Preferred Solution: Successfully Installed Windows 10 on Inspiron N5050 Except for Boot up After Restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I'm trying to do a factory restore on an Inspiron N5050, and the F8 menu does not have the 'Repair Your Computer' option, nor other expected items, such as last known good config. All it shows is the 3 safe mode options, and the boot windows normally option.

Dell's F12 menu is also missing an option to repair/restore.

I can boot the laptop to normal windows 7, but it's a black screen with a movable cursor. I get the same thing in Safe Mode, black screen, cursor.

I'm trying to figure out why the F8 menu is so limited. I can boot a Hiren's CD and get to a Mini XP desktop from there, and it works fine (no black screen).

Any help would be appreciated.

Just got a new Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop.
Using it about 3 weeks and loving it.
Pop up window invited me to update Windows. Clicked Yes.
While  update was in progress, I accidently turned it off.
Now, It boots up, but moments afterward, it goes to Blue Screen of Death and, before I can even read the Blue Screen, it goes to Black Screen and asks how I would like to start up - Normal startup - Safe mode - Safe Mode with Prompts, etc.
So I want to restore it to an earlier time or just restore back to the beginning (factory settings).
Can I do this in one of the start up options on the Black Screen?

When I tried upgrading from windows 7 to 10 on my Inspiron N5050 the screen had the windows 10 logo and spinning dots below it before going black. I had to hard restart my laptop. I contacted dell support  who said windows 10 was not compatable with my computer. They said I needed to restore my OS back to windows 7. When I start my computer I  can enter the bootup menu briefly before it automatically goes the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots. It stays like this for about a minute before going to the black screen. Any help with restoring to windows 7 from this point?

A:black screen pxe-e61 error for inspiron n5050 windows 7

Hi nombie88,
Please run the diagnostics to confirm the hardware functionality. Here are the steps for it:

Tap the F12 key on startup.
Use the Arrow keys to highlight the Diagnostics option.
The Diagnostics starts running the quick test without waiting for user input.
To select a specific device to test, you can tap the Esc key.
Please make a note of any error message that appears on the screen, also make sure that you note down the validation code too.
Once quick test completes, please run a thorough test on the hard drive by selecting the 'Thorough' under Test Mode option.
Please make a note of end result of diagnostics.

If the diagnostics pass, lets check if the hard drive is getting detected. Here are the steps to check that:

Boot to BIOS, by tapping the F12 key on the startup.
Please check under the Main tab, if the hard drive is getting detected as shown in image below:

Please share the findings.

A:Bios installed successfully at start up but system doesn't boot..

I'm unclear on a few things:

Does this PC have 2 hard drives: a WD 500 GB drive and the one you call "my Sata Hd"?

Have you recently flashed the BIOS or made any changes in the existing BIOS?

Is the BIOS now set to defaults?

Do you have any type of RAID on this PC?

I get a message that Windows failed.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

It instructs me to insert the windows installation disc, restart, and run "repair your computer".  However, I did not receive an installation disc, only a utilities disk (which does not boot)
What do I do now?

A:Inspiron M5030 recovery boot issue. Recovery disk does full restore and starts Win7, which operates fine. But on restart, windows will not boot.

1. Reseat the hard disk drives, reseat the controller and monitor. 2. Perform chkdsk /r on the RAID volume. 3. Run diagnostics on the hard disk drives and controller and replace as necessary.

Hi,
You can find the list of all the processors below tested by Dell on your computer:
(click on image for enlarged view)
You can check the comparison of 'i3-2350M' and 'i7-2860QM' from the link: http://intel.ly/122fJzI The lithography and the dimensions of both the processors is same but the Core junction temperature, Maximum TDP (Thermal design power) and the clock speed are way different and may cause system instability issues.
Dell does not offer processor or motherboard upgrades for purchase as discrete items, nor does Dell recommend upgrading the processor or motherboard in any given system. Therefore, Dell cannot support systems in which the motherboard or processor has been upgraded through third-party services or products. Got an Inspiron n5050 in December 2011 and it worked fine until it decided to shut down and I manually turned it back on and it stopped at the screen showing the patents and won't progress past that, I've tried manually force starting from hard drive and also doing a diagnostics run and it reported that no problems were found. In need of help!

A:Inspiron n5050 start up issue.

