I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). is the resolution better than 32-bit?
It looks the same to me. 64bit is all about performance. Nothing to do with resolution.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/37254-does-64-bit-version-have-better-resolution-graphics.html
Resolution says it is at 800 x 600 and Color Quality is at Lowest(4bit) and it doesn't have any other option when i go to the drop down menu.
I just got a new HD and Graphics card. I installed them correctly and don't know what I did wrong. Any ideas?
My in-laws have a computer they are convinced suites their needs and that nothing is wrong with it. Its only about 10 years old. Problem is it only runs in 16 color and I can not change the resolution. I tried updating the drivers to no avail. I also tried putting a new video card in. Nothing...it still does not work right. The PC has like a 800 meg hard drive with a 233 processor. I am trying to convince them to buy a new PC....maybe use the old one for a boat anchor or something......any ideas would be most helpful.
You put in a new video card, and still couldn't change the colour setting?
That you can't change the resolution (to any higher) could be due to the monitor, but that shouldn't affect colour settings...
Which video card did you try?
As for getting a new computer... In which country do you live? "south east" doesn't make it too easy to find prices for you...
But you should be able to get a nice new system for a couple hundred $... (It won't be top of the line, but still quite a lot faster than what you've currently got..)
What are you going to use it for? (That'll help us find the deal most suited to your needs...)

hi i am new to gaming and recently received a G-Force 5500 128mb graphics card but dont understand how guys tweak the graphics cards for better performance.
I would also like to know how do u i change ny screen resoultion to smaller than 1280 x 1240 as i dont have another option smaller than that.
The game doesn't support your graphics card. Min. Graphics to play is needed an Nvidia 6600 graphics card.
You cannot play with resulution 800x600 up to. Your graphics card doesn't handle that. And you can do your video settings in your options section in the Video Settings.

Will a Geforce 4 MX 4000 with (i think) 128mb ram be able to run a widescreen lcd monitor with a resolution of 1440 X 900?
It isn't on the supported modes list when i go to my display setting, it has lots of resolutions higher and lower than 1440 X 900, but not that.
None of my other computers support it either and i have never heard of that resolution although it seems to be common among widescreen 19" monitors.
Also, will games support this resolution?
(and please no crap about "your system sucks for gaming")
I have not included my sysinfo because my question is general, unrelated to my current computer.
In choosing a new computer, I am asked to decide if I wish a discrete graphics card or integrated motherboard circuitry. To make this decision, I would like to understand the relationship among the factors that would, I think, determine the sharpness of the display I would view. They are, I believe: 1. the throughput of my ISP (download speed of 1 Mbit/sec); 2. the stated resolution of the graphics hardware (e.g. 1280 x 800); 3. the choice of the web-site's video (e.g. 360p); 4. other factors.
I am an engineer and have some understanding of technical terms, so feel free to use them as necessary.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi I have some weird problems with my display The weirdest part is where it worked fine for years available only Graphics not / 1 recognized Card resolution and suddenly it doesn t work at all My HDD just failed so I had to get a new one and installed Windows XP SP on it Suddenly nothing seems to work anymore Everything besides the HDD Graphics Card not recognized / only 1 resolution available is the same yet my graphics card is no longer recognized properly It is an Nvidia GeForce GT sure but for whatever reason the driver installs it and Windows recognizes it as an Nvidia GeForce SE briefly Windows tried to auto-install it as but failed I tried everything installing from my original driver disc installing the Nvidia automatic driver detector downloading and installing the GT driver directly Still All I can ever get is the SE And another possibly related thing is that I only Graphics Card not recognized / only 1 resolution available have x or x or some other very low resolution available Windows display shows all those fancy settings but setting it to x or x or anything else does nothing whatsoever the resolution stays absurdly low I tried re-installing my monitor driver but it s already installed and I cannot get a new version because apparently Samsung discontinued support for it S A BL One more problem I only have a single monitor yet Windows says I not only have but also the main monitor is the imagined one and in the display settings I cannot change it In my Display Properties the settings tab has nothing to set up multiple monitors no monitor icon no checkbox for the main monitor nothing I d REALLY appreciate some help because this is really weird and confusing and causes me quite some problems My System DxDiag http pastebin com xVeed e nbsp

