Spectre x360 - Samsung HDMI

Q: Spectre x360 - Samsung HDMI

Hi Hoping someone can assist, I have a spectre x360 connected to a Samsung Smart TV via HDMI. Screen is recognised OK as the laptop screen flickers when plgging in, problem is that the TV screen suddenly goes blank (black) for no apparent reason then reappears, again for no obvious reason. Tried various different cables and different HDMI ports on TV and all behave the same, this doesn't occur at all when using other laptops connected to the TV using same cables. Doesn;t appear to be cable led either as wiggling cable and therefore port doesn't seem to affect either the black out or reappearance ? Help !

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This sort of problem is tough to troubleshoot over the internet. It could be quite a few things that could cause the symptoms that you're experiencing. With that said, I'd probably start with updating the discrete GPU drivers. Since you did switch from integrated to discrete, this could be the main cause for the graphic glitches which is probably crashing the system.

Moving forward, I think you should download something like CPU-Z to monitor the CPU load and temperatures during the crashes. It could be that your CPU is overheating and could use some attention.

I am looking into upgrading one of our conference rooms at work with something that can provide output to at least 2 HDTV and 1 projector, with the future of a 3rd hdtv.

I been out the loop for awhile with video cards, and wanted to know if anybody knows of a way this can be done with a possible video card that has 4 hdmi outputs? They will be (2) 55 inch hdtvs and a projector which should output its own resolution

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

A:Any video cards with 4 HDMI outputs?

No video cards I know of have 4 HDMI outputs, but you can find plenty of cards that have that many if you combine DVI + Displayport. You could always use DP converters to HDMI got get the appropriate number of connections, but remember that after 2 non DP devices you'll need to start using Active Converters if you plan to keep the signal digital.

A:Samsung addresses slow 840 EVO SSD performance with another patch

I have bought several 840 drives myself, and our newest machines at work have 120GB 840 Evos. After installing Magician 4.6, I was presented with the option to upgrade to the EXT0DB6Q firmware. I then disabled rapid mode, and ran the benchmark testing(with rapid mode enabled, you're basically measuring your RAM). I saw about a 200 MB/s increase compared to my lowest score for Sequential Write, and more modest gains elsewhere. Note that with Magician 4.6, Standard performance optimization is not supported on Windows 8 or higher. However, a new "advanced" option is available, that performs a complete rewrite, refreshing data and alleviating access delays. It took about 10 minutes to complete on my system with about 60 GB used. I'll be doing more testing, and anxiously awaiting a Mac compatible ISO, as Magician is not available for OS X.

A:Hdmi inputs where are they

On my Cable box I have only 1 hdmi out, 1 S Video out and 1 RCA Composite out.
The HDMI out goes to my HDTV and the picture is great.Click to expand...

that's correct.

Take for example, a DVR is inline with the service provide which allows the Recording. Once recorded, it's nice to get the media displayed on an HDTV - - hence HDMI-out.

I have VHS, DVD and daisy-chain them --> HDTV so that the service is feed thru the chain.

(cable) -- vhs -- dvd -- hdtv
| |

If the VHS is off, the lower path is selected ON THE TV
otherwise, the TV is selected to AV inputs.

The other way to see the layout is

TV inputs: (cable) ------ hdtv select TV:cable input
AV inputs: av-devices --- hdtv select TV:av inputs
To record, there needs to be a connection from (cable)-->av unit

yes, S-Video stinks, use the RCA Composite out from the cable->av

The Samsung rv510 laptop I have has a rubber plug blocking the HDMI port.
I assume it's because they use the "Case/Shell" for multiple models and this one does not come with it.
My questions:.... Are these built into the mobo or is there a Video card I could replace inside?
I'm assuming it's onboard in which case I will need to get a VGA+3.5mm audio to HDMI adapter in order to make this work?
Relevancy 27.09%

My newest task is centered around an HP Pavilion 15-p033ca laptop with a broken screen. Replacing the screen is actually super simple but my issue lies elsewhere.

Normally I would hook the laptop up to a monitor via VGA cable. This newer laptop only has an HDMI hook-up, so I hooked it up to my TV with that cable. The HP logo upon start up is semi-visible as the picture is distorted. So, before I spend money and order the screen my question is...

