Q: Satellite L870-17X - Lost pointing device

Lost pointing device after pc updated automatically, have used recovery facility from HD but no result?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry but I didn?t understand what is wrong there.
Can you please use more than one sentence for problem description?

What do you mean with ?recovery facility from HD??

I?m new to this forum so apologies if I?ve posted in the wrong place.
I have just purchased an Sat Pro L870-18R for my wife as a christmas pressy.
Before she gets it I was going to upgrade the Ram from 4GB to 8GB.

I know it has a single stick of ddr3 1600Mhz in it but without opening it up does any one know what manufacturer of Ram Tosh use for this machine?

I would like to keep the same manufacturer.
If I can to at least give it a chance of running dual channel. I know i could just take it apart and look as I?m going to have to open it anyway to fit the new ram.

I just i didn?t want o keep packing it and unpacking it and opening and closing it up it is a present after all lol .

Any help appreciated thnk

A:What Ram modules are used in Satellite Pro L870-18R

First of all the RAM brand is not very important to get the RAM running in dual channel.
Important is that both RAM modules would support the same specs.

As far as I know the unit was equipped with an SO-DIMM 4GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) module. I guess the part number is: *PA3918U-1M4G*

Hey, I have a Satellite Pro L870-18G with a AMD Radeon HD 7670M card installed. I've been reading up on the specs and see that this specific card uses HyperMemory that works together with the RAMs installed in the laptop. I want to install 16GB RAM instead of the standard 4GB installed and so I am interested in how this will affect my graphics.

According to Toshiba?s own description it will work this way:
+2,048 MB dedicated VRAM. Available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through HyperMemory? technology: up to 3,823 MB with 4 GB system memory installed, and up to 5,871 MB with 8 GB system memory installed+

Where can I see if HyperMemory is enabled and can I see how much memory the graphic card is currently "giving"?

A:HyperMemory on Satellite Pro L870-18G

If you expand the RAM to 16GB RAM, the bigger part could be shared with graphic card.
The graphic card driver assigns the part of the system RAM to graphic memory automatically and this means that its impossible to change this value manually.

In case more graphic memory would be necessary, the driver would share this part automatically.

Due to general failure of my old motherboard, I had to change it for a new one on a toshiba satellite L870-18x.

The new one i bought seems not to have a win8 license in its Bios

So when I try to install win8 i'm stuck on the license number asking box.

I'd like to find my old win8 license number in order to reinstal win8 on my satellite.

Could someone help me do, please ?

Purchased the "SATELLITE PRO L870-18R" alongside a "Intel Core i7-3740QM 2.70 GHz FCPGA988 L3 6 MB 4 Cores CPU 2.70GHz" in order to perform a cpu upgrade and get a nice machine.

Machine boots as expected with it's stock i3, but the white LED blinks once and no post when the cpu upgrade is applied.
Is their a bios that will support this CPU, if not what is the max cpu this toshiba will upgrade to. Bit disheartened i cant upgrade.

A:Satellite Pro L870-18R - No boot after CPU upgrade

Is their a bios that will support this CPU

BIOS updates are not released to allow new CPU supports but BIOS updates are release to fix possible notebook issues…

if not what is the max cpu this toshiba will upgrade to. Bit disheartened i cant upgrade.

Fact is that notebook manufacturers don’t support CPU upgrades on own notebooks… this means that there are no further information about possible and supported CPUs.

However, usually an new CPU requires an chipset support and BIOS… so in case you want to perform such upgrade (of course only at your own risk) then you will need to use an CPU which is supported by Intel Chipset. But there is no guarantee that notebook would functions even if using an CPU which would be supported by chipset…

Hi, I'm the owner of a Satellite Pro L870-173 Notebook.
During writing an email the functions of the keyboard changed.
Some keys have another meaning, here are some examples

Space lab = ?
4 =? v4v4
c =The optio? for a secodon display

What can I do?
Is the cause a defect keyboard?
Do somebody have an idea?

The system is a Win8? 6v4-bit
The settings of the keyboard is still the same: German language

Thanks a lot!

A:Keyboard issue on Satellite Pro L870-173

Yes, I?ve got an idea.

> Is the cause a defect keyboard?
I?m afraid, yes.

You can confirm my idea connecting external USB keyboard to the notebook.
In case your external keyboard would work properly, the issue is related definitely to the internal keyboard.

Hey everyone.

