Hello We are going to be purchasing a lot of HP Z Tower Workstations from our supplier in the future and I have been given one to QA in our environment nbsp We currently use HP BCU to make available and enable the TPM on our current HP systems We are using version of HPBCU Today Workstation HP TPM PPI Z240 I have downloaded version of the HPBCU to begin creating a configuration file for the new Z workstations nbsp The problem I have is that the TPM PPI physical presence settings are nowhere to be found in the UEFI BIOS firmware user interface What we want to do is suppress the prompt that would allow users to deny HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI modifications This is was possible in previous incarnations of HPBCU on different models of workstation in the form of the following setting nbsp Embedded Security Activation Policy nbsp nbsp F to Boot nbsp nbsp Allow user to reject nbsp nbsp No prompts nbsp Unfortunately this is not in the file created using on the Z and as I said nothing appears in the user interface I have checked under Security gt TPM Embedded Security but the only options I see there are TPM Device and TPM State nbsp Is it possible to configure the physical presence settings on this model of workstation using HPBCU If not then I will need to reccommend an appropriate alternative make HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI model where it is possible nbsp We deploy scripts that run HPBCU through configmgr SCCM and can't have this prompt annoying our users and potentially allowing them to deny the change nbsp We also can't have technicians HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI visit every Z to configure this manually Our I T estate is fairly large at computers so automatic management is crucial to us nbsp Any help would be massively appreciated nbsp Many ThanksC Solved View Solution
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). Best to bookmark this page which lists all the downloads for your z240 Windows 10 64bit tower system so check it out periodically.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Updating-Firmware-for-Z240/td-p/5575077

Hi, I'm wanting to install 2 x 3.5" HDDs in my new Z240 SFF Workstation. There is a bay that already came with an insert and one of the new drives slots into that just fine. Hello, I am working on installing windows 7 enterprise 64, on a z240 SFF. I am missing the USB drivers for it. I have the driver disk that came with it and I have installed every driver that is on there, along with going to HP support software and drivers web link and downloading everyone from there. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056
I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989
HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. HP says it is possible to do so but I cannot find the option in the BIOS to enable the onboard graphics as a primary driver. Right now, the onboard graphics cards becomes automatically disabled as soon as I plug the Nvidia in. Thanks for your helphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Z240-Running-multiple-graphics-cards/td-p/5854467
Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?
@jeffparker? Yes I believe you can add them. Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
This should be easy but I can't find the PCI Serial Port Driver for HP Z240 VEN_8086 DEV_A13D. I think that's the AMT driver for this puppy.... I think its called sunrisepoint or skylake chipset? Things that make you go hmmmmm
Hi: You need this driver...the AMT SOL driver is included. This package contains the latest Intel Management Engine Software for the supported Workstation models and operating systems, as well as utilities for updating and checking status. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76501-77000/sp76975.exehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/PCI-Serial-Port-Driver-for-HP-Z240-VEN-8086-DEV-A13D/td-p/5745582
Hi, I?d like to install a media card reader (e.g. HP 468494-005) into the shared internal/external 3.5" drive bay of my HP Z240 SFF workstation but it doesn't fit. It probably needs a carrier of some kind, because the casing is just a bit too wide and there are no holes for the standard screws. I couldn't find any instructions on the HP website. Any help would be greatly appreciated!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Z240-SFF-installing-a-card-reader-into-the-shared-internal/td-p/5739086
Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. This is verfied once one of the monitor is turned off, the same keypress pattern lights up on the keyboardSetup: z240 with 2x23" monitor connected to Display-ports, HP smartcard keyboard and mouse connected to rear USB. BIOS version 1.11 (SP74759)Has anyone experianced similar issue or anyone has a fix for this?
