Upgrading Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 without Win10 drivers

Q: Upgrading Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 without Win10 drivers

I have upgraded several PC's to Windows and I am down to my last that are Windows -era machines Two are Win10 SP1 7 Windows Upgrading 10 Windows drivers to without home-built PC's running Windows SP bit and bit In this case the motherboard manufacturers have no windows or drivers So no chipset on-board audio or Ethernet drivers etc The video cards are more current so I can get those The Dell is an older laptop that is running windows SP that I fresh-installed upon receipt Again no Windows drivers or support for that either on the Dell site So quot not certified quot to upgrade to windows I have read both success and failures when trying to just let the upgrade find drivers or just use the old drivers My question is Upgrading Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 without Win10 drivers if you are an experienced user is there a good possibility of success upgrading this way or is it not worth the hassle Now the hardware will pass the minimum requirements so my fear is someone will just click on the quot upgrade icon quot and it will happen when I am not around anyway Thanks for any thoughts or experiences BJB PS How do you access your quot auto-saved quot posts I lost the whole post while typing and it was quot auto-saved quot but could not see where to access it

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would suggest: before you upgrade, make an image of the existing hard drive with Macrium Reflect free. You'll need an external USB hard drive large enough to hold the image which will be about 80-90% in size of the used space on you existing hard drive. Also make a Macrium Reflect free rescue USB flash drive, DVD or CD.

Do the in place upgrade. Personally, almost all of us regular members here prefer to use a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive or DVD created from Media Creation Tool or from an ISO from Microsoft Tech Bench. But you can try the Windows update Get Windows X icon.

After the upgrade, you hopefully will not have any unknown devices or exclamation points in device manager. After the upgrade, I would export the third party drivers using the DISM /Export-Driver command so that you will have them if you decide to do a clean install after the upgrade.

The oldest computer I have upgraded is an Acer Aspire One that originally came with Windows XP from Acer and it is running great on Windows 10.

Did you disconnect all external peripherals except the monitor, keyboard and mouse, and be sure those are not USB, or wireless. Any internal USB card should also be removed.

Hi: You need to install the latest nvidia chipset driver from the link below and restart the PC. That will also update the ethernet controller driver so you can upgrade to W7. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us As for the second issue, unfortunately I don't know what that is. It could be what you said it might be. There is a new program that is called the HP support assistant, which might do the same thing. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html#.Vy3_qeT2bGg

Hi TS

Have you tried installing the software on the CD?
You would have to uninstall the existing version and if needed, try to install the CD using compatibility mode.

Hope this helps

I've bought a few refurbished laptops (Newegg has excellent buys), and have upgraded them from Win7 to Win10. My question is: I have already gone through the upgrade process by installing MANY - hundreds in one case - Win7 updates and then the Win10 upgrade. Can I just install the Win10 upgrade directly without going through this charade and if so, how.

A:upgrading to Win10

you are supposed to be able to upgrade with a clean install and enter the W7 Key , according to the new media tool
However, i would probably want to make sure w7 is fully updated before installing W10
maybe make a recovery dvd on one of the pcs - so you can restore the PC back to factory settings and try

mukul786 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Enterprise Editions are intended ONLY to be used by commercial operations -- hence the name Enterprise.  The only LEGAL way to acquire and install Enterprise editions is through a company, which typically makes those available to their employees through Home Use Programs  (HUP) those companies have negotiated with Microsoft. Those same companies, because of the HUP terms, are required to then support those users in terms of upgrades. If, in fact, you have an Enterprise edition, the ONLY way you can upgrade it is through the company that furnished you that software in the first place. Enterprise Editions are not available for consumer purchase. So, there is nothing WE can do regarding Upgrading your Windows.

So here in Los Angeles, it's August 3 and my PC still hasn't updated to Win10. I reserved my copy, clicked the "Notify Me When Ready" button about 20 times... nothing. Anyone else getting this issue, and does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks.

A:Anyone else not upgrading to Win10?

