Preferred Solution: Upgraded T410 bios, now have Ultranav problems.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an IBM T40 laptop. I have been having problems with the mouse properties. I opened up the advanced properties for the mouse and selected the UltraNav tab. I keep selecting the "Standard Scroll" option but it never stays. It keeps doing the smooth scrolling. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, I can get the standard scroll option to stay. But then after a while longer it reverts back by itself. It usually happens when something disrupts my wireless internet connection. I have downloaded all the latest drivers that I could find from the IBM website. What is messing this up?

Hi there!

Decided to upgrade the BIOS of my Gigabyte motherboard (GA-8I915G-MF) to version F8. Everything worked fine, system rebooted, got the new version reference displayed at start up, btu, while system was still checking periferals (IDE buses) I got the following message: " OC fail. Enter set up to change OC fail settings".

I do not know what OC is, and, before making additional damage, I decided to write this post to check if anyone could give me any tip.

BTW, I can boot completely. If I skip the request to enter into BIOS set up, Windows works OK, and all drives seems to be correctly loaded .

TIA for any assistance.

This is what I have: Dell Latitude 10 ? ST2e System Tablet. It got corrupted, so I rebuilt it (the OS) from scratch and changed it from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. It works fine except for the front camera. When I use Skype, my video appears to be very dark and green. I'm sure I don't have the proper drivers and BIOS. Also, I don't know how to test the front camera without connecting to someone on Skype. There must be a way. Could someone guide me please? Thank you.............

PS: There may be other things that don't work properly that I haven't tried yet (like the back camera).

Guys, I think this was the most relevant place to ask for help. I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu. (Yes my current description is what I am trying to run.) Most of the driver issues have been resolved, but one vexes me. I try to load the bios setup by mashing the delete key, and instead it brings me to the windows boot manager. Same deal if I try another keystroke for the boot menu or other utilities. It is a usb keyboard and the drivers are installed. I also have a ps2 port im not sure if I would need to use instead. I have a ps2/usb adapter and when I try that, the keyboard does nothing. Basically im trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong or if I should rma my mobo. Thanks guys

A:Upgraded motherboard and cpu, no keystroke will load bios setup

Hiyya XX mate does the DEL key do anything in the system? May sound like a daft query but I am just thinking maybe the KB is bung??

Have you seen chapter two in the manual it gives the info on the BIOS maybe just flip the battery out leave for a few minutes and then put it back in might jolt the thing into life.

I notice too that it has a dual BIOS does the manual say anything about using a special button on the board?? I cannot quite read the manual download as it is quite small print and my OS (8) I cannot find a way of increasing the size or I would look.

I recently upgraded my BIOS with much back and forth with esupport and the flash went smoothly with no apparent problems Some of my previous problems seem to have reduced Fantastic I kept getting a found new hardware pop up for my already installed Canon Multipass C I am running Windows XP SP The printer worked BIOS , wrecked LPT1.4 Upgraded port an added Printing fine I checked the hardware and found an LPT port My lpt Upgraded BIOS added an LPT1.4 port , Printing wrecked port was still there The found new hardware wizard was just annoying So finally today I thought I would remove the printer and reinstall hoping that that would place it in the correct spot Well now I can t reinstall the printer The current disk is not compatible with XP but I have an update and a patch for xp When I try to start the printer installer it does nothing The hourglass icon flashes for a few minutes and then nothing happens I ve checked the event logs and nothing seems to be pinpointing the issue I ve tried totally removing all the bits of the old software right down to removing the registry entries without any luck I ve tried plugging and unplugging the printer from both the computer and the power I am at my whit s end The printer is connected via a parrallel port just not a LPT port I removed the key for the LPT port from the registry but when I turned the computer back on it was back I would appreciate any suggestions Thank you nbsp

A:Upgraded BIOS added an LPT1.4 port , Printing wrecked

Many motherboard BIOS default setting for printer port is SPP (Standard Printer Port) not bi-directional.
When you flashed the BIOS it was probable reset to the default SPP.

Delete both printer ports in Windows and then boot into the motherboard BIOS.
Enter the BIOS and set the printer port to ECP/EPP.
Boot back into Windows and let it detect the printer port.

