Tecra R850-11U doesn't recognise full memory

Q: Tecra R850-11U doesn't recognise full memory

My Tecra R850-11U has 8GB (2x 4GB) memory inside. I am running W7 professional 64bit and the machine only shows 4GB as memory.

I allready upgraded the bios, but the bios also shows 4GB. I have 2 banks of original samsung memory in it; changed one to an kingston bank but it still doesn't show more than 4GB.

How can i solve this problem?? I like full memory

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Tecra R850-11U doesn't recognise full memory

The chipset supports 8GB RAM so you should be able to use the 8GB.
But if the BIOS does not recognize the 8GB RAM then one of the modules could be faulty or not compatible with another module.

This is only and one plausible explanation for me

I got a R850 and complete random the laptop lockups. When it locks up fans begin to spin full speed and windows is locked up. I need to poweroff the laptop and start again.

This can happen three times on a evening, but it can also occur only ones a week.

Its complete random.

A:Tecra R850 - sometimes OS stuclocks-up, fans spin on full speed

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what happen exactly.
Every new notebook is delivered with clean preinstalled OS and something like this should not happen. Later when you start to install updates or own applications it can happen that some background application ?blocks? the system.

In my opinion either you must check preinstalled stuff, processes that run in the background to see which one can be responsible for this, or you must install recovery image again and check how it works with ?factory settings?.

I factory reset my laptop yesterday and every since the internal mic only works when nothing is plugging into the jack socket, including headphones without a mic and speakers. This was never a problem before the factory reset and i could plug headphones in to hear people and could use the mic to talk.. now i can only talk to people when nothing is plugged in meaning i have to hear people out of the laptop speakers..

Any ideas guys? I dont want to have to buy new headphones :/

A:Tecra R850 - Internal mic doesn't work when headphones are plugged in

Check settings in sound properties (playback and recording devices).
Be sure Microphone is listed and enabled in recording devices.

Please check all this and send some feedback.

I have two Toshiba notebooks and everything works perfectly so I don't see some reason why it should not work on your Tecra too.

As far as I know shared memory works automatically and notebook user cannot control it.
It is nothing new and the same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks.

A:Deleted all on my Tecra R850

I don't know which OS have you use and how your Tecra was configured but if possible reinstall original recovery image. If possible make HDD recovery installation as described on

You can also use recovery disc if you have created it in the past. After doing this you will have clean preinstalled OS. Please check if this works for you. If not let us know.

I'm considering buying a Toshiba Tecra R850 laptop, made in 2011, and even though it's been reconditioned by a reputable local computer company (and comes with a 3 month warantee) I'd like to know if there's been any known problems with this particular model. Despite the claims that the R850 (with Radeon graphics) will do 4 displays, the most I can manage is 2. I'm trying to connect 2 external LCD monitors and still use notebook as another screen (3 in total).

I've done a lot of searching and although I can find plenty of people having the same problem, I cannot find an answer. I've tried updating the driver although that caused more problems than it solved. I am using W7.

Can someone tell me how to use more than 2 displays on a Tecra R850?

In such case you will need to use an external device like Dynadock

Remove the RAM cover and check which modules are inside. It is fixed with two screws.

On a Tecra R850, i can't use the FN key. I install all driver from toshiba and they does'nt work

A:Tecra R850 with Windows WXP - can't use the FN key

The whole thing is a bit complicated with WXP and it is important to install all stuff in right installation order. After some basic drivers like chipset, display, sound you should install common modules at first and continue with Toshiba specific tools and utilities like controls, display device, power saver and so on.

Can you use any FN key combination or none of them is working?

I recently brought +Logitech Stereo Headset H110+ for my +Toshiba Tecra R850-151+. I used a +3.5mm 4 Pin to 2x 3 Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter+ to connect it.

The Headset works correctly as I tried them with another computer.
And with my Tecra R850 the earphones works correctly.

Now, the problem is that the microphone is not recognised with the sufficient volume.
The speech recognition works halfway as the green bar goes up very slightly when I talk through the headset but not enough to recognise my voice. In advanced options I tried to edit the microphone properties increasing the +Microphone level+ up to 100 and +Amplification level+ up +30.0 dB but still the headset did not recognise correctly my speech.

If someone could help me I would appreciate.

Did you already check the Realtek HD audio manager which can be found in control panel?
There are different tabs like Speakers or Microphone.