Hi Rab Nawaz/jazzies,
If the hard drive is detected in the system and the system does not boot. Please run the Dell Diagnostics to determine if the hard drive has failed.

Turn off the computer. Restart it and pres F12 key at Dell Splash screen.
Use the down arrow key to highlight 'Diagnostics' from the 'One Time Boot' menu.
The ePSA starts running the quick test without waiting for an input.
Please share the error code(s) if any.
If the test completes without errors, restart PC and press F8 key.
Use the down arrow key to highlight 'Safe Mode with Networking' and press Enter.
If the system boots to Safe Mode, try System Restore.

Please revert with the results and I will help you accordingly.

I had an interesting problem, and there was a previous unanswered, but CLOSED post that discussed the same issue here:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1060893-solved-laptop-cutting-out.html

I wanted to add to this. It seems that through trial and error that the motherboard/power supply is shorting out on a screw on the base of the unit. In particular, the two screws that are NOT on the edges, but towards the center of the laptop. I left those out and the laptop runs fine. I put them in, and I have no power at all. No lights, no fan, nothing on either DC or AC.

Just wanted to add this info in case anyone else comes along with a similar issue.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Sounds like you need to get rid of some temp files build up,
Run this and check the boxes for temp files and thumbnails at the least,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/818-disk-cleanup-open-use.html

You can use this to cleanup both browsers,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

You'll need to order Recovery Disks from Dell for your model if you want the preinstalled factory bloatware and utilities which have much better versions built into Win7 .

Or you can clean reinstall with the Product Key on COA sticker following these steps: Reinstalling Windows 7

Burn the ISO file below to DVD or write to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Too:

I received notification for recommended update KB 978506. I installed it. Soon the update notification showed in my taskbar again so I clicked to install again. When it showed up the 3rd time I checked my update history and see this item shows as installed twice today - successful in both instances. I restarted thinking that might do the trick but it's still saying I have this same update to install.

When you receive it again, do not install. Set it to hide, just right click on the update and choose hide.. You should not be bothered again.

A:Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 No Bluetooth Audio Drivers?

That sounds like a problem with the Vizio (no drivers) rather than a driver problem in the PC.

Have you checked Vizio to see if they have any Windows drivers?

In case it is a PC driver issue, make sure you have all the drivers installed from Dell.

BTW, avoid Windows 10 on this model. Dell has a note that they do not support Win 10 for this model.

Hey all, I am trying to help somebody who knows nothing about computers reset her password and she doesn't have a password reset disk for it and I told her that she would have to re-install Windows or restore it back to factory default settings and I would much rather restore it back to factory default settings for her because doing a clean install takes forever considering that I would also have to download and install all of her drivers and the only thing I would have to do after a factory restore is re-install her programs and uninstall all the bloatware, can somebody please tell me how to do it thanks

It should be the same for Seven.
If it were me I would use a Disc with Seven SP1, I think that would be easier than going back to Seven with a factory reset, if SP1 did not come with the computer.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop computerspecifically because I wanted a computer that would support WiDi (IntelWireless Display) to my HDTV. I had been under the assumption that all currentgeneration laptops included Intel Wireless Display technology.
After receiving the computer, I have just discovered thatthe wireless network card in this machine apparently does NOT support wirelessdisplay technology. Is there a way that I can replace the network card in thismachine with one that DOES support wireless display technology or at least addan additional card to the machine that supports wireless display? Or…am I stuckwith a machine that does not have the capability that I need?  Thanks for any help.

A:Can Inspiron 15 - N5050 Support Intel Wireless Display (WiDi)?

Hi Scott_SK,
Welcome to the Community.
To be able to use the Intel Wireless Display the system needs to have the  following minimum requirement as given in this link below :
www.intel.com/.../CS-031059.htm
Replacing the wireless card(Dell Wireless card with Intel) or adding wireless card will not help as this feature should be enabled on the system from the factory.
If your system is within 21 days from the invoice date you may returm the system for full refund and re-order a system which supports the WiDi technology.
Thank You

This happened to me just a few minutes ago.

So I was turning on my computer, then waited for a few minutes for it to boot. But then, it was stuck in the 'Starting Windows' screen. There's a 'Starting Windows' text below, but no logo animation came up (You know, the one with the little orbs turning to logo of Windows). I tried to restart it a few times, but then the same screen appeared, only with no logo animation appearing.

