I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can boot into Linux or Windows, but some of the BIOS options could really stand tweaking. Is there any way to reset the BIOS admin password (or reset the BIOS to defaults)? Thanks

Dear Community, I have a HP Elitebook 8730w and I forgot the BIOS password. I tried all I could remember, I slept several days over it to remember, but I am lost. I contacted HP support but they told me they would not help with a file like smc.bin (which was mentioned in many forums). Any idea how to solve the problem ? I need to change the HDD but do not dare to do so as I cannot set up the new HDD or SSD in the BIOS. Help would very much be appraciated. I do not direclty post P/N and S/N due to privacy regulations in this forum. But if somebody can help me, please send message and I will post all the necessary details. I am student and have low budget so I was gladly using this older but fine Elitebook. But now i am real trouble.

Hello all!I've performed a BIOS update on Saturday to the latest one on HP's website, and ever since the laptop takes a long time to boot, flashing the LED code for "System board failure" - 5 blinks - and after a while boots normally to Windows. Since I had recently added 4gb ram, I tried removing it and re-seating the original 4gb stick, to no avail.Tried disconnecting the battery for 30s as I read in another post, no luck.Tried resetting bios to default, no luck. Both memory test and HDD test pass without errors.  Should I try to re-flash the BIOS, or is there any explanation for this odd behavior? Thank you very much for any help!

@Miguel12 Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Since your model is not listed select ?SHOTGUN.? After reboot repeat ?SHOTGUN? a second time. Some instructions here. ?If you cannot boot from USB there are instructions to make a bootable HDD.? http://mazzifsoftware.blogspot.com/2014/01/hp-bios??-unlock-for-dos.html More help here.http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility?s=ad... REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

A:Why do i need LSI HDA Modem for my HP Elitebook 8470P?

Hi, It is a modem. It is very small program which runs in the background and nearly all older business laptops still have it. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. Therefore my suggestion: keep it. Regards.

Hi,I need help.I want to install Win XP 32bit on my Elitebook 8470p, that came with Win8. A:Elitebook 8470p Help Install XP

Hi: Set the drive controller setting in the BIOS to AHCI. Also enable legacy mode in the BIOS, which should disable secure boot.  XP is not compatible with secure boot. Then read the info at the link below, Intel section.  Then read the info on the downloadable document for how to slipstream all of the sata drivers. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-... I have zipped up and attached the drivers you need to slipstream below. Slipstream the entire unzipped file folder.

I am currently having an issue with a number of HP EliteBook 8470p machines where the wireless won't enable again after the computer has been put to sleep. LAN/WAN switching is enabled and I can still use the LAN card without any problems. The wireless drivers haven't been updated the only changes would have been some Windows updates. Disabling and enabling the device in device manager doesn't make a difference. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Which version of BIOS is installed? Had you considered updating the BIOS? Have you installed the QFE and essential system updates provided by HP  applicable to the version of Windows that is installed? I woud have linked to available versions, but I am not aware of the installed OS the notebooks have installed. A:HP elitebook 8470p touch pad not working

Eapen, Welcome the the HP Forum. I must assume the TouchPad worked before -- say earlier today, yesterday, some time in the recent past. It may be "tangled" and need a quick driver reset:Close all your programs and Shut down the computerDisconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)Perform the Hard Reset for your notebookBoot the computer and log in NOTE:  This does NOT wipe out your data.  It is just a "clearing of the cobwebs". With a bit of luck, that will fix it up. ====================================================================================Next, consider the TouchPad may be disabled somewhere:Enable / Disable Touchpad If everything "looks" right, then take a look here:Fix Touchpad / ClickPad NOTE:  There are links to the relevant HP documents within the file.  Reference:  Drivers, Software & Firmware for HP EliteBook 8470p Notebook PC   Click the Kudos Thumbs-Up!It is a nice way to say ?Thank You" for the help.Although I strive to reflect HP's best practices, I do not work for HP.

So a little background history, about a year ago I plugged in my headphones and no sound was coming through so I went to the playback devices and disabled the laptop speakers in attempt that it would default the headphones and play out of them, which it did.

About a year later I finally stopped using the headphones and enabled the speakers again but for some reason sound won't play out of the laptop anymore. I don't know what caused this problem but I for some reason if I play games on my laptop no sound comes out anymore. Using Skype and watching videos anywhere else works but as soon as I launch a game there's never any audio.

I have barely any knowledge on computers and would like someone to guide me through and help me fix this! Thank you in advance.

does it possible to remove bios password on HP elitebook 6930p, CMOS battarey removed but did not reset password, can you help?

