I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd suggest starting with running a memory test ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial146.html ); then following that with a bootable hard drive diagnostic:

Here's a description from my blog:

Code:
What you'll need:
- a blank CD
- a computer with an internet connection where you can download a file, install a small program, and burn a CD (doesn't have to be the computer that you'll be testing).

1. Determine the make and model of your hard drive

- In Windows XP - Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there)

- In Windows VISTA - Go to Start...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there

- From outside of Windows: Unplug the system from the wall, remove the battery (if it's a laptop) and crack the case open. Look inside to locate the hard drive and write down the make and model number (although the model number isn't required for the test, it will help you to identify what sort of drive to replace if the test says that the drive is bad).

If you're unable to see the hard drive info, follow the steps below for the Hitachi DFT. At the screen where it asks you if the list is correct, the model number of your drive will be there. Use Google to search for the model and that will let you know the manufacturer.

NOTE: It's strongly recommended that you use the test from the manufacturer of your hard drive. Most manufacturers build in tests that are only for their drives (in addition to the standard S.M.A.R.T. tests) - so using their test will give more accurate results.

2. Locate the support website of the hard drive manufacturer from the following list and download the appropriate file to your computer. FWIW - the first link for each drive usually contains more information/instructions about running the test.

Hitachi - http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT Download this image for CD's: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/dft32_v415_b01.iso

Western Digital - http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=6&lang=en Download the Diag504fCD.iso file on this page: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=601&sid=30&lang=en

Seagate - http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools Download the Seatools for DOS ISO CD-ROM Image from this link: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/seatooldreg (English version here: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatools/SeaToolsDOS213bEURO.ISO )

Maxtor - Seagate SeaTools has replaced the Maxtor diagnostics. Use the Seagate SeaTools links above.

Toshiba - I'm unable to locate any tools for Toshiba. I'd suggest the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) from above.

Fujitsu - http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/storage/hdd/support/utilities.html Download the DOS Diagnostic Tool Ver. 7.0 (For IDE/ATA/SATA Hard Drives from this link: http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/COMP/fcpa/hdd/utilities/fjdt_700.zip You'll have to copy the file to a DOS boot CD and manually execute the FJDT.exe file once you've booted to DOS. If this is too difficult, use the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) from above.

Samsung - http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html Download the Hutil 210 ISO (for CD-ROM drive).zip from here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/Hutil210_iso_for_CDROM_drive.zip You must unzip the file before you can burn (NOT copy) the ISO image to a CD.

IBM - IBM has merged with Hitachi. Use the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) listed above.

3. If you do not have a disk burning program that's capable of burning ISO images to your CD drive, I suggest this free tool: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm Select the ... Read more

After a power outage weeks ago I was having issues with the system going down at around minutes and then less and less time after that I was told it was a display issue Stuck classpnp.sys on stuck screen, safe Windows splash on mode and to uninstall and reinstall my display drivers I uninstalled my drivers and it was still the same I felt like it was temperature related I found my graphics card Radeon was dirty I cleaned it and thought I was back in business Everything was back to normal all I needed to do was update my graphics drivers Once that was done my computer would no longer load past the Windows splash screen I used Puppy Linux on a flash drive and I have access to everything I can use the internet and access all my files This to me says that it is not a hardware issue The fact that when I try to go into safe mode it gets stuck for more than a day on classpnp sys when I finally give up I understand that classpnp sys has Stuck on Windows splash screen, safe mode stuck on classpnp.sys loaded but there Stuck on Windows splash screen, safe mode stuck on classpnp.sys is something after that that the computer can't load I have Stuck on Windows splash screen, safe mode stuck on classpnp.sys seen some people have atipcie sys load after classpnp sys and it makes sense to me that it would be a graphics driver that is causing the issue I need my Windows up and running for school and work projects Any ideas thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated

Hi ,
Follow this tutorial to run SFC /Scannow at boot.
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
If you want to run the command from a USB drive follow this tutorial.

