atikmdag.sys and ntoskrnl.exe repeating problem

Q: atikmdag.sys and ntoskrnl.exe repeating problem

Good day!

I am new to this community and my first community in this category. I am still learning computer troubleshooting techniques nowadays because we have a small net shop in our place and it is important that I have to manage this kind of problems. I recently have this redundant bsod on ntoskrnl.exe and atikmdag.sys. , even if i tried to apply some tips to solve this problem. I will enclose my event log so that my problems might be finally solved. By the way, I am from Philippines and our 6 computer sets were bought as package.
Specs:
cpu: A6-7400k
mobo: asus a68m-e
memory:  dynet/apotop 4gb ddr3 1600mhz

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I built a new computer about a month ago keeping the same hard drives case and DVD drive At first it wouldn t even start up but now it s just at the point where I get about blue screens per day Sometimes it s when I m in a game or Firefox but sometimes it s immediately after startup just on the desktop The most common are e and atikmdag sys atikmpag sys Ususally the screen has graphical corruption just before the BSoD I tried uninstalling Catalyst Control Center and reseating the GPU but it didn t help I tried getting Debugging Tools for Windows x but I really don t know what the information it provides means I ve attached all the mindumps from today I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic for passes on Extended and it showed no errors until I cancelled it at which point it said Windows failed to start 1e, BSoDs atikmdag, ntoskrnl and recommened Startup Repair When I logged in it gave an error message saying an ordinal could not be found Windows -bit SP AMD Phenom II X CPU GB DDR RAM ATI Radeon HD updated to W PSU MSI -G motherboard nbsp

A:BSoDs 1e, atikmdag, ntoskrnl

Here is the exact error that showed on startup after I ran the memory diagnostic:

regsvr32.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 344 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll.

Hi,

I have been getting BSOD only on idle for weeks now and it is driving me crazy. I have tried re installing the drivers for audio and graphics and any other suggestion I could find. Also I have re installed the OS. I am OC to 4.0GHZ but have also tried on stock 3.2GHZ and get the same issues.

This new atikmdag.sys I have not seen before but previously it was saying driver dxgmms or something similar. This crash dmp has now been deleted off my pc for some reason so I cant double check.

Any advice would be great as it is useless for what I want it to do if it wont stay on.

Thanks in advance !

Hi I've recently joined a technical support team and have been given a dell desktop optiplex that's had constant BSOD issues going back months I've been told the OS win has been reinstalled several times and the issues doesn't seem to go away Based on that I figured it must be a hardware issue I did a diagnostic test in the bios had the computer freeze up during the diagnostic and Dell sent a technician to ntoskrnl.exe and BSOD to related atikmdag.sys replace the motherboard as a tech mentioned the error code related to the motherboard Well the motherboards been replaced and I'm still getting BSODs The timing of the BSOD is random the computer will run anywhere from mins to a couple hours but the BSOD is pretty consistant I thought I BSOD related to ntoskrnl.exe and atikmdag.sys had it narrowed down to corrupt ATI drivers a couple days ago and reinstalled a redownloaded driver software from dells support page but again the BSOD is back The most common BSOD error code is x although I get several And running bluescreenview to check dmp files the most common drivers causing the BSODs are ntoskrnl exe and atikmdag sys Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Hi

to the Bleeping Computer forum

Please follow the below steps.

Test the system memory thoroughly using Memtest86+ .

Read this article first : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

You should run at least seven or more passes for an accurate result. I recommend running 10 passes. As it may take several hours to complete, it is better to run it overnight.

Following video will give you a better idea about the test.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Report whether it detects any errors during the test.

Upload the crash dumps for inspection.

Open C:\Windows\minidump folder and copy all the crash dump files to another temporary folder. Zip that folder and upload it to any free file hosting site.

For example :

http://www.mediafire.com/

https://www.box.com/

Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply  (or upload the result.txt with dump files)

Hi all,

I've been running this computer for about 2 months now. While playing some games or re-running WEI I get random BSODs. I ran CineBench and OCCT and have no errors with my GPU. I ran Memtest and my RAM checked out fine. My max temps for my CPU and GPU are 58C and for my 66C respectively. I have not overclocked yet, but was planning on doing so. I also ran the sfc /scannow command 3 times as an administrator.

I've removed the AMD Catalyst drivers using drive sweeper and reinstalled to 12.11 beta 4 with no success. It looks to be display drivers causing the problem, but I don't know what else to do.