Is there something I should do?

EDIT: I've ran Startup Repair a few minutes ago, and it diagnosed something along the lines of 'Won't start after driver install' or something, but it still won't boot.

Any 2.5" SATA notebook drive will work that's 9.5 mm or slimmer.
Ideally you prepared a set of recovery media when you received the system -- if you did not, you will need to contact Dell to purchase that now.

My computers motherboard has died - won't boot, power supply checks out OK, no response even with all hardware disconnected. Its seven years old, so I've ordered new a new mobo, cpu, ram to replace my build.

My question - is there a way to get my current Windows 7 install to boot on my new hardware so I can then do my Windows 10 free upgrade ( I hadn't upgraded to 10 as of yet)?

I thought about booting to safe mode, deleting the hardware listed in Device Manager, then rebooting as normal and letting Windows recognize the new hardware. Would this work?

Thanks for any ideas.

A little while ago I put a new 1TB hard drive in my Dell Inspiron N5050 to replace the old 500GB one. I used the Windows backup program on the computer and the information on the Windows website. I transferred the system image to a backup hard drive, then installed it onto the new hard drive. I've tried a disc cleanup, defragmenting the hard drive, and I've run all the diagnostics that Windows has and still this thing is SLOW!
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, my computer has an Intel Core I3 processor. I still have the old hard drive with everything still on it and I still have the system image on the backup hard drive. Please if anyone can help, I would GREATLY appreciate it, this thing is driving me nuts (My OLD Inspiron 1420 with a Core2 Duo processor runs circles around my N5050!)

I'm not sure exactly where to ask this, so I'll try here. I have installed (or so the Update History page tells me) IE 9 (Win 7 Home Ed 64-bit). The history says the installation was successful (actually, more than once). The list of Windows Features shows IE9 running. But when I click on any IE icon that I can find, I'm still getting IE 8. There is no IE in my Start Menu, the only IE files I can find in Program Files (x88) on my boot drive are version 8 (right click Properties on iexplore.exe). If IE 9 is installed and "running," where do I find it to start it up?

Thanks,
Karl

Is there a reboot cued for Shut Down? Check the Shut Down button in Start menu now.

If not I think I would uninstall it in Windows Updates>View Updates>Installed Updates then when it shows up again install it alone.

Plz help with this ..

A:I installed XP after 7 successfully .. but there is just one problem

Hello dyedcorduroy, welcome to Seven Forums!

Does the partition have a drive letter in XP?

Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire Windows disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going on as there may be a fairly simple way to resolve the situation.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a maximized snip of that.

new computer, see profile, Windows 7 professional came installed, but not the updates...so I'm running updates. I see a lot of history in the forums from years 2011 and 2012 about this update loading over and over. What is happening now is different in that the update keeps saying it needs to be installed, I install it, computer says it installed successfully, I reboot. I rerun update search and it finds same update kb2538242 still needs to installed. The difference is that it actually does need to be installed...it does not show in the "view updates" list.

I have tried manually installing, and installing an alternate file I saw in the forums (it no longer exists). I've installed the file probably 20 times. I can't just ignore it because it won't do any of the later updates including those for Office 2010 which I just installed. I can't figure out what to do. Can anyone help? Running IE11, Windows 7 professional

This news may be old hat to many of you but it was a pleasant surprise to me so wanted to share it My Win -bit computer was freezing every now and then for no explainable reason but I simply put up with it as Win7 Non-Destructively Successfully Re-installed various corrective steps failed to help Then I Successfully Re-installed Win7 Non-Destructively noticed that my Internet Explorer v was not playing friendly with the online Internet screens for my bank and credit union appeared to be partially adobe related Switching back to IE and IE did not work instead they totally goofed up my IE browser Successfully Re-installed Win7 Non-Destructively to the point it would not connect to anything any more Well after unsuccessfully trying to reinstall IE I tried to do a Win repair using my original install CD Apparently that option is not available unlike earlier Win versions so I instead chose to reinstall Win using the upgrade option versus a clean install It took a long time but lo and behold - it gave me a clean resinstall of Win and ALL of my existing software programs were still installed and working All I had to do was download and install some Win software updates Not having to reinstall and then configure all of my software plus not losing recent data files was a real blessing Now I no longer have random machine freezes and I have stuck with IE so I can safely access my online financial info from the banks amp credit unions

This is what I get at every startup in the notification area: "Device driver was not successfully installed"
When I click on the message I get a window that says:
"Device driver was not successfully installed.
Microsoft WPD Enhanced Storage Password Driver ---- Failed"
All attempts by Windows 7 troubleshooting just try to fix it. I just want to get rid of it.
I have found the registry entries for this but have no idea what to alter to stop this driver from trying to run.

