My USB port is disabled in BIOS. How do I hard reset the BIOS with no keyboard access? Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have this problem too. I've sent a message to Lenovo to see if they have a procedure. I know that for other devices it is possible to reset using just a power button menu. catzi67: did you manage to solve the issue?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Beacon-Stick-300-D-J-and/Hard-reset-BIOS-on-Stick-300/td-p/2267136
Problem: When I press "ON" I hear a jolt vibration, and an orange LED light turns on, the screen stays black. Nothing after that. Stays black for two minutes; then the screen lights in "night blue" on the background. (Please see picture at bottom) I HAVE TRIED: hard reset, tried going into the BIOS (by holding windows+B). No luck. Please help with steps to fix. Will appreciate it. Thank you.
Please try the structural troubleshooting from the following weblink which might resolve the issue:http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Split-13-g100-x2-PC/5405588/model/5447133/document/c04718479/http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Not-booting-already-tried-hard-reset-and-going-to-BIOS/td-p/5774301
Okay, so I was playing world of warcraft when my computer started to beep at me every once in awhile. Later it happened more often and my screen would flicker. I thought perhaps it was my video card overheating and that something was overclocked within bios so I reset the bios settings to default.
Then when it went to load it said booting from cd, remove media etc etc. Insert system disc.

Hi, I lost password and my reset stick for ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1 .
Is there a safe way to get in without Restoring and losing saved data?
There is a slight problem with this type of issue. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that we have no way of determining if you are the legal owner of this computer or not. And one of our forum rules reads in part ....
No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures.
This is probably a innocent situation, but I can't personally decide if this is the truth.
Obviously have have access to another computer, so I would suggest purchasing an external enclosure which you can connect via a USB port and access your data and save it to removable media, like an external hdd, flash drive, etc. You can purchase an external enclosure at Newegg for $9.00 + tax, shipping is free. This includes the cables and instructions.
After that you can go online and Google for solutions which may be able to help you to retrieve your password. I suspect that you will not be able to use the System Recovery Partition to reinstall the operating system without the password. You could try wiping the C: partition and then using the recovery partition to reinstall the operating system and go from there. You might be able to use a program like Darik's Boot and Nuke to overwrite that partition. You are going to need to be very careful not to let anything happen to the recovery partition, otherwise you will be calling the manufacturer of this computer to get the installation media.
Hi community. After making a mess of a previous factory reset atempt and wiping the the HP recovery drive and tools drive I have obtained a recovery stick from HP (F9A59AV#UUF) and I am teriffied of messing everything up again so I am asking for help before going any further.I have inserted the drive and it opens in Windows file explorer and ran 8.1 setup, checked for updates but could only get as far as"windows has failed to determine supported install choices" setup failed. What do I do next please?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HOW-TO-USE-RECOVERY-STICK-FOR-FACTORY-RESET/td-p/5781394
I tried to make a second Password Reset USB stick. Windows said if I do that, the first one will become unusable. There must be some way to make a backup USB stick. Thank you............
When you create a password reset disk on a USB flash drive, it will create and add a userkey.psw file on the USB flash drive for the specific local user account. You can copy the userkey.psw file to another location as a backup. If you need to restore it, copy it to the root directory of a USB flash drive.

On Win7/64, created a custom power plan that turns off the display after 3 hours. If I hibernate and come back, all is well. Sometime later (in days), and I'm guessing it's after a reboot, it gets set back to the 20 minute default. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas on how get it to work properly and not change the value on me?
Does it delete the plan you created, or just move it to another plan?http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/218838-turn-off-display-time-gets-reset-doesnt-stick.html
Hi,I cannot log in on the Windows screen. I have a password for Bios. I just need to be able to get into this computer, I bought almost 2 years ago on eBay and have not been able to use it! i had the system switch off. and unplugged. in the morning when i plug it back in, it comes up with an error in the bios, the date/time etc... is not set. i had to go in and set the time again, once it is set, it bootup fine, until it get's to the window's and it keep resetting itself.
anyone have any suggestion to why the bios got reset? the battery is dead?
right now i'm trying to get into safe mode to disable the "automatically restart" so i can see if the window reset is cause by the blue-screen-of-death.
I'm betting that you have a bad CMOS battery...
I have a Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 Core) and i am trying to factory reset to the default settings again because of the stupid problems i am having on the tablet.
Here is the problem i am trying to get into the BIOS which is the 1 step on the Acer website but for some bizarre reason when it is completely off i press the Windows button and the power button to get in to the BIOS as it says on the Acer Website but it keeps going to the start menu/desktop now instead of going to the BIOS. :/
I have factory reset/hard reset on my Acer Iconia W700 a couple times and i never had this problem before, i gone in to the BIOS no problem!!!
Can someone help me please?? Thanks!!!
Is it still under warranty? You should try contacting Acer.http://forums.windowscentral.com/general-tablet-laptop-discussion/397817-windows-8-tablet-factory-reset-hard-reset-problem-help.html