I am running a ThinkPad L530 in a Windows 10 environment.  All drivers are up to date.
Ever since I installed Windows 10, whenever the laptop awakens from sleepmode or is rebooted, the touchpad becomes enabled.  I have gone into the Settings - Devices - Mouse & touchpad - additional mouse options - Ultranav and unchecked the "Enable TouchPad" and clicked Apply, then OK.  This doesn't hold, though.  As soon as it awakens, the box becomes checked and I have to redo the settings.  I don't want the touchpad active at all, but I do occasionally need the eraser button.  How do I make my selection stick?

Hi all, The latest version of the touchpad driver for the T440 disables my trackpoint and removes the option to re-enable it from the Mouse Properties menu. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm on Windows 7 and the original driver on my computer is v18.0.7.40, for reference. Removing and re-installing the new driver did not fix the issue. I'd like to keep the new driver installed (due to behavior issues from my touchpad on the old driver), but lack of trackpoint functionality is a dealbreaker for me. Thanks in advance.

A:Changing UltraNav settings while a mouse is connected

Hello thebookster, and welcome to the forum.

I think you will have to uninstall the new mouse to get your old settings back. Should this work and you set up your Ultranav for a left handed person the Ultranav settings may still not work on reinstalling the new mouse. but it is worth a try.

Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver ( several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Actually on a fresh install of Windows 10 64bit (Anniversary update).

Anybody got middle button under TrackPoint working as it was under XP? I don't need zoom nor scroll controls (stupid nonsense having this) - simply a middle click as it was before. A:Upgraded to IE8 and had problems

Using System Restore is not how you uninstall IE. It is its own entry in Add/Remove Programs and is supposed to be uninstalled there, which then rolls you back to your previous version of IE. Below is a link to a MS article on how to go about it. additional link to special steps uninstalling with regards to those users who already have SP3 on their systems: may have to uninstall IE8, IE7, and SP3. Then reinstall SP3 (and subsequent patches) and then IE7, in that order, to get your system straightened out. But to start off, I'd try to uninstall IE8 via Control Panel, Add/Remove first and see if you can get to the net at all.An aside tip for when you want to uninstall programs: 1. First check the program's entries in the Start Menu for a built-in uninstaller. 2. If not, uninstall via Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. 3. If no entry, ask on that software company's user forum for steps/special removal tools4. Never just delete the program folder(s). 5. Don't try to uninstall via System Restore.

My friend upgraded his laptop's OS from 98 to XP. Now whenever he runs XP, an error message pops up saying that C:\\windows\system32\lsass.exe has encountered a terminal error code -1073741819 and has to restart the computer. THis has happened everytime he runs XP after about 15 minutes.
Also, when he tries to run his Symantec antivirus, it says he has the 98 version and must reinstall. He reinstalled, but it says the same thing. What's up here?

A:Upgraded From 98 to XP - Strange Problems

He has the sasser worm

With XP you MUST enable a firewall before connecting an unpatched version of XP to the web.

Failure to do so will guarantee an infection, sometimes within 20 seconds of just connecting.

A:Newly upgraded problems

Without memory, the PC is useless.

Since that is a gigabyte motherboard, I suspect they're still screwing people over by failing to put speakers on the motherboards. If it had the speaker, you'd be hearing a whole lot of continuous beeping right now telling you there was no RAM in there. You must get some RAM before the computer will go through the power on test.

You'll probably want another graphics card to replace the onboard graphics as well but at this stage it's not overly important in getting the PC to power up and display video.

That PSU seems cheap and nasty (by the looks and reviews), I'd advise you to send it back and purchase something under the Corsair, Antec or Seasonic (who make the parts inside Corsair and Antec PSUs) power supply. They're quite a bit more expensive than the one you purchased, but considering they're the most important part of the PC, it's certainly worth it.

hi i have recently up graded my computer from SP1 to SP2, upgrade work easy as as it was d/l from windows update site.

my problem is now whn i turn on the computer it will work for i while and the the screen turns blank, from here i need to unplug computer from wall and restart.

1st i thought it could be the video drivers so i tryed to update the and was told i have the current driver in (this was from the Update driver from the device manager).

my system is

Win xp pro
p3 - 800mhz
ram = 512
m/b = PC Chips M754LMR
hd = 40g

Now it is doing the blank thing more and more.. is this common with SP2 ,as i never had this problem with SP1

all information is help full

A:Solved: Sp1 upgraded to SP2 , now problems

The usual reason for the computer to act up after SP2 is installed is that there were infections present before installing SP2 or the download from Windows update was a bummer. You can try this first and it will take a while if you have dial-up so my suggestion would be to download on a broadband and burn it to a CD-R.

Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 full installation

A:Upgraded OS From Vista, Many Problems

It does sound like something is corrupt. I've had a problem in the past where after a clean install Windows Explorer couldn't open, task manager would never stop trying to load, and Control Panel almost always got hung up. I tried several times to install programs and would see a window pop up for a second, disappear, and not display any other information. When task manager would work I would see that there would be a process for each time I tried to launch an installer and after 5 or 6 instances the computer would slow pretty noticeably.
Honestly I didn't have the patience to look for a solution. It took a clean install of Windows 7 for me to get it running smooth again. I think first I'd try running chkdsk.exe from the start menu (search chkdsk so you don't have to try and go through control panel or Explorer) if you can get Windows to boot. If you can't run that, I'd try booting with the Windows 7 install CD and clicking the Repair option. If that doesn't work I'd try re-installing windows.
A huge shot in the dark: Some other people have solved errors with that code by creating a new user account and transferring their files over, which led them to believe the problem is corrupt profile data. I'm not sure how to create a new user profile without using the control panel though. Maybe someone knows how to use cmd prompt to do that.
Edit: So if you can run cmd.exe from the start menu and would like to try to create a new user account it turns out you can create new accounts without going through the Control Panel.
1. Run command prompt.
2. Make sure you are in C:\Users\"youraccountnamehere">

3. You'll then type this, but replace NewUserName with what you would like to name the account:
net user /add NewUserName
Hit the enter key.

Done. You should have a new user account. Try switching to that user profile. With any luck you are hopefully having the same issue as these other guys and this resolves it. Good luck.

Hi all in my searching for solutions this forum Upgraded Logon - XP to problems Vista came up with lots of good advice so I've joined in the hope that you can help me with something that's proving a bit intractable Apologies for the length of this post but I'd like to give as much info as possible I've been a bit nervous about upgrading a working system which is why I waited about years before biting the bullet The install disc I'm using comes from an old MSDN subscription I had several years ago and is I think the first official release of Vista I did a trial install on a clean partition to Upgraded XP to Vista - Logon problems ensure that my system could actually run Vista and that seemed to work fine so I went ahead with the upgrade of my XP system All seemed to go fine until I tried logging on to one of the three user accounts and got the dreaded 'user profile failed' message This happened to all of the accounts Following the advice I found in here I enabled the Administrator account and implemented the registry fix the ' bak' entries After a bit of firtling I managed to be able to consistently log on So first important point I have a system that sort of works However now when I look at the user profile folder in explorer most of them are duplicated - i e I have two 'Documents' folders two 'Download' folders and so on Investigation shows that one of the pair points to the Users lt user gt folder and the other the 'real' one - the one with the special icon points to system config userprofile Another however if I boot up in safe mode I only get one set of folders and these are the 'user' folders not the system ones This leads me to suspect that a driver is affecting the User folders such that the login process can't access them correctly I sometimes but not always get the message telling me that it's using a temporary profile Creating a brand new 'scratch' user also suffers from the login failed problem - but there's no registry entry to muck about with further confirming my suspicion that this has something to do with access to files Booting in safe mode allowed me to log on to that account Another possible data point to this theory I tried as Administrator to copy one of the user profile folders to a safe place It failed to copy one file it wouldn't say which one - any bets on ntuser dat with the claim that the file was in use by another program Startup repair doesn't see any problems Booting up in safe mode with networking appears to send the logon to sleep it sits there for a good minutes saying 'welcome' no apparent disc activity Fortunately Windows Update appears to be working so I'm in the process of getting every update I can in the hope that something will trip but I'm not holding my breath So that's about where I am I should add the other two important points here second point this started immediately after the upgrade so I do not have a system restore point prior to the problem so doing a system restore is not an option third point I will try anything rather than a clean install - I simply have too much invested in the current system for that to be feasible for example I need to deactivate certain programs such as Photoshop in order to be able to install them again and I'm not sure that that's currently possible Basically I would need to be able to recover some unknown subset of all registry entries from the original system I'm convinced that the problem is down to one rogue item probably a driver and that if I can locate and kill it then all should be OK again The problem is locating which one it is Again apologies for the length of this post especially from a first-timer and here's hoping someone can help me identify the source of the problem

A:Upgraded XP to Vista - Logon problems

Further info that may or may not be useful:

I turned on 'view hidden files' and 'view system files' in folder options. If I look at system32\config\systemprofile (got the name wrong above, sorry), I can see ntuser.dat but if I look in the Users\<user> folder, there's no sign of it, and search doesn't find it either. But... if I try to copy the systemprofile\ntuser.dat to the Users\<user> directory, it tells me that the file already exists. Hmmm - hidden hidden files.

