Random freezes requiring Hard Reboot

Q: Random freezes requiring Hard Reboot

As the title says, I'm experiencing random crashes in the form of freezing. No BSOD, no power down or reset, just an unrecoverable freeze.
The computer is a relatively new build (3-4 months old), and this has been happening the entire time.
This occurs during gaming, Installation of software, and various other instances.
Memtest showed nothing, so the RAM is probably fine.

Preferred Solution: Random freezes requiring Hard Reboot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, I have a PC that was custom built with all new hardware, and I'm getting hard freezes anywhere from once a day to once a month.
It happens while doing anything from watching a movie, to just browsing the web.

I replaced the PSU, flashed the Bios, reinstalled windows, changed the power settings, updated drivers but the problem still occurs.

Windows event viewer doesn't show anything that related to the crash except "previous system shutdown was unexpected".

I ran a stress and cpu test as well memtest all of those came up fine.
Since all the hardware is new not sure what to switch out first, or if I should reinstall windows again or change something in the bios.

I'm using a
Intel i7 3770k,
Intel graphics 4000,
Asus H61M-A Motherboard,
1 Crucial DDR3 Ram 8GB
Samsung Evo 840 SSD as primary drive,
Seagate 1TB HDD
Corsair 550 watt PSU

Any help is appreciated.

A:All new Hardware Custom build Freezes requiring hard reboot

Hello Avaava mate now you say you have swapped out most of the components just exactly have you not swapped out? I am assuming the board is new in which case (no pun) may have an issue.

Now just out of my curiosity could you do this as the PSU bought new might not be right and it would really eliminate for good that source of any problem.

Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
See this for the rail voltage info
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061.html (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
Use PART A: for the PSU (the pic is of my main deskie - Asus Ivy Bridge board so am guessing the section you will see will be Nuvoton) should you want to know the very fine detail of other stuff use PART B:

I seem to have a couple of common ones; one refers to attempting to write to a read-only memory area. Another talks about a clock interrupt. I stumbled on the jcgriff2 website with diagnostic tools and went through those steps and have three zip files with the results. I also updated drivers using Uniblue, and updated the Award BIOS, ran a memory check, and chkdsk.

I appreciate any help you guys can give. Since about Windows 95, I haven't really kept up on the technical side so much.

Thanks in advance.

This is not a blue screen crash. My laptop simply freezes and nothing works requiring a reboot.

One characteristic is that once the computer has been rebooted the problem won't occur again during the same day.

Further, I consistently use Hibernate rather than Shut Down, and this problem may not occur for several days if I hibernate it every night. Eventually it will freeze after being reopened from Hibernate.

However, if I do shut it down at night and boot it in the morning it always seems to freeze within the first 15 minutes of being booted. Again once rebooted it won't happen again until the next day.

I would appreciate any input someone can offer on this since it is annoying and time consuming.

Thanks,

Paul

A:Computer freezes requiring reboot

Sounds like an application on startup that's to blame to me. Have you tried using msconfig to help figure out the culprit (if there is a culprit)?

My system freezes several times a day requiring a reboot. My OS is XP SP2, fully AV'd and fire-walled with anti spyware software installed and updated, so the freezes are unlinked to any issue there I think.

Last software I installed was for a new wireless router and adapter which was compatible with my ADSL2+ broadband service (8MB), the previous wasn't.

The freezes can happen when I'm browsing the internet (which is mostly what I use the PC for) or even simply when left unattended.

I want to be able to try to identify what the source is before I attempt a complete software re-install of XP and everything else.

Is there a system log or something that XP keeps on my PC that someone here would be able decipher if I posted?

thanks in advance

Hi,

0x124 hardware stops. As you already know, that means hal.

Uninstall Avast, reboot, then use their removal tool to remove remnants. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too.
Make sure there is no overclocking. Monitor temps to ensure within spec, clean fans if necessary. Update bios to newest. Use CPU-Z to compare Memory tab to SPD tab, to see if memory is set well.

Update these if possible:

For the past couple of months my PC has had quite a few hangs which require hard reboots to get it working again.  Generally, but not always, this seems to happen when I am downloading a large file -- both through my browser and more frequently when using a download manager such as Jdownloader.

I have attached the sysnativefilecollection info.  Unfortunately Perfmon would not respond. The application just hung and was listed as not responding.

Info about my PC is below:

-- Windows 7 -- originally pre-installed
-- X64 operating system
-- Age of system: 7/2012
-- Age of OS: 2012
-- CPU: Intel Core i7-3770
-- Videocard: Nvidia GeForce GT 640
-- Motherboard: Dell OYJPT1
-- Power supply -- not sure how to determine this
-- System Manufacturer: Dell
-- Model Number: XPS 8500
-- Type: Desktop

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 - Frequent hangs requiring hard reboot

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

Hi

I seem to be having the same issue as another poster. My computer has been running very slowly for a while. Now it keeps freezing at random times and there is nothing I can do (right click to close, ctrl/alt/delete, etc)so I have to do a hard reboot. When I try to run scans it either freezes or completely turns my computer off. I have tried to run them in both normal and safe mode.

Any help would be appreciated and if you need any more information I will do my best to provide it.

Thank you

My computer will freeze at random times when playing games like Halo 2, STALKER, Crysis, Far Cry 2, and Caesar 4. I don't think it is a heat problem since it will happen at random times and my dad's comp, which also has the same specs doesn't freeze. So I was wondering if any of you could help me figure out what is wrong. Specs are right here.

