I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). Best to bookmark this page which lists all the downloads for your z240 Windows 10 64bit tower system so check it out periodically.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Updating-Firmware-for-Z240/td-p/5575077
I bought a dell xps 13 and got it one week ago. Tonight i got a message that dell updates had to be installed.
The computer restarted and started a EC BIOS update. After a short while it froze while updating the firmware.
It's been frozen for about 2 hours. I don't seem to be able to do anything. Please help
can anyone tell me how to update the firmware for my
GD-5000 hitachi dvd rom?
i have downloaded latest version but not sure how to do it
can someone explain in novices terms please
i have downloaded the following text but dont understand the
part between the *'s
When you have downloaded the file, unzip it and save the resulting .exe file to the C:\ directory. Create a DOS boot disk, as detailed above, and boot into DOS mode. Change to the C:\ directory, then type:
*You will be asked to specify the position of your drive on the IDE bus, then the file will run and your f/w will be updated*
Hi, I recently brought a DVD writer and want to update its firmware.
It's my first time updating firmware of any of my drives and read it can actually permanently damage my drive so just want to confirm if this is the correct way to do it.
I went to this site:
Downloaded and ran the [DeviceInfo.exe]:
Device Type: DVD/CD-Rom
Vendor ID: PIONEER
Product ID: DVD-RW DVR-108
Product Rev: 1.04
So now do I just download [DVR108_FW118EU.exe] and run it?
I am having a problem with downloading my linksys router firmware update.
The file download is downloaded to File Name BEFSR41v3_3_V.05.00 Code.bin
It download ok but it displays VLC Player icon and want to open in VLC Player format and will not open can't figure what program to open with
You don't actually open the file. You browse to it from within the router's interface. See the generic Linksys upgrade instructions here: upgrade_instructions_routers,0.pdfhttp://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/112766-router-firmware-updating.html

I just bought a game (C&C3 to be exact) but after I start installing it get's a error at the end of the installer about some file, And on from some asking around I found that the so called fix to the error was to try updating your DVD drive Firmware. the thing is, I have no clue how to find out what king of DVD drive I have and how to update it, and unless I fix the error I more or less wasted 49.99$+Tax for a worthless DVD, And I can't stand wasting that much money due to a error
So any help would be helpful
Today I've just been told by CD-R manufacturer "Verbatim" customer service that I need to "update my firmware". I've never heard of this activity before. My computer is about 6+ yrs old, 30'' high, 18" deep & 9" wide, with Windows XP.
I have a Sony Compact Disc+ Ultra Speed ReWritable 52x/32x/52x unit and underneath a DVD Rom.
Can I update my "firmware" from Sony, or anywhere else you can suggest?
That's not unusual.
If there's a firmware update Sony or your computer manufacturer should have it.
I recently purchased a spindle of dvd+r discs that are 16X....my dvd recorder's max is 4X. A noticed enclosed with the discs stated that i may need to update the firmware in the recorder to be sure that the discs will be operational in my recorder. I have been unable to find out how to do this update if needed. can someone please help? I have an emachines T3096. my recorder is dvd+/-rw, 4X max, write dvd+/-r. thanks for any replys!
You will have to find out the true manufacturer and type of your DVD burner. The name you see in Device Manager may give you a clue.
Then just go to the manufacturer's website and download the firmware update for your burner (make sure it is exactly for your model). The update will most likely be a Windows program you can simply run and press some confirmation buttons.
I installed the drivers for the USB mouse Razer Copperhead but the Synapse controller doesn't pick it up and it says firmware: n/a i reinstalled the firmware like...3 times but no joy...it says install successful but i remove and plug back in, and restart the synapse but it keeps saying firmware n/a. Please help im at the end of my rope lol.
What is a synapse? :/
Hi one and all I am trying to update the firmware on my Netgear DG G wireless ADSL Modem Router and having some problems The router was originally supplied by Virgin when I was using them as an ISP several years ago which may well be a contributing factor in the problem The firmware is well out of date so I thought I would update it to take advantage of any improvements however it fails to update everytime I try I have tried the reset utility provided by Netgear can t remember exactly what it was called now as I am at work and that wouldn t even see the router when I tried to run it I am trying to do it via my Toshiba Satellite Pro A laptop which has a wired connection to the router all other machines in the house are wireless It can acess the internet fine access the router setup information and change it all OK just won t update the firmware Anyone have any thoughts on how to do some form of hard reset with the latest firmware version Thanks nbsp
Your DG834G may really be a Virgin specific Netgear model "dg834gsp" and can not be updated with standard DG834G firmware.
For some reason I can't run the (Pioneer DVD) executable firmare update in Vista. When I invoke the file, I see for an instant a DOS screen , then nothing, no screen with further questions, and the firmware is not updated. Any ideas?
1) The instruction made no mention of running it from DOS.
2) I did try running it in "administrator" mode.
Ive already gone through malware removal on another thread and he recommended i make a post here to get the problems he couldnt solve taken care of, hopefully. For one, some of my shortcuts on my desktop wont load when i click on them. Even some programs in the start menu wont load up. For example, notepad wont load up when i click on it but if a file needs to use it it opens or if i use run to open it. Internet explorer will load up and then shut off. My router is trying to update its firmware but when i try to do it it'll just pop up and say it was cancelled when i know for a fact it wasnt. I dont have an xp disk.
Go to Start/Run and type control userpasswords and press enter. Here create a new user account with admin rights. Log out of your user profile and login as the new user. Do you still have these issues?
If so, you are missing some files from your OS, to proceed to fix this, you need to have an XP CD. You can borrow one, or you can get one on Ebay or Craigslist.
Then go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing files from the CD.
Okay, I've been having a lot of problems with my connection, and I was thinking maybe it could have something to do with the fact that I've never updated my modem's firmware. I'm not sure exactly how to do this, though, so if anyone could walk me through it, I'd really appreciate it. As it says it the subject line, I have a Westell 6100, and I'm not sure if this would be relevant, but my ISP is Verizon. Thanks.
Just updated to the CC49 firmware, think I failed a chkdsk (was out of the house at the time) and have had a couple of random blue screen errors which I believe are being caused by the hard drive. I'm running Seatools test currently, but if anyone would be kind enough to check out my DMP files, perhaps there is something else to blame?