Have just bought a Satellite Pro 870-17X and for some reason the screen keeps going black. The laptop is actually going into sleep mode or similar.

The obvious thing would be the settings but after adjusting them it still wont last any longer than 2 minutes (timed it to check).

Really confused with this one so any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Thankyou in advance.. :-)

A:Re: Satellite Pro L870-17X - screen goes black in 2 minutes

I don?t understand what do you mean with ?screen goes black? but try please to change power settings for certain power plan.
There you can find settings about ?dim the display?, ?turn off the display? and ?put computer to sleep?.
Play a bit with all these settings.

The Windows 8.1 upgrade could fail if installed Windows 8 system isn?t up to date.
I recommend you to check for available Win 8 updates (control panel -> system -> Windows update)

You should start with Win 8.1 upgrade only when all patches for Win 8 would be installed

I am experiencing strange intermittent behaviour with my keyboard mainly when using excel spreadheets where the screen zooms in and out, multiple cells are highlighted when trying to enter data, data is copied into seperate sheets & different characters are entered to the key being pressed.
The zooming in and out issue also happens when using internet explorer.

I have searched the forums for similar issues and one post suggests updating the bios, but I already have the latest version. I have also checked that my drivers are uptodate,

Any help appreciated.

A:Re: Satellite Pro L870-172 Intermittent Keyboard Behaviour

Just one question: is it possible that you are using touchpad while working with excel or other software?
As far as I know this notebook?s touchpad supports some additional features like TOUCHPAD with GESTURE. So possibly you used an touchpad?s zoom feature without knowing that?

Please test it with external USB mouse?

Additionally I recommend you checking this Toshiba document how to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?

I have a Satellite Pro L870-15E laptop.

I've seen in a compatibility list I've been sent via Tempra that my laptop should not be Win 10-compatible.

How come that a laptop which is neither so old nor so cheap is not considered to be compatible with Windows 10?

A:Satellite Pro L870-15E and missing Windows 10 compatibility

How come that a laptop which is neither so old nor so cheap is not considered to be compatible with Windows 10?

I guess that in this user to user forum nobody will be able to answer this question but from my point of few every notebook / computer manufacturer have to decide which models would get the further software support…
Toshiba still releases lot of notebook models within a short period of time and in my opinion it’s not easy to provide support for all notebook series… so somewhere it’s necessary to perform a clean cut …

But you can still install the Windows 10 on your notebook and I’m quite sure that the system will work flawlessly but probably some of the notebook features could not be available due to missing software…

Hi - the touch pad on my Satellite Pro L870-18G (Windows 8) has suddenly stopped working (after less than 2 months' use) - which makes the laptop rather difficult to use. According to the device manager there is nothing wrong with the driver - but I tried to reinstall anyway (didn't help).
Do these things normally suddenly fail?

Why does the device manager say there is no problem when there quite clearly is?

Hi all,

Does anybody know of an issue that could cause a no boot (just stays on Toshiba logo forever) followed by boot on the second try pretty much every time on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L870 (Windows 8)?

Thanks in advance

A:Satellite Pro L870 stays on Toshiba logo forever - no boot

Usually the notebook performs the POST (power on self test) while the Toshiba splash screen is visible.
While power in self test, the essential motherboard hardware components (i.e RAM) would be checked.

I think the POST cannot be passed properly and therefore the notebook freezes at the Toshiba logo screen.

But unfortunately, I cannot say for sure what part might be affected? it could be an simple RAM problem or some serious motherboard issue.

My new Windows 8 machine frequently, but not always, displays a split screen with vertical black lines after waking up. When I say split screen, I mean it appears that the screen has 'rolled' to the right, with the right third of the screen or so disappearing and rolling around to the left. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, between the two issues, it renders the machine unusable. I can just about find the restart button, but it means I'm forced into it against my will.

Graphics driver up to date. (According to windows device driver)

Any ideas?

A:Satellite Pro L870-17X: Vertical Black lines and split screen after wake up

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue. I think you are the first one who reports about that.
Maybe you should back-up all your data and reinstall OS using HDD recovery option.
After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again and test it if the same happen again.

For how long do you have this machine?

Hi littlelisa, welcome to TSG.

1) You might take a look in your bios setup to see if there is an entry there for PS2 mouse, and disable it from there.

2) If not, go to start button, settings, control panel, system, device manager, find the ps2 mouse and place a check mark in the box that says 'disable in this hardware profile' and restart the computer.

