I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
Shockingly none worked that I found.
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
Worked with an off brand battery also.
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.
Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

Ok this might be might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)
---> Low battery level ( you can change it to 20%)
So I hope this works!
Reply me back when you've succeeded fixing it.

I have replaced the battery of my laptop after using it on AC supply for about year after my old battery died.

I get this error message.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined

This problem might be solved by:
Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher."

But I am using a 65W Dell Adapter that I got with my laptop.
BTW, I tried the steps for disc AC >> Start>>Uninstall MS ACPI >> Insert battery>> Restart. This process did not yield any favorable results.

Is the battery OEM or an aftermarket battery?  How old is the battery? I know of Windows 7 OS having issues with recognizing some batteries and were relatively easy to fix.  I do not know if it carried over to Windows 10.  I will have to look up the article to find any relevance.

My Dell vostro 1510's battery is not charging beyond 92%.What may be the problem

A:battery charge

When was the last time the battery charged for 100%? Are you using an original Dell adapter for this model? Is the adapter frayed? When the adapter is plugged in to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Does the system overheat? Does the battery get very hot? If so, remove the battery and let it cool down to room temperature for about 2 hours and then try connecting and charging the battery.
Update the BIOS -
Restart and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS and the battery health(if available).
Remove the battery and check the battery health meter by pressing the battery gauge.
If the battery is old and is not durable, then you could get the battery replaced.
Assuming there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a battery (if in stock) -
You could also get the battery from a 3rd party Dell parts seller -
My personal suggestion, is that, if you are using the system in one place, then you could continue using the system with the adapter plugged in - as a desktop machine and that you could invest your money on a new machine.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Every so often when I plug the adapter in a message box will pop-up saying I'm running on battery mode and sometimes if I giggle the cord, the message box will say a/c mode. My first thought is that there is possibly a short in the cord (?). This is my first laptop, so I don't have a lot of experience with batteries. Could it be possible I need a new battery? I've had this for a couple of years now. Normally when I use it, I run it plugged in so as not to run the battery down.

Two things come to mind.

It may be the DC socket connector that you plug the charger into. (especially because you say it changes when you wiggle it)

Also, have you tried running the computer without the battery plugged in, with just the charging adapter, to see if that works? That would resolve a faulty battery question.

I've bought Dell Xps 15,9550 and it's amazing, but the problem is I can't plug off the battery, and I use my laptop all the time "literally" and I was a little bit disappointed because I want to keep my battery in a good condition, untli I knew about Dell Command Configure Wizard, which gives you an option to change the way your battery is charging, and there are 5 ways: Standard Charge, Express Charge, AC Use, Auto Charge, Custom Charge, but I really don't know what's the best for my condition.
Like I said I use my laptop all the time and I'm afraid that if I kept the laptop charging while using it all the time, the battery may get in a bad condition.

I would say it is possible that the power port is broken again, or not fixed properly the first time, if the battery puts out its charge it should be able to take a charge, meaning the circut boards onboard the battery should be good.

Are you using the original Dell adapter for this system model? Is the adapter frayed? Does the adapter stay in firm when plugged in or does it fall off easily?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter connected. Also, wiggle the adapter jack at the end and check if the adapter status changes at any point.
Test with another power adapter if possible.
If the port is loose, then the DC port needs to be replaced otherwise, the adapter needs to be replaced.

It totally depends upon what you're doing, how much graphics, how much sound, how much HD thrashing, and other factors. Because your was my question some time ago, I've been using the free version of BatteryBar -- it pretty accurately tells me how much battery I have left.

I recently purchase a Chrombook a few days ago and I couldn't find the battery icon on my hp i read that it just needs to be fully charged to see the battery icon but its been charging for 2 days and it still doesn't pop up. Also it doesn't turn on when its not connected to the battery cable, which kinda sucks have to connect the cable to be able to use the chromebook.

