Preferred Solution: Bios Setting Wrong Ram Speed After Upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
Firstly I should state that I've never overclocked before and know almost nothing about it.
I'd being having problems with my PC so I decided to update my Bios to the latest version (I'm using an MSI motherboard if thats important??). This seemed to work fine, It didn't solve my initial problem but thats solved now. I've noticed though that my AMD XP processor is now running at 1250mhz when it should be running at 2000mhz. I have no idea how to fix this and would greatly appreciate any help/advice anyone can offer.

Thanks in advance.
Rick.

A:Flashed Bios now cpu is at wrong speed, Please help

Well I'm not familar with the XP BIOS settings, but you should have two things, an FSB clock setting, usually 200MHz and a CPU multiplier setting, usually X9 to X11. So that 200X10=2000MHz.
But it seems to me that you might have installed the wrong BIOS, very odd that default settings for your mobo would have changed to that degree.
Did you try setting BIOS to fail safe defaults?

My old CPU was 2.40GHz and I replaced it with a 2.53GHz. System information and BIOS still show it as 2.40GHz. One thread said go into BIOS and change the CPU setting but I can't do that in my BIOS, it just states what the CPU is and the speed, it doesn't give the option to change anything. Is there anything I can do, or is this enough information? I have XP SP2 and an ASUS P4G800-V motherboard. Will clearing the RTC RAM do anything for me? I'm looking at the manual for my board and it mentions that. I know just enough about computers to mess things up really bad, that's why I'm here asking for help first.

So I got this new computer right, and the processor's supposed to be an AMD Athlon XP2600+ CPU. The motherboard's got DDR333 slots, and I'm told the RAM I have is DDR400.

When I start up the computer, it says AMD 1150 Mhz, and that the memory frequency is DDR200. Surely thats not right, so is there somewhere in BIOS I can go to fix this problem?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

can under or overclock the speed of the memory stick ,but not much here,to,see real change need to change the mhz make sure all ram is 133mhz if motherboard can handle it.if one stick is slower they will all clock to that one

Is it even noticeable?Click to expand...

not just that change ,good for a real memory draining app.

shadow video ROM,if running nt this should be disabled OS will run better

you will never see 56kbs through put,I don't know where you got those speeds from ??settings or actual internet clocked speeds??
if this is a setting could be your isp has you set here
can be changed ,may increase connection speeds

I called dell they told me in not so many words my motherboard was Fried and they would not replace it.

Dell just saying it's a "possibility" the motherboard might need to be replace. No one can tell you that motherboard is definite "Fried" without first looking at the system.

I have just purchased two mother boards and processors and need some help on figuring out how to set up the clock speed and FSB speed on them so they will run properly with the processors I have installed on them.

1st Motherboard & Processor

Motherboard: Giga-byte GA-7VAXP
Processor: AMD 2400+
RAM: 512 Mbytes PC2700 (333Mhz)
Clock speed options: Auto(default), 5x, 5.5x, 6x...12x, >=12.5x
FSB speed options: 100Mhz, 133Mhz, 166Mhz

2nd Motherboard & Processor

Motherboard: Giga-byte GA-7DXE Version 2.0
Processor: AMD 1600+
RAM: 128 Mbytes PC2100 (266Mhz)
Clock speed options: none
FSB speed options: 100Mhz, 133Mhz

Can somebody tell me where I should put the initial settings for these so they work with the processors. I would hate to leave them at their default settings to find out I am losing speed because it was not set properly. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

My Sat M30 laptop start with an bios error. The error says "Resource conflict, edit bios setting or boot" If select "boot" computer hangs before windows completely starts. I remove the wi-fi and the modem module and the same error appears. I can't upgrade the bios because the windows don't start. The bios version is 1.7. The laptop is UK version. If select "edit bios", bios start but I can't find any resource management.

Thanks

Hi

I think the error ?edit bios setting? means that you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS back to the default settings.

Please do this, save the settings and try to boot up!

I was poking through my User Account Controls because I noticed that some permissions had changed when I noticed the Edit Environment Variables. In the space that names the Operating System (O S) it says Windows_NT instead of Vista.

I don't know that much about computers, but I know which OS I have and it ISN'T Windows_NT. It's just Vista Home Basic.

I have also noticed that deleted files and programs magically reappear about a week later and it's starting to freak me out but it's probably a glitch or something?