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your hp 2000 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

Hi Guys We have a single outbox- conventional either Outlook stuck 'stuck' Not user here that has problems with stuck outbox messages in outlook Off of only one of his email accounts in his profile Off of only his computer Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either There are definitely some patterns of characteristics from the emails though which I would imagine have something to do with the problem They are They almost always include attachments they've always got multiple recipients Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either and CC's and they're almost always replies in threads of emails being sent back and forth Clearing out and recreating his profile doesn't help doing the standard quot take off some of the 'RE 's in the subject line quot throw it in drafts and then re-send it copy-and-paste it into a new message altogether some of these randomly help solve problems at total random but of the time they don't work My only workaround that works completely is using a virtual box or logging in through another PC setting up his profile and forwarding the stuck message from the outbox on the alternate computer Now obviously that means it's not our email host and it's not some strange format or character that's universally just not able to send what happens with these messages is that they aren't even looked at they don't even begin to send sometimes attachments would explain a delay as it would take time to send out a big file they're just ignored permanently on his computer I obviously see a solution would be to switch out his desktop but that's kind of like saying quot my hard drive's being slow let's just reformat quot before you even try cleaning it up a little I'm assuming it's down to an application problem within Outlook or something obviously software-based It's so intermittent though and it works normally so often that it doesn't seem like an Outlook re-install would do much good anyway because nothing is permanently broken it does work sometimes Does anyone have any idea what the root of these stuck email problems are Is there anything I can do Thank you

A:Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either

Greetings!

I have a bit of experience with Outlook and Exchange, so I have a few questions for you--
Are you running in a Microsoft Exchange environment, and if so, which version?
What antivirus are you running on the affected PC?
Do you have any special spam filtering or virus scanning on the mail server that is specifically for email?

I've seen where certain antivirus products can cause these "stuck" outbox issues. I assume you've tried the basic F9 (send/receive) to try and force the message through as well?

Thanks

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. Video: Fixing a problem using System Restore If that doesn't help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup. No suitable restore point, backup, or image available? Kick yourself -- you missed the easy solution, and you're left with digging through Windows' many settings.

I cannot install Malware Bytes on my pc

Have downloaded mbam setup and when I double click installer it would not execute

I then opened the installer as administrator and when I double clicked a window appeared with the message

?Select Setup Language to use during the installation? with a never ending spinning blue circle in the window I cannot proced further

Malware Bytes customer support advised me to turn off widows defender I did and still could not install

They then instructed me to use the FARBAR recovery tool and send them the results and they could not detect any problems in the reports

I have always like the malware bytes software but I am at a dead end and cannot solve the install problem.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be or an alternate to malware bytes software?
Thanks for your help

I've just been trying to install XP home on my new computer from scratch onto a clean new harddrive It partitioned and formatted it OK and seemed to be installing windows Ok It then got to the stage where it wanted to restart the computer I let it it did so and i was dumped right back to the start of the install process This time it could see that the drive was partitioned and could see that it had installed windows on it I was advised that when it restarted itself i should have quickly removed the CD to force it to boot from the harddrive I did that but then i just got an PXE-E Media test failure check cable error message while it was trying to boot So i researched this error and it seems to be quite famous although mostly for laptops Following advice again i disabled the option of booting from the internal LAN don't ask me why it would be set to do this or what that means anyway and that got rid of the error message but the system still won't boot It just sits there after it gets past the boot from CD line So does anyone have any ideas Thanks for any help EDIT it's a SATA harddrive but just in case i set the jumper on the CD drive to slave

A:XP install - very stuck

To my knowledge, the cdrom should be set to master on the primary ide controller. Your sata drive will be connected to the sata 0. Have you tired this setup?
I have seen that meesage where you need to press any key to boot from cd and if you dont press any key it will boot from the hard drive.

Hello friends, I've been running Windows 7 pro & decided to upgrade to Windows7 Ultimate. I've put the install disk in & when it gets to the part where I have to choose where its installed to, the box is empty. I think it might be a problem with the motherboard driver & have downloaded the driver ( I think ) but cant figure out how to install it. Has anyone else had this problem & if so do you know what I should do. I am not to clever with PCs so if there is a solution could you please tell me in an easy to understand way please.