MS is sending upgrade notices in several waves apparently depending on things like driver availability and whether or not you participated in the Beta. I got tired of waiting and seeing all those "Windows 10 update failed" messages in Windows Update (I think these might indicate that Windows Update was downloading the install file bits at a time) so I manually downloaded and installed the upgrade.

I see all the posts about how upgrading the motherboard or a few components at once will deactivate a Win10 install- I'm just wondering about the CPU alone.

I'm building a friend a new PC and have an older CPU lying around- I'm wondering if I should stick with the older CPU or just buy a better one now, being that the free Win10 upgrade will come to an end at the end of the month? If I have to spend >$50 on a retail version of Win10 it won't be worth it.

Hello!I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition with Windows 8 as it's default operating system. Since I don't like it that much, I plan to format the hard drive (by going into computer-> Right click on C: -> Format) and then to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on it.After the clean installation procedure, I was wondering if I could simply insert the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc into the optical drive and intall the drivers like I would normally do.Therefore, the real question would be: Will the Windows 8 drivers provided by Dell be compatible with Windows 7?Thank you very much everyone.FatLord

A:Planning to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7. Will the drivers provided on my Dell "Drivers and Utilities" be comp...

I did find this one "Inspiron 15R SE 7520" If that is your model then the Dell website has Windows 7 64bit drivers and Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.

I would use the Windows 7 Drivers for windows 7, Just download them ahead of time and burn them to a CD or store on a flash drive so you will have them handy to use.

I would also have my Antivirus ready to install before I went on the Internet.

3rd point. Windows will prevent you from formatting the drive it is installed on. So you have to do it during the install process.

Good Luck

How do I do this? I tried following a tutorial in the tutorial section, but the option to delete volume in grayed out.

A:Remove Windows 10 from dual boot with Windows 7, Win10 installed first

It`s grayed out because it`s the Active partition and has the system files on it, if you were to delete it then Windows 7 would not boot anymore.

The Windows 7 partition must be made Active and the System files have to be written there before you can delete Windows 10.

The proper thing to do is backup your files, wipe out the entire drive and reinstall windows 7

Partition - Mark as Active

A:Questions About Upgrading: Win7 -> Win10

1) Maybe.
2) Mostly.
3) Probably.
4.) If you install 10 as an upgrade, a windows.old directory will be created, allowing you to revert to 7. That is only good for 30 days, though.
5) Varies.

Two recommendations:

1) Don't upgrade to Windows 10 if you have critical applications for which you lack installation media.
2) If you upgrade anyway, image your Windows 7 installation first. (I haven't used it personally, but Macrium Reflect Free is popular.) That will save you a lot of trouble if the upgrade goes wrong. Especially if you have no means of clean installing 7.

A:Is it worth upgrading to Win10 from Win8.1?

You have about 30 days to switch back if you don't like it, which is a good thing.

Firstly - You may lose your data due to unforeseen errors. It's a rare occurrence, but you don't want to be a statistic.

Secondly - In a lighter vein, Windows 10 is the biggest Junkware in the world. Be careful when you try to remove Potentially Unwanted Programs, Windows 10 doesn't get removed.

Thirdly - Are you aware that Microsoft wants Windows 10 to aggressively collect as much data about you as possible? This is no different from what Google and others do, obviously, but the exploits and their data collection policies are alarming. If you're privacy conscious, you may want to tweak a few settings during the installation. If you're paranoid about a company's data collection policies - Use a Guide to reduce privacy risk.

It also depends on what kind of computer you have, really. Is it a touchscreen? Are most of your important software Windows 10 compatible?

Everyone on here can give you great advice - better than mine, frankly. They'll list all the pros and cons more accurately, but it really depends on how you feel about using it. Are you comfortable with it? Do you like the smoothness and the interface and the settings? You have to decide it yourself within a month. Nobody can decide better than you yourself, no matter what we say, really.

Like it or hate it, Windows 10 is a good product despite its many exploits, bugs, data policies and flaws.