So I have an HP computer for about 2 years now. I took it on a vacation and it got down to low battery so i turned it off. Now when i plug it in it doesn't charge. Not only that, but the laptop itself turns off even when plugged in. I bought a new battery and that did not fix the problem. It does hold a small charge if i leave it plugged in while turned off a while. It did charge up a little to about 75% then it started going down again. Thank you ahead of time.

As the title said, my dads ASUS A52F refuses to charge. It dosen't charge anything. I bought a battery some months ago on eBay, didn't work. I bought another one from eBay(not the same seller) and the same result happened, it didn't want to charge. Note that it dosen't charge the original battery either. Is this a problem with the computer or the batteries?

A:Battery not wanting to charge

Hello Laith mate sounds very much like the charging circuitry has gone south. First up I would check the terminals for signs of wear or arcing or straight forward damage. If there are no visible signs extrenally you may have to go looking inside the machine to see if there are any signs of scorching on the PCB's or dry joints.

You may need a multimeter to test the rails in that circuit too.

Funny thing, first it won't see my primary battery (which is probably normal, the dumb thing only held 5 minutes anyway, it most likely died), second it will not charge my select bay battery (which holds 3.5 hours of charge) if the laptop is off, it only charges it when it's on. If I have it plugged in when it's off to try and charge it the Power LED is green and blinking and the Select Bay Battery LED is amber and blinking and no charging happens. I tried removing the primary battery to see if it was causing this and it still did the same thing...anyone know what causes this? It's a Tecra 8100, PIII 750, 512mb ram, Windows 2000 SP4. I checked the manual, it's says nothing about the power light flashing green and nothing about the battery light flashing amber. Thanks for anything guys.

Hello! I have a question that has been bothering me for a while, my dad just bought a Toshiba Laptop Satellite A-135 with Celeron M (basic entry level) which the battery only last about 1.5-1.75 hours, is that normal?, I've seen some Toshiba with Centrino last over 4 hours (maybe more, not sure). I heard the centrino CPU's are much more efficient with the Battery duration, I believe is not a brand problem but my questions are:

1-The charge of the battery depends on the low energy consume CPU or the cells on the battery it self? or both?

2-In case the answer is just the battery, can I just upgrade my dad's battery Laptop to make it last longer?

3-If CPU matters, which is the best on that matters? C2D? Turion64x2? CentrinoDuo?

A:How long does Battery Charge last?

This all depends on how many cells it has , and how the computer is used. It can be 1.5 to 4 hours, but 1.75 of steady use is about average.
There are a bunch of tricks on the website for reducing the power consumption, thus lengthening the time that the battery provides power. Look for battery power management.
This is, however, why the Toshiba Satellite is a lower cost laptop, than the Toshiba Tecra and other Toshiba laptops.

A 9 cell battery will give much longer power life than a 4 cell or 6 cell... but the cost is remarkably higher.

X1 Carbon, gen 1.Windows 7 and Debian.Battery won't change past 60%. In windows, it shows the battery as 100%. The Battery Manager software says that the battery is in poor condition, and can only store 60% of its original full charge capacity. If I charge it to 100% in windows, and boot Linux, it shows that the battery is actually charged to 60%. It charges up to 60.15%, then discharges to 60%. acpi -i shows that the battery is only being charged to 60% of its full capacity, as well. However, it Windows, shows this charge as 100%. It only runs for about 2 hours (being 1.5 months old). In the beginning, it could run for 4-5 hours. I suspect that a software/firmware update has put a limit on the battery charge level. Is there anything I can do to get the battery back at full capacity? 2 hours simply isn't enough for an ultrabook...Martin

