I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Aspire 5530, I need to know if and where the bios reset jumper in on the motherboard. Funny how when you buy a motherboard you get that info but if you buy a laptop you don't. I don't have the password to the bios and I need to set it to boot from cdrom.

A laptop BIOS password is a security feature and is not easily removed. Contact the manufacturer and be prepared to prove ownership.

Hi everyone,I recently wanted to re-setup my Acer Aspire 7250g with Linux Mint. I switched to the BIOS to change the boot order, typed in the password and i got the message, that the password is wrong. So I looked up some solutions. I tried to find a masterpassword, but there was no errorcode shown. I tried some other things, but they didnt work as well. At last i took out the CMOS battery, I restarted the pc after i put the battery back in and all I got was a black screen.I tried to flash the BIOS, because I read that the BIOS might be corrupted. I followed the instructions of this thread; http://community.acer.com/t5/2014-Archives/Re-flash-a-corrupt-BIOS-for-an-Acer-Aspire-7250/td-p/9376... . I tried it multiple ways with this solution, but nothing worked.I hope someone can help me. LG Fuzzy

I forgot my bios password from my v5-551. There is no

I can't believe nobody has asked this question before sind I have googled it and it does not appear that uncommon. I downgraded from Win10 and somehow I can't get the BIOS to give me options. The screen does not get a signal and all I get is a blinking power button. Here is what I tried: I disconnected everything - HDD, DVD, Power and removed the battery from the motherboard and waited 5 minand combinations of the abover connecting something :-) I believe I should reset the motherboard BIOS and frankly on the motherboard I encounter just three locations where I could manipulate things with jumpers. Is there a manual for the MB somewhere? A way I can flash a new firmware from a USB stick? Any trick to get the Monitor to show something?

A:how factory reset acer aspire 4738

Hello persia and welcome to Seven Forums.

Most computers come with a factory installed recovery option. The recovery option is usually located in the Start menu > All Programs and provides detailed step-by-step instructions to return your machine to the exact same condition it was in when you first bought it. That means you would have to install all Windows Updates, any programs you installed, etc.

If you provide a little more info about why you want (or need) to reset your laptop other Forum members might jump in with additional suggestions. For example, are you not able to start your computer? Do you think your computer has malware? Are you not able to get an internet connection? Are you receiving any errors? Did you recently install some software or program that has messed up your computer?

Here are a few things for you to consider:
1. Did you create recovery CDs when you bought the Acer? If not you may be able to get them directly from the manufacturer. (This is the US Acer Store so you may have to go to the store that services your country if you're not in the US.)
eRecovery Media | Acer
2. Do you think a System Restore would help your situation? This tutorial explains more:
System Restore
3. You might find that a Repair Install will help you. If successful it will preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc but you would still have to reinstall all Windows Updates (probably 250+ updates which could take several hours.)
Repair Install

Again, please provide more info about your situation and why you want to reset to factory settings.

If you are able to boot you computer and login into windows, you may try recovery using Acer recovery management application.  System Recovery  During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.. If system does not boot, you may try recovery from outside windows. A:Reinstall OS on Acer Aspire 5738z Win 7 or reset to factory settings?

If I understood correctly you have an OEM version of Windows 7, and I doubt those iso files will match your product key. However the best way in my opinion is to use the built in recovery manager of Acer, where you create the necessary installation dvds and then perform a clean install. It should take 3-5 dvds to burn them, and you will lose all your data that already exists on the hard drive. Make a backup copy of all your files before proceeding with installation, in this way you will get a fresh drive.
Its a pretty straight forward process and it will install the correct version of your Windows, along with other softwares that came when you purchased it. You have to update the Windows as they are not included in those burned dvds.

Hiyo all,

I garbage picked this old Optiplex GX 260. I upgraded the Ram to 1 gig, put in an old video card with no trouble at all. then I try to upgrade the Hard drive and it says 'primary hard drive 0 failure'.

I checked the jumpers on the hard drives the primary is set to DS (Primary) and the secondary is set to DS (Secondary). Hooked up the Ribbon Cable accordingly (was not easy, let me tell you). I've even checked the Bios settings and made sure that the order is cdrom, hard drive, floppy disk.

At this point I'm pretty sure the bios needs to be reset, but I can't find the jumper to do that (if its possible at all).

I've taken pictures of the on-screen messages if anyone needs to see them.
Can Images be uploaded to this Website ?.

The Machine is at the repair place now and I was told the 'Bios needed resetting'.
Assuming this happens again, how could the job be done at Home. Please be as detailed as you can.
I hope the operating system has'nt been damaged.
What exactly are 'Bios' anyway and why are they important ?.
How could loss of Electricity cause such a problem ?.

Hoping someone can help.