Same here.New Z240 workstation with Xeon E3-1245 v5 and two monitors HP Z24n, both attached on the motherboard's DisplayPorts.OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Sp1 with latest patches and drivers (including monitors' one), BIOS (01.27 Rev.A) I found two workarounds: power down and restart, or briefly attach another DVI monitor. I will try your trick to power off a monitor. P.S. Initially I had the same problem using two Samsung DVI monitors and HP DisplayPort->DVI adapters. I thought it was a problem with the signal conversion and changed monitors. Probably this post is an instance of the same problem:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z-240-Video/m-p/546...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z240-boot-issue-with-dual-monitor-setup/td-p/5531610
It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284
Hello. I am currently working on getting a fresh installation of Windows 7 on our HP Z240's in order to create our standard business image. I was able to install Windows 7 Enterprise but am having one issue. Whenever the workstation goes into sleep mode it will do a hard shutdown. I've installed the latest drivers found here for the chipset, graphics, NIC and sound. The issue still occurs. I've done the same on three different workstations and have experienced the same issue between all three. The OEM Windows 7 installation has no issues on the same exact workstation. Can anyone assist me with this? Thank you!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-with-Windows-7-Hard-shutdown-before-sleep-mode/td-p/5673196

I have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 and tried everything mentioned in this thread, but cannot remove the yellow flag. Code 10 error in the device manager. registry entries are: any other suggestions? Chris
Hi: Do you have the same issue with the same hardware ID? If not, please post the hardware ID for the HDA device that needs the driver. When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Missing-Z240-Network-Driver-after-booting-to-Windows-in-SCCM/td-p/5600498
In days of yore it was recommended to create a boot disk...just in case. I don't know whether this is still in practice with Windows XP. From what I can see online...it is. I am trying to help out a small law office who is planning to upgrade to xp. I'd planned to write instructions for them for creating their start-up disks. One question I was asked (and couldn't answer) was whether each workstation needed it's own, or if they could just create one boot disk on one workstation and keep it in the safe for all to use.
Does anyone know? Thanks!
if its the same win xp pro cd (same serial) then it should work with all of them. but it also wouldnt hurt to make discs for all of them.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/67030/should-an-xp-boot-disk-be-created-and-can-workstation-as-boot-workstation-b/
A friend of mine runs a preschool and has 3 old P3 computers that the kids use for simple games. He asked me to clean the hard drives and update the OS. Somehow, they have XP Pro installed - illegal copies that cannot be updated. He has disks for NT Workstation – legal copies (two have never been opened). I want to take the illegal OS off and put the legal OS on. So far, I haven’t figured how to do that and going backwards doesn’t seem to be covered when I did a Google search on how to do that. I tried “format c:” from XP and it does not want to do that, even from safemode and a prompt window. I tried booting from the CD drive and the install program for NT Workstation does not know how to do what I want either. Suggestions?
Howdy All things being equal or/vs. ?? Workstation PC the workstations that I ve worked on seem to be faster and more agile than PC s Is this my imagination or what My reason for asking is that I m looking at buying a workstation to fool around with and try and learn some stuff I m covered up with computers but who can have too many Right Besides I m old and need something to do---- What s the advantage in having on board CPUs let s say of Workstation or/vs. PC ?? mhz vs having mhz CPU Naturally we re talking about Slot s and I ve never fooled with a Slot Specifically I ve been offered this InterGraph TDZ- GL for It has one Pll mhz CPU and a slot for another one MB ram - GB HDD s CD-Rom Floppy Video keyboard and mouse It has the Tyan-Tiger mobo ver F which will support - mhz Plll s Should I get this thing and if so----what will I have and what can I do to make it better Also what is are Pentium Deschutes Basically my computer use is fixing them building small ones and giving them away I use a computer for surfing and keeping up Workstation or/vs. PC ?? with my investments I ain t making movies or designing spacecraft Any insight will be appreciated spaceman nbsp
Pentium Deschutes are pentium II chips that started at 300 mhz and ended at 450 mhz, basically obsolete now.