My specs are:
CPU: i5 3570K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77x-UD3H
GPU: PowerColor PCS+ AX7870 2GBD5-2DHPP GHz Edition
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W
RAM: Pareema 8GB DDR3 1333
HD: Samsung 830 128Gb SSD

I've attached the BSOD dump below.

Hello there!

Seems like the crashes are random we have to do some troubleshooting. Update your SSD Firmware. Update the drivers older than 2009.

Run SFC Scannow : SFC /SCANNOW to Repair Windows 7 Files

For ATI check this thread STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

I'm at my wits end on this. For months now Ive been getting BSOD errors. Different kinds, mostly ntoskrnl.exe errors. Memory modules appear to be well, uninstalled avg as i heard it could cause problems, purchased avast yesterday and installed it. Did a repair install of windows 7 64-bit home premium edition. Worked perfectly well all day yesterday. Today it starts up and goes blue screen again. So frustrated, at this point I just want to know if I need a new computer or if this one is still salvageable. See attached for the dump files.

I'm using Windows X Ultimate updated with all security patches I started getting BSOD's about weeks ago I only got one about every days Now they occur - times a day BlueScreenView points to SCSIPORT sys atikmdag sys dxgkrnl sys netbt sys and ntoskrnl exe as the culprits I rolled my computer back to an image I made months ago and updated Windows with all the latest patches I then got more BSOD's a few hours later The latest one was caused by SCSIPORT sys according dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, ntoskrnl to BlueScreenView I read some reports on the net that atimdag sys and dxgkrnl sys are related to my graphics card I checked them in my system driver folder and the file properties said Microsoft on them so i'm not sure if my video card driver uses them I'm using an AMD Radeon HD video card I'm using the next to the latest version of Catalyst BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl Control Center for my video card If I update to the latest version then I have no audio on my Samsung TV when using an HDMI cord I tried trouble shooting it but was unsuccessful I ran a memory check at boot using Windows memory check feature BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl and it said no errors were found I also ran sfc scannow and no errors were found I'm not positive my video card is at fault so BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl I would be most grateful if someone more knowledgeable could have a look at the minidumps Maybe some other firmware on my machine also needs updated It's hard for me to says since a different drivers has been indicated with each BSOD I enclose all the minidumps I have so you could look at them if needed Thank you so much for you help Mike

Hello.

I am getting really tired of my computer crashing constantly. The main concerns are: ntoskrnl.exe, atikmdag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I have fresh installed four times, updated all of my drivers and DirectX, too. Nothing helped.

I have send my PC back to it's manufacturer 2 times, and they said it was fine. I have also run Windows Memory Diagnostics without any errors.

It happens randomly, even though what I am doing on my computer (work, games, surfing the interwebs etc.)

System specifications
AMD Phenom X6 II 1090T
AMD Radeon HD 6970
8GB DDR3 RAM (I don't know the frequency)
Windows 7 64-bit

What should I do?

Dumps attached,
Oliver.

Been getting a few BSODs over the past couple of days.

No particular time it happens, could be playing a game or browsing the net. I haven't changed any hardware and no software has been installed in this time.

Hope you guys can help, its driving me up the wall!

Hi, this started after i took out my MSI 5770 card and put in ASUS 7770, i just swapped nothing more, didnt think i would need to install new drivers, then this started and happens when im running a bot in diablo3.

ive tried uninstalling the driver, install the newest, install the beta driver, tried using driver sweeper to clean out everything AMD/ATI then install the beta drivers, but still it happens

yesterday i ran the game with the bot and it was fine so i thought i had fixed it with the driver sweeper, but when i woke up this morning the computer had BSOD.
so im coming here and see if i can do anything, thinking about formating the C: and reinstall w7

Hello from Belgium,

A friend keeps getting BSOD. Very random. One time while playing online games, sometimes when the computer is just on, others when surfing,...
I can't figure out what to do.

I've updated all the drivers with driver genius but the blue screens keep coming.

Attachements: 1 text file from BluescreenView and all the dump files in one rar file.

If anyone can help, thank you!

A:BSOD ntoskrnl, atikmdag, win32k, dxgmms, fltmgr,..

Other info:

I've allready tested the hardware with memtest86 and S&M stress test, no faults came out of it...