A:Win 7 Home Premium x64 Randomly Freezes requiring hard boot

Have you Googled deeply into Samsung SSD issues? They have had several problems recently regarding firmware and their Magician software.

I don't own a Samsung, so did not pay a lot of attention to the details. I do know that sleep issues can be related to firmware.

Walk down these search results as a starting point:

Hello,

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my custom built PC. Since doing so I have random freezes that allow me to do nothing other than hard reset the computer. There is no particular time that it does it, and it has mostly been noticed while either on the desktop or using Firefox.

Attached you will find the files from the Seven Forums Diagnostics Tool.

The first parameter or argument has the value of 0x0, which is a Machine Check Exception, which means the CPU has detected a hardware problem and the address points to a processor error because the CPU has found one, so it could be a different form of hardware which is causing the issue.

We can see that the CPU detected a Timeout Error, but wasn't able to identify what caused the error.

In such a situation, it is best to use these steps:Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95
Enable "Round off checking" before the test (see first post below tutorial).
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
All the hardware seeming to be running stable and tests reporting no errors, could mean a bad motherboard.

Although these steps are not strictly related to the issue, these steps will help to avoid any BSODs in the future.

Hi all I've been having this problem for quite some time now I would say a year or more where my computer completely freezes up without any prompting It's quite frustrating to diagnose since it happens on such a random basis -there seems to be no trend as to what kind of programs I have running what kind of things I am using it for etc Sometimes it happens when I'm just browsing the net other times it happens when I just have some files up ie not memory intensive tasks -today it even happened when I put a USB stick in I am at a complete loss as to what might be the cause I have already deleted some old programs that I'm not using but that hasn't seemed to have done anything I've done a disk cleanup and run a scan for viruses The freeze can only be resolved with a hard restart which I know is not good for the computer I've already had to do this some or so times already I've attached the event viewer taken computer reset requiring Random freeze hard about - minutes after the last freeze I had the one when it froze after I put my USB stick in Any help or advice at all would be much appreciated

Did you substitute another power supply? Did you reseat all connectors?
Another thing -you say that you Flashed the BIOS and that produced a temporary fix. You might want to contact Asus about the issue based on this alone.

This particular problem has been driving me nuts for a few weeks now. I'll be happily browsing, usually in Chrome, when all of a sudden pages stop loading with the "Resolving Host..." message in the bottom left corner. The page will then never load and nor will any other, and I'll usually get the dinosaur pic with no internet connection message if I open new tabs. The connection itself doesn't go down as any downloads I may have going will continue as normal. I've tried every suggestion I could find online, from changing DNS server to Google, reinstalling network card, adobe flash, browser extensions, java, but none of it seems to make any difference. I may be able to browse for an hour or 5 minutes but the more I fiddle the worse it seems to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

A:Random "Resolving Host..." requiring reboot

sounds to me like your modem and router need a reset. Unplug both of them, then wait about a minute; the plug the modem back in and let it fully boot; then plug the router back in and let it boot fully. If its a all in one modem and router just unplug it, wait a minute or so then plug it back in to hopefully reset the connection.

Hi all, I've recently just got a BSOD after several freezes and reboots(mostly on startup) and hoped that someone could figure out the problem. I've done what someone suggested and cleared out some software but it seems that the problem still persists. I just requested a new motherboard from the manufacturer but I'd appreciate some expert opinion on this matter.

Hello Noirequiem.

It is caused by Atheros network adapter driver.

Hi there,

I have recently ( 9 days ago ) bought a new computer. Well , I bought computer parts and had them assembled at the shop. And ever since I've got it it's been having random freeze's that require me to reboot. I do not notice something particular in my actions when the computer freezes up.

I am sorry if this question was already posted but I thought posting this would be faster then going trough 100 forum pages looking for a thread that might exist. If it already exists a link with an answer would be fine for me thank you <3.

A:Computer is having random freezes that require reboot. Help !

Hello Diablotini

Freezing can have lots of causes
Overheating
Software incompatibility
Hardware incompatibility or incorrect device driver
Bad RAM
Video card problems
Dying power supply

You have to start checking all of these out. If you only bought the computer 9 days ago and it has always been freezing, I think you should take it back to the shop under warranty.

Hello. I bought a new computer and it freezes at random times. It happens 1-5 times / day and it's really annonying. It does not reboot, there is no BSOD, it just freezes.

Before reinstalling windows, it used to show some BSOD. I got just 1 BSOD after reinstalling windows. I attached some logs.

The 2 USB ports from the front of my case don't work as they are supposed to. I have to move stuff to make them work. I use the USB ports from the back of my pc case for that reason.

A:New Computer freezes at random times. No BSOD, no reboot.

The BSOD says .... disc error.

Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.
Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
It will open the "computer management" window.
Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
But, this part is interesting .... it is already pointed out in red.

Almost every day for the last week or two, I find the system requiring restarting to finish installing an update. I used to use Linux and it was very rare for an update to require restarting. Windows 10 has frozen my games on many occasions now because of this.

A:Why are there so many Win 10 updates requiring reboot?

You can schedule a restart for updates.

Win NT keeps freezing up and I have to reboot manually. Often I'm just moving the cursor and it freezes. When I turn the computer off, it's more likely to successfully turn on if I wait several minutes before pressing the on button. I've been defragging the hard drive, but after many times, it's still 54% fragmented. I've found that it always boots up in VGA mode and it's never hung when in that mode. Any ideas? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Have you run checkdisk and then defragged recently?