Hello! Is it possibile to recover BIOS on Stick 300 after failure during update to latest BIOS version under Windows?(it hanged on screen Dont Power off.....)Now on power on it switches on a blue LED on stick for a 3-4 seconds. And I see some activity with flash in USB port - Led on flash is blinking for a few seconds. But no video signal on HDMA and not responding to keyboard. Is it possible to boot from USB and recover BIOS or any other way? Thanks.Alex.
Hi, I also have this question as the BIOS on my stick was Version 8 and I tried to update it with the version 7 which was provided by the support page. As the flash software doesn't prevent updating older BIOS via newer BIOS it flashed the BIOS and now I get "No Boot Device found" when starting the stick. I'm trying to update my BIOS. I have downloaded the update for my HP notebook from the HP website and installed it. When I run the HP System BIOS Update Utility and select Create Recovery USB flash drive, the drive is detected but I get a format error. I have tried numerous USB sticks of various sizes. All fail the format step. As a result of the failure to format, the USB is unreadable, ans must be reformatted via the Windows format command. My best guess is that although the HP System BIOS Update Utility installs and runs, it may not be compatible with Windows 10.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/BIOS-backup-USB-stick-format/td-p/5756954
Well I mistakenly decided to try updating the BIOS on the Stick 300 before I was going to try slapping x64 Windows 10 on there.....and it bricked spectacularly, using the EFI USB method. Found these forums and I have the same behavior as others, blue light on for a bit, flash flash activity on attached usb memory stick, blue light off, and it repeats, zero HDMI output to the monitor at any point. I cannot find a way to ask Lenovo about a repair option. I would like to talk or email someone about sending it in to be addressed for a certain price type of deal. It is out of warranty, which I find strange that the warranty is so short on this product, and that seems to make it about impossible to contact support. Anyone know of a way to get their attention to get replies?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Beacon-Stick-300-D-J-and/Stick-300-Bricked-after-BIOS-update-via-EFI-USB-METHOD/td-p/3373734

HP 110-016 runing updated Windows 10. Am trying to dual boot to ubuntu. Ubuntu is installed and works along side windows. Changing the boot order in the BIOS will not stick. It always changes back to boot only windows. I get into the BIOS change the boot order so Ubuntu boots first, do F10 to save then do a save and exit. At this time the computer will boot to Ubuntu, but as soon as I turn the computer off and then restart it will boot to windows. This is not what I want. Is there something wrong with the BIOS? Any fixes?
@danmf?, welcome to the forum. It has been awhile since I used Ubuntu, but I believe that you have to use GRUB to select the drive that you want to use at boot. Whenever I copy the .BIN file into the NEW folder of the USB stick so we can upgrade a laptop using the USB local media, we can only do it once because the .BIN file is being automatically deleted after each use.We have to manually copy the file to the folder after each use and it is a really annoying time-waster. How can we stop this from happening? Is it a bug? I don't see this problem when updating the BIOS on most other laptops (though the 650 G1 might not be the only HP model with this issue). We are updating to 1.39, but we saw the same problem updating older version of the BIOS also.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/BIN-file-is-deleted-from-USB-stick-after-each-BIOS-upgrade/td-p/5849081
I want to update BIOS to latest level v1.6 .
I don't have a selectabay FDD ,only a DVD drive.
Now it would take 3 DVD's to do this i presume .ie having to sequentially update the BIOS to the latest.,
v1.4 then 1.5v and lastly v1.6.
Does the board support booting of a USB Mem stick, or a USB FDD.
Any thoughts on the best way to do this.
Is there a utility that I could download and do it from windows..
My system is an 820E. Tecra series 8200.
I doubt you cannot do this.
Toshiba page provides a trad BIOS update which can be update only using the FDD drive.