Slot 1 are actually easier to work with, all you have to do is fit them into the slot and put the cartridge retainers into the locked position. Slot 1 cpu's are obsolete and out of production now as well. Makers have gone back to the PPGA/FCPGA package.
Dual motherboards of equal size (say two 450's versus a 900) are a tad bit slower than the single chip version as far as I know.
Only reason I can think of that a workstation is faster is the limited software and applications that are run.
Does anyone know of a place where I can d/l a copy of NT workstation for free? Please let me know.
I suggest you read the Forum rules This thread is closed.
Anybody know where I can get the drivers / servicepack etc so that I can get USB to work on an NT 4 system?? Tried MS KBase but can't seem to hit the nail right on the head ( all around it tho, )
Cheers in advance
Offically Microsoft doesn't support USB ports on NT 4.
But you can use third party drivers, such as: http://www.bsquare.com/products/devtools/usbwin40/
i was just wondering what a workstation is. i'm kind of confused over the definition. i've seen dell advertising their Precision line of workstations with all the high end stuff (intel xeon, nvidia quadro, etc.) costing $$$, while i saw an ad at one of my local whitebox stores advertising what they call a workstation which is an intel celeron based system with el-cheapo parts selling for under $400 CDN. i aslo went to a local university library a couple weeks back and the terminals where the library catalogs are put are also call "workstations".
so what is a work station? i just want to know
In the modern day of marketing common words are stretched to mean anything, no point in getting exited over meanings..
A workstation may mean just about any computing device sitting on your desktop.
It may also mean a powerful personal computer (not only in PC sense) used for engineering and design.
The classical and most correct (IMHO) definition is a non-PC desktop machine, usually running UNIX. Workstations are made by Sun and SGI for example.
I'm not sure what you would call it but I'd like a log of sorts on a specific workstation ie: internet usage, my IT guy is unaccessable at the time and I'd like this information today. Would I get that info from our firewall, network, or from the local machine? Thank you for your help in advanced.
This would be via network monitoring or auditing-reporting from the firewall. Not usually on the local workstation.
my workstation has been redirected. And it is like remote is trying to takeover. I must have left something open.
Hi laps12 and Welcome !
Could you provide additional information. What are the redirects? What do you mean by "remote is taking over". Have you tried any scans?
hey how does this VMware Workstation work?
it seems that you can run a os on a os
is this good soft ware and is there any other ones
its got a virtual thing or some thing
am know quite a bit about computers but i havent tried this virtual os thing
i like to run xp in win me so i can run win xp games and software or even vista in win me
Hi starcraftmasterVMware Workstation will indeed allow you to run an operating system within another. You say you want to run XP within ME. I am guessing that if you are running ME then perhaps your PC is fairly old and might not be up to running VMware. It would be best to vist their site and check out the system requirements for running it. http://www.vmware.com/products/ws/Note that you can trial VMware for 30 days before you have to part with your money. There are alternatives to VMwareMicrosoft's Virtual PC is free and can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en However it is not supported on ME.Sun's Virtual Box is also free and can be found here http://www.virtualbox.org/ Again you will need to check out the system requirements for running it.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/203602/vmware-workstation/
The IT guy here ordered a new workstation for me (without asking me what to get)
If it is not going to be considerably better, I will let that workstation go to someone else and wait another year for the "chance" to ask for what I want.
Everything else about the new workstation (Dell Dimension 3000) is an improvement. My only question is about the video card.
