Can't change Pavilion display resolution after motherboard

Q: Can't change Pavilion display resolution after motherboard

Motherboard and processor failed on Pavilion p6-2133w with AMD A6 3620, AMD Radeon HD 6530D, Windows 10 Pro.I paid Staples Easytech Replaced to replace motherboard and processor with AMD A6 3650.The system is now identified as HP Pavilion p7-1154 Desktop PC -- I did not expect or know the product name would change.I installed AMD Catalyst Driver which recognizes the Acer S201HL display but I still can't increase resolution beyond 640x480.Two questions.First, this may be a dumb question, but is the change from p6-2133w to a p7-1154 an issue?Second, one idea is that the BIOS should be "reset" -- which I thinks is the same as "flash?" -- so that it will recognize the hardware but I can't figure out how to do the reset.Any ideas appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't change Pavilion display resolution after motherboard

Greetings, 1. Only if you are in warranty. 2. You can enter 'SETUP" , set BIOS to defaults, and "save and exit". Staples replaced the p6-2133w MB with a similar board used by HP in a different product number. You should get HD screen resolution. This integrated graphics board may be HP OEM. Remove the AMD graphics driver. Let Win 10 install the driver and see if that helps. Install a discrete graphics card if the AMD GPU is not compatible with Win 10. Cheers!

i cannot change my display resolution or color resolution from 16 bit, the only options i have r 2 color and 16 bit, how do i get to install/use higher resolution??, i recently formatted my hard drive and had to reinstall win 98, i installed a driver for sound card so i have sound again, but the resolution has me stumped, any suggestions??, thanks a million...shauna

A:display resolution cannot change

If you don’t have a CD with your video driver on it you will have to download it from the manufacturer’s site.

You normally install it through device manager – right click My Computer>Properties>Device manager and double left click on display adapters and then your card.

A:How did I accidentally change my display resolution?

Dont think it was a hot key. In fact how to Geek, tell how to create a hot key. I think it was a malfunction Improper shutdown, an install or a power surge are the most likely causes

Window is too big to get to the buttons at the bottom of change resolution display. Tried left-clicking to move screen but it only moves it a 1/4" All 5 restore points do not work, there was an error when they were saved. Windows Backup and Restore does not work. It got thru 2 1/2 discs, twice before it said there was an error. I have run scans for Virus and Spyware, Nothing was found although i did remove Marketflip.FakeSearchandDestroy about 4 days ago. I'm thinking it's from installing Vista SP1. Vista did run faster after installing it for about 1 day. I've been all over the Internet checking out Vista forums, with no luck, it seems Vista is too new or i did something dumb that nobody else has done yet. Think i'll check into uninstalling SP1.

Hello Winger84 and welcome to BC The issue you are having could be related to the malware on your system. Hi guys,

After installing a clean install of Windows 7 professional I can't seem to get the resolution more than 800x600.
I went to the driver section and installed the right Display driver for my NB550D-111: version 8.812.2.2 of the displaydriver.

After a reboot, still nothing happens and I can't change the resolution.
Trying to open Catalyst Control Center results in nothing: i can't seem to open it.

I spent hours and hours trying to fix this issue but need help at this time.

Where do I down load them? The Dell Site does not show vedio drivers to download.

My monitor uses the resolution 1024 x 768, but this morning it's on 640 x 480?
I try to change the resolution back, but the Resolution option is greyed out?
A warning underneath says: If your resolution is below 1024 x 768, some items may not fit on the screen.

Any ideas how to fix yet another Windows problem?

A:Windows 7\Control Panel\Display greyed out my resolution change option

Check your display adapters under Device Manager (Right click My computer>Properties>Device Manager). If there is an exclamation mark next to your video adapter, then there is an issue. Try resintalling the driver (online or CD that it came with, doesnt matter to start). After the install, reboot the system and then verify that the resolution can be changed.

A:monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows??

does the Nvidia card have any software which could manage screen resolutions? If so you can try that in safe mode....

Also, tap F8 on startup, but instead of safe mode chose "enable VGA mode" which should cause windows to boot normally, but in 800x600 (or something of the like, that just about all monitors and TV's support)

Hi all,

So I'm creating a program for a friend but we are having trouble trying to display things in a 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Is there any way to create a custom resolution on my laptop or monitor of 1280 x 1024? Our monitors don't have this resolution listed in the display settings, or is this a driver issue?