About a month ago when I purchased a in TV with a VGA PC input I gave away my regular computer monitor I think I TV, Integrated and resolution graphics, problems. made a big mistake Ever since then TV, Integrated graphics, and resolution problems. I haven t been able to get into my BIOS play games or even install different operating systems TV, Integrated graphics, and resolution problems. I was under the impression that the bios screen displayed in x resolution and my TV just didn t support it and that s why I couldn t see it The screen is completely black and sometimes says quot Input Not Supported quot until I reach the login screen for Windows on one computer or the Ubuntu login screen on my other computer However last night I was sick of not being able to do anything but be in Windows so I set the resolution of the Windows PC to x and it worked So does that mean the bios screen is in x or whatever that resolution is After changing it back I remembered the integrated graphics ATI Radeon HD had an HDMI output so I switched TV, Integrated graphics, and resolution problems. to that and guess what I could now see all the screens I couldn t see before BIOS and games The sound was nowhere to be found though I m guessing it was trying to send the sound through the HDMI cable now and it just wasn t hooked up right Not only that but the screen looked very bad through HDMI and wouldn t even fill the whole thing out no matter the resolution So basically what my questions are Is it a problem with my TV graphics card or maybe even the drivers for the graphics Why am I not getting sound through HDMI What resolution does a computer typically display in while in the BIOS menu and operating system loading screens Why doesn t a new game like Far Cry default to a resolution like x Or does it but something is just wrong somewhere nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/tv-integrated-graphics-and-resolution-problems.817857/

I don't even see how you got XP to run on a 10 year old computer, and I say run lightly - it's probably more like a crawl! But, to answer the question I'm gonna say You're Doomed!!!!!!!!! Until you get the new computer..........
Out of nowhere I had a graphics card error saying it will no longer run. I did not manage to get a screenshot which makes it hard for me to explain.
The problem has caused My desktop icons and basic resolution to be relatively larger than usual and everything has a slight fuzz to it. ( as if I am running in safe mode)
Other than that my computer works perfectly and World of Warcraft which I play everyday works normal and honestly slightly smoother.
reinstall my card? first off I do not know where its located. RADEON 9200SE
Might be an idea to re-install the card, but maybe first thing to try would be to re-install the drivers. Or even install updated versions of the drivers associated with your card.
Ok so here is the problem: When I had vista and/or xp i had the abilty to go above 1024x768 but now I can only chose between 1024x768 and 800x600, So can any one help me.

I have an Intel HD (core i5) graphics card. I'm trying to go past the resolution of 1366 x 768 which is the highest already. There is a custom resolutions tab in the Intel Control Panel but it's not doing anything at all. Is there any way to go to a little higher like up to 1600 x 900 or something?
The maximum resolution is set not by the graphics adaptor (assuming there is enough available RAM), but by the monitor or other device you are using - It would appear that you are using a 16:9 TV monitor which has a native resolution of 1366 x 768, as there are only 1366 x 768 pixels available even if you increased the resolution manually it would not improve mattershttp://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/167508-intel-hd-graphics-custom-resolution.html
I have a Nvidia GTX 580 GPU
I have just bought a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM - running a resolution at 2560*1440.I know it's not a gaming screen, but I still manage to run games pretty well.
But I'm thinking. If I get a better GPU will that make the games run even better at 2560*1440 ?
Yes. In general a larger, more powerful graphics card will run games better at higher resolution. It can get much more complicated than that, but in general, this is the deal.
For best advice about what to expect in higher performance from any particular card over your 580 (which is no slouch by the way) you could ask here, or better, over in the Gaming forum where all the graphics-heads hang out. They start talking about Frame Rates and Cuda Cores and I just glaze over!
For instance, when you compare your 580 to my 660 you can see that in some categories your card is better:
A friend wants to buy a monitor with higher resolution but needs to know what resolution is supported by the graphics What is my card? graphics resolution the of highest card I know in winXP I can turn off quot What is the highest resolution of my graphics card? Hide modes this monitor doesn't support quot in display properties and What is the highest resolution of my graphics card? see all the supported resolutions in the quot list all modes quot button Does this work in windows I ask because using remote debugging on my friends' computer even after turning off quot hide modes this monitor doesn't support quot no higher resolutions shows up max out x which is the current resolution I find it hard to believe that is the max Even a ten year old graphics card would support at least x and this is a years old acer pc with intel i cpu There is only one video output a vga port The quot graphics card quot is a built-in chip quot intel hd gr quot according to device manager It uses share memory with M of dedicated memory Is there a utility that can query the video card and display all resolutions
Have you checked your settings in your Control Panel?
Is this what you're after?