I recommend you to check microphone tab where you could find different settings like playback level and recording level.

You can also enable the noise suppression which should be also part of the mic

I am thinking of buying a Tecra R850-1D8 to connect it to a Samsung LS27A850DS monitor (2560x1440 px). Both the laptop and the monitor have a DisplayPort, and if I am not mistaken, the Tecra R850 uses the QM67 Express chipset which should support resolutions up to 2560x1600.

HOwever, the Tecra R850 specifications specify a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 for the external monitor, which puzzles me. Can anyone tell me if the R850 supports an external 2560x1440 display via DisplayPort?

Thanks already!

A:DisplayPort at 2560x1440? (Tecra R850)

You can download user?s manuals and open page 111 to find info about DisplayPort but unfortunately there is no table with supported resolutions.

It is listed for HDMI only.

I bought R850 with SSD.
The bad thing is that SSD 256gb installed is limited to SATA II with transfer up to 300/mb. I read that Sandy Bridge Supports SATA III which covers 600/mb.

Is somebody successfuly installed better SSD disk capable with SATA3?

I tried Sisoft Sandra and it reported that SSD SATA is II, the same for Motherboard. The HwINFO reported that chipset is capable with SATA 3. The Everest shows only SSD data with SATA 2.

Is the bios blocked for higher transfers ? I got 180mb/s read, 150 mb/write - which is 3x worse than normal SATA 3 256gb SSD harddisks.

Can anybody help me and tell - if it is matter of R850 bios ? or just only the old Toshiba SSD firmware ? if I buy better SSD with SATA3 - will it fully support higher speed ?

Best Regards

A:Tecra R850 - SSD support for SATA III 6.0GB

I?m not sure what R850-xxx notebook you have but as far as I know this series is equipped with one for the Intel (Sandy Bridge) i3/i5/i7 CPUs.
Also the notebook supports either Intel Cougar Point QM67 (AMT model) or HM65 (Non-AMT model). Both supports SATA II (3Gb/s) and SATA III (6Gb/s)

But for example if the host interface is 300MB/s you get sustained Data Read : Max 250MB/s and sustaine Data Write : Max 160MB/s

So is this normal for the laptop to start when I open the lid? Is there an override?

To be honest, I don?t know exactly what?s going wrong with the fingerprint procedure but I guess this can be related to wrong update to Win 8.1
Probably you did not follow exactly the update procedure which was recommended by Toshiba.

My Tecra R850-1CL (with Ericsson 3G modem) has 2 led indicators for network : a yellow LED for WiFi, and a blue LED for 3G.

Under Windows 7 64-bit, everything was working OK, and Fn+F8 allowed to switch on or off WiFi and 3G.

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, Fn-F8 does only switch to plane mode, yellow Wifi indicator is always on even in plane mode, and blue 3G indicator is almost always on, even when 3G is not connected or when adapter is disabled.

Is it possible to have the resolution in vga as 1280-1024 in external output or using the display port?
I have just seen the 1024 / 768 in the resolution 4/3 format

Maybe in the catalyst graphic card i have look in it without any success

All the resolution for output is in the 16/9 format

Thanks for any help

A:Tecra R850-1HU output VGA external in 1280-1024 (4/3 format)

The display port supports max 2560 x 1600 /32bit resolution.
But the available external resolution depends on the external monitor and the graphic card driver.
If both would support the favorite resolution (1024 / 768 ), you should be able to choose this?

I've got several Notebooks Tecra R850 and Tecra R950. Many users are complaining that they have Problems with UMTS and Toshiba Wireless Manager. Much time the Driver is hanging up and is only working right after a reboot.
I tested a external UMTS USB-Card, it worked without any Problems.
So it's very strange, that there are so much Notebook affected with this Problem. Is there any bug or Problem know?
How can I save the Problem? It's not comfortable!
Thank you and

You need to adjust the Windows Power Plane settings in order to improve the cooling system.

<Setting Method>
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method

Changes in Bios (Power Management):
Intel Turbo boost Technology

Changes in Operating System:
TOSHIBA HW Setup --> CPU Frequency mode

Try this settings:
Power plane (Toshiba power saver) Battery optimized
Intel Turbo Boost technology (BIOS) - Disable
CPU frequency ? Always low

From my experience this should reduce the noise.

Hi all,

we need a drivers package for SCCM, we have different models and series, for example:
TECRA R850-151, TECRA R850-1J5, TECRA R950-11H, etc.