The pointing device in question is the touchpad and the left and right clicking buttons on your laptop so it's probably better to go to the manufacturer's site and find the right driver.

HI all I know I don't post freezing keeps Device Synaptics Pointing on these Forums much like I do on the Windows Forums but anyhow I just upgraded my laptop from Windows Pro to Windows Pro and I am currently working on getting all of the Synaptics Pointing Device keeps freezing updates installed but while the updates are installing and I am doing other things I am having some issues with my touchpad not wanting to respond and freezing up when it does this I know it has nothing to do with the actual PC itself as I am able to hit the Windows Button and it takes me back to the start screen but yet the touchpad is still frozen I have been trying everything to keep it from freezing and I just don't know what to do the driver itself is all up to date and everything so if somebody can give me some advice with this issue that would be greatly appreciated thank you and have a good night

what is is exactly and is it essential to my laptops fuctionality? if I remove it will it harm my pc or if I need a specific driver can I just go to manufacturers site?

A:synaptics pointing device driver?

The pointing device driver...allows notebook users to use that small area on the the same way that some use a mouse.

Me, I prefer a mouse. Sooo...if I remove mine from my laptop, there's no impact. If I used that area on the laptop, I would not remove the drivers for it, unless I thought that the drivers were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Chances are, replacement drivers are available for download at the website of the laptop manufacturer.

A:Synaptics pointing device freezes

Is it a wireless mouse, if so check the batteries.

If it is chorded try another mouse and see if the problems persists.

Check these settings:

Go to the Control Panel and select Mouse. From the mouse properties screen click the Hardware tab. on the next screen under the Genral tab click on Change Settings. Then select the Power Management tab and make sure it is set to "Allow this device to wake the computer" and not "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

This is correct instruction for Windows 7, if you have a different OS (which you should have stated) there may be some minor differences.

Open up Tapping and the areas for the tap and drag and tapping zones are greyed out.

How can I activate them?

A:Synaptics Pointing Device Driver

Sound like the driver may not be properly installed. First check Device Manager to see if it's working OK (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. See if the device has a red x or yellow ! by it.

You can go to the HP site and download updated drivers for the touchpad if need be.

Then, check in Control Panel for the Mouse or Pointing Device option - then open it to see if the rest of the software is functioning correctly.

Finally, ensure that any switches that may enable this are turned on (there may not be a switch - I'm unsure about HP laptops). But I had a similar problem with a touchpad that took 2 hours to solve - and all it was was that the switch was off!

Hi there,

could you please help me with this situation. I have a tablet on my desktop pc and it's working fine but i have all this stuff that I don' need.

1. When I click (put pen down on surface) i see a little animated circle.
2. When I click in a text field it automaticly displays a little keyboard icon on witch I can click to open virtual keyboard and type stuff.
3. After first click there is slide-out keyboard always present on the left side of the screen.

So my question is: Is there a way to disable all this "helpers" so I could have my tablet behave like a regular mouse. Where and what should I look in control panel?

P.S. Sorry about my English.

can anyone tell me how to fix this? Visata is driving me mad!!!!

A:Alps pointing-device Driver has stopped working

Your Alps pointer problem is probably driver related. To fix it:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Right click on Computer & choose properties
3. Open Device Manager (Admin password may be required)
4. Under Mice & other pointing devices, right click Alps pointing-device & choose Update driver software
5. Choose Search automatically & it will download and install the latest signed driver from the windows repositories & hopefully that will fix that problem.

good luck, hope this helps

A:The pointing stick device on the Elitebook 2740p doesn't wor...

If the touchpad works but not the pointer stick try going into the BIOS (F10 on power up) and see if you can enable/disable dual pointing devices. Here is the Service Manual: Manual I do not see that there is a setting in the BIOS for dual pointing devices. You might also try going into the Windows Control Panel and check the Mouse settings to see if there is anything there which can enable/disable dual pointing devices. I can tell you it is not a driver issue as the pointer stick works through basic Windows drivers even before you install the HP driver for the touchpad, which should provide enhanced function (e.g. scrolling) on the pointer stick and its buttons, too. Pointer sticks can go bad and the ribbon cable that connects them to the mobo can get disconnected too. It is not too hard to remove the keyboard and make sure everything is hooked up right.

I opened the Control Panel and then the Mouse applet. I got the message in the title:

I think the Synaptics applet that runs in the background somehow got disabled.