Hey all I put together my first computer a few weeks ago from parts I'd bought and things seemed to be going well until I incl: atikmdag, Unpredictable disappearing ntoskrnl and dumps BSOD, started experiencing multiple BSODs Having triple checked everything is all put Unpredictable BSOD, incl: atikmdag, ntoskrnl and disappearing dumps together right in the case and updated to the latest drivers via the manufacturers sites no beta firmwares mind just the stable stuff I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do I've also run memtest and Prime and passed both with seemingly flying colours I've tried numerous fresh installs including using other versions of windows to no avail A possible anomaly I've experienced quite a bit is that often after a restart I've noticed the files in my minidump folder often get deleted and replaced with a new culprit that said sometimes they stay there and I accrue a mass of them The common errors I see listed include ones pertaining to atikmdag I've tried clearing my drive of everything to do with ATI AMD using Driver Sweeper and reinstalling and ntoskrnl As of this post Windows Update says I'm up to date I'm hoping the experienced minds here can spot something obvious as I'm rather happy with my setup I just want it to be more stable My system particulars are listed in my profile and the necessary attachments can be grabbed below thanks in advance for taking time out of your day PS please note that at the time of running the tests I had security programs disabled but ordinarily I run MSE and Malwarebytes

You don't have all the necessary files attached. Please run the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app from the below link and upload the .rar file.

The dumps may be disappearing due to CCleaner. Make sure the option to sweep dumps is unchecked.

I'm trying to crossfire my two 7850s but I keep getting system service exception BSODs.
I've used DDU to install new drivers. Prior to using DDU and installing new drivers, both cards worked fine by themselves.
I did try overclocking before this, but I set the values back to the normal ones, yet I still have problems.

I used the tool in Safe Mode if that matters at all.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I solved the issue by uninstalling all of my overclocking software. I think the main cause of them was MSI Afterburner. I also moved my page file to another hard drive.

Msinfo32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter > Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post. Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

I heard that many of you keep itching your heads because of this problem; so am I. I've been having this kind of problem since I installed Vista. I like Vista very much, but it brings so much problems to me than XP. Ok, let's start with the issue. I often play Age of Empires III and in every 5 minutes it hangs for a short period of time. It hangs 2-3 times and the next thing that will happen is either it will show a black screen or hangs. Windows never responds if either of these happen, so I shut down the computer improperly. Is there really a solution for this kind of problem?

A:Atikmdag Problem, the unsolved case.

Additional info:
I accidentally installed a Nvidia driver when I'm finished installing Vista. Does this have anything to do with the problem?

Hey guys,

I have got a problem with my graphics card.
There was an update for my graphics card and I did not feel bad about updating this.
Since last midnight (after that update) then my computer freezes after couple of minutes (when I boot normaly) and I get a BSOD immediately. But when I uninstall those graphics card drivers or I reboot to safe then it's all fine.

I have uploaded a .zip file following your instructions.

Hi.
Just signed up hoping someone could give me some advice.
First of all here is a brief info of my system
e8400
gigabyte EP35-DS3R
hd4850
Vista home premium 64bit.

This is the symptom
Every once in a while, no matter what I do(gaming, listening music, wathing movie, etc.), the sound starts to repeat itself over and over. Also the system tends to respond little bit slower when this happens. Once this happens it persists until I restart the system.

I tried bios flashing, updating drivers(sound, inf, video, lan...you tell me), but the problem still there.
I constantly keep my eye on the temps so I know it doesn't have anything to do with overheating.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

A:Sound repeating problem

Do you have a sound card? If you do, it could be bad. This is a strange problem. Is your system new? Did you assemble it? If you have on board sound: that would possibly be a motherboard problem. Did this start happening right after you downloaded any applications? Have you looked at "event viewer" just after an incident to I.D. any problems. Have you used your Vista X64 installation disc and 'recovery console' ? Run a systems file check. (sfc scannow) Just some questions to consider. Good Luck.

I'm posting here as my PC has video on board.

Intel DH55HC mobo, Win 7 64.

My monitor has a greenish tint to it, so I used the Intel Graphics & Media control panel to increase a bit the red color.

However, frequently (but not always), after boot the greenish tint is back.
When I open the Intel control panel the red setting is there, I click OK and that's all to fix (as if Win had not stored the previous setting or deleted it).

Thanks for your help,

A:Repeating video problem

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...p+Board+DH55HC

There are a large number of updates available for your motherboard on the intel website. I would update both chipset and graphics drivers.

Also I see the board supports several video port types vga/dvi/hdmi
Which of those are you using?

Finally are we certain this is not a problem with your display?