Anyway, I just wondered if I was looking at that setting right and understanding it.

Thank you!

I just set up a new desktop, an hp pavilion p6-2378, with AMD A8-5600K APU processor, and RADEON HD 3.6GHz graphics. I have it hooked up to one of those older HP flatscreen monitors (pavilion 1503) that are fully height adjustable and tiltable. I *love* this monitor for what I use it for. However, HP does not provide a Win8 driver for it, and when I go to display settings in the control panel I'm given only ONE resolution option (1024 x 768 "Recommended"), which cuts off a large portion of the bottom of the screen! The option to click and change the resolution is greyed out. The device driver is listed as "Generic PnP Monitor." Is there any "generic" monitor driver for Windows that will let me change the resolution to show the whole screen??? Or give me other options besides 1024 x 768??

A:Only ONE resolution setting, and it's WRONG!

OK, I solved my own problem, if anyone has a similar issue and can't work it out in the Windows 8 display settings. I used the menu buttons that are built into the monitor to reset it to factory settings. It looks like maybe Windows 8 overrode the original settings for some reason, but it's working OK now... Hopefully it will stay that way.....

What does it mean when the screen that comes up before windows xp comes up... the black screen that tells you about your system comes up with a message like this

CMOS settings wrong
CMOS memory size wrong

What does this mean? How did it get this way cause I never made changes, and how can i make adjustments. When I hit F1 to enter set up it brings me to the standard CMOS set up. The date is January 21, 2003. I seem unable to change the date. On exit and continuing on to windows and opening up to my section, the clock is wrong as well as the date... it also reads January 2005. Can someone help me make the appropriate changes to my computer CMOS?

A:Cmos Setting Wrong

Sounds like your battery is getting weak. Pick up a new one and put it in. Take the old one with you so you get the right one. After you put it in go into the bios check your settings, then exit and save. Suggest you go into bios and write down the settings before you remove the battery

So I just bought a new Mobo/RAM combo.

Mobo: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3.

RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GB (2x2) 1600MHz kit.

Everything booted up fine (installing Windows as I type this), but when I went into the BIOS to check up on things, I saw that the RAM was set to 1333MHz. Now, I've never messed with RAM settings before (timings, speed, voltage, etc) so I could definitely use a little help here.

Thanks in advanced.

First of all, you could tell what is the CPU revision?! If C2, bad news - this revision has problems with memory controller. If C3, we can proceed. Well, I don't know the BIOS of your mobo, but I hope AWARD. The timings are those described in the packaging of memory - usually come printed on the sink too. Make changes to the BIOS only in fields that concern them. Do the same in the fields of voltage and speed. Save the changes and reboot the PC. If something goes wrong, like BSOD's, or other instabilities, it is likely that the voltage of the northbridge needs to be increased. In this case, test a micro-increasing voltage at a time, saving the changes in the BIOS and rebooting the PC. I must warn you about the risks of overclocking, so be aware.
I wish you luck and I hope it was useful!

I recently installed an S3 Graphics Savage /IX graphice card and now the Device Manager always shows three monitors:

Digital Flat Panel (640X480
Generic Television
Plug and Play Monitor

I am using Windows XP Pro. When I boot, the system always comes up in 640X480 then I have to go into Device Manager, uninstall the flat panel and the generic television before I can change to a higher resolution.

The manufactures web site is no help. I have loaded the latest driver I can find.

Thanks in advance.

A:Wrong setting in Device Manager

Did you disable the onboard graphics card in BIOS or change the setting to AGP there?

I accidentally reset the Mouse driver to HDI Compliant and now cannot work the mouse.

I was looking for a reason the keyboard keeps becoming non-functional and only had the mouse to work with... restarting in Safe Mode got the keyboard functional... but, now I do not know how to navigate to the area where I can reverse the driver back to what it was for the Mouse.

In the end, the keyboard has twice stopped functioning overnight and the only thing that reinstated it was restart. Could there be a port problem? When I removed the cable and re-attached it originally, nothing happened. When the mouse setting was changed by me accidentally (didn't know I was changing it), I removed the keyboard from the port and the lights went on for a split second.

Do I restart with F8? Will that restore system to the original Mouse choice? (there were only two).

Thanks for any advice -

Does the "1.92GHz" mean my processor is running slow?

A:Wrong AGP speed?

Some things you might try.
1 Do you have fast writes enabled in the bios? If so, try disabling them. If they are disabled, try enabling them.