Existing: NVIDIA GeForce 256 AGP (Dell)
New: Integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2
Does anyone hve any opinion on the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 card? Is it any good? better/worse than my existing card?
hello I have taken the liberty of stripping this unit down to just the O S and the basic hardware My problem up workstation freezing is this unit keeps freezing up after a few minutes and no keyboard mouse nothing responds except a cold boot The unit consists of a mainboard Asus A A w ddr and SDR I use two DDR I have switched different types of memory already Tried DDR and mixed the brands and bought new ones The chip is a AMD GB FSB T-BIRD w fan The workstation freezing up case is a generic watt case And the Video card is a NVIDIA GeForce MX MX I am going to try and change that out Monday Other than that it has an onboard NIC REALTEK RTL PCI Fast Ethernet and I tried a Com PCI to try to see if it is the NIC causing this problem So far I have narrowed it down to the big three pieces of eqiptment because with just WIN SE loaded and no mainboard drivers the system will freeze up I tried WIN XP also and does the same So I havent tried to change the workstation freezing up mainboard yet or chip or video I am wondering if there would be a bad part or if the bios doesnt like a certain component Along with that is the fact that this unit will freeze up every minutes then after couple weeks of hair pulling it stops for a couple months I guess you can tell that its in its every minute freeze up mode cause I m going nuts Any help will be much appreciated Eli nbsp

Hey i need to know if it is Possible to place a VM Ware machine on a USB and if it can be used on a computer that doesen't have VM Ware installed on that machine.
Really need the help
My HP Workstation 8000 will not boot. I was downloading a torrent, and then opened the .avi file, and it told me to go to torrentm8.com to decrypt the file. I went to the site, didn't download anything, and the computer just froze. (could this be multiple trojans.avi?) I had no option but to turn it off. Now it will not boot, nothing on the monitor, though fans and drives are running. I would have made the HD a slave in another computer to save the data, but no one else seems to have internal SCSI. What can I do? I really don't care about the data anymore I just need the computer to work.
Malware wouldn't cause hardware failure. If the system won't even post, I'd say it's a very bizarre coincidence.
I am lookning for a program that will allow me as network administrator to view and take control of users' workstations on our LAN. Please email me with any recomendations.
What do you mean by "take control" ? Depending on which country you are from, you had better be careful that you are not infringing upon any data protection, human or privacy rights.
Recently got my hands on a Dell Precesion Workstation Workstation my new with and Problems xp Xeon Dual Core Gb Pc Gb Ide Hard drive I started out by doing a simple xp install on this machine The install took over hours It seemed to take forever Problems with xp and my new Workstation to copy the files from the xp disc to the Hdd Then when it finally restarted and tried to boot into xp it took a whole minutes to get to the windows screen I can't figure out for the life of me why this thing is so slow I mean i know i don't have the correct drivers for the system installed yet but still it should not be this slow I have much older machines in my room that for some reason run much faster I'm thinking it is something set wrong in the Bios or something I checked the site and this machine was made to work with xp It even has a nice COA sticker on the side Any idea what could be wrong Now i know that ide is an older technology and todays sata drives offer much better speed but i still should not be getting this bad of a performance out of this system Any help comments are appreciated I'm doing to do the basics today install drivers and initial cleaning of the start up programs but if you can put some light on this i would be grateful
Did you format the drive before install?
Depending on the parameter of the install it may have been doing a repair install
and thus writing all of the old information to another are.
If that was the case and the drive was near full there would be limited space for the new data.
A fresh install on a freshly formatted drive is the best technique.
I need to lock my desktop so that no one can do anything until a password is entered, that includes logout. I'm in a class where there is not enough computers for the students and every time I get up I risk someone taking my seat.
Does anyone know a safe way, either through a batch file or a safe program where I can lock everything up until a passwords entered?
I am sorry I don't have an answer, but I would also be interested in knowing how to do this.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/208040/lock-workstation/
Has anyone tried using this for booting multiple operating systems? Thoughts? Comments?
Haven't used that one Cookie but have tried OSL 2000 and it worked fine.
I have a dedicated workstation running vmware workstation with multiple desktops running on it. Is there a way that i can REMOTELY monitor/control these desktops from my main pc that i use through a console or agent???
Basically i want to see what workstations are running/off from my main pc without having to rdp into the workstation running vmware workstation.
