I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently attempted to udgrade windows 7 to windows 10. The whole update ran properly however when my laptop rebooted, everything was the same. It came up as Eroor code 8007002c-2000d. I have tried updating it before and it didn't work then either. I can live with this as I don't need it updating urgently however since the last attempt the scroller on the touchpad no longer works. I use the scroller all the time and I don't know what to do, can anyone help?  Thanks

Hi, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer found on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. IDT HD Audio Installer. When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver found on the following link. Chipset Driver. When thie Chipset reinstallation has completes, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again before checking the function of the mute button led. Regards, DP-K

I've had this issue on both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 after I did the free upgrade. When I first got the laptop (used) it said battery 1 was plugged in and charging, but after a few days it changed to "Battery 1: This battery is not available for use" and "Battery 2: Plugged in and charging." Sometimes the charge level hovers around 98% and it says it's plugged in but not charging. The battery itself seems to charge fine and it works without the charger in too. It probably means nothing and is just a simple software error but I'd like to sort it out all the same. Thanks

I bought this computer as a refurbish about 7 months ago. It came with Windows 7 installed so I upgraded to Windows 10.It has been a very reliable machine until recently. Last week it suddenly failed to recognize the LAN connection. I checked all of the connections and there were no issues. I decided to perform a recovery through the windows recovery system. The recovery failed. I then went into the HP diagnostic tools. I ran the memory and disk diagnostics and they both came back successful. I then ran the run-in test and it just continues to loop. Any ideas? Help would be appreciated.

It is the right ram and fits the specifications for HP. In BIOS you can see that there is installed 8 GB but the bios memory test fails. Why is that? And which memory can I install that will work. Hi You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) Click start in search type Recovery Manager then click on it select Yes on User access control then select I need immediate help then select Driver & application recovery select the wireless driver and install it then restart the unit. 5) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well. If still you have the same issue then you need to call HP Technical support and get the part replaced.

Relevancy 76.11%

Hi,  had to replace motherboard with one bought on ebay.  Ebay seller said up front he didnt know the bios password.  Anyway Everything works ok after finally getting it back together, except the fingerprint reader.  I guess this is linked to the new motherboard, and I dont know if having the bios password will help me or not.  There are a couple of places in the setup menus where I could enable or reset the fingerprint reader.  But if anyone has any better idea as to how to get the fingerprint reader working I may be able to get by without the bios password at all. i still have the original Motherboard if that makes any difference to anything. Power jack mounting got broken on it. thanks in advance, sarge

A:Elitebook 8440p bios password

@Sarge57? Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..  ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Select   ?FIRST RUN? Then select model. After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT ?SECOND RUN? Some instructions here. ?If you cannot boot from USB there are instructions to make a bootable HDD.? More here. REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Hi all, I bought this laptop (model: VQ664ET) recently and I know noticed on the battery bay, there is a SIM card slot (to which I assume to be use with the HP Mobile Broadband Module).  The issue is that I don't seem to able to find any driver / software / utilities on the operating system (Windows 7 Professional) to make use of this feature. How would I able to determine if the mobile broadband module exists in my unit and could the SIM card slot is only there for "future expansion" where I would need to buy the mobile broadband module separately? Appreciate if anyone could share some light on this. Many thanks!!

A:HP Elitebook 8440p - Broadband Module Question

HI: You can do this a couple of ways: The non-invasive way is to check your device manager and in the network adapters section click on that and you will see what network adapters you have.  You should first check your HP Wireless assistant to make sure all devices are turned on. The first indicator of whether or not you have a WWAN card is if there is an option in your Wireless Assistant to turn it on.  If there isn't, you probably don't have one.  But you can make sure in the device manager...You will see a LAN adapter, a WLAN adapter and if you have a WWAN card installed you will see either an Ericsson F3607 SDG 900 HSPA minicard or a Qualcomm Evolution-Data only (EVDO)/High-speed packet access (HSPA) minicard. If you don't see either of these, you don't have a WWAN card installed. Now for your second question...can you install one if there isn't one. Maybe. This will take a couple minutes on your model to simply remove the plastic cover to the bay where it goes. If you see antennas in the bay, you can easily add a WWAN card. If you don't then I wouldn't bother as it will be a lot of work to take the whole notebook apart to add antennas. If you look on page 4-14 of the link to your service manual I have attached, you will see how to remove the cover to where the WWAN module goes. You will need a very small (jewelers) Philips head screwdriver. Before taking off the cover, remove the A/C power and main battery. If you don't do this, you could short something out. word of caution if you decide to go for the air can only purchase one of the two that you need, listed on the top right corner of page 4-14. They must be one of those HP part numbers. If you do not heed this warning, and purchase a card that differs from one of the two listed, your PC will boot with an error code stating you have an unsupported card, remove card and reboot. Your PC will not proceed any further until the unsupported WLAN card is removed.I am not a specialist in WWAN cards. A:Resetting BIOS password: EliteBook 8440p

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Alternatively, see the reply by @REO51ST? on the following link. Regards, DP-K