So I made a usb stick as I normally do.
Laptop detects it fine and can boot of it, laptop is old style of bios.
I tried to disable fast boot, disable secure boot, but still its bypassed.
Ironically a older usb stick I have with a 32bit windows on boots fine.
I noticed in the asus bios, on the drag drop boot order page the usb stick has [uefi] written next to it and isnt an option to boot it without [uefi] is this related to the problem?
The dvd drive has 2 boot devices one with uefi and one without.
Note I dont want to make a specialised uefi boot media, it has to work on old and uefi bios's.

I am having problems with Netflix and Amazon Prime movies. The problem appears to be an occasional loss of signal resulting in the picture stopping momentarily and sometimes it drops out completely. I have been working with Time Warner (Internet provider) and Netflix and we have looked at and eliminated everything but the Wifi radio signal from the router to my Amazon fire stick. Does anybody have a suggestion on how I can hard wire this instead of the wifi signal to the firestick. There are no connections for hard wiring a cable into the fire stick and I am hoping I can avoid buying a new smart tv. I like the tv I have now.
Not that I'm aware of...its not designed to work that way.
Did TWC, time Warner, assist you with changing wireless channels in the router to see if that would solve your problems?

I recently upgraded my BIOS. The orginal was a dual BIOS from Award. Pheonix's eSupport (for a fee) provided me with an upgrade, which has worked fine. I have had a couple of strange system hangs, though. These have resulted in in my having to restart the system (as in turning it on and off). When I have restarted, the old BIOS is in place. I can easily fix this by re-flashing the BIOS, but does anyone have idea what is going on?
I have, obviously, checked the system for viruses but my checker (Norton 2003 with all the relevant unpdates) can't find anything.

CCA Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Select ?FIRST RUN? Then select model. After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT ?SECOND RUN? What happens or changes when you reload the defaults in the BIOS setup utility?
it restores everything in the bios to it's original settings.<br>
for example: if you put a system password, it will reset that.. or the bios clock/date will be reset.
Or something along those lines. I was having RAM/CPU issues with my computer and everyone kept asking me "did you install all the drivers?"...of course I did! I'm not retarded! So the next thing they suggested is updating my BIOS. Alas, I did that, and now my BIOS won't even start up. If anyone can help me reset the BIOS or install new BIOS it would be greatly appreciated.
NOTE: I've tried putting the BIOS files on a CD/Flash Drive and it doesn't work. The manufacturer won't replace it because they say it's 'not their problem'. This is my last hope.

I recently got my laptop back after having a new HDD fitted. The technician told me to reset my BIOS.Could anyone tell me if this was necessary and what difference it would make to my laptop?
The technician told me to reset my BIOS
To reset what option?
A while ago I tried to put a new HDD in my laptop and got a message saying something a long the lines that the disk wasn't recognised (forgot exact message)
I took the computer to my computer repair shop and they installed the HDD I asked them if it would be easy for me to do it and they said yes it was just a case of resetting the BIOS.
Can anybody please tell me how to reset the BIOS so I can install a new HDD?
I've installed HDD's in windows 7 machines and it was just a case of inserting the disk- I didn't have to mess with the BIOS!
Check your BIOS to see if the hard drive detection is set to "auto." If so, your hard drive should have already been detected. If your hard drive is not recognized by the BIOS, take it back to the repair shop. What makes you think the BIOS is not already recognizing your new HD? Did you try inserting the installation disk? If so, what happened?http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/27839-how-reset-bios-new-hdd.html

So you have one SATA hard drive and an IDE CDROM? Do you have a USB keyboard?
Can anyone tell me how i can rest the Bios on a PC.I have heard it can solve wireless issues. Is there any truth to this?Desperate at this point.
i can't see how 'resetting the BIOS' could solve wireless issues (unless you have an onboard wlan controller that has been disabled in the BIOS)
you should provide detailed info on the real problem which i don't think is related your BIOS settings.
if you really want to 'reset the BIOS', there are 2 options:
1. open the computer case, refer to your main board manual, find the correct jumper switch to clear the CMOS on the mainboard and follow the instructions.
2. enter the BIOS setup utility and load the Default settings.
whats the process of resetting bios?
I'm currently running Windows XP (Service pack 3) and recently there was a Power outage .
The Computer won't reboot and stays on a Blue Screen after the WINDOWS XP by MICROSOFT Message
Default settings can't be activated and sometimes the Curser does'nt move. A normal restart won't work either.
I've taken pictures of the on-screen messages if anyone needs to see them.
Can Images be uploaded to this Website ?.
The Machine is at the repair place now and I was told the 'Bios needed resetting'.
Assuming this happens again, how could the job be done at Home. Please be as detailed as you can.
I hope the operating system has'nt been damaged.
What exactly are 'Bios' anyway and why are they important ?.
How could loss of Electricity cause such a problem ?.
Hoping someone can help.