Somehow i recently turned this feature on, and its driving me nuts. Its not a screensaver thing. After 30 idle seconds the box appears and locks my workstation. I have to ener my password to get back on. Problem is it happens after 30 seconds, so I may be reading an article or watching a video and it locks and goes to desktop. How do I turn the "locks workstation" feature off? I dont need or want it to lock the workstation. Thanks for the help.
In Display Properties, go to the Screen Saver tab, and uncheck the box "On resume, password protect".

I know Microsoft offers SQL Server, but if one wanted to learn SQL on a non-networked workstation, and do application development as well, is there a SQL package that could be installed on such a system?
I have a PC running XP in my shop that boots to the F8 menu. It will not complete booting using any of the choices. It goes partway, displays the XP loading screen with Safe, Last Known Good and Normal options.
Then it resets itself and goes back to the menu.
What version of XP? According to the COA on the case it's XP Professional.
I've tried a couple of recovery CDs but their utilities to force a System File Check during boot or to use System Restore won't work because they say the installed XP is "not XP" or is Windows NT Workstation.
So I'm fresh out of ideas! I've never seen anything like this with XP. I could use a recovery CD to copy files to an external drive then wipe it and reinstall, but that's the simple yet time consuming way to fix it.
If you have any service packs installed, then you don't have the same operating system any more. If you have SP3 installed, you need the XP SP3 CD to do a system file check. You should have made one when you changed to the new OS or you have no CD to repair with.
XP is a Windows NT workstation.
I have a network Linux server and 3 WinXPSP3 workstations. On two of the workstations when I login as user, I am able to change the wallpaper and select folder options (ie classic view in control pannel). On one workstation, I get the blue screen and am unable to change it and cannot select the classic view in control panel. I have even tried to give this user administrative privileges temporarily but still don't have control of the desktop.
Thanks for any suggestions, Dave
Hi. I am on a Windows network. What would a I have to plug into my swiitch (RJ45 jack) to add wireless? At first, I thought about a wireless router...but what about the IP addresses?
First off, let's move this to networking.
Tell us something about your current network. Is this a corporate network? If not, how are you now sharing Internet, presumably with a router, no?
Hello! Please tell me your experience with the fan noise in the p70 Workstation. Notebookcheck said that the noise Is very quiet- Hmmm the fans in my P70 is always on... is the creative sound blaster x-fi mb sound card, in a dell studio, asio compatible?
is there a driver that would work for this hardware?
If you just have the Xfi "MB" option that is ONLY a software enhancement to the Integrated Audio in the PC, It's not a full SoundBlaster Xfi sound "card". I'm not sure what all the software enhancement does. I do a lot of support on the Dell users forum but it's primarily with Desktops, and very little with Laptops. The Xfi MB software is strictly an OEM product and Creative (SoundBlaster) does not offer any support or software updates.
That 1774, if it is the correct model number, must be a new model as it's not listed in the Dell downloads yet as I wanted to check on the actual sound module used (e.g. RealTek or IDT).
I have a Retail PCIe Xfi Fatal1ty on my Desktop and it is ASIO compliant and my Sonar 8.5.2 Recording program recognizes it (although I don't use it with Sonar).
I have a client with 5-6 users running Sage Peachtree Quantum. Currently it's connected peer to peer with one system hosting the files while other systems are connected to it via Mapped Network Drive.
Should I run a centralized server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 or continue running it as a workstation with Windows 7 x64?
If you don't have any problems, I don't see any reason to change.http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/222838-do-i-need-workstation-server.html
I'm looking to build a video-encoding rig for under $700. I will also play some Sims 3 while I wait. Nothing else planned for the machine. Please provide feedback for how it looks. I will be buying from Amazon. Note that all parts have been checked for compatibility.