Does an HDMI relay the Broken screens picture to the TV and that's why is messed up? or should the TV picture still be clear? Like when a broken screen laptop is hooked to an external monitor with a VGA and the external monitor works fine.

I'm worried there may be an internal GPU or Mobo issue aside from the screen being broke.... Finally is there a better way I can test this instead?

Thanks for any info or Ideas in advance!

Okay so I've read the other threads and figure that...well...I figured nothing.

Audio sounds great. It's from my gigabyte motherboard, not from an expansion card. I have a jumper cable running from my mobo to my video card for the audio signal. When there is no audio playing on my computer, there is a sort of static buzz that has what seems like a specific rate to it... "blip blip____blip blip___blip blip"..... sort of like that

All inputs/recording settings have been disabled.

The only fix I have is to basically open an app (winamp) and have it play audio at 0% volume. It's kind of stupid and would prefer to not have to do this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Buzzing when no sounds play over HDMI connection

I have a jumper cable running from my mobo to my video card for the audio signal.Click to expand...

That's the norm for HDMI. HUMMMMMM or other noise when no sound is being produced intentionally is usually a grounding or cable shielding problem.

To be honest, my laptop HDMI is iffy; by that I mean, a connection to the HDTV at home and at one auditorium is just fine, but at another location, I get hum all the time both with and without sound originating from the laptop - - using the same hdmi cable.

The laptop has a plastic case and of course can not be shielded and therefore subject to 'environmental' interference'

In normal audio circuits, a/c hum indicates poor or no shielding (ie grounding) OR
the leads on the audio cable are reverse - - the ground on the cable is wired (by mistake) to the audio hot lead (ie the input).

On your PC, make sure you have a grounded A/C power cord and the wall plate has an active ground connection.

what the heck is MHL? Think of it as a technology that turns a common MicroUSB cable into an HDMI cable, but with a few special features. MHL stands for Mobile High-definition Link, and it's the brainchild of a group of companies?including Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba?that wanted a specification that could be used to connect smart phones, tablets, and other devices to an HDTV.

A:Samsung external monitor debacle

edit: okay, now I read it properly.

Your Monitor may not be scaling the resolution to match it's maximum output. Try setting the monitor to be the only active display (as in output to external monitor only) and adjusting the resolution in windows to match the maximum resolution your monitor will allow. If that works, you at least have a starting point.

Also, are they referring to the Samsung AA-AH1NAMB/US Micro HDMI to VGA Adapter??? I'd suggest trying to find an e-tailer that will ship to your location, rather than dealing with Samsung directly anymore, since it REALLY seems to be costing you unnecessary time and money.

Usually when you install a graphics card, it should disable the on-board graphics. There should be a way to activate usage of it from your BIOS, but I would highly recommend just forgetting about it and use your Nvidia Graphics Card. Dedicated Graphics Cards will (most of the time) be better than on-board graphics.

I am a beginner of hardware. I find two series of SSD to compare, 840 EVO and M500, because the specifications and the prices of them are approximate.

Both of them use SATA 3, so you need to compare with the read speed and the write speed, if you prefer faster one. The sequential read speed of 840 is 540MB/s, and the sequential write speed is 410MB/s. M500 is slower, but the performance of M500 is great as well, its Shock-resistant design makes it more durable than 840. The most important thing of SSD is the controller, 840 uses 3-core Samsung MDX controller, M500 uses Marvell?s latest controller, maybe the second one is better.

This is my poor review, how to compare them with more details, give me your advice.

I recently purchased an HDMI splitter and connected it to the output of my GFX card(GTX 570) so I could change from my primary monitor to my HD TV simply by pressing a button rather than having to manually swap out the cable every time I wish to play something from my PC on the big screen. Thing is it don't seem to work, when plugged in all I get is a black screen on both the monitor and TV and the LED on the splitter flashes red. Can any one help please?

A:HDMI Problem

In my experience, the adapters never really work. I had a splitter, and that caused a few problems with syncing and stuff.

Try using your PC monitor without the adapter, then while it is all running, introduce the adapter and see if that works?

A:Sapphire 5770 - VGA vs HDMI

Sortta, I had a similar issue where the image quality just did not live up to what HDMI was, now bear in mind for me I have 6990s so things might be slightly different, but you should have the same control panel look/configs.

Now I first set the monitor to overscan in catalyst control center which is under My Digital Flat Panels, and then scaling options which will remove the border.