(Yes, while trying to fix a USB problem I mistakenly clicked to install this.)

Either right clicking to uninstall followed by a full restart or to have Windows perform an automatic search won't always work. Which firewall are you using? Its worth a try stopping/pausing it and then downloading updates to check up.
Also try this and see if it helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814033

Hopefully, you used the Windows 7 install disc which came with your custom built desktop computer to reformat and reinstall Windows 7.

Hi, every time I booted up my pc, it automatically attempts to install Broadcom xD Picture card Host controller and Broadcom xD Picture Bus Driver but the installation fails every time. I use DriverPack Solution to install and update my drivers and when I checked if all the drivers are installed, it's all there. I tried using the Windows automatic driver search but it fails also.

By the way, I'm using Acer Aspire 4752g.

A:[SOLVED] Device driver not successfully installed

I don't recommend (and neither do the moderators If I recall correctly) the use of driver-locating software like DriverPack etc, especially when your laptop brand has excellent manufacturer's support on the web.

You should download drivers manually direct from the Acer Support website as that's the only way to be sure of what you are downloading & that they are the correct drivers for your model.

Select your Windows version on this page & wait for it to refresh:

United States (default): Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 4752G

If United States is not the appropriate country, click the link at bottom left of page.

I installed windows 7 Ult on my Toshiba satellite l50 laptop (which had no operating systems installed at the time). No programs were installed and 7 drivers weren't recognised.

I used the same installation CD to install Windows 7 on VMware (on my desktop) and the drivers were successfully installed and had 2 programs installed(excluding VMware).

Ubuntu on the other hand was able to recognise the drivers when I booted it from the live CD meaning there must be a problem within windows 7 not my laptop.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

A:Device driver software was not successfully installed.

You need to go look for those drivers!

Your laptop and desktop would require different drivers.
Ubuntu and most Linux disrtos' are pretty good with drivers these days; so I guess you got lucky with that.

Start on the manufacturers website for the laptop; you'll probably find everything you need there.

Had a problem (user profile), so reverted to last usable configuration. Now I get a message that "device driver software was not successfully installed." That would be easier to fix if I knew which device was meant.

Device Manager shows two USB devices with exclamation marks, each marked "unknown device."

First one's status said "Windows has stopped this device beause it has reported problems. (Code 43). Searched for drivers and, after a long search, I got a message that "The best driver software for your device is already installed."

Second says "This device disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29). " Another long search, and I'm told the same thing?

Should I uninstall these drivers and trust them to reinstall themselves?

A:Device driver software not successfully installed--OK, but which?

First thoughts would be the external hardrives.
Secondly W7 does not have any generic USB3 drivers.

The firmware problem will definately require a visit to the problem devices home page as firmware updates are not MS updated.

post the device id codes (unknown device), see screenshot

Hi

The hardware for your model is described as:

Quote:
802.11 a/b/g/n PCI Express x1 wireless card & built-in Bluetooth wireless USB module for PCs

Check the Device Manager first:

Quote:
Before trying to install the Bluetooth driver you need to check whether the Bluetooth device is
added to the Hardware list in your Operating System. You could check this by verifying the
enabled Bluetooth option in the Device manager on the Control Panel. If it is not enabled,
Operating System would not detect the Bluetooth Device in your system and you would not able
to install the driver using automatic update option.

You can find the drivers here, I suggest you try the driver found under "Original"

First select your operating system.

The version you want is 8.0.0.144 Dated 2010-01-08 Size 1.85Mb

"Original driver for the Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n Dual Wireless Network Module"

There are instructions (under more info) how to install and heres the link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...t=4147109#N297

I would uninstall any previous drivers you have installed.