Memory corruption Probably from a driver please run these two tests.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.
Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.
Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).
In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .
Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.
Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?
Hi Team, We are trying to install win7 on Z240 but due to some issue the SSD does not gets detected we have also tried installing Win7 via CD/USB but still no luck can someone help me regarding this issue.

Hi, I'm wanting to install 2 x 3.5" HDDs in my new Z240 SFF Workstation. There is a bay that already came with an insert and one of the new drives slots into that just fine. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056
I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). Thanks for any hints Tomhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z240-add-SATA-card-no-working/td-p/5725275
Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989
When I download graphics card driver 15.20.1045 (sp73511.exe) from the HP site and install this, the properties display 15.200.1045.So I'm now not sure if the corect driver is installed, because I'm still getting graphics card errors. I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?

Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. This is verfied once one of the monitor is turned off, the same keypress pattern lights up on the keyboardSetup: z240 with 2x23" monitor connected to Display-ports, HP smartcard keyboard and mouse connected to rear USB. BIOS version 1.11 (SP74759)Has anyone experianced similar issue or anyone has a fix for this?
Same here.New Z240 workstation with Xeon E3-1245 v5 and two monitors HP Z24n, both attached on the motherboard's DisplayPorts.OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Sp1 with latest patches and drivers (including monitors' one), BIOS (01.27 Rev.A) I found two workarounds: power down and restart, or briefly attach another DVI monitor. I will try your trick to power off a monitor. P.S. Initially I had the same problem using two Samsung DVI monitors and HP DisplayPort->DVI adapters. I thought it was a problem with the signal conversion and changed monitors. Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284

Hello. I am currently working on getting a fresh installation of Windows 7 on our HP Z240's in order to create our standard business image. I was able to install Windows 7 Enterprise but am having one issue. Whenever the workstation goes into sleep mode it will do a hard shutdown. I've installed the latest drivers found here for the chipset, graphics, NIC and sound. The issue still occurs. I've done the same on three different workstations and have experienced the same issue between all three. The OEM Windows 7 installation has no issues on the same exact workstation. When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. Recently, I updated my HP laptop from windows 8 to windows 8.1. I got critical message from HP Support Assistant asking to update the drivers. I went to HP website, and see all the drivers specified for my laptop. I didnt get which one I have to install. I dont want to install unnecessary things that could harm the functionality of my laptop. Anyway, I opened the device manager in my laptop and checked the update for every driver. But, this message still appears to me. Any tips that can help me? Do you know the specified drivers I have to install? Or, Do you know a specific source I can use to know the needed drivers?
There's nothing "unnecessary" about the drivers, every piece of HW needs one.http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/44850-updating-win8-win-8-1-needs-updating-drivers.html