I have an unusual problem and I can't find any answer on it anywhere Nothing even remotely the same A few days ago my PC started acting weird and I believe the cause involves keystrokes When I boot up and go to type my password in always the first keystroke it doesn't register and it seems the password box just keeps repeating an enter command over and over until I hit a second keystroke and it will stop and I can type normally The same goes with Firefox I open up Firefox and keystrokes Problem involving repeating always the first keystroke whether it's in the URL form Google Search etc will automatically be Problem involving repeating keystrokes 'searched' for repeating For example if Problem involving repeating keystrokes I went to type in Google in the address bar it would not register and instantly as soon as I hit the first quot w quot the Firefox search bar on the bottom opens up searching for quot w quot repeatedly Once I hit the second keystroke it will stop and I will be able to type normally again Usually this happens only the first time I open a new Firefox window every time though I haven't checked it out with other programs yet but I believe since it's doing the same thing in the Windows user screen and then also Firefox it has to be a problem not just to one program I checked Sticky Keys made sure they are off Ran all my anti-spyware malware programs Full scan in AVG No problems This started about days ago I haven't really installed anything other than a game and a few torrents And I uninstalled the game anyway Hopefully someone can understand or has seen this before and knows of a solution because I am stumped and getting very annoyed Also I have thought about doing a system restore back days which I don't mind but I am only seeing restore points from today when I uninstalled that game and updated AVG Other than that there is nothing a few days back And yes I checked off quot More Restore Points quot

Hello,
Lately, my computer has been popping up with BSODs. The most common one that it is churning out is a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. It will happen when doing anything, but mostly browsing.

I'm not completely sure about it, but my USB ports were acting strange the last few days. My iPod won't sync, even though the cord is recognized by the computer. But even with attempting to update the USB drivers, there is no update available and the problem persists...

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a way to stop repeating rows on each page in an Excel spreadsheet? I've set up my spreadsheet to repeat the first row on each page, but the final page only has footnotes, comments and instructions typed below the data cells. I don't need the header row on that final page as there's no "data" on that page. Is there a way to stop that?

I'm getting random Blue Screens and can't figure out why. I'm not running any hardcore programs. I'm mostly just using Microsoft Office and Firefox. The BSOD's seem to happen when I'm in Outlook, Excel or Firefox. Haven't been able to determine exactly which at the time as I'm moving back and forth between them quite often.

I've tried the SFC command and it didn't find anything. I used BlueScreenViewer but not a lot of help. All drivers for sound and video have been updated. I've also updated the firmware to the Crucial M4 SSD version 040H.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Alcohol 120% at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Next uninstall Virtual CloneDrive, as vclone.sys is as fatal as SPTD.sys, too.
After doing these two, report the situation back.

**************UPDATE 5 ****************

The sequence of events went as follows.
RAM test 1 pass was passed. Verifier.exe caused immediate BSOD on windows start when activated. Trying to hunt down drivers revealed any combo of 3 or more drivers gave BSOD at startup. Randomly decided to recheck RAM. Failed memtest after 27 minutes pass 1. Found one RAM stick that passed after one pass slot0. Got fed up of waiting for other slot's. Devised a plan to use verifier to check the RAM by seeing which combo's of RAM sticks gave BSOD on startup. All combo's passed. And now verifier does not give BSOD on any setting. Began to hate life. Cheered myself up with prospect of sleep. Put all 16 Gb RAM in properly and ran mentest for 18 hours, 6 passes. No error. Still no verifier.exe errors when enabled. Wrote this update.

If RAM failed after 27min one test, and then after swapping around a retest of 18 hours has no error, one would presume the RAM may be ok. Equally, I believe one could say the RAM is suspect. So, if the test is failed it really doesn't tell us anything except there is a problem somewhere. But we know there is a problem since we have BSOD!!! If I hadn't rerun the test I wouldn't question the RAM.

So the question is: how do I categorically ensure that a stick of RAM is good? Is memtest on RAM with an alternative working computer enough?

In summary:

I ran memtest for 18 hours, which was 6 passes. No problems detected. Using verifier.exe with protocols given on this forum I no longer get BSOD.

Currently my hypothesis is that the RAM was never seated correctly, or given that it takes a bit of force to insert correctly into motherboard, the flexing has at least temporarily defused whatever fault was causing my BSOD. Tenuous I know. But I really have no other explanation other than something somewhere on the motherboard or power is failing, or even the RAM.