I've tried installing a few times, and every time it gets to 75% with 1% in configuring settings. It'll stay like that for hours, so I've forced shutdown and restarted. It reverts to Win8.1, and in Windows Update it says there was an important update that didn't complete, error code: "WindowsUpdate_C1900101 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000". It starts downloading Windows 10 and we go around again. Help?

Try getting the .iso and upgrading from that.

Windows 10

It is not guaranteed to work any better, but you'll only need to download it once.

Please fill in your System Specs at bottom left of your post.

Where did you get Windows 7? Did you burn DVD yourself?

Are you booting from the installer or running it from previous OS?

My old desktop runs win XP home version and in the last months I experienced increasing problems - slowing down and crashes. Finally I decided to reinstall the original XP. In the beginning all went well, then it crashed and displayed a message that there is something missing and installation cannot continue until the problem is solved. But after I reboot, it starts the install process again and crashes at the same point. How can I roll back or force it to complete the installation?
Can I run winXP from an external device or CD without the hard drive (which may be damaged) ???

A:XP install is stuck

You can't . .

Missing files is often an indication of faulty memory . . You can click on the link to Memtest in my signature and run diagnostics to rule that out.

If the memory passes, You can run diagnostics on the hard drive

I got Windows 7 the other day and was trying to install it instead of XP but it just won't let me cancel the XP install or boot the Windows 7 disc.. Is there any way I can delete everything so I can get a clean install of 7 on it? I've tried just about everything I can think of and can't really find any results on Google for my specific problem. My friend no longer has the XP disc so calling Microsoft to get a serial isn't an option. Is there ANY way I can do this?

A:Solved: outgoing emails stuck in outlook 2003. Emails getting stuck in outbox

In almost all cases, it's just a matter of the settings not being correct, maybe the SMTP port number is incorrect or authentication needs to be turned on.

Also, if you had messages already waiting in the Outbox before changing any settings, you should delete those and try sending a new message.

Here's the AT&T settings: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401570&cv=801&_requestid=334567#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_

And the configuration steps: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401573#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_
It's pretty close for Outlook 2003.

Installed the full release version of ie9 on my pc yesterday. Ever since then my monitor resolution will only offer me 640x480 @60 hz. Col. It only offers me 32 bit for colours also.

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon hd 5570 and I have tried installing the latest drivers for that, but to no avail.

This is driving me bonkers, can anyone help.

Oh by the way I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 - Bit

Thanks

A:After ie9 install res stuck in 640 x480

Sounds like a bad install. Lets test with another broswer; try Firefox or Chrome. If it works, I think that you should use that browser.
If it does not work, go to search and type Turn windows features turn on or off,
turn off IE.
If that does not work, uninstall and try. If it works, keep it uninstalled or try to install again, and see what happens.

I got the free windows 7 disc shipped from Toshiba for my laptop. I have the E105 series, 4 gb ram, 500 gb HDD, Centrino 2 Processor. I tried uninstalling programs, updating the BIOS, ans such. The Wireless has to be unistalled and disabled, so I cannot chose the option to connect to the internet and get updates. Its possible for me to get a hardwire if that might help. I've tried 5 times and every time i get the same result. I'm fairly competent at a computer, but I don't want to disassemble anything since I bought a 3 year warranty for lot of $$$ that cover accidental damage, and that gets voided if I open the bottom of the laptop. Throw me some sugesstions, because its stuck at 60% everytime, even after upgrading the BIOS.

and welcome to the Forum

You can't format the drive windows is installed on while in windows . . you have to boot from the Vista installation DVD.

See this for how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884

Before doing that, I would run diagnostics on the hard drive ( click here ) to rule out failure

Hello everyone Im really new to this so here goes.
My wife was having some wierd problems with her e-machine and we decided to restore her computer with her backup CD's (we have done this before with no problems) tonight we went through the process and got to the window start up where you enter the time zone and such, when we get to the <computers name> section where you can place the name or skip the step the pc is just sitting there going no further, I installed a new hard drive and it is doing the same getting stuck in the same place. is the pc just dying or am I doing something wrong.
While ive been waiting for a response from someone ive tried to reinstall windows again and noticed that it is creating an R: drive and putting windows there could this be the problem, if so is there a solution.