I would describe my Win7 system as 95% healthy, not 100%, but it runs more or less as I want it to.

But now I'm going to upgrade to Win10, while I still can for free, before the June 29 deadline..

In preparation for this, I just created a disk image of my Win7 system, just in case things go horribly wrong on the upgrade.

Is it advisable to go to the trouble to repair Win7 (at which point I could create a 2nd disk image for safekeeping), before upgrading to Win10?

Or will Win10 just install in pristine condition, even though Win7 ISN'T in pristine condition?

Hi

Everything works fine on my Win8.1 laptop with Classic Shell installed, with everything as I want it.

When I eventually update to Win10 will the layout I currently have change in any way, including Classic Shell layout and settings?

Will I be able to start Firefox with the last saved session (I should be able to as I use the 'session manager' plugin)?

Thanks

A:When upgrading to Win10, will I lose the layout I have?

That is a definite maybe!

In most cases everything should be the same except for software that is not compatible with Windows 10 or pirated software which Windows 10 will delete.

The best way to upgrade to Windows 10 is to create an image backup of your existing setup to an external hard drive using a program like Macrium Reflect Free. Then if anything goes wrong you can restore back to where you started in 20 minutes or so.

I'd recommend uninstalling Classic Shell before the upgrade then reinstall the latest version after the upgrade completes.

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community.
I upgraded my Helix Gen 1 to Windows 10 recently. I have had no problems except that I had to reinstall my old Dell printer. (That was no surprise because it was made for XP.) No issues now though. Beforehand I made sure all of the Lenovo drivers for Helix Gen 1 were updated.  I decided not to update the BIOS to the next version because it had already been updated one version after I got the Helix. All computers are configured differently by the owner, but in my case everything went smoothly. Good luck!

I recently took the plunge and upgraded an old Win desktop to Win -- and was astounded by how well it went Absolutely everything continued to work in Win even old programs from back in the Win x days Or so I thought Then I discovered that the HP Printers would not work No problem I though I'll just run the HP Win driver packages After all I did this on my desktop and the drivers installed and worked with no problems Hours later NOTHING worked to install or uninstall the old non-working HP drivers I downloaded and ran three different HP utilities to attempt driver cleanup Any attempt of either was met with an error indicating that the quot source was on a CD quot and that needed to be inserted to continue Yeah right -- a CD I had back in and have not seen since because newer driver versions were always downloaded from HP Called HP Tech Support -- had to spend for help because the printer was out of warranty Never mind that it was a Win problem -- as the printer worked fine in Win Hour later -- despite remoting in HP ran into the same problems I did --not able to install or uninstall the drivers So I Important are HP Win10 using on you Printers!! upgrading CAUTION if to use -zip and extracted the HP driverpack to its constituent parts and ran the msi installer -- same failure Out of desperation I burned the extracted driver files to a CD and inserted that -- hoping that since they were now on CD that would work Got Important CAUTION on upgrading to Win10 if you are using HP Printers!! a little farther -- then the installer complained that the Important CAUTION on upgrading to Win10 if you are using HP Printers!! msi file on the CD was not a valid installer file Now Important CAUTION on upgrading to Win10 if you are using HP Printers!! nearly two hours into the HP tech call I finally found the original HP driver CD in a box of old CDs in a closet So I coerced the HP tech into uninstalling the older drivers using the CD -- that worked Then when the new installer ran it finally worked as well Without that CD my only recourse would have been to revert back to Win uninstall the HP driver stuff redo the upgrade and then reinstall the drivers I had a full image backup ready for doing that -- but I wanted HP to fix THEIR problem Lesson learned the hard way -- if you are running HP software for HP printers be sure to uninstall it BEFORE doing the Win upgrade

I have a Win-7 Pro laptop. I have a duplicate of the system drive for backup purposes.
If I were to accept the update to Win 10, would I be able to use Win-7 (restored from the duplicate drive), or would the fact of updating the OS mark my existing Win-7 license invalid (somewhere inside MS' servers), and the system will start barking some time soon that it is not "genuine", etc.?