Hope this helps

I've read dozens of sources on how to (re)install/fix Korean on Win7 and I successfully installed Korean language pack - the installation says it was successful. However under "Korean" there's no "Microsoft IME" as there should be, and picking only the "Korean" sub-option doesn't do anything. I can even set my default language to Korean and I still would type with Latin characters. Korean never shows on the language bar, other languages show. Reboot doesn't help.

Tried uninstalling / installing the Korean language pack; tried different sources for the pack, re-downloading. It never seems to work; it installs and then nothing happens. I'm at a loss how to solve this further, please help!

A:Successfully Installed Korean Language Doesn't Work

Hi Fxoz, welcome to the Seven Forums.

After installing Korean language pack you need to change display language as described in this tutorial: Display Language - Change

When that's done, set the keyboard layout as told here: Keyboard Layout - Change

Then the tricky part, using Korean Ms IME; read this post to fix that: Cannot input foreign language

Should work now as you wanted.

Hi,

Upon checking on the Manufacturer website for your cable modem, I suspected that the driver for your device is not compatible with Windows 7. I also went to the Windows 7 Compatibility Center, and could not find your device listed on the site.

Here is the site, for your own research.

Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

My solution is to find if there is a generic driver for your modem, on the Cisco website, simply download the driver that best suits your modem's series.

When I restarted the laptop for testing purpose TE asked me for the passphrase yes I do remember it, after typed it in blank screen presented (no windows OS)
What could be the culprit ?

A:True Encrypt installed successfully but blank screen presented

Never heard of True Encrypt.
I have use True Crypt before and it gave a password test before it installed so you knew everything was good
True Crypt is here:
https://www.grc.com/misc/truecrypt/truecrypt.htm
The original creators of True Crypt has stopped distribution and taken out the download

Although the disappearance of the TrueCrypt site, whose ever-presence the Internet community long ago grew to take for granted, shocked and surprised many, it clearly came as no surprise to the developers who maintained the site and its namesake code for the past ten years. An analysis of the extensive changes made to TrueCrypt's swan song v7.2 release, and to the code's updated v3.1 license, shows that this departure, which was unveiled without preamble, was in fact quite well planned.

Where did you get this software?

Hello guys

I have upgraded from windows vista x86 to windows 7 x64 (actually not upgraded, Fresh install) and now I don't have any DVD-RW icon in my computer under the "Devices with removable Storage"
I searched the internet and I found this link PLDS and TSST DVDRW Drives Not Found in Windows 7 | Dell

and now i'm stuck on which of them should I choose.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Go to dells website and input your service tag # then look for the spec sheet...in there it should give you the make and model number of your DVD drive and then you can choose which driver to download.

Hi guys So my stock HDD on my Inspiron R N completely out on me last I installation OS N7010 Inspiron now new 7 17R SSD disc. Windows installed, need week so I bit the bullet and just bought I completely new SDD and installed it last night now however I need to install the OS again Problem is when I bought the laptop Windows came pre-installed so I have no disc for it How can I go about getting an installation disc and how much is it gonna cost so I can get my laptop up and running again It s an outdated OS and the laptop is almost years old I can t imagine it costing that much There s a Microsoft store right by me too Inspiron 17R N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 OS installation disc. can I just go there and buy the Windows OS disc you think Also the original HDD was Inspiron 17R N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 OS installation disc. GB and this new SSD is GB so Inspiron 17R N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 OS installation disc. the recovery disks I made when I first got the laptop are useless since Dell Datasafe Recovery or whatever it s called keeps telling me the harddrive needs at least GB of space or something similar along that message The smaller space on the SSD isn t going to be an issue with the laptop in general or when installing the Windows OS is it

The audio on my device stopped working. Taskbar audio icon shows a red X as if muted, when you mouse over the icon, it shows the error 'No Audio Device is Installed'. Checked under device manager unable to find sound option. Installed Realtek HD audio drivers from the Realtek website with no solution. Please help?

A:'No Audio output device is installed' Dell Inspiron 15z Windows 10

You can get the drivers from the Inspiron 15z 5523 html page. Use either the Win 8.1 driver (labelled "WB64A") or one of the Win7 ones. First go into Device Manager and right click on the Realtek High Definition Audio Device to open the context menu, then "uninstall" and check the box to "delete the driver software for this device."
When you re-boot Windows will remove the Realtek driver and install its native audio driver. See if audio works. Then you can install an IDT driver over the native driver without removing it first.
If neither the native nor IDT driver helps, try reverting to your previous operating system. If the audio still does not work then the hardware has probably failed. If it does work in the previous OS, then perform a clean installation of Win10 and see if it works.