I had problems with AOL shutting down my computer when it was searching for a way to connect. We have AOL 9.1 for broadband, with an internet connection via a router. To try and solve the problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled AOL. Now when I start AOL, it gives me the message "AOL will now install the files required to connect to the service. Click yes to install these files. You may be asked to restart your computer; otherwise, you will not be able to connect." After the computer reboots, I keep getting the same message when trying to restart AOL. Any ideas?

A:AOL install stuck in a loop

Hello tomswmr and welcome to TSF

Quick question, Upon reboot is the disk still in the machine?
Sometimes when the disk is left in then it will try and update or reinstall the product,

Usually the reboot is to confirm and complete the installation meaning the disk may not be needed at that stage,

Try removing the disk just before the reboot or as its booting up

Regards

Craig

It gets to 18% of expanding Windows file.
Then the status message alternates between progress and "Windows needs to restart your computer."
Does not restart.

EDIT: Had malware that prevented System Restore from working. Fixed that. Could they be related?

A:Repair Install gets stuck

I have the exact same problem, stuck at 18%, same alternating message - same Win 7 x64 Pro. When you stated that you has Malware preventing System Restore - how did you identify that..? I've used several malware cleaners (Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Malware bytes) - so I think I'm good, but you never know.

I hope someone gets back with some tests/resolution.

Some have had problems with more than 2gb memory on the MB at the time of install for the first time. Where did you get the RTM build that you are trying to install ? Which version are you upgrading ?

I allowed the IE10 update to install. The installation appeared fine, however IE10 froze every time I tried to enter an address away from my homepage (about:blank). I uninstalled using the removal of update expecting IE9 to come back. The icons are there, but when clicked on i get a brief flash of a window and nothing more.

I tried reinstalling IE9 but that fails reporting it can't install as a later browser (or some files) is/are installed.
I tried reinstalling IE10 but that fails with an 'unknown error', so at the moment i seem sandwiched between browser versions.

System restore has been turned off for a long time as previously I have never found it to work succesfully on my system.

Any ideas please?

rgds Dave.

Backup your 100 GB of files using an Ubuntu Live CD saving them to a USB HDD. Once you are safely backed up, Format and install Windows from the CD.
Remember to always keep files you can't live without in more then one drive. (ex) C: drive, USB HDD, CD/DVD, another HDD.

Your best bet despite it being a PITA is a clean install. Force boot from the dvd format and install. If you had a backup from before that time you could just restore it from there, but failing that. Re-install is the way

Hi,

I'm trying to do a repair install (upgrade) of Windows 7 SP1, but it just got stuck. The setup rebooted the PC, but upon starting Windows I'm getting an error message saying it can't start the installation process. When I click OK or just close the window, the PC reboots and I'm getting the same thing again. The same thing happens when I turn off the PC and start again.

In other words: Windows won't properly start up anymore. How do I fix this?

I have been trying to install a new WORD 2000 CD. It will go through certain steps, but then get "hung-up" during the install process. It will say to "please wait while it is being installed" yet it stops 1/4 way through. I have removed the old complimentary version of Word, cleaned my disc drive with a laser cleaner, tested other CD's too (some work, some don't). I'm using XP 2000 also. Any help is appreciated.

Hi folks. I'm installing Windows 7 on top of Vista. My laptop powered off very close to the end of the install and now I cannot roll back or complete the installation of 7.

When I boot up i get a command prompt window with the following:

Microsoft Windows [version 6.1.7600]

X:\$windows.~BT\windows\system32>

What should I do???

A:In real trouble - Stuck in mid-install

Try going into the BIOS and setting it to boot from the DVD drive, load in the Windows 7 DVD and boot up that way.

You may be able to repair the installation from there, depending on where it was in the install when it shut down.

P.S - Welcome to Seven Forums, sorry it was under such trying circumstances.

Hi Guys,

MSI 1080 gaming X driver package won't install, it says "OS not supported".

I downloaded for win 10 x64, my win is 10 pro x64 no doubt about that

BUT

I did not set the WHQL option in the bios, left it as disabled, and I just noticed that the driver packages contain WHQL in their file names, there don't seem to be no-WHQL options available?