(Sorry, if this topic exists buried somewhere: I tried to search for it but couldn't find.)

I've just bought a second-hand Asus 'Transformer' T100. This comes with Win8.1 and I would like to upgrade to 10. When I run the app it tells me I need more space. The tablet has 32GB in the screen (C:) and 500GB in the detachable keyboard (D:).
Obviously not all the 32GB is available but there's nothing I can remove as it's had a factory reset.
The online help I find tells me that the upgrade process should ask me to add external storage to enable the install but this is just not happening. It just keep telling me I don't have enough space. I have a USB stick I could use or (ideally) the 500GB HD in the keyboard.
Can anyone offer any help? (Bear in mind I am not very technical)

Hi,

This thread is from June last year but I should think the position remains the same.

Some Windows editions are not eligible for the free Windows 10 upgrade. These include Windows RT/RT 8.1, Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise. The Enterprise editions are geared toward large organizations, which typically have their own licensing agreements with Microsoft.

Hello,
I have two identical work laptops "HP Elitebook", I upgraded(Clean installation) the first one to Windows 10 Pro 64bit, and the thing is that I don't want to do the upgrade process again.

Questions:
1- Is it possible to clone the hard disk of the upgraded one, then copy it to the second laptop without having any activation problems?

2- What software is best to do this? I wish if I can copy the clone data to an external drive, then use a bootable version of the clone software on the second one to apply the cloned data.

I understand that I need to change these things on the second laptop after cloning:
1- reactivate using its own windows product key.
2- change pc name.

Thanks.

A:Cloning disk on two Laptops, avoiding win10 upgrading twice.

I would not recommend a clone of any OS onto a different system as even seemingly identical systems may have slight variations in the components used that are enough to cause issues.

There is an option to perform multiple installs or upgrades using downloaded media The Media Creation tool is available from microsoft

If you had a lot of systems to install I might be useful to use an image system and use sysprep to customize the image but for just two systems I think the Media Creation Tool is best

I think I started the download about 2 hours ago, but its still at the same screen that says starting download. Is this normal?

A:I am upgrading from Win7 to Win10 but it seems stuck at starting download?

Doing an actual live in-place upgrade from 7 to Windows 10 using the Windows Update method (where it downloads everything necessary to do the upgrade and not using an ISO with local files or the Media Creation Tool) will take some time. If necessary, cancel or stop the process, log out, reboot, and try again if you feel it's taking an inordinate amount of time - actual live in-place upgrades will be slower than one done with local installation files.

It's just how it goes, slowly and relatively surely. If you feel it's taking way way too long, use the Media Creation Tool, get the ISO, burn it or put the contents on a USB stick (using the tool itself) and then do the upgrade from that media which will go much faster (given you can actually download the necessary files, of course).

First question. What exactly is on the flash drive? Is it just the ISO file itself (one file), or is it the extracted contents of the ISO file (a Windows setup folder structure, with a setup.exe file in the root folder)?

Second, is the flash drive formatted as FAT32?

Hi all,

I Always used 3rd part AV and firewall and even well configured with many rules.

But with a clean install of Win10 AU I am using the tools that MS give us.

About the firewall, especially, do you think I risk too much?

Everything that ENTER is blocked but everything that QUIT is leave without any permission.

I don't want also to use weird software of "control" of the firewall.

I am thinking that all this tools makes problems and issues and if I can stay with MS tools I have only to earn about stability, performance and future W10 upgrades.

What do you think?

After, insure the following commands from elevated command prompt have been completed:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=whateverulike key=whateverulike

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

The last command should show if it worked or not.

I am desperately trying to upgrade to Windows10 from my windows7 machine.
After the upgrade, when the system tries to restart, I am getting below BSOD.
I tried most of the solutions available online but to no avail.
eg. ran chkdsk to check for hardrive issues - no issue found
ran windows diagnostic tool to check memory errors - no issues found
ran antivirus scan - no viruses or malware found. Removed anti virus, updated bios, updated drivers, even did a factory reset but same issue still persists. I don't have any hardware peripherals newly added to the PC.
I am also attaching analysis of the dump file.