Where do we downloads this package from?

A:SCCM driver packages needed for Tecra R850 / R950 series

For own European notebook series, Toshiba provides the drivers for download on their Toshiba EU driver page:

If you need an SCCM driver packge, I would recommend you to check this Toshiba page:

This package provides the device drivers and tools for your Toshiba business notebook, in order to allow you to deploy Windows images with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) by importing this package.

Dear guys,

I have a Tecra R850 laptop (the graphic card is an AMD Radeon HD 6450M) with a PA3916A-1PRP port replicator.

I already have a 23" running at 1920x1080 connected via HDMI.
I would like to buy a 27" to run it at 2560 x 1440.

So my ideal configuration would be the 27" at 2560 as main monitor and the 23" at 1920 as second monitor. One monitor (the 23") has Display Port, DVI and VGA input, the other one has DVI, Display Port 1.2, Mini Display Port 1.2, HDMI.

Is it possible to connect them as I wish (I would love to avoid the use of VGA)?
Do I need other stuff (another docking for example) to accomplish that?

Any idea is good for me!

Thanks a lot

A:Tecra R850 with 27" display at 2560 x 1440 and 23" display at 1920x1080

Generally speaking you may be able to connect two external monitors at a time depending on your notebook model.

In user manual of Tecra R850 you can read that when the Toshiba HI-Speed Port Replicator II is connected to the notebook, you cannot use _notebook?s_ external RGB (VGA) port.
This port will not work.

Furthermore you cannot use port replicator?s HDMI port and Display Port at the same time.
The hi-speed port replicator II contains a slider which can be moved to choose either the HDMI port or Display Port.

So it seems that you have one option to connect two externa monitors: (VGA + HDMI)
one monitor to HDMI/Display port and other to VGA/RGB port (port replicator's RGB port)

Another option to connect two external monitors at the same time, you should use another docking solution like for example Dynadock U3. It supports an HDMI and DVI port which can be used at the same time.

I have Toshiba Satellite R850-12R PT52CE notebook and recently bought Adata SP900 256Gb SSD disk.
BIOS can see this disk, but after I tried to instal Windows 7 64bit SP1, at Step where I need to choose place to install, there is nothing shown.
So I can't choose anything.

What can be a problem?
I tried to search AHCI drivers for Windows 7, but found only for XP.
At BIOS I tried to set AHCI also Compatible mode, but no success also.

It would be nice if somebody could share solution.

A:Re: Satellite R850-12R PT52CE Win7 doesn't see SSD disk

AHCI driver is not needed for Win 7 since this Win 7 already contains this driver.
What you can do is to add the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver which is available on Toshiba European driver page.

I was just wondering, since i have a lot of stuff in my laptop; is there a way, like a card, to extend my laptop's memory?
As i noticed a big slot inside my laptop on the lower left side, so is there something for a memory extension i can put in there?

all help appreciated!!

A:Way to extend Satellite Pro R850 memory

Do you want to extend the notebook?s memory or HDD?
I think in your post you are talking about the ExpressCard Slot or Smart Card slot (this depends on the model you have purchased)
This slot handles the ExpressCards or Smart Cards

Here is a nice Wikipedia article about Express Cards:

There are different ExpressCards on the market. You can use the SSD Express Cards or HDD Express Card to extend the storage or you can use Express Cards in order to upgrade the notebook with an TV tuner, 3G or similar?

Could someone help me with this strange problem. My girlfriends Sony VAIO notebook plays DVD's fine but does not recognise cd's.

It is pretty new and was pricy. I know for sure that this problem is at least a month old. It started with problems playing a spice girls cd. Then a rewritable cd a few weeks ago. Today the Sims CD didn't work. Finally the dots connected. Problem is with the CD reader.

I assume this is software related because DVD's play fine.

Could someone tell me where I should begin trouble shooting.

Do you have a bootable CD?

Do you know how to configure the computer to boot to a bootable CD?

If yes to both, do so. If it succeeds, you know the problem is within Windows or a program.

If it fails, you know the problem is the drive [ or possibly the bootable CD. Be sure to try > 1 bootable CD if the 1st one fails. ]

I might have accidentally deleted the software and I feel like a complete nitwit (and turning back the time(or whatever the feature is called) doesn't work).

You probably need to reinstall the motherboard audio drivers or audio card drivers.