I tried changing the WHQL in the bios but that ended up me booting into UEFI (blah!).

Should I be reinstalling windows with the WQHL in the bios set to Enabled?

I need to know this NOW before I go any further, I would like to make a good start and not have to worry later. I have literally just built this PC and I would appreciate some pointers.

I've tried installing numerous operating systems including:
Fedora 14 (x86 and 64 bit)
Ubuntu 9.10 (x86 and 64 bit)
Windows 7 (64 bit)

the issue is the box stops at a black screen with a blinking cursor (linux) or the windows 7 loading screen depending on OS.

my parts are as follows:
MSI 890GXM-G65 AM3
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX
ASUS GeForce GTX 460

The memory passes memtest86+ after 4 hours

I cant seem to isolate the problem down to one part
any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated
i have a hunch that its the power supply not being able to handle everything but cant seem to verify

A:Stuck at black screen during install

I would try removing as many non-essential things from the machine to start with (sound cards, maybe half your RAM, USB devices other than kb+mouse, firewire devices, etc.) Also, you might want to check your bios to see if there's a special setting for memory while installing an OS. I doubt your problem is your powersupply if you can run for 4 hours on a memtest and I doubt it's really the mem if you're not getting any failures. Last thing I'd try is swapping out a video card - I did have an issue once where I'd freeze and couldn't believe it was the video card causing it till I popped that card into another machine and the same thing happened.

Hello to everyone,
This is my windows 7-related issue: my laptop is 4 years old Fujitsu and over the years it's seen many OS. XP ran ok, I played with VISTA for a little while but didn't like it, and now since I own an original Win 7 DVD (prior to SP1) I wanted to install it for so long. Every time I've tried, after formatting the disk and copying the system files, the installation got stuck at 1% installing files.
I have tried a few times to make it happen, with the same effect. Now I've bought a piece of hardware that is only working on Windows 7, so I desperately need to install it. Can anyone tell me what can be done?
In case you need my laptop specs:

It will tell you if anything is lacking and meanwhile I'll research your problem and try to find a possible solution.

Also, whenever I install a new operating system I prefer to wipe the drive properly rather that trust the standard windows format.

A:XP SVC Pack2 install stuck at 39 minutes

You can download the disk utilities from the drive manufacturer, burn to CD, and then boot from the CD and test your HDD.

Aside from that, you could remove all partitions, create a new single partition, format, and attempt the install again.

Either of your CD's should work. If not, it could be about anything. From a bad CD, bad CDROM, bad RAM, bad HDD.

I wanted to dual boot Win 7 64 with my vista 32 but after the install completes and the computer reboots it hangs on the Win 7 boot logo and then just stays there until i turn off the power button. It's kinda like the problem when you have a USB plugged in and the boot logo hangs except there's nothing plugged into the comp. Reinstalled again the the same result. When I look at the win 7 drive from vista it looks like all the files are all there but it just keeps hanging on that logo =(. What should I do?

Also when i try and boot into safemode it hangs on "Classpnp.sys"
I've looked elsewhere and seen that people solved this problem by updating bios but I have the latest version of mine =(
I've tried EVERY boot option in F8 to no avail.

Hello

First I would plug back in your old hard drive and use the new one as a slave and check to see if the new hard drive has a Windows folder if so follow the below instuctions:

(New hard drive only)

Go here and follow option 3 to get to the Recovery Console

Then follow the Using the Command Console within Windows Recovery Console section to log on to the Command Prompt and type fixboot

 yvlasenko,
You do not mention what you set the computer boot mode to prior to installing Windows.
Click the link below for information installing Windows on your computer and windows boot menu setting that is needed for installation.
There is also a couple of links listed that hopefully, will help you complete the installation.
Restore your Dell computer to the Dell factory image using recovery media
If you have created recovery media and need to use it (because the hard drive was replaced or the pre-installed recovery partition is not available), you can restore your computer to factory settings by following these steps:
This process formats the hard drive and removes all data. Be sure you have backed up your files prior to beginning this task.