Okay, so I'm having issues with disabling Palm Tracking with Synaptics pointing device.
I've browsed over the internet for ages, looking at different tutorials with similar solutions. The one problem I'm having is that they all tell me go to Control Panel> hardware and sound> Mouse> Device settings, and then click on settings. I can do up to here, but when the settings interface is brought up, it looks different to anything mentioned in any tutorials.
I can find the Palm tracking option under advanced, but it only allows me to turn it to minimum, not off.

Any help is appreciated!

I need help with this please, I'm not really an expert in technology, so I think I may have done something wrong.

So here's what happened:

I got tired of my laptop's shutdown being a bit slow, so I went to figure out how to solve it. A forum stated to use the Msconfig' option which only shut down all the drivers when I used basic mode. When I activated normal mode again, everything was fine.

So I decided to see if I could change the mouse pointing, and I get a message saying the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is not connected and the icon that appears on the windows 7 tray is gone.

Did the driver become removed during that incident or?

I'd appreciate some help Ever since the Big Windows update nearly two weeks ago the automatic updates history shows that Windows is updating and installing the ALPS pointing device driver once a day nearly every single day Obviously this is a bug I ALPS & pointing device updates installs Windows10 day driver every don't get any message telling me that the update failed however It just seems to Windows10 updates & installs ALPS pointing device driver every day mindlessly repeat the operation every day for no good reason I've searched various help forums and it would seem that it's impossible to disable automatic updates for any single or specific driver because Windows knows best I understand that I can simply disable the device and its updates but I don't want to do that even though I rarely use the touchpad I have the touchpad disabled when a USB mouse is plugged in Also I should point out that this is not interfering with my laptop's performance per se as far as I can tell It's just annoying to know that this is happening every day and is a needless bit of activity Thanks for any help you can give me

This problem with my laptop continues.

I ran the Secunia program, removed all the old versions and installed the latest ones, and I'm still getting this prompt about my touchpad. Only happens when I'm online and it usually takes 10 or 20 minutes after startup b4 it happens.

I'm worried about two things: the possibility my laptop is under attack and that I've said something wrong in this forum and that that accounts for the lack of any response to my post. The latter is of greater concern to me.

Is this concern well-founded?

I've been away from home and I don't have my laptop with me, but I was reading a blog this morning and I came across the word troll. Never had seen it used like that b4, did a little research. I have zero information about the thinking which informs the response to this post, but the troll thing reminded me of that "0" in the "Replies" column. I always tell people they should never deny things they haven't been charged with, so I'll say this: I'm a novice user who thinks his computer has been attacked and wants some advice about dealing with it. That's it.

I thank you in advance for any and all help.

I have formatted my machine today and re-installed the same OS (Windows XP Pro) but didn't notice that my windows key on the back of my Satellite A100-709 was torn. :(

So now I have a working machine with an inactive license.
Any idea how i can retrieve it, should I be talking to Toshiba/Windows to get it knowing that they might b having it in their books?

A:Satellite A100-709 - Windows XP Pro Lost Key

Hello omak

Problem s that this key at the bottom is not for OS activation and it is licence for original Windows version that Toshiba has offered with this notebook.

If you use own WXP installation than you must use legal licence key for this version.
Do you have original Toshiba recovery DVD that you got with your notebook?

We have lost our password on only the second time out of the box!

I believe we need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature by pressing F8 when the computer is first switched on and select from menu Repair my Computer. This o.k. but Toshiba HDD recovery is also password protected.

Help please!

Hi mate

What password do you mean exactly?
Are you speaking about BIOS password which appears directly after powering the notebook?

If yes, then I have bad news for you;
You will need assistance from Toshiba ASP technician :( Only the ASP can remove such password.

Yesterday, all of a sudden, my keyboard stopped working correctly. I've checked all the Keyboard Configurations, and they're correctly set to Portuguese, but when I try to use symbols (absolutely necessary in my language) they execute different tasks, for example, when I press "?" the cursor goes down the page, as if I'd pressed "Page Down".

When I press "Backspace", it erases the previous letter, but then it goes to the beggining of the line (as if I'd pressed "Home").

I've re-installed the controller, and everything, but I can't understand what's going on.

When I connect an external keyboard, it works perfectly.

Can you help me?