Please help,

Hi gauravdj,

Welcome to the 7forums

Please read BSOD Posting Instructions
The second parameter indicates improper termination or defective cabling on SCSI devices or that two devices are trying to use the same IRQ. Please check your cabling for any problems, preferrable is replacement of the cabling for the time of troubleshooting to see if that may help.
I'll need the logs from the BSOD Posting Instructions for indepth analysis.

Please follow below suggestion, even when you already have done it, and upload the results (screenshots and/or logs.

I'm trying to install Windows 10 on a new hdd mounted on a HP 15-ac121np. The laptop fell on the floor and the original hdd was unusable. I need to install from scrach and .exe provided by HP will not do. I really need only the .inf drivers and such ... the basic. Where can I find it?

A:Drivers for new install of Win10

That's a tall order. Drivers are packaged by HP and most hardware makers as .exe installers. Indeed you can manually install drivers (.inf) and those drivers are contained inside the .exe. You can run the .exe but stop short of installing with the .exe but manually point the driver updater to the folder where the .exe has unpacked the drivers. Seems a long way to go about it, but I guess you avoid also installing any ride-along stuff packaged with the driver. I frequently do this with printers since printer driver packages always contain unwanted add-ons. I don't see Aspire S7-391 in the list of supported laptops for Win 10.  Why is that so?  I purchased an Aspire S7-391 series laoptop less than 2 yrs ago and now Acer is not even supporting it anymore with driver updates? I have an icon from Microsoft that I can upgrade my laptop to Windows 10, but I don't see appropriate drivers for S7-391 on Acer's website. Is Acer planning to provide Win 10 drivers for S7-391 in a few weeks/months?

A:Win10 drivers for Aspire S7-391

Yep. Really annoying given that the laptop was released so recently. Unfortunatley I attempted the upgrade before finding the Acer "Windows 10 Update" page (http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-eligible-models) and seeing the S7-391 not supported. The upgrade went smoothly but after logging in I noticed that neither the WLAN Adapter or the USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet adapter appeared at all in Network Settings. No connectivity is a bit of a problem. Looking in Device Manager I can see that both the wired and wireless adapters are listed and are showing "This devices is working properly" under Device Status.Everything else appears to work as expected. Really dissapointed because the laptop is otherwise a great fit for Windows 10.

A:having problems upgrading from vista to windows 7 home premium or windows 7 ultimate

Are you selecting the Custom Install option or the Upgrade option? Also, is your current OS (Vista) 32bit or 64bit? What service pack do you have? You will need to know this. To check, simply right click on Computer, and click properties and you can find out there.

As the title suggests, I want to upgrade to my machine to Windows 64 bit doing a clean install. I was wondering though, since I have two physical drives installed, (one for the os and the other for media) will it just erase the contents of the drive I install it on or will it erase the contents of both drives? Thanks for any help on this.

A good friend of mine went ahead and updated from Win 7 to win 10 without backing up anything (despite my objections) and now has windows live mail but any of his old email messages are gone. I would suspect they are in the windows. Old folder in .app but not sure. Does windows 10 store the emails in the .app file like win 7?  I haven't gone over to help him yet. I am using Win 7 and will upgrade once I know that everything is working with 10.

Hi munybuny You should try to see if you can find anything under the folders listed in this article.http://www.pcworld.com/article/189238/win_live_mail_store.htmlIf they are really under the windows.old folder, it should be:C:\windows.old\Users\$USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

A:Cannot network connect to other pc and their drives in windows 10 home after upgrading windows 8.1 a

Sorry can you just clarify a few things for me and then ill do my best to help you.

The machine that has the drives connected to it what is that running?
The machine your using to connect to it?
Are they both running windows 10 now?

That error is generally when user account's are wrong.