These are motherboad specific, but the specs in your sig give no clue that would allow us to point you to the right makers website to download them.

My PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. My mobile is a Windows 'phone running Windows 8.1 (update 2) I have Dropbox synced between the two.
And yet the PC thinks that I have two other devices which I don't have and cannot recognise the Windows 'phone - even when they are connected by cable and that connection works perfectly well.

This is making it impossible for me to be active on Instagram (as one example although I did set up an account on a previous Android 'phone) and to connect apps I have on the PC to the mobile.

Can someone please tell me how to stop the PC seeing what is not there and see what is there?

Yes, I know that I will need to upgrade to Windows 10 which I know is needed for the Instagram app.but that is not the immediate problem.

A:My PC thinks I have devices I don't have but doesn't recognise what I do have.

If you are talking about Devices in Devices and Printers, this shows all the devices that have connected to your network, including your computer (eg) Cable or Satellite TV box, Smart TV, Blu-Ray player, Printers as well as any other phone, MP3 player or computer etc. If these devices have ever connected to the internet from your router, they will show in your Devices and Printer. If they are no longer connected to your network they will be greyed out. If you no longer have this device, you can right click it and choose Remove Device.
This has nothing to do with your Windows phone connecting to your computer. When you plug the phone in, it should say New Hardware Found, and you must press Trust this device on the phone.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? Or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click this and Uninstall it. Remove the USB cable from the Computer End, Restart your computer. Once the computer restarts, plug the USB cable into the Back USB port of the computer (desktop) and not the front or through Hub as these ports are weaker. or a different USB port if on a laptop. You should get new hardware found, be sure to Trust the Device.

Has anyone found this behavior too?

After rebooting (this happened a couple of times...with the hdd and today with the ssd so it should not be their fault) the windows or toshiba screen do not appears only a black screen, no disc activity and the fan works like crazy!!! I stop this after 1-2 minutes because nothing happen!

A:Tecra R840-16J - reboot with the fan at full power and no activity

In my opinion it cannot happen without any reason.
Have you made anything that can be responsible for this? BIOS update maybe?

A:Tecra A9 - After CPU upgrade fan runs constantly on full power

I believe calibration needs to be performed to set up the fan speed table.
A Toshiba Service Center can do this.

Have been having this problem - but intermittently. Couldn't figure out why!

Discovered today that if I connect the iPod to the PC when the device is less than 60% charged, iTunes won't see it.

Fully charge then reconnect and everything will probably be fine!

I have an Abit BD711-raid motherboard that supports three 184 pin DDR DIMM memory modules up to 2GB maximum. I have purchased 2 1GB strips of the correct memory but the computer only recognizes them as only 512 MB strips. I have tried them in in all the slots in turn i.e. 1+2, 2+3 and 1+3 but it still only states 1 GB of ram. If I take one strip out it states 512 MB of ram. Could anyone help with this problem as I presume it should read 2 GB of ram. The computer works fine otherwise, Many thanks.

Hi I'm getting warning messages at startup and when I've logged into my windows account on my new laptop (literally just out of the box). It's apparently the internal battery, which also won't charge. I've read posts about downloading drivers but I've tried reinstalling these and nothing has changed. What do I do? I'm also having problems with the cursor drifting on its own. Cheers

My motherboard is gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 3 and it doesn't seem to detect my graphics card. If I plug my monitor in the graphics card I won't see anything, but if I plug it directly into the mother board I can see it. The graphics card is also from gigabye but I don't know its name. Do you have any idea on how to solve this ?

Edit : My graphics card is gv-n460se-1gi

Okay, so I input my USB drive; it doesn't detect any data and wants to reformat it, I decide to go ahead with it, but it simply says "windows can't format device E:". It does the same thing with my MSI drivers disk... Please help

A:Windows 10 doesn't recognise USB drives or Disks

Sometimes my USB drives won't detect. Make sure they are showing in Device Manager and Disk Manager. It should be just a generic USB driver and it should be included in Windows 10.

Plug in your Drive and reboot the system, then check for a device wizard as it starts up. If the drive uses proprietary drivers make sure you have then downloaded. I have one WD MyBook/2TB and one WD 1TB Drive attached via USB, plus a DVD Burner in an external case. They all detect, but sometimes they take a while. Also sometimes USB Printers can stall you on Boot, I keep them unplugged until booted and all other devices are found. My main Printer is on an LPT Port, so I don't have that problem with that printer. But other printers stall me on Bootup. And your USB ports might be bad, check all of them. I have 8 USB ports plus a powered USB Hub, you will probably need a powered Hub to run those drives.