Thank you,

My R630 LCD screen had always been using HD 1366x768 resolution (16x9 aspect ratio).
But not anymore ;(

This week, after the battery went out and I had it recharged the laptod came up with 1280x800 as the top most resolution available, thus displaying black blank areas ontop and to the right of the screen.
No changes (hw+sw) have been made to the laptop for this to have happened,
I am using the updated Intel HD drivers but the option to choose the topmost HD1366x768 resolution is vanished from the menu.

I can only use 1280x800 not covering the whole screen.

Please, I can I get 1366x768 back so I can get a proper use of my Toshiba.

Thank you in advance

A:Lost HD 1366x768 resolution on Satellite R630

Did you try to reinstall the Intel display driver?
Uninstall the Intel graphic driver firstly. Then download the compatible driver from the Toshiba driver page and install this?

But before doing this try this short workaround:
- Disconnect the AC adaptor
- Remove battery
- Wait some time (3-4 hours)
- Then press power button 30 sec long
- Now insert the battery and ac adaptor and power up the unit
- Check if the resolution would be available.

Good luck

Satellite L50-C-1GJ. Shortly after upgrading to Windows 10 I received 5 tempro alerts advising I should update utilities. 2 of them required the deletion of the existing utility. I clearly did this in the wrong order,. I expected to be able to retrieve the updates from tempro, but I do not know the names of the 2 utilities. I am sure they are missing and I need to reinstall them.

On restart next morning after an alleged abnormal shutdown my Satellite P70-A01D (Windows 8.1) had lost all the sub-folders and files in \Libraries\Documents. There was weak thunderstorm activity overnight. Is it possible a lightning strike could be responsible? Other elements of \Libraries seem ok. Can anyone help please?

A:I lost all sub-folders and data on Satellite P70-A01D

This is called data corruption. The only way is to remove the HDD and try a HDD recovery utility like @active data recovery or similar. Under no circunstances write to the damaged disk. Use another disk to copy the recovered files.

Is this possible or must i purchase the recovery disks from Toshiba?

Yes you can use iso file and drivers offered on Toshiba download page but you cannot use product key for activation. As far as i know this key belongs to original recovery image that you got with your machine.

I tried to find and also tried some drivers from the homepage, but I didn't get the right one.

Do some know which driver I exacly need?

Thank you!

A:Satellite R850-14T - Lost FN functionality after Win 7 installation

Hi mate

Did you install VAP (value added package)?
If not do this. After that reboot the notebook and check the FN button functionality.

If FN button would not work, install Flash Card Support Utility which you could find in driver area for other notebook notebooks; for example L500

My Satellite Pro M70 has three USB slots, one to the left and two (vertically one over the other) at the back of the laptop.

The upper USB slot at the rear is beginning to give problems. At times my computer does not see whatever I have plugged in there. But if I unplug whatever it is - usually the printer or the mouse - the computer will usually then see it.

What is the problem? Can anything be done to rectify it?

My operating system is XP. and my laptop is 4.33 year old.

Forgive my ignorance but where or how do you access it?

I cannot see it in control panel.

Go to control panel => system => hardware => device manager!
Or you right click on ?my computer? => properties => hardware => device manager.

A:Satellite L10W cannot boot from any device

I know this is an old post ... is "secure boot" enabled in the UEFI firmware (BIOS)? If it is, it will do a security check before loading one of the previously defined operating systems in the firmware.

Also, I'm interested in how you replaced the hard disk. Is it easily accessible? I have removed all the screws I can see on the back of mine but can't get the cover off.
Any tips would be appreciated.

I use Audacity to record from various analogue sources, using the line-in capability of the combo socket.
With the latest Windows 10 update, this is gone.
Line-in doesn't appear in the recording devices list of the audio mixer nor the list in Audacity.
I have re-installed Realtek drivers and the drivers from the Toshiba site but the fault remains.
Has anybody else had the same problem and has anybody found a solution?

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

A:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot,

I upgraded my Click Mini to Windows 10 as soon as I got it yesterday.

All appeared well until I restarted it and it would not boot, reporting there was a drive problem.

Eventually, after using the keylogger to unlock the drive, I reset the machine (asking it to keep my files and it has reinstalled Windows 10 but I seem to have lost the Toshiba programs that were on there.

They don't appear in the program list.

Is there a way of getting them back without reverting the unit back to Windows 8.1 in Recovery and then putting Win 10 back on.
Took hours.

Thanks for any help.

If you have ticked the option “Keep my Files” the Windows 10 would still remove apps and settings but it keeps your personal files like pictures, mp3, movies, docs, etc.

Please check this:
