Could anyone recommend a graphics card?

Q: Could anyone recommend a graphics card?

I really want to play a game on my pc shogun 2 but I don't have a graphics card that will run this game. So please could anyone recommend me a a graphics card that will run shogun 2 smoothly and under 100. My PC's specifications are as follows:

Dell inspiron 530
Windows vista home premium
3.00GB RAM
Intel core 2 duo 2.20GHz
32-bit OS

I will be grateful for any recommendations or advice.

Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Could anyone recommend a graphics card?

Found this AMD Radeon 6850 for ~100. This is probably the best bang for the buck at this price segment.

You might however consider getting a better power supply, as the minimum PSU requirement is 500W for that GPU.
According to this your PC has a 300W PSU.

Here's a good PSU for ~60.
Alternatively, any no-name 600W PSU should suffice, but I don't recommend that.

My ATI HD4800 is feeling it's age a bit but I know it was quite good in it's day.
What would be the equivalent or better now?
I'm mainly running music software, Photoshop and some video editing on Vegas.
No gaming to speak of but I would like the card to display quickly and preferably with passive cooling.

Asus P8Z 68-V LX
i7 CPU
8Gb Crucial
EMU 0404 Soundcard

Something like this will do the trick if you want to stay with Radeon/AMD. I use one of these in my office PC, and it's a solid performer.

MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card -

Just make sure that you have adequate case cooling, because it does get rather warm.

Is there any reason that you want a fanless card? You're really limiting yourself, performance-wise with a fanless. They are good for HTPC rigs and office PCs, but for a lot of home users a fanless card is not quite up to the task. Particularly if you want to play any games.

My current card is a mobility radeon hd 6370 in a HP dv6. It's not terrible but also not the best either. It tends to freeze up quite a bit in half-life 2 even on medium settings. The score at gpubenchmark is low at 322 and doesn't even register on the value chart.

What would be a good alternatve to the 6370 with a good mix of value and performance in the $100-200 range?

If it helps^^, I just copied this stuff from ROG cpu-z..

Hey guys, I just wondered what graphics card I should get to run Dead Space 2, I loved the first one and i'm running a bit late on playing second one which I really need to get playing ;D.

A:What graphics card do you recommend?

Is it a pc or laptop?

If it's a laptop then you may as well forget about upgrading the graphics as it's usually not possible.

If it's a pc then it depends on your budget and also what power supply you have?

Other than that, I just watch flicks and such really

After our pc upgrade which now has SP2, a P4 Intel processor 3.2 and Intel mobo, 512mb ram ddr400, we'd now like to upgrade our graphics. We currently have a Creative 3D GeForce 3Ti 200 which I think goes up to 64mb. One of our new games requires a minimum of 64mb graphics. Can anyone recommend an upgraded version of Creative graphics card please?

A:Recommend a graphics card? very much depends on how much you want to spend. I'd recommend one with at least 128MB RAM, but the range is substantial. You start at an NVidia FX5200 128MB (rubbish) @ around 35 and go up to an ATiX850 Platinum 256MB at 400, so take your pick depending on your budget. What I would say though is that your system won't necessarily make the most out of one of the top end cards; there are no applications or games available at this time that will; those cards are just for the 'my kit has a faster FPS than yours' bunch, the more descerning of us (and more wallet-concious) generally buy something that will do everything that we want it to now, plus proofs your kit for about 12-24 months against needing to upgrade again.

What I'd also recommend though if you're planning on playing games on your pc, is rather than spending a fortune on a video (graphics) card, consider upgrading your RAM to 1GB. That is by far the most significant upgrade you can do to any pc, and will show significant results. Then bung in a mid-range card like an ATi 9800 pro 128MB for around 135. That coupled with 1GB RAM will play any game around today at max quality, and will for at least the next year or 2.

Your current card is from the NVidia range, it's just badged Creative. There are now 2 main players in the video card market; NVidia & Radeon, both of whom have a massive range of cards, you just need to decide what you want to do with your pc (eg play games, edit video, standard office-type apps, etc) and how much you have to spend.

Hi all,

Basically cannot for the love of god manage to get my geforce 9400gt to play audio when my pc is linked via dvd to hdmi, thats another story though!