A:Hp elitebook 6930p bios password

You'll have to contact HP for that. You'll likely have to prove ownership before they help you bypass the password though. Removing the CMOS battery on a laptop won't reset the passwords. They are stored in an eeprom instead of an eprom like on a desktop PC. eeproms don't forget when you remove the power. Thats done on purpose to make it hard for a thief to gain access if your laptop is stolen or lost. Unfortunately for you Forum rules prevent me from saying anymore or helping you cheat it. Those type or discussions aren't allowed.

A:Lost BIOS password - Elitebook 840 G1

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

Hi,  had to replace motherboard with one bought on ebay.  Ebay seller said up front he didnt know the bios password.  Anyway Everything works ok after finally getting it back together, except the fingerprint reader.  I guess this is linked to the new motherboard, and I dont know if having the bios password will help me or not.  There are a couple of places in the setup menus where I could enable or reset the fingerprint reader.  But if anyone has any better idea as to how to get the fingerprint reader working I may be able to get by without the bios password at all. i still have the original Motherboard if that makes any difference to anything. Is there any hope for resetting the bios password on this laptop? I got it used and need to wipe it because Windows is acting up. Worse case I'll just install Linux in another computer and move the drive but I'm hoping to do it the proper way.

Hi, I don't know if the square lens piece that covers the webcam can just fall out but you can look inside & see the camera.I'm wonderung how to repair it. I read a long 8470 repair pdf doc but it never covered that part. It's still under warranty but don't really want to ship it both ways or know if its covered. Still I'd like to know how itcould be repaired. Can you just glue another cover on it or do you have to replace the entire plastic display bezel? This is what its supposed to look like http://img5.pcpop.com/ArticleImages/0X0/2/2520/002520015.jpg Mine is missing the square cover to the left side of the light. I hate leaving it open like that. Won't it get dust on it? Any help / advise is appreciated.

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R K

Forgot My Administrator Password, for my HP 2000 Notebook PC.

A:Forgot Administrator Password need to reset password. HP 200...

Hi, If you're running Windows 8 or 8.1, see the Microsoft page on the following link. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/forgot-windows-password Note:  If you have a Local Account, try the free application Here. If you're running Windows 7, Vista etc, try the following. Using another PC, download the application on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. PC Login Now When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer - this will result in another file appearing which is the disc image ( .ISO ) that you need to burn to a blank CD. You will now need to use an application such as ImgBurn to burn this ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. When the disc has been created, shutdown the PC you can't log-in on, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up Menu, insert the CD, select Boot Options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter - you may also have to 'Press any key' to boot from the CD if asked. Follow the instructions on the guide Here to remove the current password. Regards, DP-K

A:HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 BIOS PASSWORD FORGOTTEN

Hello @OskarB98? Welcome to the HP Support forum. I am afraid that there is no other options other than HP Support for business. Most business class notebooks (including yours Elitebook and Probook) have better security. You will have to contact HP Support for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password. I am sure they do not need any kind of proof - just be somewhat pushy. In order to generate this BIN file they will need your serial number, product number, UUID, etc... found in the startup menu (F1) .  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

Hi

I have a laptop at home where I need to reset the administrator password. I have done a bit of research into this and noticed various software that you can use to reset the password. I don't have the Windows 7 cd because the company I purchased the laptop from didn't provide it (I suppose this is usual from most top computer stores)

Anyone know a method to reset the password. Many thanks and I look forward to the replies

A:Reset Administrator Password

We don't help with password reset requests. You will need to reinstall Windows using either the restore partition on the drive (if there is one) or with the restore disks which you should be able to get from the laptop manufacturer.

Only the person to whom that Gmail account belongs can reset its password, you cannot do it. It looks that you are trying to install, change or modify something without the permission from the computer admin, we cannot help you with it. Ask the person to whom the Gmail account belongs, explain what you want to do and ask him / her to come to type his / her password.

If that is your MS account, the account you created using your Gmail account, use the password you gave when you created your MS account.

My fiance has a computer that I am using but I need to add some software and hardware. I cannot do this because her deceased husband has an administrative password that we cannot figure out. It uses XP but I do not have a start-up disc or anything like that. Surely there must be a way to change the password or at least download new hardware and software without the password.

Someone please help a novice computer guy keep this computer from ending up being a $500 paper weight!

A:Need the reset for password on Latitude C400, bios revision A06, original password.?

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in.
I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working.

i cannot get into my computer!

is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none!

this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.