My situation: New HP Media Center PC with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
The problem: The PC freezes up completely at seemingly random intervals. I could be using a browser, trying to watch a DVD, checking my e-mail, working in Word or anything and the computer just stops responding. The keyboard and mouse are completely unresponsive and the only thing I can do is a hard reboot. There are no error messages or anything else to indicate what caused the lock-up. My USB ports still seem active (external hub lights remain on).  Because Vista is OEM supplied, I have to use HP tech support and I can't even get them to understand what the problem is, let alone make any useful suggestions as to how I might fix it.  I see from other threads here that other people have had similar problems. Has anyone managed ot figure out what's goin on and fix it?

A:Vista Freezes Up - Can Do Nothing But Hard Reboot

VISTA FREEZE PROBLEM SOLVED! I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I'll give all the steps I was given and what eventually worked.

Gateway customer service asked me to do the following:
-Run windows recovery utilities in right after BIOS loads (on a gateway, it's F8 right after starting the PC). This didn't solve my problem, but may help you. Most users propobly don't know those tools exist.
-We tried rolling back to an earlier recovery point... but we couldn't get it to work.
-As mentioned before, we pulled the memory out to ensure not static charge.
-Finally (this seems to be what did the trick), we went into MSCONFIG, deactivated everything, and I read each item to Gateway tech support, who told me what to check and what not to check (basically, anything with Microsoft, Intel, or our Virus Scan/Firewall programs were allowed to remain, everything else was deactivated). It now seems to work just fine! I've got to put in a good plug for Gateway's customer support... they really did help with this.

Hope this helps someone!

A:Random crashed, no BSOD, screen/sound freezes and reboot is required

This motherboard requires memory in pairs.  You cannot install 3 sticks.

Your memory should be installed in slots A1 and D2 this is probably your problem.

See page 23 of your manual for allowed memory configurations.

Hello

My computer has been randomly freezing over the last month. I would come in the morning and the screens wouldn't wake up from shut down mode (those are my power settings) but it got really bad last week when it happened about 5 times in an hour while I was using skype and while I was trying to move files around. Usually what happens is the whole computer just locks up. Today, I actually got a BSOD with the 116 error code. When I rebooted, it something about a BIOS error and had to rebuild it or something. I didn't write it down but once it was done, I rebooted and got back into windows.

I'm at wits end at this point. The fact it just seems to be escalating in frequency worries me. I haven't added any new hardware in years.

Thanks for much for the help!

Counterfeit installations such as yours can contain heavily modified code that can cause the installation to behave in unexpected ways. Analysing BSODs and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is completely unreliable, and for this reason most analysts won't attempt it.

My recommendation is to install a genuine copy of Windows 7. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing and make subsequent diagnosis of BSODs far more reliable. Once you are running a genuine Windows 7 installation and are still experiencing BSODs, upload your new logs we will be happy to help you solve them.

A:Random Stand By/ Hard reboot

Check your Power Options in Control Panel.

You don't state, but if your system is a Desktop, all Power Options should be set to Never. One possible exception is the Monitor, and you should set this only if you have the (IMHO) leaving your system on for long periods when not using it.

Also, some motherboards have a Power Sever (or some such option) in the BIOS Setup, this should be disabled.

Ok so I am going to try to explain this as thorougly as possible while trying not to sound like an idiot in requires Screen reboot randomly, hard Freezes the process Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot I am by no means computer savvy so anyone that has any advice will more than likely need to talk to me like a Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot th grader I am ok with Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot that Since installing a Windows Update about a month ago my screen will randomly lock up At times it will clear itself after a couple of seconds and state something to the effect that quot display driver amd has stopped working and recovered quot Other times it will stay frozen for about minutes and then will start functioning properly again More often than not though it will stay frozen indefinitely and require a hard reboot This happens during mundane activities No extreme gaming going on Generally it is while just browsing the net It tends to happen more often to my wife who uses it during the day to work through a VPN I don't believe there is any correlation though I have read multiple forums on the web and have tried several things from cleaning the registry to uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling it in safe mode The latter seemed to work last night but today my wife started having the same issue again I am attaching the file from the SF Diagnostic tool but it said I didn't have any dumps to log I'm sorry if that makes a suggestion more difficult Thank you in advance for any and all help I can get Brandon

A:Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot

See if you can get to the DMP's this way....

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Edit My PSU died so I assume sound Black requiring reboot loop and crash screen that was the cause of the issue this whole time a half functioning power supply This issue occurs whether I am gaming or not but gaming causes it Black screen and sound loop crash requiring reboot to occur more often In fact my pc crashed typing this post so I'm currently rewriting it all When I go to reboot the computer I notice CPU fans and top back are off I'm not sure if that means anything but yesterday I had to reseat my GPU ram etc to get my computer bootable due to this issue I'm not really sure what to do I've tried many things I've had this black screen issue for months now RAM is fine memtest doesn't detect any issues I have tried using only one of the ram sticks at a time as well I have tried reseating the GPU putting it into a different slot Newest GPU drivers Temps are good all under idle Tried Windows Windows HDD and SSD Making sure all the PSU cables are fully in their place along with every other cable in the PC Have taken out all of the PC parts out and rebuilt my PC Booted PC without CMOS battery Installed a mobo speaker and all is normal there I've tried using the other GPU video headers Furmark gets my GPU to c under maximum load My cpu I believe gets to c I can't find any memory dumps since it's not a BSOD But I could potentially be looking in the wrong places Event Viewer only tells me that the PC turned off unexpectedly I'm thinking of sending the GPU to MSI it's still good for warranty and all but I don't even know what exactly is causing this weird issue