   Information
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.
Code:

Code:

How to debug a system after you receive Stop Error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA)

follow those instuctions to find the faulty driver

or if your not familiar with the windows debugging software start from the ground up replacing every driver with ones from the manufacturers website ie motherboard chipset drivers graphics drivers even your keyboard drivers.

after this if it still blue screens come back and we can talk you through reinstalling ntoskrnl using windows repair console

A:Ntoskrnl.exe problem

A few things

Did you just buy it new from HP in January? I believe all their systems come with 1 year of phone support
You may not have the recovery disks but you should have a "recovery partition" on your hard drive. This is a special "hidden" area that contains everything you need to do a recovery
You can get alot of info (including instructions on how to use the recovery partition) on HP's website. Got to www.hp.com, click the button for Support, then enter your model number
You'll also find on HP's site instructions on how to create your own recovery disks from their recovery partition! You should do this once you get your machine working as the recovery partition is only useful if the problem you have doesn't affect the hard drive itself!

Hello !! Welcome to SF !!

I guess the problem is with L1E62x64.sys Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller. Remove the existing driver completely. Then disable automatic Driver installation Turn off Windows 7 Automatic Driver Installation | WindowsObserver.com then download the latest driver from Atheros Communications then install it.

A:ntoskrnl.exe problem help!

Serial keyboards (Round connectors) work better than USB ones. They've been around longer and usually don't require any special drivers to work. You could try purchasing a USB to serial converter. They look like tiny stubs with a female USB port in one end and a male serial port on the other, although I'm not fully sure this will fix your problem.

If the only way to get rid of the virus is a complete reinstall, obviously you need to completely reinstall your OS. Back up any data you can (Try booting from a Linux live CD. Ask a friend to burn one if you only have one computer.) and just start fresh.

It might also be possible to replace the infected ntoskrnl.exe file with the one on the disk using the recovery console, although I'm not sure how to do that.

Does anyone else here have any other ideas? I vaguely remember something about this virus and how to get rid of it another way but it's just not clicking in my mind for some reason...

I get this error when I boot my computer (Xp pro/ Dell 8100)

Windows NT could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
Winnt_root\System32\Ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I have read many discussions on the internet resolving this issue but they have not helped me. From the official windows support forum, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314477 it says to boot from the cd and use recovery console. I have a Windows XP cd but not a Windows XP Pro cd but was told that it does not make a difference. I set the boot sequence to load the Cd drive first but it does not work and go into the install mode. Any advice?

greetings
how much valuable data will be lost on a reinstall?

you can pull the drive out and use an adapter such as this to slave it on a working computer, to retrieve info.

good luck

When i booted my computer i got an error that said c:\system32\ntoskrnl.exe could not be found. I went into the setup(hiting del) and then in boot up options, or whatever its called. It said it was trying to boot from the floppy drive. I switched it back to the Hard Drive and no more problems. Hope if anywone else is having this problem this will be helpful.

What i really wanted to know if anyone knows what causes this. If its a virus or what?

Thanks for any ideas,

I'm working on my parents computer and they are randomly receiving BSODs. They tell me they usually receive them when browsing the internet and running several other programs at once. They are using a Dell Studio XPS 7100 running Windows Home Premium.

My guess is that the issue is driver related. The reason I think this is because I ran the driver verifier and it created a BSOD (this also created the last mini dump file in the attached files). The BSOD message said "A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. The faulty driver currently on the kernel stack must be replaced with a working version."

Would someone mind looking through the attached documents and letting me know if you see any problems?

The verified crash was related to C:\Program Files (x86)\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\KernExplorer64.sys

I would remove Ad-aware AT LEAST TO TEST

When I put my pc in sleep mode it often crashes: the screen goes normally in sleep mode, but the pc continues to stay awake for several minutes than BSOD & restart or BSOD & shut off.
Thanks to BlueScreenView I found what is seemingly the guilty process, but I don't know what to do now.

Hello aidanj,

I see you've tried to run ComboFix. As noted in the ComboFix Disclaimer, this tool should not be run without proper guidance. Also, as noted in our pre-posting topic:

Quote:

Why we don't ask you to run ComboFix from the onset

As stated by the author of ComboFix:

ComboFix is a very powerful tool which when improperly used may render your machine to a doorstop.

We first need to verify if there's any rootkits present and how they could affect our tools. DDS & GMER are preliminary scans. We use their logs to map our strategy for attack.

With these logs we can determine the infections present & decide whether to deploy ComboFix.