Next is the other part I had to do, in the same area under My Digital Flat Panels, go to HDTV support, from there, you should see some lists that you can scroll through, in the top list look for the NTSC (Well you need to use your area, NTSC is in America) and click the one for your display (Which if im guessing correctly, should be a check mark in the Box for 1080p60).

Hope that helps, if it doesn't let me know!

I need to know if the HDMI motherboard in a 60" Samsung Plasma TV can be used in a Sony Bravia 52" TV. The motherboard in my Sony died and I have access to one in a Samsung Plasma that's screen cracked.

A:Is a 60" Samsung Plasma HDMI motherboard compatible with a 52" Sony Bravia HDMI motherboard.

No, it would not be, in the past I had to repair a tv for a friend that had his board shorted that was an LCD Sony Bravia 52 Inch and its board was very specific as with all Sony Products. The Boards on the TV's are the hearts and the companies that built them don't allow for parts to be interchanged easily. Your best bet is ebay and finding the part number to find a board, that's how I got the one I used to fix it.

What Manufacturer and Model is the HDD? Also, on Windows 7, I believe the max partition size a computer can recognize is 1TB, so a suggestions is using Disk Management, seperate it into separate partitions of 750 gb or so, then just link them in a RAID configuration. This will allow Windows 7 to recognize it as a single drive, but will also allowed you to use the full 3TB of space.

I have absolutely no idea about it...can anyone please tell me what it is (in brief) and also will it improve my graphic visuals in my monitor??

A:What is an HDMI cable and do I need one?

HDMI stands for high definition media interface, basically it's a 2 in one cable that carries the display signal as well as a sound signal. If you use a HDMI cable to connect your laptop to your tv for example, you'll be able to use the TV as another monitor, and you'll also be able to play music through your tv speakers.
With computer monitors, unless they have built in speakers that you plan to use, there's no real advantage of using a HDMI cable to connect from your computer, a standard DVI or VGA connection is just as good (Though go with DVI (White) over VGA (Blue) if possible there)

In my nVidia graphics settings (in the control panel) i had to change the aspect ratio. For some reason it was set to something like 4:3, after changing the aspect ratio to 16:9 I was allowed the 1080 x 1920 reslotion.

Check in your ATI settings (Catalyst Control Center) for the settings to either change the aspect ratio, play around with the settings a bit and see what happens.

Since it is unlikely that your notebook/laptop has a floppy drive you will have difficulty installing XP on a SATA drive because of the lack of native SATA drivers supplied with the XP installation disk. No supplied drivers, no recognition of the SATA hard drive. During early Setup you are given the opportunity to hit the F6 key to install third party drivers (I.e. SATA/RAID drivers) but XP only recognizes a floppy drive for this process. These SATA drivers would have to come from the laptop's driver support page at their website.

An alternative is to make a slipstream disk which combines your regular XP CD with the appropriate SATA/RAID drivers to allow recognition of your SATA hard drive by Windows Setup. Perform an internet search for the procedure to make such a disk.

Another alternative is to enter the BIOS and set the controller mode to IDE instead of SATA, that is if your laptop BIOS has that option. Many or most modern desktops do but I don't know about laptops. When set to IDE mode, XP doesn't need SATA drivers to continue the installation.

Looked on my computer and it shows now Blu-ray Drive under my HDD

Look in my device manager and nothing shows up there as well.

Downloaded the drivers from here only to be told there is no drive detected.

I checked all my connections tried them in different ports on the mobo. I tried different cables still nothing. There is power to the drive because I can open and close it and I hear it reading the disc it just wont send the info to my mobo.

Can somebody compare and contrast the significance between an HDMI cable and a DVI input? I've been thinking for so long that an HDMI input display has an advantage for LCD monitors than the DVI ones from a video card.

What could be the simplest way to determine that an HDMI cable indeed has little to offer than a DVI display?

I'm currently using DVI by default, but I heard recommendations from different forums that I switch to HDMI input. And it gets a little confusing. Thanks

Alright, so I'm currently tied between the Samsung 830 512 GB and the Crucial M4 512 GB SSD's, and after lots of review reading and internet research I came to the conclusion that the 830 is overall the better drive. The Crucial M4 however is available for me for ~520$ while the 830 goes for ~650$

Now if it was only for the speed difference I'd certainly go with the M4 but seeing as it is a rather old model and the 830 is considered to be the more reliable of the two I just can't make up my mind if it's really worth the price difference. Any help?