HP Pavilion Elite HPE- t CTO Desktop PC HP M Monitor connected with HDMI cable Windows -bit I bought this pc from HP in It ran perfectly until i got a virus a few months Monitor signal install restart reboot loses during requiring after back and lost both hard drives due to corruption and had to start from scratch I had a local computer shop install new drives amp reinstall Windows as I am not that Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart computer savvy Everything is now up and running Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart fine with the exception of this issue In a nut shell the issue is whenever there is a delay in the pc rebooting due to software installation or windows update the Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart monitor will lose signal usually right after the windows starting screen but before the log-on screen appears clicking the mouse or keyboard does not bring back the signal and the monitor just goes to sleep I have to manually power the pc down at that point because i cannot see what it's doing Just pressing the power button once on the pc does not always power it off at this point Sometimes I even lose the montor signal after I log in and the desktop is loading for a few seconds the monitor will lose signal and go to sleep If it's a straight boot-up or restart with no configuration going on in the background it seems to be fine and i can log-in normally If I get into the desktop without losing signal then I never encounter any other signal loss or monitor issues until the next required reboot Another thing it has done randomly a few times is if I put the pc into sleep mode when i wake it the desktop will sometimes come up for a second and then the monitor will go black but unlike the issue at reboot when this happens the monitor still shows it has an active HDMI signal even though the screen is black Again nothing will bring back the signal and I am forced to manually power down the PC I took the pc back to the shop and they reflashed the Bios and confirmed the monitor and video drivers were up to date They said they did not encounter any of these issues while they had it for two weeks so i do not know what to think They suggested it may be a windows glitch that may be fixed with a future update but i don't think that's the case I was thinking of connecting the monitor with a DVI cable to see if that made any difference I really don't think it's a hardware issue but i am puzzled as to why the computer repair shop said they did not encounter this once unless they did not do anything that required a restart of the system I understand it is very difficult to diagnose issues that happen randomly The occurrence of this only after a software install or windows update requiring a delayed restart seems to be the only common symptom Thanks in advance for help

Well in this case i would recommend you to update the BIOS and the Video Drivers and that might resolve the issue for you.

so this started a few weeks ago with my Acer laptop it freezes at random intervals after start up reboot hang/random power hard off and sometimes after mins sometimes a few hours for a while i was convinced it was software related so i disabled startup items services restored as far as possible with no luck yet it would run in safe mode with no problems without reboot hang power off i then hard hang/random power off and reboot formatted the drive reinstalled windows and it still crashed prior to installing any drivers software connecting to wifi yet it still ran fine in safe mode i even dual booted with ubuntu and it does the same thing yet it still runs completely fine in windows safe mode with networking i ve run memtest overnight with no errors the laptop crashes with no battery in it when still running off mains and also when being powered by another charger same voltage different model but gives power i took the whole machine apart a while after the problems started to check for major dust clogs frayed cables etc i had replaced the cpu amp gpu thermal paste about a year ago which had required taking off the heatsink however while taking it apart this time the head of one of the screws on the heatsink was very worn and i couldn t take it off the rest of the internals looked fine but maybe that s because i wasn t really sure what to look for one thing i have noticed is that the BIOS settings don t save i ve enabled the f boot menu multiple times and yet after a few reboots it s back to disabled would this mean the cmos battery needs to be replaced would that be the cause of everything even though it runs fine in safe mode any suggestions would be greatly appreciated my specs are core duo t Ghz nvidia m gs mb gb ram kingston i think nbsp

Hi All,
With your help I was recently able to diagnose a faulty video card on my system that was causing a blank screen crash as soon as I logged into winodws. I've replaced the videocard, and now there's another problem - the machine randomly freezes. I've noticed it happening more often when i'm using the internet. It crashed as I was browsing with google chrome. Not quite sure if that was necessary for the crash, since it's what happens mostly on this machine. I've run a memory diagnostic and that came up clean. I've completely reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled Windows 7 x64, and downloaded all the necessary Windows Updates. The problem persists! I'm attaching a BSOD report, even though I'm not sure if It'll have any information regarding the freeze.

Thanks!

A:Random total freezing during internet use, needs hard reboot

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Quote:
Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
NOTE: For Vista, read these notes:

Quote:
Read these notes for installing Vista SP1: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Read these notes for installing Vista SP2: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)

5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.
If you're having difficulties with installing a Service Pack, please use the SURTool from this link: What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Also, check out this troubleshooting link from Microsoft: Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

Try other browsers to see if you can blame it on just one browswer - or on all of them.

I had originally posted this issue on this forum but it was moved to the "Am I infected? What do I do?" forum.  We ran ESET online scanner, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, AdwCleaner, and Junkware Removal Tool.  We deleted or disabled start up items and scheduled tasks but computer still freezes up.  Only a reboot gets it going again.  Task Manager shows "Disk"  stuck at 100%.  There is 40 gigs space left on the drive.  It was recommended that I start a new topic on this forum.  We did find a suspicious file ... conime.exe, but I could not locate it to submit it to www.virustotal.com for evaluation.  Not sure if it is important or not but the on-screen keyboard keeps popping up. Stays gone for a while after closing but pops up again after a few minutes or whenever I open a different app. I ran FRST.  The files are attached.