That being said, let's get this rootkit off your system. The success is totally dependent upon you properly disabling McAfee. Go into the Control Center and turn off every category you see listed there. There are several sections. Pay particular attention to finding 'when to restart the protection' - select 'Never' for now. You can re-enable it all when we're through.

If you can't figure out how to completely disable it, uninstall it and we'll reinstall it later.

Once you've properly disabled, or uninstalled McAfee, rename ComboFix.exe to aidanj.exe. Double click it to run it and post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.

Problem Devices

Problem devices can be found in your Device Manager. Search Device Manager in Start, and look for . Note that if the warning sign isn't there, select View on the top of the window, and end with Show hidden devices.

Code:
RapportEI64 ROOT\LEGACY_RAPPORTEI64\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Not sure which device this is, but maybe you have more knowledge about it. It's important to either get rid of it, or update its driver.

A:NTOSKRNL-HOOK Problem

Hi

Welcome to TSF

My name is Extremeboy (or EB for short), and I will be helping you with your log.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

If you do not make a reply in 5 days, we will need to close your topic.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools.
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
Old topics are closed after 3-5 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5-7 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here.

Install Recovery Console and Run ComboFix

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
Close any open windows, including this one.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Note:The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help youshould your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.

Post back with:
-Combofix log
-Description of any problem you still have

With Regards,
Extremeboy

You have a log posted In the HJT forum. >You should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I am trying to help my girlfriend get the NTOSKRNL-HOOK infection off of her computer. She said it was found while McAfee found the problem said it was deleted and ran it again and it still showed up. I have done a little research on this problem and understand there is a major corruption to the ?brain? portion of the computer. I would appreciate help with getting rid of this problem, which only seems to harm the computer while on the internet, but I still do not want this on her computer at all. Thanks in advance! - Josh

Two problems

1-Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads DuplexSecure - FAQ

when you're done you can use this Freeware in its place

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM
(MagicDisc)
Using MagicISO to create ISO image files
2-Kaspersky
I do notice Kaspersky which is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test.

Well.. Here it is..

I turn on my computer, ready for another typical day, when my computer makes this funny buzzing noise.. It sounded like a CD Drive thing.. This is on a 5-6 year old computer (eMachines T2895).. And I see this weird message saying: Windows could not start up because the following file is either missing or corrupt:

C:\System32/Ntoskrnl.exe.

Please install this file.

So I go to think..

And I decide to "reformat" my HDD. And guess what? My keyboard doesn't respond. It's the same one the computer came with.. Right now, i'm not sure what to do.. I need to fix this computer problem soon..

Anyone know how to fix this? Is there something up with my mouse or my keyboard?

OS: Windows XP Home SP2

A:ntoskrnl.exe boot up problem

It may help if we know a few things. Were you successful in reformating your HDD and reinstalling Windows? What type of Keyboard is it? USB or PS/2? Is it Wireless? It may help if you borrow a friends Keyboard and see if that works first. Then you can rule out wether or not it is the keyboard. If it is the keyboard you can just pick up a new one at your favorite computer retailer. They usually don't cost that much. Also, you might check to see if USB keyboard support is enabled in your BIOS if your keyboard is of the USB type. Note: most newer BIOS's don't have this setting. If it is a USB type keyboard then you can usually plug/unplug the keyboard in without shutting off your computer first. If it is the PS/2 type it is good practice to shutdown your computer first before you unplug or plug in the keyboard. If you don't do this, you could damage the keyboard and or keyboard port on the motherboard. In some older systems that don't protect against accidental removal/reinsertion while the PC is on, you could damage the motherboard all-together and will continue to get intermittent errors and problems until it finally just quits working or you replace the motherboard. This usually isn't a problem anymore because the PS/2 connectors and related problems are giving way to the USB type connectors now~a~days, although I still do see a few brand new motherboards sporting them. About your ntoskrnl.exe problem. You may want to think about checking to see if your drive is healthy before you do anything else.Click StartClick RunType compmgmt.msc in the box and click OK.In the left panel click on Disk ManagmentA list of all your drives should appear, check to see that the drive windows is installed on (usually C:) has the word Healthy (System) next to it. If it does, good. If it doesn't say healthy, something may be physically wrong with the drive and it will need to be replaced.Close the windowOpen My ComputerRight click on the drive that Windows is installed on (usually C:)Select PropertiesSelect the Tools TabUnder Error Checking click Check NowCheck both check boxes for 'Automatically Fix File System Errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'It should give you an error that the drive is locked and this cannot be performed at this timeIt will then ask you if you want to schedual this for the next time you start your computer. Click YesRestart your computerChkdsk should check your system drive at start up. It will be a blue screen and ask you to press any key to abort. Just let it do it's thing. Don't touch any key. After it's done which may take a while on larger drives, it will restart windows. Keep an eye on it and if it finds anything it will tell you. This could indicate a 'dying drive'.If you want to be absolutely sure, you can look in your device manager or on the physical hard drive for the manufacturer. Go to thier web site and find a tool to check your drives health. You may have to create a bootable disk to do this. If your drive checks out after that then your errors could be coming from Malware or shutting down your computer incorrectly.