2 Chipset drivers should be installed before the video driver. I would uninstall your video driver with the ati uninstall app. Now reinstall your chipset driver and then install the CAT driver and control panel. Are you using the new cat control center by chance? If so, that is somewhat buggy. I like the driver with the older version of control panel; it is still available from ati.

It would seem the FSB has been reset to 100MHz & simply need to be set back to 166MHz. In order to do so, it's better to look for the manual that came with your motherboard or if you've lost it, download it in PDF format off the manufacturer's website.

Hello

When I boot up my machine, It goes straight in BIOS and says

" During the last boot-up your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system perfomance and reliability, make sure the CPu speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU."

I have an AMD ATHLON XP 2400.

When I go in my CPU speed setting all the choices I have are MANUAL 1500 2000 and neither of them work it keeps going back to BIOS message.

PLease help me.
Thanks Ronnie,

Hello all, I'm hoping you can help me out.
My setup is:
AMD 1.1 proc
256 DDR Kingston Memory
Asus A7M Motherboard

My problem is that I did a reformat last week, and now my computer reads the processor as an 850 instead of 1.1
Anyone know of a way to correct this? Hopefully without reformatting again.
Any help would be appreciated.

A:Processor speed wrong

You need to change the multiplier/frequency settings in the BIOS for the processor.

Go up one step at a time, until you get to where you need to be.

If all of a sudden your computer wont boot, reset the CMOS.

**NOTE EDIT**
Reformatting should have nothing to do with it, the only thing that changes is the hard drive. What's wrong is in your BIOS. However, I'm not too familiar with that low speed processor but I'm more than certain it is a BIOS problem.

Some of you may have read my last topic... but this concerns my GOOD xp computer rather than the old crappy one which I upgraded.

Anyway, just tonight when I plug a usb device in, it is taking ages for the computer to recognise it and sometimes it won't recognise anything being plugged in at all. One time I even got that 'plug into hi-speed port' even though all the ports are usb 2.0

Just started to happen, made no changes to the system or devices...

No yellow question marks on device manager.

Thanks guys

A:Hi-speed ports - going wrong.

Update your drivers, if that doesn't work it's possible you have a faltering mobo.

I just finished building my new christmas pc . It runs great, but the only problem is that my memory is supposed to be DDR3 1600, but when I boot my pc on the black screen ( BIOS post? Something like that ) it says something like DRAM 800. My Motherboard supports up to DDR3 1333.

So my question is, how do I overclock this memory to 1333?
On the stickers on the side of the sticks it says 9-9-9 @ 1.65v, which is the latency I think.

This is my memory.

A:Wrong Memory speed

Download and run CPU-Z and go to the "memory" tab. (this is a handy app to have anyway)

Make sure the memory is in "dual channel" mode and if it's 800Mhz dual channel, you have 1600Mhz RAM.

You can also go into the BIOS...if you built the computer, you will know how to get into the BIOS. There will be memory configuration options there. Make sure you are at the right speed and voltage.

However, your POST screen "should" be showing 1600Mhz. Most POST screens I have seen tell you the actual speed. You could try using the "pause-break" key to stop the POST so you can have a look at it. Use the "print-scrn" button to continue with the POST.

Hi there,

Soon i am going to be getting some old computers from the school, re-formatting them and then completly re-installing the OS,AV software, and a firewall. I was wondering what would be best for a computer that is about:
266Mhz, 64-192mb RAM (most likely 64mb), and about a 2-5Gb HDD, also possibly a crappy GFX Card.

One thing to keep in mind is that most people who are recieving them will probably be incompetent, so i think that a version of windows will probably be the best option, i have 98,2000,XPhome.XPpro.
Im guessing that 98/2000 will be the best, im pretty sure that they will already have 2000 installed so that will be a good bonus.

Thanks,
Ph30nIX.

A:Setting up a low speed computer, what software to use??

Anything under 128MB RAM definitely Windows 98SE.
Make life easy for yourself and give them all W98SE.
If for some PCs you decide on W2K, format in FAT32, don't use NTFS, those disks are too slow.

And DON'T use the PCs the way they come. Format and reinstall from scratch for ALL of them!