Basically i want a new card that is will transmit video and audio via 1 hdmi lead from my pc to my tv. I dont want to spend a fortune, somehere in the region of $80 max.

I dont play games on my pc so gaming not an issue, i purely want it to watch this season from the comfort of my sofa rather than in front of a pc monitor.

My understanding is that all things being equal i should be able to buy a standard hdmi cable for a hdmi - hdmi connection to give both video and audio, the same way that the Playstation 3 works.

Thanks in advance

Pretty much any modern card can do this. I would suggest the GeForce GT 220 or if you want to go cheaper, the G210. On the ATI side, I would suggest either a Radeon HD 5570 or 5450. They should all be able to accelerate M2TS video without any issues. On the plus side, Nvidia can also accelerate WMV, in case you make any use of it.

So I need to find a mouse for graphics work, but with some pretty specific features:

1. Needs to scroll horizontally and vertically in CorelDraw + Photoshop. Prefer 2 wheels.
2. Need a thumb button, programmable, because I need to use that button to delete objects. I would prefer the thumb button to be about mid-height and not on top like most mouse buttons.

What I have tried:

A LOT of mice. Logitech's mice don't scroll horizontally in Corel even though the options are configured in Setpoint.

I have done hours and hours of search, I'd gladly pay the person who finds me this mouse. Thnx for looking into is.

A:Graphics designers recommend me a mouse.

To be specific for a 2 button programmable with one or two scroll wheels most would simply see a single scroll wheel from the start. You can actually find 3 button programmable much faster. The best search for 2button programmable mice are seen in the results. programmable mouse 2 button - Bing shopping

I was looking at the 5 button Wireless Optical Trackman mouse by Logitech some time back being a programmable and cordless model as well with the thumb button. The scroll wheel is right above the left click you can program as well. Logitech Wireless Trackball mouse - Ergonomic Trackball Mouse

For a 5 button programmable mouse you unfortunately are way too late for an MS model "Trackball Explorer".

That was discontinued about 4yrs. back and might be found on EBay. Different programmable mice also see different options for what can be assigned to a specific button. I can't believe the "price tag" seen at Amazon for the Trackball Explorer however! That only retailed for $40- originally! Microsoft Trackball Explorer Optcial: Electronics

Well, it really depends on what your needs are. I actually have an overclocked Zotac 8800GT AMP! edition card and I love it. However I am about to be upgrading to an EVGA 9800GTX+ very soon. This 8800 is just fine for most games but I want a bit more performance in Hellgate:London with settings maxed at 1600x1200 and this card just can't cut it. The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

A:How to install graphics card when the existing graphics card in not working.

You could always stick the new one in and boot up in safe mode. Then proceed to uninstall all the remnant drivers. That *shouldn't* cause any problems, but it may be choppy when you boot up.(I've had this happen before, swapping a Riva TNT2 for a GF6600).

A:Recommend me a Video Card!!

Well, it's a bit of a tall order actually. The games you are wanting to play require fairly powerful graphics cards.

You need to get an AGP graphics card. The first thing you need to confirm is whether or not your current PSU will be enough to power a new card, otherwise you'll need to budget a new PSU in as well.

Open up your case and look at the sticker attached to the power supply and read how many watts your PSU is rated at. Also look at the chart on the sticker. How many amps on the +12v rail?

Yes : Even the cheapest sound card out there is till better than some of the old stuff that would have cost a bundle. Just make sure you get a drivers disk with it. that can save hours of work. and if your still not sure, go with sound blaster from creative labs. it is a good sign that all the other products claim to be sound blaster compatiable.

Any particular reason you want to use up a PCI slot in your PC when a USB wireless G dongle can do the same thing and not take up a slot? A dongle generally comes with a base that it fits into and allows about 6' or cable to find the best coverage with the PCI card it's not that flexible.