When using C, does a hexadecimal Number refer to the memory address (AKA a register or part of the the memory or a port), or does it simply refer to the number itself?
ulData = ulMemPos + 0x20;
does this mean add the hexadecimal value of 20-- or to add twenty memory addressing to it?
just a number
Can anyone tell me what is firmware?
Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.
Better than I can explain it.

I am looking for Firmware for DI-614+ wireless router. When I use WEP encryption, no wireless client (laptop) can connect. I have also tried the latest firmware I can get from D-Link. I hoping to use this with my TFCko box or as my access point for my laptop.
If I cannot use it as wireless access point. Is there a firmware hack to make it a wireless client or a repeater?
Thanks for any ideas

I have a Intel 510 ssd and I looking to add another ssd. Can you have both if they have different firmware. I'm looking at several including Intel 320.
Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?
I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/295018-2-ssds-2-different-firmware.html
I saw the phrase firmware tossed about on a message. What exactly is it?
Firmware is half software, half hardware. Usually it is software embedded permanently into a piece of hardware. Such as the software that runs a digital camera, or drives a USB networking cable.
Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.
The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.
How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.
If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

I have the Netgear MR814 (v1) router, and it's not working like it used to. The IP Reservation interface has become messed up, so that now I can't use it... the port forwarding is messed up, too. Also, it won't allow my xbox to log on to xbox live, like it used to, unless I fiddle with the settings every time I use it.
I've got the latest firmware installed. I just went and checked to make sure.
My question is: Will reinstalling the firmware do anything? Also, are there any 3rd party firmwares out there for this router?
My only suggesting would be to grab the manual for it and find out how to reset it completely. If nothing has changed then Firmware upgrades will not likely do anything.

Hey, recently Ive had trouble burning DVDs using Samsung TS-H552U, so after reading around I went to update my firmware using their automatic flash download. I downloaded the latest version, which lifted me from US03 to US07. It installs and asks me to restart. I restart, and when it boots back up, my DVD drive is no longer recognized. I have no idea what to do. For firmware to update using their program, it needs to find the drive, and since it isnt showing up, I cant do that. Any ideas?

I have Aspire E 14. Last night, I saw I have 1 critical update for firmware v1.17. When I clicked the update button it just says "updating" It just goes on and is not stopping. I closed the portal and a window appears saying reflashing. I saw it did reflash up to 100%, but why won't the critical update notification disappear on Acer Care Center portal? I also checked update history and the firmware is not yet included. I tried it again the next morning, clicked the update button, but still, it just says updating and can go on until you close the portal. Any solution? Did my Aspire really did reflash? It seemed nothing has changed. Thanks in advance!http://community.acer.com/t5/Aspire-Desktops/Update-on-firmware-v1-17/td-p/443847/jump-to/first-unread-message

A friend of mine with a laptop installed Firmware on her DVD-ROM drive, and tried to copy something, and now her whole computer is out of whack. It has trouble loading up, and it doesn't recognize her DVD-ROM drive. I tried doing an upgrade install, but that didn't help-the only other thing I can think of is to do a fresh install of Windows, but even that might not work. Otherwise, we'd have to send in the computer and have them remove the drive and install a new one (it's not removable, it's fixed). It's a Gateway computer running XP PRO
Any ideas on what to do? thanks

Does anyone know where I can download (for free of course) a copy of Linksys Firmware version 1.50.8 for the Linksys router model WRT54GS v5?
Since a newer version of the firmware for the router is out, the Linksys website does not seem to have version 1.50.8 and I need that version for some of my other software.
Thanks in advance guys.

Is there such a thing as a firmware update for a processor?
I want to say yes, but no at the same time. Wouldn't it be hard because it'd have to use the processor in order to figure out what to do with the firmware!
:S perhaps I'm thinking too deeply into it though.