Also is it normal for the Users\<user> directories to be marked read-only when you open up their properties?

I installed 8.0 with the factory disk and for awhile the option to "refresh your pc" worked perfectly. However after the 8.1 update, I get a message stating to insert the 8.1 disk and it won't work with my regular 8.0 disk. I don't have an 8.1 disk. Is there a way to download an iso and use that to refresh the pc then use the original 8.0 key? I usually try to restore every 6 months because it's a habit I have had since 7. Usually my windows works fine but I run low on SSD space and it's easier to erase and restart everytime.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and have tried going on the dell website to download the appropriate audio driver but they only have a windows xp one for my machine which does not seem to be compatable with windows 7.

I am now at a loss as to what to do? I believe I need a new audio driver but don't know how to find which one will be appropriate for both my machine and windows 7.

Hi, degrees, and welcome to the forums.

It sounds like it is simply timing out, but that could be due to a number of reasons.

First and foremost - is it timing out at *any* site? What size files are we talking here? Have you tried making a rule to allow FileZilla traffic / FTP traffic to bypass Norton's filters?

How old? Its possible you have hardware that is not compatible with Windows 7. Try the Upgrade Advisor if you haven't (problem is you need an OS in there to run it on so...) and give the make and model and customizations if any.

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

A:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Hi everyone,
Need a new laptop for my computer science degree, considered quite a few. Was just wondering if anyone has an oppinion on the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2516, I would upgrade it as follows:
i5-460m processor
windows 7 home premium 64
320GB 7200rpm hard drive
9 cell battery
Anyone think i should upgrade it differently, I'd like to get it a little cheaper so where if anywhere should i make the cuts in upgrades?
Has anyone got this laptop? is it particularly heavy to carry around?

A:What do you think of the Lenovo ThinkPad T410?

what the difference in 3 and 4GB memory - i would not expect you to use that amount of memory unless you are using some special heavy memory programs

I did a hardware scan on my computer and it showed me a hardware problem with the memory. The computer have been working fine for many years now. The only thing I did not so long after I got it was to upgrade to 8 GB of memory and an SSD disk. So it have been working great for many years. No it's started turning it self of sometimes while I use it. The scan showed result code: WMEBVVBTH-WL8BRF Also see the log attached. Is the memory starting to go bad or is it the Windows? The computer is upgraded to Windows 10 a few months back.

I have been getting regularly occurring BSODs with various errors. Looking for help please.
The dump output from BSOD program and performance monitor data are attached.

The system is:
Lenovo T410
Current OS is Windows 7 and is the one that came with the system.
System is 3 or 4 years old.

The BSODs seem to occur during heavy browser usage. Having multiple tabs opened and switching back and forth between tabs, the browser, and desktop apps. But almost always (if not always), when I am in a browser window.

Hi all, I have a T410 that's from 2010 with the i5 520m cpu. I bought it used recently and I don't think the bios has ever been upgraded. When I follow the regular instructions of entering BIOS --> Config --> CPU, I saw a menu of four choices. The bottom two wereIntel(R) Virtualization Technology [DISABLED]Intel(R) VT-d Feature [DISABLED]I tried to change them, but strangely the menu only let me navigate through the first two choices (I can't recall them exactly now but they didn't seem to have anything to do with virtualization), nothing seemed to allow me to access the bottom two choices...  How should I go about fixing this properly?  I want to be very careful with upgrading/flashing BIOS as I really don't want to end up with a brick Thanks

A:Enabling Intel VT-x in a T410

Look for your BIOS Version and post it(You can find it on the start page of your BIOS)VT-x is supported by your CPU, but maybe there are conflicting settings..Maybe you really have to update the BIOS but that shouldn't be a real problem...Use a disk image, hook your thinkpad to the power and let it be for 20 minutes or so...