Insert the recovery media into a USB port or a DVD drive, depending on the format you used to create the recovery media.
Power the computer off.
Power the computer on and, at the Dell logo screen, tap the F12 key several times until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen.
At the boot menu, select the device under UEFI BOOT that matches your media type (USB or DVD).
Select your keyboard language.
At the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
Select Factory Image Restore.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process. This will take some time and your computer will restart.

If you have not created recovery media, you can download a Windows image online.

A:Windows 2000 install stuck in a loop

sloww dwn
start with adding drive to your pc
did you add as 2nd drive and copy files from it
what os is the pc you put this drive on
if your pc is ntfs it should read the files even if the files are fat32
when you coped files how long did it take and did you check to see if they where good before formatting hdd
now as to formatting drive and loosing the files ther are numberr of file recovery softwares out ther and venders, like me ,who recover deleted files in this type of situation.
if the files are unimportant lets forget them now
and try to get the ibm to run W$K setup
open machine and jumper cmos to reset
runing postion is 1-2 put it on 2-3 for bout 30sec.s or so then put the jumper bacl
make sure the unit is totaly unplugged from wall
with HDD unplugged ,boot machine
go into bios and set 1st boot to cd
2nd boot hdd 0 disable boot floppy seek and or
add drive
add disc should prompt to bbot from disc do so
if you see a configed (formatted drive )delete it
and start format over again.make sure ther are no network cards modem cards in machine.

I have not yet cancelled the setup, but here is an extract from the top of the error log, with the first error----------------------------------[12:53:32] Entering CFileManager::ScAutoDetectDirectoryLocations[12:53:32] CService::ScQueryServiceConfig (K:\admin\src\libs\exsetup\service.cxx:536) Error code 0XC0070424 (1060): The specified service does not exist as an installed service.[12:53:32] ScGetClusterSvcDir (K:\admin\src\libs\exsetup\exmisc.cxx:2322) Error code 0XC0070424 (1060): The specified service does not exist as an installed service.[12:53:32] === IGNORING PREVIOUS ERRORS === CFileManager::ScAutoDetectDirectoryLocations (K:\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\filemgr.cxx:463) The operation has completed successfully.Thing is, i don't have a drive K.The hard disk is partitioned into two, C & DThe removable drive is drive E and F is the CD-Rom driveI don't get why it is referring to "K:\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\filemgr.cxx:463)......"

1) Can you remove the drive.

2) install as slave to a PC runnig windows.

3) delete all partitions & format.

4) Then you will be installing on to a nice clean drive.

Hi there,
after a complete clean reinstall of Windows 8.1 on my XPS 12 (boot from USB, delete all partitions, do a clean install of Windows 8.1) the laptop won´t boot.
The Dell logo appears and it freezes. I can´t get into bios with F2 nor change the boot options with F12.
There is a blue bar on the screen and either F2 or F12 is highlighted.
No change to boot Windows or to boot from USB.
Any hints?

Regards
Andy

Hello everybody,

I had a problem with updating Windows 7, it just hanged on "Checking for uptades"... I've read other topics concerning this issue and followed instructions to remove "wuauserv" from the registry.

The next step was to run "%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection AutoUpdate 132 %SystemRoot%\inf\au.inf" from the run box, but that step gave me error "Installation failed".

Now I can't even start Windows Update service, I'm getting error "Windows cannot check for update because service is not running..."

Any solutions? How to install wuauserv?

Thanks

To whomever can help:

I was given a computer for my daughter. It was JUST installed with Windows 7 home Premium sp1 when we got it. When I have tried to check for updates, it gets stuck- even if I leave it for hours & hours, it still continues to "check for updates" (& I have very fast internet). I have ran microsofts windows update troubleshooter, but it still does the same thing. I have ran the things listed in the sticky needed to be done for problems with windows update, with no issues. Please help.

Thank you for your time & assistance.

Noel is our expert on Windows 7 Updates and he is off line.

Just a note:
I just did a Clean Install yesterday and it took 5 hours to download and install Updates. Their will be over 200 of them.
The bar that goes across the screen lies. I watch my router activity light to see if things are being downloaded.