Hey all,

I need another soundcard because my Creative Fatelity x-Pro Elite I think does not work anymore. I tried to solve the issue and asked people here to help, but nothing worked. I need a soundcard so that I can record what I listen to with programs such as Roxio, Sony SoundForge. Also, if you know any other programs that can record from the motheboard Soundcard, please let me know, and I don't mean record from my WebCam or Mic because I get lot of ambient noise from those.
Know any programs that can record from MB Soundcard?
And what Soundcard do you guys recommend, I need at least 7.1. All the reviews I read there is always someone having issues with it. I prefer Creative, Asus is good too.

Thank You,

A:Which sound card do you recommend?

Just a month ago, I purchased an Asus Xonar D2X and I love it.

I got fed up with poor driver quality from my SB Xfi and it's constant snap-crackle-pop while playing games or listening to music.

The sound quality is excellent and I've had no SCP issues. I've had no issues with older games either.

I highly recommend it.

I could use a little bit of everyone's wisdom here. I find myself doing more and more computer repairs (mainly family and business is good!) and feel that a hardware diag card would greatly help me out. Since I have no experience in chosing or using a PCI Motherboard diagnostic card so I'm hoping some of my friends here can point me in the direction of a good, user friendly card. The only other caveat is that I would like to keep the price under $50.

Thanks guys and gals!

A:Recommend me a motherboard diagnostic card

None of them are much good for very long. Motherboards change too frequently. Experience is the best teacher, followed by goog books by Muellar and Bigelow... and know your software.
The motherboard is very seldom the problem... in fact it is surprising how seldom the motherboard is involved in the problem. Same with the CPU. Only in eMachines, which you cannot fix anyway, does either have much to do with the problems.
Invest in a good thermal temperature gun, for under $50, a case of Dust Off, a good power supply tester, and a couple of quarts of denatured alcohol. Put the rest into diagnostic discs that you can trust... buy building your own from downloads at,, and elsewhere.

Hi Folks

Have about ?100 too spend!

Many Thanks

A:Can anybody Recommend A Good Sound Card?

What is it you're looking for? Better sound quality? What are you connecting it to and are you using digital or analogue? If you're using analogue you may well not notice any difference with a better card. Also assuming you want to avoid creative... Anyway:

I did a lot of research for my card and came up with the Asus Xonar D2/PM which has a better SNR than your current card (118 db vs 107db for the DS). THD may be better too. It can also do Dolby in addition to DTS. Comes with a MIDI port daughter card and bundled basic music production software if that's your bag. I've linked to the PCI version: there's a pci-e version, but be aware that the pci-e one needs power from a floppy connector, unlike the PCI which needs no additional power.

If you can stretch to ?140 there's the Asus Xonar Essence ST which is the next step in sound quality (124db SNR) Can only do stereo, unless you buy the expansion card. I've linked to the PCI version; again there's a pci-e version with the same caveat as above.

Hope this helps.

Hi, i cant for the life of me solve the problem i am having with my wireless card. It stutters up my whole PC, and cuts my internet connection, frequently. Its a bother listening to music, playing games, browsing the internet.

I cant take it anymore!!! but my old card isnt compatible with windows 7, i tried all sorts of driver install variations on compatibility ect. Which is why i bought this one.

I just have a b access point, and i'd like it to be pci as my usb slots are all filled.

If someone could recommend a card on that will be compatible with windows 7 64-bit, i would be greatful

Thanks for taking the time

A:I cant solve my wireless card problem, recommend a new?

I found this on newegg. It looks promising, though windows 7 drivers are not really main stream yet, so it is hard to tell what will actually be supported with new drivers, etc...

::: EDIMAX Technology ::: - EDIMAX EW-7728In IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 32bit PCI Wireless 802.11n Draft 2.0 PCI Card Up to 300Mbps Data Rates WEP 64/128, WPA, WPA2 Cisco CCX V1.0, V2.0 & V3.0 Compliance - Wireless Adapters
It supports Vista 64bit, so it should have windows 7 64bit support since they really didn't touch the networking area of windows 7.

Will run your roughly $35, and most people suggest getting the newest drivers off the website and not use the CD since they are quite dated.

I would add a PCIe adapter card with antennas on the back: like this:
search ebay for this "wireless mini pcie to pcie adapter" and you'll find several for about $10 USD.
and then add in a mini pcie card of your choosing: I think I'd choose this one:
intel dual band wireless-ac 7260HMW WiFi+Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe Half Mini Wifi Card
New on ebay for about $25 USD.
I'd expect drivers from Intel would work without any issues, but Windoze 10 will take care of the drivers anyway weather you like it or not.