I'm planning to buy a new wide-screen monitor for my PC that runs naively at 1680x1050 screen resolution.
The problem is that when I check display settings, I see that the max resolution available is 1280x1024 (my current monitor's native resolution). Would plugging in the new monitor automatically expand the resolution options, or is there something I need to do first?

Also, HDMI? Just assuming...
I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bits
My motherboard has an onboard graphics card that works just fine. I installed an old PCI graphics card in order to use more monitors (TNT2 Riva by NVidia). The card is so old that it doesn't have a driver for Windows 7 64bits (it seems that it works in 32 bits)
As a result Windows 7 uses a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" as the driver, the monitor and card works but it wont let me go above 1024x780, is there any way to force a higher resolution in this driver? Both my monitor and card can support it
I doubt if any pci card will work with 7 64 bit.http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/277348-standard-vga-graphics-adapter-wont-let-me-go-1280x1024-resolution.html
Images those on webpages and graphic displays like a Trillian instant message window or the Warcraft launcher box are showing up at something like one and a half times their normal size It s altered the appearance of everything from the way warcraft looks in game to Oversized Monitor To Related Graphics, Not Resolution. the size of user icons on livejournal and the size Oversized Graphics, Not Related To Monitor Resolution. of the menu bars in IE I m reasonably certain it isn t the monitor resolution as I checked it and Oversized Graphics, Not Related To Monitor Resolution. it s still set at like always I tried setting it to a Oversized Graphics, Not Related To Monitor Resolution. couple different settings and putting it back to see if it would somehow refresh itself but nothing changed I tried playing with the DPI settings as well but that only changed the appearance of text size increasing or shrinking it as I raised or lowered the DPI I also tried windows restore to a time last week when the graphics were normal but it changed nothing The only setting I ve changed on my computer in the past week was to disable the ATI quot CLIStart exe quot as I was receiving CCC exe errors at shutdown and that was the recommended action on several sites But the images didn t change until two reboots and the following day after I did that My computer was fine when I got up in the morning I turned it off went to work and when I booted it up ten hours later when I got home BAM weirdly sized graphics I restored catalyst control center s ability to preload at startup back on but several reboots and two days later images are still the wrong size I used CCC to restore factory defaults on my card s settings in case turning it off somehow changed something but that didn t do anything either I have an ATI Radeon HD graphics card and Win XP Professional My monitor is a Westinghouse L NW Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor
I think I'd remove all my ATI installed drivers/software...and just try again. Possible file corruption, IMO.

I am using an Intel DG43RK motherboard onboard graphics connected via HDMI to a Sony KDF-55XS955 HD TV. When activating the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, the recommended resolution is 1920X1080. At this resolution the desktop is too large for the screen. I lose the entire taskbar, the top 3 toolbars and both sides. I have tried changing the display modes on the TV to no avail. I've tried changing the scaling in the graphics control center, When I change the scaling nothing happens even though I hit the "apply" button and confirm the change. To get a useable desktop, I need to drop the resolution to 1600X900 to get a useable desktop. That res leaves about a 2" border around the desktop, which isn't the end of the world, but it leaves the screen a little blurry. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what I am missing?
According to the specs on Crutchfield it appears that your Sony KDF-55XS955 has a native resolution of 1386 x 788 and can support 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i ... could find no reference for 1080p. If you can set your resolution to 1386x788 that might do the trick, if not try trying going to 1280x720 which might scale better than 1600x900.
This is a pretty tough question I suppose, and I wasn't sure where to post it.
i've somehow managed to crack the LCD screen of my ThinkPad laptop on the right-hand side, leading to the formation of black and coloured lines on the screen.
I'd love to change the resolution so that this part of the screen was excluded and I could keep using the laptop normally, but it turns out that the Intel graphics card in this computer doesn't support custom resolutions, only 1024x76 and 800x600.
I imagine that a way around this might be to change the default size of a window, so that if I open an application it by default doesn't use the entire screen, and if I hit the 'maximise' button it goes to the custom resolution instead of the whole screen.
Is such a modification possible?
Any help would be massively appreciated!
Changing your screen resolution will merely change the resolution of the screen, not make it smaller. Your best bet would be to get the screen replaced, or live with the crack.
I just updated my 5800 series Radeon, and now my display won't go past 1152 x 864. I know my laptop can go to 1440x900. What's going on?
Sounds like the update hasn't installed correctly.
You might want to uninstall the drivers in Uninstall a Program and graphics adapter in Device Manager, and then reboot and reinstall the updated drivers.