I accidentally disabled all the internal and external USB ports to my All in One touch screen. As a result I have no touch screen, no keyboard and no mouse control and can't get any. I pulled the CMOS battery and discharged the system but that doesn't seem to have reset it. There are only two jumpers that I can find on the board. I'm hoping one of these is a CMOS reset but I have no idea which one and I don't want to start randomly shorting things. Can anyone tell me how I reset the BIOS via the hardware? Thanks!

I suggest that you go into the BIOS to do the reset: Tap "Esc" key as the computer boots / Choose BIOS setup / Reset default settings and Exit (May be a bit different wording.). This should do what you need. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Bios-Reset/td-p/5797587
Hello! i want to reset BIOS for my advent 7094. How do i do it? pls help
HelloI forgot the password to the bios. How can i reset it ?
Hi, Unfortunately, business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-Khttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Reset-Bios/td-p/5633963
Usually resetting the bios is easy. But I have a dell dimension 4600c and I can't seem to reset the bios. Anyone know how ?
i am having some problems with my laptop and i want to rset my BIOS. But when i enter my BIOS, i cannot find any option to reset the bios. Is there anyway for me to reset it?
I am using Lenovo G405s
I garbage picked this old Optiplex GX 260. I upgraded the Ram to 1 gig, put in an old video card with no trouble at all. then I try to upgrade the Hard drive and it says 'primary hard drive 0 failure'.
I checked the jumpers on the hard drives the primary is set to DS (Primary) and the secondary is set to DS (Secondary). Hooked up the Ribbon Cable accordingly (was not easy, let me tell you). I've even checked the Bios settings and made sure that the order is cdrom, hard drive, floppy disk.
At this point I'm pretty sure the bios needs to be reset, but I can't find the jumper to do that (if its possible at all).
I contacted my Video Card's Technical support. Because my video card wasn't working, nor was it even being noticed by my computer. The tech support said my BIOS Reset itself. That I need to set the 'PRIMARY VGA'. Does Anyone know how to do this?
it is not recognized by the Device Manager, and nothing is showing up on start up?
what kind of software came with the video card?
hi my seagate external hard drive and my and hard working stick external not 8.1 win usb drive USB kingston usb stick suddenly stopped working on my win notebook i have been using them both for months without any problems and they still work perfectly fine on other windows and vista computers My notebooks hardware should be fine because my samsung galaxy s connected to my win notebook USB external hard drive and usb stick win 8.1 not working via usb as media device works i suspect this sudden change of behavior is related to currently released windows updates which got installed some days ago - but i am not sure i also found some people experiencing similar usb storage device related problems since last week and or last windows updates on the web for example here and here more detailed description of problem when i connect the external hard drive to my notebook via usb it gets powered up it starts spinning but shortly after that gets powered off shut down when i connect my usb stick its led does not start to light or flash blinking both are showing up in the device manager folder quot Other devices quot with yellow exclamation mark as quot Desktop quot which is the hd and quot DT Rubber quot the stick the hardwareIDs are USB VID BC amp PID amp REV hd and USB VID amp PID E amp REV stick UPDATE i uninstalled all recent windows updates including the ones dating back to date published now my usb hd and stick are working again so i really think that one of this updates is responsible i'll try to determine which one is it exactly and post it here when i find out thx for your time
i installed all the updates including the most recent ones again except following one:
November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2
this is a 800 MB optional, not important update. in the update description there are some mentions about USB stuff. as my usb hd and stick are now working perfectly fine (with all updates installed except this one) i am going to assume that this update really caused the problem.
i mark this as solved
I am no longer able to get the hard drive to recognize the memory stick from a digital camera. OS is Windows XP. Anyone with a suggestion?
Go to Start,Run then type Regedit.
Locate the following folder :
You should see a list of Vid numbers.Open them one by one,by clicking on the + next to them.Highlight the sub-branch and check the right pane of the window and look for the line which says "Devicedesc".This will help you finding which Vid corresponds to your camera.Once you have found it,delete the Vid folder which corresponds to your camera.Close the Registry Editor and reconnect the camera.
You need Admin rights to do that.
Cheers and good luck.
I have recently found a program that caches all the programs you are using at the time onto a pen drive so that it can be accessed "quicker". I was wondering whether USB2 pen drives would out perform this drive. http://techreport.com/articles.x/4988
Any help with this would be great as I could then buy my self a 4GB pen drive and run stuff from that instead of my old IDE drive.
Thanking in advance,
Could one inherently replace an external USB 3.0 hard disk drive (independently of the capacity) with a (e.g. 256 GB) 3.0 USB Stick? Would that be useful? Are there any drawbacks (speed, fault liability, data security)?