A:Samsung 830 vs Crucial M4 at this price difference?

I should also tell you specifically that I also want to look at how the drive would stand in say 4 years because that's about the minimum I want to get out of it. That's the main reason that puts me off the older and supposedly a little less reliable Crucial M4, but I just can't decide if 130$ is really what the difference is worth...

If you've already got the mounting kit, SATA cables etc. from your current SSD then the basic version of the 830 will be fine.

I can't see a difference in picture quality, and after some searching, I see they're basically the same, but I don't have many details. I'm wondering if and what would be the differences?
I run dual monitors and my normal setup is one DVI (25.5" monitor, which I run 1280x720) and one VGA (17" - 800x600)....Kinda outdated, I know, but it's what I'm used to. Everything's so tiny in 1920x1200...but is picture quality better? I guess I can't tell.
I just switched everything around and am running my 17" DVI in 800x600 and my 25.5 HDMI in 1920x1200. Can't tell any difference in either monitor. Watched a couple HD videos and played around with some websites, games, etc that I usually use.
Probably going back to what I'm used to..the blue and white...and my usual resolution.
Thanks for any help!

The only difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI carries audio, DVI does not. You will not notice a difference in picture quality.

However you should always keep the monitors at their native resolution (I'm guessing your 25.5in is 1920x1200). If the text is too small then just increase the font size in the Control Panel. Monitors generally look terrible at non-native resolutions.

Sorry if this is a long question A about DVI HDMI output and winded question When I use DVI output my monitor allows me to choose from certain presets like quot game quot or quot movie quot that effect brightness etc There is a quot Dynamic contrast quot preset which gives by far the best colours however it is no good for even mildly dark scenes However if I use HDMI output I cannot choose them as the colours seem much better and choosing the preset is not necessary it looks as good as DVI using quot dynamic contrast quot and works in dark scenes perfectly When using DVI I am on my PC as it has no HDMI output When using HDMI output I am using the PS which has no DVI A question about DVI and HDMI output output In both cases I am using the same monitor Now to my question if I buy a DVI to HDMI cable will the output of my PC be the same as the output of my PS ie perfect colours brightness from using HDMI Thanks nbsp

A:A question about DVI and HDMI output

The answer is probably. Your monitor probably isn't smart enough to be able to distinguish between a DVI to HDMI converter cable and a regular HDMI cable. But you simply will not know for sure until you try. For some reason your TV manufacturer decided that you would not be allowed to fine tune the picture while using DVI or maybe the DVI connector simply bypasses the "fine tuning" circuits.

I have a both a DVI and an HDMI output on my video card, but my monitor (32" JVC TV) only has HDMI inputs and I'm currently using a DVI to HDMI cable to run the video to the monitor. The TV allows me to make any adjustments using either a HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI cable, but the video is brighter when using an HDMI cable.

What type of cable are you using to connect the PC to the TV?

Hi Peeps,
I just got my box of googies to start a new build but i am trying to get a HDMI cable for the GT430.

In the description for the card it says its a type 'C' but all i can see on the cable side of things are types like 1.3b or V1.4 ?

So i have selected this cable...

Xenta Gold Plated V1.4 HDMI

Would it be ok to use with this graphics card ?

Gigabyte GT430

Thanks for any info offered

A:Gigabyte GT 430 HDMI version?

Yeah, if can plug in the standard TV type HDMI cable to your video card, you're golden.

The "1.3 or 1.4" issue, (or perhaps hype), pertains to data throughput, and not the physical connection configuration, so even type 1.3 will suffice for 1080p.

The 2 Gigabyte boards I have with IGP, take the standard HDMI cable, same as you would use to hook up a Blu-Ray or DVD player to your TV.

How do I unlock my at&t windows mobile 6.1 without calling at&t support?

A:Unlock Samsung AT&T Windows mobile?

I noticed that no one has responded to this post, and one good reason is that, in most cases, unlocking a phone is against the carrier's Terms of Service, or ToS, and many members would rather not give the know how to break the rules, so to speak.