Hi, My T410 would not power on, nothing when pressing the button. It will power up if I remove the cmos battery, plug the power in, unplug, re-connect the cmos battery and then plug the power in, and it works fine then...until it's powered off of course and the cycle begins again. I thought it may be a faulty cmos battery so I have changed that to no avail. Next step is to change the keyboard I guess? the power button seems to do will not power the laptop off etc. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found a solution before I spend 20 or so on a keyboard off Ebay. Thanks, Terry

About two weeks ago, I began getting BSODs on a 9 month old ThinkPad T410 running Win Professional 7x64, OEM. This is the original install of the OS, and there have been no recent hardware changes. Prior to this issue, the machine has performed without any failures.

Today's failure happened quite spontaneously (or so it seemed to me) while the ThinkPad was sitting unattended and unused for about 15 minutes.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hello there,I wanted to get all my data from my old Thinkpad T410, so I took out the SSD which was installed in it and connected it to my newer Computer. The problem is that my new bought Computer did not recognize the drive at all, so I tested the drive externally on my Thinkpad and this doesn't recognize it either nor will it boot from it when it is connected via USB. I tested the drive on Windows, Linux and MacOS, there are no problems with my external connector, my Thinkpad boots without problems from other USB-Drives and the drives work internally without any problems. On Linux, the drives are detected but not mountable and not formatable... I hope someone has an answer to this problem

Have you tried recalibrating the battery? Open Lenovo Power Manager -> switch to advanced -> Battery -> Battery Maintenance -> Perform Reset. It will take a lot of time to complete, don't remove AC power while this is running. Let it run while you are sleeping or something similar so that you won't have to interrupt the process.

There are ultra bay adapters for the T410, as well as many other T-series laptops so you can install a 2nd hard drive in place of the CD or DVD drive.  I have the adapter and drive but for some reason the computer doesn't recognize the drive in the bay.  You can hear the drive attempt to power on and spin but after it boots there isn't any sign of the drive.  Are there some steps I'm missing, something I need to change?   I just updated to a 240GB SSD, so the 2nd drive is the OEM 250GB HDD it does still have the OS installed, which would be wiped if I could just get the drive to load so I could format it and use it as a storage drive.  I'm running Windows 10 64bit.

I'm trying to figure out if the slow performance of my T410 (on certain apps - mainly Firefox and Quicken) could possibly be caused by an overheating problem that I know I have (because I sometimes get a "fan error" on startup, and because it is hotter to the touch that it seems it should be).  My speculation is that maybe the CPU has a temperature monitor, and when the temp gets too high it throttles down the CPU.  Is there any truth to that idea? ~ Thanks in advance~ Ken

That is true.Your fan error means your fan is running slow, which would hurt cooling

I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and was wondering where I could get the fingerprint reader, bluetooth and thinkvantage drivers for my Thinkpad. I'm not really sure which drivers to get online.

Hi and welcome, ssumOfficially, upgrade to the win10 on the T410 isn't supported: win10 reduction matches the source OS.- definitely, Lenovo will not update the win10 drivers for the Intel 6200 itself, it's a deal of the Intel. But as you noticed there are no upgrades too win8/10 manages wireles features from the metro app (Lenovo Settings, and Charms. For metro app some drivers are needed: there are not only win10 incompatible laptop components, but applications also.

System information:

- Lenovo T410
- Bought December 2010
- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM
- Hitachi 500 GB hard drive
- NVIDIA NVS 3100m Optimus Graphics 512MB DDR3 with AMT
- 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM) + I installed another 4 GB

I have not reinstalled the OS. The laptop had BSOD's right out of the box. They are unpredictable and occur 1-4 times per day. I disabled the switchable graphics, which seemed to reduce the frequency of the BSODs a little. I've updated the system via Lenovo's System Update tool. I called Lenovo's technical service and they ran through their stock checks and it didn't help.

I've attached the dump and system file collection + system diagnostics.

Thanks for any insight,

Hi davevoyageur and Welcome.

For a stable set up your Ram should ideally be matched. Same Manufacturer. Type. Model. Size. Batch. Timings. Etc..
Have you tried uninstalling the one stick and seeing if the blue screens continue?

Hello there, My Thinkpad's cursor is having freezing issues after upgrading to win10. When I move the cursor, it once in a while freezes and it's not related to the trackpad or trackpoint. I plugged in an external mouse and had the same problem again. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, the problem is still there. I really don't know what else to do. I checked all the settings on synaptics, searched the whole internet. Still couldn't have found a solution for it. Here on this link people with Lenovo laptops are having the same issue as well. Will Lenovo solve this problem and maybe put a new driver on the official site? Thank you