Welcome to TechSpot

As so many others, you have "fallen" for the speed of an AMD Athlon XP.
Their values such as "2400+" mean: comparable to an Intel processor running at 2400MHz. The actual speed of the AMD CPU is lower, in your case 1800MHz.
Technically you have an AMD1800. But as it performs equal to an Intel2400, it is marketed with its "comparable to an Intel2400" moniker.

I am a 62 year old computer junkie. I have a PC Chips 1.4 P4 computer with 384 megs 2100 ddr ram. When I connect to Earthlink I am told that my connection speed is 26.4 kbps?
I have a 56k modem. How do I improve this number.
Thank You in advance for your help! bobk

A:Looking for help setting proper modem speed

If you use an internal Winmodem, replace it with an external V.92 modem.
Check your telephone connection box(es). Use as short as possible a lead from outlet to PC.
Visit http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
That test works on dialup as well.

Best of luck

Dear users,
I have this little problem I do not know how to deal with.
I had to reset my CMOS somehow but when I reboot on Windows Xp I have since then trouble accessing some web sites which claim they are using invalid security certificates and some programs which rely on Internet connectivity to function send me a "wrong time setting or signature expired" error making them impossible to run.

Could anyone help me?

Thank you.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and in Xp my overclock showed correctly. As 333X10.5=3500 but even though my bios settings are still the same and all c1e is turned off, windows 7 is showing that i have 266x10.5=2800. cpu-z shows this aswell, including asus utility (every program i've tried has said the same)

Any ideas as to why windows 7 shows this? and is windows 7 really underclocking my system? or is this just windows 7 showing inaccurately?

A:Windows 7 showing wrong CPU speed.

Don't forget to turn off both C1E halt state and also "speed step", unless the bios settings were messed with that should work. But in most cases and if you aren't overclocking those settings can save power and are very useful.

Make sure you aren't using one of those lame Windows overclock utilities because they will mess with your bios settings big time.

Hi,

I am running Windows XP PRO on my intel P3- 733mhz. When I was in Win98 and Win2000, windows was reading my computer as a 733, But since I have installed XP it reads my computer as a 433. However, when my computer starts up, on the black screen, it does say CPU spees: 733. I am assuming that windows right now is running at 433. I would like it to run at the speed at which it should be, a 733.

How can I fix this?

A:Windows XP reading CPU speed WRONG!

Where are you getting the info in XP that says XP thinks that its a 433? Could you post it here please?

All versions of Windows should pick up the speed of the PC from the BIOS settings. If the BIOS is still showing it as a 733 at startup then XP should also be showing it as a 733.

Causes of faulty speed pickup range from bad PSU or flaky external power supply, to faulty mobo or incorrect multiplier jumper settings.

If XP definitely says its the wrong speed, please post back some more details of your system and its specs, particularly mobo.

I?ve been running my CPU (Q9400) overclocked at 3.2 Ghz since I put windows 7 in, I have just changed my RAM and can now get my CPU to 3.3Ghz, only a little more I know but Windows reports the CPU at 3.2 Ghz still, CPUz is reporting 3.3Ghz, same as bios.

No big deal but does anyone know why it might do this?

A:Windows 7 reports wrong cpu speed?

I have seen Windows do this before. It's so close, Windows is not a precision tool. Trust the BIOS and CPUZ when it comes to CPU frequency.

I had similair problems as here:
http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?threadid=136457&

In BIOS I selected Load optimal configuration and set the cpu-speed
to 2500+ (AMD-processor). Save and exit.
The first time it seems to work but when I restart the computer
the cpu-speed says 1100 mHz (which I read in the BIOS was the
internal frequency).
The second problem is that I cannot shut down the coumputer in any
other way then to shut down the power.
Thank you for any hints.

Now I ve been on dial-up since I had my own home computer which would be about years now and finally I will be getting wireless and up speed high Setting network cable internet before the year is over I was just wondering what to expect how everything generally gets set up because I honestly can t say I know exactly what I ll be doing I know I ll have to hook the cable line into a modem but from there I m pretty much lost The cable line is about - feet away in the other room which makes me wonder if it d be necessary to get a wireless router and how would I go about setting Setting up high speed and wireless network THAT up Then how do I still get the cable hooked up to the television if it s connected to the modem If anyone would be so kind as to let me in on how this is all going to work that d be great I know computers fairly well so I ll understand explanations but since I ve only been exposed to dial-up personally I m clueless Thanks nbsp

A:Setting up high speed and wireless network

wow, still on dial up all this time?