I recently upgraded my BIOS. The orginal was a dual BIOS from Award. Pheonix's eSupport (for a fee) provided me with an upgrade, which has worked fine. I have had a couple of strange system hangs, though. These have resulted in in my having to restart the system (as in turning it on and off). When I have restarted, the old BIOS is in place. I can easily fix this by re-flashing the BIOS, but does anyone have idea what is going on?

I have, obviously, checked the system for viruses but my checker (Norton 2003 with all the relevant unpdates) can't find anything.

Hi,

A while ago I tried to put a new HDD in my laptop and got a message saying something a long the lines that the disk wasn't recognised (forgot exact message)

I took the computer to my computer repair shop and they installed the HDD I asked them if it would be easy for me to do it and they said yes it was just a case of resetting the BIOS.

Can anybody please tell me how to reset the BIOS so I can install a new HDD?

I've installed HDD's in windows 7 machines and it was just a case of inserting the disk- I didn't have to mess with the BIOS!

TIA,

regards,

Check your BIOS to see if the hard drive detection is set to "auto." If so, your hard drive should have already been detected. If your hard drive is not recognized by the BIOS, take it back to the repair shop. What makes you think the BIOS is not already recognizing your new HD? Did you try inserting the installation disk? If so, what happened?

HelloI forgot the password to the bios. How can i reset it ?

A:Reset Bios

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

CCA  Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Select   ?FIRST RUN? Then select model. After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT ?SECOND RUN? Some instructions here. ?If you cannot boot from USB there are instructions to make a bootable HDD.? http://mazzifsoftware.blogspot.com/2014/01/hp-bios??-unlock-for-dos.html More here. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-??Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Or something along those lines. I was having RAM/CPU issues with my computer and everyone kept asking me "did you install all the drivers?"...of course I did! I'm not retarded! So the next thing they suggested is updating my BIOS. Alas, I did that, and now my BIOS won't even start up. If anyone can help me reset the BIOS or install new BIOS it would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: I've tried putting the BIOS files on a CD/Flash Drive and it doesn't work. The manufacturer won't replace it because they say it's 'not their problem'. This is my last hope.

I accidentally disabled all the internal and external USB ports to my All in One touch screen. As a result I have no touch screen, no keyboard and no mouse control and can't get any. I pulled the CMOS battery and discharged the system but that doesn't seem to have reset it. There are only two jumpers that I can find on the board. I'm hoping one of these is a CMOS reset but I have no idea which one and I don't want to start randomly shorting things. Can anyone tell me how I reset the BIOS via the hardware? Thanks!

A:Bios Reset

@Archer01?, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you go into the BIOS to do the reset: Tap "Esc" key as the computer boots / Choose BIOS setup / Reset  default settings and Exit (May be a bit different wording.). This should do what you need. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Can anyone tell me how i can rest the Bios on a PC.I have heard it can solve wireless issues. Is there any truth to this?Desperate at this point.

A:How can i reset the Bios?

i can't see how 'resetting the BIOS' could solve wireless issues (unless you have an onboard wlan controller that has been disabled in the BIOS)

you should provide detailed info on the real problem which i don't think is related your BIOS settings.

if you really want to 'reset the BIOS', there are 2 options:

1. open the computer case, refer to your main board manual, find the correct jumper switch to clear the CMOS on the mainboard and follow the instructions.

2. enter the BIOS setup utility and load the Default settings.

I bought a CMOS battery once, and it was flat !

You could try another battery. Or possibly clean (scrape with small flat screwdriver) the contacts where the CMOS battery fits into.

Also re-confirm that the CMOS jumper, is not jumpered at all

To remove the BIOS passwords you need to short the 2 contacts marked RTC RESET. Remove the memory cover. Look for the 2 contacts between wireless card and memory.   Remove main battery and AC. Use a small flathead screwdriver to short the 2 contacts. Passwords are gone. If STRINGENT SECURITY is enabled this will NOT work. Let us know if it works for you. REO  I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Used an x-acto knife because the blade is thinner than on a screwdriver. When attempted to short with the screwdriver, the short did not happen because the spacing is extremely small. Accepted as Solution.

I go into bios to change the setting and there's a system admin password that I didn't know about or don't remember that's keeping me from changing any bios settings. Those are not jumpers If you want to reset BIOS settings, you could just unplug power(cord off the PSU), discharge power by pressing the power button for 10 secs, then take the CMOS battery off, and wait for half an hour or so. Put those wires back their place. Refer to motherboard manual...

@Jassboy4u? Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

I reset the bios by unplugging battery, but the password still remains. When I enter the BIOS password incorrectly 4 times the system is locked, but I'm not given any numbers or keys.I have an Elitebook 820 laptop. Please help anyone!

A:Cannot reset BIOS password

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

A:I need to reset BIOS password.

Hi, At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code. Regards, DP-K