What you should do in this situation is not use everyone, Create an account on the machine that has the drives connected to it (Ill call it the server from now on, as that is what it is).
Put a password on this account, it really does not matter what the password is, something you will remember.
Go through and share your files with this new account, so insted of selecting everyone pick this new account as full control permissions.
Go to the computer you are connecting to it with and type \\c1\c in the map network drive bit (as your example).

Tick the box that says reconnect at login Click finish. You should get a security box pop up if so skip to the username bit below.
If not and it says the same invalid password add the drive again however tick both boxes this time. So add the one that says use different credentials.
You will get a security box pop up.
In the username field enter the your "servername"\accountyoumade so for example c1\jim
enter the password you created for this account
tick remember
hit finish

That should be it and it should connect.

I successfully upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my Vostro 3500 computer, but when I tried to do the same on my Vostro 3700 running the very same operating system, I ran into trouble. On the Vostro 3700 everything in Windows 10 seems to be okay, except I cannot connect to the Internet. To make Windows 7 run properly after a complete system wipe and reinstall, I had to install two network drivers which I obtained from the Dell site. They work in Windows 7, but one will not install in Windows 10. If the Vostro 3500 can run Windows 10, it seems that the Vostro 3700 should be able to, also.

A:No Internet connection -- Upgrading Vostro 3700 from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Both the 3500 and the 3700 were never tested to work with Windows 10.  That being the case, by installing it your on your own unfortunetly.  From what I have heard most Windows 7 drivers do not work with windows 10 and normally people would install Windows 8.1 drivers as a work around, but the 3700 doesn't seem to have anything available past Windows 7.  If you are dealing with the RealTek or Intel drivers, you can go to their websites and see if there is a work around or update of drivers for your particular card.

I have an Acer Aspire 5755-9674, which came with Win7.  I got the "Upgrade to Win 10" pop-ups like everyone else, and proceeded.  After the upgrade process, I did a clean install of Win 10.  All is mostly good.I get a random FREEZE once per week or so - there is no pattern. Researching the issue, the first advice is to ensure drivers are all current.  This leads to my question: When running Windows 10 on a laptop which only has driver support for Win 8.1, is it better to use the Acer Win 8.1 drivers, or the Microsoft Win 10 drivers that were installed during the upgrade? For example, my current SATA AHCI Controller driver is a Microsoft driver from 2006!  The Acer driver for Win 8.1 is 2012.  I am concerned that installing a Win 8.1 driver on Win 10 will disable my laptop! Advice or other experiences appreciated.Mike

Problem: I would like to upgrade from Win 7 32-bit to Win 10. Nvidia says my GTS 450 graphics card is compatible with Win10; Win 10 upgrade assistant says it is not. Can I force the upgrade anyway? Nvidia has a 64-bit Win 10 driver for this card, but no 32bit version. I have contacted Nvidia about this but no reply yet. Thanks for your help.

A:Upgrade to Win10 with incompatible graphics drivers

There have been so many Nvidia issues with video card drivers in Windows 10 I wouldn't do it if Windows says its incompatible, especially if you are upgrading.
I have seen too many upgrades fail and then the recovery to Windows 7 fail right afterwards leaving the client with a reinstall of Windows 7.

Yes it will as the upgrade installation leaves a Windows.old folder which in itself will be over 20GB. You'd need a bigger SSD really.

Hi All

been here before, but when I tried to recover old accounts password emails weren't recognized, anyways wondering what the exact cost would be to upgrade from WIndows 10 Home to Pro? Currently my 8 Core System is Running Windows 10 Home, kinda missing bitlocker encryption like my old System had, and also Remote Desktop and such. (Old System was HP P6-2133W, with OEM Windows 7, 8.0 and finally 8.1 with Media Center which autoly got updated to Pro when I upgraded on July 29th 2015), didn't have unused media center key, so have to wait now til I can afford Pro version for this system

A:Exact Cost to Upgrading from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro?