It is SO irritating to not be able to let my kids play these old games.
I have had success disabling the "explorer.exe" in the task manager, but ONLY when playing the Age of Empires 2: Conqueror's Expansion. This method has not yet worked for any other game.
My old Myst games from Cyan and a bunch of others refuse to be clear enough to play and enjoy.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Welcome to Sevenforums to you!
I will be providing you with links that you may click that lead to a tutorial part of this website for a how-to.
Make sure you have windows completely updated, along with every one of the games. Also, make sure your drivers are updated, especially your graphics driver. If you'd like me to find the appropriate one for you and a how-to, fill out your system specs with this tool.
Try putting your game into compatability mode: Compatibility Mode
Failing that, lower your graphics resolution and settings through your graphics control panel. If you'd like more of an explaination, please ask.
It is unusual, but some antiviruses may get in the way of the game. While I don't recommend disabling a much needed antivirus while connected to the internet, you might try it as a test. What antivirus do you use? I can offer recommendations based on how well your antivirus performs according to my experience, if you would like.
To more easily find drivers compatable with your computer, you can set windows to find them auatomatically: Compatibility Mode. Then you can check for updates and see if there are any "optional" drivers available to you.
I was simply curious if anyone knows if the resolution (i.e. 800x600, 1024x768, etc.) and color graphics (i.e. 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit) settings for your desktop display have any effect whatsoever on how good games will run on your computer?
For example, if Computer A's desktop settings are at 800x600 with 16-bit color graphics and Computer B's desktop settings are at 1024/768 with 32-bit color graphics, and then you fire up Half-Life 2 on both computers, will the game run faster on Computer A or Computer B?
And if it will run faster, can you explain how/why?
Sorry for such strange questions.

Weird. It seems that you definitely have the wrong resolution.
Sorry if I am asking you old stuff but. Did you set the resolution through:
Right click desktop/personalize - Display setiings -
With your card, I would say also that you could set it to 72, although that is not a factor with your problem.
ANother area you might want to look in is Control panel/Ease of access(I'm using the Control panel -classic view) Look under "make the computer easier to see" Look particularly under "make things on the screen larger" It should be on 96DPI.

Hi. I have a problem with my integrated graphics card not fitting the resolution to the screen. The resolution is always too big. It would be nice if i could get this to work, because i edit videos, and i only have 1 Square monitor that isn't even really that big. I have tried going into Windows 7 Screen Resolution to tinker with settings, but no success. So then i went into the Integrated Graphics card settings, and nothing worked there either. I am stuck at a lose. I have a picture, showing where the picture gets cut off on the 19". Windows Media Player is set to where i can see it. Any bigger and it would get cut off.
So i have solved this issue by myself. Not saying how, but i did.http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/326831-intel-hd-integrated-graphics-wont-display-proper-resolution.html
Hi guys I'm having a very strange issue on my fathers computer He has a Packard Bell imediaS with W It has no graphics card just the standard VGA It has worked fine for the last three years However last week it kept getting a blue screen related to the graphics adapter and would take ages to start up it would hang at Starting Windows It would work fine in VGA and Standard issues Graphics adapter resolution startup causing safe mode but in normal operation I noticed that in Device Manager the Standard VGA Graphics adapter causing startup and resolution issues Graphics part has a yellow exclamation mark even though it had the latest drivers I did a fresh reinstall of W and on the defauly VGA drivers the computer works fine on standard gfx driver but the resolution is not correct it's very zoomed in Even when I list all Standard VGA Graphics adapter causing startup and resolution issues modes the correct resolution is not available When I update the driver to the one via Device Manager and restart the computer hangs at quot Starting Windows quot again but would launch fine with Safe Mode I then have to roll back the driver to and deal with the zoomed in screen Would really appreciate some help as this is something my dad can't resolve himself Thanks
Hi Welcome to Seven ... I think you have an Intel GPU .. So i suggest you Download the Intel Driver Utility .. It is in the Link below ..
Intel? Driver Update Utility
Even though the 14 inch laptop panel supports 1600x900 (Dell part number MJ154) the max resolution i can pick is 1366 x 768. No higher options are shown
Am running Windows 10 64 bit and i tried some 2015 drivers from Karl Sabo but no joy. I realise that Dell dont officially support this old laptop, but it works fine in all other respects.
I also tried downloading an Intel driver utility but it scanned the laptop and said there were no suitable drivers
I noticed in Device Manager that the laptop screen is detected as "Generic PnP monitor". Could that be why its limiting the res, as it doesnt know what the panel is capable of ?
Interested to know if anyone has their 6420 running higher resolutions....thanks
There seems to be alot of people have resolution issues at the moment with intel graphics and windows 10 it seems to be a driver issue. Can you create a custom resolution via your gpu control panel and force 1600 x 900? If this doesnt work you should get in touch with Lenovo they may have a fix , or you may just have to wait for intel to catch uphttp://www.tenforums.com/graphic-cards/37339-latitude-e6420-intel-hd-graphics-3000-nvidia-max-resolution-low.html

