I switch on the mains supply there is usually a brief activation ( sounds like hard disk or fans ) & when I subsequently press the button on the front of the case the system starts up. At the moment this is not happening. There is no light showing on the keyboard, the red light that shines out from the base of the mouse does not appear. The power light shows amber on the monitor and pressing the button furthest left results in message "In power save mode, press any key on keyboard or move mouse".
So far I have tried removing all connections & powering up. I have also checked for loose boards & connections inside the case. Any ideas? Is this most likely to be a hardware problem?

Hi all, my monitor has weird soits all over. They're transparentish and are in clustered groups scattered arround. They seem to be in two rows, some in one. They're multicolored:green, blue, purple and red. I have a LCD monitor, an LG L203WTX. My guess is that it has nothing to do with the monitor, because when I put my mouse over one, the mouse is uncorrupted. Everything else is though. My gfx card temp is ~135 F. We will be traveling for months here in the US and hope to use our laptop to pay bills. Are public Wi Fi spots safe, and if not, what can we use? Thanks.

A:Are public Wi Fi spots safe?

Clark,

Usually free wifi in businesses are safe, as they advertise it and allow you to use it (such as starbucks). Most other unsecured wifi is safe, but there is no way to be sure. However, I am sure if no one really wants you driving up and stealing their wifi bandwidth unless they agree to it first. You may just have to find businesses that allow it. They usually have passwords that you have to request.

I am sure it is safe to use more than 95% of all unsecured Wifi networks, but there is always a risk, just as there is always the risk of downloading a virus to your computer when using the internet.

Hello, 1 month ago I bought Lumia 950 and I have just noticed that there are some weird spots on the screen. (Not where the display or touch is)
They appeared on the edges of the glass and where the hole for microphone is and it looks like the protection coating is getting worn away.
Also to note, they are opposite of the grease stains, if the screen is clean you can only see it under specific angle, but if the screen is dirty you can distinguish the spots quite easily.
What shall I do?

Hello

my first post so please be patient and excuse my bad english

I have a cisco wireless DSL router that is connected to my ISP , unfortunately it does not cover my entire home and I need to add another wireless router.

However I am not sure how to do the configurations on the second one. I know it is going to be connected to the Cisco wap through UTP cable and that they both have to be on same SSID so that I dont get disconnected when i'm moving between the 2 ranges.

But what about the DHCP/DNS etc... setting on the 2nd hotspot ?

I don't know why the diagram won't rotate on imageshack , sorry

thanks!

A:Home Wifi with 2 Hot spots on same SSID

i think you are trying to setup the netgear as an access point, and the thing that you need is to access the netgear set the wireless setting and disable its DHCP capability.

Hello,
My Dell Inspiron One 2310 - All-in-One is showing black spots in lower region of the monitor.
Is there any fix for this?
Or Does the screen need to be changed? How much will it set me back by (in INR)?
For temporary fix, can is it possible to reduce the monitor display area?
Please help me out.
Thanks.

About months ago seemingly out of nowhere a black spot appeared on my screen I have had this laptop for about years with no problems until the spot showed up I presumed it was dead pixels but was and Spots White on Screen Lines unable to fix it myself The spot has now escalated into a huge white area with multiple blue and pink lines running both horizonatally and vertically I have to struggle with the screen just to keep it from constantly turning pink and or blue I've attached a photo of what my screen currently looks like put against a black background so you can better see the issue It's very frustrating that it keeps getting worse even though I'm being as careful as I possibly can White Spots and Lines on Screen with my computer This is my last ditch effort to see if there's possibly any solution to this problem before I just buy a new laptop altogether It seems like a better solution than having my LCD display replaced which I know is very expensive Thank you for any and all help

A:if My comp Spots Working at 50c is something faulty

if your comp is overclocked in any way, turn it off. you could try getting better cooling fans, take the side of your case and leave it off, get an external fan, etc.