Am not sure if true for all cable, but i can tell you from what i know a "splitter" is connected to the incoming cable to split the data from the TV stuff. so you have a single connector but will end up with two wires.

So you'd have
incoming cable <Splitter> Data only cable <Choices> Computer

where Choices could be

1) just a cable modem, or
2) cable modem to a router , or
3)Combination modem/router device

With just one computer you wouldn't need router for its connection sharing but don't know if needed for other reasons

Also, you should check and see what the cable company will charge you for cable modem monthly rental vs. what it costs to just buy your own of whatever (assuming you know what you need)

e.g. I think RCN was gonna charge $5/month when i first got my cable (their fee since dropped to $3/month). But i bought my own for about $60 or so... like 5 or more years ago.. so good to figure out what works for you

@FrozenGamer? If your PC takes 3 minutes to boot in a factory condition then you should contact HP support. If your PC is less than 21 days old then quickly return it.  Without any modifications, your PC should be booting up in less than 30 seconds. I haven't seen any official HP posted information that supports NVMe m.2 SSDs.  Run the HP Support Assistant and see if it picks up a later BIOS update. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

The 100MHz bus is correct, you have a 2.8GHz "Northwood" Celeron CPU, the bus runs at 100MHz and is quad-pumped (sends 4 instructions per clock cycle instead of the traditional 1), so Intel's marketing department calls it "400FSB". It doesn't actually run at 400MHz. A 533FSB bus actually runs at 133MHz, and an 800FSB bus at 200MHz. The 128KB cache is correct, that's all the Northwood Celeron has, the Northwood Pentium4 has 512KB (and also runs at a higher FSB, either 533FSB or 800FSB, although some cheap models were sold with a 400FSB). The "core ratio" is 28, that means it runs the CPU at 28 times the bus speed, 28 x 100MHz = 2.8GHz.

I then put my old 3200+ proccessor back in and it only shows a speed of 998MHz instead of the specified 2.0GHz. Is this just because windows doesn't recognise AMD processors very well. Or is something wrong?
Many thanks.

Hi

Before trying to update the BIOS, all passwords should be removed!
BIOS password can be removed by authorized service provider available in your country.

But the unknown HDD password cannot be removed anymore.
In such case the HDD isn?t accessible and cannot be used.

Sorry mate but in my opinion you have only one chance to get the BIOS password removed; you need the ASP assistance.

A:Dell Inspiron 518 BIOS v1.0.7 64 Bit Vista DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS

No it happened to me too.  Dell is replacing the motherboard under warranty but I was told somewhat firmly not to update the BIOS unless advised by a technican.  In my defense the BIOS update was listed as "recommended" under the download section for this unit on the Dell support website.
I would recommend to avoid two phone calls (over 40 minutes each) to tech support and several days waiting for a new motherboard, not to update the BIOS at this time.
Thankfully it is being covered under warranty.