What you have to do is read the specifications for the video cards when you're shopping for one.

Look for a video card that says it's "Dual-Link DVI Supported"

Other things you need to know, based on your specific computer model:
what type of interface do you need to buy? AGP, PCI, PCI-e etc.
how many PSU (power supply unit) watts do you have?
also make sure the video card supports your screen resolution.

Hey, recently, I have came up with an idea of a fourth monitor, but my GPU (970) supports only three, which ones that I own. It has fourth one but I don't have the right cables for it for now.
I noticed that my motherboard has two open video ports, one being VGA which I needed. So, I tried just plugging it in and seeing what happens but it doesn't seem to work, I have tried looking for results around the internet and BIOS but they don't seem to work. The three monitors which I have plugged into my GPU, work perfectly fine, but, as I said, the motherboard's VGA port doesn't work. If my motherboard currently has an intigrated graphics card, but has a PCI-E slot, do I need to do anything special after inserteing my graphics card and installing the drivers, or should it just work right away?

A:How do you switch from an integrated graphics card to an "external" graphics card?

Most modern PCs will detect the new installation of the PCI graphics card and automatically disable the onboard graphics, so yes it should just work.

If for some reason you have problems, you may have to make a change in the bios, I cannot be more specific because each bios is different depending on manufacturer, and model of the motherboard.

Install the card, connect your monitor to it and boot up, when you get into Windows install the driver and reboot.

Its usually just the graphics cards, they do fail especially if they overheat - then video card fan not speeding up might have been the problem - most are dynamic and should actually speed up under load. Depending on the manufacturer of your 8800GTX you might be able to get it replaced under warranty if they have a 3 year or greater warranty.

A:Whats a Good Graphics card for Gaming and using Adobe Software-Graphics

I've done a lot of research on this because I built a new system back in August. While I am not much of a gamer, I needed a very good NLE machine. However, the card I chose is quite the gamer card but had all the extras I needed to run Adobe Video Collection.

I picked the Connect 3D Radeon X850XT Platinum card from Tigerdirect. At the time it was $350 but I know it's cheaper now. It's got everything you need for a demanding application like Premiere Pro 1.5 and its related software. 256MB of GDDR3 memory and dual DVI outs. I highly recommend this card. I've been using it since the start of September with Adobe and it's great.

Your CPU and memory are a bit more of an important factor with rendering and burning though. My new PC has a 3.4Ghz P4 and 2GB of 533Mhz dual channel RAM. It's an exceptional increase in speed and productivity over my old 2.4Ghz and 512 Rambus.

Hi all Video card appears to be reaching the end of the road with regular crashes of x type After extensive attempts card Enabling method onboard graphics graphics/Disabling to fix it the conclusion is that the card needs to be replaced I plan to acquire a completely new computer when I go overseas in days time Until then a band-aid solution occurred to me to last this week use the onboard graphics integrated in the motherboard instead of the failing discrete graphics card Some background info Motherboard is GA-G M-ES L Graphics card is nVidia GT Current display interface is DVI connected to graphics card VGA cable available My method is Update motherboard GA-G M-ES L drivers Uninstall discrete graphics card nVidia GT drivers Reboot and access BIOS Via BIOS disable graphics card and enable onboard graphics Save and shutdown Disconnect DVI monitor cable from graphics card also from monitor Connect VGA monitor cable to motherboard also to monitor Boot Enabling onboard graphics/Disabling graphics card method I would lke your opinion on this planned course of action which potentially could be nigh unfixable

A:Enabling onboard graphics/Disabling graphics card method

That is just how you should do that, it's unremarkable.

Should not be a problem at all, it's routine, you could add another card later and be just fine after disabling on-board again.

A:Problem installing new graphics card on Emachine/onboard-graphics

An extreme option

As you do have the option of a working computer prior to installing the new card I would back up any files that are important to you..
Then, before I would pay someone else BIG bucks, I would put in the new card and try a fresh install of windows. Force it to recognise your new card. The drivers that Windows will pick should suffice until the install is done and you can then install the card specific drivers from your disk.
This is given ONLY as a choice. I am not sure this will solve your problem but IT IS something this cheap bas____ would try before paying someone else.