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1220
GPU: EVGA GT 640 2GB
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
ODD: Lite-ON Super All Write DVD-RW (24x)
RAM: Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3-1333MHz
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB (Sata r3, 7200rpm, 64Mb Cache)
PSU: Corsair CX430 (80+ Bronze)
Case: Corsair Carbide 200r
Thanks in advance!
I would strongly recommend a 120 or 128GB SSD for the boot drive ($100) and a WD Caviar Black 64MB cache hard drive instead of the Caviar Blue. You could get the 500GB drive instead of the 1TB to save a few $, but it may not be much cheaper. I just built a neighbor a PC using a Gigabyte motherboard last Friday and I was very impressed with it's quality and performance! Good luck!http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/17209-workstation-build-700-a.html
Thank you in advance for any and all help provided, My father gave me a "z 600 workstation" that he is not going to use anymore(retired). I noticed that this unit can have a dual CPU setup. My question is if I can use this unit for gaming. Can I set up the rig with 2 cpu for better gaming performance? I am aware of GPU and RAMM upgrades but not to sure if its even posssible to run the 2 cpu at the same time? Will having the 2 cpu increase the Ghz speed from like 2.xx - 4.xx?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Should-I-upgrade-the-z-600-workstation/td-p/5672234
I have a gaming card AMD 7900 oc and a work station card Amd Firepro w5000. Is it possible to have both in but choose between them in windows 7? Or do I have to keep swapping between them?http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forum/helproom-1/gaming-gpu-workstation-gpu-4597455/
I have a small server with six computer hooked up. All the computers are fine except one. It can accept the server but the server cannot see it. If I try to ping it from the server or another workstation, it says it does not exist. I can ping the server from the workstation fine. The workstation has a printer hooked up to it that other workstations print to but now they cannot see it. If I run ipconfig/release and then renew, it cannot get a new IP address, but if I reboot it, it will get one. IP addresses are dynamic. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.
Here is a brief explanation of what I am trying to accomplish At home I want to be able to use my wireless connection to access another network for use on my virtual machine in order to keep my bandwidth up for downloading files and such I want my host machine to use the hard wired network for downloading files and similar things Both networks are in my name and fully paid for by me I am the network administator For both networks So i have phone as modem working on my phone and it broadcasts a wireless signal and acts like a wireless router basically Im using wmwifirouter So i want to be able to use my network hard wired at home to access certain things mainly downloads Then i want to be able to connect my vm to my wireless connection on my phone so that I can get on other websites so that im not using up all of my bandwidth if needed So basically i want to use seperate internet connections The hard wired one on my host computer then the wireless connection on my vm at the same time This may be easy and networking VM workstation i just havent found it yet The problem that I run into is when i connect my wireless i can bridge my vm to that connection but the host pc has to use that connection as well I guess what im VM workstation networking trying to figure out is can i connect to the hard wired network and the wireless network on my host computer but delegate the connections so that the host uses only the wire connection and the vm uses only the wireless connection nbsp
Ok, so I have a computer running WindowsNT Workstation 4.0. I am trying to get it to see the DSL router on the network. I am on the right IP address and have the Gateway correct, as well as the DNS addresses. I can ping outside addresses but can't not hit any sites or ping the name.
Any ideas on what else might be holding back name resolution? The DNS addresses are correct and work fine on the other Win98 stations. Thanks!
Is the DNS server a local domain server or an external ISP DNS server?
Are you in a domain or a workgroup?
The only thing I can think of, is that the DNS is part of the local domain, but your machine is not logging onto the domain (or does not even have a computer account on the domain), and thus is not being given access to the DNS server.
However, if you are in a Workgroup configuration, and the DNS server is your ISP's DNS server, then I have no idea, excpet perhaps for a slight typing error like 22.214.171.124 instead of 126.96.36.199

Every morning is the dawn of a new error...