Hi all, i have a quick question today, Actually i have a Hp Elitebook 8440p with core i5 and 2gb ram ( samsung 2rx8 pc3-10600). and i am running windows 7 x64 bit. so i decided to upgrade memory to 8GB and i  install 2x4GB  (matched pair) (hynix 1rx8 pc3-10600). but it does not work. wont start up and goes in loop. and if i put original samsung 2GB back in then its work fine.. i tried many times with all possible combinations but it does not work. and if i go to bios setup, it shows 8GB memory installed in it but cant get thorugh in it. i am wondering is it the problem of 2rx8 and 1rx8? because my original old got 2rx8 and new ones got 1rx8 on it...  i am really worried about it...please help me soon...Thanks in advance

A:hp elitebook 8440p memory upgrade issue

I cannot say for 100% sure, but yes, I think the number of memory chips on the board can indicate density. The symptoms you have described indicate a density issue to a "T." The memory shows up fine in the BIOS, but the PC refuses to work with it. I have suggested this cause to several others and when they purchased the lower density memory with 16 chips on the board, their problem was solved.

I'm not sure where to ask but I have a problem.

My laptop (Acer Aspire 4750G) touchpad is not working. It is still usable, I can move the cursors with it. But the system seems telling me that I keep pressing the right button of the touchpad, so when I left click/tap the touchpad, it works as a right click instead. I disabled that by plugging in my USB mouse and right-clicking on the mouse. Well the problem comes again after I do that so I'm forced to use the USB mouse, which would be very annoying and time-eating if I have something to do quickly. Also, there's nothing stuck in there a the drivers are up-to-date.

A:HP Elitebook 8560p touchpad right click issues

Hi All Taught I'll let you know that I've found the solution to my problem it was an issue to do with hardware in particular the keyboard had a spare keyboard lying around which I taught I'll swap it out and it worked the right closest to the keyboard worked all sudden I rebooted several times to confirm and is till worked.i also wanted to do further investigation to see which part of keyboard wasn't working since it had two ribbon cables one for the point stick and one for the actual keybaord.i unplugged the point stick ribbon cable and just left the ribbon cable for the keyboard in and switched the machine on and both right click and left button now wasn't working then I decided to switch the point stick ribbon cable from the working keyboard to one wasn't working and plugged the original keyboard back and all the buttons worked even the right so culprit was the ribbon cable for the point stick. ThanksLekshmen

A:Laptop touchpad not working since installing Windows 10

Hello ObiDad. Welcome to the Forum

You don't say how old this laptop is or what operating system it came with, but that would be helpful to know.

The first thing I would try is to uninstall (remove) the touchpad from Device Manager. If the option is available remove the driver also. Then restart.
The important thing is that you try and remove all instances of any old drivers that may interfere with the generic driver installation.
Windows comes with a generic touchpad driver and that will be installed automatically and it may work right off, particularly if there is a driver conflict going on here.

If it works, then you could try and install the Advent driver. Only this time run the installer program (app) in Compatibility Mode. Use the compatibility mode for the operating system that the Advent driver is made for.
Compatibility Mode Settings for Apps - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

See if either or both of those things help.

Well... Thats about it. My left click was working and then all of a sudden. BANG. stopped. Moving the mouse with the touchpad and using the mousepad to left click still works as does the right click button on the touchpad. Any solutions?

A:Left Mouse Click on Laptop Touchpad stopped working

I assume you have checked your settings in Control Panel > Mouse Properties?

It will save a lot of time if you can determine whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem.
Try this: Download a copy of UBUNTU. Put this on a USB stick. Boot from the USB stick and choose to Run The Program (you do not need to install it on your hard drive). Then check to see if the mousepad works OK in UBUNTU. If it does then it is a Windows/Software problem. If it doesn't then it is a defective mousepad.

I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest a solution to the problem I have with the touchpad on my laptop, the one finger scrolling is not working, I have checked as far as I can using the info provided, as far as I know the driver is up to date, I've looked for 'Dell touchpad' or 'Device settings tab' in control panel and they aren't there, just mouse ( ps/2) properties and these are shown as ok, any ideas please? many thanks,Steven. ps, guruaid tell me it's a hardware problem but I'm not so sure, it used to work fine before Windows 10 was loaded and messed up a whole lot of functions, I was then told it's not compatible with this laptop, so I had to put Windows 7 back on and the problem stemmed from around that time

Have you performed a clean install of Windows 7 or have just rolled back the OS from Win10 to Win7? Is the touchpad detected in device manager? Is there any damage on the system? Do the touchpad button register a click?
Update the BIOS - restart the system and check if it works fine.  Reinstall the touchpad drivers from the same site and check.
If the touchpad is not detected in device manager- then download the service manual from the support site link above - and reseat the palmrest cables and check if it works.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.

I would recommend performing a repair installation of the operating system, since you used the registry cleaning portion of CCleaner. In addition to Broni's link Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry. Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work. Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes. If the changes prevent the system from booting up, then there is no backup available to restore it in order to regain functionality. A backup of the registry is essential BEFORE making any changes to the registry.Improperly removing registry entries can hamper malware disinfection and make the removal process more difficult if your computer becomes infected. For example, removing malware related registry entries before the infection is properly identified can contribute to system instability and even make the malware undetectable to removal tools. The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results".Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.Ed Bott's Webog: Why I dont use registry cleanersDo I need a Registry Cleaner?