Good Luck and check back, maybe someone else will contribute a better idea.

A:how to disable Intel HD Graphics to install PCI-E graphics card

It's likely to be an improvement, but check it and see.
Onboard graphics are disabled in the BIOS (Try looking under "Integrated Peripherals" or something similar.
You probably don't need to do this, but it's nice to know how.

I just plugged my monitor into the new card (HD4770) and it works, did not disable or uninstall the integrated graphics. the integrated is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE chipset. The performance index went higher on paper but other than having better resolution I don't see a huge improvment. I still have video lag trying to watch streaming hd movies and my new camera (Panasonic Lumix ZS7) wont play video in HD over my computer. Must I disable and even uninstall the old integrated graphics too or am I missing something else?

Hello there, I am looking for a dirt cheap, Windows 7 suitable graphics card for use with a PC designed for multimedia purposes (watching films, listening to music etc). I would like to be able to use the full visual effects Windows 7 has to offer. It must have an S-video output and be compatible with the Asus M3A78-CM Motherboard. I have 1 PCI Express x 1 slot free and 2 x PCI 2.2 slots free.

Please provide some suggestions, doesn't have to be brand new.

Either that, or something like the Gadmei XGA/VGA LCD TV BOX. I want to connect my PC with the motherboard mentioned previously to my CRT TV (Panasonic TX-28PL4 Quintrix). The motherboard has onboard graphics via dvi and vga outputs. The TV has an S-VHS plug on the front, as well as RCA Audio/Video sockets. On the rear, it has 1 spare scart input.

What are your thoughts?

A:Graphics Card/Onboard Graphics for Media Centre PC

the graphics card listed in my specs may only be 64MB, but it surprisingly runs aero.
If that seems to be not quite what you're looking for, another card I would recommend is the nvidia 8400GS. It may be 512MB, but thats about as high as it's specs go, but you will need a more powerful PSU (300W+). The 8400GS is about ?30 and a vga to RCA adapter seems to be about ?5 (i recommend you buy the adapter before the card).
The one in my specs just has a VGA port, but the 8400GS has vga, dvi and hdmi (i think the hdmi may need some further cabling in the case, not sure though)

NB (the card listed in my system specs may actually be the GeForce 7200GS, all system information programs tell me that it could be both and there's no sticker on it. all i know for (kinda) certain is that its 64MB )

Lately I have been having graphics problems in games. There are these " artifacts", wierd shapes, triangles, ect that appear and "shot" through my screen. it is hard to explain what it looks like, except that it is NOT normal.

It is hard to say when these appeared. I have recently got a different monitor. It is not new. It is a Dell CRT monitor. I replaced 1 CRT with another because I am cheap .

I have the latest drivers, I think, for my graphics card ( GeForce 5700 LE ). Not great , but not terrible. I play the games with either low or medium settings. I ran a benchmark test that was terrible.

Any ideas as to weather it is the card or monitor?

Hi , The option is the one where the nvidia card and intel on-board are shown, and the BIOS should select the nvidia card as priority if it can, and has a choice.
It's sometimes known as 'Primary Video' & the option is called PEG.
Make sure you save the settings when you exit or they won't be changed from before.

My question is, will my system benifit from a PCI graphics card or is the bus too slow for PCI to show any type of improvement? The only reason I say PCI is because the system does not have an AGP slot.

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

What is the ram & psu make and model?
Try clearing the cmos, per MoBo book.
First check to see that you used MoBo's stand off's correctly and
that the MoBo is not shorting out on the case.
Do a bare setup, only the essentials. Can be done with or without case.

1.cpu heatsink/fan
3.1 stick of known good ram card
5. keyboard

Un-hook all power & data cables (except the power to MoBo)
remove all addin cards.
This is just to get you to the bios screen.
Failing this, try booting without any ram just to see if you get any error
beep codes, same with video card.

This should help getting some trouble shooting in order.
G'Luck and let us know.