A:How to change the monitor resolution to a custom resolution

The resolution availability can be affected due to the graphics card installed. I will have a think about any other factors which may affect the resolution.

i have a samsung monitor that have 2 slots, specifically for DVI & VGA
and i also have a GPU embeded: inno3d GT430 that also have 2 slots for VGA and DVI

i got this new DVI cable from a friend so i tried to upgrade my display from VGA to DVI

the problem is i cant see any differences between the two

things ive checked so far:
nvidia settings ressolution tab: converted it to 1920 x 1080, 1080p
windows resolution settings: 1920 x 1080 (Recommended)

so again, there are no differences between the two when i hooked them up, can anybody tell me any steps to make my display HD?

core i3
OS installed: win7 32bit

A:HD Resolution & Analog Resolution: they display the same output

Is it running at 1920 x 1080 ?

Why do you think you would see a difference ? VGA is analog and DVI is digital, that`s it, as far as I know.

Personally, I think Samsung monitors are terrible.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

I just purchased a Dell XPS 410/9200 computer and separately bought a Samsung 941BW 19" widescreen LCD display whose native resolution is 1440 x 900. The computer came with the NVidia GeForce 7300 graphics card and the Windows XP Home Edition operating system. When we tried to follow HitSquad's advice to PaulInAustin on 12/14/2006 there was no "Add" button in the window for screen resolutions and refresh rates.

Samsung technical help tells us to call Dell, and Dell tech support seems clueless about this problem. With all the widescreen displays being sold, surely they've addressed this issue!

A:Setting Display Resolution For New Widescreen Display

Hi fishinswede, welcome to BC.There should be a driver disc for the monitor itself that came in the box. Did you install it and is windows identifying the correct monitor model? And just so we're on the same page, you did also first uninstall the old drivers then re-install the upgraded drivers (forceware 93.71) for the video card itself from the Nvidia link here? You may also wish to try a somewhat older version here. It's the one I still use because it's the most stable I have found for my system. The only reason I can see that the add button wouldn't be there is that the monitor is not being identified correctly, either because of the driver or the monitor itselfIf you have done the above and have another monitor laying around, preferably a crt, temporarily hook it up and see if the "add" button is now an option. If it is, add the new resolution settings then hook up your new monitor. It's a long shot but worth a try. You also want to start in a lower resolution then the one you're trying to add. Bump it down to an ugly 800x600, then see if the add button is an option. You should altimatetly end up with a menu resembling thisLet us know what you come up with.

Hello to everyone out there. I have a quick question to anyone who might have a possible solution. When I play a dvd through the media center, it plays much too large (even the title menu options don't fit on the screen) however it should play in, mostly, a widescreen format. Also the resolution has now changed.

I have tried the properties options and changed the screen resolution, but to no avail. I have also tried to uninstall the Intel chipset family, but also not a fix.

Any other suggestions?

A:External display settings change when Power options change?

Check to see what resolution your laptop's display is at, what the external TV resolution is when you connect it to your laptop, and MAYBE what resolution the videos you're watching are. This just sounds like a resolution issue. If the TV is at a larger resolution than your laptop's resolution, change the TV's resolution to the size your laptop is at. Then try watching a video to see what happens. Hope this helps.

Are you talking about the white text on a black background that flashes by for a few seconds during the beginning of the boot process?

Or are you talking about what your screen looks like after the booting is done and you are looking at your normal desktop and icons?
The latter should be easily adjusted within certain ranges.

It is quite possible that it is limited by the monitor. Especially if windows installed a generic monitor. Check the PB website and see if there is a download for your monitor that will allow you to reach the resolution you want.

The ATI graphic card is saying that the maximum resolution can go to 1920 X 1080 16X9.

Do you know if we are able to change this and how?

A:We can't change the resolution...

720 X 480 is standard NTSC resolution for TV. I believe you should be able to find a screen adjustment (overlay) setting in your driver to get the picture displayed correctly. If you change resolutions, the TV wouldn't accept the picture.

The screen is connected with a vga cable and all the drivers seem to be updated.
Before I upgraded everything was fine and dandy...

Does anyone have an idea about wha'ts going on?

Best regards...

Hello Hesso,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

What graphics card do you have? What monitor? Sure sounds like a driver issue. Is the card listed and showing as working in device manager?

Hi and welcome.
To answer your question. I sure it is possible but not sure what file .
The other question I have is why don't you let Win7 do it?
Right mouse click on desktop and select Screen Resolution.
Seems simple enough.