Starting a few days ago When ever i booted my PC after about 3-5 minutes on it would freeze. After hard reboot I would either get BSOD or the monitor wouldn't work. I've ran a full scan with both avast and malwarebytes and I'm not infected. I'm running memtest now, 6 passes and no errors.

Memtest finished 7 passes not 1 error.. restarted system was fine til earlier when i got home.. turned on PC and few mins in it froze again. had to hard reboot a few times didn't get any BSOD this time.

I'm unsure if this is a virus or some sort of problem with parts of my computer. My pc is locking up at random intervals and requires a hard reboot. I have ran a recent scan on mbam and it found a pup crossfire virus. I'm hoping the issue can be resolved easily instead of having to buy a new pc or new parts.

Hello For the last couple months my PC has been having an issue where the screen randomly freezes and the last sounds that were playing loop and then stop This can happen while playing a game be it Hearthstone Batman Arkham City any game Can also happen when using any web based flash like YouTube Twitch etc But I have also had freezes about a minute after logging on without even doing any of the above CPU temperatures right before freeze appear normal and the fans stay at about the same speeds when screen no - BSOD Black System Reboot Hard Freeze, Random on freeze happens at least I don't hear them spinning up I am forced to do a hard reboot but it takes a few tries to get the PC to boot because the monitor simply acts like it doesn't detect any video signal upon reboot I can hear Windows do its boot up sounds Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot but nothing on Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot screen I have a feeling Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot this might be multiple problems linked together I included a zip of my computer's SF Diangostic Tool report Thanks for taking a look at this problem all help is welcome and appreciated

A:Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot

That definitely sounds like a graphics driver related issue, if not then a hardware failure in your GPU. I would recommend updating your graphics driver by booting into safe mode (F8 on startup).
Uninstall the current ones via the control panel.
Let us know the results.

Randomly, about 1-2 times per 24 hours, my computer will lock up to the point that nothing but the power button will unfreeze it. The screen shows whatever was on it when it locked up, and keyboard/mouse input does not work. The reset button will sometimes work, but most of the time, it will reset the computer, but the monitor won't get any input when it tries to restart.

same problem under XP and Vista ---> hence 99% sure its a hardware issue
temps are fine
ran memtest through 7 passes, no problems
done several cpu tests, no problems
hard drives check out fine (xp and vista are on different hard drives anyway)

PC randomly freezes 4-5 times per week, requiring power-off reboot.  Happens in Windows 8 and two different versions of Linux.  Tried booting from Linux live DVD OS with same results.  Ran all diagnostic tests several time with no problems found, except it locked up during one series of testing.  Problem seems worse when accessing the internet.

A:random freezes, hard restarts

First off, a computer that young exhibiting freezes or crashes means definitely that the hardware in the computer is failing. Unless you managed to install some crazy software from the very first day, it means you got a bad PC and you need to send it in for a replacement. Sometimes bad hardware slips through the manufacturing tests looking ok, but end up being a pain later on to the consumer.

I have an Alienware 17 laptop. I just upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago. Everything was working fine until i started getting random blue screens. Then my laptop just would randomly freeze up, leaving me unable to control the mouse or keyboard. I have to hard restart. When i check the Windows error report, I see that there are multiple instances of "Hard Drive Failure." The only thing i know about this is that it only started happening with Windows 10. I would also like to keep Windows 10.

Hello Solved: Random Freezes Hard all I hope someone will have some advice for an issue Solved: Random Hard Freezes I ve been having I recently built a computer with these components AMD Athlon II X Regor GHz Socket AM W BIOSTAR VA NH -B Radeon HD MB -bit DDR PCI Express ASRock M A DE AM AMD ATX AMD Motherboard G SKILL GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC w power supply included with this case http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E It runs extremely well exception for one thing it locks up entirely on a fairly frequent basis When it freezes the image is static on the monitors I m using two the mouse does not react sound stops and generally nothing happens except perhaps some hard drive activity I have to hold down the power button to restart which is getting old and I m worried I will damage the system I ve updated all the drivers checked the capacitors for leaks changed various BIOS settings and checked for overheating but everything seems fine There are no helpful event errors that I ve found Everything seems plugged in correctly on the motherboard The only interesting thing I ve noticed is that the hard drive seems to churn for a few seconds following a freeze but there are no errors on reboot The freezes are random Sometimes my system will freeze right off a reboot Sometimes I will play a game for hours without issue then it will freeze while just sitting at the desktop I can t figure out any pattern I suspect the graphics card due to the way it s locking up but I m worried it could be the motherboard as well Is there any way to tell why this is happening Has anyone dealt with similar issues Thanks nbsp

A:Solved: Random Hard Freezes

Good news--I believe I have fixed the problem.

Bad news--I'm almost certain it was the motherboard.

The freezing progressively became worse, until it reached the point where one day the computer would not boot at all. Strangely, if the computer was laying on its side, horizontally, it would boot. But, it would freeze within a few minutes, so that was no solution.

I'm convinced that the problem existed the entire time I had the board. I remember getting "stuck" on an installation screen at one point. I bet that was a freeze. I also remember being concerned about a freeze within the first few hours of running in Windows. But, since the problem was intermittent and I didn't know what caused it, I unfortunately kept it until it was out of the 30-day Newegg return policy.

However, I've replaced it with a new board, the same model, and it runs perfectly. Replacing it was simple too, I just had to reconfigure BIOS settings. I still wince every time I cant see the mouse move, having had it freeze on me so many times, but I think I will get over that soon. My fingers are crossed that the system stays stable.

I think is something about memory remap or something like that.

Thank you!

PAE doesn't exist on 64-bit Windows - it's purely a 32-bit mechanism.

I'd suggest not jumping to conclusions about the cause of your freeze. The fact that you had memory visibility issues doesn't automatically mean that the freeze has anything to do with that.

If you boot the machine to safe mode and leave it running there for a while, does it still lock up?

Also, what is the extent of the lockup? Can you move the mouse? Get something on screen to blink? Do you hear any HDD activity at all? Does the machine do anything except display a static image and keep the fans running?

A:Windows Explorer Freezes requiring relaunch - Lenovo X230

Windows 8 does not play nice with older hardware, especially older Intel hardware. You did not post if you are using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 8.1. Intel does have updated drivers for that GPU. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...01&FamilyId=39

Try the latest drivers and see if that works. As for changing the motherboard. You would not be able to do so with a Laptop. Since they are specific to the case.

This has been occurring for months now hard crashing, PC reset. requiring It is EXTREMELY PC crashing, requiring hard reset. annoying especially if I am in the middle of something very important The mouse cursor will lock everything will freeze and this will usually be followed by any sound repeating buzzing freezing From here it is a complete freeze The only way to get out of this is to restart my computer Now another surprising thing is that usually I need to push my reset button in PC crashing, requiring hard reset. all the way for my PC to reset I suppose this is so you don't bump the button When the crash occurs I only have to slightly touch the reset button for my PC to completely shut down Strange Upon first glance I suspected this to be my power supply however now I am not sure it could really be any other component I am fairly confident that this is hardware related but not sure what is causing these crashes Nothing seems to quot trigger quot the crashes It can happen whilst watching videos playing games browsing the web or simply idling Any help would be appreciated thanks

Please provide full specs of your PC including PSU make/model/wattage so we know what we're looking at. Could quite possibly be a PSU problem, but we need all your other hardware info too (CPU, Motherboard, RAM etc).

Is the PC pre-built or custom built?

Hello yoongooI would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with one of these just skip it and move on to the next one.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Scan. After the scan is complete click on "Clean"Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.-Junkware-Removal-Tool-Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.Gringo

I've been having a pretty weird problem that started about a month or two ago and happens anywhere from once a week to once every other day No software was installed around when this started happening and no hardware changes were made in the preceding months either I've had this machine for about years Every program will become slow and or unresponsive and Win shutdown, becomes requiring hard changes unresponsive recent no if I can manage to close any of them Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes the item text will vanish from the taskbar but the quot icon quot will still remain Here's a picture to illustrate https i imgur com GoY UBN jpg No matter how long I wait it will not go away and no programs remaining open will start to respond Additionally I cannot start any application Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes - an application I try to start will appear in Task Manager I always have it running so I didn't have a need to open that thankfully but only using a very small amount of RAM No matter how long I wait it will never use more than like kbish of RAM I can close some applications using the task manager But sometimes if I try to end a process it will ask me quot Are you sure quot and then will proceed to not close it or close it so it quot vanishes quot from the taskbar like in the picture Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes and the task manager and the taskbar freeze Sometimes they freeze independent of me doing that Trying to restart via the start menu does not work No matter how long I wait no applications will close and nothing will change Things I have tried without success -sfc scannow -Malwarebytes -avast antivirus -Hard drive change I recently cloned and replaced my C drive with another drive but this problem predated that change by about weeks and has persisted with the drive change There are also no consistent triggers I have left the computer on for a few days when I go out of town and find my messenger windows seem to be up and running but actually turned unresponsive and stopped receiving messages after I was out of town for a day or two with no indication anything was wrong Messages I typed and sent after this quot silence quot were never received by the other party and checking the message history via an external interface after a reboot confirms there was more I did not receive and the messages I tried sending went into the ether Additionally Steam was unable to connect to the Internet so it seems whatever problem this is also impacts Internet access The only thing I can think of that MIGHT be related to this is I don't want Windows and have chosen to hide some updates related to that but might have missed some I've never accepted any of the install prompts and have them hidden I've built my past two computers and consider myself pretty savvy but I've never seen anything like this and have no clue how I would even search for it to see if others have had it I should also note there were a few times when after logging into Windows the network connection refused to work A reboot or two later it would work with no problem This has not happened for a while and could have been me being impatient but thought it worth mentioning Waiting on programs to respond or the machine to restart via the start menu has meant me waiting hours though so that unresponsiveness is definitely not my imagination Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place Please let me know any information you'd need Thank you

A:Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes

Hello oddprob,

A few more things to try:

1. Possibly a corrupt user account. Could create a new account and see if the issue persists.

2. Check Device Manager for Driver issues. Once there, be sue to click on "View" then "Show Hidden Devices."

3. May still be Malware related. You could post in our "System Security Forum" for help. http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/

4. Run CHKDSK.

5. Run Clean Boot

Hope this helps,
John

Hello, I was hoping maybe somebody could help me with this laptop. The issue I'm having is most of the time when I walk away from it and leave it on, upon returning the screen is just black, the computer is running but there is no response on the keyboard or mouse, which requires a hard shutdown and a restart. It then says it was not shut down properly, I start it up, and it runs fine until the next time I walk away and it does this freeze thing. I also want to note that it does not always do this, sometimes it sleeps like it should, but the problem is increasing in frequency.