Hey all, I have recently bought this monitor locally. However, after turning off the eco-saving and other features, the monitor still changes it brightness for some reason. I'm using an Analog cable with a DVI-convertor on the other end. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and my computer specs are as follow:

Intel i7-950
Sapphire ATI 6870
2x 1TB WD Caviar Black
750W PSU

Thanks for any help!

A:Samsung S24A350H problem

My guess is that your monitor has some kind of "Store Demo" setting. Both my LG monitor and my Samsung TV has this, it took me some time to find out. It changes your settings automatically to predefined settings that look good when showing the monitor in a store.
Look for settings like "Mode setting", "Quick start" or "Plug and play", and change to home use.

Edit: Find these settings on your monitors menu, not in Windows

Bought a gtx 460 for some reason. And for some other reason HDMI is shown as no input. I read somewhere to get audio through hdmi u have to enable it throguh bios have to enable visual hdmi there as well?

Also I wanted to know a good program that lets me see how my video card is performing and if its being bottleknecked?

A:Can't get Mini HDMI input to work from graphics card

If you want to check if your video card is being bottlenecked, just open up resource manager and play any game you like.

Check how much strain is being put on the cpu and compare it to the gpu usage.

GPU-Z is my personal favorite gpu monitoring program. Get it from TechPowerUp.

If you have a core 2 duo running under 3.5 ghz it'll most likely be a bottleneck in modern games.

However, with a quad core with a clock rate of at least 2.5 or so then you should be fine.

Also, it really depends on the game.

Older games less cores doesn't really matter as much as the gpu. Newer games can become really demanding on both the cpu and gpu.

I've just been browsing on the internet through my wireless router.
Now its not working, its saying i'm connected to the router but not letting me go online.

I did the cmd winsock thing and that made no difference. I then connected through the cable and it was working fine, now i've unplugged from the router and its loading reallllllly slow/un usable.

Whats happened? it was saying it couldnt connect to dns server, but then it started working... but now its not :/

A:Samsung Vista laptop wireless now playing up

This sounds like either a fault with the routers wireless transmission or your wireless card in the PC.

Start by resetting the router, there should be a reset button somewhere on it, usually you will need a thin wire to push into the whole and hold it until the router responds. This will reset it to default so any security settings will need to be reset.

If there is no change take a look in Device Manager for your wireless card under Network Adapters, right click on the device and select properties, check to see if it reports any problems. If no problems are reported try uninstalling the device and then reboot so that windows will reload the drivers.

Let us know how you get on.

Try the monitor on another computer, even a laptop and see if it operates normally. If it does, the problem is with the computer. Post back...

I don't know if that still works, It's been years since I have tried it. If captaincranky finds this thread, He probably knows the best remedy or things to try....he's a bit of a monitor expert.

A:PCI video card with HDMI

Very strange behavior. What is the cable connected to on the PC - what card and is it a full sized HDMI port? What TV and what kind of connector on the TV? Are you using any adapters? Do you have the latest driver for your video card? Can you try another HDMI cable to rule out cable issues?

I'm going to buy a laptop sometime in the next month or two and have some questions;

I was very interested in the Samsung QX410 but stores here in Canada no longer carry it. Should I wait for Samsung next 14" laptop (size i want) as they stated that 2011 will see a large surge in their laptops (and they plan to fight apple on top dog);

Should i just spend the grand on the sony VPCS131FDS which has the same specs as the samsung but is 13.3" instead?

A:How can I install new Samsung multifunction printer onto wireless network?

To set up the printer for wireless use you need to assign it an IP address which it will transmit for the PC's in the network to log on to. If the printer does not have its own screen it will need to be connected by cable to a PC in order to do this.

If the setup disc will not run get a replacement as you need to install the printer drivers in all your PC's.

If you cannot replace the disc you will have to go the the Samsung site and download the drivers from there that are for your OS's.

As you now have the printer running off one PC you will need to install the printer drivers on the other PC's and then activate printer sharing. If I new what OS you are using on all the PC's I could give more details.

I'm sure the question in the title is very noob, but I just assumed that full HD monitors would connect to the graphics card via a HDMI cable?

Thanks in advance!

A:Why do monitors that are full HD not have an HDMI port on them?

Not really necessary, DVI carries the same video signal as HDMI ... just no audio. You can use a DVI to HDMI cable for your connection.