The literature for the Joshua Motherboard is incorrect concerning the P7 1380T BIOS reset. It shows a 6 pin jumper and the p7 1580t has an 8 pin jumper. Which pins actually clear the BIOS? I bought a used HP Elitebook 2570p from an Ebay seller, but this has the BIOS administrator password set. Is there any way to remove the password, or reset the BIOS? I've tried a couple of tools I found on the internet, which didn't work (didn't brick anything either) and the vendor says they don't have the password. They'll take it back, but I'd like to get it to work if I can. I have the SKU, serial an UUID. Thanks

Hi, Seems someone who left the lab had fun and set the BIOS password on one of our A740 and, of course, have no idea what it is at this point. Tried some tools I found online but they did not work. Is there a master password for this or will I need to replace the motherboard? RespectfullyPetterhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-A-B-C-N-S-Flex-Horizon/Reset-BIOS-A740/td-p/3371102
To remove the BIOS passwords you need to short the 2 contacts marked RTC RESET. Remove the memory cover. Look for the 2 contacts between wireless card and memory. Remove main battery and AC. Use a small flathead screwdriver to short the 2 contacts. Passwords are gone. If STRINGENT SECURITY is enabled this will NOT work. Let us know if it works for you. REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.
Used an x-acto knife because the blade is thinner than on a screwdriver. When attempted to short with the screwdriver, the short did not happen because the spacing is extremely small. In order to reset a bios password on laptops you will need to call Dell Support. They will verify ownership of the computer and then provide information for resetting the password. The number to call is listed below.

Sony Vaio running Vista Home Premium. Was having some issues so decided to restore complete system from recovery discs. Got a licensing error the MS couldn't fix and suggested to restore system again. Did and it booted up fine, then shut down with "no operating system found" error. Went into bios and no hard drive. Can't even try another system restore from recovery disc because I get an error of insufficient room on the c drive.

I put a password on my bios page and can't remeber what it was. (was kinda drunk at the time) I have W3506 2.5Gig celron radeon200expres motherboard. Does anyone know how I can reset the password so I can reset to factory default? EMACHINES wants $100 to answer this question, WTF?, Oh forgot OS is XP sp3.
OS doesn't matter, since BIOS is actually running underneath it. I can't help you past that, though.
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, the hard drive crashed on it and I bought a new one and was going to install a new operating system on it. When I inserted the Windows 7 disk I find out it won't boot from the cd drive. I go into bios to change the setting and there's a system admin password that I didn't know about or don't remember that's keeping me from changing any bios settings. I've researched and tried everything, is there anything I can do to bypass this password so I can boot from the cd drive?
Nope. May want to re-read the rules page at https://forums.techguy.org/help/rules/
Bypassing Passwords (read more)
Please do not ask for assistance with (or ways to bypass) a forgotten or unknown password, personal identification number (PIN) or any other type of access code that may be required on a computer, mobile device or web site. Best to try the Safe Mode to get into Windows and track this problem. Tap the Function 8 key when you start the machine and if you see "Disable automatic restart on system failure", highlight that one and hit Enter. If that isn't there, try Safe Mode with Networking.

Those are not jumpers If you want to reset BIOS settings, you could just unplug power(cord off the PSU), discharge power by pressing the power button for 10 secs, then take the CMOS battery off, and wait for half an hour or so. Put those wires back their place. Refer to motherboard manual...