I'm on windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit with Vista originally on Laptop. Im on an Asus G71GX-RX05 laptop purchased about 3 years ago. I installed windows 7 with disc provided about 2 years ago. Here are the specs for my laptop.

My issue is that whenever I'm watching Netflix streaming or youtube streaming my computer will freeze completely on the screen that its on. No other screen pops up. It only occurs with streaming websites. I can play PC games fine and browse the internet. Sometimes a weird buzzing noise comes out of the speakers while it is freezing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Slayer41

A:Freeze during online video streaming requiring hard reset.

Hello,

I'm still not sure what you mean by "freeze". If the video freezes inside a perfectly normal browser window while it "buffers" due to a slow internet connection. If the browser itself freezes so that it won't respond to your input, that is more complicated and may or may not be helped by a reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset...

Sysesc

I had several months ago loaded quot Card Mahjongg amp Solitaire Games quot on my wife s laptop a Compaq running Windows Vista Over the Thanksgiving holiday I loaded another purchased same game on my brother-in-law s Disc Games Requiring/Not Run Requiring to laptop computer Both computers are the same Compaq model running Win Vista I also loaded another hunting game on his computer Both games require disc insertion to run the games on my brother-in-law s laptop computer My wife s laptop does not require disc insertion to run the game loaded on it Therefore Games Requiring/Not Requiring Disc to Run I Games Requiring/Not Requiring Disc to Run would conclude that there is something associated with some setting s of my brother-in-law s computer that is requiring the disc to run the game The games were identically loaded not using any quot custom quot settings I did not have time to do any quot search quot for various settings on his computer versus my wife s computer We are many hundreds of miles apart and he and his wife are just beginning to become computer literate Does anyone have any idea s that could be of help in this situation I had seen a prior thread where it seemed to indicate that this should not happen when running similar systems at least I inferred that from the responses Thanks in advance for any help nbsp

A:Games Requiring/Not Requiring Disc to Run

While installing the game to the other computer, you propably chose some "compact" installation method, and therefore it has to load videos/sound/some other material from the disc, because it wasn't installed on the hard drive. I'd try reinstalling the game and choosing the full installation.

I have two copies of Windows 7. One is installed to C:\ - One is installed to D:\

They were both intended to be separate installations, due to a hard drive failure with C:\ .. (and Pre-startup reflects two different versions of Windows 7 to load, of which I have to choose the first one (D:\).

I've attempted to remove the C: from inside my tower, but when I do, D: will not boot up.

I am not understanding why this is happening. I have a new hard drive to use in place of C:, but my BIOS is not liking that I removed it, even though, it's not even supposed to be in use.

I need to get Windows 7 installed to my new Hard Drive, but removing the C: won't even allow me to boot the D: .. I'm using SATA connections for the hard drives.

So one of my friends is running Vista -bit with her DXdiag attached I also have attached her Windows today a more recent Dxdiag Her computer was fine about two months ago and shes had it for months Then these quot freezes lockups quot started randomly throughout the day She'll be gaming or just browsing the internet with a few AIM MSN windows opened random programs will lock up and freeze while others stay perfectly functional Windows seldom freezes along with the programs but it does happen occasionally where she can't use task manager and the windows button is forced to freeze for about - minutes She hasn't had freezes above ish minutes because she manually shuts down her computer about that time Sometimes when she freezes she gets past bios and while windows was loading it sent her to a black screen that didn't load anything She had to keep restarting a couple of times and waiting ish minutes and eventually her windows loaded up She says this doesn't usually happen either She wiped about a month ago and it didn't really do anything At all She did a clean format reinstall of windows and these freezes - Freezes Formatted/Flashed/Memtested..- still freezes Program/Window persists Random still happen with the same occurrence rate severity duration I also have the event viewer logs of her Random Program/Window Freezes - Formatted/Flashed/Memtested..- freezes still persists system and programs They were taken right after the freezes Not sure if these help they seem like a bunch of crap to me but just incase I can't tell anything for certain from it but it does say there are some errors Now I made sure the drivers to her computer are updated windows vista is updated and these freezes still occur Heres what we tried I can't figure it out at all Searching for the bios for led me to find this Flash succeeded problems till persist Ran memtest for hours no errors Reformatted to retail stock with CDs in Vista -bit Ran without video drivers Ran in safe mode Dual booted into Windows windows updated fully fresh newest drivers installed for all motherboard components and video card All of these failed freezes still happen to random programs If anyone can figure this out it would be GREATLY appreciated

Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

It won't hurt to run MemTest again - but I wouldn't put a priority on it.

Hello, my computer had locked up not to long ago so I had to give it a hard reboot. However, now it doesn't seem to recognize my main hard drive. I have 2 sata hard drives plugged in and it only recognizes my other one. If i set the option for "Configure SATA as" to RAID in bios, it shows it in the boot list but then throws a BSOD with error code 0x0000007b. Also it seems the same BSOD error happens when I set it as AHCI. Both hard drives recognized but BSOD thrown. When it has "Configure SATA as" IDE it only shows the other hard drive. Any ideas?