Hi recently i bought a new PC from HP...
Since I bought it, the pc just reboots when a high graphic app is running. Also i get a BSOD message radomly even when i'm running low detail graphic apps. I expect that someone here can please help me with this problem. I've explored somethings and I think the problem is related to ntoskrnl.exe, just analizing most of the dump files. Of course, I am a newbie and I just know the basics of these things.
I attached all the information i got form my pc. I'm also new in this forum so if somethings is missing for you to know about the issue, please tell me.

Greetings

A:BSOD problem with a new PC: ntoskrnl.exe

Hello,

If I had to take a guess, I would guess that the hard drive is the problem. Try running SeaTools on it.

One dump blames Norton, so remove it according to these directions:

Norton Product Support | Installation and Uninstall

Also remove Avira, with this tool: http://dlpro.antivir.com/package/rem...l-win32-en.exe

Install Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

Finally, enable driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

...Summary of the dumps:

64 bit kernel running 32 bit driver? Has your audio worked properly since the new installation?

Was the driver an automatic installation through windows update? or did you get the chance to pick and choose?

Frequently, you can determine the cause of the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR bug check from the error status (Parameter 2). Some common status codes include the following:0xC000009A, or STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_RESOURCES, indicates a lack of nonpaged pool resources.

0xC000009C, or STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR, typically indicates bad blocks (sectors) on the hard disk.

0xC000009D, or STATUS_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED, indicates defective or loose cabling, termination, or that the controller does not see the hard disk.

0xC000016A, or STATUS_DISK_OPERATION_FAILED, indicates bad blocks (sectors) on the hard disk.

0xC0000185, or STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR, indicates improper termination or defective cabling on SCSI devices or that two devices are trying to use the same IRQ.

These status codes are the most common ones that have specific causes. For more information about other possible status codes that can be returned, see the Ntstatus.h file in the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK).

Another common cause of this error message is defective hardware or failing RAM.

A virus infection can also cause this bug check.

Resolution

Resolving a bad block problem: An I/O status code of 0xC000009C or 0xC000016A typically indicates that the data could not be read from the disk because of a bad block (sector). If you can restart the computer after the error, Autochk runs automatically and attempts to map the bad sector to prevent it from being used anymore.

If Autochk does not scan the hard disk for errors, you can manually start the disk scanner. Run Chkdsk /f /r on the system partition. You must restart the computer before the disk scan begins. If you cannot start the computer because of the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r.

Warning If your system partition is formatted with the FAT file system, the long file names that the Windows operating system uses might be damaged if you use Scandisk or another MS-DOS-based hard disk tool to verify the integrity of your hard disk from MS-DOS. Always use the version of Chkdsk that matches your version of Windows.

Resolving a defective hardware problem: If the I/O status is C0000185 and the paging file is on an SCSI disk, check the disk cabling and SCSI termination for problems.

Resolving a failing RAM problem: Run the hardware diagnostics that the system manufacturer supplies, especially the memory scanner. For more information about these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.

Check that all the adapter cards in the computer are properly seated. Use an ink eraser or an electrical contact treatment, available at electronics supply stores, to ensure adapter card contacts are clean.

Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help identify the devic... Read more

A:Constant ntoskrnl.exe BSOD problem

Most recent was related to your ATI video driver. I would re-install newest from here. AMD Support & Drivers

In addition I would update your asacpi.sys (yours 2004) the pre 2009 versions are known to cause BSOD's

Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Please visit this link: Asus tek computer inc. -support- drivers and download p7p55d le

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (not before).

I would remove sptd.sys (daemon tools)

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure
- Downloads DuplexSecure-Forum - Powered by vBulletin

when you're done you can use this Freeware:

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM (MagicDisc) in its place

Using MagicISO to create ISO image files

I would also remove Rapport

My problem started last night around 2 A.M. While playing a game I play very often. Ever since, my computer will have a BSOD every 5 min to an hour after each restart. I downloaded BlueScreenViewer and it says the problem is consistently ntoskrnl.exe and I don't know what to do. I attached the files asked in the sticky and would REALLY like some help. My computer is not even a year old and this is the first episode anything like this has happened to it. Please help.

I got the new Razer Deathadder 2013 (Razer tiamat 7.1 headset, and a Das keyboard also) and it has been working great, but I unplugged it and have been using my old mouse and haven't had a BSOD yet. I'm slightly hoping this is the issue but I would also like to use my mouse, if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Hi all,

I have recently discovered that my labtop stats having spike storms at random times that greatly slows down everything I'm working on. I have then ran xperf from windows performance tools to try and figure out whats causing it. The problem seems to be this Kiidleloop thing under ntoskrnl.exe thats causing it but I do not know how to fix it. So please if anyone could tell me how I solve this.

Just in case I've dumped the traces in a .txt file

Hello Recently I got a few bluescreens while playing World of Warcraft which I thought was very weird because all of my hardware is pretty new Here is some info about my computer Intel i - GHZ EVGA GTX SSC super superclocked - the fans are designed not to turn on until card reaches c gb Hyper X Fury ram tb WD Black HDD Windows OS At first I noticed three bluescreens then I used EVGA Precision X with a custom aggressive fan profile and BSOD ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 ntoskrnl.exe address the problem went away temporarily but then the computer crashed later on I'm not sure if that's relevant or not I ran a diagnostic on my harddrive and processor and both were fine The RAM seems more difficult to test because it said something about usb drives so I decied to stray away from that unless it was absolutely necessary and then get help from someone who BSOD ntoskrnl.exe address ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 knows what they're doing I am going to upload the dump files that were saved by bluescreenview Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION BSODs (0xf4) are usually related to an issue with the hard drive.

If you have an SSD, make sure that the firmware is upgraded.

If HDD, run SeaTools for DOS, LONG test - Hard Drive (HDD) Diagnostics - Sysnative Forums

I keep getting a BSOD (Critical_Object_Termination) but have no idea what is causing the issue. I tried in vain to debug my own minidump files but ended up getting nowhere.

So far i have run MemTest over the weekend with 107 passes. I also ran Prime95 64-bit for 4 hours on each of the FFT tests without error.

I have enabled driver verifier (following the guide on this site) and this has not caused anynew BSOD's.

I also get a random BSOD on startup but it has happened so infrequently i have been unable to boot with disable automatic restart on system failure enabled to capture the stop code.

I really could do with some expert advice please.

This is my first post so i apologise if i have missed something important but i have tried to read as much info as possible before posting.

Unusual one you got there think it may be a windows problem please run sf tool and upload all files not just dumps and try running an sfc scan
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker option 2

Check system temperatures also

Hi there,

Recently I've been getting BSOD while playing WoW. I'm not sure what details to give other than the dump so I'll just tell you about my computer:

Intel i5 4690 3.5-3.9 GHZ
EVGA GTX 970 SSC (super superclocked - the fans are designed not to turn on until card reaches 60c)
16gb Hyper X Fury ram
1tb WD Black HDD
Windows 7 OS

I noticed that I haven't crashed yet while EVGA Precision X is up (it has a custom aggressive fan curve I made). Maybe this has to do with the fact that it replaces fan drivers, or something? I don't know. I'm pretty clueless as to what's going on because all these parts are pretty new and it only recently started, but it's crashed three times today. Here are the dumps.
Any help you guys can give would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!

Any ideas? It happened again while using EVGA Precision.

Hi, I've been having this BSOD appear very randomly.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000a
(all reports in .rar file)

Sometimes within 1 hour, other times as long as 24hrs+. I've got my BIOS/Drivers up to date for my CPU, Graphics Card, and Motherboard. I've rigorously tested my memory and have never had any issues arise.

It has occurred during
3d gaming,
when the system has been idle,
also when browsing with firefox or ie.

Any help at all would be appreciated, I've struggled with this BSOD for years I would love to finally find whats causing it.

Thank you.

First lets start with asacpi.sys yours dated 2005
1-ASACPI.SYS

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Please visit this link: ASUS teK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.SYS file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these BSOD errors? It started with the +74200 error about a month ago (enduser is just now informing IT) and now it is the +73c40. I've already done several Memory tests to no avail. I'm about to just
reimage but don't want to if it's just a driver issue.

Thanks