What does the Device Manager say? Start - search 'Device Manager' - Display Adapters. If the AMD HD 6800 is not listed here (what I think you meant by 'it does not show up as existing on my system'), that's step number one. Right-click 'Display Adapters' and select 'Search for hardware changes'. Windows should recognize the GPU at this point (may require restart after installation). Then go to the AMD site and try to download the latest drivers for your GPU. You might try their auto-detect software available here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx. Once the discrete graphics card is recognized you should easily be able to change the screen resolution by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting 'Screen Resolution'.
First of all, I apologize if I opened this thread in the wrong Section.
Onto the problem~
After installing War Thunder, I realized I needed to upgrade to a newer version of my Graphics card. So I opened Device Manager and went to upgrade the graphics driver, but said It's up to date, so I go to the AMD website ( I have a ATI Radeon HD Series Graphic card, which is supported by AMD ) to download a new one, I enter the correct information here which gives me this to which I download the first one, all's fine and dandy, but once I reboot, the Screen resolution is much bigger, and moments later I'd receive a BSoD. So is there anything I'm missing? Much appreciated

Hi I've received awesome help from this board before so I decided to come try my luck once again My full system information can be found here So the deal is this I've had this happen twice to me now - on viewing some videos my computer hangs the screen gets all grainy and chunks of varying color and texture appear in seemingly random areas of the screen The PC promptly blue-screens up viewing after player). (Flash Graphics/resolution messed Megavideo and restarts This Graphics/resolution messed up after viewing Megavideo (Flash player). is when the system starts running on minimum resolution and color depth Even though a start-up notice from windows tells me I can get a better picture Graphics/resolution messed up after viewing Megavideo (Flash player). if I increase my Display settings in reality I cannot - if I move the appropriate sliders and hit Apply it flickers the screen but nothing actually changes The first time it happened I decided my graphics adapter needed its drivers uninstalled I was relieved to find out that for the first time in my life installing drivers worked In a few days I had forgotten that it was Megavideo that caused my computer to fail so I made the mistake of watching something again - everything happened again just as before I tried re-installing the drivers but this time it didn't help at all the system started up in a better resolution this time although not quite as high as the one I regularly use but when I tried tweaking it up a notch everything became grainy and disgusting again As I am writing this everything looks like this Am I looking at a fried graphics card Something else entirely I'll be humbly awaiting any sound advice please dumb it down for me I'm not all that great with computers and respective jargon

Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056

When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). Best to bookmark this page which lists all the downloads for your z240 Windows 10 64bit tower system so check it out periodically.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Updating-Firmware-for-Z240/td-p/5575077

Hello, does the HP Z240 and Z230 have the Same Power Suplly?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z230-Z240-Power-Supply/td-p/5738621
Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989
HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). Thanks for any hints Tomhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z240-add-SATA-card-no-working/td-p/5725275
Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?
@jeffparker? Yes I believe you can add them. I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. Cheers!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Z240-Tower-Compatible-with-GeForce-GTX970/td-p/5676932
I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. This is verfied once one of the monitor is turned off, the same keypress pattern lights up on the keyboardSetup: z240 with 2x23" monitor connected to Display-ports, HP smartcard keyboard and mouse connected to rear USB. BIOS version 1.11 (SP74759)Has anyone experianced similar issue or anyone has a fix for this?
Same here.New Z240 workstation with Xeon E3-1245 v5 and two monitors HP Z24n, both attached on the motherboard's DisplayPorts.OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Sp1 with latest patches and drivers (including monitors' one), BIOS (01.27 Rev.A) I found two workarounds: power down and restart, or briefly attach another DVI monitor. I will try your trick to power off a monitor. P.S. Initially I had the same problem using two Samsung DVI monitors and HP DisplayPort->DVI adapters. I thought it was a problem with the signal conversion and changed monitors. Probably this post is an instance of the same problem:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z-240-Video/m-p/546...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z240-boot-issue-with-dual-monitor-setup/td-p/5531610