My System is:

ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775
CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM

Please help me with my Win XP SP3 problem.
The system freezes for approx 40 seconds just after the desktop and all the icons are displayed (during each reboot). It's impossible to run any program in the meantime - menu start and all the icons are dead.
The Avast antivirus is not responsible for the problem - after uninstallation nothing were better.

I attach HJT log. Thank you for any answer !

A:Pc freezes on reboot

There is a patch or maybe it's an update that you can get on the Microsoft site that will allow you to shut down properly. You really should install it. It has helped me numerous times with WIN98 SE. I hope this helps you.

Hello,

I recently build a computer and since the beginning my pc freezes and then reboots... He does it really random, I can browse the internet for two hours and nothing happens, and he can stay on desktop for 10 minutes and he reboots...

My pc specs are:
- 2x 4GB Crucial RAM
- XFX R9 290 Core Edition
- FX-8320E
- ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 Motherboard
- 750W Quad PC Power & Cooling PSU
- 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit

I have tried running memtest for 10 hours and another graphic card...
Here are the dump files https://www.dropbox.com/s/odt7shs5q3fcfs9/Dumpfiles.zip?dl=0

I really appreciate any help form you guys!

A:PC freezes and then reboot

Welcome Brammetje to the Bleeping Computer Community I have tried running memtest for 10 hours and another graphic card... Can you verify if the results of using a different graphics or onboard (if available) have made a difference? What was the memtest result? Using alternately a different stick would also confirmed if the memtest diagnostic is the same, as no errors or no faulty RAM. The BSOD code 0x00000124 could either be any changes or faulty hardware, corrupted driver or software as one (or more) to being the culprit. Try downloading Speccy and then install the program. To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post. Download MiniToolBox and run the program. SelectList Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size then click Go.A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

I've got a system running windows xp which boots up to the desktop and freezes after loading Mafee and after seven to ten minutes it reboots. When it's up the hour glass is showing but nothing will open or run. The mouse functions but not even the start button works. I booted into the safe mode and everything works great. I was wondering, can I install and run HJT in the safe mode and would getting a log from the safe mode tell me much? I booted in a bootlog mode but couldn't find any bootlog. Attached is a picture file of the event log and the start-up file. Please take a look at it and tell me what is trying to load and is hanging up and causing XP to freeze and re-boot. Let me know if doing a HJT in the safe mode will be of any help. Thanks

Either RAM or Graphics card. Could be drivers. Before you start to get desperate, run a RAM test
There are two ways you can access this tool:

Accessing the Memory Diagnostic Tool from boot menuAccessing the Memory Diagnostic tool within Window Vista

How to access Memory Diagnostic Tool from boot menu

1. Power up your computer and keep pressing F8 key until you see the Boot menu option
2. Now use your TAB key to select memory diagnostic tool in the bottom of the screen.
This method is applicable if your computer has only Windows Vista installed. If you have a dual boot system then you would be automatically presented the boot menu once you power up your computer. Once you are presented with Boot menu you can access the memory diagnostic tool by pressing F8 key.
How to access Memory Diagnostic Tool from within Windows Vista

1. Go to Control Panel by Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel select the “Administrative Tools”

3. Select the Memory Diagnostic Tool from Administrative Tools

4. The Memory Diagnostic Tool will offer two options to select. You can choose immediate restart of your computer or schedule to run the memory diagnostic tool to run at next reboot.

What are the various options that Memory Diagnostic Tool provides?

The memory diagnostic tool provides three options to choose from:

Basic: MATS+, INVC, and SCHCKR (cache enabled)Standard: LRAND, Stride6 (cache enabled), CHCKR3, WMATS+, and WINVCExtended: LRAND, Stride6 (cache enabled), CHCKR3, WMATS+, and WINVC, ERAND, Stride6 (cache disabled), and CHCKR8
By default the memory diagnostic tool uses the Basic option and 2 passes to choose.
After the tests are completed the resulted would be presented to you after booting into Vista.

http://www.shivaranjan.com/2007/11/0...agnostic-tool/
Next, if the ram passes, download the latest drivers for your card and install them

Let's know how you go

running XP SP3; recent problem - it hangs right after splash screen on reboot (hot or cold) only way out is to press esc on splash screen which forces it to list available HDs that I have and then select primary drive, everything else seems to work just fine. I even went to msconfig > startup and unchecked all those that looked new since last time I did this, same result. I've had this box for 6 years with no real problems except a couple of hardware items which I replaced.
Any ideas?
thanks

I'm having ongoing stability problems with Vista SP on my Lenovo T laptop About of all reboots end with the system freezing With the other the system boot fine and remains totally stable until the next reboot The freeze takes place - minutes after the desktop appears The system goes into a hard stop and becomes unresponsive even to Ctrl-Alt-Del Occasionaly there is a BSOD rather than a hard stop Booting in safe mode works fine of the time The system diagnostics report in the Control Panel Reliability and Performance applet reports a number of errors relating to the Microsoft Freezes Vista After Reboot to Adapter and Microsoft ISATAP Adapter see attached text file I've checked for a driver update for these devices but Windows reports I Vista Freezes After Reboot am using the latest version To assist in diagnosis I have downloaded and run BSOD Vista v - jcgriff bat from this forum and a zip of the output file directory is attached Lenovo's response is the usual quot Do a system revert to the ex factory state and then call us again quot Ha ha This one has got me beat Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