I take my Windows 8 laptop to several boutiques that I'm building websites for and it's a bit of a pain to have to find the appropriate hot spot from the list shown at each store and enter the password for it. I'd like to just open the lid and have the laptop automatically connect to the right hotspot for this store.

Any way to do that?

Thanks

A:Connecting automatically to WiFi hot spots

That should be the default behavior as long as you're saving the password for the hotspot. I forget the exact wording, but there should be a setting on each connection like, "Connect automatically if in range".

First off lemme post a screen shot to show exactly what is the problem. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3310/testbe3.jpg

Its been like this for awhile and at first I just figured it was the graphics card overheating or something, but its been 2 months.

I have a ATI Radeon 9700 Mobile. I just noticed today that the spots are being drawn on the screen and arent just the result of flickering.

I've updated Drivers and all that stuff. When it first happened the screen looked like it has shattered with black and white lines going all over the place. That wasn't going away and so I rebooted, when it restarted the blue and yellow spots started appearing. They seam to change color depending on the color that its up against. Sometimes Blue, Sometimes Yellow, Sometimes Red.

Heres another example showing the different colors.

Any help/information would be appreciated.

A:Different Color Spots (Not monitor related)

Since that is not exactly a new card it could just be the card itself. Only way to test it is to try it in another system or replace it. Did the problem start after new drivers? Sometimes the newest drivers aren't the best for older cards.

hi all! ive recently got a problem with connecting to my wifi in my room. i can connect to the wifi from other places in the house but when i setup my pc in my room it wont connect, it shows the connection strength is excellent but when i try to connect it says unable to connect any help?

A:cant connect to wifi at certain spots of my house

kit, welcome to Sevenforums

If there is no problem anywhere else in the house except for your room, and numerous tests have shown again and again that this is a persistant problem, we cannot help you. We know only how to fix computer problems, and there is nothing here we can 'fix'. If you want to boost connectivity, get an "N" rated adapter and router.

It may claim to have full connectivity, but reality may give a different answer. sorry my friend

Hello: Last night I had to have help setting up a router. The service tech took control of my computer and accessed a file containing all the public wi fi spots I have visited. He started to delete them and gave up as the process took forever, he could only do one at a time. Where is this file and how can I access it to finish the deletions? Thank you in advance.

Yeah.... In your Netowrk and Sharing you'll find a list of recent wi-fi connections. Forget the one that you'ld liketo connect to, then reconnect, enter the password and check the box that says "Connect Automatically". I'm sure I'm getting alot of syntax wrong but, that's the general idea.

Running Windows XP SP2 on an ASUS motherboard (P4C800) with ATI All-In-Wonder 9800SE. Since a few days, I'm seeing yellow lines and rectangles on my screen. Strange thing: If you resize an open window, these yellow things disappear.
I remember someone telling a similar story, on other hardware, but can't remember the details.
Could this be hardware related?
I've already tried to install another driver, without success. Yellow lines etc. still appear.
Note that they do not show all the time. Very strange!

Thanks for any advice!

Koen

[edit] These yellow lines and rectangles are actually a kind of transparent layer which gives a yellowish look to some zones on the screen. Just to make things clear...

A:ATI AIW 9800SE shows yellow spots

Um, this is a really bad problem. I had a 9800 PRO 256MB die on me just a few days ago to a similar problem, it would do that every once in a while, and then go away. But just recently, I bought a new case and PSU, and luck should have it, all the letters during boot are rainbowed, and it doesn't go away, my card is dead, wont even boot anymore. I would first start off with a thorough inspection of the card itself, and the die. Using a picapole works well (what printers called a set magnifier) to see if the top of the die cracked, or corner chipped, like mine started to. look for your thermal cream running, hope it isnt, because that could cause it for the short term as well.

When it was doing in every once in a while, I reseated the card, and for the most part, it would go away on the first try, then it started progressing worse, until my new case and PSU, where it is just dead. I sure hope its not dead, but dont rule it out.

With the limited information, my first thought would be a driver problem.

Are your graphics drivers fully up to date?