Hi guys, i'm trying to reinstall xp(Pro) on a Philips MT1800 but at the partition creation point setup advises no disc found (WD2500JS Sata disc with no raid controller (i think) as the cable comes straight from the motherboard rather than a controller card. the WesternDigital site only has controller drivers so tried these on a usb floppy with the same result. Any ideas where i'm going wrong?

A:xp install doesn't recognise SATA disc

You need to feed a controller driver to the XP installer.

The controller driver is always supplied with the mobo.

Some background info:
I have two memory drives: a 125GB SSD and a 500GB HD.
I was messing around with a linux distribution, backtrack. I'd made a partition in my HD and installed it there. After exploring it for a bit, I decided to delete it. I simply wiped the partition, which messed up my boot. After fixing it I discovered that My Computer doesn't list the HD.

It does however, show up in disk manager as a healthy and active partition, although my only available option there is to delete it.

Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 doesn't recognise second hard drive.

Linux uses different partition types from Windows, so in order to use that drive with Windows you will need to delete the existing Linux partition and then create a new one.

For some reason, when I insert a disc onto my E: Drive, it doesn't recognise the disc as being there. The E: Drive is listed where it should be in My Computer, but doesn't recognise a disc when inserted into it. I uninstalled the E: Drive which reinstalled automatically on reboot, but the problem remains. Can anyone recommend what steps I should take to remedy this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

A:E: Drive doesn't recognise discs inserted

It doesn't recognize a specific cd or any cd?

Let's make sure the driver works. Insert a BOOTABLE disc, make sure the optical drive is the first device in your bios boot order, and reboot. Does the system see the drive at boot?

I have a pendrive partitioned in two which I did on my Mac in Disk Utility The first partitioned Windows recognise pendrive doesn't partition is a linux bootable install pen formatted to FAT the second is Windows doesn't recognise partitioned pendrive a data partition also FAT Interesting OS situation I know Under Linux or Mac OS X this set-up works perfectly however in Windows every version it will only read the first partition which is no good seeing as unless I'm rebooting into it I don't need it The format has to be FAT as Mac OS X doesn't support NTFS without rd party add-on's and Windows can't read HFS and I don't think EXT by default I need to change something on the drive as most of the Windows machines I use aren't mine to install stuff on I think the problem could most probably be solved by changing the partition order but I don't really want to do this since I have no idea if the Linux installer will boot if it isn't on the primary partition Is there anything else I can do to make windows recognise the second partition instead of or in addition to the first Thank you in advance

I'm currently running Windows XP but I would like to install 64-bit Vista that I purchased some time ago but I've been having problems with the OS recognizing my wireless adapter. The adapter is Abit Air Pace Wi-Fi and my mobo is Abit AB9 Pro. Please can anyone help me cause I'm ready to burn Vista and dance around the fire . In other words, I'm going insane. Btw, the adapter works on both XP and Windows 7 (beta) so please don't advise me to replace it .

I am running an HP Compaq 8510w with Windows 7 Enteprise. When I first got the laptop the USB ports didn't recognise devices when they were plugged in, and the laptop would just hang when shutting down (on the Windows Shutting Down screen), so I decided to reinstall the OS as there was a lot of unnecessary applications installed.

I've been using the laptop since the rebuild and all has been good, until the past week or so when the same two problems have materialised again - when I attach a PSP, or a printer via USB, they are not recognised. And when I shut the laptop down, it hangs on the Shutting Down screen.

What checks can I run to see what the cause of this might be? I've not really installed a load of software on here, and I can't think of anything specific that I may have done that would cause this...

I have an old 390E still running Windows 98 and with a miserly 128Mb memory.  Rather than bin it, I'd like to get it working, so I can at least give it away. Unfortunately it has developed a number of glitches.  I bought a 390E recovery disk in the hope of resetting everything to original settings.  However the laptop has stopped recognising its CD drive.  Disks inserted into the drive do not autorun, and using START > RUN doesn't work either.  It doesn't recognise D:\.  There is no evidence of the existence of a CD drive in MY COMPUTER, and it doesn't appear in the list of devices in Windows. I may well have deleted some vital file in my attempts to get it working properly. Does anyone have any ideas how I might get over this problem? Many thanks.