Hello,
My HP Notebook laptop only 18 months old gave me a "imminent hard disk failure" message and so I backed up the computer and created restore discs. Installed a new hard drive and got a Recovery Manager screen and selected system recovery, prompted through the discs. It prompted me to hit FINISH and the computer would restart. There was a warning saying not turn off, unplug, etc. The computer has not Restarted or shut off after I hit Finish. It has a blank screen with the power light on and has been that way for 2 hours now. Should I wait some more or turn it off? What are the consequences?

Thank you for any help/ suggestions

After a Windows 7 update today my computer turns on, goes past the welcome screen, then shows up with an error reading "AHCI BIOS not installed" and something about clicking on CTRL+S to enter setup and then restarts. This keeps on going continuously until I shut it down. I've read suggestions on forums to run chkdsk but I can't get as far as the Advanced Boot Menu; I can get to the setup and regular boot menu and when I boot from my hard drive the computer restarts.

Any suggestions?

I partitioned my hard drive a week ago and installed Ubuntu on it. However, I think the error is due to my update today.

A:AHCI BIOS not installed & Continuous restart loop - Windows 7

AHCI is an advanced controller interface for sata drives and it
is usually a setting for the raid controller.
If you are not using it,might want to disable it in the bios setup.
If you are using it,I can try to find the registry hack that enables
it in windows without reinstalling, but you still need to see if you
can disable it and get into windows first.
Set it to sata or ide, whichever is available.
Not raid or ahci.

A:I can only successfully boot from Ubuntu, as my boot file was removed.

Here's my recount of the situation, from the top.

-I had downloaded Ubuntu as a .iso file; I intended on creating an installation CD from it.
-My first CD outright didn't work. It was just an .iso, unmounted. I didn't know this wouldn't work, so I went to check in the BIOS what the boot order was. I deduced that the file was unmountable from the fact that the CD was in pristine condition, and the optical drive containing the disk was first in the boot order.
-In essence, I did the same thing with the second CD, but I didn't know I was doing so. I learned this after I got the same results, but with a twist: it brought up the System Restore window, because I shut down the computer manually. I had no option but to restore the system to the last restore point. To my knowledge it had been fairly recent that we created a Point, but not recent enough. It kept our files, but not the information on how to run the wireless antenna.
-At this point I was frustrated: cursing under my own breath, etc. I realized I was down to one CD, and I didn't think it would work. I looked carefully and found I wasn't selecting the option which made the CD mountable. There. Problem solved, so I thought. I wrote the disk at 8x speed, as to ensure good quality.
-I used InfraRecorder to create the mountable CD. I forget the mode InfraRecorder was in, but anyone who can help me will know.
-From there I proceeded to install Ubuntu, but made the deadly error: I forgot to create a System Restore Point beforehand. This however was not the error in charge of preventing me from booting Windows 7.
-I chose to make my computer a dual-boot: running Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.1 on the same disk, as different partitions obviously. I dedicated 104.6GB to Ubuntu, and the rest (590-odd gigabytes) to Windows 7
-At that point in time I could boot both operating systems without any problems, except the aforementioned (wireless antenna). I shut down the computer via the Start Menu, and proceeded to look for any problems in the antenna, and the PCI chip. We were using a Rosewill RNX-N150PCx antenna and chip. I see now that my only error was installing the physical pieces of hardware before the software.
-The other users of this computer believed the problem was the installation of Ubuntu, so it was to be removed. the only problem was there was no way of removing Ubuntu through a Canonical-supplied piece of hardware.
-I went through a third party, using a program called EasyBCD. This was, in theory, supposed to remove Ubuntu. I realize now I could have just deleted the partition containing Ubuntu, albeit an unprofessional move.
-I followed the steps from a guide at this location; The Non-Geek?s Guide To Safely Uninstall Ubuntu From A Dual-Booting Machine
-I got up to the "try to re-boot, etc" just before "Playing with the Partition", so, following the guide, I rebooted.
-Upon this reboot, (the error code upon which I neglected to record) I wasn't able to reboot Windows. What happened: it couldn't locate the boot file. Fortunately, I did record what EasyBCD said. It said the following, after I clicked "Install BCD":
"EasyBCD has successfully converted the selected disk [I chose C:/, that's where Windows was located] into a bootable drive. In order to configure the boot menu entries on the selected partition, you must use: File | Select BCD Store , and choose the \boot\BCD file on the partition you just prepped.
-I was then unable to reboot any OS. From here I figured it best to reinstall Ubuntu over the previous installation of Ubuntu, and the boot error screen would go away. This happened, and it by default will boot to a CD first then proceed to the GRUB menu of Ubuntu.
-The GRUB menu allows me to boot to these places:
Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-29-generic-pae
Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-29-generic-pae (recovery mode)
Memory test (memtest86+)