I have tried to do a Repair install many times.
Win7 Ultimate sp1 32bit
Lenovo Thinkpad W550s laptop
With Win7 showing windows is activated showing Genuine Microsoft software before the repair.

Every time it goes through all the motions and stops at a window asking me for the product key.  The keyboard is frozen.
I have tried plugging in a USB keyboad.
I have tried disabling the internal keyboard in the laptop and leaving the USB keyboard plugged in during the entire process.
I have tried updating the internal keyboard drivers.
I have tried updating the BIOS.

I have copied the Win7 CD to the hard drive and I'm running the Repair install from the hard drive.
I have the correct product key.  I just can't enter it because the keyboard is not responding.

Do you have any ideas how I can get past this product key screen?

Thank you,

Docfxit

Because it's a repair install and not a clean install does it allow you to click next without inputting a product key?

Symptom is always the same the green bar gets about halfway along and then it gets stuck I left it going for hours--nothing The one time it's done something different the first time I tried to install from the download file it gave me a BSOD X a xC ataport SYS but I haven't been able to reproduce that and I'm not sure at what point in the update process it happened Installation is only a week old It's Enterprise using a volume-license MAK key and correctly registered I have use the SURT it installed properly and the CheckSUR log says no errors detected sfc scannow reports no errors There are no error codes in Windows Update chkdsk reports no errors I have tried both the Windows Update installer and downloading the SP pack to install - same result I have scanned for viruses and malware and then uninstalled my 7 Windows install stuck SP1 halfway Ultimate gets through antivirus yes I'm being very paranoid about what sites I go to right now I have cleared out the Windows Update cache and re-checked for updates I have cleared out temporary files used CCleaner did not let it mess with my registry I have uninstalled drivers for everything except my NVIDIA graphics card I have disabled all non-microsoft services on startup and rebooted The CBS folder is gig It keeps making more and more timestamped CBSPersist log files that are - Gb each My CBS log file alone is Gb I have Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 gets stuck halfway through install an install Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 gets stuck halfway through install trying to run at the moment and the CBS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 gets stuck halfway through install log file grew Gb in the ten minutes it took me to copy the folder Surely that's not normal It's chewed up all the remaining space on C Literally reports bytes free I've copied the folder to another drive can I just delete the CbsPersist files to get some space back

A:Can't install Office 2013, stuck on 94% progress!

Try uninstalling Office again & then disable your anti virus program, before again installing it.
When Office 2013 is installed from a DVD, it does some of the installation via the internet from Microsoft, so it is also important to have you internet connection working at the same time.
Hope this gets you up & running.

Hi, I'm a reasonably experience user but this one has me stumped.

I was doing a reinstall of XP this afternoon, all seemed fine but after about 40 minutes and about 11 minutes to go to complete, the machine rebooted (which I thought was part of the process) and when I looked at the screen again, the installation was back at 37 minutes. It then goes through the same routine to the approx same point and then restarts and does the same all over again.

I can't boot the PC with the disk removed from the machine, F8 has no effect on boot up, it will boot part way then the screen says restarting setup.

DOn't quite know what to do now. Any help on this appreciated. Reasonable speck PC about 14 months old dual core, 3 gig RAM etc.

Thanks in anticipation Keith

Can anyone help? I have had problems with my computer and decided to do a repair installation of windows xp. I did not use the recovery console- i went through the the normal setup and then chose the repair option. Everything had gone ok, but it got stuck at 2 minutes remaining in the 'saving settings' stage. After much googling, i found a guide that described windows xp getting stuck at 34 mins remaining. The problem did not match mine but it did prompt me to press f10 during setup and open a command window and examine the setup log. The only error i could see was an OLE failure that related to userenv.dll - i registered this using regsrv32 and the message said it registered ok, but the setup continues to get stuck at 2 mins left. Anybody any ideas? The O/S is Windows XP pro. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Xp Repair Install Stuck 2mins Left. Please Help

Well, I would interpret that as a problem with the hard drive possibly.

I would go into the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r on the drive/partition...and then I would try the repair install anew.

FWIW: A repair install won't solve any hardware problems you have and it may not solve other existing O/S or software problems.