Several months ago, I formatted and reinstalled XP Pro without any problem. Recently I noticed that when I press the Windows key & L to lock the workstation, I am sent to the main windows logon screen where the various account holders can select their icon and log in. Before I formatted, when I locked the work station a small window popped up saying "this workstation has been locked and can only be unlocked by an administrator or insert-user-name-here etc etc" My question is how do I get that window back instead of the main logon screen?
All The Best
Go to control panel user accounts select "change the way users login/logoff" uncheck the Welcome screen. Before doing this make sure that if u have more than one account on the pc that u assign each account with a password.
I've just crashed a Dell Precision 220 using the resource CD and now part way through the process its asking for the windows NT workstation CD which I don't have (inherited office resources!!). Is there anything I can do or am I stuck? Txs!!
Is their anyway to lock a Windows XP Pro workstation. With Windows 2000, I can hit CTR+ALT+DEL and then Space and it will lock. I need to be able to do the same with WinXP.
I have a windows 2000 sever and workstations that are win 95 & 98. My bosses machine is windows 2000 professional. When I browse the network his machine is seen with the servers not the other workstations. How can I change his machine to be a workstation like the rest? I think this might be why he has the problem of right clicking on something in the server taking 20 seconds for the copy window to open. Can somebody help me?
I'm thinking about buying this to run on my second harddrive. First, Is this a good windows version? Is it comparable to 2000? Is it better than Me? And finally is it worth 15 bucks? Any help with these questions would be great!!!! Thanks for your input!
If you have windows 2000 running on your system, then I personally would not purchase and install windows NT 4.0 unless you want to take a look at it and learn something about it.
It is possible that if your hardware is too new, then you may have problems finding drivers for it. Also NT does not have USB support.
You cannot compare NT to ME they fit different purposes - business vs home.
The righ comparison would be win95 or NT...( but still fit different purposes)
If you would like to upgrade the OS and find something better then ME, then get XP Home.
I have a customer running a peer-to-peer network in their office using NT workstation on each PC. They now need to replace one of the units and add a new one. Will XP be compatible with their existing setup or will we need to replace it with NT workstation?
ok get the win xp professional os edition, this will be coampatible, it will work on the network no problems
On a computer with Windows NT Workstation SP I have a HP Scanjet c hooked to the parallel port no printer 4.0 Workstation NT Scanning is attached The user quot John NT 4.0 Workstation Scanning quot is part of the Administrators group When John tries to use the Precision scan software a message pops up quot No Scanning Destinations were found Reinstall the scanning software quot Reinstalling the software didn t help However logging on as the actual Administrator scanning works fine no errors at all After contacting HP for advice they said quot It s not a scanner problem it s a Windows access problem quot which I guessed all along but I can t find any access issues since NT 4.0 Workstation Scanning he s a member NT 4.0 Workstation Scanning of Administrators So I m out of ideas - I guess there must be a registry or configuration setting somewhere in the Administrator account that is not in his account that says something like quot Here you can have access to LPT or you can have access to this scanner driver quot Any ideas nbsp
i am attempting to install nt 4.0 on a 350 mhz, 128 ram, pentium 2 system. it has been entirely formatted under fat 32. when i get to the third floppy disk, the following STOP error occurs:
Stop: c000026c unable to load device driver \device\floppy 0\ ntfs.sys device driver could not be loaded
error status has 0xc 0000221
restart and set the recovery options in the system control panel or the /CRASHDEBUG system start option
when the above blue screen appears, the system freezes and i have to reset ( control-alternate-delete ) does not cooperate
kindly advise.........thanks with a star
p.s. maybe it has to do with partitioning with NTFS instead of FAT32
NT4 doesn't support FAT32 at all.
You will need to repartition if you have created a large FAT32 partition. Create the partitions from within the NT4 install and it will allow you to create the largest system partition it can support, which is about 8 Gb for NTFS, and 4 GB for FAT. You can then partition the rest of your HD as a data partition.
Does anyone know of a utility that can return a remote machines state:
1) Logged On
3) Logged Off