Not sure if this is a Vista thing or a Dell thing but the computer (Insperon 1545) will not charge the battery when plugged into the pwr adapter. When booting there is a message that says the wrong adapter is attached and to use the correct one. Also in the tray when I mouse over the battery icon it says "Plugged in, not charging". I have tried a second pwr cord without success. I have read forums suggesting that Dell uses a 3 wire cord and that the middle pin is there to tell the computer what adapter is attached. The computer runs fine when plugged in to the adapter it just will not share with the battery. I am trying to make the computer ignore the "incompatibility" and allow the battery to charge. It's the Lenovo Energy Management settings.Go to Control Panel >> Power Options >> Change plan settings >> Change advanced power settings >> Lenovo Energy Management >> Enable Lenovo Energy Management.Change the battery setting from "Optimized Battery Health" to "Maximum Battery Life." By only partially charging the battery, the software is prolonging the lifespan of the battery itself.  This is true of all laptop batteries.  If you often leave your computer plugged in, it's best to keep this setting enabled.  If you can anticipate your mobile useage in advance, you can just turn off the feature at appropriate times. It would be nice if the setting was easier to change.  If somebody knows an easier way, feel free to post it.I suppose you could always put a shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Energy Management\Energy Management.exe" on your start screen, taskbar or desktop.  Alternatively, you could put a shortcut on the desktop, assign a hotkey to it, and super-hide the shortcut (a little more advanced).

Actually, this happens to me on occasion with a similar laptop. Try unplugging the power cord from the outlet and from your computer for about thirty seconds and then plug it back it back in. If it doesn't start working after doing that three times, restart your computer. That usually fixes it for me.

Meaning that to use it, it would have to be plugged in CONSTANTLY. After a while I got tired of this (and I know it's not great on my computer, either.) So, I bought a new battery, which worked for about 2 days, then had the exact same problem. I'm really irritated because my computer says on startup that "my battery isn't holding maximum capacity," and that I should replace it. Do I need to put the battery on my laptop and switch on the adapter to charge it up without switch the laptop on?

When I am using the laptop, do you know what is the per cent when the battery get low that I need to charge it up?

Is it ok to charge the battery when the battery goes to near 10% or more when I'm using the laptop?

And do I have to charge the battery 4 times in one day?

I need to be careful as I don't want to damage the laptop battery that wont last to a year if i am not being careful.

Thanks in advance

I've looked through the archives a little and haven't found anything about this topic, so I thought I would ask. The battery charges just fine with the computer off, but with the computer on, the little battery icon flashes on and off once the battery gets to a lower level. What that level is I don't really know. Also, and I'm afraid of the response to this, but I have to position the A/C adapter cord to a certain angle to get a good connection. I've tried cleaning the contacts to no avail.

A:Battery will charge with computer off only

Perhaps two problems. The positioning of the cord means something wrong with it or the plug on the laptop. The charging problem might be a problem with the charging circuit in the laptop (MB). Would be nice to blame it all on the laptop plug, but not sure we can do that.

It looks like we can add the Yoga 15 to the list of badly designed Lenovo models with battery issues.  I just got my Yoga 15 on Monday, and by Thursday the battery was continually saying "plugged in not charging."  It's still running on AC power, but the battery is gradually diminishing.  I'm using Windows 10 64 and haven't installed any other power or fan management software. I haven't seen any other mentions of Yoga 15's with this problem, so if anyone has a solution for this model, I'd be grateful.  There is no OneKey software on this machine, so the solutions offered for the Yoga 3 don't apply here. If you're thinking of buying a Yoga 15, caveat emptor.

And now more fun: when I called tech support, they told me I don't have a warranty, not even the standard warranty that all Lenovo PCs ship with (I bought direct from Lenovo). Like I said, if you're thinking about buying a Yoga 15, there might be better options out there.  Better companies ,too.

I've been looking around the web and see a lot of people have the same problem, but their solutions haven't worked for me. I've tried uninstalling/installing the ACPI compliant control battery thing, shuting down my laptop and taking battery out/in in many different combos, but nothing's working.

The only way i can get it to charge is to turn off, remove the battery and reinstall the battery before turning back on and plugging in. Still never gets 100% charge. So my only option for now is to use plugged in constantly. The laptop is less than a year old.