It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284
Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
Hi, I?d like to install a media card reader (e.g. HP 468494-005) into the shared internal/external 3.5" drive bay of my HP Z240 SFF workstation but it doesn't fit. It probably needs a carrier of some kind, because the casing is just a bit too wide and there are no holes for the standard screws. I couldn't find any instructions on the HP website. Hello. I am currently working on getting a fresh installation of Windows 7 on our HP Z240's in order to create our standard business image. I was able to install Windows 7 Enterprise but am having one issue. Whenever the workstation goes into sleep mode it will do a hard shutdown. I've installed the latest drivers found here for the chipset, graphics, NIC and sound. The issue still occurs. I've done the same on three different workstations and have experienced the same issue between all three. The OEM Windows 7 installation has no issues on the same exact workstation. Can anyone assist me with this? Thank you!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-with-Windows-7-Hard-shutdown-before-sleep-mode/td-p/5673196
Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Missing-Z240-Network-Driver-after-booting-to-Windows-in-SCCM/td-p/5600498
Ok - First off Im using a quot Dynex TV as a monitor hooked in through a VGA port on the TV When I start my computer the screen jumps around and it says 'detecting signal' settles on x during boot When - issue resolution from monitor resolution my I windows?? can outside change windows starts to open it jumps again for a moment and goes to x the right setting for it I was playing Metro and its too slow in so I reduced it to x which apparently the TV cant do it just went black so it reset to monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows?? I was trying various resolutions some were too wide too monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows?? skinny etc and accidentally clicked on again screen went black and this time didnt revert I restarted my computer and now after the phase in boot it doesnt go to like it should but at the opening to windows where you put in your password it switches to after it jumps to adjust a few times it goes black like in the game it tells me detecting signal normal then no signal detected which is what it tells me if I have it on say component with my xbox turned off or video with my dvd player off or even VGA with the computer off for that matter What Ive tried I tried turning the monitor off and on to see if I could adjust the settings back while it was adjusting before going black but it just stays black I started up in safe mode which was x and it was ugly but worked I tried resetting the resolution but it only gave the base options and that was only for safe mode it didnt hold when I selected or and restarted in regular it went back to and went black I tried going through the TVs menu options and theres no setting for resolution the tv detects it on its own I tried switching to component with my on hoping itd readjust for the settings which it did and then have to readjust going back to VGA but it stayed black Basically I think I need to access some file and tell windows to boot in and not in if it helps I still had vista installed hence me being able to even do this so I can do it either through command prompt or preferably through vista in notepad I have a nvidia geforce vid card if that helps Thanks SO much if you can help
does the Nvidia card have any software which could manage screen resolutions? If so you can try that in safe mode....
Also, tap F8 on startup, but instead of safe mode chose "enable VGA mode" which should cause windows to boot normally, but in 800x600 (or something of the like, that just about all monitors and TV's support)
I have a Sceptre -Inch LCD TV X BV and I use by game stuck Resolution at Resolution 1080p; changed an ASUS GeForce video card I am connected to the TV using a top of the line HDMI cable that has ethernet built in I was using this cable to connect Resolution stuck at 1080p; Resolution changed by game my computer to the TV and it displayed fine at x This was great for my games and all other programs I was using I attempted to install a new game called Metro and when I launched the game it must have detected that my system is really good and set to display the resolution in p Now my TV does not support this display and now won't show anything except in safe mode where the resolution is set to x I am just not sure of how to get the computer to now NOT display in p when I boot up windows normally I have tried using the F menu to reset the resolution and everything I am a competent computer tech who has much knowledge However I am just not sure how to change a resolution when you can't even see the screen and you can't see the screen because you can't change the resolution It's a catch- I will never understand engineers or programmers in the least PLEASE HELP I have even hooked it up to a p TV and turned the resolution down but when I hook it back up to the p TV the settings are still set at p for some reason It's like whatever display it's connected to that's what settings it's going to use automatically I am just out of options except for a re-format PLEASE HELP
Before I re-install the OS I would try this:
Boot up in Safe Mode and log in with an Admin account.
Uninstall the Device and Driver for the Video Card (see link below).
Re-boot in Normal mode, and Windows should detect and re-install the device.
Go from there to update the driver as needed.