I have the Dell Inspiron N5050 and want to install Windows 10.
BUT............
On their site the statement says....
Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade
Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product.
If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.
We buy Dell thinking they are the best, this is very disappointing.  Any ideas what to do?

A:Dell N5050 and windows 10

I have had a big Problem with the video drivers in windows 10 and i have even tried compatibility mode as well and the same results all i can say is put windows 8 on there and leave it at that until dell comes up with windows 10 drivers this has been the day from *** for me i have had windows 10 on here for a few months now and all of a sudden the video driver's do not want to work .so i have come to the conclusion that windows 10 does not work on this laptop as of the present time  but windows seven will be fine.even tho Microsoft doesn't support it anymore.and like you i am very disappointed in dell they have some of the best computers that is why people buy the pc's they have i have an older dell XPS that i have had for a long time and windows 10 works great on that but it has Nvidia video drivers not Intel.

A:Dell N5050 Drivers for Windows XP 32Bit

As you have found out, Dell doesn't offer drivers for XP, but there is a chance you might find drivers elsewhere. First we need to find out who makes the hardware and their part number for it.

Open Device Manager and double click on the device name for one of the unknown ? or ! devices, then in the Properties display click the Details tab, then choose Hardware Ids in the Property drop down menu.

You should see a text string similar to this: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_75491462&REV_02

The four digit number after PCI\VEN identifies the manufacturer and the four digit number after DEV identifies the device type. The number after SUBSYS is usually specific to the motherboard or card using the device.

Do this for each device that doesn't work, then copy and paste the text strings here so we can help to locate drivers.

Hey guys I am boot Windows Windows dual 8 Black up. 8 installed, Screen! boot won't having an issue when installing the consumer preview So I downloaded the W iso off of Microsoft's site I burned it to a Windows 8 dual boot installed, Windows 8 won't boot up. Black Screen! DVD with GB free of storage I even bought a new set of DVDs Anyways I downloaded the iso I downloaded the USB DVD download tool there I burned my iso to the DVD So I then create a partition on my computer I gave the new partition GB of storage I rebooted my computer pressed F and access the burned DVD So I click custom installation and I install the new OS onto the partition with GB I named it the partition Windows so I wouldn't get confused I clicked it and installed Windows onto it Anyways once it extracts the data and installs all Windows 8 dual boot installed, Windows 8 won't boot up. Black Screen! the Windows 8 dual boot installed, Windows 8 won't boot up. Black Screen! updates my computer screen goes black for a few seconds Then it load's the fish icon and then goes black It loads nothing and it just stays there I have tried using the startup repair and it cannot fix it I decided to reinstall the OS but format the partition and then install It does the same exact thing Anyways how do I get rid of the black screen Windows won't boot up I allowed a dual boot by the way so I still have windows but I really want to try Windows I followed this guide if anyone was wondering

A:Windows 8 dual boot installed, Windows 8 won't boot up. Black Screen!

I'm having similar issues with Vista and W8. I put W8 on an empty and freshly created partition.
I can get W8 to run but then on every restart or reboot I can not get back to Vista from the "blue dual boot screen". I select Vista as the OS, the laptop goes to the Acer splash screen and then the screen goes black and the HDD light goes off completely. And that's it. Have to do a forced shutdown holding power button and then on next reboot it will go to Vista.
Fortunately I have full Acronis disk images so I can just revert back to before all this but like you I really want to try W8.