So yesterday I was on my computer and my monitor started displaying a "check signal cable" message on my screen. First thing I thought was oh snap my video card took a crap on me. So I plugged the monitor into the built in vga port. Still same thing. Then I thought, I would try plugging the monitor into my laptop. So I plugged it into my laptop. The laptop registered it was there so I set up duel screens. The laptop knew that the monitor was there, you could scroll of the laptop screen to the desktop screen, but still the monitor reads check signal cables. I then decided that my VGA cable must be faulty, so i replaced that. Still same error. I really don't want to get a new monitor, I have fallen in love with this one.

Any Ideas?

Hi to all (and happy new year!)

I want to buy a 2.5" external drive, but as you can imagine i don't know which one.
I have already opened a thread like this in tom's hardware:

[ I can't post the link due to rules, please google username gouzou in tomshardware to find the thread ]

but i wanted more like a debate on this matter.

The competitors are:
1) WD my passport Elite 5400rpm, 750gb
2) Seagate Goflex Pro 7200rpm, 500gb
3) Samsung S2 HX-MTA64DA, 7200rpm(i think..), 640gb

WD and Seagate come in same price, Samsung $20 more.
Please consider rpms, density of data, reliability and only usb3.0 or esata for your verdict.

I mainly want the drive to have high write rate.

A:Western Digital vs Seagate vs Samsung External 2.5"

Well for the start all those have preloaded software on them, if you like them or no thats up to you (for backing up your media).

the Seagate Goflex Pr haves some nice features, but only if you have a device to use it, ill say its between the WD and the Samsung, obviusly the Samsung will be faster but the WD haves 90Gigs more, its up to you if you want more speed or those 90Gigs more.

I have recently hooked up two Samsung Syncmaster s to my HP Compaq laptop at work waiting on an email for the specific model for the Compaq and Nvidia Quadro video card Unfortunately the second monitor says quot Check Signal Cable quot and will not display anything Here s how I have it set up The first monitor is hooked up to the laptop on the VGA port and works fine I have used extended display with my laptop screen and Syncmaster with no trouble I hooked up the second monitor to the HDMI port in my laptop with a DVI-HDMI cable At no point eg when restarting monitor no Second signal HDMI does the monitor show anything but Second monitor HDMI no signal quot Check Signal Cable quot I have updated my drivers windows and Nvidia and tried removing my display adapter and restarting forcing the computer to reinstall the drivers I have rebooted with the second monitor attached and unatatched with no luck The key point is that the computer recognizes the second monitor with the Nvidia control panel I can turn off the laptop screen and set both monitors as my extended display - second monitor still says no signal although the first monitor which works behaves as if it were part of an extended monitor Further the second monitor works normally as it was used on a previous laptop via VGA What could cause the quot no signal cable quot I did buy a second DVI-HDMI cable with the same result Any help would be most appreciated nbsp

A:Second monitor HDMI no signal

typically, dual monitors is not done with VGA, or if so, is implemented using a 'Y' cable.

A video card built to support dual video out is usually DVI with Y or two DVI ports on the card.

I recently bought a Radeon HD 5670 video card and upon installation realized I need a different cable than the one I am currently running from my monitor "emachines LE1799" to my motherboard. I found out it takes DL-DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI cables. I looked up the DL-DVI and I believe that is for running multiple displays correct? I will not be running more than one monitor, so can I buy the HDMI cable? Will that be the best option to connect the card to my monitor? Or will the DL-DVI be superior?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.
You guys are a lifesaver... without you I would be shooting in the dark. :0

Edit: Hmm I think I will need an HDMI to something else cable because I don't see that port on my monitor.

Hi all,

I just added a new Samsung DVD writer to my system and when I booted into Windows the drive cannot be seen. I rebooted and checked in the BIOS and the drive could be seen. So logged back into Windows and still nothing could be seen.

I have a SATA HDD which the OS runs off so didn't think it was the drivers. When I checked around on the internet the only thing that I could find was to upgrade the firmware, but in order to do that, Windows has to be able to see the device. Device doesn't appear in device manager so I'm now at a total loss. Any one got any ideas?

A:Samsung SATA SH-S223C cannot be seen in Windows

Some motherboards include SATA controllers made by two different makers which need different drivers. Maybe you have such a second controller and you plugged the new optical drive into one of it's ports. If so, you can just install the appropriate driver.