If that one game is the problem, I'd uninstall it or search for answers how to configure it to not cause the problem.
I also suggest learning System Backup Imaging, so going forward you can easily recover from problems without re-installing the OS and all programs.

Hi I'm new here and this is my first post I looked around a Forcing Resolution Resolution Screen Native Than Higher little and found one other thread with a similar question but the question wasn't really answered I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt so I thought I'd try asking here Thanks in advance for any answers I get I will try and be as thorough as possible although the resulting question will be simple I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago It's a free online game called Continuum Subspace and there are user created quot zones quot or variations of the game within the game if that makes sense I play in a zone called Trench Wars It's a top down game meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area map you are playing in You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves Well I Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map It works just like your desktop in essence The higher the resolution the smaller the icons but the more space you have In the game the higher the resolution the smaller the ships are but you can see more space around you Obviously this Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution would give an advantage to anyone playing on a higher resolution as they would be able to see their enemies and fire before the enemy even knew they were there My native resolution for a quot LCD TV is x This is fine Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution except when playing continuum So I tried changing my resolution to the max which is x Well the screen expanded and cut off parts of my screen everything got blurry and had a blue tint to it I figured this is probably not good for my TVs functionality as I have burnt out old monitors in the past by running too high of a resolution So I went to my NVIDIA Display Properties and started messing around I realized that changing to a higher resolution x from here still caused me to lose part of the screen but the blue tint wasn't there It's still vaguely blurry but not enough to really notice So I went to the resizing tab and resized my screen to fit at the higher resolution I ended up with resolution of x at HTz refresh I resized my icons and text and the screen is perfect now But it is much higher than the native resolution of my monitor So my question is will keeping it at this resolution cause my TV to quot burn out quot or have any otherwise adverse effects System Specs that might be important Display Geforce GTX ti connected through HDMI to quot LCD TV TV Panel Resolution - x Display Resolution Scan Rates - HDMI Suggested Resolutions p i p p i I don't know what the p and i stuff is I tried reading about it but it's so uninteresting and makes entirely no sense to me I just want to know if I'm ruining my monitor by using Geforce to make my own custom resolution Thanks
Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.
smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy
i have a samsung monitor that have 2 slots, specifically for DVI & VGA
and i also have a GPU embeded: inno3d GT430 that also have 2 slots for VGA and DVI
i got this new DVI cable from a friend so i tried to upgrade my display from VGA to DVI
the problem is i cant see any differences between the two
things ive checked so far:
nvidia settings ressolution tab: converted it to 1920 x 1080, 1080p
windows resolution settings: 1920 x 1080 (Recommended)
so again, there are no differences between the two when i hooked them up, can anybody tell me any steps to make my display HD?
OS installed: win7 32bit
Is it running at 1920 x 1080 ?
Why do you think you would see a difference ? VGA is analog and DVI is digital, that`s it, as far as I know.
Personally, I think Samsung monitors are terrible.
Native Resolution for my monitor is x It's a inch computer monitor The reason for buying bigger screen for the computer is so that I can have more desktop display area so that I don't have to scroll horizontally to have a clear helicopter view of my subject Only then I was made to understand that I am actually restricted by the monitor resolution and hence though my graphic card can support higher resolution it won't work So my problem right now is setting the Resolution Graphic Resolution Monitor > Card graphic card with a resolution of x is giving me blurry images and text The desktop display area is wide enough to satisfy my need Graphic Card Resolution > Monitor Resolution but the blurring object is not acceptable My general question would be If the graphic card higher resolution doesn't help because it does not match the monitor is there any smart software that can give me more desktop area with clarity given that resolution constraint What other alternatives do I have without getting rid of my new monitor
What graphics card do you have? Sounds like it is not powerful enough to fill the resolution you are looking for.
So I'm creating a program for a friend but we are having trouble trying to display things in a 1280 x 1024 resolution.
Is there any way to create a custom resolution on my laptop or monitor of 1280 x 1024? Our monitors don't have this resolution listed in the display settings, or is this a driver issue?
The resolution availability can be affected due to the graphics card installed. I will have a think about any other factors which may affect the resolution.
Screen Resolution - Display Settings
The tutorial's information box explains which factors that affect your screen resolution availability.
Hope this helps,