If you need to connect to your Windows 10 system, you can use something like Teamviewer, rather than pay for an OS upgrade. There aren't many reasons for a non-domain computer to need Pro, so I wouldn't spend any money on it. If you have a previous version of Windows that's a Professional or above, you can just activate that with Window 10 Pro.

I have a laptop that came with Windows 8.1. The hard drive failed and has been replaced with a new hard drive. If I want to install Windows 10 on this laptop, do I first need to install Windows 8.1. and then perform the upgrade to Windows 10, or can I just install Windows 10? Will Windows 10 use the Windows 8.1 license key in the BIOS to activate? Or will this not work unless I first install Windows 8.1. and then upgrade to Windows 10?

This computer has never had Windows 10 on it.

The computer has a new unformatted hard disk that has never had Windows 8.1. installed.

A:Install Windows 8.1. on new hard disk before upgrading to Windows 10?

The newest download of Windows 10 will read the Windows product key in bios stored in bios and use that to both install and activate with as long as the ISO you download contains a version of Windows 10 compatible with the version of Windows 8 the product key is good for.

So recently I picked up an Elgato Game capture HD, to find out that the software required to use it only runs on Windows 7 & 8. I have Windows Vista Home Premium...

... I was wondering if there is a (legal) way of upgrading to Windows 7 or 8 for free? I read online (2009 article) that you can upgrade using the SIN code on the bottom right hand side of your computer.

I think it's about time that I upgrade haha.

If it helps, my computer is an Acer.

If anyone can help, I'd really, REALLY appreciate it!

How do I uninstall my old nForce driver and install the new one?

I had thought that nForce drivers would be like other nvidia drivers in the control panel's uninstall programs area, but I found only graphics and network drivers there.

I believe you would be better off buying the upgrade disk. I do not know of anyplace Vista can be downloaded legally. But, if you can run Vista, I would advise you to check if you can run Windows 7 instead which is a much better option. You should also make sure if there are Vista or Window  7 drivers available for all of your devices.

Hello, I wanted to upgrade my main computer to windows 8 by buying it and installing it. But I want to use the windows 7 copy that is currently installed on my main computer on my secondary computer that is still on vista. I know how to find the product key which I have, but I don't have an actual physical disc copy of windows 7 so how will I install windows 7 without a disc with the product key I have?

So Pretty much I guess I have to get windows home premium ISO file and type in my product key. But I want to be sure I get this file legally. It means nothing without the product key anyway.

A:Upgrading main computer to Windows 8 and using my Windows 7 copy on another

I don't know of a surefire legal way to get a Windows 7 image anymore (without re-paying for it). You might be best off trying to find a friend that you can borrow the disk from. Microsoft used to offer it for download, but I'm not sure if you could get it without buying a key at the same time, but in any case, I couldn't find that anymore since they are pushing Windows 8 pretty hard.

After upgrading to Windows 10 how do I know which drivers I need to update?  Although the Veriton M498G has a Dual Core Intel i5 CPU 3.2Ghz, the Intel Driver Update Utility doesn't find any drivers at all.The drivers listed for the Veriton M498G on the Acer support site only list drivers for Win7.  How do I know which drivers to update?  My BIOS is Acer P01-A3, 5/27/2010 How do I know if I need a BIOS update?  Will any driver and BIOS updates be compatible with Win10?

bios need to be updated to P01.A4:http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_P01.A4_A_A.zip?acerid=634235850029180643... drivers normally will be updated by windows update when you are connected to a network connection (ethernet cable or wifi). you can check if something is wrong, looking at Device manager for Yellow exclamation mark:windows logo key + xDevice manager

Internal HDD was erased and our intent was to install a fresh copy of Windows10.  Bootable USB media works on other machines as well as the Z Book, but just after the Windows10 Setup starts, it asks for drivers for some device(s?) in the notebook.  It doesn't say what drivers are needed and Windows10 setup can't continue without them, apparently.I think this is a G2 model, if not a G1.What drivers could i possibly need? And where could I get those drivers in the proper format that Windows would accept?