Also if the issue is related to your video card or computer please fill in your computer specifications undr your user account.
Thank you.

right my monitor is YURAKU 19" widescreen.

my resolution is 1440 x 900 but if i change my desktop resolution it just makes my actual desktop smaller so there is black bars all round the image. it dosent stretch it to full screen, this also happens when i use a resolution other than 1440 x 900 when i play counter-strike source.

normally id just go to the monitor osd or whatever it is and increase the V and H size, but there isnt anything that lets me do it! also even when i lower my resolution it still says 1440 x 900 on the osd ( also H 55.9KHZ and V 59.9KHZ if that helps) but i cant change it !!

A:Display resolution not available but should be

Give this a go. I posted it up and it worked twice in the last two weeks for others.

Just in case Click the picture below and it gets bigger.

Right click an open area of the desktop then go down the list to Nvidia Control Panel. Left click it. This takes you to Nvidia Change Resolution page. See pic below.
1)Select monitor- your new one should be outlined all ready. If more than one connected select the monitor you wish to set.

2) Select PC resolution. As you see mine is 1440x900 at 75MHz.
Almost all monitors use setting at 60MHz so yours should be 60 MAYBE 75MHz.
If your resolution is in this list you are done. Close page.
Only go to Step 3 if yours isn't listed at Step 2.
Custom Resolutions as the ones I have shown are totally unstable with MY monitor. So don't go further unless necessary.
3) If your Resolution isn't listed click "Customize"
4) Select a PC res that may work. You can always change or try others.
5) Click OKAY to accept and try.

I hope that helps and gets you fixed.

I picked up a used dell inspirion 1100 laptop (2003 model) that has XP Home installed. The display shows only one option for screen resolution, 8-bit. I have tried updating and then uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the Intel GI, but with no change. I have it set up on a wireless network. The GI is a chipset on the motherbord. Am I correct in thinking that I cannot replace this? Can I go and buy a USB video card and plug it in to correct this, disabling the other onboard one? I called a local computer repair shop and they said they should be able to resolve it for about $45 and that it sounds to them like a software issue, not hardware....... any thoughts ?

Its purely a driver problem, which the installation below should hopefully solve:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-96
Once completed, restartx and once logged back in, you should show native resolution.

If you need to adjust the settings for the Nvidia driver, fire up terminal...

P.S. Anything can be removed with this command in terminal..

sudo apt-get remove *package-name*
Terminal is fun, and simple once you get used to using it.

A:I can't change my resolution from 800X600

Possibly you don't have the correct 64bit driver.

My girlfriend just bought a new Compaq CPU -
She kept the 17" monitor from a, at the time, "state of the art" Gateway probably bought in 1994 or 1995.

The resolution setting is 640 X 480 and the arrow or control to change it to 800 X600, etc. is "grayed" out and can't be changed.
I have had PC's since the Commodore 64 but have never seen this problem-
Your suggestions are appreciated.

A:Monitor resolution - can't change !

It is either corrupt or uninstalled video drivers or more likely since the computer is new, the computer can not auto detect the capabilities of the monitor and needs drivers for the monitor installed. Check both and you should find the cause.

Hi there this is a weird one First of all I have an HP Compaq nw laptop It has an ATI Resolution nullification change Mobility Fire GL Resolution change nullification T video card with MB Ram I am also running Windows XP with SP Ok my problem is this My native resolution is x I have run the same software for the last several months with no problem I have played many different games including Half Life without problems But for some reason this week I noticed a problem when it came to my computer s ability to change resolution At first I didn t pay too much attention This weekend I decided to look into it When I try to change my resolution the computer acts as if everything is going okay There are no errors What happens is that the screen flips as it usually does But instead of displaying the new resolution it just displays the old one But the computer thinks that the resolution has changed It even gives me the second dialog box asking me if I want to keep the changes I have the ability to change the resolution in two ways First is with the normal winxp display properties window The second is through an ati control panel When I change the resolution in the ati control panel I can see the resolution I want come up for a split second before the computer flips back to the original So it seems that it isn t so much a driver problem Also I have run a scans with PC Spyware Doctor and Avira Antivirus Nothing I have removed the driver and reinstalled it several times nothing One more thing I played games that changed the resolution of my screen all the way up till last week with no problem This weekend I tried playing a game that worked before but this time it didn t When I started the game it attempted to change the resolution and start in fullscreen mode The funny thing is the game didn t know the resolution didn t change It started just fine but in a little box in the middle of the screen The only way I could play the game was to change the games internal resolution to x in the options Just to show that my driver isn t the problem the game ran using half life s source engine in that resolution just fine Lastly it can t be a hardware failure as I went into my linux system and was able to change the resolution no problem The only thing I can possibly think of is maybe a windows update has broken something but I have no idea how to check if an update messes with the display properties Any ideas nbsp