Dear All I have a question regarding BIOS upgrades as well as downgrades First about downgrading BIOS is it a safe thing to do If not then what makes it not safe I have Dell Inspiron M with the latest BIOS A Not happy with this one due to high pitch sounds coming from of upgrade down know BIOS Is safe? do downgrading if How of BIOS successful is or you the top right hand corner of the laptop It s been suggested that I downgrade only a couple of revisions back namely to either A or A However Ive been getting conflicting reports about the Is downgrading of BIOS safe? How do you know if down or upgrade of BIOS is successful safety of downgrading from Dell Tech Support Some say that it s not done at all others say that as long as it s only to downgrade back to a couple of previous versions then risks are not as high as going all the way back to a really early version such as A etc The risks I m told is in the performance Is downgrading of BIOS safe? How do you know if down or upgrade of BIOS is successful of hard disks Apparently if you downgrade to a really early version such as A then problems will arise though I m not sure what the exact problems are Moreover there are those who say that there is no procedure for downgrading Is downgrading of BIOS safe? How do you know if down or upgrade of BIOS is successful and that it is never suggested to anyone to downgrade their BIOS The notion that it becomes riskier as you downgrade back to a really early version of BIOS such as A baffles me because in my case prior to doing any kind of updating for BIOS on my laptop I had version A and have not had any kind of improvements enhancements done to my computer whatsoever in other words my computer is the same as when I got it last year in terms of hardware In terms of software I have not changed my OS of Windows XP home edition with SP I only added iTunes Firefox Thunderbird plus software for a corded keyboard Therefore the claim that reverting to a really early version of BIOS such as A would pose a greater risk than reverting back to A or A does not make sense for my computer worked fine with A and I have not changed any of my hardware My reason for upgrading is because Dell Support software popped up in the bottom right hand corner saying I needed to upgrade my BIOS to A so I did that then discovered after that there was a critical update of A which I installed as well and which I have currently Another question I have is this how do you know for sure that an upgrade or downgrade was successful Although I have yet to do any downgrading when I updated my BIOS to A then to A the download for these two files went fine I did not get any error messages Even after I flashed the BIOS with A and A I got a message saying that the update was successful However is it possible that even with a message saying that an update was successful that there may be some glitch and that the BIOS was NOT updated properly I ask such a question because ever since upgrading to A I ve been getting a high pitched sound from the top right hand corner of my laptop The noise is not consistent in a sense that it was always present just after updating to A but now it is only present when I first power the computer on after it s been shut off completely and when I put into Standby then come out of it the noise always disappears Thank you for your time and any help you can provide me with Sincerely Lavender PS I would also like to add that with all the Tech Support I spoke to at Dell except for one guy they were all very hesitant if not down right against downgrading What makes downgrading so dangerous risky As I understand it upgrading or downgrading BIOS is about erasing the previous version of BIOS and installing another version If that is the case then the process for downgrading and upgrading would be the same for flash BIOS would it not If so why is upgrading OK to do but downgrading is something not done and is considered quot forced quot Isn t upgrading quot forced... hi there, i am fixing a friends old computer and the hdd was stuffed so i got a new maxtor diamondmax 9 for it. although once installing it i found out that it would only run in udma2 mode (checked it in another computer and it ran at full udma6)
so i suspect that the current bios cannot support udma5 or 6, so i am looking for a bios upgrade for it.
the bios string is 6A69RPRDC-00, the number on the actual motherboard is 35-C960-00-05
thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
thanks again

ps. i just found this

if that is any help.

A:help with updating bios. cannot find bios upgrade - 6A69RPRDC-00

WOW..............

Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)

I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).

You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
Try WWW.driverguide,com

You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.

otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

A:How to utilize on-board fan speed control when your fan has the wrong connector

One thing isn't clear to me. Isn't the 3 pin connector supposed to be plugged into the motherboard. Some, though not all, motherboard fan power feeds have a sensor for the 3 pin connector that comes with the fan. The molex is an alternate power feed for the fan, although as you said always full speed.

Did you not have a free motherboard connector or was the cable too short? Maybe I just misunderstood.

On my desktop computer my setup with Cox Cable guarantees me download speeds in the range of 11,000-15,000 kb/sec. However, while my desktop is being re-set up, I am on the laptop, and even though Cox assures me I should be getting the max speed (we tested it online), I can only download two sources at once and those are at speeds of around 25-80 kb/sec.

How do I change the setting to download more sources at once, and b) is it most likely individual servers that are the villains here, and not my laptop? Thanks.

I've bought the new amd processor Semprom 2004 and I have also upgraded my asus a7v8x-x motherboard bios. After the upgrade it set up automatically to clock speed: 166mhz and CPU frequency multiple to: 10.0x

I want to know if this is correct. I do know that the processor runs at 166mhz, but I'm not sure what this cpu frequency multipple means. What would be the right value to put? Is 10x ok, or should I put a higher value?

A:not able to go my bios setting

Hi, Shut down the notebook by holding down the left Shift key as you click on Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot. Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu.  If it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu. Regards, DP-K

hi there just bought some ddr400 ram from crucial 2 strips of 512. anyone know what the bios setting in mhz should be 4 this i.e 133mhz or 166mhz

A:ddr 400 ram and bios setting 4 it help

200 MHz.

However, depending on the mainboard, if you have four memory sticks installed, it might limit the speed to 166 MHz.

DDR = Double data rate, so 200 * 2 = 400.

A:Re-setting BIOS?

You are right that you need a BIOS update - a computer from 1996 will not be able to see a 30GB hard drive, or maybe any over 8GB.

IBM is where you would get a BIOS: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/dlsear...=0&cc=us&q=2144-A14&dc=&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

The link above is for all downloads for what I hope is your model - double check. There is a BIOS update from 1999 which is good as most 1999 BIOS' add support for drives up to and possibly over 32GB.
